Dr. Kraemer was OK. She covers the entire textbook during the course and then has the final exam on the whole text, which is quite difficult for a 200-level science course. Otherwise, take advantage of her sparse extra credit.
talks about sex openly
really hard... recommend you not take this, unless this is the only class your taking that semester
good luck in her class. shes really hard. you wanna pass?? READ THE TEXT FOR EVERY MINOR DETAIL
Very hard, only way to pass is by reading every inch of the text book. By far the hardest multiple choice exams Ive ever taken. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!! Nice lady however.
I hate this lady, honestly the worst teacher EVER, dont take this class, unless your an honors student.... she will HATE YOU
Her tests do tend to have some random questions on them but they are fair, she is very knowledgeable and makes the content interesting. You will do well if you put in the effort. Cool accent too...
I HATED this class. I loved bio in H.S. so was excited to take it again, but this was way too hard for a low lvl/gen. ed. requirement. She's a nice woman, but I could barely understand what she said, and her lectures were SO boring I just stopped paying attention. Her tests are ridiculously hard...average in her class is a C...
She is very nice, but the class is tough. It has a lot of lab work... hufa!!! I can't wait for the sem be over. If you don't mind work hard this class is for you
Great teacher, one of the best in school. If you do bad in her class, its your fault. Simple as that.
She is a nice person , however if you want a good grade in her class you need to be ready to work really hard and especiall STUDY REALLY HARD....her tests tend to be on six chapters at a time, which are each full of info....so u defintely need to start studying at least a week before the test if you wanna do really well. Dont skip the reading
If she offers extra credit be sure to take advantage of it! Go to class and pay attention to the lecture. If you read he chapter before the lecture it's much easier to understand. Use the CD with the book and study the terms in bold! Any of them can show up on the test. I really enjoyed her class.
As long as you put forth the effort you can get an A
nice lady, just has favorites, hard to get a good grade in this class.
Dr. Kraemer is awesome. She wants you to succeed, and if you're there to learn and study you have a chance to get an A. She goes by the book, take advantage of her power points. Her lab queezes are challenging, she may question you on extra stuff that's not in the lab manual. Be sure to read NY Times articles, they make a difference! Great class!
She is great teacher and she focuses in the book. She gives a lot of extra credits which help a lot. Always take advantage of them. Biology is a hard topic anyway and it requires a lot a studying. It is not impossible to get an A, just put the effort.
If you're a teacher's pet>then you'll get a good grade...she doesn't care about the students that are failing....she loves to put you down
She is not easy at all, you have to study really hard. Don't take her class, I personality don't recomend to take her class! However she is a nice person, but she is not easy as a professor!
This class is so hard. It's way too hard for non science majors. The professor is really cool though. Shs assigns of lot of extra credit...do them, it's the only way you will pass!! For the lab, there is a quiz every night. Must read the book. I ended up with a C.
Dont take this class .She grades way too hard
Pr.Kraemer is great, my favourite, loved her. Never liked BIO but she made it fun, interesting & you actually can take a lot from it for yourself. Just show her you are trying hard, do well on quizes, keep up with extra cr. assignments & you'll do absolutely fine.Once you read chapters before the class & add on to lectures, she'll adore you.
She's really helpful and nice to most students but being the only minority in the class made it very difficult. She's nice to the white students, even though I received 90's across all the Labs she told me that she would be failing me on the day of the final and I shouldn't bother taking it. Myself and others have brought this the schools attention
Great teacher. honestly love her class. she is very helpful . she offers help to students who really want it . would recommend her to everyone . !
I loved her Biology class, very smart lady but she's tricky. Every lab there will be a pop quiz and sometimes during class without notice, Exams are 50 questions. Do the extra credit, DEF. read the book and participate!
Kraemer for lecture and lab was awesome. She will not let you just BS the class, you need to do your work. She does post the slides online, but you should come to the lectures anyway because she does pop quizzes. Exams are 50 multiple choice questions based on the stuff covered IN class. The book is very helpful for studying as well.read nytimes!
She is an amazing teacher and if you try hard and care about the subject and your grade there is no limit to how much she will be willing to help you in class as well as in your future. She is the definition of what a teacher should aspire to. Thank you Prof. Kraemer!
She has an italian accent. Her slideshows do not help at all with studying. Her lectures can put you to sleep. If you have the heart and dedication for biology then take the course, and if you have bad study skills DO NOT take the course you will FAIL. You literally have to memorize the entire book and her exams are HARD
Hot. Take the class if you have a good work ethic/are a good student. Otherwise don't. The course itself is demanding. She follows the book chapter for chapter - you have exactly what you need to study. Clear teaching style. There's plenty of opportunity for extra credit with private research (ie. studying disappearance of bee's). Also: hot.
If you don't try, don't expect to pass. Heard it was super hard, but most of the people who told me that, suck at school. Easily passable
Ridiculous. Her entire class consists of taking tests that rely on your knowledge of random, disparate specifics and with no respect for general ideas. It's apparently more important to know how many digits the cornified hoof of a horse covers or what you call the horns on the head of a giraffe than to be able to identify a synapsid.
People will tell you that this class is extremely hard. Those people do not know how to study. It requires a lot of work but it is more than possible to get an A. Prof Kraemer is clear, fair, and there for her students if they need help. The book is your best study material. Not a bad class at all.
Claudia is very helpful and insightful. She will always help students when need be and has plenty of extra credit opportunities. Her tests, however, are very hard since they're based on random, insignificant mc questions...they are very specific. If you study from the book and take practice tests, you will definitely pass.
Puts alot of pressure on kids.Power points are long&boring. Profss think that lectures will teach students but they do not. This is how we fall asleep easily and stop paying attention. Her accent is very difficult to understand. She's intelligent& but does not BS. If you want a challange, take this course. Literally cried bc I was failing;dropped it.
Again, just like bio, she is helpful, but her tests questions are random! Literally, you have to memorize little random, non-imperative facts from the book or power points to get As. Your knowledge isn't being tested, your ability to remember "how old is the Earth (in years)?" apparently is.
This is the second class I took with her, I enjoyed both. She automatically curves an A- to an A,she says this in the syllabus. Read the book and study the lectures, you should be fine. lots of extra credit! She gave us a quiz that we all failed, Instead of counting it as a grade like most professors she turned it into extra crdit points, very cool
Helpful professor, random test questions. Pretty sure she doesn't make up the tests- they'll seem easy at first, but then you end up getting 70s for random deductions for all the dumb questions that are on it. "How old is the Earth (in years)?" "How does a gorilla walk?" Know WHICH LEMUR HAS A WET NOSE.
You're the best Kraemer! Had her class for non-major bio but still learned more than 80% of other classes. Really knows how to teach and make science fun.
Awful Professor, Really wished she'd just quit already!
Kraemer is a great professor despite what others say. The only way to do well in this class is study study study. Read the book everyday and understand the concepts of the chapter!
Dr. Kraemer is not a good teacher at all. I enjoyed her lectures, but when it was time for an exam to be given none of the material gone over in class matches what is covered on the exam. She also gives you the "stink eye," if she thinks you don't like her class or teaching style.
I took her Biology 1107 class in my freshman year and suffered. There are only four tests, each on at least 7 full chapters of the textbook. I can see where she's coming from but it's insane how many details you're expected to memorize. She's a solid teacher but with unrealistic standards - I'd prefer more tests with less content on each of them.
Be prepared to study EVERYDAY the only way you pass the class is if you read the chapters cover to cover & do online quizzes. Read before class. Take book notes, lectures notes and lab notes. Tests are hard & straightforward . She is nicer than she seems. Very possible to get at least A just DO NOT bs this class. If you can avoid her as an option
The class is beyond difficult. I have seen some people have an A in her class before. However, it's very difficult to achieve this. Read every day, take online practice tests, come to lecture, study with others, ask questions, study everyday for at least two hours and stay healthy.
She is a cool lady, but her class is really hard and boring. She expects us to remember every tiny detail, which is completely impossible. I barely went to her lectures because she literally just reads the PP. I feel like she'd be a great professor if she works on a couple things. Overall, that class was super hard, but I think I learned a lot.
The tests are very straightforward, but make sure you read in advance and take online quizzes. She is very generous when you show up to lecture, so be aware of extra credit quizzes or a small boost in your grade if you show that you work hard and care.
Cool professor. But if you're ready to suffer, please take this class. Exams are unreasonable, studied my ass off still barely passed them. Six chapters in an exam, what does she expect us to do? Eat the entire textbook? Please DO NOT take this class if you want to enjoy your life.
If you are lazy do not take her. If you appreciate challenges - take her. You must read the textbook to pass her tests and do the chapter review quizzes online. She is tough but only because she wants for her students to be well prepared. I would take again.
Compare to BIO 1107, this class is wayyyyyyy easier. YOU HAVE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK, EVEN WHEN SHE SAID ITS OPTIONAL! She loves to add minor details/ what she said in lectures into her tests. Still doable and the lectures are better than BIO 1107. Just study a few days forehand and you be fine
Pretty tough class. There are about 5-6 chapters per exam. you have to read the textbook or else you won't pass. she says that she only uses the lecture slides for herself, so she knows what topics to talk about. she also said that 75% of the class is failing and she doesn't care. there were 40 people in my lecture, now there are about 12.
Professor Kraemer's class is a mixed bag. You're graded on only three tests and they're on 7 to 8 chapters each. She can be funny but she's usually rude and dismissive. Also she basically just reads power points all class. Overall I did learn a good amount but it was a very boring and frustrating experience.
Second time having Dr. Kraemer and I love her lectures a lot. She is very funny and caring. This is a hard class but if you take it with Dr. Kraemer and you show up to class and pay attention, you should be fine. Only 3 exams and exams are fair. Theres also extra credits 5% of ur grade. Also, participation/attendance pts added at the end.
Pretty tough class. Dont just review lectures if you want to do well you MUST read the chapters in the textbook and take the practice quizzes in the back of each chapter. If you show an interest she will take that into consideration and help your grade. For those who do this the class is pretty straight forward and fair but study a little everyday
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT !!! IT IS SO HARD TO PASS AND IT REQUIRES ALOT OF TIME. EVEN TALKING TO THE PROFESSOR AND GOING TO THE TUTORING DID NOT HELP ANYTHING. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST. the teacher is nice though.
As long as you read the textbook and don't just rely on the slides and study a little everyday its an easy A. She also gives extra credit opportunities that really help. If she sees you making an effort she will help you out. Lectures are not too interesting but material is kind of.
I never went to lecture and just read the textbook. The tests are based mostly off what is in the textbooks not in the slides as those are missing a lot of info. If you go over every test with her after you take it shell boost your grade. She literally says you won't do well on test if you don't read the textbook and people still don't then get mad
Scares students into studying- not the best way to motivate first years. Is not friendly, berates you in office hours and I never left feeling like I cleared up concepts. Her tests are all multiple choice- don't expect them to be easy. Really would avoid her at all costs, save yourself the trouble and have a better semester without her.
I will save you the time and stress. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She is incredibly rude, will not help you even if you come to her everyday with questions, and would rather you drop out of her class than actually try to help anyone. The tests are multiple choice and could be on literally ANYTHING in the text book, never specified what was on the exam.
please try to AVOID taking classes with this professor!!!! IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE get ready to read and feel overwhelmed. She even told my FRESHMAN class that she was getting annoyed by our ?s and now is refusing to answer them. One day she blabbed for an hour about her old toothless cat. WHY DO I CARE? Try to never take a class with her.
Professor Kraemer is hands-down the worst teacher. She does not care if something she says is unclear & gets frustrated when you don't understand her instructions or a concept. She makes powerpoints that she voices over, but she does not use them to make the test. Everything is based on the textbook. I would not take any course of hers again.
Brags about how many students fail her class each semester. You will not pass unless you teach yourself everything from the textbook.
Let me say this, Claudia Kraemer has ruined my life. Tests are so hard, if you follow her lecture you will fail, only 10% of the class passes above a C.
Professor Kraemer is one of the hardest professors at UConn Stamford. You need to work super hard to do well. Make sure you read the textbook! Her slides are only an overview of the chapters. If you arent a science major I wouldnt suggest taking her. Tests are difficult and some questions are super specific!
I wouldn't take this class again. If you read the textbook you'll definitely pass. I completely ignored the lectures she posted and just didn't show up. Lowkey rode off the little knowledge I had from AP bio. Try to establish a connection with her, maybe she'd have been more helpful if I had done that earlier.
I'd rather have someone run my foot over than to take another class with this woman. Makes everything hard for no reason. She wants you to fail 100%.
I never attended a single lecture because I learned off the bat that the slides that she provided was all just general information and everything you need to know is in the textbook. I took her for both Bio 1107 and 1108, and she specifically says that you need to read the textbook in order to pass. Don't know why you guys are complaining lmao.
DON'T take this class. It's a really difficult class plus you are basically on your own to learn the material from the book. Most of the class drops out as well. Just take Bio with another professor because it's a lot of stress.
For the amount of crap that everyone says about Professor Kraemer, she really is not that bad. That being said, I understand where everyone is coming from. The exams are heavily textbook based. Simply taking notes from her slides and attending lecture will land you a 60%. Take this class if you know how to self study and read a textbook.
The most ruthless vague professor ever!!! Do NOT take if possible. She just reads off the slides. Does not engage with students. The curriculum needs to be revised. She blames students for her own failure.
Imma be completely honest. DO NOT take this class expecting an A. She will have you work like crazy. First day she says half of you will fail or drop my class. Dont even bother criticizing her teaching style or the fact that you need it to graduate. SHE DOES NOT CARE!!
She did not care that more than half of the class had to drop, and actually encouraged them to do so. Every exam had a low class average.
Worst Professor I've had so far. I ended up dropping because the class was unbearable. Taking this course again and pray I have another professor. Seemed like she encouraged students to drop the class...
Great lecturer, and happy to answer questions. Don't complain about a poor grade when you don't show up to lecture, don't read the book, and don't study
can barely understand her bc of her accent, talks very fast, doesnt care if you dont understand
super horrible made me depressed
Honestly Professor Kraemer isn't as terrible as many people say, she isn't the worst professor at UConn. It's true that she only reads the slides and you almost have to teach yourself by reading the textbook. She has a strong accent as well. But all the exams are multiple choice and she is accessible outside class. Take another professor if you can
I think these reviews are very misleading. Her powerpoints are very clear, easy to follow, and go over what you need to know. Yes, she's strict about deadlines and time restrictions, but that should be expected because it's college. My advice is: do not skip class, bc often she mentions things not in PPT that will be on the test, and take notes.
In my entire life, I have never had a single teacher/ professor as awful as this one. She bragged the first day of class that she fails 70% of the students that take this class. We were forced to teach ourselves 95% of the class content and she wouldn't let our lab professor offer us extra help. Everyone else I know that took this course agrees.
ppl who say she's bad didn't try. it's a college BIO class, it's supposed to be hard. if you are a good student and can put in time you will be ok. She is funny, and nice. Very fair grader. textbook based exams. 5 exams (lowest drop). EC too. Attend lectures & participate because she pushed my grade up at the end. fav prof this semester!
Kraemer has a misleading reputation. If you put in the work, organize yourself, and study intelligently, you'll do fine. My last bio class before this was like 5 years ago. People who do really badly are either not putting in the time, have poor study habits, or dislike the material (a valid reason). Use all resources and balance your time.
I've taken multiple classes with Kraemer and she is one of my favorite professors. You're not expected to "teach yourself" like some reviews say. She goes over material you need to know but you're obviously gonna have to study outside of class, it's biology. She is funny, caring and enthusiastic. I recommend taking her upper level courses.
The class itself isn't difficult and Kraemar doesn't make it difficult, it's just a lot of material that has to be retained. I stopped going to the lectures halfway through the semester, passed 3/5 exams using the quizzes, and got a B-. Your grade is based on 10 quizzes or 4 exams, whichever is higher, so not too difficult.
Register at your own risk
this is the worst professor EVER. Take my advice she does not care about her students AT ALL.The tests are hard and the class average is almost always 50%. The quizzes are not helpful and there is no homework to bring up your grade. Do any other professor or wait until the next semester if you want to save your gpa and your mental health. mwah
Tbh she just read off slides the whole class, no homework to bring up your grade or practice outside of class, she didn't try to get people engaged or to participate. Despite this, something that saved almost all of the students is that you can pick between exams and quizzes for your final grade. Just focus in one and you will get a passing grade.
Just don't do it, the whole class is essentially her reading the slides. prepare yourself mentally for the amount of hours you'll have to put into the class. Also, there's a lot of reading for the textbook, if you don't read it you'll be severely behind.
Only lectures based on the textbook. Her lectures are not laid out properly, it takes a lot of time to digest the information she reads through the slides. Her exams are online however, uses lockdown browser and all of the questions were confusing and some did not relate to lecture.
her exams are crazy hard. whoever says she is a good teacher, is a liar. lectures have nothing to do with exams. I study so many hours a week and I am getting terrible grades on the exam. you have a better chance doing good with Fusco.
Professor Kraemer gives clear instruction on what you need to do to pass this class. Success in this course goes as follows: read the textbook thoroughly, take good notes, and spend about 12 hours a week studying. I loved this course, and it is a FUNDAMENTALS level class— it SHOULD be easy if you are planning on going into a medical related field.
Lectures are almost pointless to go to since all the slides she reviews are posted online. Her class isn't necessarily hard, it's just that YOU have to put in the effort to pass the class. YOU are expected to read the textbook to pass the exams/quizzes. The professor has little-no opportunities for extra credit, and provides almost no assistance.
Professor Kraemer is nice and easy to talk to. Read the textbook as it will greatly help and much of the content shows up in the tests. EC was offered for my class, so make sure to participate! Some quiz questions also appear in the exams.
Be prepared to have quizzes/tests each class!! If my overall bio grade was based on lecture alone (which I had Kraemer for) I would've ended up with an A-. If you are not ready/comfortable with reading the textbook (attentively) then consider another teacher. Kraemer is great at explaining concepts so be sure to ask questions in lecture/office hour
She gets a bad rap, but if you're engaged in the lecture and read the textbook, the class is not that hard. Every bad grade I've gotten in this class was absolutely my fault due to not studying appropriately. She said at the beginning of the semester that as long as you read the textbook, passing should not be a problem.
The sweetest woman at UCONN. That being said, her intro class is hard on purpose. If you can survive 1107, you can continue fine. Prepare to read a lot of the textbook outside of class & focus on that as well as yt vids on the matter. Always there in office hours to help/explain. Is forgiving & pays attention to who puts effort in! BIG EXAMS!
Don't listen to the harsh comments! I took her for 1108 because of my schedule, and it was the best choice. She makes it clear you need to read the textbook to keep up due to a lot of vocab. She's kind, funny, and offers online appointments where she'll explain until you understand. It's a tough weed-out class, but your grade reflects your effort.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The only people who will ever recommend her are people who'd get A's in their sleep. If you actually need to try hard to get good grades in college, Kramer is impossible.Take ANYONE ELSE, I promise you won't regret it.
Kraemer is great! (imo a lot of people give her bad reviews bcuz they don't want to put the effort in). Taking for the 1st time and she's honestly an amazing professor. Shes funny and asks many questions in class that you can answer. Class isn't mandatory but encouraged bcuz sometimes she will say important things in class worthy of writing down.
Dr. Kraemer is a good professor in terms of making the lectures interactive and providing extra credit. The only problem I have is I wish there were quizzes or homework assignments to get that grade boost because Human Genetics is difficult and not for everyone. Luckily I passed the exams with no lower than a 72%.
Honestly I had a horrible biology teacher in high school and did not know that much about biology before taking 1107, but professor Kraemer makes the material and lectures really clear. She's passionate and even knows her stuff about healthcare. I won't lie, the exams are difficult, but as long as you put the effort in then you'll do great!
She grades the class with very few things. Take advantage of the extra credit she gives. Theres honestly no point in going to her lectures since it barely helps on the actual exams. Her PowerPoints are not that good, better to just study the chapter summaries on your own. You have to put in a lot of work for this class.
I've had Dr. Kraemer twice and she's not bad, it's just that almost your entire grade is based off of exams. Some of it on extra credit. I got a B, but I wish she would give more quizzes or homework out. Sometimes there are grammatical errors on exams, sometimes things are worded weirdly so watch out for that.
