I've taken Pope's class twice now and I think I've figured him out: he uses his class to show off his research and teaches only about 40% of what you need to know. About 30% of the questions on his tests he doesn't even cover so you better go to a TA review before the tests. The homework isn't asked on tests AT ALL! He admits that in class.

I like him and he's entertaining, but lectures aren't very important. Everything important comes from the book, homework, and TA reviews. Tests are honestly easier than I thought they would be if you prepare by redoing the homework. Certainly not an easy class, but from what I have heard from others, he seems to be a really good choice.

This class was awful. The TAs were inconsistent with the professor, and the homework was inconsistent with the lectures. I was confused 99% of the time, and I know I was not the only one. The TA labs were not helpful at all. I spent 8+ hours on the homework every week, but I retained little to no information. It was useless.

Dr. Pope is great for Econ 110! His lectures are interesting, but know you'll need to study outside of class. He mostly teaches the basic ideas and expects you to learn how to apply them. Exams are 75% of your grade. Expect daily quizzes.

Dr. Pope is a great professor who knows what he's doing but this class is definitely difficult so take it at your own risk and be ready to work. Tests take concepts from lectures and from the textbook and expect you to understand them combined together conceptually most of the time. The TA lab and recitations were the only thing that saved me.

He is a great guy but I did not enjoy the class. This class requires a lot of work on your part to understand all of the theory and its applications. Be prepared to study lots cause it's test heavy and the midterms are challenging if you haven't prepared adequately. Class requires a 95%+ to get an A so beware. 75% of grade is 2 midterms and final.

If you are willing to invest into understanding the homework and going into the TA lab (do it!!!) you will succeed. That is his goal and he does a great job.

Took econ 110 to fulfill my American Heritage requirement. (That was a huge mistake) Pope is a great teacher. He loves what he does and wants you to learn. His lectures are very difficult to take notes on, and you should consider it like a 4 credit hour class because if you want a better grade you have to attend the recitations with TAs. Great TAs.

Prof. Pope is different from other econ 110 professors in that he "creates econ" rather than just spouts of the material (in the words of the TAs). Highly recommend him - lectures are very interesting and engaging and I didn't feel that the workload was too intense. Exams are very difficult though, and your grade rides on how you do on the 3 exams.
