It's totally subjective with prof. Majete. It depends if one appreciates expletives and total frankness. He answers all questions even if they're looked down upon by the society. If one wants to have the know how to solve problems take him.

Majete's classes ARE easy, but he has no structure whatsoever when teaching this course. He talks about his own experiences the WHOLE semester, which gets boring quick. Most of his exams questions come straight from the study guide.
He talks about his personal life the whole time and does the same lesson almost every class. 2 tests and one term paper.. throws a curve on the test because its impossible to do good since he doesnt teach anything.. my worst professor

Well i didn't learn any sociology from his class. Basically, he sits there and talks about his life and repeats the same story about a couple hundred times. His tests are tricky. not recommended. He's not a bad person, just not a good teacher.
He doesn't teach. He tells the same story over and over again. But when it comes to test, he expects u to know everything so the grades r very low. Don't expect to learn from him and don't take him if u care abt learning or getting a good GPA.

It is hard to call him a teacher because of his lack of teaching. In fact he lost half of the class' research paper and wasn't even there when we were supposed to hand them in. I received the highest grade in class and that was an 80!
I'd write something about him but the 15 people before me wrote exactly what I was going to say.

He was the easiest teacher that i have seen in a long time. He's the best because he gives out easy greades. Lots of students really like him.

Well what can I say? If you want to learn the story of his life, definetely enroll. If you care about your GPA or the subject, dont. He teaches life lessons... I think
He can just spend all day talking about topics which aren't even going to be on the tests. He hates ( even he said he loves) it when students disagree with him. And he just pick out random sentences from the text to make a 100 M.C. test.

His class is a snooze. If you want to learn sociology, find someone else.
He is not the best proffesor that I have had. He does waste time and does not go over the material or teach at all. He needs to let his students know what will be on any exam because his reviews suck and you have to read the book.
He doesn't teach sociology. What he does in the class is just talking, yelling, muttering, and awaking people who fell asleep. Test is very long - 100 questions. You have to teach yourself.

This guy might know his subject, but never talks about it in class for more than 5 minutes. You prefer to sleep in his class, because he does take attendance. Not all the questions on the test are even from the book.

Majete is a self righteous man who should not have the right to teach. He speaks of minorities, but neglects the fact that blacks are not the only minority.
He is a very weird person and likes to get into people's personal business. This guy does not teach, very lazy and boring and wants people to vomit everything in their sexual life to the class. Socio should be interesting, it's nothing like that with him
VERY easy grader, ESPECIALLY participation. students get at least B if you attend class everyday and don't fall asleep. my friends and i have no idea why we get grades that we don't deserve to get. he would be nothing if he doesn't teach sociology.
He is so preoccupied with his own life that he turned the classroom into a therapy session. I dropped him after he attacked my personally for speaking my mind. If a sociology professor can not accept one's opinion, maybe he should not teach...

I know more about his ex-wife and his daughter than I do about Sociology. There is absolutely NO reason for him to even come to the class...he teaches NOTHING...I suggest if you have him sign yourself in and leave... don't let your life waste away in his class...you wont get it back.

I got A, despite of low grade in the midterm. I don't know how I got it. He doesn't teach, so u have to read the book. I guess what he only cared about is the paper over 10 pages, with free topic. If you want to take a long break (but don't fall asleep) while getting an A, it is ok to take him.
Do not take him. he is one of the worst teachers ever!! He talks about different topics that are not on the course outline. He says the same damn stuff every class about his daughter and his ex-wife. Who cares?
He is a good man, and he means well, but as a sociologist (whose career is based soley on the study of people), he generalizes a lot and doesn't really know much. He didn't know that in the year 2004, calling a guy a boyfriend means he's your gay lover! Come on! He's not a good professor at all!
his class was not essay. I had to write 20 pages of paper. He should be fired. Waste of money. I regretted taking him. He destroyed my GPA. Before I took him, my gpa was 3.5. AFter that, it became 3.1
HORRIBLE! DON'T DO IT! He makes you write a long paper and then scrutinizes it. Not a fair grader at all. Claims everyone plaigarizes. Tests are not too bad, but he doesnt teach! If his Ex and daughter were on the test, I'd have an A! Brings lots of his own beliefs and tries to change yours. RUN!

He is the worst prof. ever. He grades unfairly and makes you write the paper. I handed the paper on time, but never got my grade. On the day of the final he promised to e-mail us our paper grades, but never did. His questions are not from the book. He is horrible nad really unhelpful. I hate him

The bad: Never discusses the book, but tests/assignments are strictly book-based. Tough grader, tough exams. Time-consuming assignments. Not an easy A, a rarety for Soc. The good: fun, interesting old man. Very engaging, makes for a lively class. No ego, can get to know him very well.

I'm a SOC minor and hes the only one teaching 3131, so theres no choice. Just very boring and showed episodes of "Pat Croce: Moving In" instead of teaching, which he never does anyway. Find a better teacher, anyone would be an improvement, even someone off the street. Doesn't give As, mostly Bs.

I took this course expecting to learn about soc and the only I learned was about his life, that is all he talks about. He doesn't teach AT ALL. His tests are all right if you read 5 chapters of the textbook on your own. In the end you have to write a 10pg paper, and you haven't learned anything.
He is really not as bad as people say. Just sit there listen to his life story, bring your significant other to class and you'll get an A. His midterm and final are straight from the book and the only paper is on anything having to do with couples. stop the nonsense he is so easy and talks real.

Don' t even think about it ! This guy is so boring, he talks only about his personal life his wife , ex wife and daughter . Has preference for the "sisters" in his class though. Give pop quizzes to diminish tardiness but teaches very little about sociology. You 'll have a long paper to write which his secretary will correct. Don't count on a A.
I think Majete is very honest and straightfoward. The exams are tricky but u have to read the material on your own. College life isnt about being spoon-fed. I got an A and anyone with dedication can do the same.

Two 15 page papers in one semester. Doesnt discuss material much. Read the Textbook(only way you will learn the material), write his papers, and pass midterm/final and you'll get an A. The papers are very time consuming (total = 30 pages for 1 semester). Overall good discussions.
He gives a midterm, a final and a 15 page paper. He curves the test. In this class you learn more about life lessons then about Sociology. The only way to do well in the class is by reading the textbook. He talks about his family alot. You could fall asleep in his class. The class is a very laid back class.

take his class...easy A...all you have to do write a 15 page paper...and it doesnt even have to be good to get a A...also study for midterm and final the questions are from the textbook...his attendance is easy...just write your name on a piece of paper and then you can leave....or you can stay and listen to his stories about his life...your choice
I had the pleasure of taking professor Majete's class in the spring of 2003. He is an eccentric professor who regularly cursed in class, the only one ever to do so in my experience. He is also very funny and appears to genuinely care about his students. One either loved him or hated him. And I loved him! Sad he is retired.
