He is amazing!!!! Makes the subject very easy to comprehend. He does however, do only a couple homework assignments and doesn't take role so basically your grade is based off of tests, but if you go to class and do what he asks, you will know all of the test material by heart, some studying necessary.

He is one of the most entertaining professors I have ever had. I surely looked forward to going to his courses each week, and learned a ton in them. He loves what he teaches, and that is very obvious. He was at class every single time, and was always very very well prepared. Be prepared for difficult test, however he is a very fair grader.

Clint is great. His class is easier than other biology classes that simply make you regurgitate information, but it's still not easy. Attend every class or else you will miss vital information. He tells you if you want to pass, get in a study group. He wants you to be able to teach the material to others. Test phrasing is the most challenging part.

Clint is hilarious. I loved his lectures and they were engaging. It can be moderately frustrating to be able to tell what is a joke and what is important, but if you pay attention he gives you all the information you need. No book, very little homework and the tests are straight from the lectures. He really makes you think critically.

Great Teacher! His lectures are very entertaining and funny. He does impersonations of animals and brings actual animals during lectures. His class is hard! To pass the class you need to: Show up to class TAKE NOTES! (Especially if he emphasizes the subject) DO the homework! STUDY for the tests! ASK questions! Basically everything you already know.

Clint obviously has a passion for what he teaches. He gives hilarious lectures and sometimes brings in live animals. I feel like I learned a lot in the course, but his tests were difficult! The class is a little difficult but is really fun and makes you learn. I enjoyed the class and was able to do well when I took notes. I didn't need to purchase the book because I attended class and got a study group together

He teaches by using examples, as long as you pay attention in the class you'll be fine. He is really funny and uses object examples, videos and group projects to make the class interesting.

He has a unique style of teaching so if you learn by examples and try to participate in class, you'll do fine. His study guides are made of definitions that you can then just ask "what could he ask me about this concept?" His goal isn't to memorize terms but to understand the material.

The class is basically based off of 4 major tests. When in class he teaches by asking questions to make the class participate and learn. If you study and learn the material and how to apply the material, you'll pass the class.

I was distraught when seeing some of these comments. Professor Laidlaw is one of the best professors I have ever had. I would recommend this course to anyone. Clinton is hilarious and passionate about what he does. I promise that if you go to class, he will provide with an incredible education. I learned more than I could have imagined.

Awesome professor! He makes class fun and it is SUPER key to try and get the extra credit in the beginning of the semester. Also, go to class, he says a lot of important things and will help to pass the class.

This was my favorite class! He is so funny, you just got to embrace this quirkiness and you can't help but love his class. I loved his class! Clint is a great guy, but its a lot of self teaching. If you don't do your part, then don't expect to pass. Clint is an improv comedian so class is always funny, without fail. I feel like I actually learned and my mindset changed from taking this class. I guess I didn't realize that I had so many misconceptions and prejudices.

Clint is an excellent professor. He cares deeply about the subject matter, but makes you work for your grade. There's no textbook, so get used to Wikipedia. Also, your grade is just the average of your test scores as long as you do the homework. Don't skip class because most of the test info comes from lectures.

Professor Laidlaw is an amazing teacher. I do not like biology and he made biology fun. I really enjoyed his class. He teaches the concepts of biology that make you think "why" is this happening and not just telling you that something happens and you should remember it. Show up to class, take notes, pay attention, study, and most important, enjoy.

He is a really great professor. Willing to work with you if you have questions and concerns about the material, especially if you are there in class often and participate. The way he tests is unique, its a good way of testing your knowledge on the material. He gave 3 tests and 1 final. Unit 1, Unit1&2, Quarter 2&3, and the final was unit 3&4.

Prof. Laidlaw was a great teacher; hardly any homework, he made the lectures a lot of fun by bringing in visuals, and he is super funny! One heads up though is that his tests are pretty hard. They are true/false and kind of wordy so pay attention to that. But he does help you make them up a little bit by rewrites, which is super helpful.

He is very enthusiastic in what he teaches, he makes others excited about it too. At the beginning of the semester he taught in group projects using paperclips and things to teach meiosis, and if one group was ahead of another, he seemed to assume the whole class understood as that group. The rest of the semester was better, good lectures.

He is very energetic and loves what he teaches. He uses lots of interesting questions to help you learn. Once you get used to how he teaches it makes sense.

Professor Laidlaw is so funny and makes lectures interesting because of it. He is willing to help you outside of class with any questions you have. His class is test-heavy and there isn't a lot of homework but you should spend extra time studying for his tests.

Professor Laidlaw was definitely born to teach evolutionary biology. He's excited about the subject, which helps you be excited as well. Definitely not a class you can skip and still pass- I only missed 2 class periods through the term and on both of those days assignments were assigned and I wasn't aware of them until they were due next period.

Never enjoyed biology more. The class is interactive and Clinton is an entertaining teacher. I looked forward to each lecture. The course covers less material in more depth. The exams are true or false and short answer. I didn't need to use a book, just the internet, e.g. wiki. I will miss going to this class.

By far the best teacher I have had in college. I am not a science major, and have never had an interest in science. However, I learned more in this class than I have in any class, ever. Very funny, great attitude, and really helpful. Would recommend to anybody.

Clint is a great Biology teacher! He gives lectures by being super entertaining and bringing in live animals. Though I did find it hard to know what was important in his lectures and what was just fun facts, so it was kind of hard to take good notes, but even then he makes it easy to remember what he says by relating topics to stories and jokes!

Amazing lectures! Regularly brings animals(usually of the reptile variety) to class to help with application of different ideas of classification, etc. Doesn't require a book which is great, just do your very best not to miss class. He tells you the first day that study groups are pretty much mandatory, and he is right. Very enthusiastic!

Great teacher. Your whole grade is based off of four tests. Doesn't make you memorize any crazy information. The class is actually geared towards real life situations even though it was a general course. Get ready to see more animals in this class than you do at the zoo. This class intimidated me at the beginning. Especially when we went over the grading. But he really does explain things very well and always makes time to explain it to outside of class and help you that way if you need it. He responses quick to messages on canvas (huge plus), and is so enthusiastic. By far my favorite teacher I have taken.

There was less than 10 homework assignments, but his teaching style is probably one of the best i've seen. He puts good humor into his lectures so that they are not boring. To be honest, attending the lectures was actually relaxing. The only downfall that I could really see was the tests where stressful, but the way they are set up is also genius.

Funny professor, Take good notes and pay attention in class or you will not pass.

Professor Laidlaw was my favorite professor out of all my classes (I've been in three degrees). He is knowledgeable, relatable, and very positive. You have to take notes on most of what he says, but if you do you'll know exactly what is on the test. The things you learn gives you an amazing overview of ecology/evolution. No + or - grades.

Professor Laidlaw is awesome! His lectures are very interesting and he loves to crack jokes. I had this class at 8 am, and still enjoyed going. His tests are challenging though. You need to go to class to understand the material. But I would definitely take a class with him again!

Clint Laidlaw was a super enthusiastic professor who really cares about biology. He teaches in a way that can be really good or really bad. He's very personal, but be aware of his tests. They aren't easy, but if you study, you'll pass.

He's funny. There were a lot of lol moments. You need to attend every day and take note to do well on the tests, since there were no textbooks or slideshows.

He is a pretty nice guy. He uses lots of jokes and analogies to teach the content. The tests get progressively harder as the semester goes by but if you study its not hard to pass. He brings animals to class which is pretty fun. He's not always clear on the content thats going to be on the test so listen to everything he says, joke or not.

Good and fun teacher. less that 5 hw days and the hw is sooooo easy. Test are everything and he lets you do test corrections. Most of the semester he teaches about animals and insects. Little about cells and that aspect of biology. He brings in all his cool animals. He is really into evolution. I would recommend him.

I really loved this class. It was easily the most fun Iv'e had in any college class so far. I enjoyed all of the material and the awesome examples and real world relations he gave. I will say that it was pretty difficult to understand his test questions and they can be misleading sometimes so make sure you really understand concepts and examples.

This guy is hilarious, loves his subject a lot and brings cool animals to class. You do need to go to class though and take good notes if you want to do good on the tests. Clint is HILARIOUS! I've never been so excited about Biology before. His lectures are awesome. He must own every reptile on earth because he'll bring them in to class to show you what he's talking about. We see his ball pythons a lot but it really helps you understand what he's teaching too.

The lectures are great, but it is always unclear what is the most important and what needs to be learned, and in what depth, the tests, go over more than the basic learned knowledge of the class, they really push understanding and critical thinking, although i would say they are poorly written!!

He is very enthusiastic with this subject, so be careful he likes to go on tangents that you don't always need to know or study. It's mostly exams that are graded and they are pretty difficult. He teaches simply but when it comes to the exams they are more indepth and make you use your critical thinking skills. His lectures are good & entertaining.

It's difficult, like any biology class that you take, but my highest recommendation would be to tape record his classes because most of the things that are on the test come from what he explains, not what's on the slides. I have never liked Biology, since my high school teacher who was extremely boring. This teacher helped me learn to like Biology. His thought process was, why would he have us memorize a bunch of useless material when memorization doesn't mean understanding. He taught us only things that were important and there was very little memorization.

He's a good teacher he makes the class interesting. Beware the tests though, just because everything makes sense doesnt mean you know the test answers, and just because theres no homework doesnt mean you wont be tested on it.

He is a crazy professor, but his classes are fun and entertaining. Doesn't really give out many assignments so you grade is based of the 3 test and the final.

I really enjoyed this class. Laidlaw has a lot of personality so the lectures stay interesting. It was fun to see the snakes and lizards he brought to class. He doesn't put homework in until the very end of the semester so its unclear how it will affect your grade until the end. Overall, it's a fun and not to difficult class.

VERY funny, and super nice. Knows a TON about the subject and is very passionate. He can be very vague and oversimplifies things to the point where it confuses students. Ask him to clarify things often and it shouldn't be too much of a problem. DO THE HOMEWORK HE ASSIGNS YOU. There's very few things on your grade and it can only help.

Clint has been a fantastic teacher. He is a Zoologist, so he emphasizes a lot on different animals and often brings some to class. He is passionate about biology and is by far the most entertaining teacher I have had. He is very approachable. His test questions can be vague, but the overall grade is balanced between homework and tests.

He's passionate about Biology and helpful if you ask. Gives good analogies to help you understand the concepts. Be there every time and pay attention the whole time. If you WRITE literally EVERYTHING you can do fine. It helps to take pictures of his slides and what he draws on the board so you can access it again the way it's up when he lectured.

I went to class everyday, I hope that I pass the class. He doesn't put all of the grades on canvas till the very end of the semester. Professor Laidlaw keeps class entertaining and simple. For Biology 1010 he really just wants you to understand basic concepts instead of meticulous details which is really nice. Being in class is key to succeeding. The tests are challenging but he puts study guides on canvas.

Clinton is very unique in his teaching style. Be prepared for odd analogies and for him to bring a lot of snakes and other reptiles into the classroom. He is very passionate about what he does but is not very in some of his lessons. You are often left to try to figure out a concept on your own or with a partner. This can be a challenge at times.

He's a great teacher. If you are a businessnon science major and taking this class because it is a required course ( it shouldn't be but it is) then you may find it difficult. All the grade is from tests with the hw, surveys, and journals as free points essentially. His tests are very difficult after the first test. Studying is 100% needed.

I'm not sure if he or someone else made the tests for the class, but they are bad. The questions are often contradictory, and some of the answers could be argued either way. I think nearing the end of the semester he began to realize this and gave us opportunities to make up for it. Hilarious guy, but the majority your grade is from these tests.

I absolutely LOVED this class! If you don't like seeing reptiles and other animals IN CLASS this class is not for you, if it doesn't bug you, this is the best class EVER! Your grade is almost entirely dependent on 4 tests, consisting of T/F and short answer. Each test after the first covers 2 units of material. He gives you brief study guides with terms to review and opportunities for test corrections. Entirely lecture-based, doesn't use a textbook. Pretty easy class.

Laidlaw is an awesome professor!! Would totally recommend. I do not like biology, but i absolutely loved this class! The tests were hard, but it was worth it because I actually enjoyed coming to the class everyday. If you do not go to class you will get a bad grade.

Clint is excellent at conveying the information in a way that makes the topics seem simple and natural. All the homework is for your benefit; if you don't do it, it doesn't bring down your grade. Homework is just free points. Allows test corrections up to twenty points! You have to go to class. All the information is given through lecture.

In this class the grade depends mostly on tests, which isn't that great, but he is absolutely hilarious. When he starts talking about animals, he just gets very enthusiastic and it really helps you pay attention and learn what he's saying because he's just so memorable.

His tests are the hardest part. He doesnt give you too much to study from so paying attention in class and taking good notes goes a long way. He uses slideshows but they dont contain a lot of information so make sure you ask him lots of questions if you need clarification.

Professor Clinton Laidlaw is a good person who knows his "schtuff" and his studies are in Zoology and Lectures in Biology classes at UVU. His methods aren't exactly workable for those looking for a structured professor. His lectures are hilarious! But only take this class if you are "loose" or are great at studying by yourself outside of class.

Professor Laidlaw was amazing! I had him for BIO 1620 and he was the best.. The tests are multiple choice true false... which can be difficult but as long as you are going to class everyday and pay attention you should get an A! I didn't even open my book once. Homework is really there just to buffer your grade, and doesn't add to the class.

He is very patient and won't get mad if students are slow to understand a concept. I took a livestream class and he did a great job of facilitating classroom discussion even over Teams.

Pro. Laidlaw is a character. He is definitely an entertaining teacher. However, his testing and grading methods are just as unconventional as his teaching. He doesn't give out HW so the handful of quizzes and exams you take REALLY matter. I did poorly on my first exam and quiz but did well the rest of the semester and still only came out with a B.

Being both a man of science and God, Prof. Laidlaw is the embodiment of the missing link between religion and evolution. Most Professors though informative are unrelieved. However, Prof. Laidlaw is anything but. His energetic, positive and informative way of teaching should be the gold standard. Thank you Prof. Laidlaw.
