This has been the worst University of Ottawa experience in my life. Keeps on telling us to pretend we're CSI agents yet the exam is designed to trick you. Many good students are doing bad in this class. Sign up to the French section if you can - otherwise stay out of uOttawa in the first place.

The professor had a helpful webiste. His midterms reflected the class material. His case-based approach was helpful in forcing students to keep up with the course work. But...his exam (short answer) did not reflect his midterms. Overall, I liked the course and would recommend genetics to any one interested in a straight-forward teaching approch

He just shouldn't be teaching genetics. Since he doesn't understand it well, he doesn't make much sense in class and the problems on tests are much more difficult than the ones done in class. I tried to give this guy a chance, and often found myself frustrated with him when I did. He is very full of himself, sometimes nice, but then other times an ass, I think he is a very emotional person, so when you talk to him in person, you can can get either side, also shouldn't be teaching and he talks WAY too much about his personal life!

The exams were based on stimulations and questions were mostly "think outside the box" but he makes sure you have all the knowledge you need in order to answer them. Of the assigned readings, you only really need to focus on the bold/italicized words in the textbook. This isnt stressed by him, but it saved me a LOT of time with the readings. Doing that, then just following the practice problems he does in class made this class much more manageable. Homework is graded by participation, which is pretty cool.

Great lecturer, engaging and interesting content. However, his exams do not reflect what he teaches in class and his marking schemes are VERY strict. If you take this course, attend the study groups and do as many practice problems as possible. You will have to take a lot of time outside of the class to learn/understand the material on your own.

Basically what everyone else is saying. He is nice and makes a bunch of dad jokes, his wooclap questions are very basic, you would walk out of class expecting yourself to be a geneticist after the lecture, just to be slapped, but a brutal midterm that has the most obscure marking scheme ever.
