Dr. Nachef is really great. She genuinely cares about you and is readily available if you have questions about course material. Her tests and exams are extremely fair, but it's definitely not easy.
It was her first time teaching, and she did a very good job. Lectures were a bit quick, but she made up for it by being very useful in office hours. Exams were fair, though not easy, and she even gave the option for extra credit. Recommended.
Really nice prof, very approachable during office hours. Tests and quizzes were not too difficult if you studied. Class was somewhat rushed near the end due to lack of time. Extra credit was given. Class was somewhat rushed due to lack of time.
Terrible at teaching. Hard to follow along and her voice is annoying. Would not recommend, especially for Orgo 2.
great prof
I'm pretty sure she's been deleting comments, but she CAN NOT TEACH!!!!! I'm sure she knows her stuff, but she has no clear order in her thoughts. I leave class more confused than when I walked in. Also, her exams are really hard compared to other sections. Really hard to ask your questions during her few office hours. Overall a mess.
You win some you lose some. Her class is not a walk in the park but she's fair and she genuinely cares about making sure we understand the topics. Don't expect to pass without styding.
great professor
A good prof, explains things well but her voice is a bit monotonous so it gets hard to concentrate sometimes. Takes attendance via TopHat so you can't skip class, and no homework so the grade is based on 2 midterms, attendance and a final. Pretty tough course material so only take it if it's mandatory for your program.
Pretty hard course. Her lectures are essentially her presenting screenshots from the textbook and expectations aren't clear for the midterms, that are worth alot; she also has minimal weighting and no ways to get non-exam credit such as Sapling (besides 5% attendance)
It seems like she's teaching in class, but ngl, for some reason I cannot understand what she is trying to say (and it's not cause of her accent either). For some reason the way she explains things just doesn't make sense (at least for me). s/o to Khan academy for coming clutch tho
This prof has potential but she tends to rush through very important topics and does not clearly explain the material which makes it hard to know what to expect on midterms. She is not easy to contact outside of class and does not respond to emails. I would try to take this class with a different prof instead.
The final exam is in less than 12 hours... I still don't understand anything despite attending class everyday and taking decent notes. She is boring to listen to, her power points are vague, she's not that great at explaining concepts. Her expectations for the class aren't very clear so its hard to study for her tests too. Please aVOID!
She's very knowledgeable. There's no doubt about it. But SHE CAN NOT TEACH!! Has she ever heard of the concept of explicit teaching? She starts throwing in complicated concepts without explaining them because they are easy for her, but obviously we have no idea what she's talking about. Copy pasting from the textbook is not teaching.
Worst prof ever. that's all I'm going to say. Asked her a question for confirmation on the exam and all she said was "Just read the question, It should be clear enough". I asked a questions because what she was asking for was unclear. Very disappointed. This is also how she is after class. What is clear to her isn't clear to students. Bad Prof.
The midterms were fairly difficult and had some tricky questions, but they were fair and she was very kind in office hours. She easily gave marks back where TAs were being bonobos. Her teaching wasn't the greatest, but let's be honest, that's the same for all the profs here. Final was easy with an easy 6% bonus. 1% bonus to final mark too!
Seems like a nice person but let me tell you I had absolutely no idea what was going on ever during class, get ready to teach yourself the entire course. Probably one of the hardest courses Ive taken yet
Don't listen to the people on here. Claudia expects you to do work yourself, if you don't, you won't do well, but if you do (eg: doing the problem sets early, going to office hours for help), you'll do very well. Her midterms and final are super fair. She's a good prof, people just like to scapegoat, you can't slack in Orgo and just blame the prof.
Know that Orgo II itself is a difficult course. She expects you to have a solid chem foundation for each lecture. And they are intense. She uses vocab like pKa and electrophile casually all the time, so stay focused on her lectures. But she gives part marks generously. Know her past midterms and slides. I wish she did more to reinforce our learning
Worked my butt off for this course and passed with a 51.19%. This was the hardest course Ive ever taken and Dr. Nachef didnt do much to help. Lectures were not useful and I had to teach myself most of the material. While the midterms were fair the final was extremely difficult. DGDs were very helpful for this course however!
Throughout the semester Ive put so much time and effort into the course. Self teaching my self everything cause she couldnt teach. She literally tells you that you dont have to know certain things and they appear on the midterm and exams. As a 10 point GPA student I couldnt even handle her class. Just dont take her. Just bad.
As said before, orgo II is generally a hard course. There are a lot of concepts to learn/memorize/understand, and for people that rely on the prof to teach them everything they won't do well with Nachef. But if you put in the time to self-study, her midterms and especially exams were all fairly doable.
Class attendance won't help you here. Claudia is the worst, don't take this course with her. Its scattered and unfair.
Imo she's not THAT bad. She's not great at lecturing but is very nice and tries her best to explain concepts in office hours. Her midterms are FAIR and final's fairly easy if you practiced problem sets. Orgo is a tough course in general so you have to wonder if everything is really the prof's fault or not. Overall glad I took her instead of Flynn
Looking back, the midterms were difficult but FAIR. You have to work VERY HARD in this class if you want to do well. All necessary info provided in lecture. Marking was fair w/ bonus question and boost on overall grade. In Orgo 2 things are not clear cut like Orgo 1, BUT THAT'S JUST THE WAY CHEMICALS REACT so must THINK LIKE A MOLECULE (PRACTICE)!
It's a shame how out of 300+ students in the class few disgruntled students can ruine a professor's reputation on a public site such as this. I took this class. It was difficult at times but not impossible as some make it sound. Claudia is a good young professor and I'll be more than happy to have her as my prof again.
Lectures were heavy, could not access to the online lectures because they were all blank on screen. Lecture slices covered only little things. Course was hard but the professor was not doing her best to simplify the problems. Hard midterms and finals.
This class was a roller coaster ride and a genuinely mind boggling experience. I came into it expecting to die and got slapped in the face with a raw chicken breast coming out of every midterm. Then we would get our marks back and the lord himself would smile upon me somehow and pull me through. My advice is study hard and hope for the best.
Slides are limited, and information was a combination of multiple textbook together. I couldn't find the pictures she used from the textbook. No very specific with what's on the midterm and exam. She saids everything was "feasible" but really it wasn't. If only she could have taught better.
El Nachef WANTS students to do well, but her execution in doing so is very poor. I used the textbook A LOT in this class (use slides as a study guide, but I recommend using the textbook for actual learning) and it was extremely helpful as the concepts she teaches are usually not clear. Go to class for attendance marks and beware of the final.
Really good for her first time teaching this class, would recommend
Very approachable and cares about making us understand the topics. She specializes in organic chemistry and still managed to deliver good lectures. Very honest and admits to sometimes not knowing the answer to questions outside of her comfort zone and would follow up with answers. Wish my other profs care as much as she does!
Best organic chemistry prof - she doesn't do that stupid flipped class
Claudia is a great professor and she is also super nice. Her slides are really good and she does a good job explaining the different concept. Her midterms were easy, however the final is pretty hard but definitely manageable. Just make sure to do all the practice problems and you'll do fine.
She is very kind and caring but rushes through materially and barely touches on important topics. Has extremely challenging exams, which are difficult to prepare for even if you complete all practice questions given. You will think that you understand a topic and then the exam will completely screw you over. Talks very quickly.
One of the best professors in the university. Everyone keeps complaining her exams are hard but they are not. They are very fair and reasonable. Organic is all about practice and if you dont thats when you get a bad grade. Her questions are very similar to the practice problem sets. Same concept just different molecules. Def take her again.
She's not clear during lecture, so unless you read the lecture in the 3 hours before class that she posted the material, get ready for confusion and a whole lot of participation lol. Other than that, she's a down-to-earth prof who cares about her students. Her assignments are like Ogilvie's - (protip) do them AGAIN AND AGAIN!
Great prof. Clear and thorough explanation and very helpful outside of class.
I have taken Orgo 2 twice with her. First time, it was her first time teaching (because of that she did not know the threshold). Second time, she actually had improved and was more flexible in term of the material in explaining the material. Just do her practice problems on focus on doing all of them. Her exams were similar/ the same.
She does not spend enough time explaining the most important things are on the exams (making the lectures next to useless). The problem sets she provides does not properly prepare you for the exams. Although she wants students to do well, her exams are very difficult compared to what is shown in class and the questions in her problem sets. Avoid!
SUPER! J'ai adoré. Très bonne comme prof
She's an awesome prof, but the course itself is hard. If you listen during the lectures and keep up with studying consistently, you should be ok
Claudia is hands down the most amazing orgo prof! She's such a caring and sweet lady who only wants the best for her students. Her lectures were phenomenal, I myself didn't excel in organic chemistry 2 but it was still my most favourite class because of Claudia. She's very clear, explains the material well and really just makes you enjoy orgo!
She explains the concepts really well in her lectures and even takes questions in the middle of them. She obviously cares about students doing well in her class and is helpful during office hours, but her midterms were near impossible to prepare for.
Claudia is great at teaching in class. I had her for organic chem 2 and my only complaint is that she went over carbonyls very quick since she ran out of time. However, the midterms were fair and similar to previous midterms. As for the final, do the problem set and make sure you understand it and you'll do fine .
prof Claudia is the best organic prof I have ever had in my life. She is an amazing prof, caring, and she can inspire you if you like organic chemistry. The course is very heavy and its hard to keep catching up, so better to practice every day and do not wait until the last day!otherwise it is almost impossible to get a good grade.
Amazing prof! Very caring and wants you to succeed :) Tries her best to make sure you understand the concepts. Both midterms and the final are fair, make sure to do the problem sets!!! I loved this class!
I really liked her. We were going pretty slowly through the slides because she was taking her time to explain things, which I really liked but I was scared that towards the end she would have to go really fast but now we won't know because of Covid-19... But she answers all the questions and makes sure everyone understands
Honestly, Organic chemistry 2 with Dr. El Nachef was amazing. Her lectures are really informative and you learn a lot by going to her classes. Prior to this class, I never went to DGDs, but her's proved to be very useful. Learned much more in her review class of Orgo 1, than I did in all of Orgo 1.
She's a great prof. Would take it again anytime. Super caring, she wants everyone to pass. Also, she's accessible outside of class. Because it's orgo chem, it's a hard class but she makes it easier to understand.
Since the moment I stepped foot into this class I knew I was gonna fail. Did I? No but still she sucks. Dont even bother going to class because her explanations sucks and she's expects you to already know everything. Her tests are straight forward but you had to teach yourself everything. Her slides only TEACHES theory but her tests are application
Super!
This professor isnt clear with her explanations, she speaks way too quickly, has an accent that I found hard to understand and often slips in bits of French when lecturing (I was in the English section) which ads to the confusion. She also goes back and says yes/no, corrects her errors, and is late with uploading notes and replying to emails.
I took this class during an online semester. I passed the prerequisite (orgo 1) with misunderstandings but Claudia helped getting rid of all of them. Her exams are hard but still very fair. There are no surprises. She is an AMAZING professor and explains so well I would love to have her again even though her exams are a bit hard u gotta study!
Online class*. I had taken Orgo 1 more than a year ago and did not remember much from it. When she takes the time to explain a concept, I fully understood it. She does go fast but if you ask her to go back she will. Her exams grading criteria were not clear because it was online. This class requires ALOT of work if you want to pass. Work hard.
Organic chemistry is a hard subject, but Professor El Nachef makes it bearable. She does lecture rather quickly, but she explains concepts clearly and gives us the resources to do well (practice sets, past midterms, etc). Shes a pretty fair marker, so the effort you put into class is directly reflected in your grade. All in all, a solid choice.
El Machef is a very fair prof. If you do your work diligently, attend group discussions and do the problem sets she uploads, you will be fine. Her course very well organized and you know what to expect. If you just understand her slides and practice mechanisms at your own time, that A is yours my friend.
I didn't find her to be an amazing prof. She spends a lot of time explaining topics verbally without much written notes and it gets kind of confusing at times. Problems she goes over in class are VERY basic compared to the tests so best to practice A LOT. Her tests are similar in difficulty to the practice sets she posts.
Organic chemistry is a hard class, that's a given. I found her a great lecturer but sometimes she goes over the concept and practice problems in class really fast. The assignments were easy and the problem sets were a great practice for the midterms and final. Be on top of your game: study regularly and don't put everything at the last minute!
Prof. Nachef is considered as a good chem's prof like she organizes the lectures perfectly and inspirationally teaches. However, her tests and finals are kinda condense and heavy. If you well-prepare the contents, you'd ensure to pass the class with an A. GOOD LUCK Y'ALL
Worst prof ever talks way too much, can't teach if her life depended on it and her exams are way harder than anything seen in class. If you have the chance, do yourself the favor and avoid this class at all costs.
Pros: very kind, organized, graders are VERY lenient/give extra points just because (probably from pity) Cons: tests are much harder than practice test, sooo much work especially for labs (not her fault really) I spent more time on this class than my 4 others combined, tests are long and content heavy, expectations arent very clear
Worst prof I have ever had. Makes 0 sense, and leaves you more confused than before. Youtube is legit your best friend in this course. Good luck
If I could sum it up in word; Horrible.
Nachef isn't good at teaching, she over complicates the concepts and doesn't do enough exemples in class (too much theory; not on exam). exams are horrible and hard. none of the examples done in class were similar to the exam. labs for this class are long and require a lot of work. it's definitely the class i put most effort in and barely passed
Prof El Nachef is a good prof, organic chemistry is hard. Overall, she explains things well, but tends to rush at the end because we're missing some time. We appreciate the 10% TopHat component that can save lol. Study hard and you'll pass. Also, go to class if you want to pass.
None of the examples seen in class were reflected on the exams. Her exams are so much harder than the practice exams handed out. It legit looks like she wants her students to fail. Talks way too much in the lecture, leaving students more confused and rushes through very important concepts. NO PRACTICE FINAL EXAM EITHER!! Run while u still can.
AVOID THIS TEACHER
The worst chem prof I have ever had in my entire life, legit sucked my passion for the subject out of me. Her explanations make no sense and you are left figuring out everything on your own. Orgo is hard on its own but El-Nachef makes it incomprehensible. Avoid at all cost!!!
Talks too much. Unclear. Makes orgo 100 times harder than it supposed to be. If you want a class that will single handily ruin your GPA orgo with El-Nachef is your way to go
Horrible horrible horrible class. Exams are written up as if she wants to trick you and she wants you to fail, funny when she can't even teach BASIC concepts properly.
by far the worst prof i've ever had. she's terrible at explaining key concepts, her tests are unnecessarily hard and lectures are boring. avoid at all costs
Looking at a lot of these reviews, I was honestly super surprised as I thought El-Nachef was going to be an excellent teacher, unfortunately, my expectations were not met in the slightest. I tried following her explanations all semester and was left more confused than before I entered the class. She gave harder exams than other chem profs. AWFUL.
It was so hard to follow along with anything she was saying and don't get me started with her tests. Honestly, profs like her are the reason rate my prof should have negative rating options.
She's a nice lady ill give her that but that's where the positivity stops. She's an awful prof, her explanation makes 0 sense, her powerpoints are illegible and she goes on and on about concepts that are not seen on the exams. Overall a class that's will guarantee to lower your grade and will increase your breakdowns per week. Goodluck.
Kind and gentle, but examples in the lecture do not represent the level of difficulty seen in the midterms. Rushed towards the end due to lack of time. DGD's are helpful, but that's about it.
She's very kind and devoted. Organic chemistry is just a hard class in general. It was rushed towards the end which made it hard to grasp concepts. The exams were also very difficult. To do well you really have to do lots of practice exercices and attend office hours.
Professor El Nachef is overall is good prof. Organic chemistry is a hard class. Study, do all the exercises she posts and you should be fine. The final was harder (cumulative).
El Nachef is a solid choice for an orgo prof. People hate on the prof for the subject itself but if you study, do all the practice problems and do her past exams, there should be no reason you don't do well in her class.
Decent prof all things considered. She does have a slight accent but nothing off putting. I did well but that being said this is ORGO 2. Study all the content. Do all the practice problems and attend all DGDs. Do all that and you should do well.
Good at explaining, hard midterms.
One of my favorite chemistry professors so far. She really does make orgo 2 much more digestible and its clear she works hard to ensure all her student get the best grade possible. Her tests are very fair, as long as you go to lectures and complete the practice sets. Going to DGD's are also very helpful.
Dr. El Nachef fournit des diapos très organisés, et des exercices de pratique. Tout est là pour bien réussir, il faut juste mettre l'effort et étudier fort, parce que c'est pas un cours facile. The bad rating you see is because the course is hard, not because she's a bad prof.
Dr. El Nachef is a decent teacher. She cares about the success of her students, so much so as she regraded an entire midterm to try and boost grades. She does go a little slow in the lecture, but this can also be helpful. Tests are essentially the same as the practice ones given. Very helpful when asked questions.
She is happy to explain concepts during office hours. Her marking scheme is generous and tries to give you the highest grade possible. During lectures she tends to over-explain simple topics and rush through more complex ones. The online lab for this course sucks but that's not her fault
She is just so Amazing. She cares so much and her passion for orgo makes the class very enjoyable. So much respect for her!
Moved through slides very quickly, gave very challenging midterms (average 55%, median 52%), blamed the students for not practicing enough.
HOLAY. She has amazing lectures, very passionate, and you can understand them, so you end up feeling confident. her practice questions though, come out from no where, but thankfully she shows you how to answer them. MIDTERMS/EXAMS; brutaallll. you think you know what you're doing, but it's all a trick :( abort mission yall.
Midterm is difficult. She speaks very fast in class and is reluctant to turn on the subtitles. Class is one thing, homework is another thing, exam and class, homework is rarely related
Nice, but goes through way too much content too fast
Orgo 2 with Claudia was a good experience. However, the course was rushed towards the end. Be prepared to study hard.
the sweetest prof ever... she curved all the marks (for the two midterms and the final ALTHOUGH everything was covered in class). She explains the concepts very clearly (at the end of the course, I could figure out the mechanisms without even memorizing them). She wants us to understand all the details and answers every question. I love her!
Dr. El Nachef delivered the course in a very comprehensible manner and was helpful. There are a lot of mechanisms to learn so start early! Practicing using her problem sets and textbook was helpful for me.
She rushes through lectures, says she won't go into the theory then spends 45 mins on it. Expects you to understand the most abstract concepts when its not even in the curriculum. Our TA's said we were learning orgo 3 content. Her midterms are not CRAZY hard but they will make you feel very stupid. Every exepction/trick will be on it. Not good.
She is very passionate but explains too much sometimes. Right before midterms/exam its rushed and additional videos are posted to watch on your own time. Exams are hard, any exception will be on there. The midterm average was about a 50% after the curve. She really cares and will answer questions, just know you are in for a lot of work.
Dr. El-Nachef is a fantastic professor who teaches a challenging course. Her lectures are engaging and interactive, and her evaluations are tough but fair. She exhibits a clear passion for teaching and is frequently available outside class hours to help. A great choice for organic chemistry!
2 midterms, 1 final. Know past midterms. Final has some midterm questions. Be quick on final. It seems that there is a lot you have to do for this course but don't worry about that just make sure you know your mechanisms (Aldo reactions and the named mechanisms) and you will be fine. Know that one question from Module 3. Module 1 is integrated.
I found myself doing poorly on the exams because I needed to practice more. I did a lot better on my final than my midterms because of the amount of times I practiced the material (hence my average grade). Claudia is a great professor. You definitely need to know your material to be successful in the class.
Unbelievably difficult compared to the other sections which is one of the easiest courses you can take. Avoid her and go to Flynn instead if you wanna save your GPA. Avg difference between the two classes is absurd.
The course content was very condensed at the end of the semester, making it very difficult to have time to process the new material for the final exam. The prof goes over the material very quickly. Do as many practice problems as possible and make/revise Q-cards throughout the semester.
Great lecturer. Class content is very relevant to the midterms and exams. The midterms and exams are very very fair. She tends to be behind in content, so near midterms and exams the content is rushed.
People don't like her because her class is difficult. Truth is, she is an amazing teacher. Her teaching skills are better than any other prof I've had. Her tests are incredibly hard and a lot of people don't pass, but if you're a smart student who actually deserves to be in uni, you'll do well. 100% recommend, but expect to work hard for your grade
Good professor, I suggest you practice a lot for the exams however since they tend to be on the harder side.
Highly recommend Dr. Nachef. Organic chem is a tough course but I felt as though she made expectations very clear and there were no surprises come midterm/final exams. She also explains content and answers questions very well. If you complete the weekly exercices, go to the discussion groups and attend office hours, you will do great!
The class is very difficult, however she really tries her best to make it understandable. She will answer all of your questions if you have any. Her grading is very generous, she will transfer some weight from all of your mid terms and final to give you the highest possible grade. The exams won't be easy, but it's on you to study hard for them.
CHM2120 is a hard course. The content itself is difficult, and organic chem especially is notoriously difficult. However, none of this is Dr. El Nachef's fault. She is a great professor who truly and actually cares for her students. She explains things well and listened to her students' feedback. Study hard, do your best, and she'll root for you.
AMAZING LECTURER. I genuinely enjoyed the class although it was tough. Do the problem sets. Focus on past midterms for the midterms theyre almost the same. Focus on problem sets for the final. She's an amazing teacher teaching a tough course. The averages were always VERY low, if you only care about a good grade go with Flynn she was easier.
Best professor that I ever had. She is passionate about teaching and she really wants her students to learn. I spent the most time on this class, but it was worth it because of how much I learned. I finished the class with a 98 because of her flexible marking scheme.
She is way harder than Dr. Fox. Very Nice, but her midterms are heavy.
Prof El Nachef is so caring and passionate about chemistry. She is also very accessible outside of class. Organic chemistry is a super hard course, so attend her office hours immediately if you don't understand something and always go to the DGD's, they help a lot. Exams reflect the material well and are doable as long as you've practiced a lot.
Her pedagogy is awful, bad.
Nice person but alright prof. Tends to rush her lectures. Course is content heavy & fast-paced so stay on track. MTs were reflective of class content but tough. My advice would be to do as much practice as u can! Esp practice MTs and finals (find previous years'). Has flexible weighting scheme.
Solid prof. She explain very well but was going too slow at the beginning and rushed teaching all the mecanisms in the last 2 weeks of semester. 1st midterm was easy, 2nd was okay, final was VERY HARD. Shoutout to Frederic, the TA, absolute legend. His dgd's, answer on the forum and exam revision session is what got me through this class.
Organic Chemistry is just a really hard class, there's no escaping that. However, this prof does a pretty good job making the material clear and understandable. Pro-tip: Make sure to attend DGD's to go through examples and ask your TA questions but also do some examples on your own to make sure you understand how the process works.
This is a very heavy course, but she is very nice and very good at explaining all the concepts. Sometimes she will rush some stuff but overall she is solid. Although her midterms are extremely brutal.
The best professor that I have ever had, respectful and nice. She is a genius, I would highly suggest to check her past exams that she posts before midterms. If you can solve the problem set question you will be fine. make sure to attend the DGD. I would highly suggest to take the corse with her if you will study on time.
Attend every lecture!! She goes by pretty fast on most topics, but she always answers questions and you can see that she is very knowledgeable. I didn't do well in Orgo I but she managed to turn this around. Midterms were very fair and very similar to the previous midterms she posted. Final was harder, but she ended up curving to make up for it.
BEST TEACHER EVER! She is very knowledgeable and is willing to help. I found that every lecture was very helpful and the practice problem will help you a lot. Her DGD was insightful and her midterms highly reflected her posted review. Exam was harder due to no practice exams however it is very doable.
Definitely recommend, nothing bad to say about her
Professor El Nachef is excellent. She ensures you understand the process of each mechanism and explains concepts clearly. She rushed the last couple lectures before finals which sucked because the content was pretty heavy. Midterms were easier than the practice ones she gave and there were no surprises on the midterms. She's also super nice.
THE GOATT! sweetest prof, explains concepts amazingly. Orgo is just hard class, so study hard and you'll be fine
She is a very good professor and teaches very very well. She obviously cares about her students and their understanding. She spent very little time on the hardest part of the whole course and made the final exam significantly harder than her midterms (esp with no practice final given..). Her midterms were very fair and similar to the previous years
She failed to cover content at the end of the course and rushed through a lot of it. The last part of the course is a lot harder than anything else, it is very mechanism heavy. In her lectures, she covers the most basic concepts, then on practice sets, assignments, and exams it is much harder. id rather be watching the bee movie than doing this
Lectures are great, everything is explained clearly. Midterms were very simple - the content after midterm 2 is a lot heavier and covered quicker so the final was harder but still very fair. If you do the practice problem sets you won't be surprised by anything on any of her exams. Very accessible outside class and cares about student success.
The way the lectures were made allowed you to learn the general mechanisms instead of memorizing specific examples. I felt it helped a lot to have it this way so you worked harder to understand but when it came to the midterms the questions always felt easier than the problem sets. She gives out homework that can also help improve your grade(tophat
I'm so grateful I had this prof! I passed OrgoChem1 with a 52% and got an A in OrgoChem2, thanks to this prof. She goes over difficult concepts very clearly and ensures the students are keeping up and understanding. Her lectures are so organized, making studying for exams sooo easy. Also, she has a great sense of humour and is just the sweetest!
I had her for the french version of the class (CHM3522). Super sweet, both the final and the midterm were open book. I found her very fair, all the exercises were predictable from her problem sets/textbook problems. Only thing is that both evaluations were very long, so make sure you're able to orient yourself in your notes quickly/practice a lot!
She was a great prof. She recorded her lectures on Yuja, so we didn't miss anything. If you pay attention and take good notes, you'll do great. Never stop practicing and try to read the textbook before going to class. Even though it isn't mandatory, it really helps you not get lost.
She's explains things clearly & respectfully even if your question is dumb. However, even with the DGDs and online homework, you need to practice a lot because this is a very demanding class to be able to accurately apply the theory. She also optimizes your grades by adjusting their weight. It's tough, but she's better than most profs in orgo II.
Loved her. Shes kind and the exams were super straightforward. Also very interesting
Great prof. I already had her for several classes and I did not regret taking this one either. Super interesting and easy course. Make sure to use flashcards to memorize names and drugs!
I ended up loving this class with El Nachef as a prof. It is very content heavy and the midterms are not the easiest but if you study and actually do the practice problems (which are similar to the exam problems) she provides you with, you can very much end up with a decent grade in this class.
She is so sweet, and her lecture slides are to the point and very useful. She explained the why behind the reactions and deepened my understanding. She has alternative weighing for midterms and the final, and her midterms are identical to past ones. She always posted multiple practice problems, was accessible outside of class and was super patient.
Claudia is a great prof - explains concepts clearly and cares about student success. Lectures are super helpful, plus unstuckstudy was a game-changer for studying. Just stay on top of the material and you'll do well!
Super sweet prof, i ask her like a hundred questions and she still smiles. The course itself is difficult but she's not a difficult professor. If you do the problem sets and take the initiative to understand the material, you'll be fine. As another reviewer said, she explains the “why” behind everything which is just immaculate
I really liked this prof for bps2110! She was really nice and exams were very fair, everything was covered in the slides. The lectures itself and the material could get a little boring, but she did record her lectures and post them a few days later. As long as you memorize everything in the slides this course is pretty easy,
LOVED Professor El Nachef, she taught complicated concepts very well and all of her evaluations were extremely fair. Her final was definitely harder than the midterms but it was my own fault for not preparing as much as I should have, she really cares and helps her students succeed. Take her if you can, she made organic chemistry very enjoyable!
She was a great prof! Easy to follow, gives you all you need to succeed in exams. Midterms were super fair and straightforward. Would recommend!
I loved Dr. El Nachef! She's very caring and you can tell she loves to teach. Although she seemed sick quite often this semester, she still came and taught. The course is very content-heavy, with two midterms and a final. If you develop strong memorization methods you'll do well. The TAs were lenient with marking too.
Professor El Nachef is amazing! She posts her lectures online & cares about students. The course is very content heavy but as long as you study your material in depth, her exams are super fair! Ended up getting a 95 on her final. Make sure to do the practice assignments as well for practice as they closely reflect what is on the midterms!
Dr. El Nachef was so sweet and her midterms/final are super fair as long as you pay attention in class and do the assignments. There is a lot of content to know but if you take the time to actually study you'll be fine. She was often late to class lol but this class was a breeze!
She makes time for students outside class. Go to her office hours and ask questions. Practise makes perfect, do old midterms. Keep up with the lectures. Watch youtube videos.
Absolutely adore her, super sweet professor. It was her first time teaching biopharm and safe to say she made it VERY enjoyable— one of my fav classes. Midterms were extremely fair, final was a bit out of left field but just do the assignments and you will be fine!
THE goat. She was fair with midterms and explained content well even though it was her first time teaching the course. I had her for both biopharm and orgo and she was a pleasure both times. Final for orgo II was difficult compared to the midterms, but she ended up curving final grades. Highly recommend!
Amazing orgo prof. I actually failed orgo 1 miserably the first time I took it with a different prof, but ended it this year with an A- after retaking it with her. Great at explaining concepts in ways that make sense and gives lots of practice material. It's a tough class and exams were difficult but she was generous with marking
A good professor, she can teach chemistry to anyone. However, she's very creative with her exam questions, so understanding the material isn't enough. You basically have to read her mind to not just pass, but to get a good grade.
She's very knowledgeable, but it feels like every class is a quick review of the topic being taught, rather than an actual lecture. She teaches super fast and it's hard to understand the important details of concepts / mechanisms that will be tested because she sometimes brushes over them. Practice a lot of problems even outside of what she posts!!
Class average was a 59. Final exam average was a 50. Seriously what else do I have to say.
She's average, I just hate this class in general. Exams are hard and too heavy for the time given. TA's are HORRIBLE graders, they keep missing points and asking her to re-evaluate is like asking for a death sentence (how can't you do 1+1 and read answers properly?) - yes they did multiple grading mistakes.
LOVE HER SO MUCH OMG THE BEST PROF I'VE EVER HAD. I actually enjoyed coming to her classes and understood organic chemistry for the first time. She is genuinely amazing and is so kind and is so helpful and is such a good explainer best chem prof at uottawa by far!
Teacher is amazing, class is hard that's for sure but if you study you'll be fine! El Nachef is definitely the best ochem prof at uOttawa.
I had her for orgo 1 with only good things to say. I think she did great for that class. Orgo 2 was not the same experience. Take it with Flynn if you can, Claudias exams were much more difficult. She's a good prof but a tough grader and it makes all the difference for when u make one arrow pushing mistake and the whole answer gets marked wrong
Genuinely one of the BEST professor's I have ever had. CHM2120 is very hard course but it helped having such a caring prof who made sure you understood the material AND made time out of class for any clarifications. Would highly recommend taking CHM2120/BPS2110 with her.
An AMAZING prof. She explains concepts super clearly, records lectures on Yuja, and the weight of assessment grades are flexible. I would say the timing of midterms and exams are pretty early with the pace of the course, so make sure to study after each class and 1-2hr everyday to prepare. Use office hours, chem help centre, and u'll do great
