Loved this class. It was a pleasure to show up every class.Felt I learned every step of the way. A very entertaining class also. Lots of visual and kept in step with the class book. Colin is a easy going person and makes you and everyone welcome in class. No questions unanswered. Colin is very helpful and available after class also.Take this class
Colin is a great instructor. He makes Sociology so interesting. He has his own style which is really unique and keep it interesting for us for four hours straight every week. (night class) I really appreciated him for teaching me his perspective on sociology.
An amazing teacher. Gilmore makes the class entertaining and thought provoking. He has a great sense of humor, and knows the subject well. I would highly recommend taking his class. He's awesome.
Very engaging
Gilmore is a great teacher. I looked forward to coming to his class. His lectures are hilarious and he makes everything really clear. I would take his class again.
Class was well organized and interesting. Colin was a really interesting character and always made class fun. A few papers and pretty easy tests. Recommended.
Recommend! It was my first sociology class and my first term ever, I got very lucky with some amazing instructors and Gilmore was not the least of them. Very fascinating character, in and of him self he would make a great sociological subject for study. Not only was his class exciting, engaging, and provoking, but it was also humorous! Take him!
This is my second sociology class with Gilmore and he's my favorite person probably ever. He's an amazing person and teacher. Highly recommend...
Gilmore is hands down the most amazing professor I've had at any school. He is the most hilarious guy and he's not hard on the eyes. He is such a wonderful person. Not gonna lie, I have a major crush.
Gilmore is hilarious! His class is incredibly informative and fun(though a little depressing). He is very interesting, doesn't grade harshly, treats you like a human being, and is kind of adorable. If you show up and pay attention, you will get a good grade. I would gladly take more of his classes.
Gilmore is hilarious but one of the most amazing teachers I have ever met. I feel lucky to have him as my instructor. I learned a lot of stuff while enjoyed the class. I never thought I would pay much attention on sociology because I have been living in such study everyday. But Gilmore's materials like a wake-up call. You surely have to rethink.
Gilmore is my favorite teacher this term with his humor and lectures that keep me awake late at night. Show up, take notes, laugh at jokes, write 4 papers, take some quizzes, take final, then receive A.
Smart? Think outside the box? TAKE THIS CLASS. Solid lectures. Open-ended discussions. Speak out and read book for A. His style is best for students who like to think, not be spoon-fed. Hella smart, enjoys talking to students outside class. Gilmore is an enigma. University-level prof at community college. Lucky to have him.
OMG his voice is something else ! He's a quiet hipster dude so I recommend you sit in the first 3 rows. He never assigned homework besides reading that I never did. I recommend you take notes from his power points, read the chapters, and actually pay attention during the lecture because that's on his midterm and final. We only did two essays.
Colin is the perfect instructor for a class in sociology. He made every class worth coming to and I always left feeling inspired. He is great at what he does and I now recommend him to everyone. If you like to learn he is the best. He is also one of the funniest teachers I have ever met. Take him.
I took his class on the recommendation of a friend and it was even better than I thought it would be. He is an amazing teacher. I actually looked forward to coming to class and he made learning fun for me. Gilmore is great. Take him.
Gilmore creates a great class atmosphere and made the class time fly by. He is a fair grader and seems to enjoy what he does. It was a good class and I would take him again if I could
Colin Gilmore is passionate about Sociology and it shows in his lectures. He invites open discussion in class and asks questions that make you really stop to think. I definitely plan to try to have another class with him because I truly enjoy learning from him!
You won't meet many instructors like Gilmore. He is an incredible speaker and manages tough topics easily. Hands down the best teacher I have ever had. Fair, respectful of students and engaging. You will be inspired.
I really enjoyed learning from Gilmore. The class was really interesting and I left each day feeling more interested in sociology. I would take another class from him just for fun. Great class with a great teacher.
Always EXCITED to attending class, wouldn't even miss it if I was sick! Lectures aren't even really lectures, he wants to share information with you as much as he looks forward to hearing everyone else's opinions. Very 50/50 collaborative environment. The films and readings are eye opening. You may leave this class feeling like changing the world!!
Read the book, do the homework exactly the way he tells you to, and show up. He does not care if you are a "card carrying racist" (his words) as long as you do what you are asked. I disagreed with 90% of what he said and I showed that (respectively) in my homework, but he just graded it based on if I followed the instructions.
His lectures are long, but he makes them interesting. His presentations don't have words, so note taking during lecture is essential. His study guides closely follow tests. He is fun and quirky, very passionate about sociology, but makes you work for an A. Awesome class and I would highly recommend him as a teacher.
Colin Gilmore is a great teacher and his class was very easy to follow. He is clear in his instructions and was a fair grader. I always enjoyed his lectures and humorous stories. Take him.
He is a great teacher, promoting his students to participate. I love a good teacher who can get a good conversation/debate going.
Colin is great. Keeps lectures interesting and relateable while moving through dense material. Explains concepts in depth upon request and is very open to feedback and questions. Patient, understanding, and funny. Friendly while still professional. High self-awareness and progressive thinking. Very good teacher overall.
So amazing! He is funny, charismatic, and passionate about what he does. If you are interested in Sociology AT ALL take his class as you won't regret it. Even his papers are fun to write! He gives clear instruction on what is expected and as long as you do your work, you can pass no problem.
I am so glad I took his class. Gilmore is an incredible teacher who inspires his students with humor and wit. I will miss coming to his class.
Colin is a really friendly and relatable teacher. He is really passionate about teaching and it shows. I felt like I learned so much from his class and be made the subject so interesting. I wish he taught more classes.
Mr Gilmore is amazing at teaching sociology, he is very organized and thorough when explaining the different topics. The lectures are never boring, and you always leave his class feeling satisfied. I wish I could take him for another class, and I would recommend Mr Gilmore to anyone who needs to take a sociology class.
Gilmore is one of those rare teachers who will actually make you want to change your major and become a sociologist. His class was always something I looked forward to and he made each class worth coming to. He is an amazing teacher and an all around good choice for anyone who needs to take sociology.
Gilmore (not Mr., not Colin) is an odd duck & I LOVE him for that. He only required us to do a few essays and a few exams, nothing hard, and no final. I slacked on reading and got a B, although the textbook was interesting. Participation and actual critical thinking is all he cares about. Recommended for anyone who wants engaging class lectures.
Gilmore was a lot of fun to learn from. You can tell that he really loves what he does and he treats students with respect. He inspired me to want to take more classes in sociology.
Normal amount of work. Got to read the textbook. Interesting lectures.
Gilmore is a honest and interesting professor! Reading the book is required because his lectures can go off topic or not cover what he puts on the test.
Gilmore is a great sociology teacher. He has an obvious passion for what he does and tries to include everyone in the class. His lectures include a lot of humor which I think helped me understand the material better. Highly recommended.
He is an interesting professor who is easy to follow and understand. He has a quiet voice so you should try to sit in the front. His class was something I looked forward to and I hope to take another with him. He's funny and down to earth, and a great teacher. Take him.
Gilmore is one of those rare teachers who will inspire you to think both inside and outside the classroom. He presents sociology in a way that is relatable and relevant to our current society. He made me want to change my major and become a sociologist.
I really liked his teaching style. He has a lot of in class activities and likes to get a discussion going. I plan on taking more classes with Gilmore. Great teacher!
Gilmore is great. He was really helpful in helping me understand sociology. He is a fair grader and provides clear instructions. His teaching kept things interesting. I loved the class.
This was my second sociology class and I thought it was very informative. Colin presented the material in a way that made it easy to grasp. He obviously knows his stuff and his enthusiasm for the subject was refreshing. If you are at all interested in sociology he is a great choice for an instructor.
I never looked forward to coming to a class until I took sociology with Colin. He makes everything so interesting it is impossible to not get excited about the subject. He is a funny and friendly teacher and took time to involve everyone in the class in activities and discussions. It was a great experience and I think everyone should take his class
LOVED THIS CLASS! Gilmore is a very open minded teacher and he will go out of his way to help students. I though his class was informative and amazingly eye opening. A very engaging teacher and an overall awesome person to learn from.
Gilmore is amazing! You really need to read and pay attention, but he gives you all the materials needed for success! Make sure to utilize his time when he does test review questions; he has a lot of good information to share! His papers were some of my favorite to write because I learned a lot and I felt like I could connect to the topic easily.
Gilmore is absolutely hilarious, but also an incredible educator. I often find that social science teachers are incredible, because they have a lot of perspective regarding how people function. The instructions on the two essays were just slightly unclear, but that was fixed after a quick email. Will be looking for another one of his classes.
Three paper that are based off readings and concepts in the book, fairly easy is you know your stuff. Three homework assignments which aren't time consuming nor hard. Two exams which are really easy as long as you read the chapters and pay attention in class, and the test are multiple choice. There is one group project.
Gilmore is amazing! While he has amazing lectures, he also structures the class so that the students can also be in control of the conversation. He made me interested in sociology and I look forward to taking future classes with him! Highly recommended whether into sociology or not.
The best experience I have had at PCC so far was taking Gilmore's sociology class. The discussions we had were great and Gilmore really made me want to learn more about the subjects. He is a great instructor and will go out of his way to help students learn.
Pretty laid back course. All you have to do is just do the reading (a bit of a drag since it's pretty dry), do the few homework assignments & you'll do fine. Also... come to class with a sense of humor since Colin has a sarcastic streak! He's a funny guy though.
Like others on here have said, this was the best experience I've had at PCC so far. I enjoyed coming to class and participating in the activities he had us do. He levels himself with the students and I think that allowed the class to connect pretty well. I highly recommend this class. We even had a pizza party and watched a movie one day, too.
Colin is a teacher that obviously puts his heart into what he does. He made me enjoy coming to school again and I learned so much from his class. If you need to take a sociology class or even if you just want to take something interesting he is a great choice for a teacher. He is seriously amazing.
Gilmore is the best teacher I have ever met. He knows his subject and knows how to connect with his students. His class has changed the way I view a lot of things, I learned so much. I will miss his class discussions.
Gilmore is a respectful instructor. The only issue with this class is we had to watch many films that related to the class. I understand that is useful tool, but I wanted to learn more a bout the book since we had our exams on the textbook. Also, I had a hard time understand some of his questions he wanna us to answer. Otherwise, I recomend him.
Great teacher who is honest and sincerely wants his students to succeed. He's the type that will get to the point and respects you/your time. Gives credit where credit is due and is just a respectable guy all around. Super responsive to emails and concerns.
This professor would do anything to make sure you pass.
I loved taking his class. He made me want to know more about the subject he was teaching and the class felt like a safe place to share. If you need to take sociology this professor is a great choice
I really enjoyed this class. I was rarely ever bored and almost every class we watched educational films that applied to the chapters we were reading. He also had activities for us to do. as long as you keep up with the readings and participate in class you'll do great.
Just one of my favorite teachers ever, i cannot summarize his classes but they show the true workings of sociology, and in turn, our society. he is a funny, caring, intelligent individual and will engage with everyone he can. the classes are well worth attendance, and the group activities are extremely insightful, everyone should take this class!
A great instructor who is really easy to relate to. His class is a great introduction to sociology and hes very helpful when it comes to learning the subject. An all around good person too.
His lectures were very hard to understand, and he won't let you know your grade in class until you email him. But he's very nice to students
Without a doubt the best teacher I have had at PCC. Hes easy to learn from and will show you all the information you need to know. The amount of work is manageable and It is easy to pass if you study and come to class.
Colin is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his teaching. His presentations are directly connected to the chapters of the textbook we read. His assignment and exam expectations were also explained well. I loved taking his class and will recommend him to anyone wanting an enjoyable sociology class. A+
Gilmore made me fall in love with this sociology. I can't recommend his class enough to anyone interested in learning about this subject. He is that good.
He is such an incredible teacher. I learned so much this term that I will take with me going forward with my education. His class will open your eyes to a lot of what is going on in the world today. You really need to take him.
He is a very interesting teacher and was easy to follow. It is easy to do well in his class if you keep up with the work and use his study guides. I am glad I took his class and you should too.
Gilmore's a really fun professor that uses clear explanations to make sure you understand the concepts he's teaching. As long as you read the book, as he stresses a lot, you'll do well on the papers he assigns. Pay attention in lectures too: he goes over basically everything in the book, but don't depend on lectures for studying or writing papers.
How I love this man. His class is super fun and interesting. If you are a wallflower like me, it might be tough because you are expected to participate in small activities. Note taking is kind tricky, he doesn't have a clear lecture outline, you kinda gotta just be independent and read and take additional notes. Do the work and you will be fine.
I loved taking this class with Mr. Gilmore. The material was really relevant to what is going on in the world right now and his assignments and expectations were really clear. I would take his class again, he's funny and I liked his zoom background.
He is a very organized instructor and the lessons were interesting. The assignments all connected back to what we were reading and his lectures. This class was not easy for me but the information really opened my eyes a lot. I Recommend his class
I am so glad I chose Professor Gilmores class. The material he presented really made me think about a lot of the things going on in the world today. He has a good sense of humor too
He is a fair grader and is really nice to every student. I would recommend his class because he is very respectful and was helpful. There are some written projects that were actually fun to write and I liked how he had us interact. His class confirmed my desire to get my social work degree
I loved taking sociology from Colin this summer. His assignments were fun and he was really clear about his expectations. He does a great job leading the class and his lessons will really stick with me.
Colin is a very caring teacher who has an obvious passion for sociology. His class requires some reading to really understand everything, but he made everything clear and easy to follow. He also has a good sense of humor which I really like in an instructor.
Gilmore is sharp, thoughtful and knowledgeable and clearly communicated the expectations of the class. Great at always trying to encourage class discussions even if people are shy like me. He's a kind and articulate instructor, plus he's freaking hilarious. I cant think of a reason not to take his class, soc will make you rethink a lot of things
Collin is very helpful in the way he teaches. At the start of term, he made it clear that sociologists look at the world in a very different way than most people. I have enjoyed his teaching style and the examples he uses in class. Not many people can hold my attention but he makes you want to learn more. Hes my favorite teacher this term.
I thought Mr. Gilmore knew the subject he was teaching very well. He is friendly, fair, open and respectful. His teaching style is unique and he made it more exciting than I thought it would be. Our class was meeting each week for lecture, but he was took time to really listen to students and their point of view too.
We had three short papers, two quizzes and weekly discussions. Gilmore is clear and easy to follow. You can tell that he really wants students to succeed in his class and keeps things interesting. He was available to answer my questions on assignments and he seemed to genuinely care. I cant recommend him enough, hes a great teacher.
I would highly recommend any student to take Mr. Gilmore's classes because he is an excellent teacher and I feel that he has a passion for what he is teaching. He is a down to earth person and has a way of interacting with his students as if he is their good old friend. His classes were always great.
He doesn't really lecture so I relied heavily on the textbook to learn. He briefly goes over the homework assigned during the last five minutes of class. The prompt seems clear, however, he expects very specific things to be discussed in the papers that are not emphasized in the rubic. His feedbacks are not helpful for my understanding. pickygrader
Colin is a professor with a wide-breadth of experience and holds a great deal of knowledge about the subject of sociology. They are supportive of student learning, and always ready for questions from the class. I am sure that this professor is absolutely amazing at in person teaching, their class was the best class I took this last year. Wonderful.
He is very strict with the grade, "overall good" means 80% score, "these are good posts," means 93.8% score. you can never get 100%! This class has 10 discussions with two respond and three papers and two exams. if you are not good at sociology, don't take this class, it's impossible for normal students to get an A.
Knows his things. Tests measure depth of understanding, not names and dates. His exams are of good quality, and are worded in ways that show a lot of thought went into their design. Instructions for discussion posts could be more clear. Gives a thoughtful response to each discussion post, often sharing suggestions for further reading. & he's funny
Mr. Gilmore was great for my first sociology class, very humorous. Which is what made the class fun. He was very very clear on what he wanted us to get out of the course and it made it easier to learn. He is very well versed in sociology and is a very cool and relatable person. I feel like I learned a lot from him.
He knows the content backwards and forwards and is completely hilarious. It is so obvious that he loves and lives what he is teaching. His zoom meetings always helped me understand the material better and he always responded when I needed help.
He's a pretty laid back instructor and says it like it is. The syllabus was clear on due dates and expectations. He made things easy to understand and helps you to understand the assigned reading with examples. It was a great class. A+
Before I took his class I was not a critical thinker but I learned so much from Colin. He is honest and informative in his teachings and will encourage you to keep thinking. The assignments were actually fun to complete and gave me some perspectives that I hadn't considered before on how humans function in this world. He is a good teacher.
Colin is a really engaged teacher. He was funny and warm, welcoming and nice. His lectures were always informative and really useful. His teaching style mixes humor and banter in between information and its amazingly helpful. His class is clearly well thought out. One of the best teachers I have had at PCC.
I really enjoyed the transparency of Colin's instruction. He is a wealth of valuable information about our society; right now. He was created in this life to teach people about Sociology and I'm very glad he was. Everything we did in class put into perspective the world we live in; Portland and beyond. He is passionate about the subject he teaches
Colin is a very thorough and compassionate. You can tell that he really enjoys and believes in the principles he teaches. He made it very clear on the first day what his expectations are and those held up throughout the entirety of the course. All the assignments were relevant and added to the understanding of the topics. Super cool guy to talk too
Colin is very good at his job. He conveys the topics & viewpoints in sociology by using analogies in a manner that allows anyone to grasp the material. He is great at saying the right things to make the class feel welcome & keeping the discussions moving. The class opened my eyes. He is a fair grader & expectations were clear. It was a great class.
Good professor, very humble. Zoom meetings were never a drag. Colin really lets the class discuss the topic(s). I only got a B by my own fault otherwise I would have gotten an A.
When I had life altering events happen, and I got behind in schoolwork, he was the only professor who took points off due to turning things in late. Lectures are easy to digest and feel more like a class conversation, and funny. 4 papers, 2 tests, and discussions weekly. Isn't an extremely hard grader, but pretty high expectations for the papers.
Colin is one of the wittiest educators employed at PCC. Hilarious and knowledgeable. The class was a joy and being an intro class, was laid out well for the beginner. He seems genuinely interested in his students and used his own way to explain a lot of the ideas that the text book. If you are looking for an engaging instructor he is great.
A really interesting and funny professor, he's also really understanding and gives us a 2 day grace period for papers. I enjoyed his class and his lectures were never boring, the quizzes can be intimidating but they're only 8% of your grade combined. Do all the readings and discussions and you'll be fine.
Colin was a great instructor. You can tell Colin is passionate about what he is teaching. My only drawback was that he took forever to grade things. At one point you have three papers due in a short time frame and rarely did you get the prior one back before the next one was due. There wasn't usually a lot of feedback but he was an easy grader
He really introduces you to sociology. Making sure that you understand the foundation of what this particular topic is about. He is very passionate and he gives you a whole different perspective about the world we live in. Things you wouldn't notice if it wasn't for his awesome lectures and homework that he provides. Make sure that you stay on it!
this class is what sold me on sociology. I plan to major in sociology because of this class. Colin is an amazing teacher and he is very laid back and easy going. he is well spoken and I picked up a few catchphrases from his lectures. I recommend this class a lot, I enjoyed it.
I would recommend Colin to anyone. He has an amazing way of getting his students to understand the material. I recommend him to anyone who had to endure teachers who made them feel unimportant. He's the complete opposite of that and honestly made me realize that not all teachers are bad. Colin proves how much he cares every class. He is amazing.
If Colin Gilmore changed nothing about his class I think it will continue to have success with students. I know all these various theories and I can walk away with a new lens for viewing the world. Please, do keep this up! People need the wake up call
Colin is engaging, informative and inquisitive, which keeps class interesting. He has a charm about him that is endearing. His teaching style is different than the norm, and it is fun to have an eccentric instructor. He came highly recommended to me from two different people, and I will continue that trend.
Colin was very down to earth teacher. His lectures were very easy to follow as well as the online textbook. He would make discussions fun and have everyone participate. If you want a stepping stone into sociology take this class!
He is hilarious and he is very passionate about sociology and helping his students understand these important subjects related to our world/communities. He has the basic quizzes and papers which are all very doable. You just need to put in some work and you'll be fine. He is awesome and I definitely recommend him you won't regret it.
Colin is an excellent Sociology professor. He is a hilarious guy that makes the class easy. Highly recommend it!
As English as my 2nd language, this was the easiest class ever! I wasn't sure if it was because of the subject sociology, if it was the homework which was NOT MUCH, or Professor Colin himself. The quizzes were all multiple choices. Gives real life examples. It was the easiest class. If I could take him again I would infinite times!
I disliked this class. The guy is impolite and gives poor comments. He also removes negative feedback about himself from this website. Do not fall for his good reviews here. That tells you a lot about him. I do not endorse him. At PCC, there are far superior professors.
Very Bad session I had. Stay away
Nope. This class was very confusing
I would find another professor for SOC 204
I was a little worried taking his class because of some negative reviews. He is not a bad teacher at all. He is honest and helps you out. I found online to be pretty straightforward and organized. He can seem as a tough grader but you just have to make sure you do what he asks for, he has a lot of experience, and doesn't tolerate plagiarism or B.S.
His lectures made absolutely no sense and he refused to help students outside of class. He will not answer any of your questions. He gave the rudest comments on my assignment feedback. I highly highly recommend that you take a different professor for sociology.
Worst teacher I ever had
So confused about the poor reviews - this is one of the best classes I've taken at PCC. You're encouraged to engage with the material on a personal level and graded mostly by effort. Colin is goated and hilarious. Very easy to get a hold of outside of class, clarified confusion about material clearly, and treats students with respect and kindness.
He is a very nice instructor. I appreciated the atmosphere Prof. Gilmore maintained despite the occasionally gloomy topics. It made for an enjoyable class. I think it would've been a hard class to follow had he not used his own way to explain a lot of the ideas that the text book provided. He gives extra time for papers too.
I took this class as a prerequisite but it was actually a very interesting course. I totally loved it. The tests were all online. Colin is clear and to the point. He takes time to make sure everyone understands the material. He was always available when I had questions and the assignments were interesting.
I thought the class was well organized and expectations were clear. As someone that struggles with ZOOM classes, I thought that Colin created a good atmosphere and encouraged everyone to participate. There were two papers and discussions, but not too much work compared to other classes.
Colin's class was my favorite class this term. I wasn't sure what to expect at first but he helped me every step of the way. He is honest and clear in his expectations and has a lot of great experience to share. I would take his class again.
Very average prof. Lectures got boring a lot of the time. Not a super hard grader but didn't always give the most detailed feedback. Overall, meh.
Colin is an amazing & charismatic teacher. He walks the walk as well as talks the talk. He expects students to engage and participate. Very available via OH, will wax philosophical or just explain an assignment. He lightens up content with dark humor while still honoring seriousness. He is an inspiring instructor, don't listen to the bad reviews.
I never failed to look forward to this class. Colin did an amazing job of creating an interactive learning opportunity. He made sure all his students were safe and were respectful to one another. He has lots of knowledge in his field and beyond. He draws from wide ranging sources making this class more relevant and interesting.
Everyone should take this class. His wry humor, humility, and eagerness to engage the students makes for a stimulating learning environment, Took time to listen and understand different points of view, would encourage students to give their perspective and input on class discussions.
Colin is by far one of my favorite professors. He is hilarious and still serious and gets to the point. I was reading some of the bad comments and was honestly shocked. Don't believe any of it, this class was hilarious and super informative.
Professor Colin's class was a highlight of my semester. His wry humor and eagerness to engage students made for a stimulating learning environment. I found Unstuck AI and the free textbook super helpful for study prep, along with going to office hours. Definitely worth taking.
Professor Gilmore is very kind and creates an engaging learning experience. Class was clearly organized. Grading criteria was clear and his feedback helped me see how I could improve my work. His lectures were funny and helped me better understand sociology. I wold recommend him to anyone who needs a sociology class
Easy class but professor make class unbearable, definitely fun professor if you're active. To pass this easy class, attendance matter. Work is easy, however his criteria dismisses your perspective or take on subject you select.
I liked his class a lot. The instructor always tried his best to help everyone, even when the material was hard. Hes very nice and patient and he really knows sociology. He gives good feedback and encouragement and I feel like I learned more because of his support. You can tell that he wants his students to succeed and learn from his teachings
Colin was awesome and obviously loves soc. His lectures are super engaging: a little morbid at times, but such is American society. Some group work in classes. Participation is graded. There's a few (3) papers and a discussion pretty much every week, so as far as course load goes, it's fairly standard. Super approachable and easy to talk to!
An amazing class with an amazing teacher!! I really enjoyed Colins class, he was entertaining, passionate, and understandable. Had to write 3 papers, weekly discussion posts and responses, and reading, but if you stay on top of it it's 100% manageable, and interesting! I recommend this class so much!!! I have such a strong interest in sociology now
This is by far my favorite class and the best professor I've had. Discussion posts and replies due weekly, two papers and a midterm. No final. Class is more of an open group discussion than a lecture. He cares about his students and responds quickly to emails. As long as you show up and do the work, you'll do great in this class.
I dropped this class, he was dismissive and seemed pretentious. Wasn't good at answering in class questions, and gave very confusing answers and prompts. It seemed like he gave some people a lot of time in open discussions but others he would cut off mid sentence, i wasn't a fan.
Lowkey one of the best professors I've had here. Class wasn't hard to keep up with and he always made sure ppl understood what was going on. Lots of examples and class was never boring. Never felt dumb asking questions either. Super helpful and nice
Honestly the only class I look forward to this term. Class discussions each week and a few papers but he is gracious with grading and gives good feedback. If you need a class that is easy to follow and still interesting take this one
I think Colin is very passionate about Sociology, which made the material interesting. I do think the class was a little more complicated than it needed to be for an introductory course. Term paper was 24% of your grade so you must put a solid effort into it. Not a super tough grader, but you must show real, no B.S. understanding of concepts.
This professor is very hard to work with. He will accuse you of an AI work and very picky even if you are doing an amazing job. He won't give feedback until the last minute and will want to comment unnecessary thing too. He doesn't give the correct grade and will just give feedback and live the grade to fill themselves up. Don't get in this class.
He is really tough.
He's very passionate about what he teaches, that's for sure. Classes mostly consist of him lecturing to a class and talking about how he dislikes phones every few minutes but he is absolutely knowledgeable, just a bit eccentric. Term paper is 22% of the grade. Just put a little bit of effort in and don't use generative ai and you'll do fine.
I've been in college for years and the way he explains lectures is awful. He talks, acts as pretentious as he appears to be. Given student perspectives on certain subjects, instead of being “oh that's an interesting take, but..” he would instead laugh at your face and rant about nonsense. This professor has a superiority complex. Don't take him.
I really liked Colin's management of the coursework and the class. I believe he is doing all he can to make sure students understand sociology to the best of their ability. He made sure everyone engaged and the classroom felt friendly. He also met with me to discuss my furthermore academic situations. I will always be grateful.
Easy work but this teacher lacks understanding for his students. I've never had a teacher actually dismiss his students while they're participating. The recent class, he started getting mad at the same people that were participating then called out those who didn't. I've never had a good time during his lecture. The work is great not the teacher.
Teacher was terrible, he was very pretentious and didn't explain lectures well. He expects participation but he critiques you if your answer isn't up to his standards. The work was good and not too much as well as the essays but other than that I wouldn't recommend the class.
If you like dry humor and a soft spoken man, he is your guy! His class is heavy on discussion posts tbh that's the reason why I got a B.
