Dr. Ferrell is the most carefree and unprofessional professor I have ever taken. She only provides minimal info during class on how to complete assignments and saves the rest for numerous out of class meetings. She is rarely accessible outside class and vague with her answers to any of your questions. Considers a C- a good grade.

If you want to fail out of your major take this class. My biggest mistake in my academic career was trying to take 297 with this professor because we have to take 298 with her this is my biggest regret not only in my college career but possibly my life. Unfortunately she is the department chair and nothing can be done about her completely awful!!!

I took her 298 and nearly failed. Thought she was incredibly mean and unfair! Then she became my 485 advisor. I worked with her and learned that she's a GREAT professor as long as you communicate. Her door is always open for help- which is good because her classes are hard. If you GENUINELY put in the work, you will be rewarded!

If you ever wanted to have a class where the worlds most incompetent second grade teacher rambles about herself and grades at random, take a course with the good doc. Inane meetings that serve no purpose as any feedback is not what shell grade on. If you want to be a history major, I pity you. Well get through this. If not, avoid her.

Genuinely the most frustrating experience that I have had at this university. Feedback was incredibly passive aggressive and not constructive whatsoever. Additionally, students would be belittled if incorrect answers were given in class. The fact that she didn't open course evaluations afterwards says it all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

A fair amount of work, followed with high expectations. Nothing out of the ordinary for a college-level course. A lot of the negative reviews for Dr. Ferrell are seemingly from people unable to take criticism. I found the feedback I received to be very useful, and Dr. Ferrell is very easy to meet with. Great professor.

This class is a 300-level class but treated like a 400-level class. There were a lot of readings which is pretty normal and they were actually pretty helpful for the papers. The grading was like a 400-level class. I never once received an A on an assignment even when I followed all of her feedback. Get ready do be frustrated frequently.

AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS I earned A's in all my other classes but got a C- in this class. Awful at grading & communication—none of my assignments were graded until the last weekend of the term over Christmas break so I had no idea what grade I would end up with. No feedback on assignments & unclear grading. TERRIBLE at responding to emails

The class I took, HIST390, was the best class I took at the university. Discussion-heavy (every class) and paper-heavy. Show up ready to discuss, you're graded on it. Class is Reading HEAVY. Papers (from discussions readings) are graded hard. The class made me SO MUCH of a better writer and student although my final grade was a C. Highly reccomend.

Tough 300-level course with heavy readings. Grading is challenging - even when following feedback, A's are rare. Attendance is mandatory. Unstuck study helped with study prep alongside the textbook. Not the easiest, but manageable with dedication.

If you're not religious, pick a religion and pray. I've never taken a course with such an incompetent professor. I promise you, it's not worth the pain. This took three years off of my lifespan.

Ferrell uses Slack for DMing & posting readings (doesn't use Canvas) but rarely answers msgs on Slack. She is inconsiderate of students' time & frequently cancels/is late to class. She blames students for problems she creates, talks over students then shames us for talking too much, & snaps when students don't say what she expects. Do not take her.

Uses Slack for everything and is upset with students over things she did (ie. not doing readings or assignments because she never actually sent them in the first place). My number one piece of advice to incoming history majors is to NEVER take a Ferrell class. Wait for Fernsebner to teach 299.
