Very funny and tells a lot of interesting stories during lecture
I loved Dr. William! PSY100 overall is a super easy class and he told so many funny stories during lecture. Beware, though, all assignments are due Friday after he assigns them and he doesn't accept late work, so don't forget the class exists like I did!
Colin was brilliant. Very intelligent and well rounded in the content he teaches. His lectures are always interactive and everyone laughs at least once. His exam content is very textbook, so studying direct material is probably best. Overall I've absolutely loved having him.
Dr. William gives amazing lectures. Everything on the exams is either covered in lecture or in vocabulary in the textbook. So long as you are diligent, it is an easy A
Colin is such an amazing professor that is such a joy to listen to in class. He explains things very well and seems passionate about what he is teaching. I would 100% take his class again. Tests were difficult but he helped so much during his office hours.
He is an amazing professor that accommodates to students needs and really. cares about what he is teaching 10/10 for this amazing guy. Psych 350 can be challenging if you don listen to him while he teaches, but if you do you can guarantee an A
Great professor, definitely take his class for PSY 120, easy class for core requirements and he makes it super interesting
Prof. Colin is an absolute great lecturer who knows how to keep an audience engaged while still getting to the point. All of his presented material directly correlates with what you will find on exams or discussion boards and he does his best to make everything relatable for his students.
Prof. William was the best professor I have had at Purdue so far. He is an excellent lecturer who actually engages with his students and makes learning fun. He is also the only professors I had this semester who was sympathetic toward his students for dealing with school on top of a pandemic. 10/10 recommend, wish he could teach all my classes.
Yes yes yes. I looked forward to his class every week. He makes every lecture entertaining, engages with everyone in class, and really cares about his students. 100/10 would recommend.
Professor William was the best professor I've had at Purdue so far! I took this class Spring 2020, so half in person and half online. He was always so funny and had the best lectures. He clearly knows what he's talking about and always answers student questions fully. His online lectures were still just as great! Amazing abnormal psych professor.
Nice guy and hes funny. It was an easy interesting class and I had a lot of fun.
He is an awesome professor. He is super funny and has great stories. He was always awarding us for doing so good even with COVID going on. He celebrated our efforts instead of criticizing us.
Take notes and study before the tests and you'll be fine. Put in some effort and you'll enjoy yourself a lot. He makes lectures interesting.
Extremely nice and seemed very passionate about his subject and getting students involved in the major.
Only things in the grade book are exams and discussions boards so dont blow them off
He is a really good professor and super down to earth. The only things we have to do are discussion boards and exams, so do well on those.
Professor Williams' class was always the highlight of my week! He was so down-to-earth and relatable. You don't need buy a textbook, provides an online pdf. You do need to read and show up to class to get a good grade! Would take another class taught by him.
He added in jokes and cool stories to keep the lectures interesting. There were 4 discussion boards and 4 exams, but the lowest exam grade gets dropped, so you can miss one. The TA grading the discussion boards was kind of a tough grader. The boards aren't very hard, you write 200 words for your post and reply to 2 people's posts with 100 words.
Great lecturer. You can tell he is knowledgable about the subject and he makes class interesting with personal anecdotes, movie clips, and his pleasant and funny demeanor. Easy A class if you show up to most of the lectures or at least watch the recordings. Make sure to read the textbook before exams, he takes questions from it.
Very passionate about his field, and involves the students in his lectures a lot, makes the lectures super interesting
Prof. William was a truly exceptional teacher. His lectures are funny, informative, engaging and make you actually want to attend unlike other large lectures. He responds to emails within minutes and is incredibly sympathetic if you need extra time or help on an assignment. I would love to take more classes with him in the future.
Professor William is really funny, but his lectures seem like they last a thousand years. I ended up not going to lectures after a while and just reviewing the material on Quizlet before an exam. He seems to be really understanding though and gives clear feedback on assignments or questions in general.
He was a very good lecturer, gave real-life cases as examples and made jokes. I actually enjoyed attending lectures! He was my first contact with psychology and made me decide to change my major to psych. The exams were pretty easy, especially if you watch lectures + read the textbook.
By far one of my favorite psych professors. Truly cares about students and the content he teaches.
I loved Professor Collins! If you get a chance to take one of his classes, take it!
dr william is an amazing teacher. his class was fun and super easy. follow directions and you will get an A. also, lectures weren't mandatory but they are actually interesting so i looked forward to going.
Dr. William is a very engaging professor, so definitely go to lecture! The course was challenging in a way that made me want to work hard. Please read the textbook. He cares about his students and is willing to help outside of class. (Just make sure you read the section in the syllabus about writing emails) Great guy!
Professor Colin's classes are so much fun, even though the lectures are recorded he teaches the material and engages with the class so much that it makes me want to actually go to class. There are occasional discussion boards and 4 exams. As long as you read the textbook you're good. Would def recommend taking this class.
Only professor at purdue so far that I've liked. He provides many real word examples, has an enjoyable lecture, and exams actually cover stuff we go over.
Professor William is a great instructor. His lectures are well thought-out with quality examples and descriptions of the course material. He does like to ramble about stuff unimportant to the material sometimes, but overall it's not unbearable. Not the funniest guy I know but does crack a joke or two. I recommend his class.
Gives you all the information you need for exams
Dr. William's lectures were engaging and the class was very manageable with my other courses. If you stay caught up on the reading and lectures, there's very little you will have to do outside of 1 paper, a few discussion posts, and regular midterm exams that are all multiple choice and fairly easy, with one dropped.
I had Professor William for psy100 & psy120 and he was by far one of the best professors I've had.His lectures are super engaging and he always makes a good effort to connect with his students. For psy120, just make sure you take notes on the slides in addition to reading the textbook for exams. Really chill class overall.Professor William is great.
Dr. William is great, and his lectures are very informative and interesting. I found the course to be very-well organized as well.
Lectures were always engaging. All you need to succeed is to study to lecture PowerPoints as well as read the chapters.
He can be kind of corny sometimes, but overall he's really nice and makes his lectures as fun as possible. He's always respectful and the work is easy follow, including the textbook, which is free. Readings aren't actually required but necessary in order to know some of the exam content.
Makes his lectures very interesting and fun. Definitely keeps your attention during lectures. As long as you keep up with the work and give good effort the class is an easy A.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! take him if you get the opportunity, you will not regret it!!
Cool dude, just rambles too much about irrelevant stuff but he has clear rubrics and an organized brightspace, and the textbooks are free of charge. I recommend him.
You don't have to attend just do the discussion board homeworks and its an easy A.
Dr William was really nice and had a good sense of humor. He cares a lot about his students and is passionate about psychology. But, don't take advantage of his kindness cause he doesn't play about that syllabus Lol.
There are VERY few grading opportunities for students to do well in this class. This class is also exam-heavy. There is also a research paper which is annoying but is not difficult. The TAs also graded us quite harshly. Lectures were interesting but there were some weird comments made by the Prof. at times. Not my favorite psych class.
exams in person, few homework opportunities
exams in person, few homework opportunities, research paper
Very good lecturer however take psych 120 with ANY OTHER PROFESSOR. The reason being it that Dr. Williams is one of the few professors who teach this course who have in person exams. Most of my other friends at purdue taking the same course have their exams online and open note and are doing super well. Dr. William is a strict grader as well.
He gave great lectures that were always entertaining. The class itself was not that difficult and as long as you study for the exams a little bit you're good.
I liked Dr. William's class. There is a research paper on any topic that you choose that corresponds to a certain due date, this is worth a huge percentage of your grade. Exams are pretty straightforward, I recommend reading the textbook since there are some things that he doesn't cover in class that you are expected to know from reading.
Probably my favorite class I've ever taken! Absolutely love the professor's leaching style - it's super engaging and it's fun to learn. Would 100% recommend.
Wonderful professor. Very caring and has great lectures. Lectures are usually pretty empty since he posts the boilercast, but if you go it is very enjoyable. The class is based on 4 exams (1 is dropped) and one paper (which isn't too bad, pick a concept early). Definitely recommend this course.
Professor William is by far one of my favorite professors at Purdue. While he does not curve his tests like other 350 professors do, it pushes you to become a better student. I have really enjoyed him as a professor and recommend him to others who are serious about the psychology field.
Professor William really knows how to teach. I never found myself fighting sleep in his 8:30 am section. He knows how to engage a classroom. His tests are very fair and the textbook is free. He posts all of his lectures for easy catch up if you miss a lecture. Overall, I would definitely prefer Prof. William to teach all of my psychology classes.
Dr. William is an amazing professor! He is so friendly, interested in what he's teaching, and never fails to crack a joke or two during lecture to keep the air light. I loved this class and it was minimal difficulty. 10/10
Dr. William is an awesome professor. Even though lecture attendance isn't mandatory and it is possible to get an A without attending them, I would recommend attending the lectures simply because he's well-spoken and good at cracking jokes to lighten the mood.
Dr. William is a great professor! His lectures are very interesting and his examples are very helpful when learning new content. You are graded by few things, but the class is very doable if you attend lecture or watch the lectures online. I highly recommend taking a class with Dr. William.
Prof William is pretty good. He has good jokes. However the class being at 8:30 made it so ditcheable so in the end I didn't know the material super well. It's not a hard class, but the occasional discussions require a lot of writing if you want to get points on them. I would say if you are thinking to take this class as a fun elective though, nah.
Professor William is a great professor, he is super funny and often makes jokes during class. The only downside to this class is that it is purely a lecture located in Class of 1950 lecture hall (400 or so kids). The nice thing is that he drops the lowest exam score and there is no cumulative final.
Prof. William is just all around great. He uses both notes and book material in his exams, so you have to use the book to get a good grade. There's also chapter papers that you're assigned, but he reminds you of the deadlines every class, so it's hard to forget. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I still go just because he's cool like that.
Actually fun lectures, made the material interesting no matter how complex it gets
Great early morning class to have - it always wakes me up. Lectures are easy to understand, note slides are always posted in brightspace, only thing is that the exams are maybe a little more tricky than anticipated because they incorporate the textbook, but I still did fine. Prof William is a delight
prof william is so funny, his lectures are engaging and psy 120 was very easy. one assignment a month and 4 exams. lectures are not mandatory, i went to maybe half of them and i was fine.
He gives great lectures and has a good sense of humor which makes them entertaining even for those who are zoning out. Even if you don't think you are interested in Psychology or are not studying it as your major, I'd recommend taking Psych 120 with Dr. William as your professor!
While the class was term and definition-heavy, he was so charismatic and funny that it was easy to listen to. He posts his lecture slides and although there is a textbook I mainly used it for additional study material not necessarily critical to the class.
Everything about him is amazing! He makes lectures fun & engaging by somehow always having a person story that matches with every lecture. This course is exam heavy there are 4 and the lowest one gets dropped. As long as you are studying the lecture material and keeping up important terms the exams are easy. No hw besides 4 discussion boards!
Dr. William may seem like a strict professor early into the semester, but is very lax and makes his lectures interesting with stories and personal experience. PSY 120 is decently easy to pass. If you want an A, put a lot of effort into the discussion boards, and actually read the book; about 10% of the exams are book-exclusive content.
Very great professor
Very engaging lectures awesome all-around dude would take again for sure
Cares about what he does, open to questions, chill guy who doesn't judge. I emailed him asking if he taught any other courses just so I could have him again
Just take the other PSY 120 class, which has no exams and is an easy A
Dr. William was very down to earth and all of his lectures were super interesting. He used real world examples and connected it to topics. I had him at 7:30 and WANTED to show up each day because I got so much more out of the content by being there. The class grade is mostly tests and one research paper, so try to do good on those.
Professor William is quite strict in the beginning, however it doesn't take long into the semester for this to change. He is very kind and lax and his class is generally the same way. It's an easy and refreshing class just make sure to study for the midterms and you should pass easy.
Amazing professor in terms of lecture.
William's lectures are fun and engaging, and he also posts recordings very soon if you can't make it. Midterms are not cumulative. Be sure to read the textbook before the midterms for some of the content. He provided a pdf of the textbook when I took the class. Highly recommend using flashcards to help study.
There are no assignments except for the SONA requirement and four discussion boards; grades are based entirely on four non-cumulative exams. Exams rely heavily on lectures and the textbook, with some content covered only verbally (but emphasized). Recordings are accessible anytime, attendance isn't mandatory, and the textbook is free and online.
You need the textbook for this course, some questions on the exams are only found in the textbook. But the content of this course is interesting, and Dr. William is a very good and engaging lecturer. I recommend attending lecture, even though it isn't mandatory. There is a paper worth a lot of your grade, so watch out for that as well.
absolute goat
He gives really good lectures with clear notes. It is a little difficult because there are only a few things in the gradebook.
Records his lectures, but he is fun and nice, so it is worth going. Tests are difficult, but the lowest one gets dropped, and there are so many Quizlet sets that can help you study. Great class and interesting topics.
Amazing Professor! All of the lectures are recorded. He was interesting to listen to, and I really enjoyed this class. Although the tests can be challenging, you will succeed if you pay attention in class, take notes, and read the textbook. I'd easily retake this course.
Really one of the best professors at Purdue. Dr. William is hilarious and makes lectures engaging and so fun. Definitely make sure to read up on the textbook and pay attention to lectures because that is usually what shows up on the exams. Overall, I would 100% recommend anyone take a class with him!
Lots of exam questions taken from book!
It's my third semester here and I would say he is by far best professor i've had at Purdue. He made me actually want to go to class since his lectures were actually interesting and funny. For the exams I recommend reading the textbook, taking a glance at the slides, and going to class since some of the exam questions are strictly from his lectures.
You don't need to come to lecture, but would highly recommend it; he's genuinely a joy to listen to. Both lecture and reading are fair game for exams. One paper is assigned, but it's fairly easy. Provides the textbook for free in online format. You'll learn a decent amount about him through lectures, which makes the big class feel more personal.
I loved psy 120 he is a great lecturer! Although there is a lot of slides, he is very funny and entertaining and uses good examples to help you understand the context, I highly recommend taking it, easy A.
Really funny and makes lectures engaging. Does like to yap.
Dr.William is such an energetic professor who clearly cares about teaching students. He keeps the lectures interesting and engages with the class. Please do not skip the lectures; either attend them in person or watch them online. I promise it is not worth retaking a class.
Dr. William is my favorite professor I've had by far. He is engaging, informative, and shows passion about his field. There is only one paper due (2.5-3 pages). The information you MUST know in the slides and textbook are either bolded or italicized, so it's pretty easy to pick out what you need to know for exams. There is no cumulative final.
He's great!
dr. william is the best professor. his lectures are so good i have literally walked to them super sick just because the class is so much fun and sometimes i forget i'm actually learning. his lectures are fun, easy to follow along, and straightforward. not mandatory attendance. exams and easy discussion boards. what else do you need? excellent guy.
Very clear and easy class structure. I did my SONA early and did well on the first 3 tests, so I was done with this class before Thanksgiving Break
Only thing from this class I learned was learned helplessness. I studied hard for exams and still did poorly. My friends all did well though and he does care about his students. The class is just tough.
i love him. lectures are engaging and hes funny but not mandatory. Four ~650 word discussion boards throughout the sem but aren't too bad-you can easily get max score on all of them if u js put in at least some thought into them. 4 exams but one is dropped. exams are prob the most challenging part of the course but arent extremely bad, just study
Drinks out of water bottle in the microphone too frequently
super engaging, amazing professor. for a 300 level class it's very easy to get into and get an A in. i had to do 2 discussion posts, 3 exams (4 in total, lowest one dropped), and 1 research paper. that's literally it. for the research paper, he gave us very clear rubrics/criteria. get ur ta's help for the paper!!!!
Dr. William is an AMAZING professor. His lectures are always super memorable and he genuinely loves teaching his students. PSY120 is only graded on exams and few assignments, so make sure to put time into the class. Going to lectures and paying attention will honestly get you at least a B because of how easy he makes it to learn.
I enjoyed this class and thought he was a good lecturer! Despite no tracked attendance I very rarely missed class. Sometimes his exams had some tricky questions but were overall very fair. I thought they were pretty harsh in terms of grading the paper but that did not stop me from doing well. I loved the class and would take it again!
He is very kind and keeps lectures interesting. The content can get monotonous at points, but I think his personality makes it fun.
Overall he's a great guy, and while his lectures can get a bit dense/stale at times, he breaks it up by actually having a personality and being funny in otherwise boring topics. Cares about his students and is always happy to answer questions
William's lectures are super interesting! They can be information heavy and drag on (especially in the twice-a-week section), but his personality is engaging, and he'll often ask for student participation/examples. He loves answering questions and loves talking to students. Exams are fine, but you will def need to study both his notes and the book
He has a great teaching personality and knows how to keep students engaged. He posted all the lectures online, so if I missed a class, I could rewatch the lecture. As long as you pay attention to what he says during lecture, it's a super easy class. I'd 100% retake a class with him.
He is very good at explaining confusing topics in clear and concise ways. He is able to break things down and make it easy for everyone to understand. Some of his lectures he would predominantly just read off of his slides but these were the small minority of lectures. It always felt like he wanted us to learn the material well.
