Cliff is awesome!! Definitely my favorite teacher yet--and i'm not at Juco anymore! He knows his stuff, and how to get students to understand--Just don't ever call him Cliffy! :-)

He is a great professor. He never makes you feel stupid, he's always there to help. I truly enjoyed being in is classes. He is truly a great guy with a cool sense of humor!

You will stay focused...he tells you stories to make sure of it. He knows the material so well, he can deliver it to you in an easy-to-learn format. Special bonus: only 86% for an A! Probably the best teacher I've had.

This guy rules. I aced every single exam in his class and didn't have to take the final. Plus, he is a very honest man, never rude, and quite funny. I'm currently taking a class from the guy who he studied for his PHd under; Fred Gottheil at UIUC.

I hated econ in high school. Altoff clarified all the confusing crap, and made the class fun. Whenever confused, he never minded sitting down and explaining the material one-on-one. I strongly recommend his class, especially if you hate this sort of thing.

Cliff was awesome to have as an econ teacher, I had him for macro and now I'm taking him for micro. Its pretty mandatory that you go to class to get a good grade just because this stuff is kind of hard but he's willing to take time to help you get through it.

He's the only teacher I've ever had that had a 10 minute story time break in the middle of class. To say the least, he's an awesome teacher with a great sense of humor.

CLiff was awesome, a good class to have to end the day, i mean who doesnt like storytime!

I took 30 minutes before every exam, and that's all I did.I have registered his ECON 104, and I am looking forward it!

Had not much of an interest at first, but has quickly become one of my favorite classes I have taken at JJC...and there aren't many.

I love having Cliff for a teacher. I've taken both his micro and macro economics class, and learned a lot about a subject i've never studied prior. Cliff's ability to relate economics material to everyday life makes the typically dry subject interesting. And Break time is always the highlight of the class!

If you plan on taking ECON, this is the professor to take. Not only is the class an easy A, but it's also interesting and fun. Attendance is not graded, and the book is used as an at home reference (so you don't have to lug it back and forth!)

Easy A, yet you don't walk out of the class feeling like you wasted your time. Your grade is three tests (4th optional to replace a previous test). He's smart enough to realize we stop paying attention half way through class, so he has story time, which certainly wakes you up. Don't even buy the $160 book (just go to class & you'll ace the class)

He made Econ 103 & 104 very interesting and takes a break to teach life lessons and tell awesome stories half way through class. It's unfortunate that he doesn't teach Econ classes beyond 104 at JJC. The book is not needed and attendance is not mandatory, but you'll want to go for the stories anyways.

Got kind of confusing for me with all the kind of graphs but he gives u study guides with everything u need to know, just spent some out of class time studying(he'll emphasize this)and your set. The lectures are also interesting. Good personality so you wont sleep, I dont think I ever saw anyone sleeping or not paying attention in class.

Cliff is a great teacher. In his class, an 86% is an A. Your grade is based off 3 tests and you can retake on if you'd like. He explains material very well. He also breaks the classes up with story time. I would highly reccomend him to students of all skill levels.

I retook Econ 103 with this guy and I must say I wish I had him the first time. He was so articulate and helpful compared to the first guy I took, that I couldn't believe I was being taught the same subject. His grading scale is great. You also get 3 tests and for the final you have the option of retaking your lowest score. Definitely recommend him

Amazing teacher! Very nice, reviews material until everyone understands. Always able to meet with you if you have questions. Also, you have three exams as your final grade, and the Final is where you can retake one of those three exams.

The only materials counting towards your grade are tests, and they can be difficult. study his notes and you'll know everything you need for his tests. he's funny too.

I put mandatory for class not for graded attendance but because it is helpful to be there every class since all the lecture notes will be on the test. No surprise questions. Professor is very clear and goes over plenty of examples in class. Very funny. Don't need textbook. As long as you study from notes taken then it helps a lot passing the tests.

Cliff is probably the best teacher I've ever had. He makes the material very easy to understand, if you go to class. He teaches you everything you need to know; the book is definitely NOT needed. I've never had an interest in economics, but now it's my favorite class. If you have the chance, take his class. You won't regret it.

While I wasn't a fan of the class itself, I really like him as a teacher. Very fair, very clear. He's also a great guy! He's super funny and nice. He's always there when you are struggling or need help. Would definitely recommend!

Favortie teacher by far. Just a good man. No homework besides worksheets that are optional used to study for test. do the worksheets and look at the notes and you will be fine. Very aggressive and enthusiastic teacher.

Retook Econ 103 with him and he made it very easy to understand as if it was another class. No book needed but do show up. He also tells funny stories in the middle of class to keep you focused. If you are struggling, go to him for help. He will help you out.

The teacher is a funny guy and very helpful as a professor; however, there are only 3 tests to receive points from so if you mess one up you're not in the best of luck. He does let you retake one as the final, but there is no homework or other ways of earning points so be careful.

Cliff is a phenomenal professor! I got blessed my first year by getting him by random for microeconomics. I made sure I took him for macroeconomics. There are only three test which make your whole grade. No homework! Take notes everyday and participate in class and you will do great!

One of the coolest teachers ever. He really is there for you as a student. Unlike other teachers he has a very laxed attendence policy, but he really makes you want to come to that class. Amazing teacher would definitely take again just for fun even if it wasn't for my degree.

Cliff was by far my favorite professor this semester! He lectures everyday, however it is very easy to stay interested due to his ability to make you laugh. He is a very funny guy but also very intelligent! There are 3 tests throughout the semester and he gives you the option to retake one of them during the final period! Highly recommend!

Attend all the classes. Cliff is a fantastic teacher. Explains the material as best he can and is quite open to questions. You can tell he really cares about what he does. Many will go to the class less and less progressively throughouthe the year, cuz it isn't mandatory, but don't! The material is much easier to understand coming from Cliff.

Cliff was the best professor I've had at JJC. I actually looked forward to his class. You don't need the text-book, take notes and review them before the tests. There are three tests, and there is no final. You can retake one of the tests on the week of finals if you want. Highly recommend for micro or macro.

Best teacher at JJC by far! He explains everything in detail and actually makes economics fun and enjoyable. You do need to go to class because the test questions are straight from class notes, but if you regularly attend class, the tests are a breeze. Don't bother buying a book because he doesn't reference it once! Awesome class & teacher.

Cliff's class is very simple. There are only 3 Exams over the whole class, and those are your only grades. There is no final, unless you want to retake any of the 3 tests. Attendance is not mandatory, but the tests are based off of what cliff writes on the board, so it is important to go. The book is not needed. Take his class!

Cliff is HILARIOUS. The material itself can be a bit boring however he will give breaks and tell stories that are very entertaining. If you show up to every lecture and take notes, the tests will be a breeze. Cliff makes the material very easy to understand and I am very happy I took this class with him.

Cliff is such an awesome teacher! He is always available for office hours, and is more than willing to help even if its just for one question. The material itself is extremely boring, but having a funny teacher makes it bearable! He goes in depth with concepts so you wont be lost. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I love this class and wish I had room to take 104. You MUST show up and take notes. You also need to make sure you understand what's in the notes. If you don't understand it, you NEED to meet with him outside of class. If you're a really bad test taker, I would not his class. Your entire grade is based on three tests, nothing else.

Cliff is a MUST TAKE for ECON 103 & 104. Do not buy the book. All test material is from his lectures. With that being said you must attend class and take notes to pass this class. Cliff was the best. He made Econ pretty manageable to pass. 3 tests, no homework, and optional final(retake any of the 3 tests). Don't buy the book. Class is optional, but show up. Take notes and he gives you little review packets that HELP for the exams! There's a break where we sit and talk which was awesome. HATE tests and managed to get an A!

Cliff is a great teacher, he really knows what he's talking about so he's good at elaborating on what he's talking about. Takes intermissions halfway through class and talks to the class, he's actually pretty funny. Only grades on three tests, for how easy I thought this class was I still finished with a B unfortunately but will take him again.

His Econ 104 class is identical to his 103 class. Same teaching style, same testing and grading style. If you go to class and take notes, you'll get an A no problem at all. Cliff has great stories he tells during class breaks.

Sitting through my first two monotonous microeconomics lectures at a large public University, I couldn't help but think of Cliff and how great his macro class was. My professor is literally reading verbatim off a power point we all have access to outside of class to 700 people. Cliffs class was fantastic, still my favorite professor.

Easily the best professor I had at JJC. If you have to take Econ 103 and 104, make sure you take it with him! Fantastic class, and guy. Makes the material interesting and is willing to help if you have troubles.

Best professor EVER. Economics is a boring subject to me, but he makes class interesting and I ACTUALLY understand Economics now. Wanted to keep my 4.0 GPA but was really struggling with some of the material. Went to his office hours for tutoring and he helps you understand! Go to class and take notes! My most favorite professor at JJC EVER!! Cliff really cares about all of his studnets, not only that but gives the best lectures and will relate them back to your everyday life. What an amazing teacher. Economics is such a crazy subject and Cliff makes even the most complex topics approachable and easy to understand. Very lecture heavy and you'll have to pay attention to completely understand the material, however that's the easiest part as his class will be the one that you look forward to going to.

So let me just start out by saying I am not good at economics at all but Cliff defintley helped me understand the material! He really wants all of his students to achieve. Going to class is optional but I highly recommend going as all the test material is covered in class. But with a professor like Cliff, you will enjoy going to class!

Dr. Althoff is a great professor. You must pay attention to his lectures and take notes because without them you won't pass the tests.

Cliff made econ so interesting, I want to take micro just so I can take class with him again. His stories during class made my day. You don't need the textbook. Make sure to read through your notes before each test, everything he covers goes on the exams. I recommend making notes of his long examples, that helped me get an A in the class.

Althoff was an amazing teacher! I can't imagine anyone that would not love his class. I've finished several years at JJC and I feared getting yet another bad teacher since they have a ton of those. This teacher changed all of that and proved that there are a FEW good ones.

Best and funniest professor at JJC! There are only 3 grades the whole semester which are 3 tests, there is no final but he allows you to retake one of your tests. If you have a question, he will answer it with grace. Every class we take about 5 minutes to tell stories and have fun and relax. You won't be disappointed!

If you can take classes with Cliff. He is a great guy and likes to tell a story or two when the class gets bored. He also grades like a "G" anything above an 85 is an A. No final if you get the grade you want.

Great Professor! he really understands that the material isn't easy to everyone and really makes the effort to make sure everyone understands the lecture. The class is all lectures so its okay to miss a few as long as you get the notes on what you missed.

Although econ is not as easy to understand as other subjects to me, Cliff definitely made it easier. Only three tests throughout the semester and the final is the chance to retake one. He is hilarious and always shares funny stories. I enjoyed taking this class and will be taking him again for 104!!

I love this teacher, he made the class easier, he even gives us a break in the middle of the class he gives us a topic and we talk about some stories he will always have the funniest ones, he's caring. If you need help you can always go with him to help you and find a way to pass the class with a good grade.

Absolutely the best teacher Ive had in a long time! You can tell hes passionate about what he does and encourages everyone to do the best they can. He makes going to class each day great, even if you werent originally that interested in economics. The grading scale is fair and the tests arent too bad. I wish more teachers were like him!

Cliff is such a good prefessor that I am taking him again in Econ 104. He only grades 3 exams and the final is just a revised version of one of those in hopes to get a better score. While all you do in this class is take notes, he does take "mental breaks" halfway through where for about 5 mins he and the class talks about anything but econ.

Cliff is pretty particular but engaging and entertaining. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. the entire class is lecture based and he does a great job of relating the material to everyday things you can understand. I went in with limited economic knowledge and aced it. the ENTIRE grade is just 3 tests. SIMPLY show up & take notes on everything on the board.

I loved this professor so much! His class was super informative, he gave all of the notes on the board and all you have to do is copy it down. He gives out worksheets as practice and doesnt take them for a grade. 3 tests is all he grades so make sure you show up! He was also super funny and a really genuine guy. Definitely take him for Econ!!

Very nice guy, super easy class as long as you pay attention which isnt hard because he makes the class interesting and gives the glass a 5-10 minute break in the middle. Nice transition from on campus to online this semester.

One of the greatest professors I have ever taken a course from. Your grade is based off of 3 out of 4 tests, and that's it. No textbook at all, just make sure you show up to class or you will miss material! I passed with an easy A, just copied notes he writes on a whiteboard in class and reviewed them before each test. Very engaging instructor!

Super nice guy, not too harsh on grading. But lots of work for a 3 credit class. Feels like your taking a 4 credit class with lots of reading in notes/lectures. (10 pages for each section.) Study guides are nothing like the exams. But optional retake for one of three exams at the end is cool. 5 question quiz in 8 minutes each week, was not easy.

He is great, offers extra credit "1 point" a week. I suggest you do them if you are not good at math or tests. Sometimes it was hard following along to some of the graphs. If you are having issues understanding something, just e-mail him and talk to him. He is very nice and helpful. The exams are not easy. Hand written notes are required.

Cliff was a great professor. He made everything very easy to understand. His class is test heavy though, as when I took the class exams counted for 75% of the grade. He has a doctorate a knows exactly what he's doing, but expects you to keep up with the material. As long as you do your work and study you will get an A.

I enjoyed having Cliff as a professor. He offers a ton of extra credit which really helps your grade. Cliff tells a lot of funny stories, but most importantly he is a great teacher. Everything he explains is straight forward and simple. The workload for Eco104 is rather low, and I would definitely recommend that you choose Cliff as your professor.

Arguably the best professor at JJC. Very understanding and someone with great stories. Keeps the class engaged and does not take his job too seriously. Definitely my favorite class because of what professor Althoff brought to the table each week.

Amazing and caring professor who used personal/humorous anecdotes to help students understand difficult subjects. Make sure to take detailed notes with graphs and memorize it all for the exams. Utilize his office hours if you're struggling! He is always available and ready to help! Allows re-takes on his exams so that's a bonus!

I'll be honest, economics is an incredibly boring concept to me, but Cliff made the subject actually tolerable and interesting. He's very bubbly and understanding throughout the entire semester! He gives breaks in the middle of class and often tells a story when doing so. I'm so anyone who takes this will have no problem passing!

Great professor who truly cares about his students, their well-being, and their success in his class. Lectures are quick, and broken up with breaks where he tells stories or has fun discussions. There are no assignments, just 3 tests and an optional final (test retake). He responds in a reasonable time frame, gives good feedback, etc.

He was a bubbly person always told stories in between lectures, and was a pretty easy grader with no homework. Unfortunately I believe he retired at the end of spring semester of 2023.
