If you are serious about art and modern art you must take this class! If her lectures jump, it is because she has too much info to put into a survey course. To do well you must attend class. I took tons of notes on the readings, her lectures and studied the key terms and paintings. Still didn't succeed. It was hard to know what to take notes on because she goes off on tangents. I had to buy $50 video games that counted as points. It took me 15+ hours to complete. The tests are less than 20 questions long and are full of random trivia.

The class is comprised of HOURS of lecture videos that do not do much to help you on the proctored tests. We also had to pay $50 for two video games that were extremely time consuming and not beneficial at all. Overall, this class caused me WAY too much stress for a 100 level class and I would recommend avoiding.

Professor Mesch is very knowledgable of the subjects she teaches, but her lectures are all over the place. Always come to class because there are pop quizzes. She doesn't give clear criteria for her group projects, and then when you don't do as well as you hoped on a project she provides no feedback as to how you could have done better.

So the class is honestly an easy but the professor is awful. You have 3 exams, discussions due every couple of weeks, but the video games take way to long for a 100 level class. The reason I rated the teacher so bad is because she does not respond to email & was not helpful in this course. I would take this class but find another professor for it

Boring, awful lectures, changed grades after already imputing them earlier in the class. I was bored out of my mind, she makes you buy two games that one doesn't even work so bye to 50 dollars. Just get the work done and study enough and you will pass but even then, it's hard bc she is so uninteresting in lectures.

The class is very lecture heavy. The lectures were pretty boring to watch though. The class is graded by quizzes which are open book and 2 game projects which you play the games. This was sort of fun but other than learning about the state of affairs about the Medicis you don't really learn much from it. Side note, dont see point of learnng History

If you like art history, you will like Mrs. Mesch. The lectures have lots of good information and I enjoyed them. There are weekly quizzes on the lectures and no tests. There is also a project to be completed in the form of a game or movie/book review. The work is not hard as long as you don't do it last minute. I would recommend if you like art!

Although It is a very hard class, I enjoyed it a lot. I took lots of notes on the book, and notes on the lectures. There is an image list and a key words list (LOVED IT) that I used to make my own study guide using lectures notes and flash cards. I took this class Fall of 2019, and I sill recall information that I learned. Loved this class.

This teacher knows a lot about the subject and obviously loves it. But she drove me crazy with her lectures. She rambles all over the place and you're left wondering what it was you were supposed to remember in the first place. If I was just listening to her for fun, that would be okay, but not when trying to retain facts for tests.

Long lectures with accessibility features (2x speed, skip back/forward, opening new tabs) disabled. Prof speaks slowly/patronizing. Questions embedded in lectures with unclear wording, often unrelated to the lecture & textbook entirely. If you get one wrong, you have to watch the entire lecture over to try again. No effective way to contact prof.

The professor seems like a nice person. This review is regarding the Art Lumiere game we had to play which was most of our grade in the end. The game was ridiculously hard and I could not get through it all. This class was very stressful for me unfortunately. There are a lot of lectures and coursework for a summer course.

most of the quiz questions either don't make sense or are illogical and require you to constantly follow up to figure out what you did wrong- of which she won't respond unless you type in a hyper specific way and even then she won't give a real answer

She is strict with grading. Her quizzes are kind of tolerable. I had the option of playing an art game or writing a paper for the final. I did the game, it was boring but easy. She has plenty lectures, and makes us answer questions throughout. Also, makes it so we can't watch them in any faster speed than 1x; talks so slow and the videos get long.

I see a lot of people complaining about this class but it wasn't that bad. I turned on the lectures while i was drawing, and chose the video game. The quizzes were actually pretty difficult. But anything above an 85% is an A. It was fast paced, but as a B session that was expected. Prof. missed an email of mine, but made up for her mistake.

The lectures are good and concise learned a lot from them, the quizzes are horrible, it seems she focuses on trying to trick students with semantics or wording on the questions rather than test the knowledge on the works of art covered and this is coming from someone that got an A.... useless questions. Finally expect ZERO flexibility from her part

I've never spoken with such a pedantic (and pretentious) person. Also, the test wording is designed to trick you rather than test your knowledge. This isn't an education; it's an "art historian" on an ego trip. I was genuinely excited to take this course and am disappointed to find Dr. Mesch at the helm.

Though this class and instructor were a little tough, I did enjoy them. My only complaint was about the game. It was very time consuming and repetitive. Quizes were tricky, but you can figure them out. She likes to put "two truths and a lie" in her answers. Just find the answer that doesnt match with her lectures. Anyting above an 85 is an a.

I'm saddened to see Prof. Mesch have such low ratings. I almost didn't take her course because of them. Yes, she does ramble in her lectures, but she is so knowledgeable and passionate. When you reach out, you really unlock the true value of her professorship at ASU. I have taken three of her courses and wish I could take more. Don't sleep on her.

This professor is extremely pretentious and she has trouble accepting anyone's opinion other than her own. Even with an online class, she is very opinionated about certain perspectives and she's rude. If you take a class from her, be prepared to be picked apart as if you were an art history graduate. Anyone majoring outside of art history beware.
