Knows the subject matter. Maintains a fair approach by providing ample feed back on assignments.
This teacher cares so much about her students. She's got an awesome heart, and lots of wisdom to share with everyone. She's worth getting to know, and learning from. Her husband is an awesome guy also.
Great professor. Highly recommend.
To be frank, Dr. McLaughlin is a terrible teacher. Very quarky and definitely plays favorites. I was a management major and I noticed that she treated us great but seemed resentful towards the finance majors. She takes things very personal as well and is Dr. Bell's side-kick, be careful what you say. Acts innocent but is actually very devious.
She was approachable and helpful when questions arose. She would return your emails promptly and graded assignments within the standard time limit. You will finish this class with a good overall concept and working knowledge of HR. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give her a 9. The class was not extremely difficult if you follow her directions.
She is a great prof. She really cares about her students and she will do anything to help you out. She is passionate about HR and you can tell. I would read and study hard and you will do fine.
Dr. M is seriously my favorite prof at LU. After this semester I would have had her for 3 classes and am taking 2 with her next semester. You will learn in her classes, so don't slack off, but she makes it interesting because she is so passionate. She is also an adviser for SHRM ( Society for Human Resource Management). Join! It's awesome!
Dr. M. is a great professor. She cares about her students and goes out of her way to help you with your own career development questions such as resume help and cover letter help. Highly recommend! You will enjoy her class and learn tons! Class is not super easy, but study and you will be fine.
She is a very nice person. She loves the Lord and her students and it shows.
This class was a joke. She doesn't like for anyone to challenge her, and you will quickly get on her bad side if you do. She's also the chair for SHRM, so watch out. She accused someone of cheating, never apologized to the class or the student. I felt so bad for him, b/c he didn't cheat. Just do what you're told, and its and easy A.
Frustrating APA professor. Very little substance in grading other than strict APA. Not recommended unless you totally concentrate on irrelevant material.
Has to be one of the best professors. The only students that didn't like her were the ones who were to lazy to do work or thought college was suppose to be a cake walk. She has done so much for her students and it shows she cares. What other profs buy Panera Bread for her class not once, not twice, but three times in a semester? She is one of the only profs who will sacrifice herself for her students success. She is simply amazing!

If you want an easy A, take her. She even bribes her class with Panera, like the posting below says. Who cares about food? We are paying tuition to learn, not be fed. She thinks she's right all the time, and if you have a difference of opinion, you quickly get on her bad side. Don't say a word, eat your food, and you'll earn an A.
Only way to pass this class is do all the available extra credit!By the time you attend this class with a particular major in mind, she'll have ridiculed ur choice to instead choose HR!Caring but over passionate about HR.Half the time in class is spent talkn bout irrelevant stories then she has to rush thru the slides.Get the xtra credit done!!!
Great teacher! If you don't pass any of her classes then it is your fault! No teacher opens up like she does and she is always there for her students.
She may be the first professor to take a genuine interest in your life. The course itself is hard, but the teacher goes above and beyond to help you succeed in life. Great business contact, you'll meet many prof businessmen
She is a great teacher, she is extremely helpful, is always available for her students, she even does career coaching. Her test are more difficult, but that is to help us apply what we are learning. She is a great teacher and I am taking her for 4 more classes next semester.
BEST Professor at LU!!! I just had her for a one week intensive and I can't wait to have her again!! She is the sweetest person and is always there for her students! She has a wonderful passion for the Lord and it shows! She is also very passionate about the subject matter which makes it so much greater to learn! She is by far the best professor!!!
She was the BEST professor I had at LU! She went above and beyond. Her special care towards her students and her love for the Lord makes her a very unique instructor. She is highly recommended.
She is a very interesting professor but I hated just how inconsistent she was with her syllabus. she moved assignments almost every week which made it very difficult to find out what was due. Also we spent at least 20 min to an hr every class talking about our feelings about a certain thing that for the most part had nothing to do with the class.
Frustrating Professor! She did not grade on content, substance, and whether or not the student had a clear understanding of the material being presented. She worried more about APA formatting. Strict and very inflexible. Corporate experience with questionable teaching abilities. Avoid having this teacher if at all possible.
Dr. McLaughlin really cares about her students and shows it, but as a teacher she was not the best. I think she wanted students to actually learn and changed the schedule too much because of it. We missed two quizzes and were never sure what we were doing each class. She also didn't give many details for assignments, but graded really leniently!

On first impression, I knew I was going to love this professor. I was wrong. Lack or professionalism, has a new excuse everyday about why she cannot perform her job up to par, and cannot stop talking about how professional she is which is quite comical. She has posted projects, and then changed them later so things have to be redone.
Best teacher at LU. Great help to her students. Kind and Godly woman who is generally interested in her students growing closer to God and finding their vocation. I would recommend her to anyone.
Most caring and dedicated professor I have ever had. Her classes are difficult but only because she holds her students to a high standard and wants to see them reach full potential.
The only explanation I can think of for anyone having anything nice to say about her is that they never got to know her privately. She is a VERY different person in front of a room of people vs you actually talking to her one on one. I think she is detrimental to this school and I honestly feel bad for any students who have to have her.
Get ready for endless stories that have nothing to do with what you are talking about. Also beware the group projects that are due three days after they are assigned. I would not take this class again.
This professor will not allow for a single unexposed absence without the loss of at least 15 points. She Grades harsher than any 400 level professor at this university. She is one of those professors who think they are preparing you for something by giving you a much harder version of it. I'm in capstone and I get better grades there on less work.
Dr. Mclaughlin was intelligent and knew the material well, but she was quite unapproachable. She often sent mixed messages and was inconsistent in what she said and what she actually did. (Often spoke of the importance of humility but rarely demonstrated the trait herself etc) The book is great though and the information quite fascinating.
Dr. Mclaughlin does not organize her class well. She spends large amounts of time in every class discussing unimportant things or going on rabbit trails. Her instructions on assignments are unclear. She has numerous other responsibilities, and she does not leave enough time to adequately perform her professorial functions. Do not take her class.
While Dr. McLaughlin is nice when you meet with her one-on-one, her teaching style is ineffective. She does not cover all of the content and spends a lot of time bragging about herself. The quizzes given in class were an unfair evaluation of whether I read. The on redeeming quality was the group projects: you will learn how to interact with a team.
Want to learn get a lecture about the material from her? Never going to happen. Constant rabbit trails. She never stopped talking about herself, complete narcissist. I learned more irrelevant facts about her life than I did about the subject material. she apears to be a godly woman, but, only cares about herself and her job. very arrogant.
Dr. McLaughlin is one of the most caring individuals I have ever met. She expects nothing but the best, and truly cares about her students. Take advantage of her office hours if you don't understand the assignments, keep up with the reading, and pay attention in class. Everything she says has application to business in some way.
Hated every minute of this class. I dreaded going to class because although it was mandatory it was not helpful. The quizzes were beyond difficult. Expect 8/20 even if you read thoroughly.
McLaughin does not speak much on Human Resources but on ethical issues, and on topics that do not pertain to HR. She also talks about herself, and what she has done way more so than other professors. She is tends to be condescending, and does not admit to being wrong. She also changes the syllabus multiple times, and changes due dates etc.
Super strict, but fair. One of the most caring, godly women I ever met! helped me so much in terms of planning out my college career here and wants to see her students succeed. Teaching style though was ineffective. Reading quizzes everyday were grade killers and didn't learn a thing thru them. Take her for 1 class, not multiple in 1 semester.
This Labor Class was one of the best experiences I have had. The Collective Bargaining Project was incredibly difficult, but the hard work and effort was worth it. I feel that I actually could go into a boardroom and negotiate a contract with a Management or Union Team. This class is a must to take on-campus for HR students.
The worst professor I've ever had. Gives a quiz each class and they are impossible, I would review for hours and get 50%. Barely teaches, just complains about students. I would never recommend.
She rants about herself every class and talks about the actual content for maybe 10 minutes. She gives impossible quizzes every class, I received my first B ever in her class. She is mean and unreasonable, I dreaded every class because it was so boring.
As an HR major, I feel more prepared than ever before to go out and actually do what I am supposed to do. The real world case study (group project) she had us do, what incredibly intense, but one of the best learning experiences I have ever had.
Worst professor I have had so far. I still do not understand how she is a professor at Liberty. She is never prepared for class herself so rants about random things to cover it. 15 point quizzes every class which are confusing and do not reflect studying. Do not take!
Do not take this class if you aren't prepared to do the work. Dr. M pushes her students to do their best and fully equips them with the materials to do so. If you are looking for a class to bum around in, this is not it. But if you are looking for a class that will push you to your limits, I would recommend her ten times over!
Dr. M is a professional in her field and has more knowledge of HR than most professors I have had. She loves her students more than they will ever know and is willing to help out with everything! Her teaching style is geared towards those who read the book, SO READ. Only take this class if you are willing to do the work.
Dr. M either loves you or hates you. If you work hard to brown nose, you'll be OK. Don't get on her bad side. If she disagrees with your HR policy, she'll take MASSIVE points off. Her HR philosophy is stuck in the 1990s, and not up to date with recent trends and best practices. I'd be happy to never see her again in my life.
Most people who do not like Dr. M just do not want to live up to her high standard. She makes her love for her students abundantly clear. That being said she does not tolerate foolishness and laziness. If you do what she says, and how she says to do it you will find out you leave the class learning more than from almost all other professors.
Professor M. is probably the most self loving professor I have ever had the bad luck of meeting. She often brags about her health program and how she runs a bunch of businesses. Will actively shoot down answers or questions given by students to make herself look better and then when no one wants to try anymore she accuses the WHOLE CLASS failing.
Worst professor I have had at Liberty so far. She would waste the majority of the class going on tangents. She gives extremely difficult quizzes in the beginning of every class, they are impossible to study for. The fruits of your labor are not evident in this class. Want a teacher who rants and doesn't teach? Take Dr. McLaughlin.
If you want to learn every detail of Dr. M's life take this class, if you actually want to learn then don't. I feel like I know everything about her children and nothing about HR. The only good part about her class was the textbook. I have never dreaded a class more than I dreaded hers. So many students complain, it is sad Liberty still has her
Do not take Dr. M's class if you actually want to learn.
Dr. M is a wonderful lady! She has an amazing heart for The Lord and it is evident in her class! Whatever The Lord puts on her heart , she speaks about in class and I love it! Her class is just like the text book, so read! You will not pass if you don't read the book! Dr. M is amazing, take her class and you will learn so much!
Quizzes every class were a pain. I took 342 and 409 with her in the same semester, not recommended. However, she is a great person and really cares about her students! I enjoyed her lectures and her as a person, although you really have to work in her classes.
Worst professor at Liberty. Do not take this class if you actually want to learn.
Dr. M is super tough but she really loves her students. She expects us to be mature and do the reading, but only because she wants us to succeed. Her teaching style forces you to learn and she is definitely one of my favorite professors! She has awesome experience in her field and a lot of good insight. Her stories make her lectures interesting!
The quality of this class was terrible.
I have never had a worse professor. She takes herself way too seriously and does not stop rambling about herself and non-course information. The classes she teaches are not difficult but she makes them hard because of her selfish hard-headedness. She is the only bad memory I'll have of Liberty and I'd strongly advise everyone to never take her.
The worst prof I have ever had. I had a one on one meeting with her that left me so mad I could bench press Demoss. Selfish. does not teach the material. She will tell you everything about her life and her "achievements" but nothing about the material. She has her favorites. Just save yourself and never take her class ever. I would rather eat nails
Class was a wast of time and didn't learn much. Too obsessed with trying to figure out if her students were cheating. Wayyy too much homework.
Overly concerned with rules that have nothing to do with actual learning. Learned nothing from her class and ended up taking it online instead. She called my character into question the first time she met me.
If you want to enjoy your life and learn from a class DO NOT take McLaughlin for any subject ever. She never discusses any information relevant to the class, she only talks about her life and her many "achievements". The tests that she gives are nearly impossible even if you read thoroughly, spare your grade and run!!
Nothing good to say. She doesn't discuss anything important during class, its only ever bragging about her life or rambling about random business stuff. She treats her students like 5yr olds, while expecting you to give answers like PHD students. Tests are brutally hard, and her only advice is, "read the book harder"
Dr. McLaughlin was an by far the most arrogant and rude professor I have had thus far in my college career, she did not teach at all in her class and instead was constantly bragging about all her personal achievements. She would also go on long (hour long) tangents things not related to class but that she thought was important an hour long talk abo
NEVER. TAKE. ANY. OF. HER. CLASSES.
Dr. M is a no-nonsense type of army professor. Very strict on rules, but we always knew when quizzes and tests were. Extremely encouraging with you 1-on-1 and sincerely cares. A very genuine heart for her students. Just apply yourself, and she will notice! Dont do what I did and take her for more than 1 class per semester - WAY too many quizzes.
I am currently taking Dr. M for OB and she is one of the worst professors I have had at Liberty. She expects us to teach the content to ourselves and try to understand it on our own. In class, she mainly talks about her own life and not the actual material. She is arrogant and has a holier than thou mentality. Do not take any her classes
uses class lectures to be "inspirational" and give you life lessons. you have teach yourself everything. tests are only 20 questions so its hard to get a good grade. so many obnoxious group proj. says "its not a hard class" then expects 400 level work. talks too quietly. I hate her and her class. im a good student but this was unreasonable.
Dr. M is meant to be doing what she spends her class times lecturing: bragging about her life. She should be a speaker for events instead of a professor who does not teach! Attend class or fail. Dont waste your time, life, and breath taking this class. This class makes you question Liberty as a University. Dont put yourself through this!
I felt really underprepared for all the projects we had to do. This is only a 200-level class but she acted like it was higher and expected us to know things we didn't. She didn't even teach in the lectures. She just talked about random things or made us do random activities that barely related to the topic.
Did not teach anything relevant. Instead, she bragged about her life accomplishments repetitively, which did not help with the numerous class tests. Her class made me seriously doubt whether I would like to continue my major in business for the rest of college. She gave us tons of group work assignments but never told us how to do it. DON'T TAKE
Easily the HARDEST and most STRICT professor I've ever had. She is brutal and harsh in her grading. She acts like she's teaching a 400 level class and talks to the class as if they are prisoners. She has VERY little grace and zero tolerance for any sign of cluelessness. Come prepared, or be scared. She should not be a professor.
Dr. M is the hardest prof I have ever had in my life. The course material is not extremely difficult to understand; however, Dr. M makes it much harder as she spends a majority of class time talking about herself and gives no indication as to what is on the tests when they make up 45% of the grade. Whether you study or not, youll never be ready.
The content and book in this class were pretty easy so if this was just based on that I'd give it a 5. Unfortunately, Dr. M treats this 200 level course like capstone. We had this project (200 points) and she didn't give us the full directions until about 2 days before it was all due. She has no rubrics either. Never take her classes.
I took her my Junior year. It is a very test heavy class, and she barely covers the material needed. The tests are extremely hard. She told us the first week that the tests cover the same material actual HR professionals are tested on for certifications. Studying the right Quizlets is key to passing this class, but take it online if possible.
Dr. McLaughlin is a very nice person but she is so picky with the way she grades. She doesn't have any leniency and takes point off for the tiniest of mistakes. She uses her class time to either lecture straight out of the textbook or to go on inspirational rabbit trails which wouldn't be as much of a problem if it were only on occasion.
You can experience a capstone class (BUSI 490) in advance by taking her BUSI 240 class. Actually, it is not strenuous as much as the capstone, but I had to take 6 quizzes and 1 final exam during a semester. Moreover, there were a lot of paper assignments with my team members. I didn't say there was no individual paper. Good Luck.
She only talks about herself and teaches nothing regarding the subject. She constantly goes on rabbit trails that pertain nothing to class but rather her "achievements." She is also a tough grader and makes quizzes unnecessarily hard, no matter if you study. Don't take this class with her.
Don't do it. Please, oh God, don't do it. Just go online if she's the professor you have to take. Trust me. It's not worth the emotional pain to listen to her talk about being an Army wife 24/7. Please stop. OH lord, please do it. Thank you <3
Don't do it unless you have to. Especially not at 8:15; the urge to fal asleep was harder than the class itself. She is probably a nice and caring woman 1 on 1 but she is so tedious and annoying in class. It is a straight textbook lecture for 1.5 hours, no use of powerpoint, videos, emotion, or anything that could save you from dying of boredom.
Terrible teacher. Lectures straight out of the textbook, never uses PowerPoints or any visual aides. Refuses to post templates for material and claims reasoning is because its extra work. Assigns major projects with little to no explanation. Avoid at all costs, she is by far the worst faculty member at Liberty.
Very tough grader. She talks about being a army wife 24/7 and has no emotion whatsoever. TERRIBLE TEACHER! Please for the love of God take this class online! She never uses slides and hardly teaches from the textbook. If you take this at 8:15 drink plenty of caffeine.
Worst professor I've had at Liberty. She doesn't use the textbook and most of the time she talks about irrelevant things (mostly her and her accomplishments) so we don't learn much in class. She's confusing with instructions and kinda rude. Plus it takes her years to grade anything. Don't take her classes.
Colleen McLaughlin is an okay professor. She is not my favorite because most of the class she talks about herself and her accomplishments. If you want to learn something then you have to read the textbook. She doesn't use PowerPoint slides and barely goes over the chapter. She is not as bad as everyone says she is but she is not the best.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This class was easy to get an A in and the final exam (only exam) is open book. This class is 2 group presentations and 4 connect assignments every week. I got an A but I did not learn a single thing. All she does is talk about herself. If you don't read the textbook you will not learn. Worst 8 weeks of my life.
All in all, she's tough but only because she actually cares. I, personally had a great experience with her, partially because I wanted to know what she was teaching. Pretty tough grader, CANVAS assignment heavy, group project heavy. It's not easy, but she is a wonderful connection to make.
Expect to hear the words "me, I, and my" the most out of anything else. She talks ab herself and her life way more than anything business related. By the time this class is over I'll be able to honestly say I've learned more ab my professor than about business. What a waste of time and money. Do not take her if you can avoid it
She is incredibly personal and Spiritual. I felt very loved and cared for under her instruction. She is strict and expects the best out of her students, but she rewarded our efforts and was invested in our lives as well. Her teaching style works well for those who learn audibly and by textbook. Course is also group project based. Highly recommend.
Personable, Kind, and Disciplined. Did not use the aid of a PowerPoint.
Dr. M is tough because she cares! She genuinely wants her students to succeed in the future so she expects much. Dr. M takes the time to learn your name, meet with you one-on-one, and challenge you to excel. It not an "easy" A, but if you put your big kid pants on and pay attention, it is possible. (Remember: college isn't supposed to be easy)
Absolutely awful class. The manipulation was disgusting. There were brief moments of connection between her and the class. I recall a class she had us sit and go over the Liberty Way for over 2 hours, then publically shamed us by calling on each student to say what we had done wrong. Sweet lady outside of class I'm sure but not as a professor.
Avoid at ALL costs. She spends every single lecture talking about herself and how amazing she thinks she is. I didn't learn a single thing about what she was supposed to teach us. I did learn that she is rude, has a holier than thou attitude, and spends her free time trying to get students in trouble for "academic misconduct". 0/10 would recommend.
So um yeah. Just no. She praised herself all during her lectures or made it all about her. Incredibly political and forced her opinion down your throat by saying like "I'm not here to make your vote for you".
Do not pay attention to the other reviews, she is an incredible teacher and believer. She will care so deeply about you and make sure you are cared for. Multiple times Dr. M has brought in meals for the class and she treats us like her kids. Shes awesome.
I've had the opportunity to take classes with Dr. M. for several semesters, and my skillset as a student wouldn't be what it is without her. She cares for her students like none other. The spiritual and academic mentor she is to her students is rare; any effort you put into these classes is so fruitful when paired with her teaching and guidance.
If I could give a 0 I would. Worst professor I have ever taken. All she cares about is herself.
She never went over the chapters & just talked about her self for 2 hours & 30 mins every class. She would never go over anything related to the class & would brag about herself & her family. The quizzes she gives are not even on the reading material and she doesn't go over the quizzes or the group projects. You're left to fend for yourself.
How this woman is still a professor is life's greatest mystery. Spends the entire class talking about how amazing she thinks she is. She's the only healthcare admin professor and is the reason I switched majors bc I never want to be in another class w her. Literally would rather swallow a jean jacket whole than spend 1 more second in her class.
One of the best Professor's I have ever had! She truly cares for her students, and I love how she incorporates several life lessons into her lectures instead of reading out of the textbook. She also will reply to emails quickly, and while she does dock points for APA errors as she should if you follow the instructions she'll give you 100%.
The first like 4 weeks of this class I couldn't stand it, not necessarily the professor but just the length and the content of the course but then she brought us bagels and started to grow on me. Then one day she came to class early and I happened to be there early and we talked and she is kind of the sweetest woman ever. also big into group work.
Awesome Professor
Honestly, the worst professor I've ever had. She only talks about herself, politics, and her family. She's usually saying how cool she is. She spends over half the class talking about politics or healthcare things. This is a business research class. It is a group work-heavy class, and she does not reply to emails with your concerns.
Tbh I was really skeptical of this class when I started but I ended up liking it. Dr. M genuinely cares about her students and helped me apply data analysis to business scenarios. This class is heavily weighted on group work so as long as you're proactive with that, you'll do fine.
I took the 8-week BUSI205 and it had 4 group projects. We got out of class early often but we rarely actually talked about Excel and the homework. She goes on random tangents and talks about politics and Trump but she's super nice so the class is entertaining.
Dr. M is one of the most intentional professors I've ever met. Her Busi 205 class is very simple, but she is a tough grader, especially regarding APA formatting and in-text citations. There are about 4 group assignments, but they're all manageable. She likes to bring treats to class every once in a while, like Duck Donuts. Would take her again.
Awesome professor!
While I understand that ensuring a student's work is not plagiarized is part of a professors job, it seemed to me and my classmates that this professor was on the HUNT and ready to tear apart the academic reputation of her students. Requiring APA is standard, requesting students cite every, single, sentence is not (and is not proper either). Run.
She genuinely helps prepare you to go and work in the real world as a Christian ready to take on a leadership role. I love class with her and hearing what she has to teach. You definitely should be prepared to read, and participate for a higher grade.
Great person, awful class. Most classes we had to teach ourselves the content and half of the content wasn't finish-able on a mac. The only reason I got an A in the class was because I complained a lot and she gave extra credit.
DO NOT TAKE HER. If you listen to anything in your life, listen to the reviews. Abused her power to brag about herself, trauma dump, or talk about politics and distantly relates it to healthcare. If you do not agree with her, good luck. Textbook doesn't even relate to the quizzes. Condescending and manipulative. Save your tears and mental sanity.
