Clayton's homework is pretty easy, we did once a week approx. Tests are hard as hell, so you better study. If you do well on the tests than you're pretty set. He's hard to understand because he talks really fast and assumes you know what he's talking about when you have no idea. The textbook was a good help, you'll need it. Don't get the Int'l.
This was arguably the worst course I have ever taken. How someone could take a topic as straightforward and simple as accounting and make it complicated is simply beyond me. A waste time and tax dollars.
The professor is very concerned that students learn the material and is always available for help outside of class and always prepared well for class.
Writes a lot of practice problems on the board, pretty good at fielding questions, though I think he sometimes assumes too much prior knowledge of the material. Very nice about grading adjustments. If you read the assigned text before class and work the practice problems along with everyone, you should be fine. Overall, he's a pleasant lecturer.
the last post is right, he was available outside, but mostly because he made such a mess during class. lectures were a total waste of time.
I personally really like him~ and I do think if you go to class and LiSTEN to him and ask abt questions u r not sure, u r gonna get good grades. HWs r really easy, btw.
I definitely felt like the lectures were a waste of time. I think he has so much interest in the subject that he kind of goes off on tangents a lot. He seems to be a nice guy and wants the students to do well but his class is difficult. I ended up reading the text book quite a lot in order to try and understand what was being talked about.
Nice Guy. Goes on tangents. Definitely prepares you for future accounting classes.
Great guy, easy to listen to but loves to go on tangents. Once talked about deferred taxes for an hour and a half. Exams are difficult but not impossible.
Clayton is a hell of a guy, seems like a stickler at first but is a fun professor. Ask lots of questions and you'll find that intermediate accounting isn't quite as boring as you think (don't get me wrong, the material is dry as f*ck but Clayton makes it interesting)
Before 5101, I wish I had Biondich. After 5101, I still wish I had Biondich. Forester didn't seem to want to be teaching (more into research) and was VERY disorganized. He seemed to be going through the motions & injected little into the lectures. Not a particularly bad professor, but not a good one. If you care, take it from someone else. C+
He is relatively useless as a professor. He is incredibly boring, vague and does not give any useful examples. One of the poorest of my four year career.
midterm is extremely long and no one in my class turn test in before time is up.
Ehhh. He talks down to you when you ask him to expand on a topic. He assumes you should always agree with him. Not awful but not great.
Very friendly and open for questions. Is always willing to help with topics or reschedule exams if there is a conflict. Easy going guy who loves to talk.
He is really willing to help you learn. Ask questions and the quizzes and tests won't be hard. He does the suggested problems in class and I would recommend paying attention to that because that is what he uses to make the test. Overall, great guy.
Absolutely incredible accounting professor. I dread accounting but he makes it tolerable. Lectures are very clear, he's funny, and he's overall very respectable. If you do the homework and show up to class it's easy to beat the curve on tests. He'll work as hard for you as you will for his class.
Clayton is good professor to take for ACCT 3001 if you are able to select him. The lectures themselves are sparsely attended, as he posts all slides on Moodle. Three exams and the best 5 of 6 quizzes make up your grade, no participation, no group projects. Always willing to give help and pretty clear on presenting the material. Would recommend
Clayton is really good at explaining Accounting concepts to people who are new to learning it. He teaches the class really fast, but answers questions if you get lost. The online resources are really helpful, I recommend doing the homework online, and then he reviews it during class. Overall, he is a great teacher who makes the class fun.
Clayton is a great lecturer who is quite humorous. He goes through material fairly quickly, but explains it concisely and well. You don't have to show up to class to get an A, but he does take attendance. As long as you do well on tests you should be fine. You might get around a 90% in the class and get a B (only complaint).
Pretty cool teacher. The exams are very much like the practice exams he post so make sure to take advantage of that, some of the questions are the same. The quizzes and exams should be a piece of cake if you read the book and do the practice problems. Attendance is required. Will give you back points on tests if you reason with him well.
He was a good prof but an even better person! Go to office hours & do the homework, and you'll do well. Also, go to class because he gives a lot of test hints.
Claytons one of my favorite Carlson professors. Incredibly personable with good and engaging lecturers. Tests aren't hard if you study, quizzes are even easier. I'm doing the Managerial Accounting in Argentina program with him and would highly recommend if you're looking at a 2 week excursion. I've heard he's easy for 5101, definitely take!
Clayton is one of my favorite profs I've had in Carlson. He is a very good lecturer, and also an extremely fun person to get to meet. If you're taking ACCT2050 and have the opportunity to have him as a prof, I highly encourage you to take it with Clayton.
Clay rocks. Best Accounting teacher by far. Gets it. Is a really goood teacher, class isnt mandatory. If you are able to do the material on your own or already know it he wont grade you down for skipping. He is really nice and helpful outside of class as well. He made me actually like accounting. Problems and practice probs are like tests.
He's very fair in his class. There are no tricky questions meant to fail you. If you do the assigned reading and homework, you'll be prepared for the Quizes/Exams. Very approachable and friendly. Answers questions and clarifies if you're not clear about something. Of all the accounting/finance classes I had to take, I enjoyed Clay's the most.
International accounting is a very interesting class. Clayton really engages his students in the topic. With it being a half term class, there are a lot of quizzes/midterms squeezed into the 6 weeks. The quizzes are very challenging and need to be studied for. Overall, great class if you put in the effort.
Clayton is a "know-all" professor and has intensive experience in his field. His answers are clear, concise and extremely easy to understand. His knowledgeable about the subject is amazing. He is friendly and encourages students to participate to class discussions. Would love to take his class again!
Clayton is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. He recognizes that not everyone wants to be in this class and tries to make lectures fun. His tests are very tough, you need to do all of the problems assigned and understand the material, but he is a very nice guy and will help you if asked.
Forster is a great teacher who obviously cares about whether his students learn or not. Very helpful in general. Tests are reasonable for concepts covered, no surprises.
Best. Professor. At. Carlson.
Great guy. His lectures get a little boring, but he has great videos where he goes over his slides which really help for the quizzes and tests.
Quizzes and tests based on lecture material, not the textbook. Does well thoroughly explaining, and you'll do well in the class if you follow along in class. Attendance is non-mandatory but there are occasional in-class exercises that you turn in for credit. Clayton is probably the best accounting professor I've had, he was pleasant and has humor.
Clayton's lectures are straightforward and not too dry. He posts his lectures online and usually those are a great study tool for exams. Additionally, he has passion for the class subject and grades quizzes and exams relatively quickly.
Clay has a good sense of humor and posts super helpful lecture videos online which makes up for him going over lessons too quickly in class.
Easy going guy, his lectures are super useful and funny so go! HW is good practice
Clay is great. Definitely do the suggested homework problems that he assigns but doesn't grade. His lectures are usually pretty funny, and his tests aren't too hard.
Good instructor, presents subject matter clearly and makes class fun with a good sense of humor. Exams are fairly similar to the practice exams. Homework isnt graded but its definitely helpful for the quizzes which are approximately every other week. Showing up to class is a good idea but he doesnt take attendance.
One of my favorite professors by far! Very willing to help in and out of class. He is very funny and has serious knowledge of the subject matter. Very fair grader despite his tests tending to be longer than most. Good use of the book and I really appreciated his balance of concepts and examples (lots of examples!)
Wasn't sure if I'd like Clayton at first , because he cold-called and also I didn't have the book yet. Once I learned that on his class Canvas page he posted online lectures/videos for every chapter, my learning was amazing. This makes it so much easier to know what he expects and get the right information any time at any pace. Also a real nice guy
Clay is a really great guy! He is super understanding and genuinely wants to get to know his students. Although the material isn't the most exciting content, he manages to make it interesting. He also posts lecture videos online, which are a HUGE help with studying for the quizzes and exams. Attendance is only mandatory for in class exercises
It was easy to tell Clay was a genius from day 1. He could ramble on for hours on numerous topics in acct. Although he was well informed, he wasn't the best for my learning style. He had lecture slides but often didn't use them so I struggled to follow along with what was necessary information and what was supplementary. Still recommend him though.
Get someone else if you can, quizzes and exams are unnecessary hard, he doesn't even go through the powerpoints & go straight to do problems
I took his class during the coronavirus pandemic. I mention this because, out of all of my professors, Clayton was easily the one who adjusted to it the best. Clearly cares about the subject matter and his students. If he sees problems with the exams he will make adjustments. Great professor and I'm glad I had him.
He's a great professor. He did a great job adjusting to the unusual circumstances of this semester. Provides lecture videos and practice exams, which were very helpful in my opinion. He's a very quick grader and will curve an exam if he senses the median was too low. I highly recommend Clay, one of the best professors I've had at Carlson.
Dr. Forester is a good professor, and has good lectures, but he will sometimes forget to tell students his expectations before next class, and may spend half of class on one textbook question. Attendance is for graded in class group problems. I only used the textbook to look at recommended questions. Exams are not too bad, with weekly quizzes.
Clay posts his lectures on line which are much better than going to class. The only downside is he gives in-class homework problems that count for 10% of your grade so going to class is necessary. Easy class. Tests are not hard but loooooong (2-3 hours).
Great Professor. I though he taught everything very well & was clear about expectations & grading. Some quiz & exam questions were a little cheap, but its still not that hard of a class if you put the effort in.
It was really clear that he cared about us as human beings and not just students. The class isn't too hard if you put in the work and ask questions/attend office hours sometimes. He teaches at a really slow pace though which can make it difficult to stay focused, especially if it's online.
Clay is a good professor, and I would imagine he would be even better in an in-person format. I found it very hard to pay attention to his online synchronous lectures due to how slowly he went at some times. I recommend finding a very solid group early on to do homework with and study with them for exams!
Very helpful teacher and very good guy if you get to know him. Beyond being a great guy, he also is a refreshing professor to have in business considering he doesn't care about formalities and the stuff that doesn't need to be taught in a classroom.
Tough but fair. Good lecturer. He can go through the material very quickly and then spends a lot of times on examples. I prefer to watch his recorded Zoom lectures than live class. Tests are LONG!!!
Prof Clayton was a great professor he had clear grading criteria and was great at teaching the course material. If you go to class and pay attention during lecture, complete all the in-class exercises you will do just fine in the course.
Very stingy and unforgiving grader. Misunderstand one concept and you can drop a full letter grade on a test. Isn't accommodating and is rather cold when approaching outside of class.
Clayton's passionate about accounting and wants you to be, too. He gives very thorough lectures (obviously, considering it's an upper-level accounting course), and the quizzes and tests are tough. But, if you study hard and follow along in class, you'll do well. A very rewarding course!
He is awful, he breezes through concepts in warp speed and does not care who retains the information or not. His class is notorious for being the hardest ACCT 2050 and ACCT 3001 and he grades absurdly (check GopherGrades). He sucks
Extremely strange teaching style. Impossible quizzes and exams. Teaches as if everyone in the class has a PH.D. I usually get As in my classes. Uses trick questions.
Makes what at the surface should be very simple concepts and arithmetic but chooses to present said information in the most unnecessarily complex way possible. Makes huge jumps between examples assuming the class has extensive background knowledge in accounting. Doesn't communicate any information to TAs so they are unable to support as well.
Dont get behind, teach yourself everything then go to class he just talks about what you read doesn't teach it.
Clayton was a very caring and understanding professor but unfortunately, his lectures were terrible. He never presented the subject matter clearly and it seemed that everyone in his class had no idea what was going on. he never curves any of the exams even though the average of an exam would be failing.
His teaching style is the worst I've ever had. If you enjoy sitting while he rambles on for an hour pulling numbers from random places and not taking the time to explain things he would be great for you. He also makes slides, but he may be used those slides for one lecture ever, he goes based on memory a lot and thus makes mistakes. Worst Prof
Loved Clay as a person hated him as a teacher. Lectures we never really went over chapter material which caused median test grades to be 65% for midterm and final. You teach yourself the material and nothing was curved until he realized his numbers so low so he curved to have some students pass the class. the content is cool of class is cool tho.
Clay was a very good professor. I don't see why he gets a bad rap from students. If you read the textbook (roughly 1 hour a week) this will be the easiest class you take. There is no homework and there are quizzes biweekly. His teaching style is a bit different from the usual but the concepts in this class are very basic.
Professor Clayton has a confusing lecture style, jumps around a lot, doesn't use slides, and assumes everyone in the class already understands the material. Exams are very difficult and makeup about 75% of your grade. Exams can be curved, but only if most of the class does poorly. Take any other professor if you can.
This professor has an in-depth understanding of the material, it was helpful to take notes and read the book before the lecture for context. Our class had weekly quizzes and ICA's. Two midterms, no final exam. This professor was relatable, educated, and funny- he made an effort to make the lectures knowledgeable yet entertaining.
Clay is very knowledgeable regarding the material and is able to questions very well. He's funny and cares about the students. This class is very hard and it will take a lot of time to get an A. The exams were very hard, and 80% of students got a failing grade on them. At the end of the semester there was a 13% curve applied on the median of 74.75%
The first exam is unbelievably difficult, and the bi-weekly quizzes are challenging and very difficult to do well on. You have to try really hard in this class which is an introductory class and it shouldn't be this difficult since all majors have to take this. I don't recommend this professor
Terrible class structure, and lengthy power points that don't help. He rambles on and on and it makes it very easy to get lost, especially since he does not actively follow what he is saying/writing with the slides. The subject matter itself is not hard at all if you teach it to yourself, so if you choose him be prepared to do that.
This class was required to be taken through ICore and each section has set professors, so I was stuck with taking his class. Don't get me wrong, he is a decent guy and presents the course material. However, if you are just trying to get the credit and have no interest in pursuing accounting in the future, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Take Paul White!
Clay's a great caring guy, making managerial accounting bearable with fair grading, always taking off as few points as he can. Quick lectures, so prep and watch videos. His humor and engaging style compensate for any teaching quirks. Bonus: he bumped my grade by a percent to raise my letter grade, showing flexibility despite initial no-curve talk.
Fantastic Professor and even though I didn't end with the best grade in the class (mostly because accounting has never been my strong suit) he was very caring and always open to answering peoples questions in and outside the classroom. If you have to take him in the upcoming semesters, consider yourself lucky because he's the best!
INTERMEDIATE 2: Clayton is very intelligent and knowledgeable in all aspects of accounting which helps him provide solid in-class concept examples, but I would not recommend taking this course with him. His class is very lecture heavy, 100+ slides straight from the textbook. Two midterms and a Final that SHOULD be on excel (on paper no cheat sheet)
Clayton is a great guy, but it seems he tends to put a lot more focus into his MBA students and not as much in undergraduate. Very challenging exams and the practice problems that he suggests students to go over are often much different than the problems that he puts on his exams. I would not recommend you take any undergraduate courses with him.
Very good professor and a very nice guy. Graded on 3 quizzes and 3 midterms/tests. Somewhat difficult - I had to rely on reading the textbook more than lectures, but I know others didn't need to. Only downside of Clayton is that he works very quickly through practice examples in class so if you don't already know what you're doing its hard.
Clayton is a very nice guy, however his lecture could drag on at times. The quizzes and tests are pretty challenging so make sure to study. He is not terrible but I would not take him again. If you have to take him you will be alright just be sure to study.
Lectures are fast and requires you to pay attention. However, that should be all classes. There are no HW but doing the exercises he suggests will help with the quizzes and exams. He's a great professor and makes accounting easy to understand whereas other teachers force you to take lame connect assignments. Clayton gets to the point.
Great professor for the accounting pre req. Great lectures, test are hard and there's not many assignments but there's a good bump at the end of the course. He's really thorough when explaining concepts and walks you through the course well. Overall great really personable guy, good professor.
Forester is a great professor who will teach you what you need to know in the lectures. Reading the textbook isn't required, but it is helpful to use for practice for exams. If you don't understand something he will spend the whole class explaining it to you until you do. Good guy, would take a class with him again.
There were two midterms, and no cumulative final, which was nice. Everything other than the midterms was graded on participation so it was difficult to see how you were doing in the class until the first midterm grade came in. Other than that, he tried to make it a fun class but went through lecture slides very fast.
Honestly the tests were not like the practice exams and they had so many twists that i just got stuck. got an A on the first test then a 55% on the second test. i failed every quiz except one and took the final and had to get an 80 to pass the class. it was very lecture heavy and he doesnt assign problems to do in the textbook for homework.
Took him for Excel. It is a teach-yourself class in which you watch videos before class, take a quiz, and do an in-class assignment during class. To study for the tests, redo the ICAs. He made the midterms pretty easy compared to what I've heard from students with other professors. He is very caring and helps students when needed.
Professor Forester is great, his tests are pretty easy as long as you've been keeping pace with the homework and in-class assignments. My only critique about the course is that all of the "lectures" are online, through videos.
One of my favorite professors, had a good time in his class. Made excel understandable and helps you if you need it. Highly recommend!
Prof Forester was a good prof. Midterms where based off ICA's & homework's, the practice problems he provides are way harder than whats on the exam. Sometime's he gets stuck and doesn't know how to do something, and you kind of waste class time for him to figure it out when you don't know what your doing. But he curves your overall grade nicely.
Excel isn't the most interesting thing in the world to learn about, but Prof Forester made it bearable. I enjoyed this class because I actually felt that I was learning something new, and something that is useful to know. He illustrated the concepts clearly and provided plenty of learning resources to help the class. Definitely recommend!
Clay is a very nice man. He goes through the slides incredibly fast. He talks as if he is paid by the word. I think it would have been more beneficial for me to skip class and spend that time reading the textbook and doing practice problems. He is helpful if you ask questions or schedule office hours. Plan on teaching yourself most of the content.
As a professor, the lectures are heavy and hard to follow. Most of it is self-taught. but he has a straightforward study guide that are similar to the midterm/finals. As a person, he's EXTREMELY lenient on grading and if u just bring up a concern/problem he's very flexible with exemptions.
he's good, but lectures can get overwhelming cause he jumps around in the slides and goes through questions verbally instead of writing them out. his quizzes were sometimes hard, but exams weren't too bad.
The professor did great walk-throughs of how to do the in-class assignments, which was great. Success in this class is based off of how much practice you do outside since the test are only easy if you practice. Homework can be difficult, but class was pretty easy overall.
Clayton was my favorite teacher in maroon core, his class is difficult but if you do the foundational 15's for every chapter you will succeed. His quizzes are difficult but you get to drop one. Build a good relationship with him and you will succeed in this class.
Not recommend this teacher. Always tried to show that he was right no matter what. His lectures did not help me in the end but wasted my time. Would not recommend.
Pre-class quizzes were a drag but other than that he was great
