Great teacher, but exams are hard and he grades hard.
MANY opportunities to meet in study groups or with Haulman. Dry material, though
great professor, makes everything very clear
I had him for econ 10201 too, he's really not bad. He's also a very nice guy.
He's boring. 1st test was just like the prob sets. The other ones threw me for a loop.
didn't like him at all, was boring and actually not a very nice person as a whole

lectures can be a bit boring at times but he's an excellent professor, study problem sets and old exams and you'll do fine on tests, the textbook is really unnecessary
not really a good professor or even nice old man....should retire
uses 25 year old slides, doesn't even try to make things interesting, i wouldn't recommend him
makes clear exactly what he wants in terms of exam preparation
Tests can be sketchy sometimes if you only study the problem sets and old tests. Class is pretty boring, except he brings his ADORABLE dog to class... don't even bother buying the textbook
don't take the old guy
The real-world examples he gives are very helpful. he is also very accessable during office hours and gives multiple review sessions before his tests.
Doesn't try to make the class interesting. Tests do not measure understanding of concepts, only the ability to solve certain kinds of word problem. Not a bad professor, but not a good one either.
can be tough. go to class, do problem sets and you'll be all set.
not the most thrilling class i have had. still, not a bad prof, tests and examples highly applicable to real world problems. study problem sets and go to the review sessions and you'll be fine. forget the book.
Don't buy the book, just do problem sets, go to class. The tests are problem sets, so if you memorize the ones you've done, you'll at least get a 50. Doesn't teach econ theory, just how to solve a few select problems
he yelled at me in class for reading a book and then proceeded to question me on the boring, lifeless lecture he had just given. I gave an immaculate answer and he looked rather dumb in front of the entire class. Yep, he sucks.
one of my favorite teachers. not the most exciting but teaches you well and if you show progress on tests he will curve your grade. very nice and helpful too
Class was pretty boring. Just go to the classes to get the answers to the problem sets and study them and then the exams aren't so bad. Love his dogs.
I'm not doing well, but that's not his fault at all. (+)Extremely clear, extremely organized, knows the material like the back of his hand. Provides every opportunity for review. (-)Complete lack of humor/excitement. A small price to pay. Overall: A-
He is a very nice, old man, the class is boring, but that's not his fault, its econ. You don't need the book, the class just focuses on his problem sets. He gives helpful review sessions before every test. Not completely easy, but not too hard either
adorable man, adorable dog...teaches you what you need to know, prepares you well for tests...not exciting material but he gets you through it...2 words: problem sets
Reading the book is useless, just pay attention in class and study the problem sets. He is helpful if you go to see him and exams are very much like problem sets.
You really don't need the book. Econ is a boring subject IMO but Haulman explains it well. Review sessions are offered for those who don't understand - a definite plus.

He gets impatient at times if he feels that the class is not understanding an important concept. Is very knowledgeable about things and does a lot for students and those in the community. Had him for the Sharpe program as well where he is a great source.
The best professor in the economics department. I have yet to meet one prof that will go so far to ensure students can understand the concepts. From weekly problem sets (ACTUALLY REVIEWED IN CLASS) to evening discussion sessions, no other Prof does this!!
I dont really like Econ- but this isnt too bad. Study problem sets. Nice guy.
Definitely study the problem sets. Feel free to ignore the book, unless you want to use it for examples on material that's unclear from class. The tests are straight from problem sets, although difficult to finish in the given time.
study the problem sets for tests. he's not very clear sometimes, but helps if you go to problem reviews or see him after class. boring. pretty easy class.
Great professor and person. Professor Haulman goes above and beyond to make sure students understand the material and he'll make you enjoy Econ despite whatever preconceived notions you have. Take his class, he rocks.
extremely brilliant and kind. he'll help you until you understand everything. just go to him during his office hours and he'll stop whatever he's doing to help. he's cool
know the problem sets and variations of the problems from notes and you'll ace the class. i hardly used the book. he's a nice guy.
He is a decent teacher who effectively conveys the course material. However, he does little else. I hate economics, however, so my opinion may be tainted.
I've had several teachers in the econ department and have completed my major req; yet in still, Haulman is the best teacher in the department. Provides great notes, weeks problem sets with reviews, and additional after class review sessions. Best of Best!
Mediocre at best. He's been awarded for what he's done for the school, but I was disappointed by his class.
Everything you need is given in class and on the problem sets. Don't buy the book, you'll never read it. Maybe buy one book between you and 5 friends for those rare times when you actually need to look something up.

not too bad. Don't bother buying the book, tests are on class work and practice problems.
very nice guy and cute dogs he brings to class sometimes. always willing to give extra help. he holds review sessions before every exam. you never need the book, just follow his problem sets
He's an incredibly nice guy who always tries to provide a lot of outside meeting times for his students. His tests come straight off the Problem Sets, so know those back and forth and you'll be fine. Also, he will usually have a generous curve.
fair tests and simple lectures
Excellent professor
Tests are pretty predictable once you get used to them, are pretty similar to the problem sets. When he dicides to throw a curveball in there that's when it gets tough. Grades optional papers pretty arbitrarily, lectures are incredibly boring and useles
Kinda boring lectures, but a GREAT guy and very willing to help outside of class. Don't pay attention to the book and study the problem sets.
He is an awesome teacher, very helpful outside of class. His dogs are great as is he. Although I don't like econ, he has made it bearable. Follow the problem sets and practice exams, and definitely go to the extra help sessions. Thumbs up for Haulman!
Vice Mayor of Williamsburg. Awesome prof. He gets very excited about econ and makes it more interesting with real life examples. No required papers, but optional papers can bring up a bad test grade.
economics is really confusing, but he gives you plenty of help opportunities if you're stuck. If you have to take econ i recommend him, even though his lectures can get a little dull.
I DEFINITELY recommend taking a class with him! He is so incredibly cute, and he's the nicest man ever! He is definitely more than willing to help if you ever have a problem and he loves meeting and talking to students! He is very approachable and you can tell he cares.
Very willing to help you if you ever have a question. Offers review sessions all semester and extra ones before the exams. Lectures can be a little dry, but they are good overall. Tests are exactly like the problem sets, so don't bother with the book. Take his class if you have the chance.
Really nice guy, if you take microeconomics, try to take it from him.
Very good teacher and is willing to help out a lot. Tests are all Essay based and you do have to go the extra mile to learn material for that A. Otherwise awesome take this class. (Macro with him is extremely easy if you do)
Haulman is a great Professor. His lectures are interesting, and easy to follow. Problem Sets are a good tool to help prepare for examinations. Whether you are taking this for a GER, or as part of a Major Requirement, Economics 101 with Haulman is a good choice for a fair teacher and a good class
EXTREMELY unclear. Tests are killers. Take anyone else but Haulman if you can. Says things a million times & still no one understands. However, his 2 dogs are a plus.
he's a great professor. he tries hard to help everyone understand and he is very fair.
This class was not difficult. No need to read book ever. all that is on tests is straight from problem sets. no work besides problem sets which he goes over in class before you are required to turn them in. nothing on tests will ever try to trick you. explains things well
really easy if you actually put a little bit of time into it. Just go to class, its not that hard people. don't buy the book if you go to class, and go over the problem sets and the practice exam to study, because exams are right from that. He makes it interesting, too if you go to class and listen
Classes are boring and he rambles endlessly in lecture. You can go to class every day and still have no idea what is going on. The tests aren't too bad but he grades very inconsistently. My micro-econ prof made me love economics but Haulman made me hate it.
easiest class in the school. the questions he asks on the exams are so unbelievably predictable its funny. You only need to go to class on fridays to listen to the problem set explanations and you will get an A. Also extremely democratic class, so be ready for some Haulman economics
Haulman's econ class is harder than the others' from what i can tell, but i wouldn't opt for ease because our tests in Haulman's class are more application of concepts than memorization of formulas. He's a really nice guy, and he does a great job keeping the intro classes interesting.
Easy class. Do the problem sets and listen to the answers. Don't buy the book; Econ 101 exams are a joke, 102 exams are easy until the final, have fun and good luck on that one.
Prof. Haulman is the hottest old man i've ever seen. He is very interesting and very helpful. You need to study b/c his tests are a little challenging but if you go for help he boosts ur grade when your boarder line. So take advantage of his niceness

Haulman is both a wonderful teacher and a fabulous person. His lectures are well structured. He is VERY OBVIOUSLY concerned with the welfare of each and every person in his class. He is dedicated to his work, and not at all impatient. His tests are very very fair. You can't do better!
i took econ because i had never taken a course before of it and it would be cool to take something different. don't take it if you don't plan in being in the business field or majoring in it. it is extremely boring and haulman has a huge southern drawl that will put you to sleep.
cool guy who knows what he's talking about. however, the class is boring and the tests are hard. he's willing to help...which is good since you basically sleep through class.
answers every1's questions and lets us out of class 5 mins early almost everytime
Haulman is a great professor, and this class isn't that hard. Know the homework and get A's, its pretty simple. Also Haulam rules at life and so does his dog. You could say he's my homeboy
Um, this class sucked. The problem sets were easy b/c he went over them every Friday but when it came time for tests, that's when alot of ppl were screwed. Tests are not mult. choice but problems rather. Boring professor and I dont understand why so many people are in love with him.
he's pretty nice, and he has helpful reveiw sessions, if you can make it. if you can make it to the sessions, you don't have to buy the book, he gives you all the info.
I had heard that this class was easy, so I was quite surprised when I had more trouble with the first test than anything I've ever taken in college so far. I feel that some of his questions on exams are kind of random, but once I took the class more seriously, it wasn't much of a problem. He's very helpful, but I found the material very dull.
Very cool man. Drives a porshe. He's good about giving partial credit on mostly-wrong answers. Watch out though--if he answers a question for someone, and you ask him the same one after that, he WILL embarass you for being a jerk and not listening.
Decent professor, not too hard, tricky questions sometimes. Pretends to like students, but deep down inside he doesn't really like you.
Haulman is a nice guy who seems to enjoy students and teaching. Econ 102 isn't too hard - 2 exams and a final. Study the weekly problem sets (after he goes over them in class), because his exams mirror them. He explains stuff pretty well, but I don't think I actually learned much of anything. Oh well - good class for a GER, fairly easy grade.
Generally good course, interesting material. Good teacher, 2 exams and a final which are similar to his problem sets but will frequently feature something *not* gone over in depth so know everything. Better than my econ 101 experience with another prof.
The class is an interesting class and I didn't mind it, but I found Haulman to be a very boring teacher. He explains EVERY concept at least 3 times in class, which just makes it hard to pay attention. That alone wouldn't be terrible, but he only ever explains anything ONE WAY, so if you don't get it the first time, you're screwed...
The class will be boring. The informations not that hard, just review the problem sets.
He is an amazing professor. Very helpful. He knows what he is talking about and is always there for questions. If you see him teaching a class, take it; he will take textbook outside of the box and apply it to daily life. Go to study sessions before the exam. It WILL help.
Haulman is a great professor – what else would you expect from the Chairman of the Econ dept. and the Vice Mayor of Williamsburg? But he is also very good at conveying economic ideas to students. He holds thorough review sessions before each test and applies economic concepts to the real world.
if you dont think you'll be very good at econ, don't take this class to find out. haulman is nice and all, but his lectures assume knowledge that anyone who is vaguely not econish will have a hard time understanding. Exams have way too much on them so its impossible to finish on time.
Boring socialist who imposes restrictions on students as Mayor of Williamsburg.
He will seriously beat a dead horse until you understand every part of the problem. He really helps.
Haulman is great! Tests are similar to prob sets and the practice questions are useful to do. the review sessions will help tremendously if you have trouble understanding a concept! Gives partial credit for problems so write something on tests even if you know nothing!
It's the easiest most laid back class ever. I took it freshman fall, and so I was still afraid of skipping classes. If I took it now, I can guarantee I would only go on exam days. Just look at the homework assignments and he grabs right from those on the tests. Cram before the exams and an A is totally attainable. Easiest GER3 possible, no question
Haulman is a nice guy, and the book that he used was quite humourous, but not a people-person; he's approachable outside of class for questions but vague in answering sometimes. Efficient for the GER, but dont take if you can't think like a typical economist.
The lecture has to be the most boring thing in existence but that's because Haulman continually emphasizes the concepts over and over again. The weekly problem sets are worth doing and the Q&A session he has about his personal life as a get to know your prof shows how easily accessible he is. Take the class, you know you wanna.
This class is all about knowing the right way to study. Going to the review sessions is ESSENTIAL to doing well on the tests, grades quite easily but this is good because tests are pretty hard. Also grade based on improvement, which helped me a lot. overall, a good guy and a decent class - B+.... and do the optional papers, easy A
Yay! Clyde!
Genuinely nice guy, but needs to retire. Classes are completely unpredictable... he can ramble for hours on irrelevant topics. Don't bother going. Problem sets weekly, but he goes over them in class the day they are due. Exams are confusing but are based entirely off the problem sets, so study them over and over and you'll pull off a good grade.
Hes an AMAZING professor, and an even amazing person. he is always willing to help you whenever you need it, and his dogs are adorabale. he genuinely cares, which no one can deny bec despite the fact that he has tenure, he still grades every one of his exams by hand...and there about more than 300 students in h=the class. Take Him!!
Really nice man, really helpful, but pretty unclear about the material. Gives you lots of practice problems to study for the exams. picky grader though.
What a nice prof! Funny, very likeable. Class is far from easy, but not intentionally so; its just the nature of the material. Def go to the review sessions--they help a lot. The final was tricky and mostly on the latter part of the class. In studying for the tests, need to rev more than just the problem sets. Must know how/why everything happens.
I had him for both micro and macro, with no prior interest in either. Haulman totally changed that. He's not only the nicest professor I've had so far, he's also the most helpful both during class and office hours. Tests are fairly predictable for macro (like problem sets), no textbook use, and offers op. papers as extra credit. Overall awesome!
I'd go to class everyday, because he goes over the problem sets. Make sure you have them to study for the tests. Sometimes he makes you think outside the box with econ, but it helps if you go to the TA reviews.
Very odd accent, but really tries to keep it interesting. I'm a bit of an econ-hater, but I worked really hard and got an A-, so it can be done. Not terrible :)
I don't know why everybody gave haulman great ratings b/c he really isn't that great. When you ask a question, he'll ask you to answer it. You need to read the textbook. It's a huge class, sit in the front. read your notes, make sure you understand the concept so you can do the problems. pray.
hard class must know how/why everything happens. must know more than what is covered on the problem sets. just b/c you get a good grade on the first test don't get cocky, he grades the second midterm really hard, class average went from like an A- on 1st to C+ on 2nd. he's really boring but seems pretty nice. meyer is the easier professor for 102.
He is all about applying the concepts to real situations. It's absolutely necessary to know them to the deepest level for you to do this. If econ comes to you naturally, good for you; if not,read/ask the TA to piece up info.(no last minutes-concepts are there to build)/go to office hrs & ask and clarify things & make yourself familiar to him :)
for this class you need to know how to study the write way.Review your notes- recopy them, redraw graphs, rethink all the concepts to make sure you understand it.If you don't understand the notes, look in the book. ppl sayHaulman is the best econ professor but that's only b/c all the econ professors are terrible.hes not terrible but hes pretty bad
Completely useless. Rambles for hours at a time on irrelevant topics. Only go on days problem sets are due, because he goes over them in class before you hand them in. Then re-do all the problems to study for the exams. I think I went to six classes and came away with an A.
Not a bad class. I went to nearly every class and the tests were not too bad. I think he may haved curved a little, but I worked somewhat hard and got an A. He is a really nice guy, but does get off track. I would take his class again, although there are definitely easier teachers
professor haulman is great! he explains everything thoroughly, so there's really no need to read the book, as long as you take good notes in class. not a lot of homework-- 9 problem sets (only checked in, not graded), 2 midterms and 1 final (but free response, so study well before tests)
Outstanding. Take every class you can get with him. Material isn't easy if econ's not ur thing, but he is extremely fair. Optional papers for credit. 1 problem from the practice exam/ prob set is always on the real exam so make sure to do them. Go to class, pay attention, ask questions, and you'll make a B at worst and an A if you're into econ.
Professor Haulman does an outstanding job teaching Intro Microeconomics. He's a little more difficult than the other ECON101 professors but if you want to actually learn, take Haulman. Make sure to actually do the problem sets even though they're just for completion. Tests are easy if you have a mind for economics and take time to prepare.
Really nice guy, often let us out of class early and brought his two dogs in a couple times :) Only need to show up to turn in problem sets, which you have to do if you want to pass the exams. Do the problem sets over and over and go to the review sessions and the class isn't too bad overall.
Really nice guy, often let us out of class early and brought his two dogs in a couple times :) Only need to show up to turn in problem sets, which you have to do if you want to pass the exams. Do the problem sets over and over and go to the review sessions and the class isn't too bad.
LOVE THIS ADORABLE MAN! He's so nice - with two dogs and polos and cute sweaters, you can't go wrong. He honestly tries to get you interested, which is too bad because I never was. Harder to get an A than it should've been. Easier for athletes because they get old tests and review sessions beforehand. Study the problem sets.
A MUST HAVE PROFESSOR! Although his lectures are somewhat boring, he tries to connect students with the real world situations, which is hard sometimes. His tests are few problems, so if u screw one problem "game over." However, most problems are similar to the problem sets. HE IS AN ALSO EASY GRADER!! SO DO NOT LOSE HOPE IF U BOMBED THE FIRST TEST!
He's an AMAZING teacher. He has a great sense of humor, and is incredibly knowledgeable, and not just about economics. He always tries to give his students advice, tell them what's going on in the community, and link the subject matter to current events.
Haulman's a pretty good professor. Teaches mostly from the book, which is fine for an intro-level class. Still uses the same overhead transparencies from about 1970, and can be very monotonous. Overall, easy course and fairly informative.
Boring class, boring old man. Needs to retire rather than to continually suck the life out of what can be a dry topic anyway.
Cute professor. Tests are almost exactly like the problem sets, DO THEM!
This guy is the man. Nuff said.
Professor Haulman is awesome. He is understanding, kind, and willing to help. It's not difficult to do well if you pay attention and take notes. He provides Tuesday help sessions and office hours. His class is interesting enough and is a good class to take if your schedule has room.
Haulman is the most boring, ineffective lecturer I've had. He still uses the same projection slides he used in 1693 when he started teaching here. He layers graphs so they end up looking like fourth grader scribbles. As confusing and annoying as he was, the class was not impossible. Don't read, attend a majority of classes and go to the reviews.
Professor Haulman was a very good professor. While he's a little boring, he explained everything you needed to know in class, and I didnt use the book at all. Tests are all problems (no multiple choice), but he gives tons of partial credit. Good class.
This may be the most boring class ever created by human beings. Haulman is an interesting guy, especially the fact that he's vice mayor, but his lectures are incomprehensible. He still uses slides he made from the 70s. He makes the material hard with the various graphs, curves, etc.He is an easy grader though. I got a C when I should have got an F.
It's true that his class is boring, but I learned a lot. I liked how he handed out worksheets to go along with the lectures. His overheads were dated but it's not like the fundamentals of microeconomics are changing. Also, he is an easy grader and gives options for papers that can really only raise your grade. I would suggest for micro.
The guy knows his stuff (I guess that's the case when you've been around since the beginning of time). Problem for me was, I didn't.
Professor Haulman is the man, it's a shame he's retiring. I had him for econ 101 and is very accessible for office hours. 2 midterms and 1 final. not necessary to read the text book, but it definetly could help. if you want to learn econ, take this class.
I really liked Professor Haulman as a person but hated his class. He is not very clear and his tests are hard. Make sure to do the problem sets beforehand
Haulman's lectures are very repetitive. The first time he discusses a topic, you probably won't understand it, but he does the same thing each class for two weeks so by the end you should be able to understand it.
Prof. Haulman's lectures are slow, clear, and repetitive. Which is to say, extremely boring, but he makes it easy to understand the material. Lectures, problem sets, and the practice tests he provides directly reflect the material on the test. His review sessions are also very helpful.
Super nice guy, very helpful. Assigns a lot of reading but you can make it by without the readings if you know your stuff. Go to him for help, he will always point you in the right direction. Easy grader.
Haulman is a really helpful here at the college. he is approachable and clear about his expectations, also a really easy grader. for his seminar he assigns a lot of reading but can help you out if you are confused.
Professor Haulman has a deep understanding of the subject area; he is an engaging teacher, and allows much room for class discussion. He provided great support in writing the research paper. Reading load for the freshmen seminar is heavy and sometimes difficult, but he is quite understanding when the class is too busy to finish all the readings.
Nicest guy. Really wants the best for his students.
Freshman seminar on the Industrial Revolution. I found the class interesting, and Haulman was a GREAT professor. He clearly loves the subject matter, and he gets everyone else into it, too. There's probably 1-2 hours of reading for each class. Three short reaction papers, one term paper, and a final.
His lectures were pretty scattered, but that didn't matter too much since he's clear about how he wants the papers to be written. This class was interesting and explains why economic theories are the way that they are. Haulman was a extremely helpful and really just wants all of his students to do well.
Lectures can be difficult to follow sometimes, but if you at the very least skim the readings you'll be fine. Really passionate about the subject. Definitely pay extra attention when he compares/contrasts different economic ideas at the end of lectures since that's what the midterm and final are based on
He gives out lecture notes and he just reads from those notes during class, so I never feel like I'm missing much if I skip. There are 5 short papers throughout the semester and one term paper at the end, so it's a lot of writing. He gives extensions if you ask. There are a lot of readings, but I don't always do them and I'm doing well in the class
This has been my favorite econ class so far! It's basically an economic philosophy class, so you get to learn about econ thinkers throughout history. There were 5 short papers and one long (15-20p) term paper. Lectures are verbal only, no slides, but he also sends out notes which are helpful. Makes you think critically about econ theory!
This class was really boring and only seven people showed up for lectures which was a bit of a bummer, but going to the lectures was really helpful to understanding the readings (they were a little dense) and getting ideas for things to write on the exams and papers. There are 5 easy response papers, take-home final and midterm.
A pretty chill class, he mostly lectures a lot and occasionally cold calls. I enjoyed the lectures, it honestly felt kind of like a humanities class because it was so history and writing focused.
Love Professor Haulman. Class is centered entirely around close to 8 papers of varying lengths, mostly take-home. Lectures are all given w/ no slides, but he posts his speaking notes and attendance is "optional". Really nice guy and VERY passionate about what he's teaching. He's got a sick glasses frame collection too, so pay attention each day.
