lectures were so long and monotonous that i couldnt help but fall asleep. never incorporated the class into discussion,just gave her shpiel and expected us to know all the material. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU NEED TIME TO SLEEP IN THE MORNINGS!

She knows her stuff but she has no clue about teaching. For exams, study hand-outs and M.Choice questions from study guide. If U have to take this class with her, wait until your last semester or you might drop out of college. Sitting in 1st row helps.

Don't bother with her online classes. She does not answer emails, and adds no value to the class. Quizzes contain flawed questions and diagrams impossible to see clearly. Very frustrating.
Professor Garcia is a good and knowlege lady. However as a teacher and lectur she lacks the understand that students at SMC are collge student, not UCLA or USC. The fact is you should take Econ 2 before you take Econ 1. Another fact is she drops test(s).

I got an A in the class...pay attention and do the readings from the textbook and it'll be easy. She drops 1 test grade AND lets you bring a cheat sheet.

Mrs. Garcia does have an accent, but this is no excused for unclarity.It is the responsibility of the student to ask questions to clarify the material, with all classes.
Got an A in the class. The final is base on the 3 exams she gives. not that bad. Do the problems on the study guide and learned the probles she lectures on.Don't belived the negative hype about her. Garcia is tough, but she can teach. Don't slack on the reading at all. Make sure to ask what she expects you to know for the test. Her teaching can lack clarity when she goes through examples too fast with multiple graphs. However, she helps outside of class. You gotta earn an A but she's forgiving.
easiest teacher ever... she explains everything a million times... I got an A and never opened the book... and if you screw up on a test she drops one... and after every test you work in a group for extra credit with the potential to raise your grade a full 10 pts... whoever did bad is an idiot

She's a cool teacher, takes time to answer the questions when asked. But she does move fast, so if you don't say anything she'll keep on moving. She lets you use 1 pages worth of notes for the test so its not like your on your own
Honestly, I don't know what these 2 users below me are smoking, but Garcia is a terrible instructor. I got an "A" the class, but she does not know how to teach. I had to learn the concepts on my own. SMC students, choose another instructor for ECON.
**ONLINE CLASS** Do NOT take her online course. I'm sure in a real class setting, you can study her lecture and thrive, but online, its not possible. It's difficult to know what she wants. I'm doubtful anyone recieved an A.

She gets down to bussenes. ask questions and remember that she covers the problems that will be on the test. Its not an easy class its self but this i a good professor for seriouse students.

This professor is horrible especially for on-line class. She expects students to know the information despite her lack of clarity. After taking her test I review the information and found that the answers did not correspond to the appropriate chapters.
Garcia is all bussines. Econ is tought enough. I decided to take econ2 with another professor and realize that althougth Garcia was hard, it was worth taking her class. I learned more in her class than with with the other professor. For those who don't want to learn or be challenge, take Carter in the night course. u won't end up WHINING!!!

This teacher make the class easy. IF U CAN'T PASS HER CLASS THEN IT'S YOU.
The way she has the group assignments setup for the online class is impossible to follow. She wants 4 students to do one assignment - online. Perhaps she does not want to take the time to correct 4 times as manay assignments, who knows.

I failed the class... it was my first semester at SMC and I used to love Economics, until she was my teacher. There were really Hard Tests, and really boring lectures. Don't take her unless you think you can pass without being taught.
She's very good at explaining and making sure you understand the material, but she is a harsh grader. STUDY for the tests and ask questions.

Online course is horrible. Half the time she doesn't respond to questions, one was asked 3 days prior to HW due date and by end of due date still no response. All quizes have nothing to do w/HW. No feedback on any of the quizes or HW. No help at all. Doesn't seem as if we even have a prof in this course. I really wanted and tried to learn.
If your thinking of taking this class online, be careful. She assings assingments as a group which means you have to meet your other class mates which is a drag bc the reason your taking class online is bc of time. If your exam happens to shut off, ur out of luck cause she wont reactivate the exam therefore you recieve and F for that exam.

Be prepared to spend 20+ hours for this class. Need to thoroughly read her presentations to do the group work and you will run into diffuculy with uncooperative members in your group. She is very generous with xtra credits. Test are faily easy but the homeworks are tough. 2 homework and a test everyweek.

Worst teacher ever!! Over 60% of the students dropped the class. Grades students on group projects which is terribly unfair, especially considering the# of students who dropped as course went on. Whoever gave her a bad review is crazy. She is the nicest teacher I have ever had. EVER. She is an asset to SMC. She puts her PowerPoints online, gives ample opportunity for extra credit, gives you the test questions before the tests, AND REPLIES QUICKLY TO E-MAILS. She TEACHES the subject so people can LEARN. This teacher is amazing. Obviously the subject is hard, but she makes it so understandable and actually FUN to learn. A lot of people complain and I can understand why: She has a montonous voice, and is very straight to the point. Other than that though :3 tests, and a final. THATS IT. It may seem scary but she gives so much EC its ridiculous.
ONLINE CLASS. This teacher is not good for online classes. She may be great in an classroom class, but she is horrible on line. she is not very helpful, she is not flexible and is not working on Fri/Sat/Sun - when we have a test on mondays. If we have a question, we have to submit it on wednesdays, which is not very flexible for an online class.
This is the worst online class that I have ever taken. The Prof. is not interested in helping students understand micro-economics. The class layout is horrible. If you don’t understand something you have to email her which may take 2 days to respond. Class requires a lot of studying most people ended up dropping due to her being inflexible.

If you can handle a serious class, and do the assigned work/reading, there's no reason why you shouldn't get an A/B. Her power point lectures are OK and the subject is interesting. Doesn't collect homework, no graded group work,just the tests..which are not easy. Come to class and you'll be fine!

No-nonsense teacher, she's very clear with her assignment/s and extremely organized. Attendance is not mandatory, but about 10% of the class is extra credit so show up to class and participate. Test are straight from her PowerPoint presentations which are accessible online. If you don't get an A it's you're own fault.
This was my first online class, and it was not a very good introduction. The teacher was not present in the classroom, and left her students spinning in their questions and concerns. When she did respond, the answers were short in manner and length. The homework, reliant on the textbook and it's questions, were the only consolation in this class

I do not recommend her online class. She is extemely unhelpful and will not answer content questions by email. She did not make her requirements and expectations clear in the beginning of the class. She does not seem to understand that online students are off campus and cannot attend office hours to ask questions she will not answer "in class".
ONLINE classes are not the way to go. Even though her replies are extremely delayed, they are thorough. Quiz answers are not posted and quiz results are not given in a timely manner. I definately recommend taking Econ on campus.
Will not clarify questions regarding previous chapters indicating that they should have been asked when reading the chapter and not after the fact. Should apply the same to herself.....says that quiz grades will be posted by a certain date and often does not post them until several days later. Grant it-Econ doesn't come easy to some. Subject WASN'T easy but I got a B. VERY HELPFUL teacher. Has office hrs-use it. Answers questions. Allows 1-side of paper w/notes/equations for test. Also gives you access to power points for studying.

Do not take this class online or with this teacher. She is a hag, and does not reply to your emails or your questions promptly. Her online quizzes and tests are timed, but that's not the problem. The problem is that she doesn't post the quiz and test questions on time but you only have a day to take the quiz or test. SO MANY PROBLEMS!
Explained everything very clearly. Sometimes over-explained which helped with retaining the information. Great teacher, never had any problems. Need to attend class everyday or you will definitely get lost. Learned extremely well from her. I recommend her!
Very good at explaining things, will help if you have questions. Very nice lady. Daily quizzes, so you have to go to class (got a D in her Econ 2 because I missed too many classes lol), but allows a chance to makeup points missed on test. Great teacher in person (not sure about online).

Prof. Claudia is a really good professor. She explains the concepts extremely well and does reviews before quizzes. Drops lowest test score and gives extra credit. Listen in class and don't skip, you're good to go. Prof Claudia is alo very serious about her teaching. Grades really fairly. Best Econ teacher I've had.
I worked overnight and had her class at 8 am. Still got a A...if you don't have what it takes to be in college, don't take her. She's a real teacher.

DO NOT TAKE ONLINE. I made the horrible decision of taking this class online and it is near impossible. Powerpoints are confusing and you are basically teaching yourself the material. I took this class online and get that feeling that in person she is a good teacher but has not taken the time to develop an online class. The .ppt contain good information, but can be very confusing. You will feel very alone while taking this course. Intimidated by the sight of math? Best to take this in a classroom. Worked very hard, got a B.

A huge problem with the online exams lowered my GPA significantly and she was completely cold and unhelpful regarding the issue. Very clear and good at explaining. But I made the mistake of not paying attention, and so I did not do well. You will have to study though, and work hard. A lot of quizzes (40%) and three tests (60%). You can drop one test and take a cumulative final for 50% of your grade. So if you fail a test or even two, it's not too late to pick up your grade.
ONLINE: She was extremely difficult to get ahold of, and as a prof for an online class, that is vital. The pps were lengthy, and had nothing to do with exams. The questions she used as "homework" were inconsistent to what she was actually looking for in exam responses. She was horrible. Two thumbs WAYY DOWN!
Professor Garcia is a great professor. Yes, the subject is not easy, but she helps you if you are struggling. If you want to pass, go to her office hours and she tells you what you need to do. If you fail one of her exams, you can drop one and take a culmulative final, which may help your grade.
Prof. Garcia is very helpful and willing to answer questions in class or afterward. Little use of textbook required..maybe to clarify some things. Gives ec after exams to boost test scores! SI sessions were offered which clarify lecture and also get ec for attending. Highly recommended
One of the worst Profs. I have taken. She is equivocate in her lectures, highly confusing and contradicts herself constantly. Having previously studied economics in depth, i found what she was teaching to be wrong. I went to go see her about it, she conceded, yet did not re-mark my tests! Took the class online (got a B). I felt like I was taking the course alone and taught myself. Very unresponsive to emails. Test are hard. She gives you 2 exams and one final exam as your total grade. Didn't miss a single class. ECON 2. Attendance isn't necessary, but she has constant quizzes. Quizzes 40% 2 midterms & 1 final 20% each. Her accent is hard to understand sometimes when teaching. Lectures are completely useless and you don't need to know it for the tests. Reading the book is more helpful. You can download the book on the web.
I took her online ECON 2 class. I have to disagree with some of the other posters in that I found her tests to be basically straight from the material (assigned reading and powerpoints) and with copious time allowed. I find it hard to believe that anyone could struggle with the class if they studied the recommended time per week for a 3 unit class.
One of the worst teachers I have come across. She doesn't respond to e-mails until a week later, sometimes not at all. Her answers are no more that one sentence and half the time we (the students) are correcting her. I'm basically teaching myself because there is NO support.

This professor is a very intelligent and well educated woman from Columbia. Her accent is very easy to understand, but she does talk a lot. She is incredibly repetitive at times as to drive points home to her slower students. The only complaint is that you must attend for her ppt-based quizzes but purchase her Aplia that are based on the textbook
First thing's first, she has a thick accent. She sounds like Sofia Vergara, so she is hard to understand. Secondly, she has a quiz almost every class so if you are one who skips class occasionally, don't take this class. Lastly, her test are all online and VERY difficult. Some of the questions aren't at all what she went over or in the book. AVOID.
Professor Claudia is awesome! She is the reason I am changing my major! She is very intellegent and highly informed. She worked with me in everyway possible. All I had to do is ask. She may not freely offer information but if you ask she will provide you with what you need. Some may not like this because they want the world handed to them on a platter but she teaches you what it's like in the real world. A closed mouth doesn't get fed!
DO NOT TAKE. This class is completely without structure, just 6 quizzes and some homework. Her ppts are beyond useless. The book is not well written. The quizzes are poorly designed. You will learn nothing from this class. Which is a complete shame, this is a vital subject in today's world. Don't waste your money & time on this section.
I honestly need to disagree with a lot of the harsh reviews on here....A lot of people say she's confusing and super hard yet the average grade is an A? She was good about going over material that students didn't do too well in her previous classes. However, what caused me to drop an entire grade was the online homework, and quizes. It was a large sum of the grade, but what she taught in her lectures was very different from the online text and homework which made things very confusing.
This class was confusing. The online work didn't match what was taught in class, and it was very hard to follow her through her lectures. I would not recommend this class if you are unfamiliar with economics.
Horrible class. Teacher regularly comes 10-15 minutes late, has very thick accent and cant explain concepts in a articulated manner. She gives lots of quizzes (almost every class) but gives the chance; drops the lowest one and some are extra credit. Online book is used, power point accessible. Little accent. Takes this attendance. All of the quizzes are reviewed before taking it. I recommend this teacher

This teacher is really not good. I took an online class for ECON1, and never talked to her, she would never return my emails, it felt like my professor wasnt even there. After the course has ended and I finished everything, I got an F and I am 100% sure I did not get an F. I have to apply to schools and she is not returning my emails, once again.

I dont know why her rate is so low. After every chapter, there is a quiz and it is not that difficult if u just properly review it. Her online tasks are ways to boost up your grade, which means they are so easy, but Dont do them in last minute.. U wont do very well.. Every exam was in her lecture slides, easy to study. Very simple math.
honestly, one of the worst profs I've ever had. her teaching style is so disorganized and messy & its really hard to understand thru her broken english. her notes are super messy and she quizzes you on things u learned that day almost every day. Ive never been even close to failing a class but I think this just may be the one. DONT take her trust!!
Wow I really disagree with the bad reviews. She is funny, nice and super chill. yeah there is a lot of quizes but they are super easy, always identical to the hand outs and you are allowed to have cheat sheets! Her english is not that bad, I have no problem understanding what she is saying and im not even from the U.S. She's a good teacher!
Took her Econ1, Spring 2019. Quizzes EVERY week, almost every class, but those are exactly same with the outline she gave in class. You can retake the midterm at the end of semester. Her lectures are easy to understand, all you need to do in class is take note! Although I'm not good at English, I still understand her! Love her, love Economic!
in the start of the semester I thought this class was going to be my hardest class turns out it was is the easiest. honestly do the class work. she lets you use all your notes for her quizzes. take her, her english is not the best but she does not mind re explaining stuff.
I took Professor Claudia for Econ1 and Econ2 and she is one of best professors I have ever had. She's a very patient and caring person, passionate and well informed in her teachings, encourage office hours for everyone, gives at least two quizzes every week, and online homework assignments and canvas quizzes are apart of your grade.
I took her online class for spring and honestly it was an easy A class. Her assignments are only tests for each chapter and mind tap assignments, that's all. The answers for the tests are mostly on quizlet. Only con would prob be that mind tap access is pretty expensive...
I dont recommend. She was never available to talk to anyone. Quizzes where on Quiz-let however tests where not. Did not teach at all. We had to teach ourselves based on some powerpoint slides.
Took her before quarantine and loved the class and the way she taught. Her teachings where easy to follow. After when we went to learning remotely she didnt teach at all. It was very difficult to keep up with her work.
I took her asynchronous econ 2 class. Every assignment due at the end of the semester with no checkpoints or due dates, this means you have to plan and schedule all the work yourself. The course is split between mindtap readings/assignments and her slideshows with tests. Her slideshows are incredibly bad and useless. Test answers are all on Quizlet

Took her Econ 2 course this fall and I cant agree with some of the bad reviews on here! Course is self paced, Professor is hard to get a hold of quickly but she does teach many courses. Learn the material and you will receive an A thats about it. Her lectures match the quizzes its all about how much you prepare.
She is lecture-heavy but replaces lectures with just powerpoints which is what I believe, hinders students from receiving a good grade. Her lecture quizzes take up 60% of the overall grade but without live lectures, classes like Economics seemed more difficult than it should be. I reckon take her if you enjoy self-studying! Definitely wasn't for me

Do not take this class. I repeat do not take this class. Get it drilled into your head that everything is asynchronous: every quiz, test, lecture, and homework assignment is all done by you and taught by you. You ain't getting help from anybody. If you can't do everything on your own ... this class is so not worth it!!! Highly do not recommend.

So here is the issue that many are having. Her textbook quizzes are on Quizlet but she knows that. 60% of your grade are lecture quizzes which she writes herself. The quizzes are easy if you read the PowerPoint and take notes. The powerpoints are self-explanatory and realistic. Don't expect this class to be on google but it's really not that hard.
Do not take this class! Theres no structure to her class at all, the lectures are silent powerpoints that are impossible to decipher, and the lecture quizzes dont match the material covered in said powerpoints. She is never available and takes days to answer emails, dont sign up if youre not ready to teach yourself the entire course.
There was somewhat a lot of assignments of cengage. On top of that she averages the assignments if you get a question wrong she will not replace it with the higher score so you gave to get the questions right on your first try to get full credit. Also lecture quiz did not match her powerpoints and no recorded lectures. Lazy prof.
Do not take this class with this teacher. It's very hard and when you email her for clarification, she doesn't clarify at all. I had to drop this class because it brought my GPA down.

Rude, not reasonable at all, really hard tests which she gives out of the sky obviously, there are no answers anywhere, teaches one lecture, gives completely different on the test, honestly really bad at her job all in all.

Test do not reflect the lectures. Take professor brown or Marshall instead of her they are 100 times better save your self the headache
Guess what? Lectures are power point slides that don't teach you anything you need to know for her quizzes and tests. Better yet her description on her syllabus is blatantly false. Claims that she uses textbook and lecture questions on tests but she doesn't. Her lectures are terrible. No teaching involved. Would not recommend. Terrible professor.
her lectures are formatted weird and don't help with the lecture quizzes, her class was really difficult and it's pretty hard to keep up. good luck if you decide to take her but i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy
Honestly this professor's class wasn't as hard as I was expecting. Your grade is based heavily on the lecture quizzes but she provides worksheets that have similar questions as the ones on the tests. The professor also gives extra credit which helps. It just requires a little more studying than most would like but the class overall was manageable.
STAY AWAY! I should have searched here before taking her class. It's awful. Way too many tests and quizzes but no feedback, you won't know why you got anything wrong until the end of the semester but by then who cares? You're so burnt out it doesn't even matter. The lectures never matched up to the quizzes, questions were random.
Don't ever take this class. That can Ruin your life and your GPA. The test are so hard even if you study hard. There's nothing that we learn on the test. The Test are so hard and long.
The topics that are covered in the provided lecture are not even on the lecture quiz. Its almost the exact opposite. I've never felt so confused in my life. I do not recommend. Especially towards the end of the class the material got harder and the lecture helped very little compared to the information given on the exams.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I really wish I would have checked this site first, this class is an easy way to mess up your GPA. The class average for all quizzes was legit barely above 60%. Im pretty sure at least half the class or more did not pass the class.
If you want a taste of poor American edu., take this class. You'll read thru 30-60 boring+confusing slides. You'll teach yourself to understand wth's going on. Textbook quizzes are NOT related to what u learn. Prof. doesn't care about writing good emails. Just do 1 question for pdf hw cuz it's too much and lecture doesn't teach most of it.
Honestly..... let me save your time! AVOID her class if you want to pass and its a requirement!!!!! The amount of quizzes and homework assignments are insane! And difficult!! This class is based 50% off of quizzes/exams. You have to participate in the class discussions every week. She also NEVER gets back to your emails!! Just terrible.
This professor was awful. It was my first Econ class taken at SMC and she was awful. Didn't answer any of my emails, all the homework was due at the end of the summer session so you really have to pace your work. Lecture quizzes were 50% of my grade. The lecture quizzes are what made my grade fall. My first C at SMC. Do not recommend
Im in the middle of my course at the moment, and this is the most crappy class I've ever taken. 50% of your total grade is lecture quizzes. So if you do badly once your grade is already messed up. It's only like 25 assignments but they can mess up your grade if you just mess up once. Id rather have more homework than low points.
Very removed and impersonal responses to inquiries. Does not seem to take a personal approach to students concerns. Very cold and harsh responses to honest questions and needed feedback. Shows a general lack of care for students and makes very little effort in providing feedback on any level.
This class was a lot of work, and by that I mean you will teach yourself everything. Wouldn't recommend for someone that can't study independently. All assignments due at the end of semester, likely for many to fall behind. Super flexible class though...
HORRIBLE slides. This professor should NOT be teaching. Her slides have not been updated for the past four years and shows her laziness. She just provides slides that you have to slowly click through. There are errors in her slides. She should be fired for doing nothing but posting her existing slides. You will regret it if you take her course!
terrible teacher. No actual teaching, just slides that take over an hour to get through because of animations, not even because of the reading material. Lecture quizzes are confusing and have many mistakes. Do not take this class, actual studying skill/"smart" does not matter at all.
Tough course with tricky exams that don't align with lectures. Lots of quizzes and participation required. Unresponsive to emails. But unstuck ai can help prep for this challenging class.
Lecture quizzes=40% of grade and final 40% of grade. Lecture slides don't always match up with the quizzes which was absurd. If you meet her in person she's great at explaining things but she should not be teaching online.
You can get an A, but only if you do A LOT of work outside of class. She creates all of her own material, but her lectures can be hard to follow. If you can keep up with the heavy course load, you can do well. With that being said, her class is not easy at all.
Her class is quite difficult if you procrastinate and don't do the classwork, but you can definitely pass if you take notes and reach out for help. Overall, she is very nice and good at explaining.
