He's knows his stuff, but he doesn't want anyone else to do well in it. I don't think that this summer anyone had an A at the end. Study every day to keep up, and although all teachers suggest that, students know we don't really have to. no xtracredit
Outstanding professor!! I had no interest in this class, but that's changed. I'm signing up for another class with him. He gets you interested in it. He really knows his stuff and is interested in what he does. It's clear he wants you to do good. Take good notes and STUDY them. Take this class! -Tim

Great Teacher. Very Interesting and knows his stuff. One of my favorite teachers I have ever had. Really cares about his students and DOES WANT THEM TO DO WELL. Fun class and awesome experience. Signing up for another with this guy.
He knows what he is doing, he teaches it well, but likes to run test exams. Throughout the entire semester he had no clue about his own exams and we were his test subjects. At the end he winded up a final that killed everyone. Not sure anyone got an A. Good teacher but beware of exam idiocy..
Great Guy! He screams, yells, jumps up and down, making history a fun class. I admit his test are hard, but he makes you want to learn. If your looking for an easy "A" don't take him. If you want to get a "B" and actually learn interesting stuff, then take this guy.. He is awesome. But Hard.
GREATEST HISTORY TEACHER EVER! Grades consist of 3 Tests and 2 "quests". Test are tough. Don't expect an easy "A". He makes you work for it.
Makes history fun.. His tests are almost impossible
Take him for the experience. He is extremely hard, but he's the most entertaining Professor I've ever had. Very energetic and animated. It's jst too bad his tests are nightmares.I wont say that it is impossible to get and A,but it is a miserable trek to get all the notes memorized because of so much material. For your GPA's sake, take him only once
Now..I had Pardue as a teacher and hated History. Well then the next semester, I took Outz for AMER HIS. He is a great teacher. He can teach that is why his test are hard. If you go to class and listen to him/take good notes then you're good to go. No confusing. Tells you like a story ...that continues...then you just remember it. =) YES!!!!
He is really hard but he is a good teacher. I'm going to take him again.
great teacher! he sure knows his stuff. hard on test but make sure you go to every class
GREAT teacher! Very enthusiastic and makes history fun to learn. Tests are hard and there are alot of notes, but if you study hard, you'll do fine. He's very helpful if you don't understand and really wants everyone to do well. I highly recommend taking his classes (if you're not a slacker!)
He is an AWSOME teacher! His tests are VERY hard though. If you are not a serious student then stay away from his class. He knows his stuff and tells it like a story. The stories that he tells you are not soon to forget. VERY energetic for early morning classes! LOVE THE CLASS!!
super hard class! BUT super fun! he's not only humorous, but intellictual! Take his course if you want to be 'hooked' on history, but be rdy to keep up with him!
He is a great teacher! But his test are VERY HARD!!
Awesome teacher! Doesn't just tell you teh stuff you already know. A lot of interesting facts. Test were hard but not impossible. I got an A.
his tests are rediculously hard. Great teacher, but awful tests.
Dr. Ouzts is really funny and crazy and he explains himself very well. He definitely kept me awake during a 9:00 class! His tests are VERY hard though, I studied sooo much for every test. We only had like 5 grades, quests and tests, which means you have to study even more. I got a C.
Best history teacher I've ever had, period. All of these other postings will say his tests are hard, but it's history so of course you have to study. Just study your notes and you will be fine. I did well in the class.
Excellent teacher. Unfortunately it's almost as if you are expected to take this as your sole class for the semester. I am no slacker and I find it almost VERY difficult to do what needs to be done for this class while still working, going to other classes and sleeping. VERY interesting information but an enormous amount of it to take in at once.
AMAZING professor. He once said coming to work was his break from the real world- he teaches like it isn't work at all. Be prepared to take a TON of notes- his tests aren't hard or tricky; you just have to study every single detail of your notes. Doesn't give homeowrk or use a textbook at all.
He is the best teacher I EVER had. LOVE HIM! Wish he taught every subject. I hated history until I took his class; Class is like "story hour." His tests are atrocious, but Clay Ouzts has found his divine calling.
Awesome
He is a great teacher!! he knows his stuff and you can tell that he loves his job too!! the tests are very hard! so study all of your notes, even off the wall information that he gives out. He has a couple of great extra credit opportunities, so go to class EVERY DAY!! and any field trips you should go on them!!
He is awesome! He makes history so interesting by telling detailed stories that make it fun. He stands up on chairs and yells when excited. His tests are tough and you need to study but he is extremely helpful and totally worth the effort. I loved him and am trying to get him for my next History class!
Best Teacher at Gainesville. Yes he is really hard, but he is super nice, really interesting and he cares about his students. I learned a ton in his class and would definately reccomend him to anyone.
Very hard class, but I learned a lot. You need to take very specific notes for his lecture, anything he says is fair game. I did not write down a few things, and he still included them on the tests. Take time to read the George Washington chapter, it will hurt or help your final grade depending on your level of commitment. Take good notes!
His test are challenging but he is an excellent teacher. I have learned more in his class than I have in any other class in college. I know my history now. Ask me anything, seriously.
he is an awesome professor but his tests are challenging only if you don't take good notes. Each test has about 40-50 pages worth of notes but the test is straight out of the notes. i learned a lot more in his class than i ever did in high school.
Tough, but efficient, helpful, and fair.
Best teacher I have ever had. Take good notes. Make flashcards. Study every night. You will do ok.
Another amazing teacher at GSC like Dr.Hamilton. This guy knows and loves his stuff. To make an A you must study, ask questions, take notes like crazy, attend every day and stay awake lol. Not for the lazy student, only take course if you want to be challenged and learn. Only book you need for ancient world history is "Ramsses"
I do not recommend taking this professor, unless you are getting a History major. He may be entertaining, but his expectations way too high and almost unattainable. Not clear at all on assignements. If your major is not History, you may stand a chance if this is the only class you are taking. You will need to devote like 3 hours a day to study.
Simply the greatest history teacher i have ever had. Hard tests, but worth the experience.
Dr. Ouzts is simply an amazing teacher and the best i've had in school EVER. He will make you appriciate history and he makes class fun, which is really hard to do in history. His test are hard, but as long as you keep up with the work, you'll do fine. Its a wonderful calss and he is the best teacher ever. I'd recommend him to everyone, seriously. d
If your not a History major DON'T take him!! His tests are very unfair!! WAY TOO many notes. Goes overboard on tests and notes. Don't take him!!! VERY UNFAIR TEACHER!!!
Wonderful History teacher, by far, My best college professor. You'll actually learn in his class & he makes it REALLY fun. He is NOT an unfair grader; he is very fair. It's worth it to experience his class. It is simply *AMAZING*
Mr. Ouzt is the best history teacher I know. I heard of him in my English class because he taught in the next class room. He is loves what he does; his lecture tests are hard but take good notes, go to study sessions, don't miss a day of class, and DON'T GET LAZY! 15 people failed the 1st lecture test. Half of the class had to drop. He's the best.
Eccentric...teetering on insane, which makes for great storytelling! If you anticipate breezing through his class without attending or studying, drop it now!!! I guarantee you will retain strange details you pickup from the lectures that you probably didn't get in high school. If you love history, take his courses.
Amazing history teacher! He is extremely passionate about history and loves to teach about it. The tests are hard but fair. You must attend class and study but the notes are very interesting. I would recommend him to everyone!
I hated history before this class, but now I love it. I worked 40 hours a week and took 13 credit hours and still got an A, so it is possible. There is no textbook, just 3 historical readings. You have to come to class and take good notes. Studying every detail of his notes is a must. If you are lazy DON"T take the class, you will end up dropping.
Dr. Ouzts is fantastic! Hilarious, helpful, and does his best to help you enjoy history. Do not take his class if you're lazy. His tests are hard because they're detailed. TAKE NOTES! YOU HAVE GOT TO GO TO CLASS. Skipping is academic suicide. Take advantage of his extra credit for attendance. Also, his class has an SI, waay helpful.
He is a hard teacher because he doesn't use a textbook. He gives awesome lectures. He is fun, loud, and interesting. You will find out so much about history that you never knew before.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST PROFESSOR AT GSC, HANDS DOWN! His tests are difficult, but he makes you want to study and learn about History. I wish he could teach me every single class! He's a really great guy, and you can tell he wants you to succeed. He always wanted to know how we (the students) felt about the class. YOU HAVE TO TAKE DR. OUZTS!
ask him to tell you the story about when he was in college and snuck into the girl's dorm! Hilarious!
Ouzts is AMAZING! What a great teacher that is in love with this history and shows it. He does give heavy notes, so be in class. the assignments are 2 large (free response) tests, 3 book tests, and 2 quizzes. You do have to work for your grade, so if you want an easy grade this isnt it. but if you do take him, you'll be glad you did!
Best Teacher I have EVER had. Brilliant man, hilarious...kinda weird at first but he grows on you and he makes class VERY interesting and very fun. Just be prepared...his tests are very difficult. Attend the study sessions and field trip and you will survive.
Dr. Ouzts is the nicest teacher! His lectures are sooo funny and interesting. His tests are hard especially if you don't study for them but he has a S.I. that will answer questions and help you study 24/7. I would definitely take this class if i were you!
Although you may enter his U.S. History class due to core requirements, I guarantee you leave it with a new found passion for American History. There is no professor more interesting and fun. Dr. Ouzts is a true story teller, but make sure to study your notes and never get behind. His tests are tough but fair.
Dr. Ouzts expects a lot out of his students; make sure you take careful notes on his lectures. Unless you're already familiar with the topics covered, I wouldn't recommend much extraneous research. Dr. Ouzts is fantastic, but I would've appreciated what I was learning about a lot more without worrying about memory acrobatics required for the tests.
He gives the hardest tests I have ever had in college, you must study like crazy to pass this class. Though he is an extremely helpful professor and makes class very enjoyable. If you spell something incorrect on the test he will count it wrong and he DOES NOT give word banks, so make sure you know the info for the test.
Dr. Ouzts hs to be the greatest history teacher at GSC. His love for history shines through with every lecture in every class. His class may seem hard, but if you actually study your notes and read the books a minimum of 3 times, then you can make an A in his class. I would highly recommend Dr. Ouzts classes to anyone that hasn't had him at GSC.
Great teacher...very interesting! His class is definitely not boring! Don't expect to ease by. You HAVE to study or you WILL fail!!! Hard course but he makes you enjoy history. Approximately. 20 pages of notes for first lecture test...begin studying at least 2 weeks prior to exam! Overall great teacher but he cuts no slack!
He is a very interesting man! Yes his tests are very challenging, but its worth it. You won't fall asleep in his class its that interesting! Just study very hard and you will not regret it!
Very nice guy, keeps students interested! His stories help you remember & find interest within each subject. His tests are not easy, he really likes details. You cannot blow off his classes, after 5 classes he fails you. All the tests count for a lot, no projects/papers but be ready to put in a lot of time just to pull a B or C, for an A? good luck
interestig guy, VERY enthusiastic about history! However, it was the hardest history class ever! Really hard tests! In order to pass you have to study everyday, literally, and know every little detail! No textbook and had to read terribly boring founding father essays which were the only grades besides the mid-term and final! I ended up dropping
Awesome professor
I love this class so much! His lectures are extremely interesting and funny! You have to write down everything in your notes. His tests are really tough but if you study and go to the study sessions, you'll pass no problem. If you have perfect attendance, you can get +10 points, and there is an extra credit field trip. I love history thanks to him
I LOVE HIS CLASS. He is an AMAZING teacher!! He keeps the whole class laughing. His test are detailed and you HAVE to study. BUT he makes you want to study. Ouzts makes every battle, issue, war entertaining. He also yells alot and plays out situation. Recommend this class to EVERYONE. He makes me want to Minor in History. Best class EVER.
Awesome Professor! Can't be bored in his class! You definitly need the extra credit he offers. His test however are very hard you really have to study and take notes during his lectures.
Great Teacher! Test are hard but if you study what he tells you too you will be ok. I would recommend taking him!!
This is the best class I've ever taken in college. He genuinely loves what he teaches and he knows what he's talking about. Write down everything you hear and do the study guide that the SI instructor shows you and you'll get an A. He is for sure the best teacher I've ever had.
The hardest class I have ever had. Freshman year of college and I do not recommend him. He is tough and he gives the hardest tests I have ever taken. He is interesting but I would get an easier professor and he does not believe in textbooks. All he does is lecture and the notes that you take are all you have to go by. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
As long as you go to the SI sessions and read the books he tells you to read, you'll be fine. He is really funny and interesting his tests are hard but if you attend the sessions they are easy.
Very good teacher & makes class interesting. He is a really funny guy & wants his students to do well. STRICTLY lecture. As long as you show up every day he gives you 10 extra points, & you will do good. read the books he tells you to & you will make A's. SI sessions also VERY helpful. His tests are REALLY hard, take atleast 2 weeks to prepare!!!!!
Hardest professor I took my freshmen year! Strictly lectures so if you skip class, no way you're passing. Everything that comes out of his mouth has to be noted! Study 2 weeks ahead for lecture test because they are super hard! Great teacher he knows his stuff about history but the chance of passing the class with an A is probably unlikely!
Did not pass this class although I studied my butt off. He IS entertaining, but I love history and could not pass. If you are not good at notes, do NOT take this class.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Ouzts with these 350 words. He is an amazing teacher who is clearly passionate and also hilarious. As long as you come to class, take good notes, and study hard this will be an enjoyable class. His tests are tough, but he is the kind of teacher that makes you WANT to do well. Very approachable for help.
This class was amazing. I am not a History major and have always found history very boring- until now. Dr Ouzts is funny and engages the class with his lectures. He really knows the material and is happy to share his passion. The books aren't expensive and they are good reads. You HAVE to go to the SI sessions and study all the time to pass. 10/10
Dr. Ouzts is the best professor I have had in college. His lectures are entertaining and they make you want to come to class. He usually gives extra credit for perfect attendance. He is flexible with due dates and often lets you pick the test date. Do not skip class! Lectures are crucial for success. Hard, but doable. Great personality. Funny man.
Took him for Civil War.I absolutely loved the class and learned a lot! BUT his tests were the hardest tests I've ever taken. You will need to take the most detailed notes you've ever seen - like word for word from the lectures. The paper will not save your test grades. He does give some extra credit and its defiantly worth doing. STUDY!
be there ! Adds 10 points if you aren't late And have no absences. Also ask what's on the test ! He'll break it down and has an outline. Write everything that comes out of his mouth, things you think aren't important will be on the test. Test are difficult have to study but he is a great teacher
Literally the BEST teacher I have ever had. I took him for Civil War , and he made me fall in love with history. He absolutely loves teaching this subject, and he is awesome at it. He makes everything very interesting, and you won't be bored. DO NOT SKIP CLASS!!! Tests are strictly what he covers in class. Write down everything he says.
He is one of the most dedicated lecturers and has so much enthusiasm for the subjects that he's teaching about. He will make you fall in love with History. You will not be bored in his lectures. DONT SKIP CLASS! EVER! If you attend every class you get 10 pts extra. you will need it! His tests are very inclusive detailed. Pay attention!
His lectures are really one of a kind. There is a lot of material and reading, but I would still consider it a good class. Tip. The louder he is the more important the information.
Dr. Ouzts is one of my favorite professors. Make sure to take good notes and read the book. He is hilarious and very passionate about history. If you pay attention and study you will pass.
Dr. Ouzts lectures were extremely entertaining and informative. Make sure to take good notes, all the tests are just from his lectures.
Since he doesn't use a textbook, you will have to attend all of his classes to know what is on his test. Hes is very enthusiastic EVERY TIME. The class is for anybody that gets off track easily with boring lectures. You have to be a good note taker otherwise everything will just disappear. Never had homework, just study everyday. HIST 2111
This class has honestly made my love for history grow. I would highly recommend taking this professor! The test are hard, but if you study it is worth the hard work.
Awesome, awesome professor! Loved his class. Keep up with lecture notes and studying, you'll do find. He makes going to school actually enjoyable. Would take more of his classes just for fun.
okay, hes not a bad person at all. he's funny and it is very obvious he loves what he does and loves teaching. but, I will say I wouldn't take his class again. He has very long lectures, they're interesting but he just has too many tests and no ways to redeem yourself. its like you're digging up your own grave...
One of the best classes I have ever taken. Every lecture is education driven and informative. Dr. Ouzts' 15 page paper is meant to expand your interest on the subject of Native Peoples i.e. Battles, People/Person, etc, so pick early. Caution: this class will inspire you to think differently of GA territory as former Creek and Cherokee Lands.
Dr. Ouzts is one of the hardest professors I have ever taken but I would take him again in a heart beat! This man has taught me more in one class than I learn all semester in others. Write down EVERYTHING! Every word, every story, every antidote. It all matters! DO NOT SKIP CLASS! You will not pass if you miss! Extra credit for perfect attendance!
Dr. Ouzts is awesome! He is so passionate about what he teaches and gives such in-depth lectures. You better come to class because is you skip a day you will miss SO MUCH information. His tests are pretty hard but he tells you far in advance exactly what to study for. Even if history isn't your thing, you'll like his class.
This guy is fantastic. He is an undeniable subject matter expert with passionate and interesting lectures. There is a lot of material covered and the tests are difficult. I would recommend studying at least a week in advance for all tests. Overall a great professor and stand up individual. Grades and returns work very quickly.
Dr. Ouzts is an amazing professor! He's very passionate about what he teaches and he makes the subject matter very interesting. History used to be a boring subject for me, but not anymore! His class requires a lot of work as the tests can be difficult, but they're not unreasonable. He's very fair both with what he tests on and how he grades them.
Fantastic professor. You can tell he is VERY passionate about what he teaches. With that being said, this class was TOUGH. tests were crazy detailed. do not take unless you are willing to STUDY and work hard for your grade. Gives extra credit, but even that is not easy. Take him if you want to learn A LOT, but beware - this is not an easy A class!
Great guy. Great teacher. I will definately retake. However, he is very lecture heavy and if you miss, it will hurt your test grade. Very interactive and funny. Before this class, I was about to change major to polisci and he taught it in a way that made me change my mind. I am very grateful for that.
Professor Ouzts is very funny and makes history interesting. His tests are very difficult and 1/2 of the class dropped it mid semester. He lets you know everything that will be on the test. Tests are mostly open ended with some multiple choice. If you are a good test taker and study well I would definitely recommend the class.
He is a very knowledgeable history professor, but the way he handled the corona-virus situation caused me to get a C. He is strictly against using D2L for anything so when we were forced to go online, he assigned essays for the remainder of the semester. The class only had 5 assessments including the final which also contributed.
Dr. Ouzts is truly a great professor. His lectures are engaging and fun to listen to. However, if you don't know how to study DO NOT take his class. The whole class is graded off of 2 book tests worth 50 pts each and 3 lecture tests, which are long and hard. Extra credit granted for perfect attendance. Take him if you are looking for a challenge.
Professor Ouzts is an amazing professor and person. Unfortunately, I was only able to take his class online. He gives about 5 units and 5 tests. Each test is a lot of questions and you HAVE to know the notes. I wish I could have had him in person because he is SO KIND. This class is hard and it's a lot of reading and work; however, it is okay!!
Professor Ouzts is genuinely the most amazing professor Ive had in the two years of being at UNG. He takes people that dislike history and makes them actually enjoy it. As stated by many other reviews, his tests are a bit harder than normal, but it is easy to listen and take notes because he is so engaging and fun. Hes a great guy!
This class was by far the hardest history class Ive ever taken, but as long as you attend the bonus hours and STUDY, you will do really well in this class. He is also the best professor to have and hes very entertaining and dedicated.
He told us on the last day of class that he NEVER dreads coming to teach. You can absolutely tell! He loves what he is doing and that translates to the students loving what he is teaching about. By far the best teacher Ive had in my life. Though his tests are hard, you wont regret taking Professor Ouzts! The stuff I learned, Ill never forget!
Dr. Ouzts is a fantastic professor and human. However, his tests are no joke and are extremely lecture heavy. His knowledge regarding the history of Indigenous peoples and culture is second to none. However I do feel that his grading structure turns students away from understanding these concepts.
He is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. His tests are very hard, but making quizlets helped me a lot. He is a very fair grader and loves what he teaches. 10/10 recommend if you're willing to study a lot
Loved him! He's an amazing teacher, and you can clearly tell he loves his job. His lectures are content heavy, but enjoyable. No homework just make sure you study for your tests!
Very few grades, very long tests
Dr. Ouzts was an amazing professor. Be prepared to study for his tests, because they are detailed. Making Quizlets help. His lectures are engaging and his way of speaking is like story telling. He is a great professor, but be prepared to work hard!
Dr. Ouzts is an amazing person and has a good story-telling way of teaching, granted this left room for running out of class time and having to memorize such small details as you have to write down everything he says for notes. This class requires a lot of effort in and outside of school, and attendance is required, or you will fail.
Extremely passionate and knowledgeable professor. His lectures are engaging, interesting, and he makes topics that may be boring to some people fun for everyone. However, if you are not willing to work your tail off, do not take this class. No homework, but you will need to study your notes as often as possible and put in considerable effort.
Dr Ouzts is an amazing professor. He's extremely passionate about what he teaches and it shows. This is the first time I've enjoyed a history class - he makes it fun the way he teaches. However, don't be fooled- his class is very difficult. Do not take this class unless you are prepared to S T U D Y. Take really good notes and study hard!
Dr. Ouzts is one to be remembered. His class is very lecture heavy, and details matter. He provides you with everything you need to know for the test, the rest is up to you to review and take in as much of the content as you can. He makes his lectures fun and comedic, and his passion for history makes it intriguing to learn about!
Ouzts was definitely a great professor, but he isn't for everyone in terms of how you learn. There isn't much interaction with the notes in class, nor are there many assignments besides quizzes and tests. He gave AMAZING lectures. So engaging and told them like a story. I was entertained. I wouldn't take him again but if you love history, take him!
Engaging lectures from Prof. Ouzts, but this class requires serious studying. Take detailed notes and utilize unstuck ai alongside the textbook to excel. Tough, but rewarding if you put in the work.
Most interesting History class I've ever had. He teaches in a way that is entertaining, making it easier to pay attention and remember the info. 3 tests and 1 essay so had to do good on those to pass. Do not skip his classes. Flashcards will be your best friend for the test. Seriously, the tests are detail heavy so be prepared.
