Real laid back kind of guy. He has fun with his subject, putting terms and concepts in a way that everyone can understand. He pretty much has his students read the text and then goes back over it in class. I wish the format was different (more interaction, perhaps) but I guess I learned a thing or two in the end. Recommend.

Colin's teaching style is lecturing, but there are plenty of chances for class discussions, and for you to challenge his opinion. I wasn't all that interested in sociology, but this intro to soc pulls you in and asks you to think about systems, oppression, and privileges that influence us everyday. I highly recommend taking SOC204 with Colin.

Great teacher, I had no interest in sociology prior to his class but learned a lot and would love to take more Soc classes. His class depends on the lectures mostly and reading the book. Missing classes can hurt because he does random participation point exercises. Overall an extremely fun and interesting class.

He's a very relaxed professor. Sometimes takes points off for not attending through class participation's. I really like his punk rock style and he looks young for his age. Which brings me to my point: he's very attractive. ;) (Hmmm...I wonder if he's taken...)

A surprising class! I learned so much about culture and how the views of others impact our society. The work was challenging and kept me engaged with the material in and out of class.This professor is extremely knowledgeable,and relevant without being redundant. Gilmore is a really fun teacher! Honestly one of the best that I've had yet! He made sociology really interesting and was really funny. I found myself lying awake in bed late nights not being able to sleep because I am thinking about his lecture, videos or words. He has changed my life forever. Colin is the most hilarious and engaging teacher I've ever met. He always says he's boring but he always has me laughing. He reminds me of Charlie day from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Looks a bit like him, and sounds EXACTLY like him. He's funny, knows the subject well, and the work is easy. Just attend the lectures. It's well worth it.

He is an odd individual, but a good professor. I took a class about social problems, which is a dry subject as it is. But he made is somewhat interesting at the best of his ability where it made it tolerable, that takes skill...

Class was interesting. Gilmore was hiliarious, but due to the widespread unfamiliarity with sociology, and what questions sociology can even answer, he has to water down the material A LOT. He still makes it interesting. Google stanford prison experiment, wealth distribution in the us, white privilege, and milgram, you have the whole class.

I really liked Gilmore's class. He was quite an interesting character. The class was short and sweet. Everything he talked about was on the test, but beware of the study guides. Even if you memorize all of the things on the study guide, it's only half of what's going to be on the test.

He did seem a little 'strange' at first, BUT by a few weeks in I looked forward to his class and felt inspired when I left. The essays are short and graded easily. You need to attend class to take notes so you can properly study for quizzesexams. You have to really carefully read the book, and review your notes, to be able to get an A on exams.

I took this class because I needed a social science elective, but this class honestly had me wanting to change my career to sociology. Out of all the classes I've taken, Gilmore had the best lectures. He was honest and blunt and I absolutely loved his class. He's not there to impress you he's there to teach you. This class would be a great choice for someone of any major. Just make sure you attend lecture as he grades for attendance, and read the textbook, as that's what the tests are based off of.
