Awsome Prof, makes you want to change your major to Hist. Lots of reading, crazy attendance policy, otherwise very cool.
Great, young teacher. Relates easily to college students. Likes to have fun and is compassionate about her field of study. Overall, a great teacher to have and learn a lot from.
Tough class but very fun and interesting. If you dont want to do the work, dont take this class. There is a lot of reading. She is a very good teacher and i enjoyed this class very much.

Awww! this teacher couldnt be more adorable and sweet. The students in my class never did the homework and she was so nice about it. Very approachable, so kind, and intelligent! She makes the class as interesting as possible! A+! (hardly any homework at all except for reading)
She is a good teacher, open and funny, insightful and smart. She knows a lot about history and will make you want to know more.
She is a great teacher and she is hot. She makes history alive and intresting
young, clever, lively, informative, Interesting, you have to take her class.
Awesome teacher, helpful and thorough. The class is not easy, but if you are willing to listen, take notes, and follow directions, you will be fine -- and the class is quite interesting.
Womens history. Super awesome teacher. She really enjoys teaching and loves this subject. She gets really into it. I loved this class. Very interesting. A research paper but she breaks it down for you so it is less work, pretty easy. Awesome!!!
She wants you to do well in life, and seems to be genuine in her caring. The only thing that really pissed me off is that inside the classroom she has no control. She'd let 2 idiots go off on tangents even if it meant they made her look like an idiot who didn't know what she was doing. She's a nice person- no control of the class and that sucked
Her control of the class is exactly the opposite of the previous review (maybe she sneaked a peek at it) Lectures are well organized, lively, with no tangents. Sex in antebellum America is a hoot! She does require a lot of reading, though.
great teacher. really fun and energetic. a lot of reading and terms quizes are hard because she doesnt give you the definitions prior and no word bank. she wants you to succeed.
she makes the class really interesting, and she doesnt care about dates that stuff happens. lots of reading but her lectures are really good and clear. study for the essays
It is all about reading. If you don't read u'r dead.
She's a great teacher. Extremely animated. There's no way she can not like you. She has a lot of reading and a big research paper but other than that no homework. AWESOME teacher.
She is a really good teacher. Good for History majors. I learned so much and it was a 4 week summer class. She assigned papers every weekend, but they were take home tests. And as she said, the best way to learn about a topic is to write a paper on it. It was a very interesting U.S hisory class.
one of the better teachers I've had at VC. She runs her class like a college course should be. It is a hard class that requires a lot of effort...lots of reading, studying, and research. You will take a lot from her class. she's a great teacher and knows her stuff. I always looked forward to her class and her lectures were always interesting.
Women's History! She is amazing and really gets you into it! I took it a few years ago and still think about her class. There should be more like her. There is a large amount of reading but its actually pretty interesting. She makes it all interesting, so you shouldn't have a problem staying awake!
Brilliant teacher.TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Its not hard, its challenging, easy on the eyes too!
She knows her stuff. You can ask her anything. Tests are hard, study your terms. Seminars are fun use vocab words. Read, Read, Read. Attend class, Lectures are interesting and i learned alot. However, I feel she is a bit left sighted during lectures, and on the videos she picks. But all in all good class, i learned alot. Got an A when asked for a B
A challenging class that can be boring at times, but very interesting conversations. The coolest thing about her as a HISTORY teacher is that she emphasizes how much she WON'T make you remember dates! YOU WILL NEED THE BOOKS!
I took her class as a high school student in order to get duel credit. Overally, very positive experience. Tests are hard, a lot of vocabulary memorization. Class usually consists of an interesting movie or engaging discussion. Overall; great professor! Really knows her subject!
Saw the writing on the wall quick & withdrew the 1st week, seemed obsessed with what she was reading at the time?which was garbage to boot! Glad I got out before it was too late, took Joyce Evans for history req instead?now that?s a great teacher!
If you're going to take her class, be married to the subject, and veeery good at essays! It would probably help to take no other classes but hers at that time because of her 50+ pages per week, along with addition research. If you're looking to learn a little and get through it for GE, don't take her class if you value your GPA..
Best professor VC has to offer!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. If you're looking for an easy class, not for you, if you actually want to learn something shes amazing! Really captivating with her lectures and includes a lot of interesting info on sex and gender in the times which spices any lecture up. A lot of reading but highly recommended!
Tough Class but a very interesting one, worth your while as long as you want to learn something and work hard
Professor Coffey is extremely bright and has a clear understanding of her subject. If you apply yourself in her class, you will learn a great deal. However, the rigorous standards she sets along with constant reading/writing assignments fails to instill a personal interest or passion in the subject. Expect this class to stress you out quite a lot.
do your self a favor and never.ever. ever. take any her class. if i have to hear one more story of slave on her rag im gunna shoot my self..
This professor is very clear, gives great lectures, but tons of work. Her class consumed my semester.I understood content & learned a lot but work load was overwhelming.
I had professor Coffey for two semesters. She made it clear in the very first class that she expects college levelwork, and that her class is not easy. I really enjoyed her classes. Professor Coffey is well versed in the subjects she teaches. She is very helpful,& is willing to give you her time and attention when needed.I recommend her!!!
Makes it clear first day of class this class is not easy. Constant writing and reading assignments;however, if your ready to be challenged and learn; this is your class. If you put effort into the class you will succeed. If you are looking for a kick-back class, DO NOT TAKE this professor.
I loved her class!! There isnt a lot of homework but BIG projects. The tests are half vocab and half short answer/essay from reading. This is not an easy A class but she made showing up to class everyday very fun.
There is a TON of writing!! Read historical novels instead of text which is nice but huge research project & all essay tests. I should've dropped, way too much work for a preq. Too bad, she's a great teacher. Nice, helpful, sarcastic lecturing style, includes details like about women in history. Worth it if you have the time or interest.
Collen is probably the best teacher I have ever had. She requires work and one large essay but its all well understood and she is so helpful. I hate history but I actually learned relevant things from her that I won't forget. Would take her again and again
Not a EASY A, lots of writing, essays, book reports, group projects, etc etc, but thats college, so if your looking for a teacher to help sharpen your writing skills take her, I learned a lot in her class, but missing one class is like missing a weeks worth of info...
Honestly shes a great teacher, I am definitely a fan of 'Easy A' classes but this is not one. But her class is extremely interesting and you will actually want to go to class. Not very much homework but you'll have to read two books and do a big group project with a presentation, not to bad. Highly recommend!!!
Amazing! It's not the easiest class to get an A in but it's very passable if you do what is required of you. There is not much homework, but she does assign book reports & a group project. Her lectures are awesome and she keeps you interested throughout the whole class period. She is super nice and makes her class fun! Highly recommend her.
Christiane Amanpour meets Miles Davis in this smart, dynamic, witty, heartening, fully engaging teacher/scholar who delivers the goods each and every day and respectfully expects students to do the same...if you want to slide by, take something else. It’s a privilege to be in Professor Coffey’s class. The lady’s wizard.
wonderful passionate teacher, very knowledgable in every asct of history, clearly expresses her views and talks about interesting aspects of history that most techers would not, rather difficult tests, has you write alot of short papers through D2L, but if you pay attention and do all the work then you should have no probelm, amazing but tough!
A lot of people dropped this course because she actually expects you to learn and do work (gasp) unlike other courses at VC where you don't even have to show up to earn an 'A'. The lectures are discussion-based where you will learn from each other as well as Mrs. Coffey herself. She creates a comfortable learning environment.
MS. COFFEY WAS A GOOD TEACHER. SHE EXPECTED YOU TO DO ALL THE READINGS WHICH YOU NEED TO DO TO FOLLOW ALONG IN THE CLASS. THERE ARE ALOT OF READINGS. HER LECTURES ARE EASY TO FOLLOW ALONG. IF YOU MISS IT WONT HURT YOU TO BAD. SHE IS FUNNY AND REALLY DOWN TO EARTH. PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AND TAKE NOTES.
Mrs. Coffey was a great teacher! However it is a lot of work, If you want an easy A this is NOT your class, you read 3 novels and must read the text, you have in class readings as well. She gives 3 essay topics for midterm and final in advance then picks one day of final. I learned a lot she's great!
The Perfect class for a student interested in LEARNING the material and being successful at the next level.
This is a really interesting class! She is a very helpful and great teacher. She always has a positive/sarcastic attitude which makes the class fun. The books are necessary and so is attendance. Her tests are not easy but they are not impossible. Go to class, pay attention, and take notes and you will be fine.
Weekly readings which will be diss used in class, in groups, you need to know what your talking about. Midterm and final she will give you hints on what's on them papers but nothing too bad take her if you can.
Great teacher!!! Have to work for the A. Lots & lots of reading! But she makes class fun and her brilliance inspires you to do great in the class! I took her US history class and loved it, so decided to take Women's history just for fun and received As in both classes! Definitely recommend this teacher if you're actually interested in learning!!
One of the only professors at VC that gives work at the university level. If you plan on transferring she is a great preview of what is to come... If you can't do the work here, a university isn't for you! She is great! Very knowledgable! She is the reason I became a history major :)
There is a LOT of reading, and you won't succeed in the class unless you do all of it. There is practically no homework, just the reading. The lectures are very helpful, but stems right out of the reading material, and she does not go over everything. I absolutely loved her and her teaching style, and intend to take her again.
If you're not up for a sarcastic teacher then do not take her. I enjoyed it however, she is not scared to call you out. If you do not do the reading do not show up, she even tells you so. Shes good at getting you to understand the topics better. A lot of little quizze, the unit ones you can use notes. you read 3 books. gives you finalmidterm essay
Professor Coffey is absolutely one of the best teachers I have ever had. Her classes are not the easiet, and she gives a ton of reading assignments, but her lectures are clear, concise, and very helpful. It doesn't hurt that she's absolutely hilarious! If you do all the reading and attend the lectures, you'll do fine in her class.
The best teacher I have ever known. There is a lot of work but not impossible. Very helpful and she will call you if you miss a lot of classes. She cares about the students and will work with you if you need help. Do not show up if you do not do the reading.
I LOVE PROFESSOR COFFEY. I was secretly dreading this class bc I had never been into colonial history, but this was one of my favorite classes! Super passionate & knows what she's talking about. You HAVE to read the assignments, essays, 2 books all semester. DO NOT slack on preparing for midtermfinal you will regret it! Not the easiest but great
She is a harsh grader. Lectures are interesting, when she gives them. I read everything she assigned, she assignes many essays. I had a tough time writing how she likes. Most of my time dedicated to the class. She isn't sensitive to minority background.
Professor Coffey knows what she talks about, her lectures are very informative and interesting. If you want to succeed in her class READ, take good notes and spend time to reread and highlight important information. She gives three test that consist of multiple choice, vocab, and essay. I learned a lot in her class and highly recommend her.
Although she has a great sense of humor and awesome personality, making history (boring subject 4 me) a very interesting class, she grades harsh. This was the hardest class I've had to date and I've been at VC 2 years & almost @ 60 units. I got an A on ALL tests , Aced my midterm & final yet still ended up with a B. Disappointing.
You read an average of 3-5 dense chapters, weekly quiz 10 ques within 30 mins. Way to much info to narrow down. 9/11 book & exam was fair. Midterm & exam read about 10 chapters & answer 60 questions in 115mins. I used tabs to narrow topics in the book (takes time to locate). Prof does not help. I would not take another history class.
She's pretty great, she gives pop quizzes sometimes, just make sure you at the very least, skim the reading before you go to her class. I got an A and she was wonderful just MAKE SURE YOU READ NO MATTER WHAT! Make sure you take notes and STUDY FROM THE WEBSITE! study the words like theyre gold! quizzes are important to getting an A!
Professor Coffey is an amazing instructor, definitely one of Ventura College's BEST. She instructs at University-level, so come ready to learn, work hard and READ. Her enthusiasm & knowledge is inspiring. Do not take this class if you like scantrons & mindlessly passing your classes! I never imagined history could be so interesting!
You MUST read the textbook if you want to pass. Otherwise, you will not pass the quizzes and test. That said, Coffey was polite and prompt whenever I had to contact her, and everything was fairly straightforward. Do what the syllabus says, don't slack, and you'll pass. You have to write a few papers, but nothing too bad. I'd take her again.
I took Coffey's early US history class and it wasn't what I expected. I felt like I learned very little history and a lot about how to write a history essay and politics. I learned very little but did twice the work. She is also really hung up on how they do things in graduate school seeming to forget she's teaching a junior college.
Great professor. NEED textbooks. All tests include a five paragraph essay. You ABSOLUTELY have to do the readings because you will have class discussions on them and tests are bases on readings. Her class is a REAL college class. Do the work, put in effort, study! Not much of a tough grader on essays. She's hilarious too!
Professor Coffey's class was great! I felt like she wanted us to succeed. She helped me if I was confused. Lots of working in groups inside the class, which was fun. There are a lot of lectures, and you will have to take lots of notes. You have to do the readings. There was one big essay and midterm/final had small essays. She gives good feedback.
Very passionate for history! Keeps class enjoyable and stays consistent with sylabus. Follow the instructions, pay attention to the reading, always be ready to participate in class and for a test. Read. Make vocabulary/ study cards!
One of my favorite professors of all time. I have taken every single one of her classes. She is a TOUGH teacher, though. If you don't read and understand the book you will fail. Nonnegotiable- if you hate reading, stay away. Warning: you have to write a pretty difficult in class essay for the midterm and final.
This is a HARD class. I found the teacher very insensitive. She required us to read detailed accounts of abuse and refused to provide an alternate assignment for abuse survivors, saying I should just go to therapy if it was that upsetting. Lots of sarcastic comments about how she thought I wasn't working hard even though I had a B average, too.
She is a good teacher but if you lack self discipline to read lengthy textbook articles and essays, do not let yourself take this class!! Very hard to pass without reading! If you don't mind reading and history is your thing, you should be fine. Just be ready to read and write.. A LOT!
She is difficult to get feedback from. I took her online class and it is one thing for tests and quizzes not to reveal correct answers, but when you ask what you need to do better on she does not tell you. She wants you to just reread everything it seems and figure out everything without instructor guidance.
She's a very tough teacher. I took her online class and it was extremely hard. There's a lot of writing, and a tough "Final Project" that takes forever. She made very derogatory comments to me and wasn't very understanding. She is passionate about history and is very on top of everything.
She is a very caring instructor who calls the students her "children". There's a lot of reading and work to do, but you definitely learn some valuable information. Don't miss class and do your work and you will earn a good grade. She is very funny and sarcastic and will make class more enjoyable. Definitely the best history class I've taken.
Such an easy A. I suck at history so I was scarred to take it online until I take the class and it was nothing about history haha all we had to do was pick a documentary we liked and write all about t for every assignment it was really chill. And she really cares when someone doesn't turn something in. Oh and she rounds up grades by 5%!
Coffey is simply a great teacher. Rather than force us to memorize a bunch of useless facts, she encouraged us to think for ourselves and interpret what the assigned readings meant. She is very open and offered help to any student who needed it. She doesn't assign much homework, so tests are worth a lot! I highly recommend taking her class!!!
A very tough, deeply flawed instructor. Brilliant but culturally insensitive and biased, as well as not compassionate or very aware of how she acts towards others. Don't expect a friendly instructor, by any means. Expect a struggle. Out of years of being at VC, Ms. Coffey takes the cake for being one of the worst instructors I've ever had
Bottom Line: Professor Coffey makes you work... And for many students, that may come as a surprise, but if you want a degree you're going to have to work hard for it. The only things you need to worry about are weekly 10 point quizzes, question responses, and discussion boards- pretty straight forward.
Coffey (School Mom) was the most caring teacher I've ever had. Started off not doing well in this class and she took notice and personally helped me get through it. Student athletes TAKE THIS CLASS, she will make sure you get your work done for this class and all classes.
good professor; keeps it interesting. however her lack for human kindness is 0%. God forbid you have a medical condition or an emergency! She will not allow room for any of that. seems that her life is perfection that she cannot show human kindness. beware if you have a medical condition-dont take her!after 1 of her emails-it was astonishing
She's very well versed in her course and obviously enjoys the subject very much. However, she is incredibly rude and not helpful in the slightest. Take her course if you have to, but if you can manage to take it elsewhere you'll probably be better off.
Great teacher. This class has a more than average workload. But it is a very inspiring class and I did not mind doing the work because I learned so much. Would take another class with this professor.
I was reminiscing about VC after I have transferred out and started reading reviews. I can say that Coffey helped me more than anybody else. If you're serious about school, what she asks of you isn't too much at all. Remarks of her being insensitive are overstated. She always showed me kindness. Listen, taking absurdly easy classes isn't helping u.
She is a tough grader !!!
So the thing about Professor Coffey is that she is extremely caring, but also tough. If you do the readings, you'll be just fine. She has great lectures and class activities to really help you understand what you've read, but again, you NEED to do the reading. She's very likable and pretty funny. Highly recommend her.
This teacher is very unfair. If you want to pass her class, it will have to be the only class you take that semester because she is very demanding. She also doesnt accept late work, not even if your computer or WiFi wasnt working at time of submission. She also asks for ridiculous hours, which is why it should be the only class you take at a time
I took this class to get it out of the way, but I was never expecting to enjoy this class as much as I did. The professor truly cares about her students, and if you respect her and do the work, she will respect you the same. I took the 4 week summer class and it was very doable if you're on top of it. Otherwise, take a longer class.
She expects your life to revolve around her class, giving you massive amounts of reading assignments and homework. Not to mention shes very rude. She doesnt know how to appropriately talk to students. Dont take her class if you cant dedicate 90% of your time to the course work.
I specifically am going to another school to take a required class rather than taking another course with her again. She requires a massive amount of work & if it isn't done exactly the way she would do it, you'll never receive a good grade. My major is history & she gave me the only B I've ever gotten. Take any other history professor but her.
I love this professor. She is full of amazing information I only wish I could get inside her brain. If you are interested in womens history at all her class is by far the most interesting class I have ever taken. She is a rough grader but as long as you are dedicated to school you will be fine. School mom is what we call her because she cares.
Colleen is really fun and makes the material really interesting! She clearly loves this subject. It is not an easy A but it was one of the funner classes I took at Ventura College. Highly recommend her!
Does not understand how to communicate with a student, grading is questionable as you are not getting any feedback from her. She was sent direct emails and did not directly respond but responded to the entire class. Her online course requires full participation from students and zero participation from her. she forgot this is not a English class.
Her online course is Terrible there is so much work and she is a tough grader I would not recommend this class. The amount of work required for an online class is ridiculous. If you decide to take the class just be aware that you will have hours and hours of work to do with no leniency on missed assignments Terrible terrible terrible absolutely bad
Excellent Professor and Class. You will learn a ton in Professor Coffey's classes. She is realistic and direct. The content is rich, thoughtful, and provoking. Be prepared to work, lots of reading required if you want to do well. Suggest taking Women's History during the regular semester though, it was tough in the shortened summer session.
To all students who are planning to take this professor next semester. Think twice and save your grade
Think twice before taking this class She is very hard. She wants you to participate! You are grouped and its mandatory to reply to you fellow group mates about their responds. She gave me a zero for not replying to group mates response. she didn't take inconsideration my response to the subject and give me at least half the points.
Ms. Coffey is the worst professor I ever had in VC. I dont recommend her class to incoming students. Her online class requires so much things. Shes very rude and lacks compassion. Her class is composed of 2 long essays, 4 discussions, 4 exams. If you miss/did not participate in discussion youll get a 0, this is HARDER than an ENGLISH CLASS!
I would not recommend taking this professor. I took her online class and it required a lot of participation which is understandable. What I didn't appreciate was her grading criteria. When posting a discussion you MUST reply to another person's post. If you dont then you dont get credit for the assignment at all!
professor Coffey is hilarious and knowledgeable but get reday to read and do essays but don't worry 2 essays midterm and final and that's it she gives you plenty of time to do them. I had her U.S History since 1877 class and it was good I'm glad I took her class
A very amazing professor. Truly cares about her subject and her students. She has fun while teaching, her PowerPoint are fun and entertaining. Her class is very enjoyable, I was never bored. The readings are very interesting. She is an incredibly professional with great morals.
Coffey likes to appear as a relatable professor but just comes off as condescending. She assigned essays for midterm and complained about them more than any student in the class, and has crated a very negative attitude within the class towards doing any work. Do not recommend, would never take again, just trying to get through this semester.
So much work for an online class, I only took this class because it was required but I definitely would never take it again. All of her assignments are due at 8:59 pm which suck if you work a lot. Make sure you reply on others posts or youll get a 0 even if you had a good response. Good luck if you decide to take this class.
She gives WAY to much reading. She gives you 3 last minute midterm essays and again for the final. Midterm and final are 2 parts, vocab and reading.. both are fill in the blank.. clearly she wants you to be miserable. she's a cool person but a horrible teacher... her work load is not for undergrads/non-majors at all..
Coffey truly cares about her students, but the workload... ugh. Keep up with reading or you likely won't pass the class. The midterm and finals are 2 parts, test and essay portions. There's not really true HW assignments, but there's always textbook reading. It's easy to see she wants her students to succeed, but I wouldn't call it an easy A.
She is ok as a "school mom" only when she really cares, but she is grade heavy and doesn't take late work for any reason even a family members death(she put it in the syllabus). Sometime the question is answered just as needed but still wants more so just write stuff I guess. Good luck. Will not take again.
Dont recommned
I took this class to receive my credits but unfortunately I was forced to withdraw. She gives no extra credit and will give you half points or no points at all if your response is not exactly how she likes it. I contacted her multiple times about my grade and she showed no concern even if I was willing to resubmit the assignment & do extra credit.
I don't normally leave reviews for professors but this class was so so shockingly bad I have to. Insane amounts of reading and the textbook is so mind numbingly dull. If you get even one part of the 4-5 really in depth questions incorrect you get 1/10. Everything is due by 8:59 PM but she doesn't grade it until over a week later...
Professor Coffey ran a smooth online class. Did not have any problems at all. You do have to complete extra projects to get an A in the class, which was unique. The projects were not too difficult, however.
Prof. Coffey is the real deal. She offers really useful advice for handling large amounts of reading, and puts a lot of effort into creating interesting and relevant lectures. She is one of the few teachers that truly changed my life, and I can't recommend her highly enough!
The grading system she had in place is extremely helpful- This was the easiest class I have taken. since it was a web class I took, I didn't have to worry about zoom meetings. However, it was very heavy with reading and I had some classmates from the class email me for help. It's best to have a reading buddy if you're not a fan of reading.
She clearly cares about history a whole lot and I think thats really cool. HOWEVER, I missed two assignments and was immediately dropped from the class with no notice or anything. I had to reach out to her twice to understand what was happening. Lots of reading; kind of annoying deadline if you work full time; I dont recommend her if you work
Lots of homework, tough reading, follow instructions carefully
Professor Coffey makes you read and make sure you understand what you read because you will have to really explain in her assignments. What I disliked most about her class was her outline on how you're supposed to answer her assignments. If you don't quote your answer the way she wants it or if your quote isn't in bold then its a 1/10.
An important course, but be prepared to work hard. I took a late-start online course. Don't do this unless you have amazing time management skills. The assigned reading is dense, you have to analyze a lot. Homework rubric is clear but tough. Either a 10/10 pass or a 1/10 fail. Don't miss assignments - there's no extra credit and you'll be dropped.
Chill professor. Will do fine as long as you follow the rubric she gives you. Lots of reading and writing though. She gives you at least a week to finish each assignment, so you'll have plenty of time to space out the work at your own pace. The required book wasn't hard to finish, get used book from the VC store to find a book annotated already.
She uses contract grading which means you get a 1 or a 10. I spent an outsized amount of time preparing for this class and going over every little thing and I did exactly as instructed and got a 1 with no feedback. She scared me so much that even though I read everything three times, I spent more time on useless picky checklists Avoid.
I loved this professor, she was very knowledgeable, passionate. She did everything in-person nothing online. No tests, no finals, no midterms, no papers. As long as you participate in class and read the material you'll pass. There was a lot of group conversation we did in class. If you don't come to class email her she will send the material.
I had a wonderful time in this class, I learned so much. I felt Professor Coffey really cared about us as individuals. The assignment structure was consistent, 2-4 readings per week, which was nice because I knew exactly what was expected of me. Teaching is insightful and a collaborative effort with the class. Highly recommend.
Assignments are very straightforward and helped me absorb the material really well. Textbook readings seem long, about 10 pages of small print. Only grades possible are 10, 1, or 0. Seems tough, but the criteria are very easy to meet. And is positive and gives good feedback.
Be ready to read. Contract grading .
She is a very tough grader and will give huge comments on assignments that were slightly off. She is tough because she will grade the assignments in a harsh manner and give additional work to the workload we already have.
Incredible professor, grading was very clear from the beginning of the course and was easy to get 10/10 if you keep up with reading. There definitely is a lot of reading so beware of that but they are very interesting and the class discussions help so much. 10/10 class.
I was sadly disappointed I was dropped 1 week after the start date and I believe I was on track. Syllabus mentioned she would email if we had anything missing I never once got a email I just got dropped which really disappoints me. I read the syllabus very clear and I knew saw what was said on the syllabus follow through.
Said she would email back "during her office hours" never once did I get an email back from her. Also never got the updates about graded assignments until after it was due + the 42 hour grace period. All assignments are due at 8:59pm every Friday + grace period to Sunday at 8:59.
I took US History to 1877 summer class. This class is very reading and assignment heavy. Your entire grade is based on four assignments per week (3 assignments where you had to read text and answer questions and one assignment that helps build skills for other classes). It was quite a lot of work, but thankfully Coffey has a 42 hour grace period.
I tried to take this class as an accelerated class. I had never had an issue with accelerated classes in the past and passed all of them with A's. I also was an A+ student in my English classes. When it came to this professor she does contact grading and it is awful. Deadlines are at 8pm. Avoid her class if possible.
This has to have been one of the toughest classes that I have as so far. The way she grades is quite lazy. You either get a 1, 10, or a zero if the assignment was not submitted. If you get a 1 you get the chance to redo the assignment within a set period of time. It's a lot more work than it already is, and on top of that, there's so much reading.
Not worth your time. This class is heavy reading and if you miss one thing from her grade checklist the whole entire assignment is wrong and you will get a 0. I have redone assignments twice for her to give me the same grade.
Very encouraging and provides helpful feedback!
was not clear and helpful
Professor Coffey runs a challenging class with clear grading criteria. Lots of reading, but the discussions are insightful. Stay on top of the work and use Unstuckstudy for helpful study tools - it really saved me time.
LOTS of reading and writing. However, if you stay on top of your assignments, you will be fine. Very interesting class. She provided clear instructions and feedback.
Very casual teaching style; can very easily tell who cares about the course versus those who don't. She's very passionate :)
Very sweet and understanding. She was a quick grader, gave clear instruction, and provided good commentary. Although there was a lot of work, it was not overwhelming. I would definitely recommend if you are a student who appreciates quick grading, kind interactions, and good instructions!
Took her 4 week summer course and it was good. A lot of work but it's possible if you have good time management. Responds very quickly to emails and gave me great feedback. Class was very interesting, wish i would've taken the full 18 week course.
Took her over the summer for 4 weeks. She was very clear about what she expected from her students. Overall good class and easy to get credits out of the way in a short amount of time
I took her Women's History class and loved it! She encourages community and participation within the class. I learned about history topics and got to discuss and debate these topics with classmates. If you show up, participate, and annotate the readings, you are pretty much guaranteed an A. I highly recommend this class!
