Lectured so vibrantly it seemed like we were experiencing the history 1st hand.
Way too passionate about his work.
superb prof, veritable fountain of knowledge, emphasis on thinking, not memorizing
Amazing and captivating.
An interesting, organized, knowledgeable, captivating, honest, caring, good man.
Really knows history, really gets into it, great prof is you're on his good side
The best prof i have ever had. Im in my second year and he still picks up the phone to help me if i call. Knows absolutely everything (for phone a friend)

The Wayne Gretzky of profs. The Great One!
only one word can describw him: Great
great prof, really listens, and knows his stuff!
AWESOME
Damn good! Easy to take notes because he repeats that he knows is important WITHOUT EVEN BEING ASKED! He just makes it part of his lecture. Knows his stuff well; passionate-draws you in. Willing to talk with students.
Wow best prof I have ever had! He is extremely knowlegable within the topic of European History. He expects his students to show knowlege on exams, this is easy to do if you go to every class and pay attention.
Wow. History comes alive. Amazing Prof. Learned all of our names in a lecture class of 100. Will do anything for you! Incredible.
Does everything in his power to inspire students to reach their potential.... what as stalin thinking? What was stalin thinking? Excellent professor to take class from however my friend is in 4th year kin classes and only scrounged a 68% in his c
Best. Professor. Ever. That is all I can say.
He is the best prof ever! He expects you to demonstrate what you know on exams so he gives you the questions. Very smart man who takes an interest in his students.
Great teacher. Extremely dedicated, very knowledgeable. Gives exam questions a few days before but you're expected to know a lot. One of the best classes ever. I even forgive him for making me read "The Persian Letters".
He is excited by his work. Remembers names. Very helpful outside of class. Eager to help you understand and do better. Will edit papers before deadline. Fills margins of essays with tips and inspiring words. Note: Do your footnotes properly!!
Gratingly obnoxious, conceited and absolutely convinced of his own cleverness. Dumbs everything down to the point of being ridiculous; totally loses credibility. And he says "flush things out", when he means "flesh things out". Bad
He's a funny prof, but his skills at thinking up examples is pretty poor.
Fantastic prof!! First one who was willing to edit my paper before I handed it in. His reason? "You have every right to get the best mark you can on it" He's one who is there for the students, and that is very cool.
Condescending, egotistical and rarely backs up his statements with facts or examples. Class is easy but insulting.
Excellent professor. Very intelligent, very helpful. Classes are extremely interesting.
He was my favourite prof. Very interesting and interested in his work which makes it easier to sit through. If only all prof's were like him.
One of the smartest men i have ever met. His passion for history is unparalleled. If you have anything bad to say about his lecture style, you havent taken many history courses because he is the best lecturer in the department.
He is by far one of the best profs I have ever had. He has the amazing ability to make anything seem interesting. I'm not so sure about his choice of the Persian Letters, but if he chose it, it must be worthwhile. So if you have the chance take his class its worth it.
Is totally thrown off by questions. Often condescending and assumes that students have no interest in the subject matter.

One of my favorite profs. He's interesting and funny - I actually wanted to go to class. His examples are kinda lacking, but his interest in history is amazing. Awesome Prof.

Great prof, great class. Is will ling to help anyone willing to help themselves and engages in after class discussions. Very good!!!!
Great story-teller. Makes you interested in the history. Plus, he uses analogies from movies like "Man on Fire". Also, gives you ALL the information on his exams; all you have to do is show up.
He's very nice and very helpful. Takes the time to help students after class. I even have his personal phone number. All in all he is my favorite history professor.
To put into perspective how great Clay is, a friend of mine, who was still in grade 12, sat in on one of his lectures. After just that one hour, she became so interested in politics that she went home and started to read the newspaper. You'll get good marks if you write well, seems fair to me.
Best prof in the world! Loved his class, every lecture was actually INTERESTING! This guy really loves history and. His exams were completely fair and I think he's the best.
Remarkable professor, so why is he not teaching this year? Department politics? We want Clay back!!! He is one of the most compassionate and amazing profs ever! Hardly anyone missed his 8:30 classes. We love you Clay! Write to the History department and try to get him back!!!
Overrated and kind of arrogant. Being an easy marker and doing nothing but tell stories doesn't make you a good prof.
Far too convinced of his own omniscience, extraordinarily self-absorbed, and values entertainment value over clear fact. Slack does not equal good.
SOOO GOOD
Great story teller, Has an amoazing understanding of the topic, willing to take time to explain everything clearly even willing to work after class and office hours to help you understand topic in the most minute details if you wish. very energetic, even though he gives exam questions early he expects that much more from your response
Best prof i've ever had, and made me want to major in history. His 8:30 class was always full. Awesome. Simply awesome.
Extremely bright, helpful, and clear. Probably the best lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan. Any course with this professor will not be a mistake.
thinks he's god's gift... not as smart as he thinks he is... i never understood why people make a big deal of him
Want a simple history class, pick a mundane professor; if you want to experience history and apply it to today while broadening the way you analyze people and events, pick Dr. Burlingham. Students love him. Negative ratings strongly resemble comments previously made by antagonistic professors-ignore them. Bring him back on campus.
What an incredible prof! I truly don't understand why he's received negative ratings from former students - he was immensely accomodating when I was ill and unable to attend lectures, and he even went out of his way and came in on a Saturday to sit with me as I wrote my final exam! Extremely enthusiastic and a joy to learn from. Hooray for Clay!
What a gem this prof is!! Not only is he incredibly intellegent and articulate but he actually cares about his students. I have never seen an 8:30 am class so well attended!!!! If you ever have the privilege to take a class from this professor, you won't be disappointed!!!!
just kind of gushes bull*** for an hour. not really the brightest crayon in the box.
Regarding the last rating, Dr. Burlingham has not lectured in one hour segments for over 2 years. Either *someone* isn't attending class or they hold a grudge an awefully long time. As a past student, with my spouse now also taking his class, I have found him concise, knowledgable and compassionate--even to students who are not always deserving.
In regards to that comment before as well. It is obvious you either never attended his class or don't enjoy history very much! I had clay a couple years ago and he is the most knowledgable professor I have ever had in history. He knows specifics about every historical event!!! maybe do more research before you criticize someone in the future!!
I really did love this guy. I just wanted to sit there and listen to his lectures; it was sometimes hard to keep up taking notes. He gives exam questions prior to exams- I liked that. Awesome lecturer.
probably my favorite lecture. he is amazing at connecting concepts. he really just wants you to do well.
Knows the course inside and out. Awesome professor!
A passionate and amazing lecturer, a brilliant man, and a genuinely nice guy. He truly cares about his students and wants them to do well. If you ever get the chance to take a class from him, DO IT. You will not be disappointed, he's easily the best prof in the department.
I really loved Clay. Never met him, cause I took the class online, but I could tell even through online communication that he was gracious, caring, and passionate about history. I will choose my classes next year based on what he's teaching!
I disagreed with the man on many occasions, he has a particular view of history, but he is fair and passionate about his subject.
Fantastic professor. He's really passionate about what he teaches, and he knows it inside and out. He is also an incredibly fair marker, and extremely helpful to boot. Highly recommended.
Passionate, maybe, but that doesn't equate to well-analyzed course content.
Clay was a great prof. He really knows his stuff too. It was always amazing how he'd answer any question off the top of his head with exact stats, dates, names, etc. Definitely worth taking a class, even if you're not into history. After Clay's class, you'll be into history regardless.
Clay is a fantastic prof. Extremely interesting guy who, if you already like history will make you love it. It was nice to have a prof that cared about his students and really tried his best to help them do well. I would even take canadian history if he was teaching it. Take Clay's class!!
You'll never find a more passionate prof. One of the rare profs I actually attend 8:30 classes for. I don't have enough space to explain all the reasons why you should take a class from this guy.
I had Clay Burlingham in my first year of university and I still consider him my favourite professor. His passion for history and his ability to take the class back in time, through his stories, are the reasons why I'm a History Major today. Truly an inspiration! Always willing to help!! Make sure to take good notes in class and you'll be fine! :)
Clay was an awesome prof to have for first year history. He always made class interesting and informative. Just make sure you take good notes.
Magic. Best history prof ever. Attend his lectures, take lots of notes and you will be set. He not only tells you about what happened, but why it happened, and it's really quite interesting. The ONLY reason I am taking HIST 122 is because he is teaching it.
If you ever get a chance to take history from Clay don't hesitate. He is one of the best professors you can have. He will give the most helpful feedback on your work and can score you amazing source material for your essays if you ask. Just remember to take good notes.
Great teacher! Always answers questions, just always take good notes. I never liked history until I took this class.
He is by far the best prof. I've ever seen in my life. Only one thing: analysis is not important in his exams. It's important in his class instead. However, notes are.
Clay is a phenomenal professor. He's incredibly passionate about the subject and explains in such detail that you swear he was there in that time. He's very animated, cracks some jokes but you definitely need to take notes. He gives the questions for the mid term and final but expects you to give a full, clear answer. Easy marks. Great class.
Took an online class with Professor Burlingham and I found him to be very knowledgeable on the subject matter and clear on his expectations. He always responded promptly to emails. Would definitely recommend.
Professor Clay is a gem! Not only is his teaching captivating, he is also very helpful outside of class. His lectures takes you back in time to the moment an historical event is happening. Course includes a midterm, paper and final. He tells you exactly what he wants on his exams. Take lots of notes during his lectures. Don't need textbook.
Professor Burlingham was an amazing prof! He made the class more fun because he was so knowledgable about the topic, and he was very interested by it. If you have a chance, I would strongly reccommend taking a class with him!
I am not a History major so attending Issues in European History with Clay was awesome. I needed this class for an elective and I attended all of his classes. He tells you what is on the exams and drops hints lots. I recommend taking a class with Clay because he makes history soo fun. His notes are pretty good too!
Most amazing class ever. This class really made me want to immerse myself into history forever. Just sit and listen to him tell stories about the past like he was there. Take specific notes about EVERY TINY THING MENTIONED ABOUT THE LIVES OF EVERY PERSON. He likes seeing these in tests. Gives test questions ahead of time. Write out answers b4 test.
Clay, GREAT DUDE! I enjoyed how enthusiastic he was during his lectures. His hair was flying around as he lectured history like a story, explaining in intricate detail. He was really helpful with my writing skills. If you are taking a history class. Take it with Clay.. Straight VET!
Clay is a really good prof that knows his stuff and more importantly knows how to present it clearly. His midterm and exam are totally fair - he'll even tell the class the questions ahead of time. (But then he reasonably expects well thought out, we'll proven answers). All the material comes from his notes. Overall, it's definitely a gpa booster.
I took HIST 115. Clay is great. It was my last semester and I needed to take 3 online classes together with being on work term. Class required some work. Notes are clear so you can save some $ on books. Also, Clay made it crystal clear the overview for exam
Good prof. I loved the class.
This professor has clear expectations and grades accordingly. He is easy to reach if you have questions. Follow the outline, put in the work, do the discussions, and you will get a good mark. Only downfall to the class is it requires roughly $300 worth of textbooks - try to find them second hand if you can.
I have taken two online courses with prof Burlingham and he is amazing! Would definitely recommend HIST 121 & 122. There is a lot of reading but the textbooks aren't boring, and he uses the same two for both classes. He's a fair marker, stay on top of things and you'll get a good grade.
Little to no communication, unclear on what he wanted when it came to essays. He does give the midterm and final exam in advance in the mail tab on blackboard which is great.
Great prof! take history with him and you will love it! just as long as you are ready to write tons of notes and always pay attention during the lectures! he is always ready to help and gives great reasoning behind his marks on your essays! take his class and you will love history!
This professor is clearly passionate about history. His lectures were so vivid I could close my eyes and envision everything he was describing. A true inspiration. I took a second class with him in my last year.
Clay Burlingham is a very interesting professor. You can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are fascinating. Although, he does have a bit of doctor handwriting (hard to read). He gave all the topics that we would be writing about on the exams ahead of time so if you study, it won't be very hard to pass.
