This is my 9 am class, and it really wakes me up. He gets the whole class involved in the discussion, and makes you really think about the material. You can't just sit there quietly, but you really won't want to. He sure has a lot of enery, too!

Tests are easy if you go to class, take good notes & study them. His stories will help in learning the material. Required to volunteer/observe at a preschool for 8 hours and write a paper. Easy for an I course.

I would suggest using the on-line book link for extra practice tests and other stuff- super helpful. He makes a class that could be excruciating relatively painless.

Pentz is a great teacher who really makes an effort to get to know all his students. i absolutely loved this class. you have to be on your toes at all times but if you pay attention and catch on to his style it makes it fun. tests are pretty hard, but he grades easy on the 1 paper. he says on day 1 that he doesnt give many as, so just be ready.

Dr. Pentz is one of the main reasons that I am now studying to become a clinical psychologist! He sparked my interest in a way that no other professor has. He's cooky as hell, but I still use some of the principles that he taught in his class in my graduate study and research. If you want to LEARN Research Methods, his is the course to take!

if you do not like to go to class do not take him. by the end of the semester you will know his wife, his grandchildren, and his son in law inside and out. you cannot miss class, however you do learn research methods in this class and there's 2 papers a 20 pag. and a 30 pag one and 3 tests. which is very stressful but he'll help u through them

DON'T TAKE IT-- every test covers 4-5 chapters in DETAIL. Questions like "PICK THE BEST ANSWER" and just ridiculous little things. Everyone does horrible on the tests. It's not worth taking your time unless you want to aim for a C.

His class was a lot of fun. However, you have to attend class and you absolutely have to participate. NO choice on the last one. He will go around the room, making sure everyone says something. His story are funny, and he manages that by the end of the story you have learned sth relevant. He is a super nice gu. He wants you to do well.

This grade you get in this class is based on 3 tests, a final, and a 8-12 page term paper(easy!). It's almost impossible to get an "A" on the tests unless you read the text and absorb ALL of the material in. Tests are based on the book so you must read! and he's a little strict about class attendence.

Dr. Pentz offers a break from the PowerPoint/Overhead style of lecturing. His style is high energy and interactive. There are outside-of-class interaction-with-senior components to this course. The knowledge gained in this class is more practical than intellectual--again, a nice break from the rest of the week.

Dr. Pentz is an interesting man. He's very passionate about what he's teaching and encouraged me to look forward to getting older- not afraid. Sometimes it was hard for me to tolerate his excitement, but he really is a great instructor. It's important to read the book. Tests aren't too bad and there are two easy papers to write. Stay on top of the reading to be succesful. Keep the tests because some multiple choice questions will come up again.

You both love him and hate him. His energy can be exciting or annoying. He'll call on you a lot, but most of the time you barely get to open your mouth before you're interrupted again. He's the most well meaning man I've ever met, but he needs to learn that he's not teaching young children who are in need of mindless entertainment.

He is probably the most well-intentioned teacher i have ever had. He really cares about his students. However, he does go on tangents that don't particularly relate to the coursework. But! he pretty much holds your hand through the course. He is a really great guy and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to have him as a teacher! Great guy!

What a great Prof. Yes he does go off on wild stories, but somehow they vaguely relate to the material. Lots of interaction in the class, makes it fun. Really cares about your success, and guides you through exams and papers.

He doesn't go over the material in the text, but you definitely need to know whats in there. Tests can be tough if you're not prepared, but if you read and listen to his lectures, you'll be fine.

He makes class fun and makes students feel involved, but really he just wants to steal the show. A lot more could have been covered in the same amount of time. Still, not a bad class. If you're looking to really learn in depth, maybe take someone else.

I love this teacher, he is the most understanding person ever and will even postpone tests for you no questions asked, I was having a really rough time during the semester and I asked him to take the test at a later day and he gave me until I was ready to take it. Fun class, easy class, great teacher! TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

Yeah hes funny, for he is a great entertainer and has a vibrant personality but, as far as teaching goes, hes horrible at it. His lectures have no structure, he never gets to the point, and goes off on tangents about him and his family. Hard to get an A b/c his tests are tricky and dont cover lec material. Great to chat w/ but thats about it!

Dr. Pentz teacher is a fun guy, but he's an ego maniac. Don't steal the spotlight from him and tell him what he wants to hear, and you're bound for a B. His exams aren't as clear as they could be, and he is extremely redundant in his lectures(it feels like he dumbs down the material and focuses on drilling basic info in your head). Wasn't for me.

this is a capstore you will write 2 long papers each 8-12 pages and do a voluteer activity short paper 2-3 pages. and two other papers that go with each exam 1st paper about4-6 pages 2nd paper 3-5 Theres a lot of writing (its a capstone) but you can get and A or B in the class if you do the work! Only two exams midtearm and final TAKE GOOD NOTES!

Attendance is mandatory but he's very into his lectures. Tells you exactly what he needs from you on papers and for tests. No surprises and he gives you lots of time in class to prepare for exams and essays. He even let us out early when he found out we had a text next class! Super nice guy. (:

Walked into the class not expecting much at all but Dr. Pentz really made the class enjoyable! Attendance is a must as he gets to know everyone on a first name basis but his lectures are extremely fun and interesting. He gives you a study guide for the tests that really help. Don't really need the book but the packet is used for the final paper.

This class was interesting but I did not like how attendance was mandatory. Tell him from the beginning if you know you will miss class. Even if you miss class, you don't really miss much. He WILL remember if you miss class so show up! Make sure to review notes, and complete the papers!

Dr. Pentz is one of those "once in a lifetime" professors. This is a challenging class to get an A in, because the tests can be tricky & there's no study guide. That being said, you really have the opportunity to walk away from this class a better person because of what/how Dr. P teaches. He really is, much like his hats and ties, a one of a kind.

His study guides cover more than what he tests you on usually. In my experience, "Beyond Feelings" is the only book you need for PSY130.

Dr. Pentz is by far the best professor I've had at Long Beach. He honestly cares about his students and really wants to establish trust between himself and his students. He is so positive and really gives you a better outlook on aging. Totally recommend him!
