At first, it seems as though you have a lot of work; but the work leads to better writing and understanding of the material. Great class discussions follow the readings. All viewpoints are listened to. Love this class!
Great teacher. Took him for enc1101 and 1102. He grades your rough draft of essay and tells you exactly what you need to fix and lets you revise essays at the end of the semester. TAKE HIS CLASS IF POSSIBLE.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this professor. He will make your class time interesting and fun. You will learn a lot about academic writing. You will participate in some of the most interesting discussions. For English, it is a fairly easy class. If you apply yourself, you will get an A... if you try and just get by, you'll still learn a lot, but good luck!
Very hard on grading scale! Doesn't let u slide on anything and don't say a word or you will get marked down some points! If your not a literature freak avoid this one!!
The class is a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Professor Arnold is excited about literature and it shows. Take him if you want to learn but not if you want an easy A.
Very clear teacher. There is alot of busy work, but you learn how to write technical documents correctly. 1/2 of the class is you by yourself ant the other 1/2 is in a group. Easy class! Great professor!
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is stubborn on the grading. He is gives the grades only to his favorite students.PLEASE DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Don't take this class with this teacher if you are a person that works ahead. This teacher is good but slow about getting your drafts back to you to revise!
He spends an enormous amount of time explaining how he grades and what he expects more than teaching the course itself. Very boring and hard to follow most of the time. We are a few weeks into the semester and I can't honestly say that I have learned anything. I would not recommend this professor if you are looking to learn something.
Very impressed by his knowledge on literature. Definitely not an easy class, but you will get something out of it if your not lazy....
Very poor about getting grades back to you. Very intelligent, and has high standards with grading, but plays favorites and isn't clear about what he's looking for.
those with negative comments are clearly lazy. coming from an extremely lazy person who has always struggled with writing, I've learned more from him than any other english teacher ever and i have an A- right now without much effort. if you pay attention to his advice on essays, you will truly benefit from this class. recommended!
Loved this class! I actually looked forward to coming to his class. He made discussions interesting and engaging. He also has a tremendous amount of knowledge on literature and is very willing to help you if you need it. Only thing I didn't like was that he's very slow about getting papers back to you but other than that he's great!
Best class ever...if you don't do good in this class, you won't do good on any English class!!!
He is an awesome teacher. I took him for ENC1101 also and made an A. I literally feared taking ENC1101, but he taught me more than any other English teacher I have ever had. Read the assignments, that is bout the only homework. Hand full of quizzes and test, but easy and you write your prospective. Easy Class! HE IS GREAT, YOU MUST TAKE HIM!
Great teacher, but he grades essays really hard. English and science are usually my best subjects and I got my first c in college. Pay attention to the comments he gives you in your essays, go to EVERY class, make sure you do all the essay revisions.
Awesome professor. He picks interesting stories from the book to read (which you must do to succeed in this class.) He's big on classroom discussions, which make the class go by fast. He's got a passion for teaching. The only knock on him I can think of is that he is dreadfully slow at grading work. Sometime that works in your favor though,
the only reason im writing this is to make sure you take this class. i couldnt imagine a better or easier professor
Good class... However, he does a lot of things that sometimes make no sence. I recomend him if you have an adequate notion of general american culture. His class is helpfull and Interactive, but the things he does sometimes are a lot!!. It's Good Class to take in Summer without another difficult course. Not recommended for International Students.
Really cool teacher. Understanding and very helpful. Attendance not mandatory but if you miss a lot can result in failing grade. Easy topics no book work. Highly recommended
I took him for TechComm. The class is not that bad. The work is not hard work by any means. A group presentation/proposal due at the end, but was given a lot of time to work on it and was a fun assignment. Does take forever to return work though. I'm expecting an A
Clay is one of the best English professors I have ever had. Class was fun, there were no notes, just discussions based on interesting articles from the book. Essays are due online and he gives you a few chances to submit them as he makes revisions. The essay topics are fairly easy to write about. He is hilarious and I totally recommend him!
The class is not hard by any means, and you will actually learn a lot about writing. You are allowed to submit three drafts of your essays and he'll always give you useful, constructive feedback. Class is fun; discussions are engaging. You don't need to study very much, but you should always do the reading. He obviously enjoys what he does.
You will definitely need both textbooks for class. The course was easy to get through. It was actually boring at times I thought unless we were doing things. Mr. Arnold was a good teacher I understood everything and the class was engaging. He always put us in group activities which is a good way to meet each other. I do recommend this teacher.
This was not an easy class. You will need your book as well as the Bedford handbook. He is very knowledgeable about literature. He makes you think about what you are reading from a deeper perspective. I enjoyed this class. However, there is a lot of writing in this class. Not an easy A. Work hard and you will get one!
Really nice guy, super funny and a delight to discuss things with. Essays count for A LOT in the class, but he's rather laid back and cares more about discussion and what you understand more than anything!
Not only a good teacher, but also a really nice guy. Very laid back and always willing to work with you if you need help. Often breaks the class into groups for in-class work. Any work done outside class is turned in online.
Really nice guy. Flexible about letting you turn in an assignment late if you truly have a valid reason (and you don't make a habit of it.) Discussion questions in class can be a bit vague; he's usually not looking for a specific answer, just trying to get people to think.
Nice guy. He wants his students to engage in conversation about class material. Need both a Literature book and the Bedford. However, he is a picky grader on essays and essays are worth a LOT.
Professor Arnold is a great English teacher. He's funny, passionate and knowledgeable. The class itself was easy to pass... if English is your first language. If not, you will find yourself putting more work into than everyone else. But overall, easy A.
Mr. Arnold was fantastic! He explains everything in great detail and his assignments are straight to the point. He grades in a way that helps you better yourself as a writer without making you feel dumb for making mistakes. Attendance matters to him and being on time is important but if you show up and do the work you'll get an easy A.
Extremely cynical. Very complicated assignments that involve an extraordinary amount of work k. Offended by 75% of the students in my class. I would never choose him again for any other course.
Very good professor. Go to his office, you will get more out of it!!! He wants to teach those who want to learn.
Professor Arnold was a great teacher, his papers were pretty clear cut and very fair. We would often go into groups and discuss material which I enjoyed and found helpful. If you need additional help, just go to his office hours and you will do fine! Also I found him kind of funny, which made the class entertaining.
I think he is one of the only professors that actually takes his time to tell you what exactly you are doing wrong on your paper so you could do better next time. I have not been bored at all in his lectures and did not mind the class. I am not a English major what so ever but he made the class good. Make sure you read, he gives quizzes.

Awesome professor. He's all about self discovery. Has a passion for writing and literature, and loves to help individually.
He gives four paper but they are not tat long and you have a chance to go back and fix things after he has commented for a better grade. Come to class and do the work and you will be fine. You do have t put in effort but he does his best to make it fun.
Professor Arnold was one of my favorite professors this year. He gives short, easy to understand lectures each class and then you work on in-class assignments or your homework. Make sure you keep up with the weekly discussion. Somewhat of an easy grader and always offers office hours. I would take him again.
Improves your writing, you learn new things, lots of work but gives you chances to redeem yourself and get better grades.
Clay Arnold is an amazing professor. I was hesitant to take an english hybrid class but it was the best decision I ever made. He is so easy going and very understanding, he will do anything to help you. If you want a laid-back, easy-going tech communications class you should definitely take Professor Clay Arnold.
Absolutely LOVED Professor Arnold! He gives amazing lectures and is so passionate about his subject. He is very clear in his instructions and always willing to help you with your work. I highly recommend him to anyone who isn't afraid to write a few essays. Make sure to show up for class and complete assignments on time and you will pass.
Clay is very helpful with any question. There were no tests, only a final. Turn in your online assignments and it's an easy A.
Professor Arnold's class was relatively easy and the group projects are enjoyable. There is a lot of online homework and assignments so pay attention to due dates. He is really understanding and will help if you ask for it. There is a textbook associated and while you will need it for assignments I didn't find it necessary to read for class.
Clay is a great professor. I enjoyed him for ENC1102 and just as much for ENC2210. It's a hybrid class so you only meet once a week and have lots of online assignments. Just do the work and you should get an A/B. I'd take him again if I could. You need the book for assignments but reading the chapters wasn't necessary.
I took this as a hybrid course meaning that we only met once a week. All he does is lecture and most of the time it is unnecessary. To me the course seems almost pointless, he goes over things students should've learned in 9-12 grades. He doesn't give much helpful feedback, very repetitive. Definitely cares if you even say one word in class.
Prof. Arnold, is truly the best professor. It is one of the classes you actually learn and it will help you in future. Read the Book before working on an assignment. Go to his office hours and get feedback. Fun class. Easy A if you follow the instructions. WORK AHEAD OF TIME.
You'll be writing a lot of practice essays. Period.
I took his class online and it was supper easy! Only 1-2 discussions per week and I think a total of 5 papers. At the end of the semester he gives you the opportunity to revise a couple of the essays further for extra points. I got an A. As long as you turn everything in on time, you will pass!
Really great professor. I took his hybrid class and he is VERY organized on canvas. Must come to class and turn in assignments. Really great learning experience and gives you a chance to revise essays if you aren't happy with your grade. Lectures don't really seem like much but are very helpful in hindsight. Highly recommend.
Gives you many chances to redeem your grade. Wants you to do well.
I loved having him as my professor! Gives you plenty of opportunity to boost your grade. Honestly just show up to class and you will do well. And the stuff he teaches in Technical Communication you will use outside of the classroom!
Professor Arnold is an amazing professor who is passionate about teaching. He challenges his students, pushing them to do better at writing. Take this course if you are interested in writing/learning about sustainability.
I took this class because I did not want to take ENC1103. He was okay as the beginning of assignments are in class grades. But the way he grades the assignments he makes us peer review and some times I wouldn't even get a peer review. Lack of feedback and did not receive A's on assignments. The whole concept of the class is sustainability.
For me personally, this class was an easy A. He tells you clearly what he wants and is willing to look over your rough drafts in his office hours. He is funny in class and is a very relaxed guy. My one complaint is that he requires everyone to do peer reviews. This is fine but sometimes other students don't review your work correctly.
Hes very funny and cares about his students. He barely assigns hw & he just wants you to do well. Show up to class and your grade wont suffer just be-careful on the essays because they are worth a lot. Do exactly what hes looking for and youll do great !
Loved him as my professor. 3 essays for his Sustainability class, which count for most of grade. But attendance is extra credit and he gives a lot of completion grades. Show up and listen and you'll know what to write on essay. Very easy to get help from if you ask
Clay is a fantastic professor, and honestly a very personable person in general. His class wasn't particularly easy, but the skills that we learned in Tech Comm are directly applicable to professional life. However, if you happen to have a strong aversion to doing research on sustainability, run screaming. Otherwise, take his class.
I was horrified when I first walked in because he seems very serious and strict about grading. In reality he is a pretty nice dude. the 5 Essays he gave us are a pretty big part of the grade, but as long as you show that you put in effort and didn't completely go off the walls in terms of sentence structure and MLA, he should give you a fair grade.
Do not take! All of your rough drafts, even an assignment worth 200 points are terribly peer reviewed. I went to ask him about something specific about my paper, he wouldnt even pull up my paper from his computer, then asked me if this was going to take long because I had three students behind me! Why does he even have office hours?!?
Professor Arnold is very intelligent! Anyone who has him, will not be making a mistake. All you have to do is go to class and do the work , and as a result, YOU GOT AN A! The class consisted of 4 major reports such as job application, informal report, formal report , and proposal. The class is based on sustainability, just a heads up. TAKE HIM!
Class is fine, but the subject can be difficult to understand if you do not pay attention in class. Proof read your drafts and revisions 10 times before submitting to avoid any mediocre grades.
He is very smart, and He might let you make up any quizzes. You can also resubmit any essay with a lower grade; however, I would have taken someone else for ENC1102. All the lectures are related to Monsters and horror stories. If you are not into that type of material, you will feel disconnected. Overall, he is Ok.
I took Sustainability with Clay and can honestly say that this is the best college class I have taken yet. He is very clear when handing out assignments, the readings are manageable, he gives great feedback and is always down to help you out outside of class. I really enjoyed the style of this course and 100% encourage others to take this class!
This class is heavily based on the selections from the book but the book is cheap. It is a lot of reading and discussing but the main grades come from papers. There are a few small homework assignments and a midterm and final. The midterm and final are relatively easy. really enjoyable class!
If you have an understanding of MLA and basic writing skills, theres no question you can pass but the thing that upset me the most is repetition throughout the whole semester. In one of the $100 required textbooks, we read about 3 of the 50-ish articles every. single. class. In the other required textbook, we covered a maximum of 5 pages.
Professor Arnold was one of the best professors I've ever had. It is ideal to read the textbook for his sustainability course, as most class periods are spent discussing what you've read. Occasional homework assignments, 3 essays, midterm, & final- all which are fairly easy and straightforward. His class was very enjoyable and fun.
Mr. Arnold is a great English Professor. Very caring and wants to see his students thrive in class. All you need to do is show up for class and do the work and you will pass. Office hours are open incase you ever need help, and he responds to emails quickly. Easy A. Take his class and it will be the easiest A you will ever receive.
Show up, do assignments , youll pass! No final exam.
THE BEST PROFESSOR YOU CAN EVER TAKE! Clay is so passionate about the subjects he teaches, is extremely organized and gives great feedback. He will help you if you need it, just ask. This class made me change my major, and Clay inspired me to do so! If you get the chance to take this professor, don't miss out!
Do the readings, participate in class discussion, find similarities between the readings (that'll be your midterm), and work hard on the essays, there are 3 a semester. Visit office hours often for help with your assignments, he gives great feedback on writing and can help you understand the readings. Extra credit for showing up consistently.
I'm writing near a decade later. Professor Arnold's inspiration and education is with me today as a screenwriter and story-teller. He is one of the sharpest, most compassionate instructors you will ever meet, and he doesn't just pass you through a class, he equips you with tools and life skills that will put you far and above academic competitors.
Pretty easy class. Essays are on subjects you choose, just a main topic to discuss. Couple of essays, and gives really good feedback on each.
Professor Arnold is amazing, I took his course online this semester and he responds to emails in a timely manor. Only 3 essays you have to write & they are not hard. He really cares about his students. Discussion boards is mainly the homework but they are very simple. Hes amazing and I would take his course again!
I don't typically like English teachers but Clay is awesome! The assigned work teaches you exactly what it should, he prepares you for all papers, and his feedback is helpful. His communication skills are excellent for an online class, which is very important if you have a problem. Very well structured online course. Will be taking him again!
Prof Arnold is an AMAZING prof. He was extremely knowledgeable, chill and available after class. He always prepared you for the papers, and if you are having any trouble, VISIT HIS OFFICE HOURS!! he would read through my drafts and give me advice and point out things to work on. As long as you put in the work you will do well!
You have to write a lot, but it is about really interest things. He give you comments on your draft to get a better grade. It is an easy class, but you have to be on the announcements in case that something change or a new week is open. I really recommend this teacher
Mr. Arnold is AWESOME!!! He provides clear instruction, is always available, and extremely understanding. I would recommend his class to anyone.
Mr. Clay's class was a breeze. He organizes assignments to prepare you for essays. I took a 6-week online course and got a B+ I'm sure a regular-length class would be a piece of cake.
TERRIBLE. Only wanted to talk about covid, every assignment was based off of covid. I don't know of one assignment I did of his that did not involve covid. Most annoying professor ever. VERY LIBERAL. DOES NOT RESPECT ANY OTHER OPINION. UNLESS YOU WANT TO WRITE MULTIPLE ESSAYS ON COVID, DO NOT GO WITH CLAY ARNOLD.
doesnt explain clearly and sometimes is rude
graded papers extremely hard, wanted your peers to revise the essay before him,and even though your peers had good feedback when it came time for him to revise and grade the essay it was like your essay was the worst essay ever. I always had good grades on essays, now my confidence in my essays went down. was also not the best at advice or help.
The professor is pretty laid-back as long as you complete your assignments and adhere to his rubric. However, his lectures can be tedious and lengthy. It's worth noting that he disapproves of mobile phone usage during class.
Not very much clear feedback and lack of instruction on assignment. Was not understanding of injury
He wasn't at all understanding about the injury. In a way, I felt threatened if I didn't tell him what he wanted to hear, and I felt forced to admit to something untrue. He was a tough grader and wasn't welcoming the first few weeks. Attendance is extremely mandatory and will automatically fail if you miss 6+ lectures.
I would not recommend this teacher if you want an A in the class. He is a very tough grader and lacks feedback to help you improve.
While, he did give a lot of essays, he gave students time to prepare for them and gave clear instructions. Professor Arnold always provided a source of lengthy feedback on essay's. I would recommend Professor Arnold.
Professor Arnold is very passionate about sustainability, and it shows through his lectures. Although there is a lot of reading involved in the class, it isn't difficult. He is also available for office hours and will give great feedback about your essay. Overall, show up to class, participate, do your work on time, and seek help if needed.
This class was very enjoyable and easy. All homework grades were completion, the rest were essays with fair grading & outlined expectations. Papers had a page limit but you could put as much into it as you wanted. I left very educated about discourse in sustainability and appreciating the environment an nature writing much more than I did before.
Class was easy, just essay heavy with papers due back to back. He's cool but can be strict, overall great professor but there are definitely better and easier
He was a very good professor, and I left his class very satisfied with everything I learned. If you are interested in taking any course with him, just know that he will challenge you just enough to level up your skills in writing. Hopefully sustainability will return to the curriculum soon, because it's a useful topic he was very passionate about.
Very open to students using his office hours to get help and feedback on work. All of the assignments in his class work together throughout the entire semester and all in some way help you write the next essay. You never have to just write an essay out of thin air, there is always some work you've done to generate thoughts to start out.
I really enjoyed this class. He is pretty straight-foreword about the materials. When you do the work it'd pertains to the next class so.. DO THE WORK. The reading never felt too crazy.
