be prepared to work for an A. Online homework, yay!
don't take her class!!
fascinating, brilliant, challenging

Awesome person but way too much work for a humanities gen ed class!!!! Be ready to write and analyze everything!!!!!
The best class I've had at UCF. Challenging at times; engaging; interesting and flexible assignments. Willing to talk to you outside of class and give ideas and MAKE YOU THINK.
A teacher worthy of the word- She actually makes you think and yes, that means work, but it's not too much to handle. I plan on taking another class taught by her. Most work is submitted online- whoo hoo!
This teaching is fun, funny, challenging, interesting, and helpful. It doesn't get better than this.
Fun, exciting, inquisitive, interesting, knowledgable, and great class material as well. Loved it. Best Gen Ed class ever.
not good
I took her for sex, gender and philosophy... very difficult class. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are REALLY into the subject matter and enjoy philosophy courses. very intelligent though.
She is a wonderful professor and I wish I could take another class with her.
very interesting class and presented well. as long as you do the readings and assignments you'll do well. dr. schippert is a great teacher and i would love to take another class with her.
Words cannot express how much this professor sucks. Her class is excrutiatingly boring, she takes her own opinion as fact, and she's just generally rude to students.
People who don't like her obviously either sleep through class or hate those who examine religions instead of accepting them as fact. Dr. Schippert can be hard to read at times, but is very knowledgable and a good teacher. Not too difficult to get an A. I would take her again.
I have nothing good to say. I have resulted to not talking in her class because whatever I have said so far has been "wrong." She Catholic bashes. I emailed her asking for help because my grades kept coming back low and she never emailed me back. She takes her own opinions as truth. It's been the hardest thing having to sit through her class.
Not bad. Class is very hard in terms of work load. She is a good professor, asks great questions. In class is easy: do reading, show up, participate in discussion, sometimes take quizzes. No tests in the class except final (which has essays and fill in the blanks) and fieldwork.
critical thinking! fair!
I loved Professor Schippert. She can be strict and opinionated, but she's a great professor. If religion or cultural anthropology is not your major, you won't like this class.I did get bored with just constantly having class discussions about the readings, I prefer taking notes. The fieldwork project was awesome and very educational.
Claudia bases grades off of her opinion of the student not the quality of their work which I find to be off-putting indeed; not to mention unethical. Further, if, during the almost constant class discussions, you voice an opinion that is not perfectly in-line with hers you are blacklisted.
This professor was absolutely horrendous. If you are taking more than 2 courses total in a semester, I would not even try to take this class. The work load is practically a weekly research paper in addition to heavy reading. Not the most sensible class for students who intend to graduate in a timely manner or with a respectable GPA
worst teacher ever. The work load is insane. so hard to get a good grade. there is a paper every week and she grades them horibly. she is awful i read previous posts but took her anyways and i completely regret it. i will probably not even pass. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is not a good teacher. Her lectures are way too in depth that go way beyond anything you need to know. about 4 pages of types notes PER class. Way too much material to expect anyone who isnt a religion major to retain. Do NOT take if you can avoid her!
This is the first time I feel I have to warn students about a professor. I have taken sooo many classes abroad and in the states and this is the most boring class I ever had. I was curious about religion, i wish i hadnt. Her lectures are boring, her videos suck and her tests are very hard. Not a good idea if u need to take a gen ed to graduate
I took this class for summer. I don't know if she teaches differently in the fall, but we absolutely NO homework or assignments. This may sound good, but when you only have 4 hard tests for grades, its not so great. I got a C, but I think its my fault for not studying enough. If you just copy her powerpoints and highlight the book, you will be fine
Very boring. If it wasn't for mandatory attendance for her class, there would never be any reason to go. Just read the book and you'll get an A. My first test I studied mainly notes. Don't. Read Read Read!!!
She's interesting. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR AN EASY CLASS!! I can't stress this enough. She's an amazing speaker, and I loved her class, but be prepared to work your ass off. You won't get an A in her class, but you'll come out a better person.
She is very interesting and she knows what she is talking about. Her tests are extremely difficult though. They are multiple choice questions but they are multiple answers so you have to put all the correct answers to get any credit for the question. I always read the chapters and still got c's and d's on the tests.
Very hard class. Do not take this class as a General Ed unless you are into hard, multiple answer exams. four HARD EXAMS, but the class is interesting. I studied my butt off and read the book every page and still got D's on her exams :( Shes a good teacher just horrible test.
Your GPA will drop if you take her. 4 Hard as hell tests. Seriously, the test questions come from out of no where, if you worship the book for hours on end before a test, you MIGHT get a C.
If you're looking for an easy gen ed class DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. The material is very interesting and lectures aren't boring but tests are extremely hard. You must read the book thoroughly and study study study. Don't expect to get an A in this class unless you are a flippin world religions genius.
Reading the textbook is a MUST! The tests are extremely difficult, and you use and iClicker to take role/answer questions every day for a grade so attendance is mandatory. Not a good teacher to take unless you are becoming some kind of World Religions Major. She expects everyone to be as interested in it as she is. Decent teacher, tests are just to
Very interesting class I liked it alot. Her lectures were very well planned and kept you interested. No homework xcept to read(BUY THE BOOK)there were daily clicker questions that counted towards a participation grade. Tests were challenging, as long as you reread the chapters the day before the test youll be fine. Finished with a B. Awsome teacher
Dr. Schippert is the quintessential college professor: well-spoken, brilliant, and challenging.I took her for both queer theory and religion in America, and she made both courses engaging in their own ways.
no homework, 4 test with a weird multiple choice format. i dont know why she does it like that. i had to study a lot to pull of a B in the class. Do not recommend at all but it is interesting.
I mean, she had questions that were ambiguous and strange... I had to do a LOT of reading for this class- she never even tried to emphasize what was important for tests. Honestly, it was a hard class. Not difficult to understand, but a lot to memorize.
GPA killer. The notes provided don't do much, and you need to do research outside of the textbook. She provides some items to review, but a lot of stuff that's on the tests are never mentioned. If you're psychic and can predict what to study, you'll probably do very well.
Save your tuition. The classes are typically very difficult and the work is primarily done on your own time. The material seems interesting and sounds fun to study, but do your best to look somewhere else. Also the multiple choice questions all may have more than one answer, so the tests becomes harder by that simple factor.
Really hard to pass. The tests are multiple choice but any of them can have multiple answers and there is no partial credit. She does not emphasize what you should know and the tests cover a wide variety of material. I would not suggest taking this class.
I do not recommend this class. I know it's been said that students should study for 3 hours for every one hour spent in class , but I've never had to follow it to a T. If you love going to class, reading every hour of the day, breathing and sleeping world religions--this is the class for you!
All other comments about the class being very hard are correct. The tests are very challenging and you must read and memorize A LOT OF MATERIAL! I would stay away from this class. Even if it seems interesting.
She's a great professor who really knows her stuff. You can tell she has a lot of experiance in her field. If you take notes and read the book its an easy A. She explains everything very well. Tests are a little tricky, but other than that its an easy class. No homework. Take if you really want to learn about religion.
I usually don't worry about general ed classes and work pretty hard at them. But this class was crazy. Read the book detail for detail and listen to every single thing she says and maybe you'll pull a B? She doesn't explain what is on her tests at all and her multiple choice format is impossible. I wouldn't take this class ever again.
All she has for grades are 4 tests and 20 points for attendance. If you flunk one or two tests, you're screwed. I am not a good test taker so needless to say i did not do so well in this class. I would not recommend her only because the tests are misleading and tricky (with multiple correct answers). I spent the whole class second guessing myself.
Extremely textbook heavy as the majority of the info. on the 4 tests (no other graded material in the course) is from there and not the lectures. However, she does have some questions with direct info. from the lecture. (e.g. what color clothes was the man wearing in the video we saw?)
Overall the class is difficult but if you work hard and study you will learn a lot and do well.
Attendance for this class wasn't really required, but reading the textbook is a MUST. Her tests are fairly short, but extremely tricky sometimes, which always lead to me second guessing myself. But this class is interesting.
I found this class fairly difficult until I discovered that the textbook was KEY. I read the textbook for one exam and passed it unlike the others. She is a very knowledgable teacher and can be pretty funny. Read the textbook and you'll be fine.
Do not take the online class. You have to finish all the quizzes before you can even open the discussion. The last quiz is due a day before the discussion is due, so if you want to study and wait until the due date to take the quiz, she will take points of the DISCUSSION for not doing the discussion early. Very hard for Gen Ed.
Wish I never set foot in this class with this prof, not helpful at all. She makes this class harder than it should be. Quizzes timed 20Q for 10pts only. Locked questions after each answers cannot go back to chk answers. ur grades keep going up and down. Essays never good enough.
Seriously even if the book is helpful u'll still need a miracle to get a high grade in this course. If u follow the rubric the way she wants & try ur best, she still finds way to deduct points from u. No use of trying to ask for help cause u'll not receive it. I don't think she knows this is our GPA she's messing with. Who made MAD!
Horrible professor. Takes months to grade assignments. Doesn't reply to emails. Changed the weight of each assignment at the end of the semester so that it lowered your grade causing me to end up with an 89.4 and received a B. DO NOT TAKE HER.
You can tell that she loves the topic. If you read the chapters and sort of pay attention in class you will pass. Though her final was messed up because it had questions that were on the study guide but she never even touched on in class.
Book is key. Tests are near impossible if you don't read. She is very knowledgeable in her background and her lectures are involved and interesting. If you're slow at taking notes, get them from others or type because she sometimes moves very quickly. She's the perfect example of what I expected professors to be like and what they should be.
If you read the book before the tests and remember key points and dates you'll be fine. I loved the class I found it fascinating. I don't know why Dr. Schippert got low ratings she's passionate and very interesting to listen to.
Try to read the chapter beforehand so that you can participate in her class discussions, PARTICIPATE IN HER CLASS DISCUSSIONS, do all of the online quizzes, and remember, USE YOUR COMMON SENSE on her tests and exams *hint*. She's a nice professor and you can tell she's passionate in her field.
Dr. Schippert is a professor I respect, however, she gives more work than she can grade. It's impossible to know your standing in most of her classes. Over emphasizes the same problem in your work to a point where it is just too frustrating to care, especially when you know you won't be able to address that during that semesters length.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She was able to take a subject that I was very interested in, and made me hate it. There's no point in going to class because they exams are straight from the book. She just reads a powerpoint word for word in class and none of it ends up being on the test. Taking this class will be your biggest mistake you will make.
Taking this class will ensure that your GPA will drop. She is awful. Worst professor I have ever had. Get ready to read the textbook work for word (the entire textbook) because that's the only way to even get a relatively decent grade in that class. I did the best out of all my friends in that class and still never got higher than a C on any test.
If you come to class and read the textbook and other assigned material you should do just fine on the tests. The lectures are actually interesting and sometimes funny. Prof has high standards.
Schippert is an amazing (and funny) inspiration and shows the passion that teaching should have! In order to pass: read the book, watch her video links, show up to the lectures and write down EVERYTHING that she has on her slides. After the tests, highlight in your notes what you remember because those same questions (and quizzes) are on finals(
It's professors like this that make me question the direction of modern academia.
She is not good. I would not take this again.
The most unorganized class I've ever experienced. Quizzes on the assigned chapters are held a week before she even begins to talk about it in class, so there really is no point in going to class since she is always a week behind on HER OWN curriculum. You couldn't pay me to take another one of her classes again.
great prof. wants students to be prepared for class and helps them learn. but you have to do the work, then it is really interesting.
Easy and breezy! Good professor to take for Humanities if the rest of your classes are hard.
Only grades by attendance, 2 fieldworks, and tests. The class is a breeze if you go and just listen to what she has to talk about. If you don't go you won't do well at tests and she also doesn't roundup grades.
Attendance technically isn't mandatory but she might grade you on something in class and if you miss you get a zero so its a gamble. You can't use electronics during class so its boring and hard to stay awake. The tests are dumb easy if u listened during lecture and the online quizzes are easy to cheat on.
Schippert seemed pretty rough at first, but got much better as the course goes on. Assignments are very easy and not time-consuming at all. No book or attendance required, but show up to lectures as the information she discusses will be on her quizzes and tests.
She seems very tough at first, but she loosens up. As long as you do the assignments and dont bug her youll most likely receive an A. I would recommend going to lectures because her midterm and assignments are based off that and course readings usually
She is a decent professor. Some of her lectures she talked about how beautiful big butts were and the definition of freaks, no joke. I was very uncomfortable by this. I would just skip these days. There are two group projects which are annoying but not hard. It is an easy GEP class. Midterm was very easy.
No textbook. She posts whatever content she's going to be discussing in her web-courses. You could probably get a B without ever going to a lecture, but I recommend going, they can be interesting. And it's a free A if you do. Not personally interested in cultural studies, but if that's a route you're pursuing then I don't think she's a bad choice.
Interesting class. Prof cares that students learn critical thinking and has fun material in class - no textbook. Some content might be controversial to some but get over it. Prof treats people like adults. If you show up and listen you will get an A
her class is very simple, hard to get lower than a B. she doesn't like if you use your computer for notes, so bring some paper and a pencil. her lectures are amazing and you will enjoy her class. be prepared to read the material before class and sometimes it can be lengthy. amazing professor and simple class.
Few quizzes and discussions. I only took this class for the GEP and I registered the day of orientation and saw that she wasn't so bad. There was barely any work and no exams at all. The only problem I had was that a lot of "loud-mouths" like to defend themselves during discussions but other than that the class is an easy-A.
Good class to take online. You have to read a bit, but most the reading is pretty interesting. Not too many assignments, the biggest thing is quizzes and they are super short.
Easy A. There was quite a bit to read but it was all fairly interesting and doable. Quizzes were taken right from the information she provided and there were weekly discussions about the modules. Great class to take online
As I took it online the mandatory discussions that were a significant part of our grades weren't too engaging but it's understandable. The material was enjoyable as it will probably open you up to a lot of things you may've never spent much time thinking about before. Overall, it was fun and easy.
Dr. Schippert is so sweet, and her class is very informative. Get ready to read at times, unbearably jargon-y texts but the quizzes are easy, and she has reached out multiple times to give me good feedback throughout the semester. An easy A if you're willing to do the reading and participate in the discussion posts, which aren't that demanding!
Great professor and class. Easy material to comprehend and grades really easily.
Awesome teacher! Class is so simple, quizzes are low in points. Class is mostly based off of opinionated discussions. Please if you are deciding upon this class and a teacher, take it with Claudia!!!
Super easy. Quizzes are only a few points, but there is quite a lot of them. Most of the grade is through discussions based on the readings and opinions. The class has interesting topics which made the work easier to do.
So, this class is HELLA READING. Be ready to read texts that can wind up tedious, even though the topics is otherwise very interesting, due to the length+vocab. If you can handle that though I highly recommend this prof and class. Prof is very kind and accessible. Most assignments are discussion posts about your opinion of the texts + easy quizzes.
Great professor, caring and responds quickly to questions. Lots of (easy) discussion posts and quizzes for each reading, but some weeks had A LOT of content in the reading. I don't like reading, but it was easy enough; the topics were interesting. The fieldwork report was easy too.
Although there was a lot of reading, you could just skim the text. Thats what I did. Also quizzes and discussion posts were very easy, just make sure to reflect for a long time. Super easy class though, got a 99
I really enjoyed Dr. Schippert's class! HUM2020 was very organized, which is always appreciated! The course is not difficult and was actually really interesting. Overall, this course is an easy A if you take the time to read, consider the information, and participate in discussions. I HIGHLY recommend this course if you need a humanities class.
Tons of reading to do, but fairly easy class. Every week do the reading, post in the discussion board, reply to people, do the quiz. The quizzes/final are the easiest things in the world, you'd have to try to fail them. Some questions would be like "who was the author of this week's reading". Assignments are graded on effort rather than content.
Dr. Schippert has different times for things that are due - sometimes in the middle of the day and sometimes at midnight and it got confusing. Also, if you answered a question and she thought you didn't spend enough time on it you got points taken off...even if the question required the simplest of answers. I found her incredibly frustrating.
Incredibly boring lectures and attendance was mandatory until UCF here bugged out. Very little work besides a project, assignments that you have to do multiple times throughout the week to get full credit. Not hard, just very boring.
I took this course online to satisfy the GEP and it was a great course to take. The assignments were straight forward and consisted of a discussion and a quiz each week. Overall very light course to take and satisfies the GEP requirement.
Class was fun and entertaining, attending helps you retain information. I didn't even read or take notes and got a 98. Try on the discussion posts & reflections, they are kind of opinion based, but if ur answers make sense and are supported you'll get 100. There are 5 point quizzes every week but they are pretty straightforward, usually got 5/5.
Show up to class and enjoy the lectures. Professor Schippert did a great job in giving students the resources and allowing them to form their own opinion about topics that are entangled in current events. It was about 4 modules, with a discussion post+2 responses each time, with a quiz every week. Highly recommend this as a GEP
Show up to class and get everything done on time and you will be fine. Pretty interesting lectures and definitely some humor!
