This teacher is awesome! He took a topic that I didn't know a ton about and made it easier to understand. He genuinely cares about his students too, he is on first name terms with almost everyone! Probably the coolest teacher I have had on campus so far.
Amazing professor! Kept the material interesting and his lectures were hardly boring. Go to class and take some notes and you'll come out with a good grade.
I took G109 to get some of my natural science requirements out of the way. I started the class with very little interest in the subject but learned so much and found Professor Kirkpatrick to be a great professor. As a young professor he keeps the class interesting without seeming like he doesn't have control over the class. Definitely recommended!
He was a really good teacher, and his tests weren't that bad. He had a lot of warmup questions which were easy points that help your grade a lot. I would recommend taking him if you can!
Best professor I've had on campus thus far. I've had Dr. Kirkpatrick for 3 semesters now and he is a really great guy. He genuinely cares about the success of his students and is a great overall teacher.
Great man, great teacher, great voice. Let the honeyed tones of Dixieland wash over you as your mind is opened to the transcendent wonders of the Earth's atmosphere. Roll Tide.
One of the best instructors I've had in college. I've taken several of his classes and enjoyed all of them. He is very helpful to students and genuinely cares about students grades. I would recommend him for any course.
Dr. Kirkpatrick is wonderfully enthusiastic about course material. He is always available to answer questions. He adapts lectures to fit student's needs and interests. Dr. Kirkpatrick wants his students to succeed, and it certainly shows.
Cody is probably the nicest, most understanding teacher I've ever had in college. His class is interesting, if you attend regularly and do the warm up Q's you're pretty much set. Again, Cody is the man!!
Probably the best professor I had at IU. Kind, funny, always willing to help and super flexible with homework stuff.
Cody or "Dr. K" as we call him is arguably the best professor in the Geology department and definitely one of the better professors at IU. His lectures are engaging and interesting and he makes the material relevant and applicable to real-world scenarios. Homework is mostly reading and a few quizes. Read, go to class, and you will do well.
Not interested in the class I took with him's topic at all, but loved it solely because I was a big fan of Dr. Kirkpatrick. Great lectures, fair grader, still follow him on Twitter because he's just an overall cool guy.
I took this class for Critical Approaches and N&M credit. The topic of the course isn't what the class was about. Collaborative work is encouraged in the class but if you and partner have the same work than it is considered cheating. The study guides has nothing to do with exams. Would not recommend him unless you have to take the course.
I LOVED THIS CLASS. Cody is one of the best professors I've had at IU because he's obviously knowledgable in his field but makes everything really accessible to students and takes a lot of time for questions and making sure that everyone understands the material. He's also friendly and easy to talk to. Follow him on twitter for extra weather fun
Dr. K is an excellent professor, who makes an effort to insure you understand the material and are well prepared. If you also make an effort to learn and understand the material you will do well. Dr. K is also always available for help if you need it!
Dr. Kirkpatrick is an excellent instructor that knows how to make others learn. Attendance in his class is optional but there are occasional (7) pop quizzes given throughout the semester that account for 20% of the final grade. It is imperative to fully understand fundamental concepts as his tests build upon them to come to the correct answer.
He's not as kind as he seems to be. Grade corrections for exam were last minute. Test are tough and nothing like the study guide. Gives homework that has nothing to do with the exams. Definitely wouldn't take his course again!!!!
He seems like a really nice guy, and he wants all his students to be successful, but he has strange quirks when interacting with the class. For example, during review sessions he would say "Everyone knows what _____ is, right? Don't say it out loud. Everyone knows? Good, okay.", and move on. Why is the answer a secret? It's a review session!
Dr. K is one of my favorite professors at IU so far. I had a family emergency come up and had to turn an assignment in late. He was completely understanding and still gave me full credit. You have to go to class to really understand the material and tests can be misleading and tough, but overall I loved having Dr. K for G144.
I took this class only because I needed the N&M credit and It was defiantly not an easy class. I am also not majoring in anything to do with this class, but I actually enjoyed this class only because of him. He was an amazing teacher and even though I hated the actual class of it he made it enjoyable
He is a very sincere, and enthusiastic professor that has much passion in his course. The class itself is enjoyable with an influx of videos and engaging in-class activities. However, the homework, lectures, and study guides do not adequately prepare the students from performing well in the frustrating pop quizzes, and tests.
Prof. Kirkpatrick made the class really fun, while at the same time, informational enough to keep me (a science major) interested, and at the same time, respect the fact that it was a 100-level intro course. Homework assignments are fair and straightforward. Started the class with little interest in weather, but now I want to take another class!
I this class with Dr. K for my last N&M and as a non science major I really enjoyed it. He makes lectures interesting and really cares about making sure students are understanding the material. The textbook was a $10 book which was perfect and informative. His test questions are difficult so I highly recommend attending class and taking good notes
One of the most down to earth professors I've ever had, gets on the same level as students and connects with the class. Going to lectures is optional, but if you go you pretty much pass the class. Offers a lot of opportunities to boost grade through redemption assignments and extra credit. Class can be boring or exciting depending on topic covered.
Dr. K is simply the best. He genuinely cares about whether the students understand the material, encourages interaction and gives plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The tests are harder than the homework but if you come to class and pay attention you'll get an A. Pretty generous curve.
Dr. K. is by far my favorite professor I have had at IU. Cares about his students and is willing tell help them do well in the class. No attendance, but there are random quizzes. Exams are pretty tough so go to his office hours and he helps you know the material you should.
Amazing professor for general education course. His tests were hard but he always had lots of office hours the week before the test and always was available for help.
Professor Kirkpatrick is very intelligent and cool with his students. I took this class to fulfill a requirement and thought I'd receive an A... Um, no. This class IS NOT AN EASY A. DO NOT enroll in this class thinking you won't have to put in any work. He is the king of trick questions and assumes his students knows certain things when we don't.
IF YOU READ ANY REVIEWS OF DR. KIRKPATRICK READ THIS ONE: He is the ABSOLUTE NICEST professor, or even teacher, I have ever had. He genuinely loves what he's teaching, he's funny, and wants you to succeed and makes sure you do. His class is very interactive and he gets to know you and your name. An all around good person and an incredible teacher.
Professor K. was one of the best professors I have had. He makes a 100 level science class very interesting and enjoyable with a lot of videos and fun stories. GO TO CLASS! There are random quizzes that you will miss and get a 0 on if you skip. Tests can be hard but he curves a bit at the end of the semester. Highly recommend!
He is a very funny professor, however, in the class, you will assume the test will be similar to the content of the lecture & homework. But the exam will make you think you are in the wrong classroom. He just assumes that we know lots of things but actually, I don't (non-science major).
Professor K is awesome! He's super nice and his class is easy and informative. He really cares about his students, he even takes the time to know your name. The homework is pretty easy. You pretty much do not need to study for the exams if you go to lecture. He loves handouts, and the ones he gives you are super helpful! 10/10 recommend.
Very fun teacher! Explains thoroughly and so I never feel lost
Professor Kirkpatrick is awesome! He goes in depth and makes sure you know whats going on at all times. You can tell he really cares about what he does and overall hes just a great teacher. Attendance isnt mandatory, but if you dont go you might feel behind. All the pop quiz dates are in the syllabus so youll never be surprised by one.
Professor Kirkpatrick is an amazing professor. I am horrible at science and had anxiety about his Extreme Weather class but it ended up being one of my favorite classes in college. He explains things very well so non-majors understand it perfectly. He is passionate, fair, and as long as you show up to class, take notes, & study, you will pass!
He did a really good job of taking feedback from the students to decide where to take the course. He was one of the most helpful and enthusiastic professors I've ever had. You can tell he not only cares about the material but also that his students are learning. A great class to take if science isn't your subject and you need a helpful teacher.
I have had Dr.K for E144, A339, and A437. He is intimidating at first and picks people randomly, but don't be afraid, he's a cool guy and the further you get with him, the better it is. He has the MOST respect for students and totally understands what we are going through. I enjoyed having him in my favorite classes! Exams are FAIR, not too easy.
Dr. K is the best he really cares about his students and obviously loves what he does. The class can be complicated sometimes, but he really tries his best to make sure you understand everything. Pay attention and try during lecture and you'll be fine.
He is a very detailed professor, he goes in depth with each concept to make sure we understand. I like how he weighs the grades where our daily activites get the most credit because the activities are fairly easy and it gives us an opportunity to use reasources. Overall fun and great teacher that cares about his students.
He is one of the best professors that I have had at IU. He is amazing! He really cares about his students and what is going on in their lives. He is extremely accessible outside of class if you need help or have any questions. He is a great lecturer and is excellent at explaining concepts.
He's a real gem as long as you're serious about the course. He's very understanding so long you don't cheat your way out. His lectures are amazing and fun. He's always looking out for his students because he genuinely cares. I absolutely loved the course and he deserves the credit for that.
Took COLL-C 105 with Prof. Kirkpatrick in Fall 2020. Amazing professor that makes long lectures fun to sit through. Lectures off of a clear and easy to follow powerpoint. Short weekly readings. Not much homework. Go to class, listen, take notes and you won't have a hard time getting an A.
Absolutely amazing professor. Had him online due to COVID but was completely understanding and empathetic to all of us. He made lectures interesting and broke things down quite well. He made sure everyone understood the material before moving on. Tests and quizzes were fair. As long as you understand the lecture content, the class is an easy A/B.
Dr. K is one of the best professors at IU and honestly one of the best in the country, both from a meteorological and human standpoint. Lectures are fun and interesting and he teaches in a way that really explains the topic so you can use it in real life which does not happen often. Best teacher/professor I've ever had
Excellent teacher who you can reach in the middle of the night to ask questions, cares about the material, thoughtful & well put together lectures, with interesting material.
He teaches in a way that is so easy to understand. He also is very good with reviewing for tests and making sure you do the best you can. Best prof I have had at IU so far.
Dr. K was seriously the nicest professor I've had so far. Admist COVID 19 and online classes, he made his class fun and engaging. He is super understanding and will listen to any concerns you have no matter how small. I definitely want to take another class with him.
If you want an easy class, take "Weather and You". But be prepared to endure one of the most stretched lectures you'll ever have to sit through. Professor Kirkpatrick is a good guy, but the actual content takes 30 mins to go over and then the rest of class is spent doing the SAME examples and is very repetitive. 75% of the content is common sense.
Very good at his job. Makes sure everyone is engaged in the lecture, barely had to study for exams because I mastered the material in lectures
He is an amazing professor. He is very kind, funny, and engaging. The information was very practical and helpful for day to day life. I never skipped a lecture so I never had to study outside of class. Highly recommend you take this!
Dr. Kirkpatrick is a good professor. As long as you complete all the work and don't miss too much class you will be fine. But even if you do miss it, he holds office hours you can go to. The material is pretty complicated at times but if you study for the exams, you will be fine.
Dr. K teaches you the things that matter outside of the classroom. He also explains everything so clearly, although there are readings that you could do, even if you just go to class and pay attention (which is easy with him) you will be fine. He is also super accessible and helpful in office hours if something was not or if you miss a class.
He rocks. Very open to changing the his teaching approach to better suit the class. If you miss a quiz you can make it up, the day after exams you can earn some points back, and the "textbook" is free and super easy to understand (also written by him).
Dr. Kirkpatrick is so funny and tells great stories. He's always trying to make the material and lectures fun and interesting. Not too much homework but he does love using paper so be prepared to print things. Overall, a great class and professor!
I am in my 3rd class w. Dr. K (W in 1/3). The material is not easy at all, but it feels very rewarding to learn. His classes are tough, but he does his best to be available to help everyone. I respect him as a person and a professor so highly that I have not been tempted to cheat once in 3 courses. 2-4 h exam prep. Curves on each exam. All Cs so fa
Professor Kirkpatrick gives excellent lectures that are engaging, interesting, and helpful. It's not a crazy easy class, but if you go to lectures and do all the assignments, the material is quite simple to grasp. I really enjoyed his classes, and I highly suggest this class to anyone.
He started class with a statement that he thought of all of us as adults and would treat us as such, then proceeded to spend the rest of class playing a condescending micromanager. The course structure makes me want to stay, his attitude is telling me to drop.

Cody has a knack of teaching meteorology really well to a wide group of people. He was able to effectively communicate concepts in the class filled with engineers, mathematicians, physicists and meteorologists. His explanation of concepts are lucid and he leads the students from what the student knows to what the student needs to know.
Professor Kirkpatrick is seriously a great professor. I am currently taking him and Ive never gone out of my way to rate a professor but he is great. The class is fair and he makes class very interesting. Would totally recommend him.
This has been my only professor thus far that has actually taught me a lot. He is amazing and cares so much about students learning the material. He takes the notes with us instead of just reading off slides, and it is so helpful. An amazing person overall. He's the best
The style of teaching made the class very easy and actually interesting for a weather class.
Assignments are manageable and he works hard to shape the course content around the needs of his students. He's someone I could relate quite well to and he made the subject matter quite interesting! Highly recommend Dr. K as a professor.
He is the best and is always there to help me when I ask. Definitely would recommend his classes, I've learned a lot.
Please if you are considering taking him, do it! He is a very good teacher, and he gives the information off in an easy way. If you attend class, he notices this and you will get a lot back of what you put into the class. Sometimes, he does trick questions on quizzes but never to harshly damage the grade.
One of the best professors that I've ever had. He clearly conveyed all the concepts in a way that was very easy to understand. His lecture style is the main reason for this. He would write the notes along with us in the front of the class and walk us through the concepts step by step. I preferred this lecture style to a normal PowerPoint lecture.
Love this guy so much. His teaching methods are always on the money and get me where I need to be. He goes through problems/examples with rest of the class, working through it on screen & waiting for everyone to make sure nobody falls behind. Go to class, take some solid notes, listen to what he has to say, & you're golden. Can't recommend enough!
Truly one of the most kind and respectable professors at IU! He loves what he teaches and makes such an effort to get students interested and participate. There are weekly quizzes but he tells you what's on them and posts the notes from every class so attendance isn't mandatory. Content seems easy but can trick you sometimes on exams and quizzes.
He's awesome! Super funny, chill, and overall just a really good guy. He teaches every topic in a way that's easy to understand and makes each topic actually enjoyable. The workload is just one small assignment each week, so it's not bad at all. Show up to the lectures and you'll get a good grade! Only 3 tests throughout the entire semester.
This is the best class I've taken yet, he does the notes in real time which gives us the opportunity to stop and ask questions without feeling rushed. Going to class is very important to pass and if you just pay attention the material is not difficult. He is also hilarious and makes class enjoyable.
I loved Dr. Kirkpatrick! My favorite class and I'm a science person. He was always available for help and went through lectures slowly, the science was pretty easy and only 1 unit uses math. There are opportunities for extra credit and he really cares about his students. He's fun and makes the class feel smaller, even though it's a giant lecture.
One of the best! Made class so fun for students, even if you are not into science! He is always available to help out and is so genuine. The textbook is given to you in a PDF for free, so don't worry about buying one (you don't use it that much anyway). Very few exams also, I would take another class with Dr. Kirkpatrick in a heartbeat!
he is so funny and the best professor ever
Professor Kirkpatrick is the best professor I have had in my first semester. I am not a "science person" but he makes all the content very easy to understand and is extremely approachable and friendly. He wants everyone to succeed and will help you if you ask. Just show up, engage, and you will not regret taking him.
My fav class. Make sure to GO TO CLASS. It's impossible to learn if you don't go. You'll find that if he constantly repeats something in the lecture that it's on the test. BTW there isn't a crazy amount of math on each test, so try to really understand the content because the questions can be worded differently then the lectures.
As long as you go to class and take notes you should be fine. The professor does a fantastic job at teaching, and makes sure that the class gets key concepts. If the class is struggling with something he makes sure the class understands. Only homework is a weekly assignment that is usually 5-8 questions long. If you need a gen ed, take this class.
Professor Kirkpatrick has a very fair and understandable grading scale. Attendance is optional, but you will be behind if you miss too many of his classes. There are quizzes every week or so that are pretty straightforward, and they keep you engaged in the course. However, if you are looking for easy gen ed, this is not your class.
One of the best professors I've had at IU. Super funny and smart. Easy to talk to. The textbook is free. However, the assignments get monotonous and there is 0 extra credit. The lowest score is dropped tho, and tests barely affect your grade. Interesting class but it is difficult. I wouldn't recommend taking it if you want an easy Gened.
If you are into weather and want to dive into it early C105 is a great course. Professor Kirkpatrick is by far the best professor I have had at IU and I am currently taking a harder level course by him now. SHOW UP TO CLASS! There are extra credit opportunities to redeem yourself on past quizzes and future exams. If you don't show up you're lost
Take this course. My major has nothing to do with science, but he had me seriously considering whether it should. The lectures are so engaging and informative. Dr. Kirkpatrick is absolutely hilarious and intelligent and is definitely my favorite professor at IU.
Literally the best. If you think otherwise, you are probably the problem.
Absolute legend. Incredible guy. Take his course. GOAT.
Prof. Kirkpatrick is awesome. Please take this course if you're deciding on it, you won't regret it (and it's quite easy).
Highly recommend this professor and E-144. Dr. K is awesome, funny, and knowledgable. He makes the class really fun and engaging and you will learn a lot if you go to class consistently. I'm in Kelley and this the class I was the most excited to go to. Even if you aren't a weather nerd like me, I think you would find this class fun and interesting.
Best teacher and very funny. Class was actually enjoyable.
Professor K was a very fun instructor and made learning very engaging. 10/10 would recommend.
I had him to EASE144 and overall it was a very good informative class but he made it fun. I would have him as a professor again, even though he does give three exams and a quiz every week.
