Connie is the greatest communications instructor there is. She is creative, entertaining, approachable, accessible, and a ton of fun. I would definately recommend any class that she teaches. She is so much fun and very helpful.
Connie is the greatest instructor that I've ever had. She is very approachable and overall nice person. She is entertaining and knows communications like the back of her hand. Take any class with her and you'll love it.
Connie is sweet and a great teacher. Easy and fun class!
Connie is a cut above other instructors. I thoroughly enjoy the manner in which she presents the material. There's not enough space to express my profound gratitude for having the opportunity to have studied Communications under her tutelage. And yes, she is hot!
She is very nice and funny. Everyone would like her.

She doesn't actually seem to know anything about communication. I guess she just needs to go back for her doctorate or something. She's too conversational and doesn't talk about the actual content of the class nearly enough. It makes her classes boring as hell.
Pretty Good teacher, a little spacey at times, but I've done well in her class, and learned lots about communications theories. Would definately tell others to take her courses.
Connie is an awesome teacher! I hate speaking to an audience but she made it fun. She is always happy, chipper, and always willing to help. She is also a very easy grader. If you have to take a comm class, take it with her!
I honestly love taking classes with her. And this nonverbal class is no different. She makes communication fun and interesting and presents it in a way that you can remember and do well.
Very simple. She gives out study guides and sticks to her sylabus. Do what she asks and you will get a good grade.
Connie is a great teacher. Take her classes if you get a chance>
Connie is a good professor. She explains the material well, and has you participate in fun experiments so you don't have to listen to a lecture for 2 hours.
connie is so awesome. she is extremely helpful and patient! her exams and assignments are very easy except that HUGE term paper. be ready to nail it. She makes her class interactive and really wants you to pass her class. we did use the book specially for the test. definitely take one of her classes :) ull enjoy it
She is an excellent professor who effectively presents information. Her classes are interactive and always positive. There is always a high level of learning in every class I've taken with her. I always exit her classes having gained not only the theory of communication but an adjusted perspective towards daily communication. Highly Recommended!
I could never get tired of taking classes with connie! she is amazing and vas voted instructor of the year! The class is easy, very few homework and she tries to be interactive in her classes and switches it up a bit. You will need the book for some assignments since you have to use those concepts in every day life situations. TAKE HER!
I enjoy Connie very much as a professor and as a person. She tries to make classes interesting and is VERY helpful with her students. She wants you to succeed. Her classes are very easy and you learn a lot. The only bad thing is that her lectures can be a little vague as well as her study guides, so its good to have the book for reference.
The trick question teacher. Connie is a good prof but she really needs to learn how to make her tests more clearcut. The multiple choice tests always have two very good nearly comperable answers if nit three. There is rarely one answer that just stands out as right. Study, know the material and don't expect and easy A.
One of the best at UCCS!!! She keeps the long classes interesting!!! My favorite class and professor this semester by FAR!! She makes it a joy to go to class!!!!
Connie is ideal if you like to talk and do group work (it's COMM after all). She likes to have students teach the class for a day. Our textbook for Persuasion sucked - painful blocks of nonsense tangents! Her test questions and answer choices tend to be weird and NOT make sense; you have to get her train of thought. She teaches from slideshow
Very energetic and engaging in those early morning long classes, everyone has the opportunity to speak on something they care about and has plenty of opportunity to speak up in class. Her tests are trick questions and she does teach from the powerpoint, but she is very cooperative and understanding.
She was allways there to help in anyway. However she grades attendence like a test. I would have had an A if it were not for a pour attendance grad. Which makes not sense to me because the work was there without the attendance.
Very cool professor, Very helpful as well.
She was sweet. The class was fun even though it was dry material. Her notes from lectures were useless. The key is to attend class and use the study guides. You can check out for the rest. Good easy prof.
Connie's classes are super easy. Be warned, though, she relies heavily on group projects and her PowerPoints are not very helpful. Tests are easy if you take notes during class.
Very sweet lady. Tries hard to keep it clear and interesting. Loved her teaching style.
Connie is a great professor, She is very fun and keeps the class interesting. Her study guides are helpful and she is great when you ask her questions. I recommend taking any of Connie's classes. Her tests are easy if you study and she really makes dry subjects very fun and interesting. She does give attendance points and expects you to be in class
Prof Blackmann is wonderful. Often her insights are more helpful and engaging than the textbook. I think she should write her own book for this course, because students would want to read it if she did!
Professor Blackmann is a quality teacher. She takes the extra time to make sure the class is engaging and understandable. She's great!
Stupid class. She never teaches. It's always group projects, group work, group presentations. I am not exaggerating, every single class she sends groups out to make a skit or presentation to then come back and show the rest of the class. Oh, and the groups don't change, so if you get a bad one, you're stuck with them the whole semester.
Connie is funny and organized, but there are times where it doesn't feel like class has much purpose. I would like more examples and lecture and less group work.
awesome!
Do not take her online classes. She's very unclear about every assignments and she is very inconsistent about informing properly. She assigns group projects in an online class which makes it so much harder.
Her class is fun to attend, or at least that was how she made it to be. The class is purely presentation so attendance is a must. She is really generous in grading since the class is help you to learn, not to assess your skills or knowledge. As long as you give in some effort, you will get an easy A.
She sets the expectation that it's a 4000 level class, yet, she doesn't teach it, we do, while she sits there. You're stuck in a group and have to sign a contract. Her power points are vague at best and full of typos. The exam study guides don't cover anything on the exams. She doesn't seem to like answering questions, either. Not there for you.
Ms. Blackmann was an amazing teacher for me in the Pre Collegiate Program. She cares about you as a student and helped me learn all about interpersonal communication. When I enroll at UCCS I plan to major in communication and take as many classes as possible from her!
Loved my class with Connie. She is personable and down to earth. Lots of group work but she lays everything out clearly and is easy to talk to.
I had Connie for several comm classes (1020, 2010, and 4200) and I loved her each time. The classes are not difficult, but you do have to put in some effort. If you show up and try, you should walk away with an A. She is very personable and caring towards her students. Group projects are a pain (especially in 4200) but she is always there to help.
Professor Blackmann is extremely nice and helpful. She makes students feel at ease even at times of high work load. It is clear that she is there to inspire students and push them to succeed. One of my favorite teachers.
Connie Blackmann was okay. She had some boring powerpoints and briefly talked about those, the tests were pretty easy, and so were the essay topics. I didn't like that we had small group projects almost every class and then a large project with another person. But, it is a Communications class, so that's what I should have expected.
Connie was an okay prof for the only communications class I needed to take for my degree, but she wasn't stellar. She rarely lectures or teaches out of the book and expects you to read all of it outside of class. She didn't prepare us for the midterm at all and her study guide was confusing. Speeches were too close together & weren't guided.
This professor made my first online class at UCCS a great experience. She goes in to great detail on each assignment and responds to emails quickly. I learned quite a bit in her class and she made learning the different theories a lot of fun! I would definitely suggest taking her classes! She was one of the best COMM instructors I've had!
She was alright. I don't remember anything great or anything awful. If you need comm 2030 to graduate, it wally wasn't bad. Easy tests and group project.
I took Connie for the Honors Public Speaking class, the winter intensive one. She was great during this, and did a great job of not overwhelming us even though we only had 5 days to do 3 speeches. She gives really good feedback, and really wants to help her students become better at and enjoy public speaking.
Connie Blackmann is a very energetic woman who is obviously passionate about communications. In-class lectures can be somewhat dry but she has a good sense of humor. Group work and presentations are to be expected every class, but that is the most work you have to worry about in lectures. Overall very light class and a good theory course.
A ton of group projects. The work load of the projects are kind of all over the place needs more structure. Final project is an outline pointless, she basically wants you to use all the concepts youve learned in an outline.... favorites certain students...
If there are other available teachers for this course, choose them. Connie is not helpful with her students when contacted for help. Online classes make uploading mistakes inevitable, but BEWARE if your assignment does not open on her end you will receive a zero! Prepare to have a grade based on HER ease of access, not your understanding of COMM.
Connie is a good person, but not a great teacher. Her tests are extremely difficult. She words her questions so you can't understand clearly. She assigns a lot of group projects. She's not really willing to help out if you need it. I emailed her a few times and never got a response.
If you can take communication classes with another professor please do. She is a funny person, but that doesn't help with our education right? Her tests are so confusing. It is a communications class so you will receive a lot of group projects but won't receive enough points for them. I would not want to take another class with her.
Took an online class. Hated every minute of it. Unclear expectations and assignments. Connie never replied to a single email.
Connie is a fun and interesting professor. This class does A LOT of group work, so be prepared to get to know your group and work together. Only two exams, open book. Skim the chapters and attend the class and you'll be fine. Be creative and have fun, and this course will be most enjoyable.
Overall, a good teacher. I took her for an online class and an in person class and got a B in both. She had a upbeat attitude and answered all ?'s. The only negative is that my grandpa was in hospice with 7 days to live so I missed ONE class to be with him and told her in advance, she still gave me zero points for the day and no excused absence.
Not worth taking this teacher. I thought you were suppose to learn when you pay for university classes. Instead she will make you read a bunch of useless information that will never useful in this life.
I have taken many COMM classes (online and in person) with Connie. She is one of my favorite professors. Her classes are very engaging with all of the group work and individual presentations that you do. Her tests can be a little rough, however, they are open note and book. Fairly easy grader on presentations. She grades harder on online classes
This class is okay. The teacher is nice and does stay after class to talk. I had trouble keeping up with the Tab assignments though so follow closely the syllabus. You will have to team up as well for group projects. Keep track of those powerpoints she gives too and read the book. It will take a while for her to grade the assignments so be patient.
Took an online class with her as well as an in person one. She is always wiling to answer questions after class is over. Only draw back is she really doesn't allow for any excused absences which i think is wrong. Life happens and if you aren't missing class every week, one or two absences should be allowed. You get 10 points for showing up.
Connie teaches this class super well and really sets you up to succeed! It's an easy A and I really enjoyed it :)
I just took this professor for the summer semester and I just did not enjoy her. She is a tough grader and her exams are weird. Had an open-notes and book exam, but made us use a lockdown browser so for those of us who had an online textbook, well we were SOL. I wouldn't take her class...
Connie is super sweet and really cares about her students. She is a fairly easy grader as long as the requirements are met for an assignment. Each class has group work and group assignments mixed in but they add to the content of the lecture. She's always available for questions and is very willing to help her students.
very unorganized
awful communication which is really ironic considering her "profession"
Misunderstand something? She doesn't care at all. She's a nice woman but incredibly old fashioned and frustrating.
Worst professor Ive had here. Awful grader and doesnt give you clear feedback. Wants everything super specific but wont tell you how to do that. Talks to you like youre 5. If you have any form of anxiety DONT take this class, youll be graded on anxiety management. Wish I wouldnt have taken this. Biggest regret.
This is quite literally the worst prof Ive ever had. She grades so hard and doesnt give any clear feedback. She expects you to do homework over holiday/school breaks. Not to mention she doesnt care for any anxiety you have in the class, she expects you to just get over it. Literally take ANY other professor, youll regret having her.
I am a 4.0 student and I dropped this class. This professor grades extremely and unnecessarily hard. She does not give good reasoning for why she grades so difficult, and does not help you if you ask her to give you an example of how you could have done better. It is a communication theory class - it's not that deep...
This is for COMM 4201. She was the only teacher available and it was awful. It is very discussion board heavy and the responses are big lengthy posts. I know this is a senior class, but it sucked. She even gave me the wrong final grade and I am still waiting to hear about it being fixed. I am so glad this is the only class I had with her.
Almost every test question is random and she has never talked about what her test expects in class. Connie is a very nice lady but not an organized professor. Both times I have taken her class I have learned nothing becasue she talks about random things. Lecture heavy but gets off topic so easy.
The lectures seem a bit pointless, I learned more from just reading the textbook and watching videos on the theories than I did sitting in class. She isn't a bad professor by any means, she's very nice and caring, but a change needs to be made in how the theories are taught for there to be a purpose in being present.
she is super kind and motivated for her students to learn. however, I do not recommend taking two of her classes at the same time.
This was my second time taking one of her classes. After this, I'm done. Usually she grades easy, but out of the blue she may grade very strictly. I took her summer course and she assigned a long and very time consuming written "movie" final exam to be completed the last two days of the course. I'm surprised I got it done in time.
For a COMMUNICATION prof. this woman is probably one of the worst communicators I've ever encountered. She may be nice, but she's lazy and prone to padding her course content. There's mostly lists of jargon and very little guidance on group discussion. Watch out for contradictions, inconsistency, and arbitrary application of concepts.
She pretty much doesn't teach at all in class. Expect long presentations where she reads bullet points out loud without elaborating, and tests that have little relevance to the material covered in class.
Does not give clear instructions for assignment.
Connie may be a very nice woman, but is a horrible professor. She does not explain any of the theories in depth or go in to the specific of the big ideas or key concepts within each theory. Discussions are also extremely long, expect to spent up to 2+ hours on one discussion per week. And the exams are also extremely confusing.
I tried to like Prof. Blackmann but she just isn't a good professor. She's nice, but she isn't very understanding, has high expectations for complicated assignments, and doesn't teach theories well AT ALL (I learned more from the book). she expects you to know a lot when she doesn't even give definitions during lectures
Professor Blackmann gave really good online lectures that connected to the text. Assignments for the week were clear and consistent. The group project was a bit strenuous, considering this was an entirely online course. On that project, she could've stated expectations more clearly throughout the entire thing. Not a bad professor overall tho.
She's a fun person to be in the classroom with but her lectures are often too long and don't convey what they need to in order for you to be prepared for the tests/quizzes/projects.
Connie was great overall. If you are taking an in-person class your attendance is mandatory and worth a grade so don't miss any classes or you'll get a 0 for that class session. Only negative thing I would say is the do not relate to the study material of the class and they are mostly situational based so it is a lot of critical thinking.
Will assign substantial assignments, including group projects, on very short notice. Has little to no consideration for student's time. Grading is unreasonably harsh given the time frame allowed for assignments.
She leaves presentation prompts pretty open-ended, which leaves room for surprises when grades come back. She is not great with posting things on Canvas, so ask questions/email/refresh regularly. If taking the intensive, do not miss any assignments! This is an easy class but stay on top of deadlines and clarify grading criteria when possible.
Professor Blackmann has a lot of integrity and is very knowledgable about what she teaches in regard to communications. One thing to note is that attendance is extremely important in her courses, if you don't attend class, it will affect your grade. Course assignments allow for lots of creativity within your writing/presentations which is awesome.
Persuasion is one of the most boring classes I've ever taken, but it didn't need to be, professor Blackmann just seemed uninterested and removed for the whole semester. She barely teaches and instead relies on students to work in groups and teach each other. She picks your group and you're stuck with them for the whole year. Very disappointing.
She was super nice, but two things bugged me throughout the course. 1, she had so many typos in her assignments, saying assignments were due from a year from now making it confusing. 2, she is VERY particular with grading, always saying "what else did you think"? she will say your work was great but what else. seems like she never gives full credit
She is incredibly unprofessional, extremely unclear grading criteria, constantly changing deadlines last second compromising student success, setting students up for failure, untimely responses (if any at all) via email. Releases assignments by week- no way to work ahead. Very inconsiderate of her students. I would not recommend.
She is very laid back and cares about student success. I was extremely apprehensive about taking a 3 credit course over the span of 5 days but Connie Blackman made the class enjoyable, stress free, and engaging. With this course being an intensive course, she was understanding, forgiving, and not too harsh of a grader. Was extremely personable.
Formats the class in a disorganized fashion and then doesn't care when the students suffer because of it.
This was the worst professor I've had. You have to buy her textbook and use her definitions word-for-word. She doesn't communicate well with students despite teaching communication, and she doesn't respect students. There is no real support in this class. If you value fairness and respect, avoid taking her.
Mrs. Blackmann's lectures and quizzes are difficult, and her grading feels harsh. My main issue is her lack of communication and accountability. I once left class thinking it was fine, but she marked me absent until I messaged her. Even then, she only gave half credit and said I “should've done better,” despite giving no clear direction.
Easy A but you won't learn anything. She reads straight from the textbook, syllabus is confusing, and we wasted class time watching unrelated movies. Even shopped online during student presentations. Total lack of effort or respect for students.
We had some trouble ironing out dates, expectations, and how to meet those expectations as students. Grading was vague, feedback was also.
Connie's COMM 2030 class is on the low end of learning. The content and presentation are hard to follow, showing low comprehension from students. The final group project felt like students taught themselves. Classmates agreed the content was not meaningful. Connie is fun outside class, but not recommended if you want to be pushed and learn.
She cares about students getting the credits they need. I was afraid to take a 3 credit course over 5 days but it ended up being a lot of discussion and truly enjoyable. Super nice lady. Should come down on rude students who talk over her in class, some guys in the class disrespect her and it is infuriating. Sexism is still alive and well.
refused to be flexible about deadlines even with strenuous circumstances. Had 2 exams due in 1 week during midterm. Read off of slides and was not very engaging.
