If you want to learn real world marketingadvertising this class is ESSENTIAL. Honestly, the best class I've ever taken. Yes, there is a big group project - but you get to work with a real client developing real creatives that get used! Claudia brings to the classroom real life knowledge. The main project perfectly replicates what advertising agencies ACTUALLY DO! Would take this class another 10,000 times. I thoroughly enjoyed taking this class with Claudia. She is a clear speaker who expects the best for her students. The class is one giant group assignment, but it is incredibly applicable to real life. You'll walk out of there with a portfolio and strong understanding of what Marketing Communications is. Add to group discussions and you're golden.

Claudia is great. The group project you work on throughout the term is truly one of the most helpful and useful projects you will do in your degree. She gave awesome feedback on the progress of your project to keep you on track, and gave a very fair midterm (and no final exam!). I definitely would take the course again.

The focus of this course is the group final project (which is difficult). You will be assigned a business that is run by an alumni or aims to do some social good, and you do their marketing for free. Do the research right the first time, thats the hard part. If you do a good job the look on their face will be priceless, and you get to feel proud.

Most useful and most interesting class I ever took. Prepares you very well for working atwith an ad agency. The class is basically one project which is a lot of work but you have the whole semester to work on it and Claudia is super helpful. Very rewarding and totally worth it. Anyone who is considering a career in marketing should take it.

Claudia is a great professor, if not one of the best professor Uvic has. She has so much knowledge and is very up to date with everything happening in the real world in regards to marketing communication. In the course there is a real life client group project that is very hands on, bit challenging but extremely effective way of learning

I dont usual post about my profs but Claudia is the most influential teacher I have ever had. Before her class I wasnt sure whether I wanted to pursue marketing. ENT 100 was one of the most fun and easiest classes I took this semester. Highly recommend if you're looking for an easy A with some creative aspects. No tests, no quizzes or finals and no textbooks either.

Claudia as well as this course have made the single most significant impact on me to pursue my own business. ENT 100 is inspiring, a mix of guest speakers which comprise of heavy hitters like Jeff Mallett (worth $8billion, past founder of yahoo) as well as small business owners that are all local. An amazing opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Claudia was great, flexible with due dates if need be, no textbook, brought in CEO's and local business owners to tell their stories and answer questions (great way to make connections), she understood and cared about how everyone was doing in her class. You take away what you need and want to enhance your ability as an entrepreneur in this class.

Ent 100 is a great class; It was what I wanted when I took Com 100, but this class is far superior. Claudia does a great job at inspiring success by giving great advice and bringing in lots of successful entrepreneurs (some of which are VERY rich). The class is definitely on the easier side; no book, no final, but some of the projects are tedious.

COM 495 was the most influential class of my degree. It's the only class I walked away with work that was worth something to myself and future employers. It was invaluable and the course load isn't too heavy if you balance it. Claudia is a great professor who makes herself available for students and is very fair in all aspects. Highly recommend!

This course has been the most useful course I have taken, albeit one of the hardest ones. The final project is something that you can use to impress future employers which is great. Do not take if you're not willing to put in some serious effort.

Professor Smith was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the material she was teaching, her strong connections and reputation in the entrepreneurial community allowed for some phenomenal guest lecturers. Claudia is passionate about Ent. and her students. The grading is purposefully ambiguous to make you think creatively, but she is always willing to clarify in and outside class. Ent100 is about developing your entrepreneurial mindset, not memorization and regurgitation. Don't be scared away by entrepreneurially savvy classmates,you will learn tons!

The first two years of my degree mainly comprised of easy/boring electives so let me tell you, although there is a lot of work, ENT100 was the best class I have ever taken. Claudia Smith brings in over a dozen inspirational and highly successful entrepreneurs making the course relevant, engaging, and extremely interesting. Absolutely loved it!!!

She is great at teaching concepts visually and is kind and compassionate (without a note I got an extension on an assignment because of family trouble). I have seen some of the same guest lecturers in other classes, they do the usual I'm great rant. I believe her high emotional intelligence prevents this. It was night and day seeing the same guest.

Claudia is passionate about marketing, and has TONS of knowledge & experience in the field. I would highly suggest taking her course (specifically COM 495) as it is such a fulfilling, educational experience, and you will walk out completing this course having learned skills that you will ACTUALLY use & that will make you stand out in your career.

I definitely recommend registering in COM 495 with Claudia! Our class was required to complete a marketing communications plan over the term, which was a very rewarding experience. Claudia provided guidance and in-depth feedback as we completed this assignment. This prepared me to write the midterm (which was a very fair test).

This was by far one of the most useful business classes I have ever taken during my 4 year degree. Not only did Claudia skillfully manage to teach us almost everything about Marketing Communications, but she also made us apply that knowledge in a greatly beneficial way to give back to our local business community. Claudia is committed to the success of the students in her course and puts a lot of work to ensure her students learn. Although the final project is big, I learned and retained the course content through the process more than I would have ever with a multiple choice test. This is one of the most practical courses you can take in your undergrad.

Although her criteria sheets are vague and ambiguous, Claudia really cares about her students. She is readily available to have discussions, give feedback and help outside the classroom. She makes her lectures interesting and lively.

Claudia brings entrepreneurs to the class. We had the chance to meet very interesting people. The grading is very structured and clear and you know what to expect. As an exchange student it might be a repetition as the content is basic but the guest speakers compensate that. Many first years and that can be tough in group projects. We had no exam.

Claudia is a fantastic prof with a lot of respectable experience. She is eager to share her knowledge and regularly checks in to ensure the course content is useful to students. I learned a lot from this class, and even though I don't want to be an entrepreneur, I've learned lots. There are many guest speakers in class which was interesting. Keep notes on the guest speakers and the readings to give you a big advantage for the final project.

Taking ENT 100 was tremendously valuable as the course content can be applied in so many ways and allows for a lot of creativity. Take her class if u want to get a easy 80-85% grade, but not if youre looking for anything above a 90, as she does not give them out. I personally didn't really enjoy the class, but I could say that about any online class atm.

Dr. Smith is one of the best professors you could ask for. Claudia is by far the best professor I have had in my 2 years at UVic so far. She in one of the most hands-on professors and is so passionate about what she is teaching. For being a first year class, that is not mandatory for bcom majors, it is the best class to get a sense of what business will be like and Claudia is the best person to teach it.

Class is designed for students to interact through group projects which were actually quite fun+engaging. Great guest speakers and enjoyable assignments.
