Everything is explained on an extremely basic level -- defined chemistry as "all stuff and what it does." I learned more in my high school chem class. A good professor to take if you already know your stuff and just want to get the requirement filled. Bring a good book or find a Hangman partner.
Well, I took her Intro to Chemistry (CHEM1000) class. And yes, it was very basic and simple. But duh! That's why it's an intro class! What we covered in class were material I had already learned back in high school. But so what? IT WAS EASY! I'd take her again for a different class.
Her class was very easy as everyone else mentioned. If you want an easy class then take her class.

Chem in your life. Very easy and slow progressing. Notes are repeated often, HW is easy. Most of the tests are cake. The class is time consuming when doing all of the notecards. Extra Credit is always an + in college.
her lectures are all over the place, she makes irrelevant analogies that confuse you even more. you'll study everything from the book for the exams and absolutely nothing you studied are on the test. when you ask her questions she just yells at you. never asks if you have any questions, and if you do, she doesn't answer them.
I just started bringing other homework to class. Her lectures were scattered and generally unhelpful but she would do things in class so you had to show up. The class wasn't very hard, just very frustrating!
Her notes are all over the place. I wouldnt really consider her a teacher anyone can rewrite notes on an overhead.Basically, you have to be willing to figure out things on your own and have the time to do so. This class requires a lot of studying and about 20 hours a week of just reading and comprehending the material.Depending on how much you know
Horrible horrible professor. My experience with her and her class was so bad I changed my major. If you can, avoid her class if you can.
Bad Professor... i recommend not taking her class.. she is very confusing... she confuses the whole class by confusing herself!... very unorganize with her lecture notes.... gives out quizes in lab and diss. doesn't explain homework problem... i learned more by reading the book then going to class! Don't take her!
Okay so she is a really nice person, but not the best teacher. In respect to the course, it is challenging!! THIS IS A CLASS FOR SCIENCE MAJORS! If you are just interested in GE take chem 1000, or earth science. I's really time consuming, 5 units, and HARD! So basically, Be prepared to study your bootie off regardless of who you take it with!
She is a nice person but just not a teacher. She doesnt explain things well. We were extremely behind but she rushed through the rest of the sections. I would never recommend her as a teacher. She is hard and she curves at the end of the semester.
BAD teacher, but her tests were extremely easy. If you study the recommended problems, then you're good. easy test, bad teacher. She's nice if you talk to her in her office hours though.
She is boring, too easy and talks to everyone like they're dumb. I was not prepared for the second semester of chemistry, after taking this class. I only got by because of a previous knowledge of the material. BAD TEACHER!
Not very helpful. She looked down to you as if you should know the answer that's inside her head. I liked that she gave us practice quizzes that helped us practice for our real quiz, but she was not willing to help answer my questions.
Don't take this professor!
I took her for Chemistry Discussion and hated it. She gives out quizzes for each class period and only really "lectured/discussed" two times the entire semester. She allows version A one week and version B another week for quizzes which was the only cool part about the class, but she wasn't helpful at explaining the material.
Chem 2 LAB: not clear in how she wants labs. So ull end up knowing how, by the 4th week. Or 3rd. Takes toooo long to grade so u dont know wat ur doing wrong. Lab Practical is hard and expects u to be fast. Quizes evry week but easy. Hardest thing is her picky way of turning in the lab reports.(and final)
Don't take her.
She has absolutely no idea what she is doing, which makes you just as lost. She softspoken and really nice but not helpful at all. When she writes they have little to nothing to do with the tests and the book is just as bad, she almost constantly loses herself. JUST DONT TAKE HER. Save yourself the trouble.
Really no reason to attend lectures. She posts sample tests online that have the same questions she uses for exams. She also uses a curve for final grades. The class is boring but it is easy to slide by with a C with little effort.
Terrible teacher. Not really helpful at all, her directions just cause more confusion. Way too strict with notebooks, it has to be formatted perfectly and turned in within a couple minutes of her asking for them or she won't accept it. If I could give her all zeros I would. AVOID HER LAB AT ALL COSTS.
The class is sort of easy if you don't mind just googling all the practice questions and memorizing the answers instead of actually learning chemistry. She curves the final grade. Only thing is on the final she says study only the past tests- no study allllll of the practice exams b/c the questions were not only from the 3 exams
Man oh man, she is a somewhat lenient grader. She marked me off points for the title, but she is overall lenient. I like her, she is a little bit helpful and expect to learn excel in her lab class. I thank her for excel stuff, because without her I wouldn't know how to find it on my computer. "Ctrl ~" every week. Anyway not bad at all to be honest.
She is not helpful at all. Just because I look at the back of the book to see if I got my answer correct, she got all mad.
She sucks don't take her. The class is pointless to go to. All her quiz questions are all online.
No point in going to class the book is easier to learn from, but she does things like take attendance and gives points and class worksheets at the very end. And she won't let you make up worksheets. Terrible teacher, and won't cooperate with you what so ever.
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!
Everyone gives her a bad rating but she's not a terrible person. The class is super easy if you have some kind of chem background in high school. However, her teaching style is not very efficient and you may be annoyed. Taking other professors might be better, but if you have to take her, don't sweat it.
She is such a bad professor & not helpful at all! She does not know how to explain what she is doing & her notes are all over the place! Avoid her if possible!!
Super easy to pass if you have any previous chemistry knowledge. Lectures are extremely boring and she's crazy strict during tests
She is very unclear in what she expects out of students, she's an incredibly tough grader, and she doesn't really help you much when you ask for her help. Its like pulling teeth.. During lab, she leaves the room while we are performing experiments, which is a huge safety concern for us, but not a concern of hers obviously.
Brackett is the worst Professor I've had. Period. She isn't clear in her lectures, and makes an easy topic difficult by the way she teaches it. I'm a 3.8GPA student, and I didn't get an A in this class. NO ONE in my class got an A with her. Her exams aren't based on the hw or lectures, but on some random sentence in the book she expects you to read
she was super easy for chem 1000, strict on exams but , exam question are all on blackboard discussions go through those and remember those and study them and it is an easy A.
Worst professor I have ever had. Gave us extra credit just for being at the lecture before spring break, as long as you signed the roll sheet. I went up to speak with her after class, completely forgetting to sign the roll sheet. I asked her, "If I show proof of me being there, can I still receive the points." Her response, "No, it's a done deal."
I would not suggest taking this class if you are not a chem major. She grades on a curve but it is set high because of the chem majors. You can earn points by doing the in class group assignments so attendance is mandatory. There are practice tests but they are extremely long. You need the book to teach yourself.
I hated this class. She was very boring when lecturing and wasn't very confident. One time she was lecturing and was like "I think this is on your next test I don't know I forgot just learn it". Her tests were alright you just have to study from her online study guides. The only time i used the book was when I would go see my tutor.
She is a very boring prof. i had her for Chem Discussion and she did help at all. Plus she was kind of rude to the class.
Never opened my book once, and still passed the class. Just study the practice exams she provides. However, I wouldn't recommend taking her as a professor. She's not helpful at all and if you're not a CHEM major, she could care less about you. She grades on a curve which was probably the only positive thing about the class.
I thought I was doing really good in this class, Aced every exam, but ended up passing with a B+. I would not recommend this class to anyone who already doesn't have a firm understanding of chemistry.
Overall, Professor Brackett's lab is doable. If you turn in a lab a few minutes after she asks for them, it's late. The labs she gives have directions that are sometimes confusing, but the labs themselves are not impossible. Just never miss a lab, turn in all your reports, and keep your notebook up to date. The lab practical is also open note too.
Do NOT Take for lab!!!! you will be so stressed out after each week. Im a bio major only B this semester was in her lab. Im telling you take Jones for lab if you can, otherwise you will have to treat this class harder than the lecture. My roommate has Jones he has an A and doesnt have as much of a workload as I.
If you take her for discussion just know that the class is just quizzes you can get 120% but you need to bring your book and calculator. If you want the discussion for working on chemistry and not just tests, take any other teacher
The prelabs are incredibly specific and she will NEVER go over what you need to do during the lab before hand. Honestly just go with a different lab teacher she is very nit picky but she doesnt explain what she wants you to know or do in order to be prepared for the next class. She doesnt help during lab she sits at a computer and leaves class.
If you have a question, don't expect an answer. If you understand it, expect her to make you teach the class. If no one gets it, she'll just tell you all to leave and then you still don't get it but there's homework due...
Wow. Honestly was very unimpressed with her teaching style. Made lots of errors in lectures and when corrected she didn't really re-explain the correct information. The tests were very difficult, the information never seemed to be clear. The only class in my life I was scared I would fail. If given the option I would have chosen a diff. instantly.
Dr. Brackett is a good professor in general. She is helpful is she knows that you are actually putting effort into your work. Can be a little mean, but she may do it for the best. She has a great grading criteria, it is clear and outlines every single detail.
We never got to half of the chapters we were to do. She gives students different grades for a group project two in my group got a ten while the other three got a six. She is very slow with her lecture and reviews material so much so that we fall extremely behind. Does not like it when challenged with questions about the subj we are discussing.
Dr. Brackett is a great professor. Everyone seems to think she's tough, which she is! but you learn a lot. She'll make you work for your grade, but I learned so much in her lab and if you work hard you can get an A. I had her for chem lab and discussion and received a B+ in her lab and an A in discussion. She is very helpful and there for you.
Brackett never helps her students in discussion. She'll make us go back to retry the same problem and still won't help us. These discussion homework she hands out are done in class and is utilized as a quiz. I thought discussion was a place to ask for clarification, but apparently, I didn't receive any help whatsoever.
Honestly Dr. Brackett is a really sweet person, her discussion course is all quizzes so as long as you make sure to know the material well enough before hand you can pull 100%. Her lab is extremely difficult but NOT impossible. Read the prelab THOROUGHLY ahead of time, keep your notebook up to date, and go in for help before turning labs in!
I would not recommend this professor. She has a very dull and monotone way of presenting the material and never ends class early. The questions on the quizzes are designed for you to get them wrong. Ace every test and you can still end up with a C in the class. Look for someone else!
She's a little intimidating to ask questions to, which is hard to have when you don't understand something covered in class.
Personal feelings: I hate her more than any professor I've had. Very rude. Won't help you w/questions. Unbiased commentary: If you don't complete every lab assignment exactly how she tells you to, you WILL get kicked out of lab & have to make up labs on your own. Very difficult grader and very picky on every detail.
This Professor is WAY too nit picky! Evreything in lab is done in a notebook that has to be HER way or you get kicked out, and takes points off very things that shouldn't.l I would NOT recommend...
I'll keep it plain and simple, stay away from Chem 1000 with Brackett.
The grading scale used does not make sense. A quiz is graded on a higher scale than an exam since everything done within the class is a total weight of 85% with the final being weighed 15%.. There is no distinction between group work, the quizzes, or exams. she chooses to lecture on a blank sheet of paper as opposed to power points.
Dr. B is a homie. Im not sure why people have rated her so low. She gives you clear directions as to what she wants from you, follow them and you will do just fine. She's hilarious and sweet, just treat her the way you would like to be treated and she's a gem. Love Brackett, don't be afraid to take her class! Work hard and put in the effort.
I didn't spend my money on the textbook nor pay attention to the lectures. Study the review sheets that are posted on blackboard before every midterm and final and you're good. I passed with a B. Strong curve at the end helps too. No homework also
I had her for 1100 lab Got an A, and shes the only teacher who believed that I could pass Stessman with a B. She was right. This woman tutored me every office hour and babied me through her labs and prepped me for exams. If it was not for her, I would have failed. She cares. Is grumpy, but if you make an effort to be nice she will help a lot
It is important to go to class because she gives out random group quizzes or individual assignments that you cannot make up. I found her lectures hard to understand and the notes that I took in class unhelpful. Luckily most of the test material came from the practice midterms she gave to us which answers can easily be found in the textbook.
The notes taken in class are not helpful for the exams she does post the practice questions and if you do those and memorize all of the answers you will do good on her exams. You have to show up because she hands out random group work that cannot be made up. You have to put in the time and effort to essentially teach yourself because she can't.
She's a nice but very passive person. Intimidating to ask questions. Sometimes her notes are disorganized could be better. Sometimes lectures with videos which teach for her. You have 4 tests and a final. Gives 4th midterm 2 days before she gives the Final. Gives Pop group quizzes. Practice tests actual tests. You need TXTBK 2 practice problems!
This professor is absolutely useless! No help, no explanation. She will not teach you anything, yet expects perfection with no direction. She should feel guilty for being detrimental to a students academic path. Avoid at all cost!!!
She's one of those professors that writes out the notes on paper during class. She gives us "practice tests" with exact same questions on exams but she doesn't give you the correct answers. She gives out extra credit at the very end of the semester. Her syllabus states there'll be pop quizzes (there were none.) Don't try kissing up bc it won't work
Very strict with notebooks, she made me reprint a whole report because the ink was too light yet she could read it fine. She isnt very nice and definitely not approachable at all. I would suggest not to take her class if you are trying to pass!
I had her for discussion and lab. Although I am not a huge fan of how she teaches lab, but discussion was easy to earn your points. She let you work in groups and use your phone as a source to find the answers for the worksheet. You could also check your answers with her before turning it in to get the full points.
I liked Dr. Brackett, I had her for discussion and for chem 1 lab. She will help you if you ask her and explains everything. I utilized her office hours for any questions for lab reports. She does make you photo copy your work and turn it in for a lab report. Overall I give her a good rating. Wish she taught chem2 lab.
This woman is completely unsympathetic, and unwilling to help. She lectures by hand writing notes on a projector and does so in the most boring way possible. Most classes are only lecture. She does not provide adequate study guides and jumps around the book making it very hard to study.
Worst professor in the Chemistry department! She's rude and she isn't willing to help her students. She gets annoyed real easily when she gets questions asked, and she shows students attitude. She puts everyone's grades online for everybody to see and she is super disrespectful. Absolutely horrible!
Id highly suggest anyone taking any of her classes. She writes all her notes as she verbally says them and if she goes off track and thinks about something else, it will be written down. Youd probably learn more from the textbook than actually coming to class but if you do miss maybe 1 class, you might miss a very very large in class assignment.
Brackett is a rude professor and her lecture notes don't reflect of what's going to be on the test. Students are better off reading from the textbook and doing the textbook problems rather than reading off her lecture notes because they make a lot more sense. She is not willing to help her students out and does not care about her students.
She writes down all her notes but they do not reflect what's going to be on the test. I had to get a tutor to help me better understand the material because her notes made absolutely no sense. Plus, she is rude and she has an attitude towards her students. It is almost like she takes pride in making students feel dumb. She is the worst!
A little rude and unapproachable, learned more from my classmates than from Professor Brackett. Each class discussion there is a worksheet due, sometimes there is too much to be completed during the short 50min session. Must attend each discussion to get points.
Worst professor Ive ever encountered. Shes not there to help students AT ALL! Super rude, I went to office hours for clarification on an assignment that wasnt explained enough in class & wasnt labeled on her syllabus & when I asked her for clarification she told me to look at blackboard. Obviously I have & its not clear thats why Im asking
She is ruthless. I got a D, and I was on the higher end. If youre taking her, you CANNOT bail out.
Deserves a better rating than she is given. She can be strict, but I had her for lab and as long as you follow the instructions she gives you, then youll be fine. Make sure you do the prelab before class or she wont let you do the lab and youll have to make it up another day. Follow the grading criteria for the labs and you will get a good grade
I loved Dr. Brackett's class! As long as you do your pre-lab before class and do the lab reports according to the grading rubrics, you'll do fine. She can be a tough grader, but makes her grading criteria clear. Making friends with the people around you definitely makes the class more enjoyable!
I give 0 rating to this professor. DO NOT TAKE HER. Doesn't care about the students if they fail, she wants you to fail. She is disrespectful, and gets mad sometimes when go to her office hours. I rather take a different professor. Take stessman instead never take her. I know people that changed their major because of her.
I have Dr. Brackett for CHEM1100 Lab and Discussion. Take her for discussion, if you put the effort you'll get an A easily, as she gave worksheets and you can check answers with her. For lab, it's a different scenario. Notebooks(important!), lab chores, lockers, and WEEKLY lab reports are the game. Very strict, if you miss ONE lab report F.
She is okay but she grades really hard so if you miss something she won't give you a grade for it. There is no extra credit. Some assignments are hard. And there is no attendance so it's okay if you miss the class. Overall she is okay but not the best professor.
I am so happy I am done with this class! (I took Brackett during covid times;online) and we have so many labs mabye a total of 9 or so and they are hard, but do able. Make sure to take this lab with friends, because you will not pass if you do it alone. She does not help or answer emails. She is a a picky grader for labs. I do not recommend her!
I had Brackett for discussion, she was okay. We have weekly assignments, they are not too hard. I recommend taking this class with your friends, because it is easier. The way she grades the assignments is picky, she will knock you off points for the smallest mistake. It is ridiculous. I do not recommend her at all.
Professor brackett was horrible. She does not like to help her students nor does she like to respond to email when her students are in need of help. I personally would never take her again. Her lab was extremely hard, and does explain things. Her grading is very heavy and it effects you bad.
I had her for discussion, she is really picky with the answers if you miss something, she mark that down. You don't have to go to her class online because she mostly records them so you can just watch that later. This class is graded based on worksheets, quizzes, and one group assignment. Overall she is not bad but she is not the best professor.
Overall she is okay but not the best. She goes over two problems during class but most are easy but some are hard. She grades them really hard so make sure to have the same answer as her key. She responds to emails in a timely manner. Also available outside of class if you need help.
Very difficult course; I should have studied more, but it worked out fine. All tests, quizzes, and hw were on pearson. In total, we had 7 quizzes (I kid you not), 4 exams, and one cumulative final. If this course was offered online, I would recommend taking it, but otherwise, avoid this professor and take another one. I did not read the text btw ;)
If I could give her a 0 I would. It seems she doesn’t care about students succeeding. She answers ?’s vaguely and is bothered if you ask follow up ?’s. VERY tough grader. We had pop quizzes. She’s a unpleasant person to say the least, multiple students left class crying. If you can get any other professor, save yourself the stress
Brackett does her lectures by projecting herself writing the notes on the screen while saying the information out loud. It was not very interactive and it was quite slow-going, but you get the information verbatim and it didn't take much brain power. You could probably get all of the information from the book instead if you wanted.
Would not recommend this professor very difficult to work with!
She is not a good teacher. Her class is so boring and her lectures are pointless. She uses Pearson which is more useful than her lectures. When we would do presentations, she would fall asleep in class. I would recommend not taking her class.
This class consisted of lecture in class. One group presentation. Homework and quizzes are on Pearson. Exams are done in class, and worth a lot on your grade. If your not the best test taker, get as much points as possible on your homework and quizzes. Study the homework for her exams, her lectures did not help much to study for her exams.
The discussion connected to the CHEM 1100 Lecture is pretty easy with Dr. Brackett. She lets you use your phone, ask her questions to complete her weekly worksheets. There's 3 quizzes that are heavy for your overall grade. Worksheets were fairly easy with the resources available. My advice is to just study for the quizzes.
She quit letting us use our notes and phones for worksheets. Then proceeds to hand us quizzes. Both the worksheets and the quizzes get below average grades. There is also no teaching from her end. Dismisses questions. Discussion should be a way to receive an easy A, chem is hard. Starting to really believe the entire chem department needs rehiring.
Please take any other class except hers. She doesn't give clear instructions for labs and takes points off. She isn't understanding of circumstances and will call you out in front of everyone if you make a mistake. Her requirements for lab notebook and turning in lab reports are ridiculous. I have to print about 15 pages weekly for her class.
This professor relies on lectures to help you on the exams when they really don't. Homework assignments are on Pearson so if you do bad on the exams try get more points on the HW assignments. Speeds through the lectures with minimal explanation. Had to teach myself at times.
