He always shows up 5-10 minutes late. The class isn't too hard but he's not the greatest teacher, which makes it boring, and harder.
Harmon is a great teacher! He's very nice and fair, as well as understanding. I've had him for two other classes, and I've enjoyed them both. He is very clear and thorough, and doesn't try to trick you. Very accessible and helpful in office hours as well.

harmon is a very nice teacher, very fair, is straightfoward and very clear. He's also very accessible and accomodating, and is always there to help out! He also has a sense of humor and make the class that much more enjoyable
I came into this class without having any economics under my belt(except a semester in high school), and I didn't have any trouble keeping up.. he is extremely straightforward and has a good sense of humor, not to mention the first midterm was take home
Best professor I've ever had at UCSB! He's a really funny guy who tries to make accounting material interesting (and he actually does a good job of it!). By the way, he also usually ends class about 15 min early.
Great professor! I was excited to take this class and Harmon made it great! He explains everything step by step and makes sure that the class understands it. As long as you keep on top of the homework and quizzes, it's easy to handle. Funny prof too.
He's pretty nice. So far, the first midterm was pretty easy.
Abosulutely the greatest accounting professor here at UCSB! Extremely clear and straightforward. Explains material so well with much detail and clarity.
Very straightforward. Easy to understand, the problems and concepts for lecture are what show up on tests. The in class quizzes seem to be graded on an all or nothing scale. I would either get a perfect or a F on them.
harmon kicks ass!!!
very chill class and prof....
Definitely knows his stuff and explains things in a very clear manner. As long as u keep up on all the work you will do fine in the class.
The greatest teacher! I will miss his teaching!
What a great professor. I always get the feeling that he wants us to succeed unlike MANY other classes I've been in.
easy class, dont go to class, just read the book.
Good teacher, same format as 3A. Much easier to achieve a good grade than in Sanders' 3B class. Harmons powerpoints are helpful.
Awesome teacher! Not hard, and straight to the point! He makes a boring subject, bareable! I definitely will take him for my upper division econ classes!
Harmon is a great teacher, makes a dull subject somewhat interesting. Very fair and straightforward about tests, study his old tests and you'll do well.
Coby is awesome. He cares and makes it interesting. Take this class if you want to have a positive experience at UCSB!!
One of the best accounting teacher in UCSB. He is funny and explains really well. Besides, he is easy grade teacher. He curves a lot. I cant believe I get A in his class. I didnt do that well in his exam. He is sooooooooooooooooo nice.
he tries to make it a bit easier than other teachers . study his old exams will help u out a lot! attend all his lectures and u can just skip the book! don't fall behind and u'll get a good grade.
Straight forward with what he expects. Well organized.
Great Teacher, lecturer, guy.
Very nice guy, down to earth, but the class is the most boring class I've ever taken. Other than that he's a really nice guy.
Great prof and hottie!
He's the best!
a very good and easy teacher. i really liked him and this class. i'd definitely recommend this class to anyone!
Great guy. Lots of oppertunities for extra credit. Tests are easy and exactly what he goes over in class. Lecture can get boring at times. Also the tutors for this class were nothing but hot girls the quarter I took it.
Harmon is the best! His lectures are clear and he has slides you can print offline. One of the best professors i've had yet. not to mention he's not bad to look at either
I was looking forward to this class because I had him for 3A. But beware, this class is harder than 3A, but worth it. He's a great professor and if you study your notes and slides, you'll be fine. He's easy to get along with too.
Very nice and fun lecturer. Not normal CPA and loves to teach. Tries his best to make boring accounting material interesting or at least manageable. Class isn't too easy however, don't slack and know the material like exactly from the book or else you won't get credit on the tests.
Very fun professor to have... always laughter in class... very easy going...
very easy going guy with straight forward tests. the class itself isn't that hard to comprehend but he makes it even easier.
Very nice prof! He's funny and tried to keep lectures entertainig. You have to study for that class, it's not that easy, but defenitely worth it! Test are very fair and straight forward.
Tests are a little difficult. A lot of reading. Boring class.
Just a great teacher that I highly reccomend taking if you are to get into the accounting program. Very knowledgeable, prepares and presents his lectures well in class, and is a laidback, funny guy. Tests really aren't that hard if you just pay attention in class and review previous exams. Awesome.
He's my fave teacher on campus:) Go Coby!!!
The Cob-ster is a decent teacher, however, when looking at past midterms, his classes are becoming increasingly difficult. The tests are outrageously hard, and there is very little in class help available. Get ready to talk about the same subject for hours at a time, and still not know what to do.
His classes are getting harder, but he is an amazing teacher. Lectures sometimes get a little boring, but thats just the class. What I love about him is his approachfullness. He really wants to help his students succeed. Hes a funny guy too, fun teacher!
His classes are getting harder for sure. Previous exams were much easier. Class is not as easy as indicated. He knows what he's talking about, and is helpful with questions.
Coby is a great teacher. Still his class is not that easy. Everyone says it's a piece of cake. I don't think so. I got an A- but I studied my ass off!! So be pepared to study a lot if you wanna get a good grade! Nice person though, but hard material!
Easiest class this quarter for sure. Studied before the Midterms and Final and pulled an A. Only went to the first section, then realized I didn't need it. Definitely hold out to take Harmon for Accounting if you can.
Well I'm definately in love with this man. Coby Harmon is the most awesome teacher you will ever find in the world. He's totally laid back, funny and approachable but at the same time is completely knowledgable on the subject. His class is not easy but if you do the work you can get a good grade. Take this class just to experience Coby Harmon!
Harder than 3A. Not because Harmon is more difficult, but because there is much more material. Still, I didn't think the class was too hard. Harmon is an excellent teacher as always show really shows that he knows his stuff. Just be ready to put in more effort to maintain a good grade.
I heart Coby. The midterm and final weren't too bad though you really need to study for those. There's a lot of material covered but it wasn't too bad if you did the reading. Sections aren't too helpful though.

Harmon is not a great teacher, nor a bad one. With regards to auditing, he taught off of outdated slides. To his credit, he often conducted group exercises to keep everyone from passing out.

This guy does his best to make accounting somewhat interesting. I still slept through most of the lectures because he has a very hypnotic voice. He's a very cool guy though and has some good stories from his time in the workforce.
Easier than Sander but probably less interesting in terms of lectures. Grading seemed really nitpicky, especially for essay questions and the account titles. Actual problems are not that hard, just long and tedious. Homework always seemed to ask things before we did them in class, and some proceedures to solve his problems are not in the book
he was difficult in 136C. Very clear lectures though.
This **** completely has changed the way he gives test. No one was completely ready for this stupid test. He says he'll give you one thing and does the other.
these were easy classes, but he's not that great as an instructor.
I heard he was easy and then he changed his tests and easiness. He is NOT as easy as he used to be. Don't take this class if you think you'll breeze by
He was very clear in lecture and the homework prepares you for tests. Just do the homework and you will do well. It's to your benefit to look at the practice tests online too. Easy A because I worked a couple practice problems in each chapter.
well, I have to say, even though he tries to be funny sometimes, I still fall asleep in his class. His class is much easier than Crouch's classes. Very nice guy indeed!! Love him so much! I wish I can have him for econ 3b.
He's such a nice guy, and sooooo much easier than sander. Damn, I wish I could have him for 3b, but I DONT!!! His voice puts you to sleep sometimes, but over all, he knows his stuff well and the final was easy.
I love him. Great guy and great prof. Very funny in his own strange way. Makes the topic undertandable. Definatly take him if you have the chance. Make sure you do the homework and the tests aren't to bad.
harmon is the man. his class is not bad if you do the reading and pay attention. do the homeworks and you'll be fine. and harmon is just awesome...hes funny and goofy and overall a great guy!take the honors section if you can
Harmon's lectures are a little iffy, a little all over the place, and the tests are difficult and sometimes a little tricky. Homeworks aren't too bad. Pay attention to the lectures especially and in-class/printed out problems.
There's more to a good teacher than being able to tell jokes. Test questions were made to throw you off and trick you. Homework assignments given before he actually explains the topic assigned. If you don't understand the homework, tough. "Figure it out." Unfair grading policies, generalized lectures where the homework and tests are deceiving.AVOID
harmon is overrated. reading off of your powerpoint slides is NOT teaching and it doesn't help to assign homework when he hasn't fully gone over the subject yet. sucks that he teaches more classes than prof. maass, now that is a REAL teacher. don't let his laid-back persona fool you, his tests are tricky and unpredictable.
Harmon doesn't give the easiest tests, but he is by far one of the best professors I have had at UCSB. He is totally chill and provides great lectures. His lectures are clear and he's always willing and available to help with any questions you have. As long as you have a grasp on everything covered in lecture, you'll be fine.
He's trying to remove his reputation as an easy teacher. The tests were really random...I dropped his class and took Sander instead. I'd recommend Sander over him. When he makes jokes in class, it doesn't make the class any more understandable.
Definitely overated. Doesn't really teach, just reads his slides, gives simple examples, then assigns homework problems that he doesn't ever go over in class. Other acctg teachers are far superior in terms of teaching ability and knowledge/real job experience
I mean he was okay in 3A, but he started to be irresponsible for all the upper-division classes. Seriously, he always showed up late and then kind of went over the materials. Why have I taken so many classes with him, because he was always the only lecturer for the classes that I wanted to take. Just read the book and you will be fine.
The past few reviewers have been so right. Harmon was good in 3A, but his fall 136C course is frustrating. he straightup does not teach; we could all read the slides at home in lieu of lecture. he has wasted soo much time getting started, and his last midterm had a really low average. I MISS LISA MAAS, even sander. (we'd actually be learning)
Cool professor and even cooler guy, but his tests are very unclear and erratic because he writes them the night before. If he didn't try to trick you so much on exams the class would be much better.
I have had Coby in the past and he was much more motivated back then. For 136C, he relies on his slides to teach the class, his blah attitude makes the class frustrating, and he overall just doesn't seem interested in what's going on. Shows up, opens his computer, and continues reading us the slides that we have in front of us already.
Have had him for the past two quarters. Even though there are rumors that he's been pressured by the department to make his classes more difficult, he is still very fair. Although his tests are much harder than the quarters before, he is generous enough to offer multiple extra credit assignment. He is absolutely adorable and funny.Love him.Take him
I have also taken Coby's class before and was actually looking forward to taking him again before the quarter. Simply does not do a good job getting the concepts and teaching across to his students. Like others have said, we can read the slides on our own. Would suggest taking another professor for this class.
Never asnwers any emails, this is the information age! Very lazy, confuses the hell out of students. Students who took the class 2 quarters ago are 100% better off, his classes have gotten ridiculously hard. Take anyone else besides him, even Sanders, yes I said even Sanders.
harmon really dropped the ball this quarter. every assignment and test he gave was full of errors...the course organization is horrible...why are there no TAs, sections, or review sessions for this class? they would've been a helpful supplement to coby's unmotivated teaching style. hugely regret taking 136c! his front row pet's are ANNOYING
don't take this class with him, take with the other professor.
While you never have to goto class or discussion other than on days of midterms or final, you should. Coby explains the material very well because he knows it and knows how to teach it. The TA's are undergrads so they barely know anything. The book is useful, but you can do without it if you show up to every class and pay attention.
Prof. Harmon is one of the best teachers at UCSB. The reason his classes have got harder is because of the student perception that they could cheat and use old tests to get ahead in the class. If easy means doing that well then your right the class is hard. Sorry, but learning takes a little more than that. If you take the time to go see him and ge
He's so self oriented, setting unreasonable rules.....fake you in the preview of exams.......
This guy has to be the worse accounting teacher in the department right now. The guy does not teach the material well at all and gives you a lot of busy work thats not worth your time. With that said, this class is very important for the cpa exam so you might want to take this class anyways.
HW takes forever if you don't know Excel. HW questions riddled with mistakes, some basic theory and definitional multiple choice questions very difficult and wastes your time. Lectures are useless. Study hard on your own with the book
He doesn't teach. He cares more about doing work for the publisher than about teacher the students who pay for the class. Give long winded HW assignments that are due every class. DO NOT TAKE HARMON FOR ANY UPPER DIVISION COURSE
This class is dreadful. The homework is tedious and theres one due every class. The course material is probably the dullest and driest i've encountered in accounting. However, you still may want to take it cause its supposed to be important for cpa exam. Harmon didnt teach it particularly well this quarter however.
Harmon is a joke. The only students who praise him are acctg nerds and suck-ups. Doesn't teach the material but actually expects you to know the stuff because you're suppose to be "responsible students." Always misleads you on the test materials and basically leaves you to your own devices. Test questions are always worded funky. AVOID AVOID AVOID
He's gotten a lot harder this year (2007) than 2006 when I had him for 3A. Be weary of his multiple choice on the exams - lots of obscure questions and stuff he mentioned in passing and full of TRICK QUESTIONS.
Is a great teacher, tests are pretty easy and so is hw. Go to class ask questions get A
DO not take this class, does not care to help much. Selfish professor, not helpful at all.Avoid at all costs, trust me!
Took 136A during the summer. It was the easiest A to earn. He is completely relaxed over the summer. Not very organized but it pays off for you to just go to class and deal with it. He says things in class that are important to the tests, so if you don't go to class, won't know. Tests are okay and he gets the questions right out of the back of book
Took Coby in the summer for 136A, easy A. Thought 136B in the fall would be the same. It was more difficult than before. Coby was trying to make things more challenging but didn't end up enforcing some of what he said he would. LOTS of extra credit opportunities. Can't miss class though. That could hurt your grade b/c he gives test info inadvance
make you do the hw which he hasnt talked about it yet.Sux, dun take it
HORRIBLE teacher. He has no regard for the success of his students. His help is next to nothing and his lectures can best be described as ramblings. Avoid him like the plague.
His office hours are not very helpful. He may seem to try really hard to teach the material in class but doesn't care about his students much. Overall an ordinary instructor.
Harmon is a pretty good professor. If you go to class and pay attention the hw isn't too hard, sometimes I felt like the multiple choice questions on his tests were a little random but overall he is a fair teacher. He's also helpful at explaining things if you talk to him after class.
It was an okay class. Interesting accounting topics that are useful for the CPA exam and for careers in accounting, but the teaching style was not great. We seemed to be moving too slow and was left to teach ourselves a majority of the topics. Multiple choice are tricky and the government accounting topic could have been taught a lot better.
Best teacher I've had at UCSB. I'm a Buis-Econ major with an accounting emphasis and Harmon taught me everything so well and prepared me for future classes. He is very smart, funny, and entertaining. He wants his students to succeed. TAKE HIS CLASS and I promise you will love it.
He used to be a nice guy, but apparently changed his teaching style. Do not really like him. He is not interested in the success of his students, which is a shame for a prf
i saw some of my classmates rating coby, lol. let me take it further. coby WAS a nice guy when he was teaching 136b, but not seem to be so in 139. he relied too much on the wiley ppt show, what he did every cls was to give the answer he get from the solution manual+showing the ppt from the publisher. we can do all this at home, cant we?
Teaches well and explains concepts in a clear fashion. Similar style to Anderson. Overall hes a great professor and he can make frog noises. What more is there to say?
Teaching style pretty much identical to Anderson. Nice guy, good teacher. Was very clear and open to questions. Explained things thoroughly until students understood. Very willing to go over tests and homework. i would recommend him
Fantastic professor. I have taken him for nearly all my accounting classes and enjoyed everyone. Yes tests can be difficult but most of the topics he teaches are difficult. Others say he doesn't care about our success but he actually does. He just doesn't hold your hand the whole time.
Harmon is extremely helpful and clear about course material. Very patient with students and make sure they understand what is going on. Good, helpful lectures. Easy and interesting honors section. Nice guy, I would recommend him.
horrible prof. reads his slides which you can get online and completely overuses whiley plus. a lot of people say he's really nice, but they're brown nosers. he designs his test so that you fail. will go over a subject briefly and ask two ridiculously hard questions about it on the midterm
Harmon just reads off the slides. There isn't really a point to going to class because he doesn't talk about anything in detail and the slides are online. If you read the book and do the homework, you should do fine in the class. The only point to going to lecture is that he will give extra credit occasionally.
Straightforward class. Slides cover most everything but reading the chapters will cinch an A. Just study the online homeworks and slides well and you'll be fine for the exams.
Funny and awesome
by far the BEST teacher at UCSB!very enthusiastic about teaching and helping students learn. the only reason why ppl r complaining is cuz they probably didnt study and only memorized. his exams test concepts n understanding NOT memorization. LOVED THIS CLASS AND LOVE HIM! give alot of extra credit. fun n interesting class. recommend it
One of UCSB's best. Great speaker easier to understand. Also, has a ton of patience with his students. Excellent story teller too.
If you are in the econ department it's impossible to avoid Harmon. Don't worry too much, but it's difficult to get an A because he doesn't make it clear what the tests are going to cover. Know everything he mentions in class, even if he only mentions it briefly. No midterm or final review guides. Wiley Plus homework much harder than in 3A.
I took econ 139 last spring. I got an A in the class but had to work really hard. We had just moved to a new textbook and as such the homework was a bit chaotic and some of the answers were incorrect in the solutions he showed us during class. The first midterm is difficult, the second not so bad. The Finals are VERY difficult. We could take home.
Coby!!!!!!! Midterms kind of hard but fair... good guy though pretty funny
Like he said the first day, he's the older version of Anderson. People saying its hard are simply people who barely studied. If you learn the content of the slides by heart and do all the practice exercise he gives us on wiley plus, there is no way in hell you can get a grade lower than B. All it takes is practice.
The homework he gave was ridiculous. He made us do the homework even before we had the class!!That also counts into your final grade.First mid term questions were really difficult addition with short time. Second mid term we been told the format is multiple choice on the day of exam.He was confirmed before that there would be work sheet questions!
I like Harmon as a person (and for Econ 3b) but for 139, he kinda sucked. He was unorganized, used a book that was full of incorrect information, inconsiderate in posting assignments in a timely fashion, and grading didn't seem to reflect the work contributed or knowledge gained. There are 2 midterms that were hard and had too much for the time all
It's very simple: If becoming a CPA is not your ulitmate goal, then don't take this class. Those of you who want to become CPAs and have complained about this class need to suck it up. If you want professors to hold your hand throughout your entire college career consider switching into comm or soc because this is not the place for you.
All he does in class is read off slides which isn't effective in teaching a class on accounting. Midterm was difficult. Don't recommend, but problem is he's the only professor that teaches 3b.
Have had various classes with Harmon. Not the easiest teacher, but not overly difficult. If you study an average amount you will do decent. He is a funny, goofy dude and a genuine nice guy. Will help with all your CPA career advice. GOOD
He is a good teacher, although he can be slow on going over the material. Easy class if you focus thoroughly on what he expects you to know. Read wiley more than once and you can easily grasp everything. His honors section is an easy A and it's nothing relating to accounting - all about personal finance and life lessons. Quite interesting too.
Always went to his office hours and they were really helpful. Multiple choice on the tests were pretty difficult. Final had a lot of material that was unexpected. Overall, helpful and nice... easy B
Really great professor. He's funny and enthusiastic about teaching. His tests are fair and lets you know what's going to be one them beforehand. Wileyplus hw due every lecture are easy points as well as the weekly assignments for section.
Simply reading off slides during lecture isn't effective in teaching accounting. WileyPlus homework didn't help much in preparing for the midterm. Don't recommend this Professor.
Great Professor. Fairly easy class as long as you put in time. Multiple Choice counts for a big chunk of test. The best way to do well in that is simply read the chapters throughly. Working out part of test is just like class examples.
Love Harmon! NOt too hard of a class pretty straight forward
Honestly can say I liked him till I got my grade back. Asked him IN CLASS before the final if grading will be on points like the syllabus, he said yes... He then, after grading the final he decided to make take-home, decided grades were too high and curved everyone DOWN! So pissed Goodbye A because of his inconsistencies
Had an A- before the final. Got a 96 on the final. Get a B+ in the class. He tells me I needed 20 points more to get to the next highest grade (A-). I lost less than 20 points on the final. Had I gotten 100% on the final I still would have ended up with a lower grade than before. WORST PROFESSOR IN THE ECON DEPARTMENT. Also, what person below said.
Professor Harmon is one of my favorite teachers at UCSB. His tests can be tricky but as long as you go to lecture and do the Wileyplus you can get at least a B+. He gets a lot of his short answer problems directly from the homework and also tells stories in class to keep it interesting. Would definitely recommend Harmon.
He knows what he's teaching, so it's not that he's a bad professor, he just makes his tests so hard now! My friend took the class last quarter and said it was mainly mc. That is no longer the case. He has about 20 T/F and about 12 short answers. Great guy, funny, not hard to look at...I just wish he was an easier test-maker/grader.
While the class material and class in general was not difficult, he himself was very rude and not approachable. Section is mandatory for this class and there is a very easy TA graded project that you work on throughout the quarter. Made tests seem more difficult more stressful than they were because of all of the procedures to prevent cheating.
He's friendlier in class than in office hours. A little too sarcastic for my taste.
Does not really summarize or explain anything. Has a habit of just "dumping" information with no regard for discerning any sense of priority. Going to his class is like being self taught without any guidance.
I liked Harmon in 3B and 136A, but this class was a mess-- disorganized and hard to follow during class, unapproachable and aloof outside of class. What he taught in class was often different from what the book said. Worse still, independent googling of these discrepancies often resulted in a third answer as unhelpful as the rest. Take at own risk.
First half of the class is pretty easy, explains the subject reasonably well and midterm isn't too bad. Second half of the class...good god, doesnt explain homeworks properly before assigning, contradicts textbook 50% of the time, has multiple wrong answers on the homework for the most confusing part of the class (which is 50% of final).
DON'T DO IT!!!! GREAT INFO BUT WILL DRAIN YOU OF ALL BRAINPOWER AND ENERGY!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE 139 WITH HARMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Course wasn't difficult, but the readings and homework require some time(2-5 hrs). How to do well: read the text over and over, take practice MC test on Wiley before quizzes, be punctual with homework(find HW partner), master examples he goes over in class, do additional problems for practice. Non-cumulative(post midterm material is more difficult)
Avoid Harmon and his SBP class. The only SBP class that assigns homework. Try to make everyone participate, have to tell ethical Dilemma, just a bunch of philosophy on ethics, no answers just questions, and he always seems angry and irritated. No study during lecture policy too
He was very clear, and fair. I've heard interesting reviews about him during the year, but this class was so easy. Curved like all the classes but if you pay attention in class, and do the hw this class is cake. Easiest upper division accounting class I've taken
Lecture is useless, extremely monotonic, and manages to make accounting even more boring. He writes his tests the night before so its unpredictable. Still, it makes you work harder and that got me an A in the class by getting the highest score on the final. Don't give up and you should be fine.
First off that average grade of an A is wrong. Now that is not to say that Harmon is bad. He's great at keeping your attention, he's very quirky. He does big examples in class that are very useful. Definitely pay attention in class! The class is tough but Harmon is fair, & his tests are straightforward. Do the practice problems in the book & Wiley!
I've had a good experience with Professor Harmon being my 3B instructor. He's a funny guy and an easy-going person. Both midterms& the final were fair. In order to get a good grade in this class, read the book thoroughly and do EVERY problem in the back of the chapters. That way, you'll be ready for the curveballs he may throw at you. Good luck.
Read the book and do all of the practice problems in the back of each chapter. HIGHLY recommend that.
Great personality, open door policy and very cooperative when you have problems with anything. Sometimes makes an appearance as the most interesting person in the room and lives up to that impression 90% of the time. 1st Prof I meet whose Workload is considerable, yet never appears pointless or like he makes you work for the sake of working. #lad
Harmon is a great lecturer. He explains the accounting concepts very clearly and is able to make them relatable, so as to make the lectures much less dry than they could be. He bases his tests solely off of the reading and homework, so if read the book and use the study tools it provides, you will not be surprised by anything on his tests.
Kept me awake and engaged with his humor. Very knowledgeable in the material and always makes things crystal clear. As others have said, do all the textbook practice problems to be prepared for those curveballs he might throw at you in the midterm/final. That will definitely make or break your grade.
I had Harmon for 3B and thought he was a great lecturer.. However that was a couple of years back and a totally different class. It seemed as if he got lazier for 136C and did NOT explain stuff all that well. The material was way harder for this class and his lectures were essentially pointless. Get ready to pretty much teach yourself everything.
Favorite accounting prof so far! He's super quirky and a great teacher. Also, he's always available to help in his office hours outside lecture.
I honestly really love professor Harmon!! he is very inspirational, I love to go to his lectures. He can sometimes give out extra credit (those extra credits are like curveball) when he feels like not so many students are attending the lecture. And you should do well on midterms because the final was SUPER hard!!!
Harmon is a really good guy but his tests are awful. Multiple choice always and not the stereotypical "easy" multiple choice. Killed my GPA. Liked him a lot but not his testing style.
This professor has really hard exam and he always be rude to students. You can't get good grade once you made one mistake in exam.
This class was incredibly hard. I spent an average of about 10 hours a week on this class doing homework and taking handwritten notes. This class is no joke . . . Midterm 2 and the final were incredibly difficult and probably each had 25 tricky questions out of the 50, and our class average was WAYYY too high for the difficulty level...
Mr. Harmon is one of the funniest and quirkiest professors in the economics department. He deeply understands the subject and clearly answers any questions. The material is a bit dry but not too difficult. His humor definitely made the class more interesting. Do well on exams because high class averages may cause the curve to lower your raw grade!
"Woo woo! Nay-Nay! *frog sound. *cat purr-ish sound." The professor is really funny and the material is pretty straight forward. Just read the textbook if you REALLY want to understand what he talks about in class. A little bit of every aspect of studying will go a long way.
Harmon is funny with animal noises and this was the easiest out of the 136C series for me, even though the material is the most difficult (took Fulkerson for 136A and Hulme for 136B). Attendance not important, but read through the textbook and review the extra problems he provides. All multiple choice tests, he answers questions well during exams
He is the best professor in the world. I took every class that he taught and received A in every class.
average when it comes to actually teaching the material but the curve is generous and he is open to changing grading materials in favor of the students, such as making some hws extra credit, some test questions as extra credit, etc.
7 exams, all mc, and drop 1 lowest. But clearly not enough time to take the exams, 25-40 mins each only. The main point is that sometimes you don't find the correct answer from any of the selections, so you will get extremely confused when taking the exam with that short amount of time. And what he teaches is different from what you see from exams
I took it during the summer and Harmon was so funny and accessible. He gives a lot about real world examples. His tests were pretty easy and all mc, but because the class is curved, it is about the least mistakes you make. I learned a lot as my first accounting class.
I had Harmon for 136A and just had him for 136C. For me, his classes were pretty hard. The only class I've gotten these grades in was 10A. That being said, I enjoy him as a person and he is pretty funny which makes his class less frustrating. If you dedicate all your time to this class then you will do well, otherwise be ready to settle for a B/C.
brb crying because I just had my last lecture of my last class offered by Harmon. I will sincerely miss his uplifting "rrrraaarr"s and "woo woo"s mid-lecture. He is the best at explaining difficult concepts very logically. Focus your efforts on what he covers in Lec, supplement w/ the textbook & you'll do great.
Only graded by our tests, and homework. There are tests after each chapter which was nice, but he makes them insanely hard with a tight time constraint for no reason. The homework is super long, but you do get a week to do them, however it's only worth 10% of your grade despite how much you have to do.
Coby is a very great person. However, I cant say this about his teaching. Doesnt teach much and if he does, 80% of his lectures dont reflect the test material. In response to someone confronting him about his lack of teaching, he said hes not here to hold our hand. So we are basically spending a lot of money to read a book and get a grade.
Overall, I thought Professor Harmon was a pretty good teacher. His lectures weren't the most in-depth, but they covered parts of what you needed to know for the weekly quizzes. The other part was by reading the textbook. I enjoyed his odd humor and noises. His quizzes were tricky, but once you figure out how he tests the class becomes much easier.
Harmon is not a bad professor by any means but definitely does not cover enough information to properly prepare for the midterms. Very fair with curves and nice to talk to. You will just have to self-teach to some degree.
This is my first class with Professor Harmon, and it has been a wonderful ride. Although Professor Harmon teaches off slides, he gets into details and explains materials well enough that I don't necessarily have to read to figure out what I'm doing. Homework is a tough endeavor, and there are seven (or eight) of them, so get ready to do the work.
Coby is so sweet and I can tell he cares about his students, however I found it hard to pay attention in class as he tunneled into topics/went on tangents. 3 tests, non-cumulative, heavily based on Wiley practice questions.
First half of class on consolidation went well, but afterwards the different topics seemed kind of disorganized. Attending lecture is important, textbook is kind of dense and a pain to sift through for his main points. Not a hard class, but just hard to stay on top of things and know what to learn/study for the second half of the class
I enjoyed Coby, I liked his lectures and didn't mind going to class. It definitely takes some effort in the class, but the curve is strong so you'd be fine most likely. I guessed on the final and still passed so that was nice.
Professor Harmon is a gem - while lectures can be disorganized, his engaging style and generous curve make this class very doable. Attend class, use the textbook, and try unstuck ai for easy study prep.
Lectures were very engaging
Coby's a great prof but his lectures aren't structured well. It's sometimes hard to follow/a bit all over the place, but I'm glad he gives handouts to students. READ THE TEXTBOOK! Not everything on the exam is something he talks abt! EC opportunities randomly in lectures, which you should attend bc he gives out exam questions! All exams are 50 MCQ!
