He's extremely sarcastic, which is hilarious until it's at your expense. He's pretty cute, and you learn a lot if you're willing to listen. The only thing that sucks is that you think you are doing well until he hands you back a paper.
This class was pretty easy, and I learned a lot about writing. There are vocab quizes though and some people didn't like them, but I thought they were pretty easy. He is sarcastic and funny, and very approachable if you need help with the assignments.
He is the teacher you like at first... very sarcastic and relaxed, but as the semester goes on it can be aggravating! When he is in a good mood he's fine, but when you are confused about something and he's in a bad mood he can be a bit rude. Overall not horrible. Just be sure to do ALL of the reading because there are lots of quizes on them!!!
If you take this prof be prepared to work. His grading was difficult on papers but quizzes and other assignments were fair. If you are looking for an easy A look somewhere else but if you are looking to actually write well i would say take him. Do not cross him...be respectful and participate and youll do fine
Kinda sarcastic and a tough graded but cool if you do the work. Lots of quizes.
He is not a push over teacher it is pretty hard but worth it in the end...the class is pretty kick ass.
He's a pretty cool teacher. He gives a lot of reading, and if the class as a whole doesn't read, he gives quizzes on it.So make sure you read! He gives 10 vocab quizzes, they're fairly easy, I always studied before the class and got eight 100's. Overall a fairly easy class, he grades papers really rough though.
Griffin is a hard grader but definitely takes the time out of his lessons plans to review and go over anything that the class seems unclear about. He is a wonderful teacher and really cares about the wellbeing of this students, even if it means not being a hard *** sometimes. If you get an A on one of his paper's you should feel really good.
He nit-picks and finds things to mark off your grade just so he can feel powerful. Teachers assistant for my writing class, it's like he wants us to fail. Avoid this guy. Very bad grader.
Awful. He is a terrible grader and a terrible teacher. Avoid this guy.
Awesome teacher! Plenty of work, but if you do it all, no reason why you should have a bad grade. He provides any extra help that you may need. Some thinks he is an a** but don't be rude, do the work, participate in class and DONT TEXT!
Had him for Environmental Humanities. I wasted over 3 cartridges of ink in that class even though computers were available to everyone & the handouts were available online. I had more busy work from him than in Bio 2. Has a horrible attitude which makes you hate him so much that you write comments on here to discourage others from taking his class.
This is a sad, odd, awful mess, and he is a jerk. he is an ARROGANT PRICK. Oh well, so it goes...
I had this teacher for ENC1101 and he is SO sarcastic. He's the professor you either love or hate but he did help my writing a lot! the class has a lot of work due, and readings. BUT theres no final or midterm which is amazing. i liked him as a professor and his sense of humor but most people dont!
This professor is rude and useless. He dies not help you willingly and on the rare occasion he does help you, he is sarcastic. Do not take him! The class is not hard but it was hardly worth his abusive attitude. Someone should knock him down a few notches and maybe then he would tolerable.
at first I thought he was a **** but afterwards I really enjoyed his class. You learn A LOT if you are willing to put in the work. He will like you more if you go ask him questions and seem interested during his office hours. He grades pretty difficult but will really bring out the best of you if you try hard.
He really isn't that bad. He is not a push over but if you particapate in class and do the work than you should do well. He gives a lot of work but he is always willing to help. He gives three papers and no final exam.
The prompts he gave for papers were often vague and very uninteresting. He's very concerned with himself and barely has nice things to say to students. He doesn't get to know his students. Doesn't allow you to talk in class.
This teacher is awful, highly dont suggest him. Extremely sarcastic and has no respect for students. Paper prompts are extremely vague and he gives no feedback when you ask him question. Goes out of his way to not help out anyone who asks for help. He thinks its his world and were just living in it. Arrogant, sarcastic, not worth taking. Ever.
Mr. Griffin is the most interesting man in the world. He makes class entertaining, and fun to attend. He is a hard grader, but just meet with him during his office hours for help and there's no reason you shouldn't get a good grade. He's not mean as some might say, he just wants all of his students to be prepared for college writing.
He is an interesting person, and it is not boring to go to class. He always tries to get everyone awake. He does a lot of in class group work which helps out a lot. He does though, grade HARSHLY, but if you go to him outside of class and show him your essay before you turn it in, he WILL tell you what he wants and you should get a good grade
class is a joke but then he grades harshly. prompts are way too vague. i am a sarcastic person and he takes things too far, very rude and opinionated. do not recommend!
Very interesting professor. Class wasn't easy but at the same time wasn't extremely challenging. It's a fun class to go to b/c he such a different professor he doesnt fit the stereotype at all which is awesome. Hes really funny. Just go to class be respectful and put effort and you should be alright
Easy classwork; there are lots of group assignments.Tough grader when it comes to papers.Often not clear with directions. Not helpful;when you ask for help he seems uninterested and provides vague responses. Sarcastic & has an ego, unreasonable & non-lenient. Would not recommend, a poor excuse for a professor. Is more fitted for a high school gig.
Boring class very unclear about what he wants done in the class. Easy assignments, hard essays and very rough on grading them. Strange man comes off as a pothead and cool but not very helpful. Wants notes for everything, not a very good college professor.. Do Not Take if your not Good at Essays. He will kill your dreams of writing.
Mr Griffin appears a bit strange at first but is a cool guy. He is demanding and his grading can be tough but is always fair. He gave all of us the opportunity to rewrite each paper once taking his comments as a guideline to improve and helped wherever he could. Doing homework and attending is a MUST. Had him during summer with just 4 other guys.
Mr griffin is amazing have learned more about writing than ever before !! He is hard but if go to class and pay attention you should be alright I have an A in the class n he helps so much !!!!
This proffesor is very hard especially when in comes to grading his papers which are very difficult to write. He also gives a ton of homework assignments, that are not always clear. If you have trouble writing, and need more help on your writing skills do not take this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOU DO NOT LIKE TO WRITE. He will say that paragraphs are 9-14 sentences. I'm being serious.. if writing is not ur passion, dont sign up for him... and do not miss class because he will fail you.
TERRIBLE! do NOT take this professor if you are not a strong writer and do not take sarcasm well. he tends to pick on certain people in each class. very demanding. safe to say that almost everyone in my class hated showing up. it was that bad.
Right so, pretty tough grader on essays. If you want an easy class this is not it. He will help you, but you have to seek him out after class if you need help with things. Overall a positive experience, and I feel quite ready for any other college level class after his. Just don't expect an easy A, or even B.
Griffin, grades rough. If he isn't interested in your topic he doesn't give you a good grade. I liked his class because he was always so happy. But, sometimes his happy came off as annoying. He cares about his students, but when you ask for help you have to beg him. He also may come off as rude sometimes so just be aware. Good luck.
My recomendation is you do not take this class. This class is absolutely terrible and you do a bunch of stupid work that is pointless. So look for a different professor if you want to do well.
He gives a lot of assignments but helps you with them
Will make you a much better writer if you follow instructions and take critiques well. He assumes that if you made it this far in college, you should have some basic knowledge of grammar and spelling. If you don't, it's YOUR responsibility to ask for help. Not a class for entitled students or people who lack self-awareness.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Conan Griffin is extremely arrogant and it seems as though he has nothing else to do besides make student lives miserable. He expects notes on everything and does not include even half of the assignments he grades in the syllabus. He is rude when you ask for help and does not care if you pass or fail
If you are taking professional writing do NOT take him. Extremely tough grader! When he's gives you his critique he will say "Oh you did this very well, but you can work a little on ____," then take off 25 points. Everyone else who takes a different professor has to do half the amount of work and put in half the amount of effort and gets an A.
Griffin is the worst professor I have ever had. He was rude for no reason and is an extremely picky grader. He will take points off for everything. There were about 9 people left in the my class by the end of the semester from the original 16 or 17. I was warned not to take his class but he was the only teacher with seats left. Don't take his class
When I took this class I wasn't super crazy about professor Griffin, at times he can be a little rude and he definitely makes one work for their grade, but this class will make you a great writer. His expectations may be a little higher than the average comp professor but he does make them clear. If you want to learn to write, this is the class.
Griffin is hands down the worst professor I've ever had. He is condescending and arrogant towards his students and assigns loads of pointless homework that isn't relevant. You will learn nothing, and regret taking the class 2 weeks in. Hard grader, rude, and a complete waste of time, effort, and money. DO NOT TAKE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!!!!!!
The papers were exceptionally long and getting a good grade in the class can be tough if you mess up in the first few weeks. My advice, stay on top of the assignments at all costs and do not slip up on the first few weeks. Also check your paper with him before the due date, he will go over it with you and tell you what he's looking for in it.
Get familiar with the syllabus to understand what it is he expects. Obey the guidelines giving for papers. Get assignments in on time,
Hes definitely one of the toughest professors on campus. This didn't concern me at first because Ive always been pretty good at English. But I goofed off the first few weeks and didn't take major assignments seriously enough. Overall, I think hes demanding but fair. My advice? Stay on top of assignments and give them your best effort every time.
This professor was the opposite of helpful or productive. I never received anything above a C on my papers - even after I took them to the writing center. His grading was so subjective & he nitpicks at your work. There's always room for improvement, but that means you can never achieve an A. 0 out of 10! DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR
Not bad of a required class, but be ready to read and discuss until you're blue in the face. Also, he has an attendance policy, so don't plan to miss more than 2 classes-- although you can't help emergencies!! Thought he was cool at first but he turned out to be a very disappointing professor. Good luck.
Taking Introduction to literature with Conan Griffin? Here's some advice. Always check the syllabus for upcoming lectures and assignments. Before every class, you will be assigned to read a text and take a quiz at the start of class. Multiple group assignments/projects. Be sure to understand prompts (and books) before writing to avoid "nitpicking."
Sitting in Griffin's class was like being in high school again. He is very condescending and doesn't allow you to ask questions in class, I was told to go to office hours. Lots of unnecessary busy work, we had binder checks. Towards the end of the semester he ran out of things for us to do but continued to keep us the full class time.
Had him for University Tansition. Tough grader but overall nice guy.
Feels like a high school class with high yet-vague grading standards.
I did not find him helpful at all. In the beginning of the semester I absolutely loved him, but as the semester went on I found myself absolutely dreading his class. He makes me feel stupid when asking questions, very contradicting and rude, and assigned ALOT of unnecessary work that you will always have to print out. I wouldn't recommend taking.
Mr. Griffin is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Both academically and personally. Everyday I would walk in and had no idea what we were going to learn about. He makes us play stupid games before class, and we aren't even allowed to use our phones before class. Really? His class is elementary, but grades like a grad student. DONT TAKE!
I'm taking professional writing with him and I'm only three weeks in and can tell I'm in for a long, miserable ride. I've always been a good writer haven taken AP lit and AP lang. His grading however, is very vague and subjective. The guidelines for the paper are vague and his rubric is even worse.
He grades hard but doesn't have very clear assignment guidelines.
Great professor. He gave me lots of feedback anytime I needed it. Anyone who said otherwise just wants to be given an A. If you take the time to get ahold of him, he will gladly help you in return. I honestly think Professional Writing was the most beneficial class I've taken. I am a baseball player 10 hours a day, if I can get an A anyone can.
If you're looking for an easy A, and easy B or even c do not take professor Griffin!!! I took bio during the same semester and thought getting an a in bio was easier than getting a high grade in this course. You have 3 hours of homework three days a week. One benefit is that through the group projects you'll become close with your classmates.
He's a good teacher for an online course, very accessible and responds fast to emails. The set up is amazing, you know what you need to do each week and by what time. You do need the textbook, we have quizzes on the chapters. He grades heavily, but with his feedback, you always know where you could improve in and why he graded you the way he did.
Professor Griffin is one of those english professors who is really stringent giving out those 100s. 90 is about the most you will ever get on any assignment, and he takes points off for any little thing. It's an easy class, but don't expect to get 100 on anything.
Mr. Griffin is a nice guy and is pretty chill about a lot of things. There is a lot of reading and lectures so be prepared for that and you usually have to write a few journal entries every week. He is a very tough grader and his class gets repetitive at times. The group projects seemed unnecessary and were also graded tough.
Literally the worst professor I had. Disrespectful and very picky.
Ok here's the deal, he is just okay. Honestly, he is an extremely hard grader and his guidelines for the essays are really unclear and confusing. I do not recommend his class. I hear his wife is better so I suggest you look her up. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
If you actually try the homework isnt that bad, but if you slack like i did you wont get great grades. Nice, until he gets annoyed then he acts out and makes it clear he is unhappy. Offers late assignment grace sometimes, and if you dont understand a concept he tends to get annoyed, especially if hes already explained it a few times. Weird guy.
If you need to take intro to lit just take it with any other professor and you will surely receive a better grade and be less stressed. I took this class during my freshman year and it caused me so much unnecessary stress. He is a hard grader there is a quiz every class and you have to read every day before his class and write a journal entry.
He's available almost any time of day by phone, email, or office hours. He's really easy to talk to and genuinely cares about your grade. However, you'll only pass if you're not lazy and actually talk to him about his expectations. This class was super easy for me because I put in the effort. Don't take this class if you want an easy A.
Absolutely horrible. Needs proof if you're sick and won't accept until it is approved. Refuses extensions, grades participation so harshly it's like you're in middle school again. Passive-aggressive and not lenient whatsoever. What should have been my easiest class, I got the lowest grade. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND EFFORT. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR.
worst professor I've ever had. Do not take this professor, please. Very uncaring, condescending, and rude. Picks on students just because. It felt like I was in middle school again. Horrid experience, tons of worthless assignments that take up more time than both my chem and stats class combined.
Prof Griffin is alright for the first couple of classes, then he starts to get careless and rude. Acts superior to students a lot. If you don't participate he'll pick on you randomly. Made us play stupid games and assigned tons of useless work that looked easy until he graded it, which he did harshly.
Dont take his humanities class, unless you wanna hear some dumb stuff.
For my class there was never even a lecture. He says that it is not needed even though his papers require very specific things. He is accessible, but you would have to chat with him every time you have a question instead of him just giving a lecture and telling you what you need to know. If you are not the best at writing do not take his class.
Professor Griffin is a caring professor who sends motivating messages when you are working hard to improve your writing assignment score. He made the assignments due Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:00 pm. I did not like that schedule, it made the class more stressful than need be. He also grades the assignments pretty harshly. But overall decent
(The course is really called ENC 3250) I took Professor Griffin for Professional Writing (online). You can tell he wants you to succeed! He does not try to trick anyone or grade unfairly. His grading criteria is clear. If you give him what he wants, you will get the grade you want. He is a very easygoing guy that is just there to help!
Not necessarily an easy class, but definitely not hard. He communicates clearly and is very specific with what he wants from you. Definitely go by the rubrics as he goes exactly by those. He gives great and specific feedback and responds to emails and questions quickly.
Not sure why theres so many negative reviews. Ive taken him for Comp1&2 and im taking him for professional writing next semester. Mon.(super easy),Wed.(decently okay),Friday(moderate) assignments. If you really put effort into the class youll get an A, EASILY. He usually gives students a break(or E.C) at the end of the semester. HIGHLY SUGGEST!
Really great professor! He really cares about whether you're learning or not and makes an effort to encourage learning. A decent amount of writing but grades on completion. You have to go to class to get your participation grade and he will make you talk during class but he makes the classroom feel comfortable so it's not a big deal.
Terrible assignments. Don't take his class
Gets the whole class involved everyday which I enjoyed because instead of sitting there dosing off, he makes it so everyone is engaged and it really helps. Also free food
You can tell that he wants you to do well. He wants things done a certain way, but the guidelines are very clear for what he wants so it is not hard. 300 word paper due every week, one page paper due every couple of weeks. Very manageable class.
This is my third course I have taken with professor Griffin because he teaches very do-able online courses. The textbook is mandatory. I would look at the grading scale on the syllabus before the semester starts and make sure that you do WELL on the heavy graded assignments. Do the optional peer reviews and ask questions if needed. He helps!
He gives at least 3 assignments/week. He desperately wants this class to not be virtual. There are discussion posts each week and he makes weekly videos that are pointless. His feedback tends to be unhelpful and confusing. He's slightly pretentious. Once you pick an essay topic, you stay with it for the semester and write many papers on it.
I was very excited for this class at first. However, I realized that choosing him as a professor was a mistake shortly after. It looks like he tries hard to seem cool and is rude to students bc of that. It felt like I was in elementary school again with all of the busy work and with the way he forced everyone to participate. Did not learn anything.
Very tough grader and feedback videos were not very helpful. He did give opportunities to pick up your grade on certain assignments and gave extra credit. His attitude and grading style overlooked this however, I would never take his class again.
Professor Griffin is amazing. He is a very straightforward teacher and puts everything on canvas ahead of time for you. The class is mostly discussions, writing assignments and other little assignments like chapter quizzes. I loved his teaching style and he is very useful and wants his students to succeed.
Had him for intro to humanities and it was more writing then all my other classes combined. Makes you talked about uncomfortable topics and if you do not speak up he will call on you. Judgemental, passive aggressive, participation matters, does not like technology, no phone classroom
One of the worst professors I've taken at the school is incredibly passive-aggressive and tries to make everything 10 times harder than it has to be. Highly recommend not taking this class.
Easily by far the worst professor I've ever had here at FGCU. Extremely condescending, rude, and super passive-aggressive. Taking this class will make you feel like you're back in middle school the way he teaches. Slams you with pity assignments with no grace period for anything. He seeks students for failure.
The worst professor you could take, he will make your life a living hell. Extremely harsh grader with no grace period or wiggle room. He is also super condescending and passive-aggressive. Teaches a college course like it is a 5th-grade English class. Highly recommend taking anyone besides him.
This professor focuses more on bonding in class than actually teaching. You can only miss class twice or else he will take off credit, even if you turn in everything. He's unnecessarily sarcastic and he's also a harsh grader. I feel like I learned nothing during this course, but I had to take it due to gen ed.
An outstanding, charismatic professor. This professor designs his canvas page perfectly. He listens to the students about issues they may be having. Workload is good. Work is clear. No mistakes in syllabus or canvas to mess up on. This teacher is one of the best teachers i've ever had. A true asset to the community.
He is very energetic but forces everyone to participate. Tests daily and reading passages/assignments due every class. Gives little to no leeway on the group project and requires you to have physical copies of books or points off your grade.
His class was very integrated with technology and promoted group work instead of individualism. Lessons learned from the course helped me be more intuitive with group assignments and teamwork, overall he is very nice when it comes to assignments and basically gives a well written out playbook on how the course is run and what to do on assignments.
He is the WORST professor I have ever had. All of his assignment's criteria were extremely unclear. He is an extremely tough grader and will rarely give you a perfect score. He constantly is trying to meet with students to "help" them, but then gives little to no guidance on issues they are having. He is also always extremely passive aggressive.
Class wasn't too hard if you put in the time and effort. He gives clear grading criteria for all assignments so make sure to take time to carefully read those. He is always willing to answer any questions that students have about assignments.
