This lady was scary. I dropped her class after a week because I couldn't take her. She's loud and her pacing makes me nervous. She yells for no reason and is very opinionated

yeah i registered to take her history 151 and then she came into my work and i said i was in her class and she said "oh your going to fail" so i dropped it. she is totally nuts! very rude to everyone. wasnt she placed on probation for failing alot of students??? im sure if she saw this shed laugh!!

The biggest ****!!! She sucks so bad! She is really hard and grades really mean. If you don't have her exact words you are lucky if you get a C. She always kicks people out of class. I would not take this class with her. ****!!!

I was assigned to this teacher without a choice, bc the previous teacher was Christa, and then she completed sucide. Hyman is a very unapprochable person, makes a person feel insecure about themselves, favors feminists, DON'T take her. Unclear, & hard grader, even if you do everything that she asks.

This will be part one of many. I loved the information, so informative and from a different side of history that you never get to reach. Hyman knows her stuff since she has written about it in countless articles and books. The only problem with her is that if you are not a feminist, liberal, woman or just a woman who is over 40 and openminded.

This lady is an idiot. I love history but she is absurd. She is not very clear when she speaks, she does not know much about European history, and frankly is not very nice. She also thinks that her class is the only one that you are taking. There is homework every night in some very strange history books. Try to avoid taking her.

I've never felt so degraded in all my life! She makes statements like "You're pathetic", "You cannot be blamed for you're own ignorance", and "Mommy and Daddy are paying for your tuition." These statements were not to just me, but to the entire class. She also will kick people out of class (or entire class) if they cannot answer her ?s. Avoid her!!

She is one of the most irrational teachers I have ever come across. She demoralizes all students in the class, never before Hyman have I been afraid to attend class for fear of being humiliated.

Very rude teacher. Calls people out and embarrasses people. She will stop lecturing and call you out if you yawn in class. She expects you to look up every word that you do not know in the dictionary. If you dont know what a word means then she will have a random quiz on the word meaning. This class is mainly writing papers Avoid at all costs!

Don't take her. Class requires tons of reading and theres always something you don't know that she expects you too. A random word in the reading could be on a quiz. I don't know if she actually wants you to be successful either. Were all just stupid college students and if you don't know as much as her, (a history professor) your not doing enough.

Impossible to get an A in the class. I felt like it was impossible to get an A on a paper. She is an insanely hard grader and has pop quizzes that you will fail if you don't ask questions or if the class is quiet. She embarrasses students if you answer her questions wrong. There are no tests so there was no reason to listen to her in class. AVOID!!

This class will be by far your worst class that you have ever taken at WSU. It made me hate my first fall semester because of the amount of work she had us do. She expects so much out of you and will embarrass you in front of everyone if you answer the question wrong or not paying attention. I would avoid at all costs; not worth it in the long run.

Was looking for an easy class to start my freshman year of college after serving 6 years in the military. The course itself is simple. After doing 6 years Army I know when I am being disrespected. This professor doesn't treat her students with respect but demands it from you. She has double standards and was 12 minutes the first day of class.

Professor Hyman is literally one of the worst professors I have ever had. You have about a paper due at every single class period (MWF). She is very tough and very rude. Not compassionate or nice to students. She calls you out and if you answer the question in your opinion it is wrong. It has to be in her opinion and to her standard.

Honestly this class made me doubt my major. The class itself wasn't hard but her expectations from freshman are way to high. I do agree at times she can be rude and incredibly intimidating. One on one she's a great person. In class she's a different story. She doesn't like her students opinion's. I won't be taking a class instructed by her again.

Professor Hyman requests the utmost respect, but disrespects students every class period. You will need to attend three on campus events, she DOES NOT care if you have other obligations. What Hyman says, goes. Prepare to be cut off mid sentence when asked to answer a question. Do not take Hyman under any circumstance. You will not learn anything.

Professor Hyman is a very tough grader. Not a good class to take at all. You will have homework to do everyday of class and many papers to write based on out of class activities. You must have the reading prepared always because she will target you in class and continue to target you if you answer her question wrong. Not very understanding at all.

The first thing you must know about that class is that it is more of an English class than an American History class. Normally of love history classes but this is the exception. She will target you in class if you answer a given question wrong. If you come to class without the study questions answered, she will lecture the whole class!

By far the worst professor you could ever have. She uses her big vocabulary to ridicule students if they answer a question or ask one in a way she doesn't agree with. Very liberal, which gets annoying fast. Stay away from Collette Hyman. My friend tried to get me to drop the first day, took my friend and half of a semester to realize he was right.

This was by far the hardest class I have ever had. You have weekly writing papers and other major papers. She is a very VERY tough grader and will take many points off if you have more than one error per page. Very frustrating feeling like you'll never do well, many tears were shed. I would rather take a test than write papers weekly. Do NOT take!!

Dr. Hyman is not worth your while. Don't get me wrong, she is a very smart individual but she consistently puts her students down and expects a lot from you. I'd have to agree with others when I say that I will NEVER take any of Professor Hyman's classes nor would I recommend her to anyone ever again. She is very rude to her students openly. I at one point in the semester was struggling mentally and went to her office to talk to her, and she proceeded to yell at me and demean me. Should be fired.

She is just mean. If you don't agree with her opinion you won't pass. You have to do a lot of reading, and write a paper each week. She will yell at you if you don't know the answer. Also, if you are not paying attention, or did not do the homework you will probably be kicked out of class. She doesn't care if you pass the course.

her course is more like a Q and A about the textbook, than an actual lecture. and she assigns study questions that do not relate to the readings. she put all the wrong books on the site and the wrong schedule, so we spent $120 on textbooks not required for the class. also she is incredibly rude to her students and will gladly point out your flaws.

No tests, grade is solely based on papers you write about the readings. There is a lot of reading assigned, almost a new assignment every class. Each textbook was used for maybe a week each. Will not hesitate to single you out if you don't get the correct answer. Stay away if possible.

She does a great job of answering her way around questions without actually answering. She is smart in what she teaches that is obvious (I am not taking anything away from her PHD.) But she talks down to students for no reason. If you happen to answer a question in class that is slightly off she will cut you off and belittle you. SHES A BLAST! not.

If you don't participate she will get mad. If you say something that is incorrect she will let you know you are wrong.

She seems to know what she is talking about but doesn't know the right way to teach others. Her grading criteria is unclear, and she does not do well at answering questions. Class discussion is a huge part of your grade, but if you answer wrong or with a different opinion than her she will get mad and belittle you invfront of the entire class.

Dr. Hyman does not know her boundaries and treats her students like little puppets she can play with. Would not recommend her class.

You're better off changing your major, literally. Like everyone said before me, she is blatantly rude and treats you like an idiot for not understanding the most complex of subjects and if you ask for help or guidance, you get shut down instantly for even asking. She is verbally abusive and has caused me to have multiple panic attacks. Don't do it.

I cant believe WSU tolerates a teacher like this, you would think after awhile they would do something. Colette Hyman will make your life as hard as she possibly can. She is of little help to students and makes assignments that are very vague in instructions, she expects you to write papers that of Harvard level quality in an intro level class.

The worst professor that I've ever had, history is something that I enjoy learning but she made me hate the class because of the way she degraded her students. The class is based solely on your writing skills but when asking for help on papers in her office hours, she will yell at you and won't offer much assistance.

She words her questions very oddly and if you do not respond in the way she wants she will belittle you in front of class. She openly yells at and degrades students who cant answer her questions. She grades on a few papers with her own grading system. She will fail you and not tell you why.

NEVER TAKE HER. I am an all around good student, I have a 4.0 and do pretty well in school. As a future teacher I have no respect for how she treats her students and how she makes them feel. Shes a very opinionated professor who pushes her agenda for the entirety of the semester. She takes every chance to call out students and make them feel inferior. She gave terrible feedback on papers and expects perfection in a 100 level class. She hates athletes. I am and athlete and she picks on me constantly and told one of my teammates to drop.

Do not take her. At first I read all of these ratings and thought Oh, college kids are just whining nope. Theyre right on the money with Hyman. She is terrible. She harasses students for trying to come up with their own answers to her absurd questions (3-4 at a time) when she asks them. DO NOT TAKE HER.

She is by far the worst professor I have had yet. She gives you a book for all the homework to go and read. Then you come to class and have discussions. She will randomly call on you and discourage you all she can. Her essays she gives out are very political and I had to go against my beliefs to fulfill hers. DO NOT TAKE!

She's very intelligent and knowledgeable in her field. I'm not surprised that only three or four people show up to class daily because nobody wants to deal with her. The class itself isn't overly difficult but she makes it difficult by asking questions in a confusing way and going out of her way to berate students for things they could learn from.

She is an unbelievably mean professor. I dropped after one class - I hadn't done the first assignment cause I was out with covid and figured I would show up to learn in class. (she knew I was out with covid). she belittled me and yelled at me in front of the class then took me to her office and yelled at me. NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR - PTSD

People like to judge knowledgeable women harshly in academia, so I ignored these reviews. However, she is a great example of a professor that inspires you to become the exact opposite of her as a teacher. She publicly humiliates students when they misunderstand her vague questions. There is a reason her courses are always empty. Do not take.

I'm 99% sure most if not all of her positive reviews are just her anonymously boosting her abysmal ratings. All she has taught her students is what not to be. Rude, confrontational, vague yet asks for perfection, and unhelpful. She has retired from WSU and I honestly hope for the sakes of future history student, she stays retired.
