Do not take this class with him unless you like to read a TON.Gives way too much work, horrible pop quizes, tests are essay style.Class material is really not that bad but they way he tries to teach does not work, its like he is trying to prove some point by making the class super hard when really it shouldnt be.But does sometimes let you out early.
One of the best professors i have had throughout my college career. very helpful with each individual in the class. gives lots of work but it helps to complete later tasks. DEFINATELY take his classes.

The class is tough but Prof. Scott explains the theories very clearly and provides a ton of examples to try and relate. Pop quizzes are kind of a downer, tests are multiple choice. You HAVE to read in order to pass the tests. He has a very dry sense of humor. Some classes are boring but in general he's pretty good at keeping your attention
The class is difficult but the teacher was terrific. He was very helpful both in and outside of class. He was really passionate about the material and had a great sense of humor. The tests are difficult but reading and reviewing will help.
Egoist. Not at all helpful.
Very nice guy. He talks a lot. Do the readings and you will do just fine in the classes. Tests have a lot of book stuff on them. Good teacher to take!!
He is an amateur, needs to learn to communicate with the student like a prfoessor. Does not want to help students
pop quizzes can hurt your grade, unless ur getting perfect scores. He's a very passionate teacher though & taught the subject very well. But u must READ the book thoroughly.
NOT GOOD
Knows material very well and could be a good professor except I think he has a mission to make his class as hard as possible. I understand the assignments and the essay-form tests help you study more, but there is no need to verbally discourage your students from succeeding. Don't bother asking for help, he'll make you feel like an idiot via emai
Dr. Scott is a great instructor, yes he's tough, but he did a good job keeping a boring subject (org comm) interesting. Do the reading. Then do the reading again, and you'll be OK.
In my top 3 favorite professors.
I had to have this class in order for me to declare my major for this semester. Just know that he DOES NOT CURVE...ever. He expects you to read and his pop quizes..rediculous..and his test...just buy a lot of notecards..thats all I have to say
awesome teacher. comm 2100 is very difficult and time consuming class and he does a great job of relating the material to a college students life. he gives hard test questions and pop quizes but beside that he definitely makes the material understandable, its up to you to study.
I feel as though he is the type of teacher that is NOT interested if his students pass or fail. I did attend class faithfully and did do the reading as stated in his syllabus that would help a student achieve a satisfactory grade. His study guides were useless!!! We were told he DID NOT have time to meet with us one on one. STAY AWAY if possible.
Read....understand the book and know how to apply the information - memorizing the terms will not be enough....Responds well to emails for questions you may have and def. go to SI if offered.
I went to EVERY SI session. Read the book, studied my butt off more for this class than any other I've ever had. I recieved a 60 on the first exam after studying 2 hours a day every day for a week before the test. I got an 84 on the 2nd exam by following the study guide better and received a 60 on the final after studying 3-7 hours 5 days prior.
I had Quinlan the 1st time I took Comm. Theory.. Failed with flying colors. Took Scott and Passed with a C to declare. They make Comm Theory hard to weed out people. Study STUDY STUDY...!!!!! Read over his study guides and know EVERYTHING about the topics. He explains everything clear. All Comm theory courses are hard.. no matter what teacher.
Dr. Scott was amazing, had a sense of humor, great with personal examples, super clear on specifically what you need to know for tests and quizzes, overall very approachable, genuine professor. Take him for theory. Hes definitely your best bet.
He says what he means & means what he says. This is a "weed-out" class so as a student you have to be dedicated, if you're not- it's not his fault. He is a wonderful teacher & I learned a lot about communications. I would definately take his class again & I look forward to taking his other classes in my concentration.
Rather dry lectures and sense of humor, have to write journals for every chapter. Gives five quizzes which aren't too bad. His exams are awful, he doesn't give you enough time to fully complete to the best of your ability and you will be extremely rushed. Avoid if possible.
This teacher goes out of his way to make this class as hard as possible, at first I thought that it was just the first level of comm classes. I was wrong, he made this class even harder, to the point that it was a choir to even go to class and listen to him. DONT TAKE HIM, not worth it. You are better off taking another teacher.
I have failed another class taught by him COMM 3141. It turned out to be an English writing class instead of Organizational Communications class. I find him Arrogant and self centered he is unwilling to help his students. Do not take his courses. You have been fore warned.
Great Professor! Tests are extremely hard but if you read, attend class and go see him for help then you will be ok!
Rather difficult. Had to put in an immense amount (6-10 hrs a week) outside of class. I'm sure there are professors that are more helpful. His TA that semester was excellent though. She gave a lot of extra credit opportunities and helped the students a great deal.
Cliff Scott is awesome! He's super entertaining and I love his sense of humor! Go to class because you need the notes and he gives pop quizzes. As long as you put some effort in as far as studying, reading and showing up you'll be fine. Go to SI, his TA is awesome (Meghan Snyder) and he is awesome, he'll clarify anything, you just have to ask him!
This class is not so east but it is imperative and I do mean imperative that you show up to class and read your textbook. Your textbook is God in this class. You must read to pass this class.
I'm taking his class now and he definitely takes the time to explain things in a better way than the book would so class attendance is pretty mandatory. If you read the chapters assigned each week for class and take notes while doing so you'll make easy B's on his exams! I find his sense of humor hilarious and his lectures are super interesting. a
Tough course, good professor. READ and go to class. The textbook will be your bestfriend, treat it as such. Tests are difficult and weighted heavily, but study guides are provided and there is plenty of time to prepare.
Tough class but Dr. Scott made the material interesting and very clear. GO TO SI!! and read the text. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives pop quizzes that aren't hard if you do the reading.
Dr. Scott is very laid back, funny and sarcastic in class which makes his classes very easy to sit through. However, he teaches one way, and tests a complete different way. He gives pop quizzes, but not enough to save your grade. No homework assignments to help you. He teaches in a very conversational way and his tests look like theory books. AVOID
Make sure you go to class and take notes! Go to TA review sessions, they help A LOT! I did these things and made a B in the class
This class is tough no matter who you take it with. Professor Scott will tell you the very first day this class has a 40% fail rate and he is right!!! WORK IN GROUPS!! I had a study group and it's the only reason I am coming out with a B! Read the book, there is no other way to get any good grades! If you put in the effort you will be fine.
Dr. Scott is awesome, smart, and always willing to help out! Make sure you attend ALL classes, try to do excellent on quizzes (this helps a lot) READ, READ, READ!! Also SI sections are great! Rachel is great!!!
Dr. Scott is a very good professor. His lectures are coherent, and he really knows the material. He's repetitive to listen to, but I think that's because of Comm 2100's failure rate. Comm 2100 needs to be restyled if only 60% of every class taught by every professor passes every semester.
Dr Scott is sarcastic and funny ! i really enjoyed his class. make sure you attend ALL classes and LISTEN to what he says. on the exams there are questions about the readings AND the lectures. And when he says you have to read each chapter 6 times, it's true ! one time is definitely not enough.
GO TO CLASS, GO TO SI WITH YOUR TA, THIS CLASS IS VERY HARD NO MATTER WHO YOU TAKE IT WITH!! BUT IF YOU DO GOOD ON THE QUIZZES AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT THAT HE GIVES AND DO DECENT ON THE EXAMS THEN YOU CAN PASS THIS CLASS!!! READ.READ.READ IS THE KEY!!!!
This teacher intentionally makes this class as hard as possible. He teaches one way, and tests a complete different way. No homework assignments to help you. He teaches in a very conversational way and his tests are like excerpts from theory books. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR IF POSSIBLE.
Professor Scott was very helpful in this course. He said in the first class over my summer session that this class would be hard and he is completely correct. THIS CLASS IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Please do not take this class unless you are willing to study 5+ hours outside of it, I AM not joking. You have to read before and after the class to pass.
Dr. Scott says that you cannot approach this class like any of your other classes and he was right. You have to put most of your time into this class so if you can take it in the summer do it, its much easier.
Read. Read. Read. GO TO CLASS . Read. Read. Read. This class is very difficult but if you can attend every class, make in the A's and B's on quizzes, and make 70's or above on the exams THEN YOU CAN PASS THIS CLASS. Most people take this class twice but if you do the extra credit offered at the end and you go to SI reviews then you will pass.
Cliff Scott is coming. And hell is coming with him. Make no mistake, it's not revenge he's after, it's the reckoning. A man like Scott has got a great big hole, right in the middle of him. He can never flunk enough, or grade enough, or inflict enough pain to ever fill it.
First, and foremast, let me say 1) I do not think it is fair to require colleges student to do reading that takes so so so so much time to read and 2) he does provide exam objectives with the page number so it is almost impossible to find where the answer is. Itwould be better if we didn't have any reading, just do activities, watch DVD's, ect
Dr. Scott is a professor who is SUPER passionate about what he teaches. He is willing to meet with you outside of class during office hours or even by scheduling appointments. He is always wanting to help the students in some way because he knows that the curriculum for this class is difficult. MAKE SURE TO READ********* That is the class. Reading
Dr. Scott is a great professor. He is really sarcastic but super passionate about what he does and gives great advice. He is very helpful because he understands this course is pretty hard. I would recommend READING THE TEXTBOOK, doing online quizzes, outline chapters, & going to study groups. It is a fun class but you HAVE to study to pass.
Dr. Scott is AMAZING! He uses PowerPoint's so you can easily follow his lecture & add important things he mentions, has pop quizzes (drops your lowest out of 5,they can help u if u do well ), & 3 tests. You NEED to READ THE BOOK, I would suggest doing the online quizzes as well and STUDY STUDY STUDY. Went from a 72 after first test to 85 overall!!
Dr. Scott is a great teacher. YOU HAVE TO READ. This is my second time taking this class with the first being with Crane in which I failed. I got out of Scotts class with a B. Gives five pop quizzes and extra credit. Read before class, take notes in class, then review after and you will pass. Easier than Crane.
A brilliant instructor with a refreshing approach. I can't wait to take more involved classes with him.
Dr Scott is the best professor I've had. His lectures are applicable in your personal life & career. Yu have to EARN your grades. Doing the average does not cut it. Study guides will only get you up to an 80 on the test. DO YOUR READINGS, IT IS ESSENTIAL. Study groups are a necessity & the SI sessions are blessings, especially if you have robin.
Dr. Scott is literally the worst instructor. He made Intro to Comm Theory harder than what it really was. He give unexpected bs pop quizzes, so you had to attend class. On the first day of class, he told all the students that we were most likely going to fail because a lot of people do. Reading the text book in my opinion, still doesn't prepare you
Dr. Scott is the BEST professor I've had during my 4 years at UNCC. He hints at questions that will appear on exams and gives you the power points. The material is very easy to understand. Go to his office hours or make appointments to go over quizzes or exams or to get your questions answered and you will succeed. He wants to help his students!
Dr. Scott is one of those professors that truly enjoys seeing his students engage in Communication Studies. He makes himself readily available for discussions and encourages you to swing by his office and talk over your test. He is an excellent lecturer, he provides you with the slides before class. He doesn't just read off the slides, or the book.
One of my favorite professors. You have to work for your grade, but if you do, you'll learn to enjoy it. One of the few classes that I looked forward to attending. I took him for COMM2100 and now I'm taking him for 3141. The best way to succeed in this class is to find a way to apply it to your life, which is easy with the examples he gives.
Dr. Scott is the best professor in the communication department. He always helps his students, he gives clear insight as to what is on exams, he gives study guides, and he doesn't just read straight from the power points. If you listen to his lecture and follow along the powerpoint you'll understand the entire chapter. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
This professor had a sarcastic attitude and was difficult to understand. He gave pop quizzes and exams were hard. Didn't work well with students and basically said a lot will fail/have to retake. It is really hard to get into again if you don't pass and he doesn't help with that if that does happen to you.
Scott is one of my favorite teachers. Read read read, and don't expect to hear back from him or get grades changed. TAs were super unorganized and didn't show up. Tests are in essay form- midterm and a final. Also there are journals that are taken up randomly. also pop quizzes. great class, very interesting
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. This was my second class with him and it was exactly what I hoped. There was plenty of Dr. Scott humor and lots to learn and apply to your life. Don't take class with Dr. Scott if you aren't interested in actually getting an education. He is incredibly nice and is willing to offer himself as a mentor.
The class is really difficult in general but as far as professors go I'm glad I had him. He is very straight forward, you honestly need to read every chapter he assigns to pass. Go to the lectures. There isn't homework or a study guide for any tests so read and go to class and take notes. He's funny and wears a lot of plaid
Super hard class, but Dr. Scott is great. He using lots of examples to try and better explain the material. Write down every word that comes out of his mouth. If you are confused about anything, visit him. He really likes meeting with his students and is very helpful.
Dr. Scott is the best professor in the entire Communication department. You have to read and pay attention in class, but if you do you'll have no difficulty in the course. He genuinely wants to help his students and is a great lecturer. Pop quizzes are also given when you least expect it so always be prepared for those when you have readings due.
Dr. Scott is a great professor who cares about the content he teaches. 3 tests, 5 quizzes (lowest dropped) and he gets offended if no one participates. He also looks and acts like David Cross. Great class, just read, do online quizzes and you'll get at least a C.
This class is not for the lazy. You really have to work for a decent grade, but the reward for passing is well worth it. Dr. Scott is so knowledgeable and it shows in his lectures. This guy wants you to be engaged and you better be; participate or be ridiculed. I'm minoring in Communications thanks to him. 3 difficult tests, 5 quizzes.
Attendance is not mandatory but you will hate yourself for not going to class. All the power points are available online and they correspond directly with his lectures, it's a good idea to have a printed copy. READ. Make sure you read every chapter and take good notes. Pop quizzes will make or break you; only 5 questions each.
Professor Scott was a good but tough professor. He doesn't require attendance but he does give pop quizzes (5) that can't be made up, but the lowest grade is dropped. Reading the chapter is a must. A study group is a good idea. Printing the PowerPoints to take notes on during class helped a lot. Made an A.
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! This class is difficult, you'll have to work really hard to make a good grade, but Dr. Scott is so knowledgable and works hard to make his students understand the material. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you need to go if you want to pass. Reading is ESSENTIAL. 5 pop quizzes (lowest grade dropped) and three exams.
This class is EXTREMELY difficult. READ, READ, READ the book and take notes. A lot of people don't understand that. 3 tests, 5 pop quizzes (lowest dropped). Go to class, put your phone away, and listen. Going to SI will help tremendously. If you want to pass and get in the major, you're going to have to dedicate A LOT of time to this class.
I hate him He didnt let me pass just for 2 points!!!!!!! How can you be so heartless Scott?!!?! He does not round grades up. Hardest class ever.
Read the textbook! Hes the best.
I didn't slack, but I struggled. I never skipped and always read and studied. The class literally brought back my anxiety. I wasn't able to attend SI due to other classes. I was less than half a point of passing, taking it again in the fall, not as worried since he taught very well. I am a very bad test taker and that is what messed me up.
Lectures were basically bullet points from the text book (old edition) with personal experiences thrown in. Entire class got 95% participation, 90% on final research paper, and 28/30 on final exam essay. I honestly think he forgot to take role and didnt have time to grade papers and essays so he gave same high grade to all. Lazy teacher!
Interesting teacher, made a 4 hour summer course fun. His MC portion of tests are tricky, read the book- some topics weren't on the study guide. He tests 30% as long response he picks 5 topics, define it, explain why it is important, and give an example. He is fair, flexible, and makes a repeat from undergrad course less redundant.
This course is designed to be a weed out class. If you do not read every chapter he assigns you will fail without a doubt. On the first week of class he said about 50% of you will fail this class and its the truth. I passed with a 76 and he will make you work for it and has no heart for .5 round ups to pass. Good luck
Cliff wasn't the worst teacher i've ever had. Has pop quizzes so make sure you go to class. Quiz questions can be a bit tricky because of the wording so read before class. Mid-term & final exam were both short answer/essay so you really need to know whats going on in class. Also does journals which are easy but he collects them at random times.
Okay, Dr. Scott is a solid professor. He is really good at applying the information he teaches you to real life situations to better understand the theories. The book is absolutely essential. You will not pass without it. The tests are almost exclusively from the book. If you like organizational communications, you'll like this class.
2 days a week are lecture, 1 day is study session with TA. Have to attend minimum 8 study session, lectures not required but helpful. Exams are the only other grade, application based not definition. You actually have to learn the material, book is super helpful.
The class was okay, but it was tough. A lot of reading, lectures, and notes. MUST do those things to succeed even barely. Questions are written by him, Quizlet will not help. Exams incredibly tough (best: 76 worst: 55). TA did most of the work, found her to be very frustrating and difficult. Communication with Dr. Scott was obviously poor.
Great class, great professor.
Dr Scott doesn't require mandatory attendance, but it really will benefit you to go and take notes. He and his TAs were very helpful, and I thought his lectures were interesting. He is a really funny guy. He doesn't assign much, so make sure to do the work he does give and attend lectures; you will do just fine. Great professor, and I recommend!
If you do not show up to lecture you will fall behind. Dr. Scott has very thorough lectures with information that is not on the posted slides. I finished with an A by taking good notes and doing the Packback throughout the semester. There are pop quizzes on textbook readings. Absolutely would take him again.
I enjoyed this class and this prof! He's very striaghtfoward and down to earth. He does random pop quizes with not much warning, so this is where attendance matters. I reccommend going to as many classes as possible, because the tests are based on lectures more than the textbook. The online resource he gives called A First Look is SO helpful!
The material from this class was harder than I expected, but he's a good teacher and makes class enjoyable. DON'T SKIP CLASS. If you miss a pop quiz for any reason, you get an automatic zero, even if you're sick or have an emergency. The tests are very hard. One good thing is that the assignments are really easy and not time-consuming at all.
Dr. Scott is knowledgeable and a great lecturer. You are going to think you don't need to read, but when it comes to tests and pop quizzes, they ALL come from the book. You can go off the lecture, but I noticed a big difference between when I read and when I didn't. I suggest his class, I learnt a lot from this course.
