I took him for Art Education 367.01 He is very easy, helpful, and fun too listen too. This course will knock out 2 GEC's. Your 2nd writing course, and your Visual & Preforming Arts. Take it if you can...A++++
Take this class, just show up and write clear grammatically correct papers and you are sure to get an A
ArtEd 367.01 .. Quite possibly one of the best professors at OSU.. His lectures are very interesting and relevant.. Tests/Quizzes/Papers are straight-forward (he'll let you know way ahead of time what youre expected to know for the tests).. 2 Thumbs Up
Super nice, super easy. Very easy A. He was very accommodating to any problems you have.
It was the first time he taught this course and I have to give him credit for his effort and the intriguing articles we were exposed to.
This class is a mess, it is so disorganized and i realize it's his first time teaching it but it's crazy.
Easy A...somewhat interesting but usually not. hes a nice guy but the class is pretty boring. ashley martin is a great TA though! =)
Very disorganized, interesting class, if you attend lectures and write a few papers it is an EASY A. He can't spell very well and he words questions very weird. MO Smith is a sweet TA though.
Class is somewhat interesting but Clayton is totally whacked and usually quite confusing. Class is extremely easy if you do the work. Attendance is taken in lectures, but find a friend to sign you in and you'll only have to go to a few. Easy A.
Weird guy, lectures are really boring and disorganized, but if you have a good TA the class is bearable. Definitely an Easy A, just do the assigned work
worst put together class ever. he is an idiot
I really liked this class, if you went and took notes it was fine. Mo Smith was an awesome TA. Not much work, but you just have to do what little work there is. Final was open book, open note. I honestly can't believe anyone didn't like this class.
Passionate about the subject, and motivated to teach. If you enjoy music/pop culture his class is for you. Personally, it was just an easy/boring GEC. Get Mo Smith for a TA- the man is a genius and really chill
Terrible professor. Terrible class. Makes you buy his $70 dollar book that he wrote, only to make you go to lectures where he lectures from the book that he wrote. Not exciting at all, I did not learn a thing. He is simply in this for the money. Avoid at all costs. But an easy GEC depending on your TA who does all the grading.
I hated this class too. I took the class online, and nearly everything conflicted. The online dates didn't match the syllabus dates. My TA was incompetent and when I brought it to Professor Funk's attention, he did nothing to fix the problem. The book was a joke. The entire class was a waste of time and money.
Could be an interesting class but not well organized. Attendance was taken but I don't think it counted for anything. Worst part was the grading scale, they changed it from the university scale without telling anyone before the class started. Overall easy class though
Funk is the worst. I can't believe people like him get paid for what they do. This is an easy VPA credit, but I would almost rather do more work to avoid his terrible lectures and busy work.
The online class is easy. I would recommend it but it sucks that he makes you pay $70 for the book that he wrote (you need it though). It really seems like he's trying to make money off students.
Easy VPA credit, but you need a 97% to get an A. Boring lectures, however all quizzes and tests are online and open book. You have to submit papers, the easiness is really dependent on your TA.
I don't thick professor understood art or history too well, just focused on Mtv and movies and played a bunch of clips in class like south park and Monty Python to waste everyones time and money. Attending is required but half the students leave right after signing in and he doesn't do anything about it.
Fun class, extremely easy but a lot of works. Just take it to boost GPA, its worth it. Other GEC classes can be boring sometimes, but in this class you get to listen to songs, watch videos, we even watched pulp fiction! so its definitely a fun GPA booster
he was terrible, his lectures were boring but you were required to come to class and sign in. he put me to sleep everyday but i was still forced to attend his class because class participation is ten percent of your grade. gives busy work and it is an all around worthless class
Lecture is pointless. All the quizzes and exams are online and the questions come straight out of the book. You are required to attend and listen to him stroke his ego.I fell asleep everytime I actually went to class and still passed. The essay assignments are a joke as well. No clear directions are given.
Classes are completely incomprehensible. Nothing seems to follow any coherent line of reason. Either that, or the material was so dull I was unable to pay attention. His quizzes are just fill-in-blank word-for-word copied from Funk's book, which you have to buy. Classes are mandatory even though they are pointless. Easy, but really not worth it.
Replace Dr. Funk with a monkey and you may not notice a difference.
this teasher was a disaster...if anyone has to take his class, may the good Lord be with you!
You HAVE to get the book because, oddly enough, the answers you may find to the quiz in encyclopedias or other credible sources don't correspond with the "facts" in Dr. Funk's book. Blah.
This is the most useless class I've ever taken in my 3 years at OSU. Easy A but frustrating because you're not learning anything. Lots of pointless busy work, attendance is required, an A is 97%+, and you have to buy his poorly edited $70 book. Can you tell I didn't like this class, haha? Take it only if you're desperate for a GPA booster!
There is quite a bit of work in this class but its not difficult work. everything is open book so quizzes and the final are really easy. Get Mike Bontempo as a TA if possible. Funk's lectures can get frustrating because he jumps around a lot but there is no need to take notes. Simply go to lecture, pay attention, and it will be interesting.
This class is almost useless. If you are a hippy and/or love coming to class on LSD you will enjoy this course. The topics covered are absolutely ridiculous, and have no relevance to reality (Example: talked about how art can take you to to different places while being there at same time). Just come to class and read the book for an A.
Book is so poorly edited, yet absolutely necessary and expensive. ($60) Lots of busy work, but easy. No use in taking the non-online class, because lectures are pointless and not helpful, but mandatory. Kind of ridiculous that an A is a 97+; this is the only class @OSU I've heard of that does that. Boost your GPA, and don't expect to learn anything
This is the most worthless professor at OSU. He relied on his TA for everything, graded nothing, and NEVER responded to student emails. I mean seriously, this is an online course, how else are we supposed to ask questions? The book that he wrote is 100% necessary, if you don't buy it you WILL fail. Questions are all based on his interpretations.
Very easy class to get an "A" and the teacher was nice. but if you are actually interested in art like I was, and want to take an interesting class, do not take this one. I am very annoyed I wasted money on this class. I did not learn a thing. He teaches his opinions and the book was scattered, jumping all over the place.
He rambles and attendence is useless but it is taken for a grade. Get the textbook because all the online quizzes use it as well as the final exam. Try and write down the questions he uses on the quizzes because alot of them will be used on the final.
This class is definitely an easy A, however you do need the textbook. It's pretty cheap, but all the quizzes and midterm/final are based on the textbook. His lectures are extremely boring and he rambles on too much, but attendance is for a grade. Buy the book and you're set.
The most useless class ever. Attendance is mandatory and worth a lot of your grade. He literally rambles on about nothing. Lectures are based on HIS opinion and not facts. Everything is online, even the final. He does not respond to emails or even grade anything. His TAs do it all. You have to buy his overpriced book. Easy A but awful class.
Funk is the worst teacher I've had in OSU. Attendance is mandatory and graded. His quizzes and final are totally based on the textbook. I didn't learn anything from his lectures, and his textbook is based on his interpretations.
Extremely Helpful and Understanding if you reach out to him. Also an interesting class, Attendance is not mandatory but is worth points.
Class was super EASY!! Only think that stinks is that attendance is mandatory. I would definitely try to take it online if at all possible. Material learned in lecture is pointless. However, quizzes and final are online. You need his book in order to answer the quiz questions because he doesn't go over that material in class. Easy class and easy A!
Pretty high expectations for a GEC course. Assigned seating in a lecture hall of 300+ annoying. Mandatory attendance policy is ridiculous (i.e. miss one class, get no points for that week). Grade received highly dependent upon which of 5 TAs you're assigned to. Course title sounds appealing but if you can find another course to satisfy requirement.
Had the great idea of taking attendance in an auditorium of around 250 people. He takes his subject way too seriously. I'm convinced he's a communist and I'm still on the fence as to whether he's gay or not. The work was crazy easy. Everything is online and he says it's open book. He's cool about that.
By far one of the worst professors ever. Mandatory attendance for a class where attendance is completely unnecessary, as all quizes/ tests are based off of the book and nothing from lecture is covered. His TA's are mostly incompetent and more than half of them are foreign and you can't understand them. Don't take his course if you can.
Amazing, super cool and fun class. Class gets out usually around 40 mins early almost every time!
Mr. Funk is great. Certain subtopics are interestingamusing. However, SUPER EASY CLASS!! No tests, just online quizzes, which are easy, and 3-4 papers (nothing too difficult). ALWAYS got out 30 minutes early. Attendance is required. TA's grade your papers generously. Easy A.
This class was entertaining and an easy filler class. It was nice to have a gened filled with a class that did not require a ton of work because he knew you had more important classes to worry about. I would strongly reccomend this class.
EASY A CLASS
This guy is awesome! Easy class, he is there for you. Class is mandatory, but not horrible as he usually lets you out early. He is passionate about students learning and loves what he teaches. This makes for a great class. If you go to class and get assignments done, EASY A. Would take again in a heartbeat. Clayton, you are awesome!
I took Dr. Funk to fulfill my visual arts GEC. Although I was not excited about the subject, it was interesting enough due to Funk's lectures. Participation points are taken every class, so don't take it if you plan on skipping a lot. Quiz answers are all online.
Funk's 1600 class is far and away the easiest course for credit I've taken at Ohio State. Knock all of the quizzes out in the first week (the answers are online and in the powerpoints) and then all you have the rest of the semester are a film and art worksheet, which take about an hour each. Attendance is mandatory, but you can just use your phone.
Interesting class. Funk made it fun and had music on while entering and exiting class. Weekly quizzes, super easy. Fill in the blank notes in class 2X per week.2 "projects", the Art Worksheet where you answer short-answer type questions regarding a piece of art, very simple. Also the Film worksheet, super easy also. Good class to take for easy A.
For the online class he is a hard grader for opinionated papers and discussion posts. If others do not answer the discussion post in time it affects your grade. Really don't recommend this class unless you are truly interested in art.
I really love Clayton. I took this class as an easy GE credit but walked away with a larger understanding of art since 1945. Every lecture has corresponding guided notes where you need to fill in blanks missing from the slides. I ended the class with 100%. Two easy "papers" where you're required to visit a museum and see a movie in a theater.
easiest GE you can take
Great Visual Performing Arts General Education Credit He is super laid back and funny. Lectures are not mandatory but they are interesting and cool so I go. There is one quiz a week and no midterms or finals. There are 2 art worksheets of which you choose a piece of art and analyze it. Fun and simple class.
Easy online class. If you are not a complete stick in the mud with no imagination, you can easily complete all of the assignments. The hardest one involved describing two red squares. Most of it is opinion and completion. He gave me near full credit for an assignment I turned in late. You technically have to go to an exhibit, but I didn't.
ARTED 1600 with Funk was the only class i looked forward to each week. As long as you put effort into the Art and Film worksheets, you will get an A. Online lecture quizzes were easy. If you need to take a Art Gen ed, take this class with Clayton Funk.
Eaaaassssy as can be. Gives the answers to the quizzes word for word in class. Only in the class for 30-40 minutes. Easy a
Eaaaaaasy A. Find a friend in the class where you both can alternate who goes to class to get the notes. Gives the answers to the online quizzes word for word in the notes. Nice guy and very passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are pretty fun. Reading the online textbook is not necessary as the quizzes are all based on lecture.
Very easy A! Notes are fill in the blank and as long as you go to class to get the blanks, then you will get 100's on all the quizzes. No exams, just two worksheets that count as a midterm and final. As long as you put some thought and effort into these assignments you will get an A! The easiest GE at ohio state. Professor is also a great guy.
One of the best GE's I've ever taken. The material gets more interesting as the course goes on but stays just as trivial. No exams, just two papers and weekly quizzes. Easiest "A" I've ever earned.
Easiest class at Ohio State, kind of interesting. Weekly, 7 Q Quiz online over class notes and reading. 2 Papers, easily graded, take about an hour each. My recommendation is find someone else in class to share notes on alternate days. He posts note outline before class, you just have to fill in blanks.
Very interesting course, and well taught. There are guided notes for each lecture, go to lecture and fill them out to do well on weekly online quiz. Other than that there are two "papers" that involve visiting a theater and an art gallery. Kind of fun, graded leniently. Best VPA GE to take. Annoying some sections require an iPad next sem, no need.
Easiest VPA Gen. Ed. either online or in-person. Online quizzes can all be done at once. Six easy, online discussions. Two worksheets on an artwork and film that are easy A's if you put any effort. Save this class for when you have a tough semester.
If I'm honest, I didn't pay attention for a single second in this class and still got an A. Funk makes the class super easy with online quizzes and easy papers making up all of your grade. He was great about makeup work and just all around very easy-going. Definitely recommend him for an easy art GE.
This class had 13 quizzes that you could do in one day. It has 2 "big" worksheet papers where you go see art for one and go to a movie theater for another and analyze your experience and the art. Then you just have weekly discussions. Do the work and it's a suuuuper easy A.
Super easy class with very interesting content. All you need to do is put in a small amount of effort and youll get a good grade.
Easy GE. short & easy discussion posts once a week, then replies due the next week, then repeat. 13 quizzes, knock them out in the beginning (ans on quizlet/course hero, or easy to find in course material). 2 "papers" (on an art and a film), but are really just a bunch of prompts requiring a paragraph. I only missed 1.5 points w minimal effort.
Dr. Funk is kind, caring and clear. He makes it clear that he wants you to learn and makes it easy to succeed in the course. Grading criteria is very clear and it was very possible to do well in this class!
Best gened that OSU offers. Great professor, easy homework, easy quizzes, few papers and no final. It is a 3 credit hour class that you collectively spend 10 hours in.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I learned a lot from both the professor and my classmates through discussion boards. There are weekly quizzes that you can knock out at the beginning of the semester, and the worksheets are easy as long as you put some effort in. Overall this class was super easy and I would take it again in a heartbeat.
Easiest class there is. Seriously. Weekly discussion, open book quizzes with two attempts, and an art & movie critique. I had an issue with a quiz grade, and Dr. Funk cleared it up immediately. He publishes all of the modules at once, so you can definitely work ahead! Take this class for your GE requirement, especially during a tough semester.
You could sleep through this class and probably get at least a B. He really emphasizes students exploring different ways to talk about street art and their own place in the world, this class felt more like I was exploring rather than traditionally learning, which is always appreciated. I took it on top of 15 credits and it was very little time/ wk.
Best gen ed class ever. Just put some effort into the weekly quizzes and two assignments (one art piece, one movie response) and you'll get an A.
Nice professor, easy A.
Easiest VPA GE at Ohio State. The class consists of quizzes, 2 papers, and discussions (just remember to do them). The quizzes/discussions are easy and can be completed super quickly and are guaranteed A's. The papers require you to write about a piece of art and a movie. As long as you answer the questions and put effort into these should be A's.
Funk is a great professor. gets back to you fast by email and very casual! class is organized very well. EASY discussions almost every week, easy right out the book quizzes each week, and 2 larger analyzing assignments with plenty of time to complete. this is the easiest/fun class to take for your GE. love prof Funk!!!
Awesome professor. I took the course over the summer and it was asynchronous and could be done in your own time, I managed to finish it within 2 days and enjoyed it! Definitely made a GE enjoyable!
He was a very easy and kind prof with lecture slides posted on Carmen! Attendance was not mandatory. He also responds to emails quickly!
Weekly quizzes but very easy, two big assignments, meets only once a week.
very easy GE. take this for ur art credit. online version was 100x easier than in-person bc u can take quizzes ahead of time. quizzes were easy and from textbook. the 2 main projects were easy too. u could spend a max of 20mins per week on this class
Online was easy, spent about 1 hour/wk on class except the two weeks with projects it maybe took 2 hours. Discussion posts, quizzes, and 2 projects are all you have to do. You really don't have to do all of the reading every week (I rarely did any) to take the quizzes. TAs were great and everyone I know got an A.
Dr. Funk was probably the best teacher I have had to date at this school, he is passionate about what he does and is a good lecturer. He always blares music over the speakers for whatever generation you are studying, this was one of my favorite things. You can tell he really cares, only really big projects are two simple essays 10/10 class
Take this as ur art GE. Dr. Funk was my supervisor & TA's were nice Lectures r interesting. 1 weekly quiz & 2 big projects, all easy. Discussion posts r ur own thoughts & opinions. Learning about different art such as music, installations, & paintings was cool. U get what u put into this class but easy A with about 1 hour max of work a week.
very easy and chill class
Great professor and person! He brightened my day every time during lecture. The class material is interesting and Professor Funk made it even better.
By far one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. Clayton means well and he understands we have lives outside of school. There were no exams or quizzes and very little homework. Throughout the semester its mainly just group work and then three "albums." He grades very easily as long as you put effort into your work.
Very kind Professor and easy class
He's probably the easiest professor I ever had. Would recommend him 10/10.
Brilliant professor, 2 papers in total and simple weekly online quiz, both are easy.
Probably the easiest class at OSU. Professor Funk seems like a nice and caring guy. You aren't required to go to his lectures, but I recommend you do because he has a passion for teaching and displays interesting information. There isn't any difficulty at all in this class, just be consistent with doing the quizzes each week, and the 2 projects.
He's a cool dude.
Very nice guy, very easy class. No complaints at all. If you need to fulfill your LVP Gen Ed Requirement, I absolutely recommend that you take this class.
If you need to take a GE lesson, I would recommend this course with no doubt. Funk's lesson is very interesting. Easy to get an A!
Such a fun and spunky guy! The lecture was supposed to be an hour and twenty minutes but he always let us out after 40. I stopped coming to lecture super early in the semester and was still able to do well. Everything is very clear and online accessible. He would always come into class and shake all the students hands which was so sweet!
This class was an easy GE. Expect a discussion post each week, and then the following week is a response to I think 6 other students. You have 2 projects that are time-consuming but easy work. Don't procrastinate. My TA was an easy grader; just don't forget the deadlines. You can not get full credit back for assignments
lectures are interesting if you're into art and music. only like 10% of the class was showing up by the middle of the semester - attendance isn't mandatory. i never talked with him but he seems like a cool dude who cares about the class and his students. the quizzes can be tough if you didn't go to lecture but you can take them twice so it's fine
Dr.Funk is a great professor who is very passionate about what he is teaching. There are weekly quizzes that have 2 attempts and aren't too bad. There are no midterms but there are 2 big worksheets throughout the class. Attendance isn't mandatory. Overall, Dr.Funk is a great professor and this a very easy GE.
Overall very sweet guy but sometimes the classes were really boring. LOTS OF GROUP ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS. He wasn't a hard teacher at all but he gives out busy work.
The easiest class I have taken at OSU. He is very understanding, grades leniently, and lets you do literally whatever for your "projects" or assignments as long as you follow a short rubric. I had this class one day a week from 1:00-4:15 but Professor Clayton let us leave at 2:00 every day. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!!!!
Great class, great professor. If you need to take an art GE, TAKE THIS CLASS! The lectures cover everything in the weekly quizzes, and you get two attempts, so they're pretty easy. There are two major assignments, but they typically take no more than an hour and are graded leniently. It's an easy A, and Dr. Funk is an awesome dude.
