Wonderful professor with an odd sense of humor. He explains the lessons very clearly and won't slip in any surprises on his tests. He is quite approachable and doesn't mind clarifying things if you're lost. He also curves generously if the tests are bad.
Boring class, but hey its math. Tests aren't very hard, you just have to definitely study (unless you know the material very well). Really nice, and helps you whenever you ask for it. Very clear and goes through everything thoroughly and doesn't go off-topic. Nice guy too.

this guy sux and he hates it when u ask questions. mainly stands in front of board blocking it and mumbling. when u ask him to explains this is what he says "its obvious that u answer the question like this" then he skips over some steps that he says are obvious. so u end up learning nothing.
Did you ever see Win Ben Stein's Money?....Well just in case picture the guy from the Clear Eyes commercials teaching algebra. Sux don't it? If you ask your self how boring can math get...you have no IdEa.
I found this man hilarious, yes the class was boring but math is never really entertaining, but he's sacarsm was too much. As long as u study for the test you ok cuase they aren't impossible. He always answers questions, especially on problems from the book. Always there for help.

He is very funny... but that didn't help me pass his class... As he wrote notes on the board he'd stay in front of the board so I couldn't see! Sometimes I wish he'd have more problems on the tests so that if you get one worng it wouldn't lowere you grade. Definitely Difficult.
I thought his class was very easy. He teaches well, but he sometimes went fast and usually skipped a few steps, so you have to pay attention. Tests are easy! half is multiple choice, the other you half you show work. He does curve. And tests do come straight from the book. Does not require you to do homework, but it helps. Overall good.
Dude...I was the one who failed the class...yet the man was more lost than I was.
Loved this guy. He explains very good and goes over all the topics with full explanations and examples. His tests come from the book but he picks the hardest ones. Over all, if you study, you are ok.
BORING....
whoever fails this class is stupid.its easy as long as you attend and pay attention.he explains everything step by step and gives plenty of examples.if your bad at math i recommend doing the homework although he doesnt check it.i never did 1 homework problem and im getting A.the guy is nice and funny and always willing to help.juststudyforthe4tests
sarcastic prof. cracks jokes @ 8am. Tests are super tricky but hes willing to help you out. study hard and pay attention. ask lots of questions b/c he sometimes goes really fast. overall though hes a good prof. i just would rather have had him at a later time.
imagine having to face math at 6:30 am. I love this professor. he is very helpful, study and pay attention and you'll pass for sure, he woun't leave anyone behind.
he is very specific when explaining, and is always willing to help. the tests are ok, as long as you study you'll do fine, he doesnt put any surprise questions, he gets the questions from the book but hard ones. i would recommend him
I easily lost interest in the class, his exams are difficult, and he speaks in a monotonous voice. I don't recommend him.
good teacher
He is a very good teacher. he will always try to help you or explain the problems until you get it. everyday he will ask if you have any questions and he is willing to spend time with you helping. You can also go up to him at any time before class and he will sit down and answer any questions you may have.
A satisfactory teacher. Pretty boring, but he tries to add some sarcastic humor every now and then. There are no surprises in the tests, and he might curve them. The material was pretty decent, but it got more difficult towards the end. Sometimes he would block the board and skip some steps. He would answer questions (but not too much).
The worst professor in any subject I have ever had and I have had my taste of bad ones. His tone is monotonous and makes you memorize the trig. functions of all the angles. You can't use a calculator so you spend most of your time memorizing useless material instead of consentrating on the math.
good teacher. not very exciting but its what you make of it. take notes and study adn you will do fine. the test are no surprises but they aren't very many questions so you have to be prepared.
He was probably the worst teacher I have ever had. He did not help me. His voice was so boring. I've never met a person with a monotone voice until I met him. The class itself is achievable...with another professor!!!
This guy is not THAT bad. he's not great, but he tries to explian the best he can. you basically have to go home and concentrate on the material yourself. test are not hard but contan a very little amount of problems, so beware..mess up on one and you're grade can suffer. his voice is boring and his jokes suck, but he's a nice- kinda guy.
Don't be lazy, sit in the front. Do your practice exercises and go to the recitation. That's how you'll pass the class. He's got a monotone voice, but he's nice guy, even funny at times.
This professor is so boring that he puts the class nerd to sleep. Monotone is right..He gives good lectures but they are not enough to pass his test. He is paranoid about students who take the test for someone else so he makes you sign an attendance sheet only on the day of the test. He needs to give more math problems with the solutions
Here's the low down. I'm a 4 time MAC1105 flunkie. This guy will help you if you show interest and study. He's really cool and is very fair on grading. If you are struggling with math, take him. Don't quit mid semester. Stay till the end and he'll give you a hand in passing. Don't miss tests. He's a God send for anyone who puts in the effort
i went to every class and did every assignment and still got a bad grade. the tests were rediculously hard and he did nothing to make it better. take another teacher if possible
So bad at explaining, I taught myself everything. Do not take, even if you are good at math.
Best teacher in the math department. Good luck getting in. He is willin gto help at all times even in class. Very thorough and clear explanations. Strongly recommend him to everyone.
All i can say is this dude sucks! he is a terrible teacher! i doubt he even knows what he is talking about. he has an accent and you cant understand his lectures. He goes way too fast. and you cant see the board! 4 quizes at the beginning of the semester and 2 exams the week of finals! he is crazy and his lectures are useless. good for a nice nap.
Worst teacher ever! Doesnt prepare students for his impossible tests. Is not helpful at all. Extremely Boring to listen to. He gives absolutely no practice problems. Rambles on for the entire class room. LAME JOKES! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER... NOT EVEN TO A GOOD MATH STUDENT!
Stay AWAY from this guy...you will barely pass math if you do...Im a 3.5GPA dude and this guy has me almost failing a class for the first time in my life. Explains OK, monotonous voice, but exams are HARD, IMPLOSSIBLE to hi more than a D+/C...run away, get another teacher!!!!
I loved this guy...even though he puts you to sleep. Hes easy, helpful and very understanding. He grades test very lenient...One time he forgot to grade on of my problems, I went back, he graded my problem and gave me a new grade which i didnt expect. He's a very nice man...don't pay mind to people who say he sucks cuz hes very nice.!
I have taken this professor and he only has 4 test (including the final) to evaluate, and they are HARD. I barely passed the first 2 with a C, failed the 3rd (which he replaces the worse grade with the final's) and still failed the class. This is my first F I have ever gotten...from a C to an F. Horrible! he does not CURVE either.Take another prof!
A bit of an odd guy. Monotone voice, needs to spend a little less time lecturing and a lot more time giving actual examples. Wouldn't recommend taking this class at all, especially if you are not math inclined like myself.
MONOTONE!!! o my god, it was a snoozefest! its an auditorium class so that sucks. If your bad at math, this guy is not for you!
Well he wasn't a horrible teacher...i got a C+ but i probably would have done better if i didn't miss so much class towards the end. If you take him just attend every class and if you need help ask him, he will be more than happy to help.
The best math professor that you can hope for. Gives great, NEAT notes and lectures and breaks it down for you nice and easy. He is also very funny. He's great! Highly recommended.
Awesome professor. He is NOT monotone; he just has some dry humor to entertain students because he knows the material itself is dull so you can't blame him for trying. He's super nice and won't give you attitude or nothing. His notes and lectures are great and you will hope he was your math professor for every math class you will ever have to take!
The teacher is helpful, but the class is pretty hard there are 3 quizs and two test study hard because there are not easy!
I took him for the summer and I never went to class I went the first week of class and only showed up on test dates afterwards. I studied on my own with the book and managed to get a decent grade. His classes are boring, but HE DOES HELP!! he is super nice, just make sure he knows who you are and show him you are trying and you'll be ok.
do not reccomend! very hard, not helpful, VERY MONOTONE, and does not care about his students. no reviews for tests and the tests cover WAY too much information. i had to drop... and i tried very hard!
He is an ok teacher but the class was hard. He gave good notes and lectures, but the tests were tricky some times. If you could find a better teacher try one, but if not he's ok.
This is my opinion... by reading the comments about him on this website, i expected him to be boreing and i thought " well he must not be THAT bad. How can math be fun". But trust me, you dont know boreing until you take this class!! I had to drop because i just couldnt stay awake!! Plus, his tests are very hard, and he is not too helpful...
very funny, easy learning .....but his tests have like 5 questions so if you get 1 wrong you can say goodbye to getting an A, if you get 2 wrong, gg
Teacher is decent enough. He makes things pretty clear while teaching. He uses the textbook but you are not required to get it or bring it to class. His homework is basically what he goes over in class. But he IS monotone. He tries to make little jokes, but usually ends up chuckling by himself.
awesome professor, explains very clear, good sense of humor, gives 5 tests and a final and drops lowest grade
He teaches you what you need to know. Makes weird jokes and comments. Very monotone. I hated this class but if you read the syllabus and teach yourself then you can pass with a high grade. 5 exams and one final.
Basically study on your own and show up for the tests. If you really struggle with math it wont be in your best interest to have him.
Do not take him for Pre-Calculus. Especially if you are not familiar with trig and functions. He does not prepare you at all for the tests and puts the hardest ones on them. It's impossible to reach him, he doesn't answer his emails. His lectures are pretty much just him going on the board and doing examples. He made Pre-Calc worse than it reallyis
Very nice person, and respectful, (Very Boring do). If you're dedicated and pretty much study on your own, and have a HUGE base in Algebra, take him; if NOT, do not waste your time, he does not explain you a thing, of course, after going Super Fast through a whole chapter or two, he asks the class if there are questions...what are you going to ask
He's monotone. I dropped the class. Didnt understand anything. Had him for FINITE MATH.
Horrible professor. Does not teach, reads off a powerpoint. Take him if you can teach yourself math because he doesn't.
If you can teach yourself, then he is the perfect teacher. If you require direction from a teacher, he is not the one. He gives NO type of direction for tests, including the final. But he does have a unique humor, and at least he is cool.
I wouldn't say he's a bad professor, however, His tests are extremely difficult and there is not enough time to finish, he doesn't give extra credit and you grade is based on 5 tests + the final. Super Hard for a Finite Math class. I would take an easier teacher to assure the A
This guy is horrible. I failed his class with an F. When i asked him during the semester if there is anything i could do to bring up my grade his answer was study. He makes alot of stupid non funny jokes especially about Shaq. He is very boring and doesnt teach. You might as well look for another teacher. For god sakes his name is Cleveland.
This professor is semi-clear in his teaching. The problem is that he does not really care whether or not you pass. No curve no extra credit. Also, he gives no review at all let alone mention there is going to be a test the coming class. He just assumes you remember. The final was supposed to cumilative, it ended up being on mostly 3 chapters.
you have to teach yourself by doing the homework assignments, even then the test will have 2 confusing questions worth enough to bring you down 40% on the test. Does not respond to emails. If hes the only one available and its a must just study hard and make sure you attend all classes and keep up with the homework. about 2/3 my class dropped.
Dreadful professor whose class consists of reading off powerpoints.Extremely difficult tests with few questions, so 3 wrong gives you D or F. Terrible sense of humor and does not respond to emails. Voice puts you to sleep, majority of class not passing. Doesn't give credit to those students who go to class. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!
UGH, THANK GOD IT'S OVER! Anyway, he's really very boring, and I can't say much about his teaching method, because I didn't show up to class most of the time! 5 exams (15% of your grade), 1 final (35% of your grade) He replaces the lowest exam grade with the final so do well on it. You WILL have to teach yourself. Good luck staying awake & passing.
His tests are very very hard, i ended up with a c+ in his class...I followed into calculus and then calculus 2 with both A's , dont take this guy..I feel like I didnt learn anything at all and ive been cheated with this c+, i took him for precalc...just avoid him if possible
Great teacher but it is math. I love it but the facts are the facts. Half the class dropped out by the end of the semester.
I love this class. Taylor is very helpful and has a great sense of humor. I learned Alot in jus a few short weeks and he motivates me to study. The tests are hard but studying the material covered within 24hours after having class should help you. it helped me. Hello its math, you have to study
Horrible professor. Monotone voice and hard exams. Acing calc I and II, the C from this class still haunts my transcript.
I dropped this class after a month or so, but from what i can remember it is a reaaaallllyyy boring class. He's not a very friendly guy and you can tell does not like to teach or care for his students at all. Going to class will be a PAIN. I don't recommend this class if your counting on a helpful professor. Oh and tests aren't that hard.
Worst professor I've had at FIU. Teaches (and by teaches I mean reads) math off of a power point presentation. Explanations are not detailed. Take it if you can teach yourself math from the textbook.
ZOMG!!!!!!NO FAX MACHINES :O!hate this class. Zzzzzzz
If math is your weakest subject and you aren't able to pass exams with a self-taught method, DO NOT take this professor. His teaching consisted of a few exercises (which he did halfheartedly because you could tell he was annoyed whenever he had to help you) and he did not reply to any emails for assistance or even offer guidance on what the final w
This guy has a voice that is a cross between bartok the bat from the movie anastasia and the clear eyes guy. He's not helpful in the least and if you can't learn math from a book on your own you're screwed. It is kind of funny though that he has a grand total of 3 polo shirts and tells you not to bring in fax machines.
STAY AWAY! It is not just a hard class, it's an impossible one. The recommended exercises from the book have nothing to do with the tests; which are extremely difficult. Your whole grade is based on 4 tests (which you don't have enough time to finish) and final.
He is really a terrible teacher. Never learned anything and made it feel like it was never worth it to sign up for his class. BIG HUGE waste of money. Oh and i arrived late for final, told me to leave. He's very not caring about his students. Doesnt care if you pass or fail. No student interaction. my suggestion:look for another math teacher!!!
Run. Far, far away. Look, he's not a bad guy or anything, but unless you can teach yourself, you're not going to pass. I've always had A's in math classes and I BARELY passed with a C. I'm still trying to figure out what happened. What he does in class isn't what's on the test. If you can't avoid taking him, get a tutor. Monotone.
cool teacher, just like to do assignments his way and not like the book. Class participation makes class fun, otherwize can be very boring.
Very boring. Not very clear with the material. Not very helpful. Attendance is not mandatory so it's hard to motivate yourself to come to class because it's so BORING. The tests are passable if you keep up with the material but some of it is difficult. If math is just not your subject, don't take this professor!
Unless you can self-teach from a math book, your gonna do badly. He puts notes on microsoft word, projects them onto a wall, then reads the notes word for word, only occasionally using pathetic examples to TRY and look like he is explaining something. And he is very monotone.
MONOTONE!
took for precalc 2 years ago..i say him walking the campus today and brought back bad memories..i got a c+ in his class,I followed by 5 A's in calculus 1-2-3,diff.equations, linear alg. ..He sucks. no fax machines allowed
he's super booooring, you should go to class but you dont have to, but if your not gonna go follow on your own with the book, snores!!!!!!!!!
I was in College Algebra for this guy and I hated every minute of it. I tried to study but the book questions were totally different from his test questions. He was rude when I asked for help, and he stood in the way of his "notes" while he wrote them. FLEE AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!!!!!! TAKE AT YOUR OWN RISK...
he does the class with a ti-83 making it the easiest calculus course u can take. He gives no c-. get 70 and u pass. plenty of exams. no curving! maybe 5 points if the entire class does horrible. Exams are easy, basic stuff. what he teaches in class, is whats on the exam. so come to class. no powerpoint presentations anymore. no quizzes. a bit lazy.
Good teacher. Cares about his students, the only downside is like people said he is pretty monotone. Hes a pretty good professor, I would recommend him.
This guy is very nice. Corny jokes, but sometimes funny. Teaches very well in my opinion. Cool Accent. Easy Tests, I don't know why people are complaining about them. For my class he had 10 multiple choice worth 3 each, then 5 Working out problems worth 70 points. Easy grader. I would recommend him if you are decent in Math and want an A/B easily..
You better consider another class unless you're okay with teaching yourself. This man uses a projector and quickly rushes through his notes as if you know what he is talking about. So unless you don't mind learning by yourself, then I would not rec. this class. Four quizzes, a midterm and final and that's your only grades. No extra credit. Nada.
He's not a bad teacher but the material is not exactly simple if you're not good at math. 4 exams + final. no homework and no ways to bring up your grade. if you pay attention to his lectures and get some tutoring you can pass.
His tests are ridiculously impossible. The book is easier to understand than his lectures. He does not explain, goes very fast, and assumes everyone is at his level. There is no way you will pass unless you were born only knowing finite math. There is no extra credit, no extra nothing. He should go back to Dade or Cleveland?
This professor is useless! He does not EXPLAIN ANYTHING CLEARLY,& GOES TOO FAST THROUGH THE STUPID MICROSOFT WORD NOTES. His test are WAY too hard for what he teaches, AND NOTHING from what he teaches is actually on the test! He tests you on a WHOLE chapter and the quiz is 5 questions. DO NOT TAKE HIM WORST MISTAKE OF LIFE
You really have to teach yourself everything, he never gives review packets, and the reviews he does in class are not that helpful. He doesnt seem to be concerned about how you do at all, not veyr helpful when you approach him. Quizzez are very difficult even if you study. A ton of my friends have to retake the class. if you can avoid him.

his tests have nothing to do with what he teaches in class
The problem is thathe doesn't have office hours.
I don't even know what to say. I failed this class and I don't know why. I don't know if it's because he was a bad teacher or if I'm just bad at math, all I know is that a lot of people did bad in his class. Try to get a better teacher if you can. Otherwise he's pretty funny, his tests are just ridiculous.
Do not be fooled by the first test (I got a 95) then everything turned into a nightmare. I ended up with a C in the class...dreadfull!! I had a 4.o before his class
Doesn't really TEACH.
The class is not hard, but the tests are a bit weird. Do not be fooled by the first test (I got a 95)...TRUST ME IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. The class is okay, but if you want an A take someone else. Good luck!
not a good teacher at all. don't take his class he puts trick questions on tests to mess you up. females: you might pass his class if you show up everyday with a lowcut shirt on.
Worst instructor for math. Had him before for a algebra class. Tried again for mad 1100 because I had no choice. That was a big mistake on my part.
Do not take this guy. Bad professor, i just stopped showing up to class, tests are hard and doesnt explain things well. If you dont have to take him... DONT! oh and when i went to take the final, i was 10 minutes late..and told me i could not take the exam! Needless to say..-_-
Awful professor. FIU should be ashamed to employ such garbage.
Please DO NOT take this professor. Not only is he not helpful when you ask for help, but he makes his test irrevelant to what he teaches. Do not takes his class if you are not good at math you will end up dropping it or with a low grade and you will spend most if not all of the time teaching yourself the material.
This guy is by far the worst teacher i have ever had he is boring and uninformative you will need to be amazing at math if you want any chance of passing as I have spent alot of time teaching myself with the equally useless book
Horrible teacher youll be dumb to take him
This is the worst math professors I've ever had! he doesnt teach you! All he does is copy from paper in his hand, and doesnt explain what hes writing. He expects you to know what hes doing on board. He is the worst! ohh and dont waste your time asking him a question, because your not going to understand the answer. He just doesnt know how to explai
Ok, so no one is exaggerating. He really is horrible. He doesn't teach, only a few test but hard. He doesn't give homework or anything else to help your grade. If you can teach yourself everything then take it, if not DON'T. He doesn't teach. Take this class and the tutoring center will be your best friend. DO NOT TAKE HIM !
Attendance is a must for this class. He is willing to answer quetions during or after class. Unless you are a math genius you need a tutor, or you must do all of your homework. If you can take someone else, take someone else. If this is the only thing that fits into your schedule get a tutor and hope you pass.
this man is such a drag! his sarcasm is not funny! if you can learn from the book, it just might be useful. BUT i warn you! his tests have nothing to do with the book! just DONT GET HIM! EPIC FAIL!
This guy might be the worst math teacher i ever had. Ive had some bad teacher but this one is another thing. He really just read the book outloud in class(sounds like a monotone.) avoid him
I have this teacher and he really confuses me.I end just copying notes that I do not understand. I resort to learning from the book which is like 100% better than the way he teaches. So, if you learn better by using the book, then it's ok. But, either way, I still don't recommend him.
In terms of teaching he did try, his explanations were okay but always had to be supplemented with the book. I just stopped going to class and learned it all on my own. You don't have to buy the book but you honestly should. His tests are a lot easier than other teachers for MGF 1106 trust me!
I dont understand why so many people thought he was so bad. he was very monotone, but i always understood what he was saying. I actually learned alot in his class. All you have to do is show up to the lectures, and you will do fine on the tests. there are only like 4, and he gives extra points!!
he's not a bad guy he really isn't.. at least he tries. but its true after the first week, most of my class stopped showing up (280+ people). i have caught myself falling asleep many times. he gives you 4 quizes, and 2 tests. he also drops the lowest grade. I took his final today and half of the stuff on there, he didn't even teach. don't take him.
I went to all the lectures and didn't understand anything. I just sat there and took notes for nothing. Most people cheated on his final, they had notes hidden in their scrap paper. I would not take him again.
Listen to me I had a 4.0 prior to taking his class and he ruined my gpa. Do not take him, again do not take him! I went to class everyday did all the hw and it was pointless. He gives no curves even if the whole class fails. The final is 50% of your grade and it is cumulative and he gives no reviews. He does not answer questions.
The class started off as 300 and half dropped and the other half never came to class. His class is all test. No homework, extra credit. If you want to fail.. take him. Go ahead. HORRIBLE. RUNNN ! sucks
took him for finite math and ended up with like a B or B-... you really have to go to class, do all the assignment and actually try.... he is monotone and at times doesnt explain really well... goodluck
Most of the comments about this teacher are regarding the subject, rather than the man. He gives it his all for his students, and regularly helps those outside of class hours. I will say he does have a dry sense of humor which can be a super snooze combo when mixed with math. Also, he doesn't curve, your grade depends on how much you practice!
This guy has to be the worst teacher in history. I failed it and I have always been a decent math student. He rudely interrupts you when you ask a question and curves NO TEST !! His class is based only on those ridiculously hard tests! I cannot believe they can allow such a person to teach. GET ANOTHER TEACHER !!!!!!!!!!!
You'll probably have to teach yourself the material. I had to teach myself everything off the book. He explains things, but it's tough to learn from just the lectures.
You will have to teach yourself! He does not write on the board or solve any problems in class. His lectures are typed almost word for word like they are in the book and just projected so that you can write while he is talking about something completely different. His lectures are useless and his test are difficult and not from the book or lectures
He types all his lectures clearly and puts them on a big projector and explains each one. Yes, the subject is hard, but he does try his best to teach it. No sense of humor though. He doesn't allow a calculator on 80% of his tests :( and makes you memorize a whole bunch of things. I'm torn between like and dislike of this class and the teacher.
He's probably the worst teacher FIU can hire. He is super boring and wants to fail you. His lectures are nothing on what the test is on. You have to study from the book and the quizzes are impossible. The only good thing i guess is that the class isnt mandatory. He tries to be funny but hes not. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING ANY CLASS WITH TAYLOR!
Overall, I think he is an okay teacher. This class does not require attendance but it definitely helps and requires plenty of time for studying. His quizes are challenging, so you MUST study. you wont be able to pull your grade up with hw, he doesn't grade it. He is nice and approachable, but is a sloowww speaker really boring at 8 am lol
If you are not a huge fan of studying, dont take this class. You are going to have to teach yourself EVERYTHING
He's really nice, but not the best when it comes to explaining things. His tests are impossible, and have nothing to do with the things he teaches in class. Extremely mono toned and slow. Honestly, don't take a class with him unless you absolutely need to.
Unless you are very good at teaching yourself, I do not recommend taking his class. He has a microphone that he barely uses so you can't hear him. He doesn't give homework so it's either pass the quizzes or you're failing. Once again unless you plan on teaching yourself each lesson after class, take another teacher for Finite. SERIOUSLY!!!
He's only Social Math professor I've been able to pass. Don't miss class and take good notes. There are four exams (three sections and one cumulative) and they are very simple and to the point. No stupid definitions or other fillers. All of your answers are in the notes/examples.
THIS IS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. I went to every class, wrote down all the notes, but still managed to fail all the quizzes even after teaching the material to myself since he doesn't do a good job of it. If math is not your forte DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!! This class ruined my gpa and is way TOO hard.
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had In my life. I'm taking Pre-calculus with him and I pretty much have to teach myself everything from the book. He speaks in a monotone voice which makes it seem close to impossible to understand him; And his tests are usually short and have nothing to do with what we learned in class. GOOD LUCK.
HORRIBLE. he's nice, but he can not teach. he doesn't explain things very well, and I had to either teach myself the lesson, or get a statistics teacher from my HIGH SCHOOL to teach me how to do everything. I ignored the bad rating on ratemyprofessor and it was the worst decision ever. I had such a difficult time in this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
This prof is in the wrong field. He should teach philanthropy. He gives a lot of homework (that is worth very little) If you dont do the homework you can't take the quiz. As if that wasn't enough, he gives out 4 test of 4 Qs each, so you better know your stuff! Wont take him ever again, there're better ways to learn.
This class isn't super hard, especially since you're allowed to use a graphing calculator on the exams. The problem is that this man doesn't know how to teach it...AT ALL! If you do choose to take MGF1106 with Taylor, don't even bother attending class. Just go to all the Clutch exam reviews and STUDY. That's how I passed.
DONT TAKE HIM!!! i dont understand anything that he teaches and i learned it the year before. i promise it is more interesting to watch paint dry
DO NOT TAKE. I took the class in highschool and passed it with an A. I had to drop out of this class because I was failing. He simply reads out of power point slides and does not explain anything well. He says sarcastic jokes that only confuse the students more. Take someone else!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! TRUST ME!!! He is not a good teacher. Actually he doesnt even teach. He points at his notes on a projector. This man was not meant for teaching. He should became something else. NOT A TEACHER. Plus he doesnt even curve or give extra credit. take someone else. Good luck.
WORST TEACHER. Do not take him if you want to pass. He does not explain anything or TEACH anything. Only reads out of his projector. Very sarcastic and spends his time saying jokes (not funny) 4 tests of 4-5 questions each, no extra credit, no curving. DO NOT TAKE!!
You will hear a lot about the "probability pizza" and many other funny phrases he has coined. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the subjects he is teaching about. The lectures are long, and quite boring. Study like crazy before the tests. I took both Finite and Soc. Choice with him and got A's in both. Just do not slack and take lots of notes
He is extremely monotone and filled with dry humor. I went to a few of the classes in the beginning of the semester, but then found them useless, since I couldn't understand anything he said and he really didn't explain anything. I ended up teaching myself the stuff from the book and only going to class when there's a test.
DO NOT TAKE. Worst teacher I have had. You are going to have to teach yourself everything if you want to pass. I got a D+ for the first time in my life, I had never failed a class before. He is not helpful and is incomprehensible. The class is too big and he doesn't care about students. Math classes should not be at all like his.
The thing with Taylor, is that he's a math genius. He expects us to be prepared with basic math knowledge. If you don't have a strong math background you will have to work hard. Like tutoring, studying. When I took him I noticed he wants his students to pass, because he always sent us study guides and some problems on the tests were very similar.
The class is NOT hard. The test questions are NOT hard. The reason people fail is because they make silly mistakes. The tests are 4/5 questions so if you mess up you're done. There is no extra credit. If you do not have a solid background in math do not take him. I barely got an A in the class and I had a perfect SAT math score.
I loved this class. He made it very easy to learn the subject, but when I didn't understand something he allowed us to ask questions. The tests had 4-5 questions and they were fairly easy if you paid attention in class. Lots of online homework, but they're pretty easy. Great teacher! Just pay attention and come to class!
DO NOT take this class! Finite Math could be so easily learned if it wasn't for this terrible teacher. Out of 200 people in my class probably 20 showed up because of how monotone and dry he was with the material. 60% of the class had to retake it, and I got a C+ because I had tutoring. If i were only depending on his teachings, I would have failed.
Took this class summer of freshman year. failed with flying colors and I'm not bad at math. horrible accent, lack of clarity, not a great chance of passing because of lack of classwork, hw, etc. BE WARNED!!!
He is a very lazy professor. He only counts test grades, so he doesn't have to take attendance or check for students class input. the only thing he does is grade the tests. They only have 4 examples so if you miss one you are already n a low C.I have to retake the class but obviously not with him. Not recommended at all.
NOOOO!!!! Just no. Whatever you do DO NOT PICK HIS CLASS. It's like trying to learn rocket science in Japanese with him. He does not explain. No hw no class work just 5 quizzes. If you do take this class you better find a tutor.
If you have a question, he will answer it (albeit in a convoluted way). Besides that, he has pre-written and typed notes which I did not find helpful to understanding the material. He seldom works out problems by hand and moves swiftly through notes.
Do not take this professor. This is a precal and trigonometry course, It's not easy but it shouldn't be this difficult. There are a total of 4 tests and one cummulutive final. I'm good at math but even getting 100% on all the cummulative homework(supposed to resemble test questions) I have somehow been failing. Do not take if you care for your gpa.
He's a nice guy but he doesnt fit into the category of being a "good professor." I failed every test and I can honestly say it isnt because im bad at math. Its better to avoid taylor because you will just end up losing money or lowering your gpa. A Waste of two months in that class!. Good thing I dropped.
If you are fairly confident with your math skills, then take his class. It's NOT hard. The material is quite easy. The only downfall is that you have about 3-4 tests with ONLY 4 questions. That does not give enough leverage for simple mistakes. I had a high Sat score and liked math, but his tests are poorly designed. Not recommended
DO NOT TAKE HIM! I read through these comments and decided to take him anyway because it fit into my schedule, but that was the worse decision. The way he explains things are so confusing, and I am pretty good in math. I had to learn everything through the math textbook and MathMabsPlus online. Then the tests only has 4 questions. HORRIBLE!
Very good teacher. He's a bit monotone, but it's really not that bad. His first quiz and exam 3 are easy. Study really hard for quizzes 2-4 and the final. You don't need the book, but IT REALLY HELPS YOU A LOT. Also, seek a tutor if you're not good at math. He gives reviews, which are helpful and he gives you a lot of chances. Great guy and teacher
Save yourself trouble. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! There has to be better professors.
I do not recommend this teacher. I didnt read these reviews before hand read them after and everyone else says the same thing Im about to say. If you are a perfectionist and know what you are doing before the class take it, if not do not try to take it. 4 test questions which aren't covered in the online review and very monotone
This is supposed to be the easiest math class at FIU according to advisors, that being said, he makes it the complete opposite. His class seems fun at first, then you notice you didn't learn anything and fail his tests with F's of 50%. And he is never available for office hours. If you need to take this class DO NOT CHOOSE HIM!!
Ruined my semester taking this professor. WILL answer questions, but will explain them in a way so utterly baffling, it leaves you with more questions. Exams and Final only have 8 questions total and he gives partial credit but takes off points for literally everything, you'll be lucky to score high enough to pass since 85% of grade is from exam.
He is the worst teacher. He doesn't even "teach" he reads off notes he probably copied and paste off the internet since they don't make sense. Since he has his own notes I doubt he knows what math is. No wonder he is in adjunct on the school's website. HE IS BAD
Horrible. On several occasions he would mess up either halfway through explanation or towards the end, so once you've think you've got it down its all wrong. its better not to listen to him and just learn form the textbook. He makes up his on tests and its very different then what he goes over in class and on the homework
Extremley easy teacher and extremley easy class. Only attended 3 days which were test days, never bought the book and never attended lecture and I got a B. This finite math class is worth it
Amazing professor, ALWAYS IN A GOOD MOOD!!! explains from a power points and does not hesitate to explain again the problem. Very fair grading and exams are fair. Remember that in math you must study and revise a lot! TAKE HIM, HE IS GREAT.
Took this class Fall 2012. Really difficult. Four exams and a final. He is boring and monotone. If you can take this class with someone better please do so.
Terrible professor! He is too smart for his own good, can't explain things in a way for everyone to understand. One of the worst professors I have had at FIU. I was very disappointed with this class. I'm a great student and I failed!
Dry Humor Lots of Dry Humor Not Very Helpful Test Only Had 4 Questions. Do Not Take
Three tests, and one cumulative final. He reviews before tests (except for the final), which helps a lot. They are pretty much the same problems with different numbers. My notes got damaged, so he emailed me previous notes. He uses definitions straight from the book, and uses the same examples. HW isn't mandatory.
Pretty simple class. Professor is very helpful and will share his notes up on request. A little boring and you may want to read over the notes. no reason to fail this class.
He is incredibly boring. this was my first class of the day and it was a horrible start. he goes pretty fast and does not wait for you to understand anything, quizzes are not too impossible, but good luck with the tests. do not recommend this teacher at all.
Great professor, I don't know why he has such bad reviews, took this class summer B 2014. He gave out 3 test and 1 final, he didn't assigned mandatory homework, but gave suggested exercises to practice. Final test was a little hard.
This class was said to be one of the easiest in FIU for non science majors. I got a C+ by a miracle. Going to class is pointless because he literally reads notes and rereads it if someone is having troubles. He would not explain in any other way. Studying on your own is the way you should go, and don't waste your money on the textbook.
He's an awesome professor and captivates you from day one with incredibly engaging topics. Students say he reads off his notes, and he does, but they are his own he has used for years. He gives you the questions to his midterm and final and chooses 3 of the same questions he gave you and you pick one to answer! Not an intellectual terrorist!
I hated this guy. During his lectures, he would just go through the motions and do the problems without adequately explaining what is being done. For the last 3 tests, I had no idea what I was doing even though I went to the lectures. He doesn't give any assignments aside from the test, which made it hard to practice. Do not take! Trust me!
This professor's lectures are not helpful. He teaches as though he is reciting the text book word for word. He does not seem to know how to further breakdown content when he is asked. If math is not second nature to you, he is NOT your guy. He progresses based on the one or two students who shout out answers, leaving the majority behind.
Before taking the class I was very hesitant because of the reviews on this website. But I'm so glad I took the class because its honestly not difficult, all the material you have learned in high school and if you pay attention you will do fine. He is open to questions and love when you ask them. I did great and I was very worried about the class.
He's a cool guy, but not the best professor. Most of the assignments are online at mylabsplus, that will save your life! He's teaching gets kinda confusing at times, but the concepts aren't that hard. There are 4 exams and the final, and a bunch of homework assignments online, but he gives you the whole week to do it. He's a nice guy, pretty funny
First things first, I'm horrible at math so I knew this class was going to be a hard one to pass. I failed the first test because I didn't study, but I spoke to professor Taylor about it and he helped me out a lot. This class isn't hard, you just have to study and understand the concepts. Taylor has your best interest at heart.
his voice will make you fall sleep, his classes are so boring.
Taylor's voice is monotone and boring and he really confuses students more then helping them. The good news is that the material is easy (I'm not very good at math) and rarely attended, the class is mostly online, but he does take attendance everyday. Overall if you're ok on your own you should definitely take this class.
Very monotone professor who uses power points to lecture that are not his own. They're from the textbook. He doesn't do anything beside read what is on the PowerPoint and hence not explain anything. He takes attendance every class. He's an easy grader though and the material is easy. You can get an A if you study on your own.
Professor Taylor is GREAT! He is always willing to help. You have to do your part in taking notes, but he is very good at explaining everything and going over everything slowly to make sure you understand it. He really wants his students to do well.
If you want to fail a math course, by all means take this professor. He is a very kind person, but certainly does not know how to teach. He teaches with powerpoints from the textbook that are incorrect most of the time. He only reads through the powerpoints and does NOT work out any problems what so ever.
Professor Cleveland is an amazing professor. He does have a monotone voice but deals with it by making jokes which make the class go by really fast. He goes by the powerpoints and makes sure you understand each slide. His tests are a bit tough but he did give a make up test for the class if you got below a certain grade. Would take him again!
He is a nice person but by far the WORST math teacher I've ever had. His teaching skills are poor and his voice is monotone. Don't take his class! I regret it a lot!
He is a good professor. He has an accent so it is difficult to understand him sometimes but you eventually get used to it. He tries to make jokes, some of which are funny. :) He uses a powerpoint to teach, which he provides for you online, but he also does written examples for you on the board. I would recommend taking his class.
He's a nice man but does not know how to teach at all! He strictly read from these power points that were horribly made and then gave questions on the tests that were not what he went over at all. Horrible wording on tests!
Prof. Cleveland is great. He's class can be easily passed by learning to do the practice exercises which are identical to the test questions. He's monotone voice can be bothersome but all over a very easy class to pass. Very smart gentleman.
He's and awesome teacher. he reviews every type of question and shows you how to approach the answers i different ways. he uses the digital projector and writes out the questions as he teaches and goes step by step. Kind of monotone but awesome teacher. Make sure to do the homework though. he pulls the exam questions directly from the review q's
He's terrible. He has some sort of obsession with everything being neat so he takes off stupid points if your equal signs aren't aligned with the other equal signs in the problem. He should skip teaching math& go teach a class on how to be neat because that's all he cares about. He explains the lecture by copying problems from the book, not helpful.
The teacher does the notes and goes it over very slowly in the extended class, he takes questions and is not afraid to re-explain something. The homework is optional but the tests come from the homework! As long as you go to class, participate and do the homework passing is no problem! You will look at the test, and go through it in a beat!
He gives notes in class everyday and has suggested exercises on the syllabus. The class consists of 4 tests and a final. He drops the lowest test from the first 3 you take. All his test are based on the problems he does in class or suggests on the syllabus. If you do all the problems on the syllabus you will pass the class!
Although homework is not mandatory, doing the homework is what made me pass the class. I honestly showed up to the actual class about 4-5 times all semester and would just show up for test days. I just got all my teaching from the tutoring center because professor Taylor is very boresome. Very monotone voice and lame jokes galore. Don't pick an 8am
Professor Taylor is amazing! I am horrible in Calculus and he goes super slow, step by step and even reviews the algebra. Try to take the extended class if you are bad at math. 4 Tests and a final, Test ARE HW Questions, some of which are covered in class! This class is difficult but Prof. Taylor REALLY helps! Recommend 100%. A really good Prof.
Worse teacher I ever had. His tests are exactly how he says they are though
Great Professor. He made the class very easy to pass. Homework is not mandatory but he gets all the test questions from the homework so if you want to do well I suggest you do the homework. He goes over everything in class and answers all your questions.
The professors a nice guy, but honestly terrible teacher. He makes funny jokes which is the only thing you actually remember after leaving class. the lectures are pointless, you can get the information by basically reading the textbook. I have a B in the class because of tutoring and study groups, I recommend taking it with another teacher.
He is by far the worst math professor I have ever had. He doesn't know what he's doing or how to teach, he just copies problems from the book and rewrites it on a sheet of paper. For my section he just showed notes he wrote earlier that day. Didn't bother to go through the problem with us and expected us to just absorb all the steps written
This professor only teaches you what will be on his exams. He gives you a review and drops 1 out of the first 3 exams. test 4 is the hardest. the final is cumulative. I finished with a B but I really did study on my own. His lectures arent difficult to understand but you must go over the material on your own. He also gives alot of partial credit.
If you can, dont take this guy, the way mac2233 is set up at fiu is as a boot camp. You either got it or you dont, you will need to study a lot, his lectures are quite boring but easy to follow. Attendence is mandatory? Was never made clear. Very monotonous tone... Graded only by tests, he drops lowest of first 3, out of 4. Good Luck
Professor Cleveland does not explain anything at all. He looks at everyone for a couple of minutes and writes a problem from the book and then expects you to know what it is. I have never got such a low grade for a class before, and I had to study everything on my own. Horrible experience. If you want to challenge yourself & struggle, take hin.
Hes honestly fine enough. Hes as boring as it gets, but if you take all of the notes he puts on the board, and study them a lot, youll be fine. I did all of the homework (which is optional), but got much more help from the notes. There are 4 tests, and a final. His grading is honestly pretty leanate, and gives a lot of partial credit.
Professor Taylor is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. His business calculus class was excellent, but you need to be ready to ask questions. I do not recommend an early morning class with him. His class consists of 5 tests. Of the first 3, the lowest is dropped. The 4th and the 5th are mandatory. ALWAYS DO THE HOMEWORK!!!!!!!
i recommend this professor for summer if you want to drop the class, good day
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I'm telling you now, if you are not good in math, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. I cannot stress this enough. He's a tough grader, talks low most of the time and his tests are extremely difficult. So even if you think you want to take it just because the time fits perfect into your schedule, don't. He will not help you either.
Honestly 1st time I took him, I failed. Then my advisor recommended to take it again with him since I knew his style, then I had to DROP because it wasn't going anywhere. I do not know why he still teaches this course. I have never had a problem with math and yet this class was the WORST EVER. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
SUPER EXCELLENT PROFESSOR. Stop complaining and make an effort. Look in a mirror if you find him so tough. Took him at both MDC and FIU. By far the most knowledgeable Prof in his field. Hopefully still teaches.
