Mr. Wakeman, is a GREAT teacher. He is very clear, and easy. An awesome teacher to ask about what classes to sign up for, and WHO are good teachers at CBC. My favorite teacher of all time so far.
Good teacher. Requires you be prepared for class by collecting homework every day, but it's not hard and he explains things well. Very knowledgable and easy to relate to.
This guy rocks the house. He is very clear on waht he expects there are no big supprises on test days. Datly reading assingments get old but it keeps the class on track.

Terrific professor, is very clear and spells everything out for you, the best teacher at CBC
He is awesome and funny.
I really disliked this class. He would often talk about things that did not relate to the class. His tests were also dificult and covered a large range of topics.
Such a cool teahcer!

He was bad. He said that I was too good at writing and so he gave me bad grades. He was boring and not very clear.
Mr Wakeman is one of the best instructors I ever had. His class was a joy to attend and his papers would flow naturally form the tip of my pen, after the class discussion. He introduced me to philosophers as Descartes, Nietzsche, Paley. He was very accessible in his office hours and was not afraid to tackle delicate topics, like affirmative action.
I love Mr. Wakeman... He's so cool -insert happy tears here-
I liked Mr.Wakeman's class. He is honest and practical. I recommend taking a class from him. I don't regret it.
Dry sense of humor - not above poking fun at self. Not the easiest professor but probably the most helpful. Knows what he's doing without looking down his nose at you.
He has a dry sense of humor, he's boring to an extent sometimes he's more interesting. LOTS of hmk every day you had to come into class with a written ticket/paper or you had to leave and it would be counted as an absence...more than 5 absences and you fail.
Wakeman is an amazing teacher. He does have an odd sense of humor, but it is in a good way. He does an excellent job in explaining EXACTLY what you have to do for his assingments, he does have a lot of homework but it is all really helpful and relative to the class. 5 out of class essays, 2 in class. Hard grading standards.I reccomend this class!
Mr Wakeman is an amazing professor, he makes me laugh practically every day. He does give lots of homework but his class is on of the few that i feel like i learned something from.
funniest man you will ever meet, he is a really hard grader though. but overall its reasonable.
Mr. Wakemen where do I start? First off his assignments are a breeze. He knows his job and does it well. He has prepared me for 101. With that being said his lectures are boring and so are most of his jokes although you have chuckel a little because he's laughing so much at his own jokes. I liked him as a professor...
he is funny as all hell! just because he is so cheesy lol. Love him. he is kinda cute too ;)
This teacher is by far the best teacher at cbc. If you want to be challenged, do well, learn, and laugh your butt of everyday I would reccomend any of his classes. He is a total nerd and absolutley hilarious. I took english 101 philosophy 101 and logic from him and he is seriously HILARIOUS!!! He is a great teacher. Always explains what he wants
Awesome teacher. I have him for English 99 and he could not be more helpful. He makes it mandatory to set up appointments to go over your writing and grades. Good teacher to take in the morning he was never once in a bad mood and always tries to make jokes. He is on the conservative side but I would not rate his humor as "dry" just clean!
Took him for Symbolic Logic. This class was hard.If you like your GPA, avoid this course. It is the kind of class where you either get it(visual thinkers) or don't. Wakeman doesn't do anything for those who fall into the later category, even if you work hard. His grading methods make it so there are alot of F and D grades,no cs or B's and a few A's
I took symbolic logic with him and loved it! Once you 'get it' you can get 100% on the weekly quizzes easily. Lots of people never got it and dropped out though. You'll have to turn in a "ticket" every day, which is 5 homework promlems and a question you have. It's super easy and you can get it done amd still have time to watch Bones before bed
Logic was hard for me, but Mr. Wakeman had ways of explaining things that made things just "click." It was odd to do an assignment learned from the book and then review in class, but he tells you where to go to find the answer key to the entire book so you can see what to do when you're stuck. Nerdy and cool sense of humor, great professor!
Wakeman is an amazing professor!!! He's a great mix of funny and serious and he makes it very easy to learn. If you make an effort to come to class and listen (instead of sleeping or txting) then you will love him! and if you do text or sleep in class he'll just "give you the day off". Questions are encouraged so you learn a lot. I suggest wakmen!
Wakeman is a very humorous and well spoken teacher! He's a very normal guy, and teaches very clearly, so other normal people(AKA: Everybody who scored high enough on the COMPASS to take ENG101!) can learn well. I'm having a great time in his class, and am learning a lot! I'm definitely going to be taking more of his classes. :)
Very fun, it's like watching a stand-up comedian every day. Grades pretty fairly and makes you work if you want an A. Class is a joy and even if we weren't required to go, I'd still go.
This class has been very fun, and very helpful in understanding Philosophy. Wakeman never fails to make class enjoyable and filled with laughter. He is very helpful, and tries to make sure you understand everything, while still challenging you in the class work. A great teacher, overall. I recommend that everyone take a class or two from him!
Had him for Eng 101, very hard grader and he goes off some harsh rubric that docks of quiet a bit for little mistakes so he isnt a qualitative teacher. His humor was a bit childish too making class annoying. If you aren't interested in writing or care about your GPA dont take him there are plenty of better professors.
I had Wakeman for English 101 and he was so good I took him again for Philosophy 101. His humor is rather satirrical and is usually enjoyable. He grades you fairly, and mostly on content. If you are liberal, or democratic you will probably agree with him more. As long as you keep an open mind you should enjoy the class.
Oh my goodness, I love Wakeman! His sense of humor is really what stuck. I could never go through class without laughing my butt off. He is kind of cute too, in a nerdy way. I look forward to seeing what other classes I can take with him!
He was a great teacher, just make sure if you take ENG 101 to read utopia or the quizes will bite you in the butt.
I took The Lord of the Rings analysis class from Mr. Wakeman this winter quarter.. It was a wonderful class for people who love Tolkien's work! You have to buckle down and read the trilogy, but the quizzes weren't too hard, and the teacher tries his best to make sure you know the material for the tests. All together 3 Tests, 3 Essays, 10 Quizzes.
Mr. Wakeman is hilarious! I love his sense of humor. He really makes class enjoyable and I would deffinately take him again. Make sure you read the material or the quizzes will kill you but otherwise he is so worth taking! His sarcasm is really great lol.
Mr. Wakeman was really fun and easy to listen to. He made a really boring class a lot of fun. He also told us about this site which may have saved me because one of my teachers for fall quarter has a 2 rating! Thank you so much for the awesome information. Hopefully I get him as a teacher again while at CBC.
I really liked his class. I had it at 650 am and it was never a problem because i loved lisstening to his jokes and he always made the time go by. if you aren't that great at writing i would take this class he is very helpful!
Great teacher! He always kept class lively, humorous, and interesting. He really wants his students to grow as writers and really encouraged everyone in the class to be themselves while still being focused and putting ideas together intelligently. He is a stickler for grammar and punctuation so pay attention. Read the material! I loved the class:))
Gives lots of feed back on essays, and answers emails fairly quickly. If I had questions he answered them well.
Really fun class to take. It's kinds like a math class but way easy. He's really funny and will give you the day off if you mess around.
Class was interesting especially if you like LOTR. If you miss the max days you fail the class. Mr. Wakeman knows his stuff and you'll learn a lot. But it gets old fast. You have the same amount of reading every week which you are quizzed on and then there's 3 essays and exams. So it's not a lot of work, but doing that much on LOTR is painful.
Kinda a harder class, but lots of fun. Wakeman is the best, and helpful.
Mr. Wakeman is odd, but the greatest teacher I've had! He is so hilariously animated that I can't even take him seriously sometimes, but that's just his style. His voice makes the class easy to pay attention to, and his facial expressions make it impossible to look away. DON'T TAKE PHILOSOPHY WITH ANY OTHER TEACHER!
Professor Wakeman is hilarious. He'll answer any question you have and make sure you understand it. Can be a bit of a harsh grader if you're not good in English classes. You're allowed to turn in one essay late, but with it you have to turn in a one-page paper of the most outrageous excuse/lie you can think of. Make it funny.
One of the best teachers I have ever had.
One of e best teachers I've ever had. This class blew my mind. He isn't the easiest professor, but if you care you'll be fine.
Awesome teacher....I took him for both ethics and Symbolic Logic and he was really helpful, but the grading on the essays in ethics was killer. Don't take an english class from him unless you're a pro! Symbolic logic was fun!
Fantastic class, he was super helpful, and he made you want to come to class everyday. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn how to really write.
i love Lord of the Rings, and went into this class with excitement, nothing like what i thought it would be. he tries his best to keep it interesting and he is funny, but it is a tough class with alot of analysis. also, other than office hour, it is very inconvenient to try and get outside help from him.
Dont take intro to philosophy with anyone else! Don't go into Mr. Wakeman's thinking its gonna be an easy A, and don't enter class with a negative attitude. He's super animated and his class is awesome. Turn in all your tickets, do well on your essays, and study the crap out of the study guide for the tests!
He is a good professor. Make sure you turn your assignments in on time.
He is the best teacher I have ever had. Super animated and hilarious. I wish I could have him as my teacher in every class.
Wakeman is a fabulous teacher. He is strict- he will make you leave class if you don't follow the rules but he is hilarious and even though symbolic logic isn't easy, he makes it fun and gives lots of help and practice sheets. GET THE TEXTBOOK! and bring it to class everyday.
I never liked English during high school, but when I took Mr. Wakemans class that all changed. Basically so long as you show up and do the work you'll pass. Great thing is he tries to make class fun and hilarious.
If you don't bring your books with you when you need them or have your homework done on time, he'll kick you out of class! You have been warned... I'm speaking from experience. :P He does make class fun though. He always made everything really clear and explained everything really well. :)
My favorite professor by far. He's hilarious, keeps class interesting, and makes sure you are aware of upcoming deadlines. You have got to keep up with the reading and show up to class, but studying for tests isn't difficult as long as you have a general idea of what's going on and have some semblance of intelligence.
Very dynamic teacher, keeps philosophy interesting.
Super hilarious so always kept me attentive in class. Assigns papers but no longer than 1200 words but prepare to read Utopia if you're taking Engl 101- it's pretty boring.
He's awesome, makes class fun and he is very funny. He grades tough on essay's.
Wakeman is HILARIOUS. I took his class as a running start student and he was amazing. He expects you to work hard, and he can be a tough grader, but I've never learned as much as I did as fast as I did. If you want to know how to write a college level essay I recommend his class.
Overall a great teacher! Would recommend. He also does ENG 101, but only fall quarter.
Wakeman is so far one of my favorite teachers. Each week you get about 1-3 mini quizes and its always from what you learned the day before. All the essays we do are in class only and he gives you time in class to work on them. He also is funny. The stories that he tells are the best. Lastly, he will not let you have phones in the class!!!
Professor Wakeman was my favorite professor so far at CBC! He really involves his students in the lectures and is absolutely hilarious. He tells it how it is and there is no uncertainty in what he wants. He is really helpful, all you need to do is ask. He doesn't rely on power points, rather he actually knows and teaches the subject. Recommend!
Cliff Wakeman is hilarious. Good teacher, but since I took this class at 6:50AM, it was hard to stay awake. Fortunately, he is super funny and makes class very interesting. Would recommend. 10/10
I took for English 99 at 6:50 am best English class I've ever had I learned so much. Even tho we did a lot of practice Essays it didn't seem hard, we do them in class by hand so you will learn. awesome class 99% you will pass if you do what he ask. journals are required to pass but they are easy.
Wakeman is a goof but a great professor. He's one of those people you either like or don't. If you're taking Sym Log, GET THE BOOK, bring it every day, and go to the library and make photo copies of the Magic Book. Studying is as simple as doing the exercises with the complete answer key. Do that and you will pass.
Mr. Wakeman is one of those teachers who is an absolute goof. But thats what i love about him. His teachings are very in-depth, and he gets the entire class involved in reports and such. At 6:50 in the morning, your dead inside but wakeman brightens you up. A lot of quizzes and essays, but his feedback on them is insane. I highly recommend.
If you need to improve your writing and get prepared for English 101, he is the professor to take. Super helpful and funny. Make sure to do all of the work and you will pass the class.
Wakeman.. first of all he's awkward, essays are graded hardcore, his quotes quizzes are super easy. If your a procrastinator I do not reccmound I gave it my all in his class but for no where, I did learn in his class but he grades harsh on the smallest mistakes let's just say don't forget to put a period there.
Although the class was demanding, I could definitely tell I was learning and progressing as a student. He was an excellent professor that was more than willing to help with any school issues.
You are sorry if you are not fluent in English. He doesn't care how good you are in the quizzes even though you perfect the whole quarter attendance, you won't pass. He is not considerate to non-english speaker.
I thought this class was extremely hard, especially to get an A. The professor is extremely unprofessional and could present information a bit better. He strongly dislikes technology so he won't be using canvas other than for email. He also moves really fast so you have to keep up. This is doing math with symbols it's nothing like traditional philo
Horrible teacher. The exams have nothing to do with the lecture and he doesn't want us to pass his class. He tries to "trick" is on the exam so we get the wrong answers.
Cliff was awesome! I absolutely loved his class! Yeah, there are six papers to write (two in class), but it's totally manageable. He even gives you back your paper to fix your mistakes. He made coming to class very fun. But beware, don't work on another class' work in class. He'll kick you out. Respect that you're in his class and pay attention
I took Wakeman's english 101 class... and It was tough. The quiz's and his in class assignments are as easy as 1,2,3, but he grades hard. I put all my time in for this class asking for help, asking questions, but i failed most essay including one of the finals. Let me just tell you that you're not so good at spelling do not take! #FinalsFromHell
Mr. Wakeman is strange, but he's easily one of my favorite - if not my favorite - professors at CBC. He will seem a little intimidating at first, but he really isn't bad at all. He's hilarious and goofy & will always find interesting ways to grab your attention and help you learn. He doesn't use canvas, but it's fairly easy to keep track of grades.
An incredible teacher who manages to keep the class very fun, easy to follow along with, but at the same time he keeps a disciplined classroom and gets stuff done. he is very approachable and easy to work with outside the classroom. He assigns very small homework assignments three days a week and that's it. 10 quizzes, one final.
Wakeman is a professor who cares more about punctuation rather than the content. (also grades on having a "creative title"). He is a tough grader on essays, and on other assignments he uses a 1,2,3,4 system. You're basically lost on what your grade is as well because he doesn't input grades on canvas. I would suggest taking another professor.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Even if it's your last choice you'll so so so regret it! He's such a tough grader, and I worked so hard on my essays to get the grade he gave me. The in-class essays are worse.
Mr. Wakeman is the only teacher that can actually make me look forward to getting up at 5:00AM to go to school. He's more fun than a barrel of monkeys and obviously cares a lot about what he teaches. Some would say he's a difficult grader, but I'd say he's a fair grader and nothing more or less than that.
Hilarious but very hard on grading. Studying for a test on Utopia wont help because he picks the most random questions. Cares about punctuation more then content. I wrote essays for hours, looked them over, and still possibly failed but you'll never know because he DOESN'T POST GRADES. 1,2,3,4 step writing process which sucks. Still cool though.
Mr. Wakeman is very funny in class, sometimes I broke down laughing for minutes at a time during his lectures. Tough grader but once you get the hang of his system it gets easier. Taking Philosophy with him next quarter I enjoyed his class so much.
Mr. Wakeman is the best, Intro to Philosophy was my second class with him and it's quite simple yet difficult. He outlines his expectations early and repeats them often, makes sure you know due dates and grades fairly on the exams. I would recommend doing some research on Philosophy beforehand, if it's not your cup of tea, do not take this class.
The first thing to know: liking LOTR does not guarantee you an easy A. I had never read the book and had little interest in the films and did very well in the class while some lifelong fans struggled. The class is focused more on analyzing the material rather than knowing facts about it. 3 essays, 3 tests. Quizzes can be tricky, read carefully.
This class is not for people who are looking for an easy alternative to a traditional math class. It is difficult material that will be as challenging if not more for those who are not inclined toward mathematics/organizational thinking. Mr. Wakeman grades on a curve, but even then it doesn't always help much. Practice more than you think you need.
He is a very good teacher. He doesn't grade you easy though. If you are looking for an easy A, i would not suggest taking him. He grades you based on how much work you put in. If you try you will be good. If you don't well that's your fault. His lectures are very fun and funny and i would suggest taking him
The coolest. His class is not that difficult if you study and try to understand the material. Don't pick fights with him or get defensive, have an open mind. Best class I've ever taken and best professor, like ever.
Wakeman is very willing to go the distance to help his students. He isn't "easy" but he mostly wants you to be a critical thinker. He is very respectful but doesn't want his time wasted so don't think you get to be lazy in his classroom. I'd definitely recommend him and take him again of given the opportunity.
Toughest grader I've had all year, but I've learned way more in his class than any other I've ever taken. He will challenge you like a teacher should. His lectures are entertaining and he know his ethics very well. Come prepared, study hard, take a deep breath after your first bad grade (there will more than likely be one), and you will learn a lot
SPRING 2019, 6:50 AM, I AM NON ENGLISH SPEAKER, BUT I'VE LEARN A LOT FROM THAT CLASS. GOOD TEACHER AND YOU WON'T REGET TAKING HIS CLASS. EASY IN-CLASS ESSAY. I AM GALD I TOOK HIS CLASS.
Very funny, loved his class! All of our homework was readings responses, pretty easy. All We did in class was a lecture and discussion. I took his intro to ethics and it really made me question some of my own beliefs, very thought provoking. He didn't share his opinion a single time all quarter as he wanted to remain neutral, very wise.
He gives out daily reading assignments and expects you to fill a page filled with notes on the page based off of what you have read. Every day. You don't fill one in, you don't get to class, he will kick you out, I have seen him do that. Oh, and did I mention that he despises electronics with a passion?
I loved his class. His lectures were entertaining, and kept me engaged. I took his 6:50 class so that definitely says something. He gives clear criteria and knows what he wants. He is very willing to help you whenever it's needed. You will have to read material and then take a quiz but they aren't difficult to do. The majority of the grade is essay
Professor Wakeman was a little rough at times but I learned so much more about writing from him than any other English teacher I have had. He wants you to be successful and cares about improving your writing skills. Be prepared for short quizzes from the reading material and take notes on every detail of the reading!
Really funny professor! Work hard on your essays, don't do the things he tells you not to, and you'll do great. If you don't do all the homework, you will get kicked out of class.
Wakeman is hilarious; I loved his dry sense of humor. The way he grades essays is helpful and he gives good feedback. He does a great job preparing you for English 101. However, don't take his class thinking it'll be easy. He's fair and firm, but he's an excellent teacher who I learned a lot from and I highly recommend.
Mr. Wakeman is the kind of the teacher that you want to take again. Super goofy and brings classes together. Daily "tickets" (notes) required. Exams are part multiple choice, short answer, and essay. Favorite part: you get to argue over the answers afterwards. He is the ideal philosophy professor. Cannot recommend highly enough for that class.
The quarter started off pretty good with Mr. Wakeman, but as time went on it just went downhill. There were reading assignments due everyday and if you didn't do them you got a zero as well as three extra points deducted from your final grade. He also makes you ask questions at the end of every assignment but doesn't answer them. He's kinda funny.
Forget everything you know and adapt to his way. You'll get railed if you don't
But why did he have to grade this like an english class
I took Wakeman for English 99 and I was really worried I would not pass. He was really tough when it came to grading essays. Usually this class is in person but with covid it was online so he made sure to time the exams which were to be an essay that you don't know the subject of till you open. I was relieved to pass :)
His exams are stressful and the next day you have to write an essay in one day. The only other assignments besides the exams and essays once a month are his daily tickets. At first, this may sound nice but there is nothing to supplement what we are reading about in the text. He crams so much information into each day that it is very overwhelming.
I had him for 2 classes English101 and English099, he is a solid professor and treats everyone fairly. He tries to give you feedback to improve your writing and is always able to talk with you. He has set office hours where you can walk in and ask questions or you can make an appointment to ask questions.
Every assignment I turn in with my own words he claims to be plagiarism. Every time I give him feedback theres no response. All he does is give me poor grades for all the work I do as per his standards. He is so discouraging that at this point Im not even inclined towards doing more work, itll make no difference.
very hard grader on assignments, specifically the Essays and Exams. Too much work crammed and too much information to retain. When that exam hit you better pray you remember every detail of every page you read in the book else you are not getting anything above a 60%. He has almost zero toleration for mistakes, and his communication is poor
Prof. Wakeman is funny and seems to be a kind person, but he does not have any grace when it comes to deadlines/grading and he doesn't explain content very well. This class is very hard unless your brain works mathematically. He does give out good practice material though and he grades on a curve.
He was such a tough grader, the average grade for most exams/essays was about 65%. M-Th there was a reading and response assignment. He was super strict with the due dates and wasn't very flexible with the students. He really made no exceptions and his communication was poor.
He's was a very kind teacher but a very very very tough grader.
Wakeman was very poorly mannered. Was constantly degrading students in front of the camera and using students work as examples, calling them "stupid" and "dumb". He did not make any acceptations for late assignments. Would not let me retake a test even though I am dyslexic. His tests are timed at 6 minutes even though there is 10 questions.
Assignments are due at 9am? Why? I have no idea. It just threw me off thinking i had a full day because i've never had a teacher before that did this. If you submit an assignment and get a 0 you can't submit for points, but you CAN turn in an assignment late. Come on now. Generally if you want good grades, stay away from these unorthodox teachers.
Did I accidently sign up for an English class? And I got graded down for citing the book, but he has a strict 0% plagiarism policy. So, if I don't cite and I paraphrase, is that an auto 0? And I got marked down for using things he said in lecture. So, should I not use lecture material? Confusing. Hard grader. Boring class.
Beware of the exams, you have one hour to write around eight paragraphs. Exams are on specific days at specific times dont miss them there are no retakes. Daily reading of usually 15 pages and 300-400 word papers due at 9:00 AM.
Professor Wakeman is an okay FYI teacher. He assigns various time-consuming readings. Your grade is based on five regular assignments and eight quizzes. His tests are on material directly discussed in the lesson and are multiple-choice. His grading criteria are clear, and he responds hastily to emails. I recommend him to any incoming student.
If inconsistency was a professor, it would be Wakeman. Journal work is fun, but his essays are terrible. He tells you one way to do it, you follow the guidelines, and he still marks you down for it. I even asked him what I should do in an email, and even the email directly from him was off. Save yourself a migraine and find a better teacher.
If inconsistency was a professor, it would be Wakeman. Horrible guidelines, grading policy and essays. No concrete ways to do things, always transparent. Thesis grading is garbage. I asked him through an email how to write the essay, followed what he said and he still marked me down. Save yourself a migraine and find another professor who's not bad
The essays he is tough on grading the rewrites and the fables he wants us to relate to will never be relateable to your experience for him. The quizzes have you read 10 sentences in 6 minutes either awnsering things you would think are simple like capitalization, commas, and apostraphes. If you ask for accommodations he gives you no extra time.
Mr. Wakeman very clearly knows what he's talking about. He is funny and is great at explaining new ideas to the class. However he is an insanely strict grader, and while he is good at telling people what he doesn't want them to do on the essays, it is left unclear what he does want you to do. He fixed the due by 9 Am thing from previous quarter.
He is a stern grader and will kick you out if you are sleeping, but very fun and good assignments.
Professor Wakeman is a funny guy but I wouldn't recommend him because he is strict about his policy and kicks anybody out of the class if they forget their work. Wakeman also grades your essay by opinion which makes him a tough grader. Overall do not take him if you are a first-year student unless you know English composition well more than I do.
I did not like this professor at all. He never completely answered my questions. He always wanted to be right. He was a touch grader and I never got a grade higher then a 65 on his in class essays. Overall he doesn't explain enough, horrible topics on essays, and doesn't give retakes.
Personally not a good professor in my opinion. Gave a lot of work but not a lot of instructions or explanations for them. Requested two books and there was almost daily readings and quizzes. Wouldn't take again.
I love Professor Wakeman! His Symbolic Logic class isn't for everyone but it's because you have to think differently, not because he's a bad professor. He is engaging and willing to help. There are entrance tickets due every day, but as long as you're a decently fast reader they shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. You WILL be kicked out without it
There is a lot of reading in this class. I know that his in person and hybrid classes do differ so that is something to take into consideration. He is a super tough grader and sometimes his grading does not make sense. Come prepared or else he may kick you out of class. Show up on time or he will kick you out. His rules are clear and strict.
I would recommend not taking Professor Wakeman if you aren't strong grammatically & tend to skip. All of our assignments and in class essays were on paper (and papers always needed to be turned in at the beginning of the next class, or you got no credit) and he grades proofreading abilities harshly. But he's funny and obviously knows his stuff.
