This teacher is brand new this semester, and i'd just thought i'd add him.. He seems to be great already. Post notes online and is very willing to make our job as students easier. But its only a couple weeks into school so I guess we'll see
He's a good prof. You have to study to do well. He gives lots of points to help you out. But if you study he's awesome and helps you out when you need it.
He is rather new. I like his laid back California (where he is from) attitude. Sometimes his tests can be deceiving. If you go to his office hours, he will help you out the best he can. I think he's awesome!
BAD TEACHER REALLY BAD
For being new, he is definetly into improving anyway he can to help students. It's nice to have a teacher give a damn about students' feedback this much. His tests are still new for everyone, but there really isn't too much of a surprise since his lecture compromise ofmainly notes. He also gives you onlines quizes, guides, and Q's to study from.
Personally, I dont understand how anyone could say anything bad about him.. at least not for micro. He is brand new and he asks for our anonymous feedback throughout the semester... for extra credit! Yes you will have to study but its biology... He gives you study guides and if you know whats on them, you will get a good grade. No suprises!
Not a blow off class, make sure to attend every lecture, don't take this class unless you have had chemistry and biology background
Professor Franklund is a very helpful and respectable professor. He always resonds to emails, phone calls, and his office hours. there is a thousand points in the class so if you completley fail the first test you have time to make it up.
Good Teacher...gives a lot of extra points..can use a notecard on tests..lab quizzes are tricky.I am getting a A..It is an easy class for the most part!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! he acts like this is the only class you have. feels like engl. 400 because of all the papers you have to write. if you can take some one else he is the worst.
Dr. Franklund is a pretty decent professor. He teaches a hard subject with difficult subject matter and makes it as easy as he can. We were allowed to use one notecard on every exam. He also let us do "post exams" to boost our exam scores. Overall, he's a pretty good guy!
He is a very good teacher. He gives a lot of oppotunities to get a good grade in the class and he is very helpful outside of class time.
Pretty much the coolest uncle ever.
The class is hard, but he offers so much extra credit I think anyone should be able to get an "A".
Dr. Franklund is not that hard! Like most biology courses, you NEED to study for his class. He gives a lot of extra credit (115 points), so you can get all Cs on his exams and still pull an A. His lab quizzes are a bit difficult. Take SLA if you can fit it into your schedule. The facilitator helps a lot.
Franklund is the man...his tests are very fair and the amount of extra credit given makes it extremely hard not to get an A in the class. My love for him is gram positive. I would not be upset if he was the carrier of my children...at least they wouldn't ever be sick long
He is a great professor. He is very helpful. He does offer a ton of extra credit. I would recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Franklund is a great professor...he is a nice man and easily approachable if you need help and he will help you all he can...he is very organized and class is great
Class was kind of boring. Make sure you take him for lab and not Gizachew. He is very knowledgable and is a GREAT person. Tests are challenging. Stock up on EC points. He keeps all grades updated online, so you always know where you stand gradewise.
Great professor!! Offers lots of extra credit and other small points that can help your grade out ALOT! He gives you tons of study aids and there is no way you can fail this course with him teaching!
very good prof!
Amazing prof! He gives you lots of notes and study aids, plus a good amount of extra credit ("bonus points"). Sometimes he talks a little much, but he is a nice guy and is there to help his students if you need it. 4 tests at 100 points each help so that you can mess up a little and still get a good grade! Definately take him for med micro!!!
Pretty much I love him! He is great :]] He is very helpful and makes it possible to pass the class! He offers alot of bonus points and study aids. Very good professor...take him if you can!!!
He's a great teacher. Gives alot of work to be done to get your grade up. Very helpful, you just have to ask. Very great teacher overall.
I think I creep him out. He always looks very wary at me. He offered make-up points after exams in our class. Research papers sucked, but what papers don't? Tests can be a pain in the butt, a lot of information to remember. He likes you to know structures and sizes of things...
HE DOES NOT HAVE A LISP!!!!
Really good prof. Class with a lot of points avble. Likes group projects.
This teacher is awesome he will explain anything you want to you and make it so a 5 year old can understand. He may seem disorganized but he is more organized then any other teacher at Ferris. He really likes what he teaches and it makes the class fun. And his fish/boats/hawaiian shirts are amazing
Dr. Franklund is a great teacher, and could talk about microbiology for hours. I really enjoyed his class, especially the lab aspect. He offers a ton of points, but watch out for his exams, they are brutal. I pulled off an A- with a 68 and 72 on two of my exams.
Nice Teacher. Very unorganized but what teacher isnt. Tests are exteremly hard but gives you plenty of other assignments and opportunities to get your grade up. All in all it was a hard class and Im glad its done but he was a fair teacher.
He is a good prefessor. The material is difficult, but doable. He offers tons of extra credit. I would reccomend him.
A lot of people hate on Dr. Franklund, but it's only because they are lazy.If you actually do work you should be fine.Tests are pretty hard, but he offers tons of extra credit and easy projects to bring your grade up.SLA is very helpful with the material, but either way it's an okay class, just a lot of material.
I don't know why people complain about this class being hard. Compared to my organic chem and my anatomy/physiology class. This was my slack off class. I made it to half the class. Got an A- (Avg' 78% on my 3 test)gave 100pt extra credit, powerpoints are bolded so you study bolded material and thats on the test! impossible to fail!
very good profeesor, but lazy. Yo will learn a lot by taking his class. exams are multiple choice, word bank, sequening ques, use clicker, lots of extra credits, easy to get an A, if u read his notes, attend lectures and labs regulary. Group projects and assignments are very easy, helpful too build up ur grades.
Hard to get a good grade summer term but I did love the class.
AMAZING! if you r taking biol 108 take Franklund! He really knows what he is teaching and has a passion for it,also SUPER helpful and hilarious!! gives over 100 points in extra credit, THAT'S ONE WHOLE EXAM!although to get good grade you do have to really apply yourself, do not procrastinate because exams are killer but labs are easy and really fun
i would recommend him except for one thing, his poster project. i had to spend the entire time working on it. It totally effected my grade. i would have gotten an A if it wasn't for his poster project. so...my recommendation is don't take him unless it's the only class you have, and even then you should find someone else.
He is a good professor, is funny but it dry humor but still makes you laugh. very cool guy especially in lab. i would recommend him to everyone
VERY HARD CLASS. He puts WAYY to much information on each of the exams, they are almost impossible to pass. The good things about his class is that he gives a lot of extra credit and the quizzes are online and you can take them as many times as you'd like. But, I have heard there is another teacher that is a lot easier.
dr. franklund loves microbiology so he makes class interesting. make sure you are prepared to study because his tests are impossible to get a good grade on. but he offers a ton of extra credit. i got Ds on all of the tests and managed to get a B in the class. i would take him because of all the extra credit and he is just funny and loves his job
A man who can embrace his inner nerd. This is what Dr. Franklund is!!! He gives significant amounts of extra credit so if you bomb tests, it is definitely not the end of the world. It takes a few weeks to get used to his unique style, but once u do, u really appreciate him. He gives a lot of hw (first half) but it really helps!
I like this proff. but his tests are impossible! I have never gotten less than an A in a Bio class and I was very lucky to pull a B. I didn't care for the extra credit because I feel I shouldn't have to just barely pass a class based on extra credit! I want to pass in based on the exams and know I actually learned something! Lab was GREAT!
Funny teacher, made me slightly interested in micro, but its still a really lame class. Hes REALLY helpful! always around if you need to talk about class. really hard tests. lab quizes are really simple, even the practical is easy! final exam is questions from previos tests. gives quick feedback on tests/quizes. uses ferrisconnect a lot!!!
Dr. Franklund is a great guy. He's a lot of fun and knows his stuff. Tests are very hard and he goes through notes very quickly in lecture. He provides a lot to make sure you can pass though. Personally, I'm glad I took it with him.
if you're in it for micro- GOOD LUCK. impossible pre-exam online quizzes and even harder tests. I'm an a student with consistent D's on exams. good guy, ridiculous class. chapters are ~40pgs long, 6 or 7 chapters per test- enjoy.
Test are VERY hard. Gives online homework for every chapter, easy points..just don't get behind, they are time consuming. Having experiance with other micro teachers, I would recommend him over the others.
Wonderful professor. Very funny, nice, and a self-proclaimed nerd. The course is challenging and should be 2 semesters, but exams are very fair and he gives lots of opportunities for points and extra credit. Seems like a lot at first but try not to stress. Labs are fun and helpful. He's a great guy and I'll miss being in his class.
Great at lecturing. Labs are actually relevant. Class was challenging and tests were hard. My scores ranged from 66% to 80%. A lot of extra credit is given to compensate for the difficulty though. I ended up with a B in the class. I recommend Dr. Franklund and would definitely have him again.
Dr. Franklund is one of the nicest professors you'll ever come across. Tests were somewhat difficult, but if you studied the notes well, you could easily average an 80, and as long as you got at least 75-80 on all of the tests, his extra credit should definitely bring you up to an A easily.
Tests are really hard but as long as you do the online homework you will do fine.
He was a great professor. I liked the class. The only bad thing about it is that the tests are really hard. But the homeworks and labs really even it out and help a lot,
Gives 80 pts extra credit. I had a B in the class but it gave me an A. Get the old tests if possible because they are identical to his. However, without the old tests it would be a harder class. Dont memorize because exam questions are about application
Great professor. The class was relevant and interesting. Franklund is a very good lecturer and an extremely helpful professor.
One of my favorite professors! He is truly committed to helping his students. Tests can be challenging. But if you study the notes and practice tests you should do well. With all of the extra credit and homework assignments he gives you would have to be extremely lazy not to pass this class. I would take him again
Rarely used the textbook. Print out his power point notes before lecture and make sure you get a hold of his old tests and lab quizzes! He knows his stuff and is willing to help
Very challenging class. Study hard and use your resources. He is very helpful whenever you ask anything. A very interesting fun loving man. Tests are a real challenge. Take advantage of all the point opportunities he gives you!
Dr. Franklund is an awesome professor, for the most part. His lectures are entertaining even though the material is very boring at times. Lots of free points, so that is a nice cushion for your grade. I wish I hadn't bought the book as I only used it here and there to fill in blanks in the lectures. Exams are very similar to those from past years.
Franklund's dry humor is entertaining. His exams are very difficult but he offers 10 points of extra credit after each one and also offers a LOT of cushion points in the class through homework and other things. Tough class but not hard to pull off a good grade.
Professor Franklund is an awfully boring instructor. His lectures are boring and the material is confusing. Tests are very difficult, but he does offer extra credit points and homework that allow for some cushion points.
Test are hard but he gives you plenty of extra credit to make up for any bad grades you get. Homework and quizzes weekly. Barely used the book, take advantage of extra credit, take notes, and study you will be fine.
The flipped classroom was one of the best ideas this man could have. Not only did he emphasize on the material in class, but his notes and tegritys were super helpful. The class requires a lot of work but I honestly learned more in microbiology than i did in any other undergraduate class. You will be glad you took this instructor!!
Makes lab interesting. Lots to do and visually see week to week, but generally an easy lab. For a 3 credit class this was the most work I've done in quite a while. He does offer a generous amount of extra credit to guard against some poor exam results. Exams were very difficult and comprehensive. However, study hard and you'll do well.
Very nice and wants everyone to do well but teaches like its a graduate level class. Alot of small details. write down everything he says. Go over notes everyday. Labs are lots of fun. Dont expect an A though. Gives some extra credit but its harder.
Hard class, he teaches it like everyone knows what is going on. Uses nicknames for stuff all semester, which only adds to confusion. I never knew what he was talking about, ever. Review using textbook resources and THEN use recorded lectures. You will understand his jargon so much more. Review, every night. Good luck balancing with other classes.
Great professor overall. His tests are tough, but he provides lots of " grade padding" assignments through homework assignments and extra credit. If you study for tests and lab quizzes you can get the grade you want. The labs are the best I have had yet. Also, he is very organized, and all his lectures are recorded so you can miss class if needed.
Dr. Franklund takes a tough subject and makes it totally manageable. He provides ample feedback after every exam, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. He is super helpful and always available outside of class. He gives about 10 pts extra credit after each exam and a few practice quizzes for extra credit as well. Lectures are long and he moves fast!
Took the class last year, of all my undergrad this class was most enjoyable. He is a very knowledgeable prof, & maintains a smooth lecture style. You can tell he is a practiced professor. Always available for help & gives great feedback. Material is hard but he loves what he teaches and shows it. Do what's expected as a student and you will do well
The online homework is torture, but you have unlimited attempts and it provides a lot of extra points to comfort your grade. He gives extra credit quizzes after every test as well. I really liked him and this class.
He is one of the smartest professors I have seen on campus. His lectures cover a lot of material, but it is important to go to them, take notes, and then listen to the lecture again online (helped me anyways). He will answer any question you have so attend his office hours. Very organized and funny.
Dr. Franklund is an amazing teacher and I really enjoy his class. He also offers so much extra credit. I got a D- on all his tests because I didn't study as much as I should've but I ended up with an A in the class! Great teacher. He really knows a lot about microbiology and is really passionate about it.
AMAZING professor, he really knows what he is talking about and is always available to offer help where needed. Also he offers so much extra credit that there is no way you can fail. I got low C's and High D's on my exams and got a B+ in the class!
Do the homework and bonus assignments.
Franklund treats his class like it is the only class you have. There are so many trivial quizzes and papers due all the time, it can be difficult to keep a balance with your other classes. TEST QUESTIONS ARE VERY SPECIFIC. Some questions will ask you for the 5th word on the 15th slide in lecture 2. Read old tests, he pulls questions from them.
He treats this class like we took an intro to microbiology. He rarely gets grades in when he says he will. He will draw poorly drawn pictures on the board and then explain them with words nobody understands. He cant dumb it down for his students. I think hes so smart that its hard for him to get his students to understand.
Goes through material fairly quick but overall is a good teacher. Glad to explain things differently if something doesn't make sense to you.
Dr. Franklund is a great professor who is super passionate about microbiology. That being said it is not an easy course! He often gets so into his lectures he tends to go fast so it is important to stop him and ask questions! Offers tons of extra credit though, and really wants you to learn the material
He talks super fast and his powerpoints aren't always clear. His questions are worded weird and he goes over way more than what's actually needed. He gives out a lot of extra credit. He doesn't use the textbook but, but it'd be helpful if he did.
While a lot of people didn't like Franklund last semester I considered him to be one of the best because he TRULY wants you to do well. After the first exam, he offered LOTS of extra credit (an entire letter grade worth throughout the semester) to try and get us the grades we needed. Do not miss lectures and make sure to review your notes a TON!
Tough class but you have to work for it to get a good grade. He offers soooo many extra credit points. You only have to get a 60% or higher on exams and do decent with everything else in order to pass. Final exam you get a cheat sheet front and back which helps a lot. He tries to explain things as best as he can but theres just a lot to learn.
Lots of extra credit opportunities. Not an easy class, but he makes every effort to show students where and how to get every point in the class. Tells you the breakdown of tests before taking them, and has BlackBoard super organized with lots of practice problems. Pop quizzes in class, closed notes but you can work with others.
Pretty routine stuff in this class. He breaks things up into modules, and for each module there is an exam. There is also online homework for every lecture that are due at the time of each exam. The labs for this class are super interesting and short (which is nice)! His exams are fair and basically right off of his slides.
Hardest class I've taken thus far. This professor literally reads his slide word for word. I basically had to teach myself. Don't get me wrong the guy is very intelligent but maybe he should work in a lab rather than teach ?? The tests were very difficult, the study guides do not help at all! Find a study method that will pass you! Lab quizzes suck
It is so hard to follow along in his lecture. I get so bored that he puts me to sleep, and I never sleep in class. He talks about biology, just not the biology he puts on his exams. I have never been so scared to get my grade back in my life. I do not have a normal sleep schedule, I have to put on his recorded lectures to fall asleep at night.
This class is impossible. He SAYS he will give test results/feedback to you, but doesnt. The homework can be 4+ hours EACH. He literally just reads off his slides and calls that teaching. He also says that everything on the slides will be on the test, but its not. He doesnt even teach the content thats on the test. Terrible professor.
Lectures are important. However, he tries to explain many topics in a very complex way. He is way too smart to be teaching this class, and it shows. Also, he is very slow with grading. He did not give back out 2nd/3rd exam back for weeks after we did them. Very slow to post the lectures online as well.
First test was hard, then you realize his style and all tests are basically the same. Study for weekly lab quizzes. Otherwise youre good, he wants to get everyone to pass and gave bonus points a few times
By far the best professor in the biology department. Hes really understanding and will help you with anything. Just memorize homework and bold words in slides and you will pass the exams. STUDY HARD FOR LAB QUIZZES.
Dr. Franklund is a very intelligent teacher but I think he tries to cram to much info into each class period. The bold words on the slides are very useful to help study for exams. He will work with you to help make sure you understand make sure you go to his office hours or else ask question after class. He does talk a little fast though.
Worst lectures ever! So boring, I went through and reread and rewatch his lectures before exams and nothing was familiar, it was like a whole different class on the exams. He took forever to grade everything and majority of the class failed the exams every single time. The only reason I passed was, becasuse of the extra credit.
Dr. Franklund is a very intelligent teacher but is a fast lecturer. The bold words on the slides are very useful to help study for exams.
HORRIBLE Worst professor I have experienced, and I have been in college for 6 years.I took BIOL389 immunology class. His lectures are supposed to be mandatory, however,my exam grades improved after I stopped attending. He talks WAY too fast, doesn't answer questions, and is NOT available outside of class nor will he send/answer emails/phone
I heard good stuff about him and wasexcited to take a class with him.I realized he is not teaching at all he just readis off his powerpoint slides without any explanation. If you want to learn by understanding , I dont think he is right professor. Yes you will get good grades due the structure of his class but you are not understanding much.
Dr. Franklund teaches a challenging class, but if you stay on top of the material and use resources like the textbook and unstuck AI, you'll do well. The tests are specific, so make sure to review old exams.
Not a bad class, quizlet will help you through tests and quizzes, he goes pretty fast in lecture so don't try to write everything down that's on the slides. Labs were short and fun.
Dr. Franklund is a pretty chill dude. When you read his syllabus, you'll think the class is harder than it is, but if you have a test bank, you'll do just fine. Extra credit is given after every exam.
