uhh... very hard. very knowledgable man, not a bad teacher, just extremely hard. what's up with the chinese river geography test? not what I think when I want a history class. brilliant, well educated man, just needs to lighten up his class a little. a history buff who studies.. shoulda passed. :(
This is one of the best professors Tomball has. He may be a hard professor but you do come out of his class with having learned something. If you communicate with him, attend class, his tests are easy. They are straight from the lecture notes. His lectures are very informative.
Lectures are fantastic! Tests are easy, if you pay attention to the lectures. If you put in the effort on his map test you will pass it. He is very articulate and well educated! Tomball should be proud to have him! He's a keeper!!! One of Tomball's BEST Professors!!!

He's tough. The map test is a killer at the beginning of the semester if you don't study but even if you fail it you can still pass the class. I love history but you really have to pay attention to details and names and dates in that class. Memorization is key! But he's a kick @*# professor.
Hardest history teacher i have ever taken! There are easier professors out there FOR SURE! Also, Dont sit in the front if you do take him and you can find out for yourself why....
Pay attention and you will do fine. Very articulate. Lectures are very good!
This has been the hardest class I have ever taken. He give unclear and misleading information about what the tests will cover. He acted unconcerend and very uncaring. I did pass the class, but barely. I would not reccomend this teacher to anyone but my worst enemy.
He is not a good teacher... he doesnt care about his students!
He's a great teacher, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, gives excellent lectures. Be prepared to take meticulous notes, but reading the textbook is unnecessary. The MAP Test at the beginning is a killer, but later tests and papers are not bad at all. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, not just getting the credit hours.
fist of all his map test DOESN'T HAVE A NAME LIST. it's a straight recall test. he was very cold and closed off at the begining of the semester, it took a sub for our class to begin to talk to each other. i haven't even opened the book, his tests are mainly lecture based to take good notes. i'm a history major so he's tollerable.
An excellent Teacher. Takes his job seriously and expect highly of his students. He lives for History. Needs motivation to do well and work hard. Very impressive. Only for the dedicated, serious, curious student. I took a class with him 10 years ago when I just got to the US from Europe and he remains my best teacher.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had! This is one of my good subjects and he ruined it. He's very boring, just constant lecturing with no class participation, and his tests are almost impossible to pass! DO Not Take Him!!!
If you are a history major this class is a must. He is very difficult to follow and the tests can be hard but in the end he is a pretty good teacher. However, if you are simply looking for credits, this class is not for you. One more thing, do good on his map test, it will probably make or break the class for you.

Great professor and will answer all questions clearly, but YOU must be active in the class. The professor is not going to hold your hand. I agree about the map tests and he is a must if taking history. You do have to study.

If you want a top-notch education in geography, this is the professor to take. He conveys his knowledge and passion for the subject through his lectures, which I found to be lively and insightful. While his tests are challenging, an A is well within the realm of possibility if you are a serious student. Highly recommended professor!
He's a good professor even though his tests are a little tough.
took western civilization.has the worst test ive ever seen in my 4 years in college, the map test. spits when he talks you may want to sit in the back row. has an accent. the only way i passed his class was the book reports and the essay portions on his tests, which i b.s. on
A giant among geographic scholars.
Worst professor I have ever had in my collegate career. I would rather drive a hour to a different college than take it from him at Tomball.
I made an A in Fox's class. I studied for the map test. I studied for all of the exams that he gave, and I took good notes in his class. If you come to class with the desire to learn and the discipline to work, you will do well in this class. If you want some easy credit..look somewhere else. Fox is the best. Come to him for an education in history.
The class is moderately hard but not if you're willing to study. Not the class to take if you want to breeze through, but you will learn alot.
he's a very nice guy and very passionate about the subject matter, but it was difficult for me to follow along. you spend all the class writing down so many notes that you miss almost everything he says; and by the time you go back and read them over, you don't understand what it is you have written.
I am currently taking an online course from Professor Fox. I can tell you that I have learned a WHOLE LOT. The class is realy intense, but after the first test I got used to the swing of things. He doesn't ask any trick questions, he only asks you what he has told you to study. Very straightfoward.
Great Teacher. Take him if you want to learn history. I took him for nine hours in one semester, I wouldn't do that again, but I learned so much. Take his Map test seriously it is an easiy grade if you do good, an impossible hole to dig yourself out of if you fail the map test. Geography and western civII dont buy the books you dont need them.
The Lectures are hard to take notes on, and the class is a complete bore, and the test was crazy hard. Very uninteresting. Strongly recommend not taking him. I'm willing to work for my grade, but this class is ridiculous, First class I've ever dropped.
EXTREMELY BORING!!!! First class I HAVE EVER DROPPED!! Very stressful!
I was actually suprised at how good this class was. Good teacher, you do have to work a bit though. Thankfully, not just another Western Civ. class (the world part isn't a lie suprisingly..) 'A' able as well as failable heh
Amazing teacher. The class is hard and I only made a C but I leaned a lot. He can be a bit awkward sometimes but he knows the material like the back of his hand and is always glad to answer questions. TAKE THE MAP TEST SERIOUSLY. A good grade on the map test makes the world a better place.
The professor is no professor at all. He is no teacher. He gets up to the front and tries to impress the class with foreign words and dates. He mumbles on and on about completely irrelevant subjects and gives no chance for solid notes. The tests are ridiculous. The questions he asks are too open for a short response. e.g. "Explain theTurmoilInAfric
The first few weeks of class the test seems like it's going to be very hard. The first test is hard as you don't know whats going to be on it. After that, the class is a breeze if you study and take solid notes. I made an A, easy class, great teacher.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! worst teacher i have ever had!! He just stands up there infront of the class and talks, and i know many teachers do that but he just makes me want to fall asleep! his tests are HARD! his essays and the map test were great for me b/c that evened out my grade average. His apperance and the way he talks makes it hard to learn
After finishing community college and looking back, I'm actually quite convinced this was the best teacher I had. Great teacher, you really do learn so much, I hate to see Fox get some bad reviews on here so I had to leave this one :) Lone Star is lucky to have him.
He is a great teacher he tells you what to expect on the test his essays and map test are easy. He has preprinted notes for you. Just don't be lazy and you will have no trouble making an "A" or "B". He gives you way heads up on the test and all his essays.
Good teacher - somewhat hands off but as long as you listen to the lectures and study the maps you'll do fine. All the test questions are given to you ahead of time (30 qs - 10 of which are on the test)and he answers all of the qs in the lectures. 3 test make up entire grade. Great online course - clear cut!
This prof knows his stuff. I've heard from many other professors at Lone Star Tomball that he's the smartest prof there. After taking his class, I agree. I didn't like this class because he's a terrible lecturer. 80 minute class felt like 6 hours. You don't need the textbook, just take a ton of notes (I had 18 pages, single spaced per test, typed.)
im not sure how anyone can learn with the way he teaches but i dont think im going to be able to and i plan to drop. he doesnt involve students to keep you interested, or even awake. he knows his stuff but doesnt make me want to know it too.
Possibly the worst professor ive ever had in my entire college career. Very hands off. Does NOT help students. Highly do not recommend this prof.
worst professor i ever had! i've never made a C on anything until this class. i took notes everyday and listened and still failed half his tests. he doesn't include the students at all. one hour in that class feels like six!! i believe a total of 9 students dropped his class that semester
Even though I had to work hard, I loved his class. It's not for those who want to do as little as possible and still pass. Take thorough notes, the tests are hard. He is incredibly smart, and I've used material I learned in his class in environmental science, world lit, biology and geology. He does lecture a lot, but it's college.
Mr. fox is a great teacher, really smart. if you take notes and know his map test frontward and backward you will do fine.
Mr. Fox knows his stuff but he doesn't keep you interested at all. He just stands there & talks & it's very hard to stay focused. I passed his class with an A & thought it wasn't too hard as long as you studied hard. KNOW the map test!! i didn't use any of the books. just spark note the books & write a lot on tests & you'll be fine.
Mr. Fox definitely knows his stuff, but he doesn't exactly know how to teach it. Take this class if you can take notes extremely well and really want to learn a lot about history. If you're just taking history because it's required for your degree, I would suggest you find a different teacher.
No testbooks. Print his lectures and come to class for more details. Tests are quite hard with event match-up and 2 essay questions. You have to memorize a lot of days for match-up. He gives you a list of 9-10 questions (1 question per lesson) before test for preparing. Quite hard. Have to read a lot of books for 2 assignments.
I'm not a great note taker and when it came time for the first test, I was sure I wasn't gonna do well. Dropped the class while I still had to chance.
do not take his class if you are not a good test taker. you have a total of 4 tests and 2 essays over books(easy) the whole semester. almost my whole entire class dropped. all of his tests are memorization. his lectures are right off of angel and he knows his stuff but can't teach and won't help you when you need it. passing his class is HARD.
you don't use text book or the 4 novels at all...spark notes : ) he can't and doesn't teach...he just stands at the front of the class and talks. it's almost impossible to stay focused because it's so boring. his tests are all memorization. at the beginning of the semester (august) we had 32 people in the class and by november we had 13 people left
Pay attention and take notes. Class isn't hard if you just listen, even though it is hard to listen... Gives a midterm, a book assignment, and a final. Light workload. He is a little smelly, though... I didn't think he was awful.
Long lectures; but as long as you take notes, you can go back and study them later for the test. One paper- I could handle that- especially w/ my classes scheduled the way they were.
VERY easy grader but he really does nothing for you at the beginning of the year tells you what you need and that's it, it's up to you and doesn't really help after that.
His Class Is Boring, Everybody Sleeps, Feels Like You Spent a whole day in his class, talks VERY loud, not a good Lecturer at all, DO NOT TAKE I REPEAT IF YOU ARE A FRESHMAN AND ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD PROFESSOR I ASSURE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, WORST PROFESSOR ALIVE!!!!!!!
Prof. Fox is a passionate, interesting lecturer with a lot of character and an incredible knowledge of the material being taught. A lot of the negative comments here come from whiny, lazy students who expect free A's. He tells you from day 1 exactly what to expect from his class. If he taught at a 4yr school, I would take more classes he taught.
This guy is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable. U wont fail because of sub par teaching and tests irrelevant to the lecture. Not a free A. You have papers on books and tests as your grade. No extra credit. But if u just do the work he tells you exactly how to pass. No surprises on tests, its all on online review. Study notes, follow instructions=A. Simple
I did not like this teacher at all. He is very boring and has no people skills. His tests cover way too much material and he expects you to do 3 in class papers for each test. Do not take this professor.
Great, knowledgable expert in history... Not so much when it comes to teaching. If you like sleeping through 2 hr lectures then this is your class because his tests are nothing like the lectures. And he posts the notes online for you... So you never miss a thing!
if you can get passed his bodily functions and uncontrollable grunting you might enjoy this class. he knows his stuff and is very passionate about the subject. tests are super hard and rely on memory - study study study! dont take his notes - print his lectures ;)
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED! super easy grader, doesnt care if you sleep or if you need to leave early. no homework. this class is straight lecture but he is an AWESOME teacher! take this course!
He is a good teacher, but his test have nothing to do with the lectures you have to remeber so much dates.
His lectures are very boring, the exams all essay, you choose from 14 topics, and you can write on 2 of the 4 presented. You have to put the work in to pass the class, I hated it but finished with a B even though I worked so hard for an A. Do what he tells you to do, study, and read and you will be fine.
Mr. Fox is a very nice man even though his lectures are sort of dry! His lectures follow his lecture outlines almost exactly, BUT he does add onto them in class. The tests are about 25 memorized dates and 2 essays. Was NOT that hard of a class, Got a 98 in the class. Easy, take him!
GREAT history teacher, the lecture is perfection, the test are difficult - you muct study your notes. Wish all professors could teach as well. If you are looking for easy test this class is not for you. If you want to know about history - this is the right class.
I took his class online. Overall, didnt have any problems. Very clear in his lesson plans. I just hated reviewing the essays for test. You review 9 but only test over 1. You arent aware of which one till you are taking the test. I hardly ever got the essays correct. Also the tests where proctored. But good teacher. I recommend.
This Professor was very easy. If you do the reading that he assigns and study the practice quizzes and your essay questions for each section your will make and A. I passed with an A. very very easy.
His tests are freaking ridiculous! He gives you a "test preview" with 40 something dates to match with an event, he then only picks 20 of them to put on the test, also he gives you 8 or 9 essay questions to answer, he then picks 4 to put on the test and you then pick 2 to answer. And when he says essay he wants like full essays like 4-5 paragraphs!
No textbook required. Super easy, all memorization.
My only complaint is that he tests you on his information, which may or may not actually be correct. (totally fine with this if they're always right, history is supposed to be seen and interpretted by us, the facts are the facts though) Also, he must not proof read his typed text because the errors are abundant.
I took his online class - which I don't recommend! His notes are incomprehensible. Questions on the quizzes are usually left-field, leaving you guessing. Don't bother with the book. Very inflexible for an online class! Proctored testing - HASSLE. Counts off on essays with no feedback. Easy to pass, practically impossible to get an A. Stay away!
He is fair and will help you when needed/asked. Likes for student to try and figure out material with other students. Test are just like the quizzes and essays. So no surpises. Wish he did HIST 1302. I took the online class.
If you like preparing for tests with 8 practice essays (only two on test) and incomprehensible questions ON the test, this is your guy! First drop of my life!!
it was a good class to do your homework in. basically his class could be taken online because everything he says in class is on MYLONESTAR all semester long from day one he wouldnt answer my questions when i was confused he uses a big vocabulary so brush up if you'll take his class. he takes attendence basically for a grade so be there.
Once you get the hang of Professor Fox's teaching style, it's all uphill from there. Professor Fox gives you all of the necessary tools to pass his tests such as study guides online and typed lectures through Angel. As long as you memorize the dates and are able to answer the questions from the study guide, you should be good to go.
This class was ridiculous. He said that history was "interpretative" and so we were to learn his interpretations. Meaning that nothing coincided with the textbook. Also, you're expected to complete 90 questions and 9 essays (all for no grade) just to study for each test. My first drop ever and I'm halfway through my degree.
If you like rote learning with no class interaction, and LOTS of independent work, this is the class for you. You will have to memorize about 150 dates, & do around 25 practice essays, plus 2 book reports. There's a helpful study tool for this class on youtube. You have to search for it b'cz they don't allow links to be posted here. No textbk used.
This class was extremely BORING! And he doesn't even CARE that you're asleep in his class or on Facebook. And it doesn't help the fact that attendance is mandatory (you're allowed 4 absences then he drops your grade a letter after that). His tests really aren't that bad, just a lot of tedious work and memorization (2/4 essays & 25 matching dates).
Very easy class, all notes are online and test previews are online. Grades very easily. The class its self is boring but jus t bring something to entertain yourself with. DONT buy book you wont use it.
Professor Fox's online class is easy and informative. After ready the syllabus I was a bit overwhelmed; however when I began the online quizzes I learned how to study for the Unit Tests. The Unit Test questions come directly from the quizzes. All of his notes are online in the D2L course. Take quizzes, study essay questions, take tests. Simple.
Dr. Fox is a fair professor. He has good knowledge and tons of time teaching under his belt. Not the best but not the worst. Would more than likely take him again.
Incredibly easy, all multiple choice questions are given to you with answers before the test, and all essay prompts are given to you in advance.
You don't have to take notes during class because he uploads all his lectures online. He even shows you exactly what to expect on the tests, and he only requires two papers at only 1,000 words. Easy class; highly recommended.
If you like to read then you will get an A. His test are easy, except for the essays. I dont read my book and i'm making a B. Tests have the same questions as the practice test. The only thing I dont like about this class that we only have 5 Tests and 1 paper. So you have to do well on everything to get an A. Test are taken in testing centers.
Professor Fox was clear as crystal: read the lectures, do the practice quiz, pass the tests. As a bonus there were no silly "forum discussions" for "participation".
I really enjoyed this class! It was very easy and I feel like I learned a lot. He provides lessons over the units and optional quizzes to test your knowledge of the lessons. The test questions are taken directly from the quizzes so there's no surprises. No need to buy the text book either, everything you need to know is in the lessons he gives you
The course was fairly easy. Do your quizzes, you'll pass the tests.
Best History class ever taken. If you study your quizzes you will pass your tests.
I've taken Fox for 1301 and 1302 History. Let me give you the formula for passing. DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO LECTURES. Study the dates for the test, and google the essays, and you will get an A... guaranteed. The easiest teacher I've ever had. Definitely a GPA booster. I don't believe in an easy A, but this class is an exception.
Took the course with the added international studies aspect. Paying attention to the lectures is recommended to understand all essay assignments, unless you want to be cheap and google your way through the class. He cares a lot about history and it shows in his lectures. Get a head start reading the assigned books, they are not page turners!
eh, it was an alright course do your quizzes you'll be fine. Don't waste your money on the book you will NEVER use it. All test are taken at campus.
Lectures honestly don't correlate with the tests at all (only 3 tests), but they're still fun to sit and listen to! Definitely passionate about what he teaches. Don't bother buying the text book, but definitely read the assigned books ahead of time so you aren't scrambling last minute.
His class was great. In the beginning he said you need the book for the class -you don't- you can easily read all his lectures and he uploads all the books that you need to read for the 1000 word essays. Pretty easy class if you want an easy A, but not challenging at all.
nice guy. does go on and on about the subject which makes it feel like forever but it's a history class so what do you expect? still nice professor and you wont feel overwhelmed with what he gives you if you take notes and do assignments(the few there are)
AMAZING. He post lecture outlines online that you can print out and supplement w/ the lecture. He follows the syllabus exactly, so no surprises. Lectures are start to finish of class, but are thorough and organized. Test reviews are a great sneak peak at the test if you bother to do them. Basically, show up, take notes, and study.. you'll get an A.
20 matchings on exam day and 2 essays(24hr to submit) on every exam. lecture outlines are posted on the website word-for-word for you to follow through easily. i always finished the essays on time even though it got a bit tiring but you should be fine if already looked through his lecture notes. lectures can get boring. no extra credit. easy grader
Awesome. I enjoyed taking Humanities with Professor Fox. From day one he posts all the lecture materials on d2l and testable materials so you can study. I found the lectures really because it goes from prehistory to the medieval times. It is pretty easy as long as you record the lectures and study. Be sure to come to class.
Easy and straight forward. Read the lectures, answer the essay prompt for each section and make flashcards of the quiz question/answers to study and you'll make an A. His lectures are interesting and insightful. He seems super chill. I highly suggest taking his class
Did not find this class to be as easy as the reviews said. There was a lack of structure and the answer to every single question on the practice quizzes were the same. (For example, on quiz #1 questions 1-10 would all be choice A.) I took five online courses last semester and did well in all of them except his. Not terrible, but wouldn't retake him
There are 5 tests and a few essays. This class is REALLY easy, very little homework on a weekly basis. It is important to study properly for the tests, so start a week in advance. He doesn't grade essays hard at all as long as they meet the criteria. His lectures were kinda boring, I always did math homework during them. He's pretty easy.
Mr. Fox is great! He is super easy, yet is so insightful in his lectures. He makes everything clear and helps you to pass his class. I made in easy A in his class. Just make sure you read ALL the points on his study guides on D2L and you'll make an easy A too!
i feel as if he makes stuff up and all he does is talk... super boring lectures and youll probably fall asleep
Very boring lectures because he isn't engaging with students at all. Quite intimidating, actually. Everything you need is on D2L. He gives you the answer to each essay question in his lecture, so lectures are important. Did not use textbook at all. He assigns two books to read, and write a 1000 word essay for each.
I really enjoyed having Mr. Fox as my professor. Besides the fact that his lectures were very very boring and there were a lot of papers to write, they were not difficult at all. Basically, if you do them and show you tried, you'll do fine. Tests are super easy, just have to memorize dates and write 2 papers. Easy A. I highly recommend
Wow This professor really knows what he is doing. Professor Fox is organized and comes in a timely manner. It was intense because the concepts was a bunch of information and we had to understand it in short semester other but it is not impossible. I find it pretty easy because it is straightforward. 2 essays, 3 tests and a take home section.
Clifton Fox is the best one for me. The lectures are pretty boring but you have to do nothing understanding history. Tests are 3, everything on D12. First I failed the test but got B at last. this is something great. I like his way of teaching. At least I did not have to regret taking his class. Now I am taking 1302 with his this semester.
Dr. Fox is a different guy but in a way you will learn more from him than any other professor on the fact that he LOVES history. His jokes aren't really that funny but some are and he loves to lecture so don't think that you'll be getting out of class 30 minutes early. His whole lecture is online word by word. Easy grader and tests are simple.
Super disappointed - no powerpoints, no notes, just extremely long lectures yet insists you be present for every single one. The tests have NO correlation to historical events, it's strictly just memorizing dates and then writing essays. No outside help, no extra credit, no additional grades, just three tests and 2 super long essays.
This is one of the easiest classes i've ever taken. The testing system is a little different but really really easy. This guy is passionate about history and you can tell by his story telling in his lectures. its easy to follow along in class but he doesn't answer questions mid class. a couple essays and your grade is set for the semester
This guy is quite the character. He has a very passionate view on history and it shows in his lectures. Some call them boring, but as a story teller and narrator, he knows how to spice up the facts with flavor. There are a lot of essays, including two over required readings, but as long as you put forth effort and study for the tests you'll pass.
This man only lectures, there are no PowerPoint's or visual aids. Only 3 tests and 6 short take home essays. He is rude when you ask questions, he gives short answers or no answer at all. If the answer is on the syllabus or online he expects you to already know the answer. When he takes a sip of his drink he smacks his lips multiple times *cringe*
He is extremely boring. He only lectures, he gives no visual aids. He makes up a seating chart for each class and that is how he takes attendance. The books that are required for book reports are boring as well. His tests were easy though, he gave a review of events, in class you match the event with the year, then go home & write 2 essays.
This professor was really knowledgable about history and is passion about history. The way he lectures is so unique. He is also very organized by posting notes, syllabus, and test previews on d2l from the beginning to the end of the semester. Very laid back professor.
Teacher had a very clear instructions . We did read through the entire textbook. Must read to pass tests but other then that tests weren't difficult. No trick questions.
he gives you lots of time to complete assignments. For an ALL online class you have to take the tests in a testing center, which he wasnt very clear about. He wasnt on top of answering my questions. For the test you will have 27 questions out of the 90 questions from the quizzes, 1 essay out of the 9 essays that were assigned.
If you don't like lectures, not for you. The only hard thing is the multiple-choice part of the test, which you do need to study for. No book, he posts lecture notes online. Clear guidelines for the test essays. He's funny and lectures like he's telling a story about an old friend. If you pay attention, you can find some real gems of history.
I really wish I would have reviewed this teacher before having blindly chosen him. I am sure he is well suited for some, but not for everyone. He dishes out large amounts of content in small portions, and several online ungraded quizzes. Though the questions he asks on his tests are scattered and taken from all different quizzes creating issues.
Professor Fox's class is easy for the most part but he has you write 2 review essays during the semester. But if you don't do exactly what he says he'll give you a zero. One of mine was short by 100 words and he gave me a zero. But his actual tests are just matching years to events and 2 shorts essays you have 24 hours to write.
Don't buy the textbook you won't touch it. All of his tests correspond to his online lectures, which are incredibly informative! Multiple choice. Take his practice quizzes and you will pass. The quizzes however are all answer choice A, so its's hard to study them on D2l. Luckily, his exacts tests are on quizlet so study those instead. SUPER EASY A!
I took this class online over the summer he require all the exams to be taking in the testing center i have no issuse w/ that other than i was out of the country for the first 2 weeks of summer i assuming everything was online i had wifi and thought it would be fine but missed 20% on 2 exams bc of it wish i had known i had to go to the center
I took him for a 6 week summer course and it wasn't difficult at all. He's very lecture heavy but doesn't use powerpoints or videos so it's kinda boring to sit through. There were 3 tests that were a matching timeline with 2 essays and then he makes you read 2 books for 2 review essays. Overall an easy grader as long as you don't plagiarize.
clear instructions and due dates and penalties up front. Hands out ALL the material. Instead of 98 pages in the text book, 6 pages written lecture to read(!) practice quiz at the end, WITH THE ANSWERS! Memorize answers. Use quizlet flash cars. Know the essay answers. Test is answers from quizzes and 1 essay. write a 5 paragraph essay100%
His teaching style may suit some, but most, you'll find yourself falling asleep in class and crying yourself to sleep at night after the ridiculous essay prompts that he grades incredibly hard. The only grades in his class are tests, so you have to do good. Which is kind of hard considering his reviews are only somewhat relative to the test.
The professor tends to ramble and doesn't use many examples and visuals. Most like you will end up falling asleep. The class is very easy to pass though and the tests are pretty consistent. Essays are done at home and submitted online so there is no pressure to cram it in one class period.
Online class - 5 tests and 1 final essay. Test questions/answers in quiz sets. 9 essay topics in each of the first 4 chapters, 4 essay topics in 5th chapter. Only one essay on each test chosen at random. Test essays can be a bit challenging, but an A is possible if you take the time to study. Don't buy the book - all info accessible online.
This class was VERY boring and lecture heavy. One good thing is that he does post all of the answers for the test on his website so it was pretty easy to get a good grade. Do not get the book, I didn't use it at all.
If youre looking for a very basic professor, here you are. Hes fine, but he does not spice up history in the least. Hes fairly boring. He doesnt do any grades besides his tests and project. If you study the reviews, its the same jazz. Hes an easy A. Showing up is vital, even if you dont think its vital. Just show up and get an A.
Fox has to be the toughest grader I've ever encountered. Quizzes and tests are easy, but the essay questions are a nightmare. He'll give you a zero, and not answer his emails when you ask what you're doing wrong. I had to take HIST 1301 with him TWICE before I passed.
He has really clear system - 5 tests and the course essay, all the questions are posted with answers. No book needed, he posts pdf's with 5 pages of needed material. I took this class online, loved it. A little bit of memorization and you'll pass. He is not a tough grader. Just do the assignment and he'll give you the highest grade. The easiest 100
Not a tough grader at all. Very easy A considering the fact that all the questions used for the tests are posted with answers in advance
This is my third class with him and i I would want him to teach me in every subject. He post test previews on the D2L and thats basically all you need to study to pass! He is super easy and if you pay attention he is very sweet and funny!
Second time taking this professor for History. I would reccommend him because it's an easy A. He posts test reviews on D2l and they're the exact items that are on the test. 40% of the test is an essay with no set word requirment and its an easy 100. 40% is date matching events to dates. 20% is a map you have to memorize. Don't buy textbook.
This professor is awful. His lectures are incredibly boring, he doesn't engage his class, there is no powerpoint, and you will find yourself wanting to scream in class. He only grades based off of tests and one project at the end of the semester, so you have to do well on the tests. He puts things on the test that he didn't even lecture about.
Took him online. Decent history material that you self teach. Material isnt hard. Study his quizes because they are exactly like the test. No weekly discussion posts. 5 tests and one major paper due at the end of the semester. Easy grader as long as its obvious that you put for some sort of effort. Prompt on email and disscusion board questions.
"meh" class. You have to attend. 5 tests (with test previews on D2L) of 30 dates and 20 rivers. I used quizlet for the dates & Scribble Maps for the rivers and got A's. He posts lectures, use them for the test essays. Review the end of year project way before it's due, there is a lot to read. His lectures are super lame, I wasnt inspired.
took him for online summer. He is very specific about what he wants and how he grades it. No surprises. Lots of reading from the preloaded pdf's but I feel like I have a good understanding about the History period. Good organized professor.
Very great . I loved the class and the teacher is EXCILLENT
This class was extremely hard for me. I struggled looking for the text book he wanted. I couldnt order it and have the book in time. I would recommend taking this class for a full semester not a summer class. Too much to read in a weeks time. I had to drop him to keep my GPA high.
Fox is one of the most frustrating teachers i've ever had. Grade is made up of 5 tests, and a final essay. 40% of each test is locating rivers. Rivers are irrelevant to his lectures, which are all over the place anyway. It's an ok class if you don't mind memorizing, but his lectures are so hard to sit through. I would not re-take.
I took his class online. This professor is horrible. His whole semester consist of 5 tests with ridiculously specific essay prompts and a final essay that you have to read 2 books to write. Plus, he never mentions in the syllabus you have to read these books. Brought my GPA down for no reason, and he is impossible to get a hold of.
Mr. Fox is quite a character. Nice guy but his tests are insane. Especially when we switched to online, the questions were nearly impossible even if you did study. In person, the tests were ok but you have to know a bunch of rivers and dates. Waste of time. Look for another professor.
I took Professor Fox during the summer for 6 weeks. Honestly, was not bad at all. His layout is straight to the point. If you actually do the work and dont procrastinate, its a guaranteed A. Take him! You wont regret it
I took his 6 wk class online. Weekly tests consisted of multiple choice questions and two essays. He literally gives the answers to all of the multiple choice questions in quizzes. Final project was easy, just read the required material. I read the textbook, but it really wasnt needed. Use his handouts for the essay and quizzes.
Dropping this class after 4 weeks. He just uploads material and checks out. I studied for the test and made a 6/50. Gives you 50 minutes to write TWO 5 paragraph essays. DO NOT RECOMMEND
5 Tests. Just memorize like 40 dates/events and 20 rivers. His river pictures r terrible, I used arcgis map for rivers n print them out and quizlet for dates/events. Essay in each test n he allows like 2 days to turn it in online. Lectures are SO boring. Learned nothing attending. Very organized n has all the lecture notes on d2l but hard to read.
I took hist 1301 8weeks online and I wouldnt recommend if youre taking a lot of other classes. He only grades test A & B and a project. I wouldnt take this class in person please just trust me. Part A of the test in matching and part B is 2 essays in 50 mins. He gives you 5 prompts so if you just write them before and paste in youll be fine.
there is 5 test which has two sections the first part is 25 matching questions and the second half is two 5 paragraph essays. However, I don't think he actually reads the essays. they are timed test he gives 30 minutes for matching and an hour for the essays. also, don't buy a book you won't use it. and a paper final at the end of the course. EASY
Professor Fox made U.S. History to 1877 so much easier than I expected. I have already signed up to take his next course on campus next semester and look forward to learning more about a subject I didn't care to learn about previously. You won't regret taking his class if you just read the lectures he provides.
I dropped this class 5 days after the class opened. He only does audio lectures that are 1 to 2 hrs long. There are soooo many notes to read. The test is 50 mins to write two 5 paragraph essays and 30 mins for a matching test. Literally the hardest class I had to do so I dropped it because I did not want it to mess up my GPA. I DO NOT recommend
I took a summer online class. There are only tests and essays both timed. Long as you know the material you will do great! Make sure you read the book. I am taking him later this fall semester! He plans everything out perfectly and not a lot at once. He very respectful and caring!
I would not recommend taking his history 1301 class online. He might be better in person but it was so much work
Get ready to read if your going to take this class. He gives you about two weeks for each chapter so that helps. Make sure you read the textbook and his notes are super helpful. His audio lectures help.
Prof. Fox had us buy a text book but we never used it. All tests (which was our only grades) were directly from his heavy lecture notes which are dictated from his recorded lectures so they are typed the way he speaks. So many errors, hard to read. He graded our final for grammar and punctuation when his is horrible. I got an 89.7, didn't round. B
Would not recommend this professor at ALL. He gives all material to you to read, but its typed how he says it in his audio files he gives you to learn the material. The audio files are 2-3 hours long. Tests are 50 minutes and 2 different parts, first one is date matching and second part is an essay. 50 minutes is not long enough for all of it.
Assignments: Final & 5 Essays - split w matching events and years & two essays. Due every two weeks. He gives you the event names and years. He gives you 4 essay prompts that it could be. I dont think he reads the essays. Just meet the 5 paragraphs he request. Got 100s on almost all. Watched YouTube videos to type essays. Not too bad of a class.
Although his voice-over lectures are quite long he is pretty upfront about what you need to know to pass his exams. Tests are split up into two parts; matching and two essays. He gives you a list of possible essay topics that can be asked and a list of the important dates to know for each exam so you pretty much have a set basis to go off on.
Do Not choose this professor if you are not already a history buff! For every test you are expected to write two 5 paragraph essays in 50 minutes. 4-5 topics are given ahead of time and 2 will be on test. Thats 4-5 essays per week!! ZERO reminders of due dates, NO extra credit, LONG lectures, WILL NOT reopen any tests
Professor Fox was amazing! I took him over the summer, completely online. History is not my favorite course but he made it super easy and stress free. We were assigned lectures and reading, then a test due every Friday. Basically, if you did the reading the class was an easy A. I was able to have a full summer, and still make time for his class.
It's all open book. Print his notes & test preview. Answer all essay questions ahead of time. Write year from Test Preview next to the paragraph in the notes as reference. Received 100% every test. Never read the book except to reference one or two things (e-version was searchable). I also really enjoyed his lectures.
This was my second time taking professor Fox. Both times I was very satisfied. Clear on what he wants you to know and what specifically you will be tested on. I took his 5-week course and again, he tells you early on exactly what you need to study for tests, so making a passing grade was fairly simple. Both times I took his classes online.
He's a great professor and tells you everything you need to know to do well on his tests. 10/10 would take another one of his classes.
Do the work and do not delay getting stuff done. You need to do all the readings he gives you so you can pass the class. I honestly did slack due to the load of classes I had (will never do that again). He gives you plenty of time to do the readings and it's up to you to do what you need to do to pass the class.
I just used his lectures to answer the essay questions before test and copy/paste. The other part of the test is matching years to events. I printed out all his lectures and wrote the year in the margin where it was referenced. It was an easy process of elimination. Loved his perspective!
Professor Fox is overall a good professor. He was very clear about his expectations. I took his 3 week course, and it wasn't too hard. (5) 2-part tests and (1) document project. The first part was just matching the event to the year, and the second part was 2 essay questions. As long as you listen to lectures and read the handouts, you'll be okay!
Professor provided us a test review for each week. The test reviews consisted of historical events and 5 essay questions having to deal with the lessons of the week. I highly recommend working on the essay questions during the week, so that the time limit in the essay section won't stress you out. Class is fair and very simple!
Second time taking a class with this professor, I would take another if I could. My class was strictly online, so at the end of the day it boiled down to how much I was willing to teach myself. Personally, I never listened to lectures, I just read the material, took notes, and took his tests. no homework, just a matching and essay test. fair grader
He great professor and give you a lot of specific notes and talks to understand on the topic and he his great teacher and I recommend him
Overall if you do the work you will make a good grade. He gives you everything you need to know ahead of time. Did not need the textbook except for a few references, print his test previews ahead of time 2 tests per week 1 matching and 2 5 paragraph essays which are timed
This is a very easy class! that being said he is an awful lecturer. None of the material was engaging at all very boring class! attendance is mandatory. Every class half of the students would walk out before the end of class. Only take this class if you want to completely disengage from learning, which half the students did! Take at your own risk.
Exam Qs and essays come from review. Tests are timed, but answers come from notes so find it fast. Tests are matching event to year, but are worded incorrectly at times and asked twice with different dates so use basic logic to get the answer. 3 of the 5 essays are due at each exam. Uses TurnItIn to grade essays. So work on it asap. Easy A.
There is no homework in the class but you will have to write 5 essays and they have to be 5 paragraphs each. However if you like to write this would be a good class to take.
You have to write a lot of essays.
he gives you a test review with five essay questions, you have to write all five for the test, but he only accepts two out of the five. all his grades are tests. if you miss four classes he drops you grade down a letter grade.
Get ready to write, because for every single test you need to write five essays (except the last one where you only write three) and you only receive an actual grade for two of them. He has a strict attendance policy and the lectures are not engaging and for the most part not really worth going to. The final project is extensively reading heavy
I found myself in a financial bind that left me without a vehicle. His lectures are all online, and the only grades were the tests - which were also online. He was unwilling to give me a grace period of a week to get my vehicle situation sorted and forced me to drop the class. This left me even further in debt and in a worse financial situation. :(
This class relies heavily on lectures, with grading through two tests per unit: Test A (25 matching questions) and Test B (two essays). A benefit of the essay section is the test preview, offering five potential topics. Preparing responses allows for easy copy-pasting during the test.
This class has a lot of writing, but the test format allows you to prepare ahead of time. The lectures are a bit dry, but using Unstuck AI and reviewing the test preview can help you ace the exams.
Extremely lecture heavy, if you wanna take Prof. Fox, I'd advice to get ready to pay attention and read a lot. The way he does exams are either frustrating or stress-filled at first, but after a while, you get used to it. I don't think I'd take him again, as his lectures were very long, boring, and mundane.
I ended the semester with two Microsoft Word documents (general tests and final exam). The general test document now has over 10,000 words and 50 pages of writing, while the final has 2,000 words and requires intense reading. He does not give feedback on essays, so I am unsure what I did wrong on the two that received a B. I would not do it again.
Very stressful. Not very understanding or nice to students. For every test, you write 5 essays to prepare for 2 questions & he's inconsistent in his grading. For the final project, we write 1000 words about 12 readings. Attendance is very mandatory; if you are absent/late (even 1 min. late) more than 4 times he drops your grade by a whole letter.
If you're late more than 4 times, doesn't matter the reason, your grade will get dropped down a letter each time. Even if you're 1 minute late. The lectures he is passionate about, and he appreciates when the students wait till he is finished before leaving. But they are very long, and don't have any room for student engagement.
Tough grader and isn't reliable when you need help or have questions. Relies too much on Turnitin, I spend 2 months writing my paper for the final exam and he failed me.
