He mostly reads off the slides so you can afford to skip a class here or there. His exams are tough though, you NEED to read the book to keep up because his lectures will NOT be enough. Most people will fail his exams, since the exams are tricky and not always exactly related to the test. He does have review sessions which are somewhat helpful.
Overall he is a good professor. You can manage to skip lectures once in awhile. For exams READ the textbook and powerpoints slides. Make sure you understand the main concepts. Also, he gives a review quiz (not for a grade) that contain some of the EXACT exam questions as the test! So memorize those answers! Overall easy as long as you read!
His lectures are pretty much reading off the slides, but he'll add in a few things that will make the material stick a little more. Be sure to read your book and understand the concepts because his tests are more critial thinking. He curves at the end and based on your class the curve can resurrect you from the dead. His "quizzes" aren't quizzes.

Take his class if you don't mind reading. He basically just reads off the slides in class so you must read the textbook, quizzes are not actually quizzes but reviews for the exam - not graded. Nice guy, just boring subject. Curves at the end so it helps
English accent is always an A+, pretty cool & funny, the lectures are awesome. But you need to study before the test so actually go to lecture & learn in order to pass, he gives a prac quiz of questions but only like 2-5 are on the actual test, 5 tests in total the last being the final its 100 ques's so be prepared.
He is nice with a great accent! However, tests are more critical thinking and you have to really know the material to apply the concepts on the tests. Most of my class would fail the tests. Tried different study methods and didn't work. You definitely have to read the book and study a lot. If you're not good at biology don't take this professor.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Curves so much cause everyone fails. At the end you'll end up with a C because he curves but if you need an A DO NOT take him.
This professor did disappoint. Tests are difficult and definitely have to read the book. His lectures are just him reading off the PowerPoints and does have a tendency to get off topic. Would highly recommend other biology professors if interested in getting an A in the class.
I don't recommend taking his class at all. All he does is read off of powerpoint slides and his exams are extremely difficult. He curves because hardly anyone would pass his exams. Even with the curve it's hard to get a decent grade. You MUST read the textbook if you want to pass. First class I've ever gotten a C in. Don't do it.
I strongly advise anyone who needs to get an A in this class, to really consider switching professors. If all you want to do is pass, as long as you study, you most likely will. An average of a 75 or higher gets you an A. This is the hardest class I have taken, had to work extremely hard for my A. READ THE BOOK or you will NOT do good at all.
Dr. Colin is a great professor. The only problem is that his exams are really tough so if you miss class or study you will fail. I got to say I worked really hard and still got a B but I know I could've put extra effort to get an A. It's a good way to learn to study if you're a freshman.
Be ready to read and teach yourself the content. Tests are tough, lectures are long and his voice is very monotone also he reads straight out of the book. Your final is 100 questions so be prepared. This whole course is just based on exams so studying is essential. Read the chapters before coming to class, it will be helpful. He curves at the end.
During lectures he reads off the power point word for word, so if you miss lecture its not a huge deal. He gives no extra credit, no make ups, just simply one curve at the end. Heads up, the exams are extremely difficult, so DO NOT rely on the curve. The exams are based off the lecture slides and book. You may have research info when studying.
Nice person but horrible professor. The lectures are mandatory and he basically reads off slides he uses every year. The exams make up 100% of your grade and basically everyone fails. He curves the grade towards the end so everyone failing usually ends with an average C. The book is also expensive (150+) but required.
Reads off of Power points. Lectures are long. Hard to pay attention to. Only four tests and the Final.
Dr. Bill is a really great professor. He has a quirky sense of humor, but knows the material really well, since her rarely even looks at his slides. I wish he taught some upper level courses. I think he would be great at teaching more than just basic biology. I learned a lot in his class. Best professor ever!
I have 36 credit hours 3.88 GPA and this class has been the toughest so far; also my first C. He reads powerpoint slides word-for-word and easily confuses the class. Gives 20 Q practice tests before each 50 Q exam but only 2-3 Q's go on the real test. You need to read/teach yourself in order to get a C. Made me really hate Biology; changed major.
This was definitely the hardest class I've taken, he goes simply by powerpoints and they're usually very tedious, he gives reviews which help somewhat but none of it ends up on any of the exams. There's only 4 exams and a final so your grade is made up of only those assignments, so get ready to read your textbook since he is no help whatsoever

Had class at 8am and he starts right on time. You definitely have to study for this class. 4 exams and a final, all are multiple choice. They are HARD. The highest I got on one of them was an 84. READ!!!! Tests are based mainly on reading the book. I recommend a study group. 75+ is an A in the class but DONT rely on the curve. Good luck!
Had to drop this class because it was so hard! His lectures are boring, doesnt even make his own, everything is out of the book. I basically had to teach myself the subject before I dropped. If you want an A or a B in this class itll be really hard to achieve. Worst professor Ive had at UTEP.
This was one of the worst professors I've had since being at UTEP. He only reads from the slides and every single lecture is beyond boring. He doesn't interact or engage with the students. There's no homework, quizzes, or extra credit. You just have 4 exams and the final with your lower grade being dropped. However, the exams are hard. Good luck!

If you take this class with professor Bill you have to study a lot. He gives zero extra credit and your only graded on 4 exams which are 50 questions and a final that is 100 questions. He gives out study guides which have nothing on the exam. If you can try taking the class with another professor.
Most difficult professor Ive had , had to drop his class because of how difficult this course was.
I had to drop this course Microbiology 2340. This professor is too hard extremelly hard. Do not take any of his courses you will regret it I promoisse you you will. He is the worst thing that happened to me at school. Do not take any of his courses you have to take 8 tests plus his final and he never finish on time his slides.

He is a great instructor, but do not expect to pass his class just by showing up and studying once the night before a test. He provides his slides on blackboard, but you really REALLY should read ahead before attending lecture. He's also sometimes really monotone and his accent on top of that makes it hard to follow and stay awake sometimes.
This class is really lecture based so if you can't sit and focus for the entire class do not take him. There is NO homework! Your grade depends on exams only and there is NO EXTRA CREDIT. He has a cool accent though.
I took this class as one of my needed basics for my Computer Science degree and regret it mainly because I did not realize the amount of work needed for this Intro class. If you hope to past the exams(exam only class) you really have to know your stuff and put in a lot of extra studying in hopes to do so.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND. You are graded on 4 tests the entire semester, and 1 final at the end of the semester. There are no extra cushion grades. You cannot rely on only his lectures to pass the class. You're going to have to spend weeks of your time studying the chapters he lectures on to pass the test. VERY stressful, not worth it in the long-run.
Attendance is mandatory to receive a 2% grade increase. Lectures are boring, no homework. Grades are 4 exams and the final, but he does drop the lowest exam. You must read the textbook outside of class to get a good grade. If you don't study, then you will fail. Gives reviews for the exams that help.

I had this professor when transitioning to online during COVID-19. It was a train wreck, did not do anything to help the students, opted out of the pass/fail option. If it were not for this class I would have gotten a 4.0 for this semester. Take Dr. Sun instead.
Dont rely on the powerpoints as the only thing to study. Dont be lazy! Read the textbook. Study 2 weeks ahead. Dont go into this class with a high school mentality of studying last minute. Apply yourself. It wont be easy but it prepares you for your future classes.
Doesnt give extra credit, doesnt respond back to email until way later and is rude about it,gets annoyed with students asking questions, hes not understanding, doesnt post due dates on blackboard, uses lockdown browser with webcam, worst teacher, basically just teaching yourself, find yourself another teacher !!!
The absolute worst professor I have ever had. I basically had to teach myself. I highly suggest you try another professor. If none are available wait till the following semester to take it with another professor. If you take this class you better be ready to read every day and to teach yourself the subject. I would rate him a Zero if I could.
Rude professor. When emailing he is very demeaning and non-sympathetic. Honestly the class was tough, but it wouldnt be if he was a bit more caring. Dont really know why he even has this job. He really must not like people. The way he treats his students. The class as a whole seemed like a burden to him. 0/10

He doesn't offer extra credit since he doesn't believe in it. There's no study guides whatsoever if thats what you're looking for. You honestly teach yourself this whole course. Save $$$
Took microbiology with him during COVID times so it was online. Refused to do actual lectures and only did mini review videos. A lot of 5-question quizzes and exams per chapter. Non-cumulative final exam. You will definitely need to buy and READ the book to understand and be prepared. If you're a really lazy student, this is not your class, period.
Exams had highly specific questions for a general microbiology class. Video lectures would focus on things that werent on exams. Unless you had a photographic memory, entire chapter memorization was a must. Reading is a must! I passed this class but pretty much taught myself everything.
I would only recommend this class to students who can teach themselves because Dr. Bill does not baby his students at all. He gave great lecture videos and provided the powerpoints (some questions on exams came from them). Exams are over each chapter, so yes you will need to read and study the chapters. You will have to work for your grade.
Took this class online during pandemic. Terrible professor expects students to basically memorize the entire textbook in order to pass exams. This is not a "learning" class, it's memorization. Posts lecture videos, but not very helpful. Uses lockdown browser for the 4 exams. There's a series of 5 question quizzes per section and discussion boards.
If you're expecting to sit and not do anything, DO NOT take Dr. Bill. He expects his students to know how to self-teach; he does not believe in extra credit or rounding grades. If you want an A, you MUST READ and have a photographic memory of every little detail. Rude, selfish, doesn't care 1 cent about you, just cares about his paycheck.

Not gonna lie, the hardest class I've ever had. He uploads videos that summary the chapters. If you only rely on the videos you will fail. Memorize the book. Have a study group, read the book 2 times, and take GOOD notes, do well on quizzes and discussions. If you get 85 or above you'll get an A. Good luck:) You can do it!
A great guy but his classes are based off the lectures. There are 4 exams plus the final exam, so most of your grade will be based off the exam grades, exams are closed book, cameras on, with lockdown browser. IF you aren't the best at studying, try your best to make a group study because this class is VERY difficult
He basically just reads the PowerPoints. Lectures are heavy and kind of hard to digest if you don't understand so some helpful tips are: 1. DO NOT RELY ON THE POWERPOINTS!!! 2. READ the book. 4. Re-read his PowerPoints. 5. Watch videos. 6. Study WITH ADVANCE. 7. Get some caffeine in your system before class so you pay attention. 8. Use Quizlet!
Worst Professor I have ever had at UTEP. There are 7 exams ( drops lowest) but they are difficult and most of the time probably will only get half right. Lots of notes, reading, and studying in order to pass. Definitely would not recommend taking him or this class at all. Everyone in class drops or barely passes.
This class was a big shock to me at first. Read one chapter each week. Attend the lectures and use them as review for the chapter you just read. Watch videos online for help. Lockdown browser 5 exams (one is dropped). HE CAN TELL IF YOU DONT TAKE THEM IN THE CLASSROOM. You will need to know a lot of small details. Don't slack off.
One of the most challenging classes I've ever taken. So much source material that you have to learn in a short time, and his tests are impossible to pass unless you fully understand the subject matter. I almost dropped the class but decided to power through. if you enjoy pain then go for it!

I should've listened to all the warnings and not taken this prof. I studied for 2 weeks for the 1st exam and still failed. He doesn't give outlines, extra credit, etc so good luck trying to figure out what u need to focus on since the exam was on 4 chapters. I dropped as soon as I could, but I'm still kind of traumatized.
very, very, boring lectures. Exams make up majority of overall grade and are difficult. Questions on the exam are from the smallest details of the textbook, so you cannot skim-over chapters. Exams are taken in class on lockdown browser. Will give you a zero if exam is taken outside of class. Strongly recommend NOT taking this class with him.
Dr.Bill is a tough professor. There are three assignments each week with exams. Everything on the exams is over the powerpoints. YOU HAVE TO STUDY! He does not make exams based off of things we do not go over. I would recommend coming to every lecture because they're extremely helpful. It is not impossible to be successful. STUDY!
His lectures are a bit boring at times but you do need to read the book and STUDY!!! many people say he is a horrible professor but he teaches us in the way he wants us to learn and earn our grades. If you do not study you will not pass!! attend lectures, all of them. If you need any help he is more than willing to help you.
Lectures were extremely boring. Classic Textbook-Lecture professor. Has no consideration for anything other than his lame class, acts as if your whole life should revolve around his class. One quiz and one discussion board every week, followed by very difficult exams after every chapter. Would not recommend taking this course with him AT ALL.
in class pop quizzes that are timed, powerpoint teaching style, can't really hear him in class, won't postpone his exams even if its his fault he got behind, extremely tough grader on discussions that are worth like 10% of ur grade so if that's worrisome imagine exams. only took him cuz all the other classes were filled and I need the credit.
Professor collin is great, I feel the rigor of the course added to how much I loved it. There are lots of papers and, every point counts. The exams are DIFFICULT, so making sure to ace the axillary assignments is key here. Also concept heavy and exams based on PowerPoint. The class is graded on a curve 80-100 is an A. I recommend
Lectures were somewhat thorough but he would rush through them, was more concerned with sticking on schedule than teaching us well. Exams are straightforward but take up 60% of your grade, must read the book. Has discussion boards and "packback" (basically another form of discussion board behind a paywall). Overall would not recommend.
Dr. Bill was an interesting professor. His lectures are based off some PowerPoints, and he does give out Pop quizzes, but they are not hard if you pay attention to the lecture. Homework assignments are not hard either (Pack back and discussion assignments). Exams are not that hard, just study what he goes over in class.
He only reads off Powerpoint's and usually rushes to finish disregarding whether we are learning. If you are not seating close to him, you most likely won't hear or understand what he is saying. It doesn't make a huge difference if you stay at home and go over the PowerPoints yourself.
Literally horrible. You have a discussion board every week, a PackBack assignment every week, and random iClickers. But you're overall grade is from 5 exams (he drops the lowest) and they are HARD. There's no extra credit, and he lectures so bad and just rushes through the PowerPoints.
The professor is generally good; if you have any questions, he will answer you clearly. The only thing that is hard about this class is the exams but he has easy grading criteria. For example, your grade will show as a B on your transcript if you have a C. Make sure to read the textbook and PowerPoints! But overall not a bad professor.
This class was very difficult, he really only reads off powerpoints and the exam questions always seemed way harder than what he explained. I think you could be successful in the course if you read the book alone, and the grading scale is also very helpful, nothing against Dr. Bill personally, micro is just difficult!
The lectures were mostly PowerPoint based, and he ONLY reads off the PowerPoint, his tests are extremely difficult, you have to read the PowerPoints, that are 63 slides each chapter, and read the book, even then the tests, are really hard. The homework is fairly simple and so are the quizzes, but your grade is basically based on the exams.
Grading scale based heavily on exams, which are 40 questions and difficult if you did not study so PLEASE STUDY. Lectures are PowerPoints from the book, but you are better off reading the book and studying quizlets. DOES NOT offer any extra credit. Packback and discussion boards due every week and you have an exam every other week.
THE worst professor. He only gives two 4-question quizzes in between every exam (the exams weighed HEAVILY on your grade) & left the rest of the learning to us/our own notes. Class complained abt the few quizzes we had to prepare for the exam/lack of exam review so he called us "lazy Americans" & refuse extra help till we took it to the dean.

This has been by far the worst professor I have ever taken at UTEP. I'm a nursing major and I do not expect an easy A but this class is so disappointing. Just reads PPs consisting of 150 slides per chapter and exams are extremely complicated. No help in or out of class and very rude when reaching him through email he needs to revaluate his Phd tbh.
He is really racist. A lot of students have reported him to the dean but they do not do anything about it. Its like he is untouchable. They really need to fire this man he is not a good professor and makes rude racist comments.

Gives 200+ slides to review in 2 weeks or less. Doesn't sound that bad if you weren't taking 3-4 other classes like everyone else is. Memorize the PowerPoints, and you should be okay. pay attention to the clicker, the answers are in his PowerPoint lectures. Use ctrl f to search for a keyword and find the answer. He does NOT respond to any emails.
I have taken this professor during my freshman year for another Bio course and thought he was a difficult professor. For this courses I wanted to give him a second chance but his way of teaching is the same. His powerpoints are insanely long and overwhelming. His homework assignments and surprise quizzes weren't bad but I don't recommend.
I took this class in my freshman year as an elective and it was a BIG mistake! His lectures are extremely long PowerPoint (115-130 slides each lecture). He doesn't help students improve, he's not a big fan of extra and study guides. In this class, I felt like I was teaching myself more than he was.
Don't take this professor, unless all you want to do is stress & study. Lectures are him reading off 100+ slides, which you will study ALL of them for the exams. No reviews, no extra credit, attendance is mandatory. He is unprofessional & has an overwhelming and boring class, since you end up teaching yourself most information anyways.
Do not take this class if you have a busy schedule. Bill reads off PowerPoint presentations with 100+ slides as a way of teaching. I always ended up having to teach myself outside of class, and at that, I was studying 300 slides for an exam at some point. I wouldn't recommend it if you have a busy schedule. No extra credit, Get ready to STUDY!
Honestly- i really enjoyed this class. It is not an “easy A” but with consistent effort it is totally attainable. Reading the book helps. I feel like the rigor of this course has prepared me for my harder nursing courses. Prepare to take this class seriously- especially if you're going into nursing.
Bad professor, he always rushes the lectures to squeeze them into class time, 150 slides per chapter on average, every exam is after two chapters so 300 slides to study, no study guide, no review day or anything, no extra credit, some questions are really specific, class quizzes okay, assignments are like discussions posts, grade is mostly exams
He is a really tough grader. He has chapter slides from 150 slides each, no extra credit, and no make-up. He has TAs,but students don't have access to study with them.He only uses the TAs to walk around during exams.I asked him what I could do or what to review, and he told me to just study better.If he is your final choice for a class, Good Luck..
There is no extra credit or reviews, all he uses is the slides. His exams are veryyy specific, so do not just study the general idea, go over the small details (examples in the slides). You can get an A in the class but must work 10x harder.

TAs are tough graders as well. 10/10 would not recommend.

(3.8 GPA here) and I WILL NEVER take this professor again, he is a good person, but he is NOT a good professor, a lot of people cheat on his classes becuause he lectures only from the PP. Most boring class I have ever taken, and please DO NOT TAKE HIM, you will struggle a lot he thinks we can all learn 140 slides from a PP in one week.
DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF, He wants you to remember 140 PP slides in one week and then take a test the following week about stuff that was not even on the 140 PP slides that you studied. I would never take him ever again.
He was just awful. His lectures are so boring and he has 100+ slides that contain stuff not even relevant to the textbooks. He's very confusing and wants you to remember absolutely EVERYTHING from the slides. He was also just very rude when I asked questions. DO NOT take him. Everyone I talk to who has taken his class says he was awful at teaching.
His lectures are okay, straight from the book. His tests are worth 60% of your grade, which seems like a lot, just don't fall behind on the extra assignments/quizzes. If you are in nursing/ planning for med school, I recommend him as courses will progress to become more difficult, which makes it easier to see how rigorous courses will look like.
He expects u to learn and comprehend 130 slides in two weeks and will talk to the last minute. 5 tests are worth 55% of your grade. His way of teaching is reading of just slides. Taking microbiology with this professor is a headache. He does nothing for the class, all he does is read straight off PowerPoints that are 80-90 slides each and expects you to know it all with no study guide. He laughs in students faces when they ask for extra credit/help. Only ok thing is his grading system. Save urself dont take him lol
He was taught, he expected you to learn two PPT in one and a half months, and those PPT are heavy, they are 125+ slides.
Be prepared to cry and immensely suffer in this course if yoy take Micro 2330! Take it elsewhere! Don't waste your time with this professor! Save you and your GPA!!! If you take Anatomy with this professor, it will be the biggest mistake you ever make at UTEP! He basically reads off his 100+ powerpoints and doesn't emphasize on the content! His exams are extremely difficult and hard! Every exam is in class on a Lockdown Browser with the webcam on! If you truly do care about your GPA so much, don't you take him!
