He throws a lot of work at his students but every last ounce of it is worth it.
Tough, but it pays off come exam time
hard, but has sexy voice!
bmd3k says Conrad is God!
Very loud, scary, but good.
I'm with BMD3K Conrad is amazing and should get multiple awards
tough, but you learn...
Very articulate and clear spoken. Encourages a strong, dedicated work ethic.
The best prof in the world!!
Good, solid, dedicated teacher. Never loses sight of the students.
This coursed sucked, but Hewitt is wicked. He is funny and intelligent.
tough but fair! won't let you not pay attention in class

Cool prof!
Awesome Prof! Even after 4 years he still remembers me.
Loud and good at explaining
Bad teaching, didn't understand much of lectures, made me switch out of SJU
To say the least, an outstanding professor and extremely helpful
Something is fishy.
You won't find a better, nicer prof than Conrad!
You speak too loud, here's the game...
Very eccentric and enthusiastic. Very helpful!
"And then you put these vectors in a bag", Best instructor of my life.
Now here is the game...

Clear, but too forceful in teaching
Best prof i have had, makes everything easy to understand
choose your favourite variable....BEST PROF EVER!

So loud its impossible to fall asleep in his class. He'll die for his SJU kids!
Will kick you in the head if you slack off, but will always help. AWESOME PROF!!
AWESOME teacher...good speaker, excellent explanations
Amazing, very concerned and helpful, but won't stand for b.s
Good Prof, but to high level for me. Funny brit accent. Have a cup of tea.......
This man is extremely dedicated, and he should be a role model for all teachers
Great guy, everything is understandble, no question too stupid :)
Wish I hadhim in allcourses.Makes youwork hard, which makes you understand better
Great prof, keeps your attention by yelling during lectures to emphasize points.
the yelling should stop, otherwise, dedicated, good explanations
Awesome and funny Prof

he's the best prof I've ever had by far
Good prof.
Amazing teacher, but sometimes spends too much time on trivial details.
Amazing guy, don't skip classes and say something if you have problems he helps
I bombed my final, but I still think he's the BEST. That's how good he is!!
take this course just to hear him say Gauss-Jordan
Very loud. Excellent individual help when required.
I don't need to be yelled at or talked down to, and I didnt' learn anything
Extremely well organized, really helpful. I loved every one of his classes.
Clear and helpful. Will go out of his way to help his students.
Excellent prof . Extremely fair in setting tests. A lot of assignments though
Great prof!
Somewhat abrasive personality, speaks too loudly to the point of a bellow / yell
Teaching was clear and concise. Makes abstract concepts easy to understand.
Gets excited about his lectures to the point that it is distracting, but a nice guy
Really really loud. Watch his writing though, I get his u's and v's mixed up. Lovely accent. =)
Conrad's a demanding teacher, but if you can keep up with him, youll definitely succeed!
I had a problem with his personality at first, but he really is a great prof. He'll spend hours helping a single student if necessary.
Great prof. Exams contain bonus questions so that the extra points you gain there can compensate what you've lost in other questions.
The absolute BEST! Made Linear Algebra soo much more interesting...
This professor is just great. I have him for a few math courses. He really knows his stuffs and he teaches very well, too. Also he will spend countless hours to help you out :)
Overall great prof. Tough marker. Writes at the speed of light, and is obviously a genius. But if you're not in the mood for him, he can be a bit much.
He's alright. Easy Midterms, but a tought exam, so watch out.
Likes to get to know his students on a personal level. He's a great guy, but his writing/notes tend to be a little unorganized. Don't sit in the front row if you care about your hearing!! Fairly easy class for the math faculty.
He repeated the course material so many times it's not funny... it caused us to lag behind other sections
I think he only did so since they changed the course around. Otherwise, I thought he was very clear and concise in his lectures. I definitely recommend him!
one of the best university profs i have ever had.
Go St. Jerome's! It's a superdy-duperty-duperty statement and a super bag! Expect a lot of weird analogies. Best teacher ever, except I think I was the only one who thought so in my class. Maybe it was becuase they didn't enjoy the class or material as a whole. 300 here i come. oh 20 more characters
This guy really knows his stuff well. He made Linear Algebra 2 and Multivariable Calculus seem pretty straight forward. The explanations and examples he gave in class were very approachable and well explained. Just watch out for his handwriting, since his u's and v's look very similar.
Fast talker, fast writer, but gradually lags behind other sections (and delays assignments). Very clear, gives proofs in a very concise manner. Easy to understand and entertaining to watch.
He's Awesome! Go SJU and I love superdy-duperdy-duperdy statements they rule. Go to class, trust me! If you like your hearing don't sit in the front rows. And finally when your doing induction with him, "Let P(n) be the statement ..." he is very tough with definitions and proofs
I was failing the class, so I started going to his lectures. He is an amazing prof, clear, coherent and concise. During office hours extremely helpful for specific concepts and questions.
No word can describe him...HE IS THE BEST PROF EVER. his lectures are clear and easy to understand. really willing to help students. funny. the best thing is that he will have interview marking for midterms. Go to his lecture, you won't regrat for it.
Good prof...didn't like having my midterms marked while i was there watching him mark it. Insults you a lot when he does this (esp. with the proof questions lol don't take it personally :)) fair midterms, very difficult final!!
He seems a little bit intimidating in class because he goes really fast, but he's very patient and great at explaining materials when you seek him for help. He'll break things into simpler terms for understanding.
crazy irish hippie, good prof, lame course.
Awesome prof!!! Probably the best at explaining concepts and took all of about 1 minute for him to explain anything that i had problems with. He is very clear and if he teaches you a way to do something, do it THAT way! I wish he taught every course i had and will ever have.
Cruel marking schemes, very picky on details. Has bad attitude towards students - rude and insulting. Doesn't give enough time for midterms. Is not very reliable for addressing marking errors.
very nice prof! he talks very fast but it is very clear and interesting to listen. his exams are ok and are similar to past exams. this course is interesting and much easier than math239.
Great prof, but showed up late to a lot of lectures
im in grad school and this prof truly inspired me, he's the best one i've ever had. really cares about his students.
The course itself is pretty hard. He did a great job trying to explain it, and was extremely helpful during office hours. The midterm wasn't too bad, but the assignments were pretty long and the final was BRUTAL.
great prof, great examples, clear lecture, has own style of teaching, but very good approach.
Damn, I want to be his. His voice! I may be dumb as hell, but I can still dream. Some day, he'll be mine...
Seriously I think this guy is the best prof in UW. Perfectly clear voice and explanations. He shows you a lot of little tricks to help you with those silly brute force calculation questions! Also, he is super smart. Most of the time he barely glances at his class notes and makes up examples on the fly. Do your work and you will do well.
Hands down the best prof I've ever had. Definitely not the easiest prof but you'll come away from the course learning something.
Difficult assignments and haphazard solutions. Seldom students can do his exams
Nice prof, but spends alot of calss time repeat last class's material and then behind on the lectures. You have to read the book before go to his class otherwise it's prety hard to understand the material. Overall his ok but much better then the other two but not as good as the course codinator.
He's ok. Sometimes he marks the assignemnts and very hard on the marking too, takes a lot of marks off for little mistackes and common on the assignment like "juck" makes you feel terriable about your ability to do any good on this course. Clear on explaining though, but so behind on lectures.
He's terrible! 3 lectures behind to catch up he's doing simple examples in calss that's not helpful for the assignments or midterms at all! Can't believe what he's thinking and didn't know what he did in class that makes it 3 lectures behind; I never used his lecture notes at all and ps he does not prepare before going to the class! he's the worst!
Never gives back the assignments! you won't know how are you doing untill the day before the exam! Terrible terrible prof. no praperations, non important examples wost I have ever met!
Awesome professor!!! Clear voice and clear explanation on every single topic and taught little tricks to solve math questions. Make sure you attend his lectures and he will sometimes joke too!!!
He can teach a dog how to do induction!!!!
In-responsible; never gives back the assignments, end of the term he asks you for your assignment marks. Very hard on marking midterms (yes, he marks the midterms); don't even think about getting 2-3 marks by talking to him.
Un-organized, spends long time on one example because he did the calculation wrong, because he didn't prepare the notes and he talks about what he did in last class for too long. He's the only class who's behind on lectures. Useless examples for exams.
A handsome man with a handsome beard.
Good professor, except he yells his lecture at you. I'm not joking, its like he's screaming throughout. Also, if you answer a question wrong, he will usually unintentionally demean you in front of the class.
he explains well, but his asms&tests are a bit hard, especially the final.he curves the marks though. helpful during OH, but for some reason i feel that he has racial discrimination. I had a 5-minute question and he made me wait for 45 minutes while he talked about sports with previous student. I was standing right in front of him for 45 min!
Fantastic prof. Very interesting and engaging. His explanations are both funny and clear. His accent is great, which means you'll remember everything he says from all the impressions of him you and your classmates will attempt of him. Highly, highly recommended if you have the opportunity.
Best Teacher Ever - he makes me want to learn about DE's, take him if you can!!!
Passionate, knowledgeable, direct and helpful, yet frequently late to class and late to finish class. He's taught linear algebra for decades and knows the subject inside-out. His lectures include rigorous proof as well as tons of computational examples and tricks. He also spends much extra time with students outside the classroom. An awesome prof.
Great Prof! Take him if you can. Made learning DE's interesting and he has a awesome accent.
Nice man. Very confusing material.
Very dedicated but does not follow main campus closely, falls behind in his lectures. He is extremely passionate but his lectures have become very hard to focus on.
He defiantly loves what he does and is super passionate, but after spending a few semesters with him.I feel he may be starting to loose it, a little bit. His sanity second semester compared to first was decreased. He gets caught up in what he wants you to learn and not what the course is on.
Very helpful, passionate about what he is teaching. One of the best profs I had in Waterloo.
great prof. always trying to help out the students.
Very helpful and clear with his explanations. Would have been nice if he had been more involved with creating the assignments and exams, as the course coordinator was terrible.
Very passionate about teaching calculus. Knows the material very well but because he does he assumes a lot of things that many students don't know and skips the important details (which is where the textbook comes in). Goes pretty fast and is a bit all over the place but he is friendly and helpful when you need him.
I love his accent. He pronounce 'H' as "hay-ch". He explains extremely well as if we are from elementary school. The only problem he has is he goes a bit slow at the beginning and rushes at the end. He also takes his own time to offer extra tutorial at night to help us. His writing on the board is a little messy too. He is a very nice professor.
Amazing Prof! His examples in class were really good and detailed, and his notes were very comprehensive. He went really fast in class though so it was sometimes hard to keep up with his fast writing and even faster talking.
its a pretty hard course, and the prof makes it harder. I've done some of the past exams from Joe West, but prof. Hewitt's exams are much harder. im not even sure if im gonna pass the course
Didn't attend a single lecture. Assignments were quite doable. Midterm was a bit tough. Final was fair, a tad bit long but not bad. Course notes are helpful and quite good! Interesting material too.
He's honestly a good prof. Downside is that he's very old school and often doesn't set an appropriate difficulty level. If he's teaching a course that's not his specialty, he makes it relatively easy. But if it's something he does everyday (e.g. AMATH 231), look out. It will be brutal. Great lectures, helpful, just sets the bar too high.
He followed the course notes, though deviated from them on a fairly regular basis. Following the course notes was easier than following his lectures, though reading the notes ahead of time would probably make the lectures a lot better. Midterm/final were very long, and all material was covered in vast detail. Does not give high marks. Decent prof.
the best prof in UW
This prof is awesome! He is well-organized, clear and helpful. I had STAT 230 with him, he made this course very interesting!
Great professor!! His lectures are interesting and cover material clearly and concise.
exams are fair, but tough - very enthusiastic about the content, will not waste time, but will provide extra examples anytime you ask; if you need better explanations, he will always encourage you to go to office hours, and tutorials are helpful with the assignments
best prof at UW!
He knows when do we get confused and also know exactly how to help us. Exams and assignments are fair, tutorial is helpful.
He is the best
The course contents are boring, but he always tells some interesting jokes during lectures. Midterms and finals are relatively fair if you attend his lectures and keep doing the lecture notes questions and assignment questions.
He is crystal clear on the content. He is the most responsible and helpful prof I have ever seen so far. He holds a lot of problem sessions that other profs normally do not. He speaks sorta quick on class and sometimes his hand-writing can be a little confusing. Nevertheless, he is a great prof and is always there to help you out.
He is the most helpful and responsible prof I've ever seen so far. He holds extra occasional problem sessions that other profs don't normally do to help students understand materials better. His England accent is kinda funny and he is well-dressed all the time. Would like to take more classes with him.
The Best Prof in UW, i would like to take all his class! He always holds problem session which is really helpful and his lecture is well prepared.
Most amazing Calculus prof. ever. I would love to take him as my Calculus prof. for my future courses.
I have a difficult time understanding Hewitt's accent, although funny, and his writing on the boards. He uses yellow chalk to write and most of the times, with his incomprehensible handwriting, it is extremely hard to copy down. The Math 137 Mid term for Fall 2014 was written by him, and it was a bit challenging compared to previous midterms.
The most amazing math professor I have ever had, a truly inspirational and passionate professor who enjoys teaching and explaining math, and most importantly, who genuinely loves mathematics. Dr. Conrad, you have my respect.
Was a great prof, always ready to help, and always entertaining
OMG! It's just hard!!!!
He explained stuff clearly. But the chalkboard note is difficult to read, so make sure understand the stuff first.
explains everything in detail, very clear
His notes are fairly difficult to understand and follow because he jumps from board to board. He also doesn't wait for people to understand what he's teaching so write everything down and then review the notes / try to understand them after class. I did not enjoy his classes because his scattered method of teaching stressed me out.
I love Conrad. He's so enthusiastic about the material, you can't help but get into it as well. He moves really fast though. Don't even think about daydreaming for even a minute or he's two chalkboards ahead already.
An amazing professor, classes are interesting, explain things clearly
He was very engaging in lectures and super helpful during office hours (though somewhat intimidating at first because he speaks very loudly). He's really dedicated to helping students understand the course. His lectures were a bit confusing though because he has a strong English accent and jumped around the blackboards a lot.
His lectures and office hours are great. You'll get roasted while trying to ask questions but it's worth it. He does care about his students learning the material and puts a lot of effort into teaching. Overall, one of the best profs I've had. For us the assignments were tough but the exams were straightforward.
very unclear.. And cannot read his writing
He's good, I will definitely recommend him to anyone.
Honestly, Con has been the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Every single one of his lectures is a blessing, he is simply THE most intellectual and caring person that has ever graced my ears and eyes, and I would love to have him in every single one of my classes. If you think what he teaches is confusing, you are just dumb.
I found him hard to understand at first, but later I began to love his lectures. He is a great professor, passionate and humorous. If you go to his lecture every time, the assignments and the tests will be easy for you. But make sure you get the middle front seat since sometimes his handwriting is unclear.
Conrad's pretty good. He really, really cares about his students, and does his best to prepare them for the course. He appears a bit scary at first, but if you go to office hours he's really one of the nicest profs you'll ever meet. Conrad definitely saw me through the mess that was the 137 redesign this year.
Absolute legend. He is very intimidating but will always be glad to answer your question (with sass of course, get used to it in his lectures). The course will be the hardest thing you ever did, but you will know your goddamn calculus when you're done.
When he says the Exams cover it all, he truly means all of it, even the little extras that aren't in the text.
One of the best profs I've had by far - hands down. He is super enthusiastic about the material and clearly explains stuff during the lectures, and is very easily accessible outside class as well. Make sure to attend all his lectures, and do the assignments.
Very clear in explaining concepts. Responds to questions with a bit of sass, and may seem intimidating at first, but cares alot about his students and is always open for questions/office hours. Assignments prepare you well for the midterm/final (which were very fair). Very kind man, passionate about what he does, and most hilarious prof I've had!
Amazing teaching style and genuinely cares about the students.
Inane pointlessly stupid marking schemes
Dr. Conrad Hewitt is a great teacher and hilarious lecturer. He is the undisputed god-king of Linear Algebra.
I cannot believe how RUDE this professor was. You cannot ask a simple question without getting sassed and a half-assed answer. There were 33 assignments (3/week) and 3 major tests. It was harder to manage than any class ive taken before.
The entire MATH136 online experience is awful. Maybe it's better in person but online, the professors are rude and unhelpful, TA's rarely respond and the profs do nothing about it. They would rather spend time looking for cheaters on chegg than make proper useful learning tools.
The worst prof/teacher I've ever encountered. Every interaction was either dismissive or snarky. Puts more effort into criticizing students and blaming all of them for "cheating" rather than stepping up to actually give useful assignment feedback. I regret not switching sections earlier. Only reason I have the mark I do is because 3Blue1Brown
This dude is literally so pretentious. He takes offence to students asking questions, and his lectures are terrible, and the answers he gives to questions on piazza are terrible and uninformative. His personality is just the worst of all he has such a snobby attitude. Would not recommend this guy.
It was a privilege to be in Prof Hewitt's class. He is the best teacher I had in Waterloo. He was difficult but dammit does this man know how to teach. I wish I could take his class again, he really is fantastic. The accent, the suit, the demeanor, the knowledge of everything from Control Systems to General Relativity; this guy's the full package!
Very tough professor. For a second-year algebra course, his attention is still on vector notation instead of some technics for solving problems. Also the strange rule for the final, that if you didn't get 50 for final, your final mark would be your course grade. This is how I fail the course.
