He is really funny and keeps you awake with his jokes. If you listen in class you will do fine on the tests.
This class was pretty simple. I didn't attend too much, studied the notes, and got an A. The tests are directly from the notes, and don't even require understanding, just memorizing.
great professor! He's Italiain and is really funny. His class is interesting and not that hard if you pay attention in class..
tests are easy...straight from the notes, doesn't require you to understand them...just memorize the material.Tests don't cover a lot of material. No papers or outside work. Extra credit for good attendence.
Class is boring. Must go to class for notes. Extra credit for attendance. Tests are not as straight forward as others have commented them to be.
This class is very hard to sit through. A ton of lecture, but the tests are easy if multiple choice is your thing. Funny professor, nice guy, but at 75 minutes this subject is mind-numbing. You won't get an A for nothing.
He's Italian and funny, even if his classes tend to be boring. The occasional off the wall comment helps the time to pass. All lecture and only four tests, but easy opportunity for extra credit if you come to class, boosted my B to an A.
i slept through some of his class. he's italian who somehow relates coffee and sex to our lectures. surprisingly, that helped. gives extra credit for attendance. made a B - barely.

lectures are pretty boring but he's pretty funny. tests are pretty much straight from the notes but they're not super easy either. not too bad of a class
I had to Facebook the whole class to keep from falling asleep... he tries to make class funny, though. His tests are straight from the notes so make sure you go to class. He gives extra credit on your final grade for attendance.
Loved his class. He's really funny, which helped me pay attention. If you go to class and read the notes then the tests are easy. Definitely take him for Physiological Psych!
Tests are straight from notes and diagrams. Just memorize them, you dont even have to understand them. Class is boring but his funny Italian jokes keep you awake.
The coolest psych teacher I've had. The material can be intimidating but he explains it so that it makes sense. He's really enthusiastic about the material and throws in a few weird but hilarious jokes. His Italian-ness is amusing. If you go to class and study what he tells you to study for the tests, there's no reason why you shouldn't get an A.
Good teacher, hilarious in class.. but the material can be tricky! All you can do is study the notes because he doesn't give a study guide or anything to help. The final is cumulative.
Definately the hardest psych class I've taken. If you're not interested in biology, don't take it.. I made a B.. barely. Extra credit for attendance. Don't underestimate the first test, its the hardest!! Go to class, take notes, read the book, and you should get a B..
I hated this class so much. He TRIES to make it interesting, but I just couldn't get into it. Read the book and study your class notes, and you should get an A. If you go to class, he gives extra credit - it's a BIG help! Try to exempt the final if possible, because it's cumulative.
This class is hard, more about the biology behind the scenes than it is behaviors associated with it. I wish I would have known that BEFORE I took the class. He is nice and knows his stuff, but if you are not into science, don't take this class. By far the hardest psych class I have ever taken.
I honestly don't know what everyone was talking about this class being their hardest psych class. As long as you went to class and wrote/typed down what he put up on the powerpoints, you were good to go for the test. He uses a lot of visuals which are a huge help for the exams. Definitely recommend. also, the text isnt needed if you go to class
Definitely not as hard as everyone made it out to be. As long as you went to class and copied the notes from the powerpoints, you were good. Text isnt really needed, since his lectures come straight from the textbook. Recommend downloading visuals he puts up on blackboard and putting them in your notes, they help a ton for the exams.
Best advice for his course: 1) Attend every class to get extra credit. It helps a lot. 2) Study everything in the notes. The notes are basically the exams. Coming on here and reading that people said that the exams were from the notes helped me improve my grade, because I stopped worrying with the book and focused only on the notes.
Hard... Class is all about the brain and is more like a biology class. Thought this class sounded pretty easy from the reviews on here but it's not at all. It's an extremely boring class to sit through. If you go to see what you missed on tests he sits down and goes through every question for a good 5 minutes to try and get you to understand
Honestly one of the hardest classes I've taken at Clemson
The important thing about this class is to make sure you don't just know the definition of things. You really need to know the pictures he posts and the process of how it all works.. not just what it is.
Very funny in class, though it may be on accident. This class is based on a lot of hard science and less behavior. You really need to have everything straight in your mind to do well on the tests. The notes follow the book exactly. Tests are multiple choice with 2 or 3 short answers. You can exempt the final.
Bar none the most frustrating and difficult class I've ever had. He sets you up to fail. The tests are multiple choice, but he makes the questions as hard as he possibly can while assigning a massive amount of challenging material. Lecture is miserable, no study guides, no online tools. If you have any interest in neuro, this class will kill it
Awful. Tests are as hard as he can make them, diagrams show up from nowhere. No study guides, no sense of direction for what to study. Comprehensive final and says you need to know all 200+ pgs we've read. Please just take another prof! You'll regret having Cantalupo, good luck.
Terrible. Told us he was going to replace one test grade with our final and then didn't, difference between a letter grade.
I'm halfway through and it's super hard. I did badly on the first test and met with him to talk about it. We discussed every single question that I missed and he diagnosed why I got them wrong. We concluded that you'll do well if you read and study diagrams without cramming. You also get extra credit for attendance.
Halfway through and it's really hard. I did badly on the first test and met with him after. We discussed each question I missed and he diagnosed why I got each question wrong. His advice: come to class so you get extra credit, read the book, and study the diagrams well.
This was by far my FAV psych class I have taken so far. Anyone who posted below saying it was too hard either didn't take good notes, didn't come to class or didn't study. I copied all of his notes & studied the diagrams he puts on BB & got an A in the class & exempted the final. Exams come straight from the notes.. Literally. DEF recommend him :-)

The tests are hard! He is funny and nice, but not that great at communicating. If you are not good at biology, you will probably have a tough time. Text book is useful for studying but not used in class.
He is a funny professor but the lectures are kind of long. This is a very biology heavy class and grades come from tests only. His tests come from his notes but using the book is good to clarify things and for extra diagrams. Going to his office hours is extremely helpful.
He tries to make a pretty boring course more interesting but it didn't really work. He also tends to go on tangents that sometimes don't relate to the information at hand which is frustrating. Tests are multiple choice but he makes them tricky ( like but false first in truefalse questions). Ability to omit final if you have an A average on tests.
He is kind of rude. Pretty sure he thinks this is the only class we are taking. Only good thing is he gives bonus points for going to class and you have the option to exempt the final if you get an A average on the first three test. Other than that its really hard, and he is not very nice.
I love this class, but I will warn you that it is biology based. I'm a Psychology major going to med school, so this class is very helpful. The teacher is interesting, and you learn about how and why things work. It's great. Also you get extra credit if you come to every class, and there are only three tests. If you study the notes, you'll do well.
Cantalupo is a very up front about what will be on the tests. If he assigns pages to read in the book, then READ THEM ALL. Also, the notes are exactly what is on the test. You get extra credit if you dont miss class (10 pts) He cracks jokes that aren't really funny, but he is nice & I learned a lot. I would definitely take a class with him again.
It is true that this class is biology based, but let me tell you I pretty much suck at biology, and I totally fell in love with this class. Funny guy, will help you to know what you did wrong on the test and make you think about it. You'll have to work for this class but if you get an A you can skip the final. Extra credit for attendance.
Cantalupo is extremely interesting, being in class is essential to knowing what is on his tests. He doesn't post any of his lectures online, therefore you have to have his notes to be prepared. On the other hand he gives extra credit based on how many days in class you're there, so that is a plus. BUT YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS in order to get them.
His teaching skills is good as far as being able to understand where he is getting his information from. He really goes along with textbook. What I will say is that he is very negative , he points out a lot of your mistakes when you ask him for help during his office hours and kind of make you feel like you don't want to ask for help.
If you're a psych minor (like me) look elsewhere for an easy psych credit. Having bio background is a huge plus. GO TO CLASS (attendance is extra credit) & READ the textbook. I ended up doing well, but I worked for it. Cantalupo is a great professor though & for someone that had never previously taken bio in college I learned SO much.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but I recommend that you go. Even though the lectures are pretty much word from word from the book some of the examples he gives are on the test. I took both psych3240 and psych4220 with him at the same time and it made the classes a lot easier since some of the material overlapped.
Sensation and Perception is a very challenging course. Cantalupo was good at explaining concepts, but makes students feel ignorant for asking questions.
Sensation and Perception is very difficult, take pretty much any other available class. The class is essentially all lecture, he does not post notes online. He can be difficult to follow in class and if you miss something thats it, its gone.
This professor will explain things to you if you choose to go to his office hours. Go there with a wanting to learn attitude. He will help you understand concepts if you show you are working at it. Take the time to talk to the professor outside of class, he is actually nice if you show the time to care. Go to class, it is extra credit. Study Text!!
Nice guy but not my favorite professor. He lectures straight from the book and expects you to read for the tests. Lectures are not very interesting or engaging. Does not give a lot of guidance on what test will be on. Attendance counts for bonus points, which is nice.
Overall, he's a very effective professor. He seems tough at first, but don't be intimidated. His lectures go hand and hand with the textbook. You must read in order to do well in this class. However, lectures make the material from textbook easier to understand. He makes it clear of what he expects from you. Gives extra credit based on attendance.
This class is 100% the hardest class I have taken at Clemson, the amount of information you need to know for each of the exams is absurd, the material is so in depth and so hard to understand; and he speeds through lectures at such a fast pace. There is no study guide ever, the MC questions are written in a way to purposefully be impossible.
I took this class the same semester I took anatomy and physiology II which is the hardest class I've ever taken in my life. I made a worse grade in this class. The lectures are confusing power points with few words and class is him rambling on about stuff you don't understand. He also doesn't want you to do well and doesn't give any grace.
Nice enough guy, available during office hours if you have questions. His exams are very hard and you are given little direction on how to study for them outside of "read the book" - if you read what he says the class is difficult but not impossible. would take another class if you are able to
He is not a great teacher, and this class needs a great teacher because it is one of the hardest classes offered in the Psych major at Clemson, if not THE hardest class. The exams are so hard and the questions are written intentionally to confuse you, never any study guides, never any review sessions, this class was intentionally too hard.
Never once did I feel prepared for the tests in this class. I ended up getting a B but I think it was by sheer luck that I remembered the right things. The lectures are confusing, theres no slides and he gives you a ton of reading with 0 direction for the tests. Theres no reviews, no guide just walls of info that you gotta pray you studied right.
The class is hard and there is a lot of material. But his lectures are very thorough, so if you attend class and pay attention you should be fine. He also gives you the exact pages he wants you to look at from the book and puts all the charts and diagrams on canvas for reference. Solid prof, but your only grades in the class are the exams; STUDY!
wouldn't recommend this class. cantalupo is a good professor but the class and content is very difficult. getting an A in this class required hours and hours of reading and studying, much more than any other class. the content is similar to Biology. You have to attend every lecture and study and read before class to keep up. would not recommend !
Claudio means well. I took him for psyc of music. Attendance was not mand., though you got extra credit if you didn't miss. 4 tests for grades, only 3 if you pass the first 3 with A's. Test come straight from slides. Extra credit paper opportunity. Just a little boring but an easy A if you need it. I never went to class and I passed with an A.
There are only 4 exams for this class, and thats it. Also I really bugged me how we were in a 20 person class and he didnt know a single persons name. He really just came in, always late might I add, and lectured us the whole time. I came into his office hours many times to get help and he still never knew my name.
Definitely a hard course, but Dr. Cantalupo was a great professor while teaching online. I had a great time learning the information in his course and he was wonderful to learn from. He may be harder to learn from in person, but his lectures online were GREAT.
He was really great for online lectures. His lectures were straightforward and had everything you needed for exams. There was a required book but I never used it. He's pretty nice and always made sure to let us know that his office hours were available, which was nice considering the pandemic. Would definitely another course with him take again.
I have him online due to COVID and have zero complaints. Syllabus is straight-forward and he goes straight off of that. Asynchronous lectures that are really helpful, and the exam questions all come straight from the lectures. There is a required textbook, but I didn't use it. The material isn't the easiest, but definitely doable with his lectures
100% of your grade is based off of 3 multiple choice tests that almost all have "all of the above" or "none of the above" answer choices for every question. Have to use a webcam to track your eye movement as well. Because the lectures were prerecorded, some of them lasted nearly 2 hours straight. Would only take if you have to.
Easily in my top 5 least favorite classes taken at Clemson. Only 4 tests for grades, which for me isn't normally a problem & I've enjoyed classes graded like this before. But the tests are unnecessarily difficult+ felt like it was made to trick students with "all or none above or only A and B or only A, B and C" questions. Don't take if you can.
I had a very rough semester and Cantalupo was extremely unforgiving with that. Only graded on 4 exams which are pretty difficult. A ton of studying is required outside of class and that didn't even help me that much. Avoid this class at all costs if you can.
Entirely lecture-style. Go to class, take good notes, spend time reviewing notes, text, and diagrams on Canvas, and you will do well. He is passionate about his subject and honestly enhances the experience. Take his class, work hard, and ignore the other reviews.
Was a very humorous, nice teacher and passionate about the subject. However, it is a very difficult class with only 3-4 test being our entire grade. Meaning if you did bad on 1 or 2, your grade will be nearly impossible to bring up. Definitely recommend reading the book, taking great notes, and studying a lot because it is a very hard class.
Show up to class and study a lot to succeed. There’s only 4 tests and the last one is an essay. You don’t have to do the last test if you got an A average on the first 3. He doesn’t give out study guides and the tests are very specific- study the pictures on the slides too. (I studied for about 15 hours for each test.)
Great professor. Lectures mirror the textbook. Test questions are pretty specific but as long as you go to class and take good notes, you're good.
Go to class! I liked him as a professor, class was interesting. Only grades are test grades. Tests are extremely detailed. Start studying early. For tests be sure to memorize definitions, understand charts/graphs, and numbers associated with things. Overall wasn't a bad class and would take again.
He is very nice but his lectures go on tangents. The exam was pretty hard 44 questions and you really needed to know all the material to do well. There are no grades other than 3 exams and a final. He does give extra credit if you only miss 1 lecture. You have to attend lecture for attendance and the test is mostly what he says in lecture.
Grade is based on only 3 tests and the final. His lectures go on tangents and are extremely hard to follow. Attendance is taken for extra credit, but if you miss enough classes he kicks you out of the class. You can only reach him during office hours as he does not respond to any emails. This class was so difficult only because he would not help.
avoid this class at all costs. Your grade is only based on 3 tests and a final with nothing else. His lectures go on tangents and gets boring very fast. Its nearly impossible to get a good grade on his tests and impossible to get ahold of him via email. Although he is very nice guy, he is not a good teacher.
The class was only graded on four tests which made this class super challenging for me. Most of his tests are based directly off the slides so don't fall into the trap I did which was studying quizlets others made in the class they were not helpful. He is passionate about the subject and tries to crack the occasional joke. Uses the whole class time
This class grade is completely based off four tests which are not as easy to get an A on. Intensive studying keeps you from failing, not excelling. Dr. Cantalupo on the other hand is such a pleasant professor. He makes a giant lecture hall interactive and fun. He is a kind man and is always willing to help. I just wish I could get the A!
I am not a psych major, so it is beyond me why I thought this class would be breezy. He is a super funny guy and tries to engage the class. In a 250 person lecture I don't know why he had a paper attendance sheet, but I got extra credit so I can't complain too much. Lots of content to know for the exams. Be prepared to dedicate time in this class.
This class is not hard if you have a science background - that being said, a ton of psych majors in this class who did not have a science background struggled a lot. The material is interesting, but his lectures are extremely dry and boring which makes it ridiculously hard to pay attention in class. Graded by 3 exams + a few extra credit points.
Dr. Cantalupo is a great professor who is clearly very educated on the material he teaches. His class contains no assignments, papers, etc. it is only weighted on exams. The exams are difficult and require studying but they are very manageable. I enjoyed this class and having him as a professor. I would recommend, be prepared to study!
I loved his class, it's hard and a lot of info so you really need to attend lectures and take good notes. If you go, he tells you what diagrams will be on the test and what concepts are important to know. He really cares and wants to be sure everyone understands the material. Exams are usually based on his PowerPoints, so study those over the book.
A very hard class, but he is a great professor. If you take good notes during lectures & study them the exams are manageable. One of the only professors I have had whose lectures actually help me understand the material way better. If you've already taken bio or a class like that then you will be prepared for a lot of what you learn.
Dr. Cantalupo is a decent professor, the content he teaches is just difficult. His lectures are a bit boring, but he often adds in jokes or examples to try to keep everyone engaged. Your overall grade is based solely on exams and a few extra points from attendance. I would recommend taking this course, just be prepared to study and take good notes.
Doctor Cantalupo is an extremely knowledgable professor and clearly cares about what he's teaching. However, he is extremely old school and is very lecture heavy and uses written tests with scantrons. It is nearly impossible to study for his exams and there are so very few and it feels like he's almost setting you up to do poorly.
This class does require work, but it is doable. I was not able to pay attention in class because he does ramble a lot. However, if you look over the slides and then have questions about it, look over the textbook and it will explain it pretty well. genuinely cares about his students and if you join office hours, he will help you to understand.
Your grade is based on 3 exams. Do yourself a favor, do not take this class.
Your class grade consists of 4 exams and that's it. Most people struggle with the material, but if you have taken bio or anatomy, you'll be fine. He rambles alot and I usually don't take notes during his lectures because I don't know what to take notes on atp. Very kind and he wants you to learn, loves when you show interest/show you're listening!
graded on 3 multiple choice exams (35-40 questions each), a final (can exempt if u have an A), 20 points worth of extra credit (2-3 page paper for each), lectures between 1-2 hours each, can get by without the textbook, exams taken online on lockdown and pretty straightforward as long as u study the info, not super interesting but not too difficult
There were only three exams and one final essay. There weren't any other assignments so the exams were basically the only grade you got. Sometimes the lecture videos went wayyy beyond the amount of time a normal lecture is. It's doable but difficult, good luck with this!
I was not a fan of his long lectures and specificity of facts on exams. I went to every class but had to try and actively take good notes because his lectures were so monotone. I got a 100 on every exam and was able to exempt the final, so it wasn't too difficult, just more of a nuisance class.
Grades are based on 4 exams, the final is cumulative. Lectures were long and super monotone. No study guides the only thing he'll tell you to go over is the textbook and the PowerPoints he's presented in class which are usually pictures and drawings. Attended every class, studied, still had to take the final. Nice professor, but get ready to work.
I mean if you want to suffer then yea take this class!!!
Professor Cantalupo is a great professor. His class is heavily lecture based, so try to not miss class. He does upload all of his slides and the exams are directly based, sometimes word for word, off them. He does have a textbook but you only have to get it for supplemental reading if you want. Study the slides and go to class and you will do good.
I thought he was very funny at times during the lectures, but other than that, I found the class to be very long and boring. There are only 4 exams and they are worth your entire grade. I found it difficult to study for his exams. He does offer extra credit for attendance (up to 10 pts if you miss only 1 class), but oh my this class was hard.
