He's great! He's really fun as a teacher and makes class interesting. He gears his statistics class toward people who aren't good at math, which is exactly what everyone needed. It's almost all theoretical and there are no formulas to memorize. Study off of the online quizzes and you will do very well on the tests (I got over 100 on most of mine)
He is a great guy, his lectures are witty and he has a sense of humor and gears the class towards those who are not great at math. Much of it is conceptual, so it is easy to over think things. The book is super easy to read and you should read to grasp the concepts. He is great to look at as well
Such a good professor! He is really nice and makes the class not so math-like. If you want a good grade you need to go to class and actually pay attention. You don't really need the book, but coursemate is really helpful!
His lectures were clear and he explained everything and offered further explanation if needed during and outside of class. He's cute, so that's a bonus, but attendance and lab is extra credit. His tests are easy if you know the material and understand the logical meanings. Take him if you struggle with math because he's super helpful!
I was terrified to take statistics, but this teacher made it some much easier and not as scary. He explained everything really well and he even said he knows people put this class off because they think it's hard. I took him in the summer, but we had worksheets everyday that helped you. He really sets you up to succeed. Awesome teacher!
Okay first and foremost I am not good at math. I took this class summer I and made an A. He makes you work for it though. You have to show up and have one of your 'dark room' moments. Pierson was such a helpful prof. Anyways, you'll need to study in advanced. He give ample opps. for extra credit. Don't be scared- it's not as bad as you think!!
Pierson is a cool teacher and he genuinely wants his students to succeed. I like how his class is set up for those who aren't strong in math. My only complaint is that he is unorganized when explaining things on the board, and it can make things seem more confusing than they actually are. Make friends in class bc you will need a helping hand.
If you have to take Stats this is the teacher you want. Stats will not be an easy A but this is the closest you will get to an easy math class. Pierson is the best math teacher I have had at Texas State.
I was terrified of this course because I hate math with a passion. Pierson takes a different approach to stats and teaches from a non-math point of view before using math. First time I've ever understood math! All formulas are given to you for exams and he always does an in class review. Super helpful and always willing to explain!
I took Pierson for Stats (3307) and greatly enjoyed myself. Show up to class and pay attention to the notes and you should be fine. Labs were there for extra help and he makes himself available most times of the day. One of my favorite professors and that's saying something because math isn't my favorite.
Pierson taught me for Applied Data Analysis (3318) and 3307. He's a great teacher who is very lively and passionate. He can go on tangents about HBO but he always has enough time for the full lecture. If he taught more classes, I would take him again. The textbook isn't absolutely necessary but looking back, I wish I'd have bought it. TAKE HIM!
Took Stat and Applied Data Analysis from him, such a great professor in my opinion. He's a younger professor so he's pretty relatable. He genuinely does not want his students to fail. He gives formulas for his tests, just show up to class and pay attention and take good notes.
Great class! He is really there to help you get the material down. Actually cares about the students.
Take this course if you are a NON-MATH major. He understands that you just need this course for credit, and only teaches you the necessary material. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get extra credit for each class you attend, so just go. He is very entertaining during lecture, and really wants you to succeed.
He does make the subject and work as easy as possible, but don't take him if you're non-trad. 100% Millennial.
Prof. Pierson has a bit of a reputation for being the "easy" prof, but don't let that fool you. His class is easy because he teaches what is necessary- however, if you don't go to class or study, you won't do well. Taking notes in his classes and attending them is crucial. Study, take notes, and do the online practice tests, and you'll do great!
I found this class extremely enjoyable and, dare I say it, easy. This is coming from someone who worked my butt off to get a C in Developmental Math so if you are concerned about the math portion of Stats, I would highly recommend this class. Read the book and do the problems at the end of the chapters before coming to class and it will be breeze!
Pierson made me actually enjoy math for once in my life. I remembered a lot of statistics from high school, so that helped me make an A, but the material itself isn't that tough. He likes to say this isn't a math class, but you will do some math. Tests focus on big ideas with some calculations. Show up, pay attention and take thorough notes!
Hands down, one of my teachers here at Texas State. Actually made me enjoy coming to class and hearing him speak. Such a nice and funny guy. I was very discouraged going into class but he teaches it a way you can really comprehend the material. SHOW UP TO CLASS!
I took Pierson for Data Analysis over the summer, and I feel as if I learned a lot. If you think he'll be an easy A, think again. He has really helpful lectures and doesn't hesitate to help if the student needs it, but you really need to put in the effort to make the grade. I would happily take him again, highly recommended.
I took Pierson for Summer 1, and I think this was the best choice I've made for a statistics class. He is really funny and makes statistics a fun concept and utilizes his knowledge for students to learn. There were 4 tests, he gives tons of extra credit and make sure to do them because it will definitely help your grade in the class.
Mr. P is in his lower 30's, which makes him relatable, to the mostly younger college crowds. He does a good job in teaching Stats, and honestly I don't know how you could fail this class, unless you don't try. Use the study guides the TA's make. Study Key terms and Formulas symbols. Prepare to nerd out about Game of Thrones. Overall, enjoyable.
I didn't think I would like taking stat, but Mr. P is amazing!! I took it during Summer 1 so we met every day, but he cancelled all Friday classes. We had time to complete our homework during class. He likes Game of Thrones and he rly likes stat. He'll make a real effort to try to get you to understand. Just 10/10 do recommend. I got a 100 in this.
Pierson is a pretty great professor. His classes are easy and making an A is pretty easy. It's difficult to fail unless you really try. He's young so it's easy to joke and have a conversation with him. But his lecture style is hard to follow sometimes. He'll just say and write what comes to him as he goes. But he's dorky and fairly attractive.
Professor Pierson is a great professor. Stats 3307 was pretty easy as long as you attend class and do the tests. There's an extra sheet at the end of every class which really helps a lot. Go to lab for extra credit. Tests are almost all multiple choice, which seems weird for a math class but just study the reviews on TRACS and you'll be fine.
GOODNESS did he make this class 100x times better! Besides the fact that he is a beautiful human being to look at, he made this class so easy with his personality and teaching skills. Only taught the subjects that we actually needed to know. To pass all you need to do is show up, do the test reviews, and look at his face! You won't regret it.
Absolutely remarkable instructor of statistics. Just take this class. You will not regret it.
I mean how can you not like him, super nice and very patient with all his students. He will help you as long as you ask dosen't even matter if he just went over he wants to make sure everyone gets what he is teaching. Also just the nicest guy ever seriously if he taught more classes I would take them all. He only teaches a couple classes but hes A1
I'm typically horrible when it comes to math however I did well in this class. I wish I could take more classes taught by Mr. P, he's great! The final was the hardest out of all tests so be prepared. Go to every class and you will succeed.
Great professor! I don't like math, but he made it enjoyable. I highly recommend.
Colin's great. I had him for SOCI 3307 and 3318. I took both in the summer, so they were pretty accelerated. He's very good at explaining things in his lectures, and if not then he's always willing to help out and answer questions. He has a dry sense of humor and loves Game of Thrones. He's young, hot and relatable. 10/10 would take again.
Great professor
Wasnt very interesting so made it hard to pay attention in class. An online textbook was required for the course, but wasnt necessary for passing the class, just super helpful. Also had another book assigned for homework that was required.
Colin is a super easy to relate to... maybe to a fault. He's not super easy, but he is fair. I wish he would go into further depth with his teachings instead of trying to let us know "it isn't really math," or that this class is oriented for "non-math majors," like, we get it. Moral of the story: don't take his class as a blow off.
He was very chill and relaxed. But when we had class discussions he was unable to fairly facilitate the topic. Only certain people would get the chance to talk and he would let people be rude to others, creating an environment where nobody wanted to participate.
Amazing professor. Understands what it is to be college student. lectures are not boring and easily one of my favorite classes I've taken here
Prof Pierson made his class easy. He cares what his students think about tests and outside material. His tests weren't bad. He made class easy and didn't put too much stress on his students which was helpful
I had CP for his first time teaching Introduction to Soci & I really enjoyed his class. He changed due dates on the syllabus quite a bit but usually it was in the students favor. There were extra credit opportunities, his lectures were interesting and he really cares about what he's teaching and wants his students to succeed. Super sweet guy!
He is awesome. 10/10 recommend
class was SO easy. whoever thinks otherwise doesn't have common sense. people had an issue with not knowing what to study but it was straight off the powerpoints. the ONLY book online or off I got was one thing that I actually enjoyed reading. great conversations in class too. TAKE HIM!!! if I could rate the difficulty a 0 I would. blow off class.
This is the best professor I have had. Statistics is extremely difficult, but he explains it good and made the class easy. He cares about every single student. He bent over backwards to help me. There is no homework, and you can study for the tests the night before because you will already understand it from class. I made above a 100 in the class.
colin pierson is AMAZING. i was terrified of stats but he really wants you to do well because he knows what it's like to struggle in math. he gives attendance worksheets but they really help boost your grade. his lectures are really easy to understand and he basically gives you the exam on the review. TAKE HIM.
There are multiple attendance sheets throughout the semester that are counted for a grade. Though, attendance is optional if you miss these worksheets they cannot be made up and end up being a large part of your grade. Beware he writes randomly all over the board. But if you get confused just tell him and hell slow down!
Nice and friendly dude. Class was easier and less work than he made it out to be. He said the tests were difficult but I found that completing all of the assignments and doing the review was more than enough to prepare. The easiest A as long as you do the assignments on time, go to class, and complete the exam reviews.
This class is made for Mass Communication majors! He made everyone feel welcomed and answered any questions you had regarding the material. Also, there is a page given out at the end of most classes where you answer questions and that is your attendance. He makes sure that everyone understands before moving forward. Great teacher!
Don't bother taking anyone else besides Pierson for Statistics!! He's an amazing professor that genuinely cares for his students and wants them to succeed. Go to class every single day and don't miss because his attendance is based on in-class worksheets that boost your grade. The tests are all multiple choice and its not hard to do well on them.
He is the actual greatest. I put off taking this class for years and finally took it with colin my senior year and Im SO glad I did with him. He is SO relatable and brings it to a level that you will understand. Just like any math class you have to go to class to understand the material, but going to listen to him lecture is so easy, take him!!!
Colin is AMAZING. I was scared to take stats because everyone told me that the class was so hard. Colin made the material so understandable. If youre scared to take statistics and want to get a good grade, take this class!
Pretty okay class, dude is funny sometimes. Kinda rants but he makes sure you have the information you need to pass the test. Can get away without having textbook
This class was one of the easiest I have ever taken. Colin is hilarious and teaches for the exams! All you have to do is show up and write down what he puts on the board and then study the notes a few days before the exam. Worksheets are graded for completion, and he provides mock exam questions on TRACS. I made over 100% on every exam. Take him!
Colin was a pretty average professor but you can tell he really cares about what he is teaching. He doesn't always have the best way of expressing how to teach it but if you utilize your resources you'll do well in the class (i.e. stats lab / online quizzes. ) Overall I enjoyed the class just make sure you ask questions.
Seriously SUCH a good professor. He is so approachable, not intimidating at all. Very helpful with questions. You can tell he is interested in what he teaches, and makes lectures interesting. Pay attention and take notes and you'll do well. Took him for Intro to Sociology and Data Analysis and definitely planning to take him again. Recommend!!!
I highly recommend this class! His tests are multiple choice- super easy. TAKE NOTES IN CLASS & literally just study those notes!! He also gives a lot of extra credit (on the test & in class he gives a sheet & the answers to it) which helps your grade a TON. You don't need the book, but FYI it is helpful if you look at the practice problems!
Really good professor, teaches to those in the communications majors so he understands many are not good at math. Makes subject matter easy to understand.
Pierson teaches for mass comm majors! He knows we usally aren't math-centric. He's really laid back and approachable, so between that and the tutoring center you should do well in this class. Offers extra credit which is VERY helpful. Attendance isn't mandatory but go so you don't miss anything, especially if you don't get the textbook.
Great teacher. Really cares about his students and will take the time to make sure you understand the material. Make sure you go to class, though; he structures it to have lecture one day, a lab working on your assignment that's over the lecture you learned prior the next day that week.
The only grades in this class are the 4 exams! Professor Pierson is super nice, funny, and he tries really hard to explain the information and help us really understand. I thought stats was going to be horrible, but he made it not so bad. Go to class because it really does help! Gives lots of extra credit. Book not required but it does help.
ok so the professor isn't bad, just sucks at getting grades back to you in a timely manner takes him 1-2 weeks to post grades. nice dude, not that funny but knows his stuff. easiest class in the world if you understand math. studied maybe 2 hours prior to each test and made an A in the class. gives extra credit opportunities.
Professor Pierson really relates to his students. The material is tough to grasp if you are terrible at math, but still possible to pass the class! There are tons of useful resources offered and tutors available. The handouts are super helpful and be sure to do the quizzes online to review for tests; they are a lifesaver.
LOML! CP is my math savior! I have & will always SUCK at math but I pulled it though bc of him. Went to the stats lab for every test and had a B avg (since the only thing graded is tests) but he gave EC so it made up for it. If you go to class you can get EC (especially if its a day before a big break). So sweet, so funny, absolutely love him!!!!!!
such an amazing professor! he knows nobody there actually likes math. he teaches for students who are bad at math. gives out worksheets for practice & for extra credit on exams. exams are practice quizzes online you can print (do them they help) don't worry if you don't know anything the 1st day, it'll get easier. take good notes & look over them
Professor Pierson made my first semester at Texas State enjoyable. I actually liked going to his class and learning the material. I suck at math and pulled of an A in stats because he wants to make sure you get it. He also gives a lot of extra credit. Show up to class, it's not a class you can miss. I took him in the summer and I succeeded.
Pierson is really funny and personable but he wastes a lot of class time by being late and going off topic. He often said he didn't want to confuse the class with a new topic and then proceeded to confuse the class with a new topic, then would tell us we didn't need to know that topic for the test. It's easier to teach yourself from the book.
Note that skipping this class will get you behind very quickly. Since it's basically a computer class, it's not easily self-taught. Pierson provides really helpful resources & will help you personally if you're struggling. He does take a while to enter grades, and his TA can mess up grading occasionally. Overall loved this class though!
Pierson is really cool. If you skip class you'll be a bit confused going back in. He doesn't post notes since he does all of his notes in class. Do the reviews he posts because they're literally the exams. Take him if you're not a math person and you're worried about stats.
He was a good choice to take for this class. He does not post his lectures or notes because he writes them on a whiteboard in class. It's very easy to fall behind in this class so make sure you attend even though attendance is not mandatory. When it came to online after SB he was horrible. Did not teach a thing and just told us to read the book :/
I am a mass communication major and by no means a math mind. Professor Pierson is very knowledgeable and passionate about his job, and it shows. He relates to all of us that struggle with math and is willing to work with you. If you put in the effort you will do well. Plain and simple.
He is great if youre not good with math. I mainly used the textbook since I couldnt always rely on his lectures for quizzes, but he gives a lot of prep. for quizzes like practice, reviews, and worksheets. Easy grader for 2 papers and didnt have exams. :)
I have taken two of his classes. Great decision. Go to class, ask questions. He is helpful. He takes his time explaining topics. He is passionate about what he teaches. The best option for the classes he teaches. I don't like math and I still did well.
Take this class! I took it this summer and we only had quizzes and one final paper. The quizzes are open notes! And he gave a lot of extra credit you just had to do it. The extra credit is easy just use D PowerPoints to help you figure it out. The final paper is also not hard he gives you links you can use you just need to support your statement.
Professor Pierson was a really good teacher! I have a love/hate relationship with math and he made everything really enjoyable and easy to understand! Gives out tons of easy points to boost your grade. He understands math is difficult for some. I would definitely take him again if I could! Take this class you won't regret it!
Pierson is a super kind and understanding professor, especially if math isnt your strong suit. Assignments themselves are just based on participation but studying and paying attention to lectures is needed for tests. That said he is super helpful and straightforward about what you can expect and what to do to get a good grade!
Good professor. Attedance matters, if you miss a class you will be behind. Textbook was a BIG help. He explains things in lectures but I understood the textbook better. Tests are mostly conceptual. I'm not good at math but I did good in this class. Ask questions if you are confused this class offers tutotring. 4 exams including final and worksheets
Best professor I've had. I'm terrible at math and took this class for an upper level credit. I ended up with a good grade because I went to lectures, took notes, and he really just explains things very clearly and made it easy to understand. He gives extra credit opportunities as well, and he's super accommodating and understanding.
Professor Pierson is easily one of my favorite professors that I have had so far at Texas State. I really struggle with math concepts, but Pierson makes it so easy to comprehend and will go over it as many times as you need. I would not recommend anyone else for this class.
Amazing professor! He walks you through step by step and will always be around if you need help- great class to take with Quant.
very caring and fun professor. i love that his tests are more word problems with definitions than math because this is a non-stem math class. he designed it that way because he knows a lot of people who take his class arent good at math. he's super funny and there for you
I really enjoyed professor pierson, he made it really fun to learn. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and gives great feedback on work. If you can take him, do it! :)
The only grades in the class are 4 tests and one paper. Hes very good at meeting the needs of students and gives extra credit & curves for every test. & will drop your lowest test score. Hes the only professor Ive ever had that I felt like I could relate to. He makes his lectures easy to understand & explains everything. Highly recommend.
This class was a breeze, and this professor is cool and just all around a good dude. No exams or final, only short quizzes every week, open note, and an easy paper at the end of the course. 10/10 would recommend
Hes a super funny person. Our class was supposed to be in person but ended up online because he has an illness. He makes hard concepts easy. We had weekly quizzes, discussion posts and thats about it. Lots of extra credit is offered so take advantage. Hopefully you get to have the whole semester in person, hes a cool dude.
Has textbook that really breaks down the lectures. Plenty of extra credit. Responds fast and wants you to pass. Will definitely take him again.
The easiest class I took this semester. I maybe spent 30 minutes per WEEK in total on this class. Kind of hard to access outside of class/via email, but the sociology tutoring lab + textbook makes it HARD for you to get below an A. I'm not a math person but was given plenty of tools and PLENTY of practice quizzes with answer keys.
Lots of assignments but usually he helps you complete them during class time. If you miss a lecture you'll probably be lost for the next class but if you ask for help he is super nice & willing to sit with you till you understand the material. The 7 assignments are a large part of your grade, there is also 2 projects, 2 labs, a midterm & a final.
I have taken this professor for 2 classes and he is awesome. attendance is not required but you get extra credit for it! he really cares and wants you to pass. take him if he is available! you will not regret it
Prof Pierson is great. We had videos every Tuesday even though the class was online anytime. We had quizzes every other week and they were open book. There are like 8 quizzes, 5 discussions, and extra credit assignments the entire semester. He responds pretty quickly to emails and explains the most missed questions on his Tuesday videos. Great prof
He really just wants you to pass. He's really easy to talk to and he makes the lecture days fun! One of my top 5 Sociology professors. If you have to take 3307 or 3318 PICK HIM!
This class is super easy and prof. Pierson sets you up for success. I feel like it would be very hard to fail this class. I didn't do the best on the first quiz and did not earn a 100 on most quizzes, but still ended up with a 100. Just do everything there is to do and you are set. Lots of extra credit and ways to improve your grade.
Such a super easy online class, barely did work sometimes where I would forget I had this class. His TA was super and tried to help him in anyway. I would take him again.
Super personable and interacts well with students. More than willing to explain things more than once since it's a data analysis class, also encourages us to collaborate and work together. 10/10 would take again!
TAKE. THIS. PROFESSOR. If you need a stats class- seriously, this is the one. Mr. Pierson is a fantastic teacher- if you are not math savvy, like myself, you WILL need to read the textbook and take notes. Mr. Pierson has all modules open so you can work ahead. Each module consists of a discussion and quiz. He posts a lecture for every module.
I am NOT into statistics or math of any sort but this class was great and easy to understand. As long as you read the textbook, do the quizzes, and complete the final, you will be fine. Lots of extra credit opportunities are provided so don't miss out. Overall, I would definitely take again.
One of the best professors I have ever had. The way he explains things makes math easy to understand. If you feel like you struggle in math classes, take his class!! Open note exams and a final paper.
This course is graded on weekly switching writing assignments/quizzes, discussions and a paper. The writing assignments aren't hard as long as you pay attention to the lectures, he does not give feedback. Same with the quizzes. He is a really good overall stats professor.
Take him! You won't regret it! This teacher goes above & beyond to ensure the information is understood. Assignments are straightforward & most of the grade %. Tests are manageable. The final project is relatively simple, with guidance along the way should you need it. Go to class, and you will be fine. My only gripe, he is slow to grade.
Prof Pierson makes a tough subject like stats easy to grasp. With open-note quizzes, extra credit, and helpful lectures, this class is a breeze. I'd recommend Unstuckstudy for efficient study prep.
I hate math but he made this class very easy to understand. there are not "tests" but every other week is a 15-question quiz, and the final is an easy 2-page paper. This class is great for those who love to work ahead; all of his assignments are always available, even the final. I was able to knock this class out at the beginning of the semester.
Great professor! There are no tests, only quizzes and assignments that alternate each week. There's discussion boards, but you only need to complete a certain amount to be awarded full credit. The final exam is a 2 page research paper. Every assignment is uploaded at the beginning of the semester & can be completed at any time before semester ends.
homework and quizzes every week but they're very straightforward!
