Excellent teacher, but you do have to do the work. Keeps class pretty interesting.
ugh not a great teacher. isnt engaging or interactive with the students much. the most boring and useless class i've had.
not a good teacher, when it comes to opinions it her way or the highway so you better right a paper that she agrees with
This teacher is the most bias teacher I have ever had. If you don't share her views, you're screwed. All of her essay prompts deal with minority issues and racism. And she plays favorites with students that suck up to her.
Expects students to ask a lot of questions. Participation in discussions is a must. Interesting readings on controversial topics.
Great and Enthusiastic
I think Carter's awesome, I felt she was very open-minded and fair.
Great teacher...interesting...i enjoy going to class
Loved Carter's class! She's very fair and interesting, and appreciates alternative points of view. Class is structured around exploring identity, really fun. Eng 300 is comp class: expect lots of papers, revisions, and workshops. Discussions are fun, but be sure to participate. Great class!
She's a good teacher. You have to do all your work including blackboard discussions. She talks a lot but it makes class go by fast. She doesn't pick on you so that good. I would recommend her. Oh she grades hard though.
Boring. The blackboard discussions and essays were boring. I just didn't enjoy the class at all.
She was an AWESOME teacher ... I have always hated English but she made it fun .. I actually liked the writing assignments! She told great personal stories too! AWESOME!
The bestest teacher ever!!!! I think she is easy, except for the grammar quizes. I have bad grammer. She talks about her self and her life alot. But she makes the class very interesting.
class was kind of boring to me, alot of small essays like 1-2 pages, easy topics, she is very helpful tho, we have alot of group work, shes not very interesting but she is not boring.. she has a good personality, final was easy, i got a B, and i didnt do that well..i spent some effort in class
She is really boring and dry.
Professor Carter is a good teacher. She is more than willing to help any student with their writing assignments. If English class is not your thing...then try someone else, because you will have to work.

she wasn't approachable and really made me hate going to english class
she is a great professor but if you're not willing to go the extra mile to get your format paper right...then don't take her class.she was clear on her assignments but very picky with the essay or journal fomatting...she measure your paper with a ruler while grading your paper. Her grading system is very tough/hard...she grade every little things...
funny and cool teacher
this prof is not recommended to take. She is very hard, and she does not help us improve in our paper. All she does is talk and talk, but hardly explain anything. Her grading is srtictly hard.
Worst professor ever! she is not helpful or approachable when you have a question, her topics for essays are boring and pointless, the work itself is easy but going to class everyday will be difficult and boring. she is anal about format and talks for days! she also gets side tracked and judges people quickly...i learned nothing! take someone else!
She is theWORST!!!!!
Don't even think about it!!! Take anyone BUT Carter! She's boring and she's the toughest grader I've ever met..
I thought she was nice and funny and approachable.. Her topics are normal.. she will try her best to explain everything. she lets you redo some testes.. gives out extra credit.. She is reccomendable..
In my experiences, Professor Carter was one of the better teachers for the higher level English courses (ENGWR302). She tended to be a bit hard to contact and could get off topic easily, but is very in-depth and intellectual.
she's cool
Carter is an okay professor. She can be a pretty tough grader, but she is very nice and approachable. She is very reasonable, especially when you have something like a vacation coming up. She does get off topic easily, but its an okay class, a little boring not bad though.
She's pretty good. It is my second time taking this class. I had Sneed before and I like Carter better.
Carter is just an overall GREAT english teacher. She is easy to understand and gives out extra credit you can earn by attending school events. She grades reasonably but does get off topic very easily. The homework is light and gives out very few tests.
I really enjoyed Carter! She expects proficiency but provides the necessary tools to obtain it. You rock Carter; I wish you were teaching 300:)!
Prof. Carter is a wonderful instructer, i really enjoyed her class. She does tend to get off topic sometime but i liked it so thats a plus, it was never for to long. Shes a fair grader, the work isint to hard. I had fun in her class. Shes xcellent.
HORRIBLE!!! Her #1 problem: Gets off topic every few minutes! what a distraction! I learn more about her fears of spider than about writing arguments!!! She's always late too. She expects you to know the material for her quizzes but she hardly goes over anything in class because she's too busy talking about herself and getting off topic!!!
shes a nice teacher. the class itself is really boring but its actually better when she gets off topic. the quizzes arent bad but you have to do the reading/take the notes to do good. shes totally approachable so i dont know what people are talking about.. the class overall is okay.
She gets off topic. It is not entertaining, people often find it hard not to fall asleep. She's a strict grader. Most have been disappointed in their grades. And she does not explain what she wants from you. Her homework essays are given directly from the book and are as dull as her lectures. I would not recommend taking her course.
I loved this teacher. She made writing fun and inspirational for me. Very supportive.
She is a very nice teacher. She can be hard, but you need a teacher like her to learn. I got a C and i'm happy...those that aren't lazy should take her.
Carter is a great teacher, who is funny and out going. She is a hard grader because she wants everyone to be prepared to transfer. She is not an English Natzi!! If you want to LEARN English, then you should take her class.
HORRIBLE teacher. Off subject ALL the time. Doesn't grade with a rubric. Grades really hard. Assigns WAY too much work, more than any other ENG 302 class. REALLY hard... DON'T take her!
i STRONGLY DISCOURAGE taking carter for engwr302! she is very unhelpful, picky, judgemental and unavailable for her students. we spent an entire semester listening to her stories and opinions on just about everything! don't take her!
Dumb teacher. Do not take. Goes off topic constantly.
She sould quit teaching, and find something else to do because she doesn't even know what does mean TEACHING. In the entire class she tells stupid stories about drinking champagne. She should go to a psyachiatric clinic or something. I was getting a B, but I dropped the class because she is so boring.
I do not recommend this professor! She goes off topic way too much! Her class is extremely boring because she's always talking about herself! I really like english and I'm even an english tutor, but she made me hate going to her class! I would try to get help from her during her office hours, but she was not helpful. I ended up with a C!
This is the worst teacher I've ever had. Her grading system is inconsistent and her explanations make no sense. She must have bought her credentials because I can't believe how stupid she is.
She's not the kind of person that should still be teaching. She will pick apart your paper if she doesn't like your topic. You won't learn anything unless you teach it to yourself. If you do take this class you'll get a great insight to her life because thats what most of the class consists of.
Gets off subject easily...when you have a quiz the next day. Strong liberal bias and very close minded. Much more passionate about politics than English. Very hard grader. Unapproachable initially but much nicer later on. I dont suggest her but if you get stuck with her she gets better. Put in a lot of work because she does not teach and grades har
I can't say she's the worst teacher I've had, sad to say I've had worst. She is very easily taken of topic, her lectures are latent with her liberal agenda. But her grading is very easy, no complaints there. Her tests/quizzes are some what of a pain everything is strictly from the book. To pass this class you must study the textbook. A descent gra
This is the worst teacher by far. She is Bias, closed minded, and grandiose. I failed as a student, because she failed as my teacher. All I learned in the class was her personal life and her opinion on race and religion, and politics. I am glad she failed me because I will take the class again and hopefully learn something.
Before taking this class I wasn't sure of my english writing skills. Today, I am confident I can do well when given help. Professor Carter was very helpful and always available on time during her office hours. The stories she told is what kept me awake in class.
She is very interesting person to talk with and listen too. She has very interesting life, talks about her traveling to Europe and other contries. Fills like it is more easier to write book about her. She is not very objective on assigments, very hard grader. If you want to get better grade in the English 101 take onother professor. NOT HER!
This teacher uses her personal life to give examples in class and most of the time, she goes over board. She starts talking about her life that isn't related to our topic. If I were to grade her as a teacher, I would give her an F.
Prof. Carter is a good teacher. I took her class hearing bad things, but the class wasn't as bad as people say it is. She may go off topic a bit, but she's interesting to listen to. If you do the work and try you enjoy the class. Carter is great.
She grades on what you write not how you write it.If you do not agree with her stance on issues she will give you a low grade. I have ALWAYS received As in English until her. Don't take her class if you want to get an A. I took the same class with another prof class and had a different book and got an A. Find another teacher.
This teacher is actually bad. I didn't learn anything in her class. I think the way she grades is if she likes the student's paper, she'll give him/her a good grade, but if she doesn't like the paper, she'll give him/her an F. I don't think she has a guideline on how to correct papers. So, don't waste your time taking her class.
OK teacher, but tends to get off topic quite often. Always tells us to bring a book to class but we never use it. Annoying. Main topic is about arguments so it shouldn't be terribly hard. What I liked about the class is that there's no novels to read, which is a plus. Quizzies are hard unless you read, read, read. Teacher is always on time.
She is very strict and meticulous with her assignments. If you follow her directions or instructions you will be fine in her class. Good luck
She hasn't put in our grades yet and they were due a week ago. Lectures from the book which is pointless. Doesn't fully describe the essay assignments. Prefers to discuss her own life rather than teach. Has 2 "group projects" where YOU teach the class. Take another professor.
I am not even done with the class, but I can tell you that she is not a good TEACHER. She is a fun person, but be prepared to teach yourself everything on which you will be tested. I am a straight A student, but I'm struggling to hold a B in her class. There is no point in being punctual, because the 1st 30 minutes are spent debating aimlessly.
Professor Carter is a horrible teacher. I havent learned one thing in her class! She goes on and on about her life and the only "teaching" she does is going over the online quizzes (there are many). Going to class is useless, all you need is the book. I do NOT recommend her at all.
I definitely would not recommend Carter. The time she spends talking about things irrelevant to the course (e.g. her Facebook wall) is unbelievable. Coming to her class always felt like a waste of time. However, her assignments/grading are reasonable, but only if you already have good writing skills, because she doesn't do a lot of actual teaching.
I like her. I like the topic choices for our papers. Does steer off topic a bit but it doesn't bother me. Pretty good teacher & pretty funny.
Professor Carter cares about her work, and it shows by the class discussions about novels and such. Many people complain that she talks about irrelevant topics, yet most of what she talks about has a connection to what the class topic is. Good Teacher, entertaining person!
Do NOT take her class! You will regret it! 1)She does not teach and rambles in class.2)She does not take attendance but says it is part of your grade 3)She does not follow her own syllabus.4)She is very disorganized and will give back essays at least 2 months later if ever. 5)She does not grade anything she has to until the semester ends.
her class was horrible.she talked about irrelevant topics all the time.the journals only graded upon the format. she was hardly use the textbooks. she was not taking attendence but it was 5% of your total. most important she is so late to give back your essays and other things. don't ever take her class or you will regret it
The first few class meetings with her were a joy because she seemed friendly and laid back. As the semester drags on, I waited for her to get serious and focused onto her teaching but no. Carter was easily distracted that she went off topics all the time. Her lecture notes are basically whatever written in your textbook. What a big disappointment!
You'll learn more if you go to the library and read the textbook versus actually attending class which was almost NEVER devoted to learning textbook material. If you want to pass a quiz or the midterm you'd better read the text on your own and take your own notes. Don't ask off topic questions because you will never get back on track. Stay away!!
If you want an easy A this is the class. Online quizzes based on text, easy, tests based on quizzes. Write "ok" papers to get an A, and show up to class. When I had her class it was literally, wait 5 min after class starts for her to get there, 5 min of schedule, 5-10 of actually doing something, then the rest of class is talking about her life.
I do not feel that she is biased though. I am white and feel she graded me fairly, so dont think thatll happen to you. It's easy to see she has a big heart and wants to help her students. I don't think its her intentions to make anyone feel bad, just aware. Overall she is fair. Take her class cause no other class will give ya a chance to
Not a good teacher. In the bigenning of the semester i thought she was fun and interesting but now i feel like im not learning anything! she talks about her life in every lecture, wasted time , quiz are weekely and on D2L but she will not teach what you need to know for the quiz. Im relying on the book and googleyoutube to actually learn something
Spent too much time discussing personal life.. Should trade in the time while doing so- clarifying what she expects from her students. Don't take her class, there will always be a handful of better educators just around corner.
It's a tough class with a tough teacher. That doesn't necessarily make her a bad teacher. Things Prof. Carter can really improve on is better use of class time (I'd rather be home than hear her go on about her personal stories, though some are really interesting). Another thing is her return time on graded assignments.
Even though she is a great teacher and she will be there to answer any questions you have, she is tough grader when it comes to the papers. You are assigned to get 2 books and they are your life for that class. One is a reference to how to write papers, you will love it for when you type them. She is helpful and hilarious. fun class but work needed
If you have to take this professor save your educational mental compassity. Spends a lot of time talking about herself, you don't need to buy that expensive text book everything that's in lecture is on the web. Does not follow syllubus material will be thrown out by the end of the semester. A very hard grader on papers, won't ever get out early
Do not take this professor at any cost. Always goes of topic and it is not a good thing. There is no in class preparation for weekly quizzes because she goes so off topic that nothing gets done and ultimately leads you to failure. Never expect anything to be graded on time as she is always behind and late to class most days. TOUGH GRADER.
Do not take this professor most of class is either talking about her life or other topics that have nothing to do with the class. Didn't really learn much everything you learn is out of the book, she always returns papers late last two papers were graded after we already took the final, also she is a very tough grader.
Professor Carter, I don't know why they had a bunch of bad reviews for this professor, I actually liked coming to her class and everyone knows that. Even though she does tell a bunch of life stories and lessons, they can be related to what we are talking about. I am not a writer and she knows that but she is there to help you if you are willing to.
Professor Carter is a nice respectful teacher. She is willing to help students.
She is an okay professor, but she grades too slow. Got the first paper graded, but the second paper was done like two months ago and still has not graded it.
She is a hard grader, also she waits until the end of the semester to put in your homework and grades so you dont have time to fix mistakes, she is very anal and i wouldnt take her again. To be a english writing 101 she goes off track too much and doesnt explain the assignment good enough.
She spent at least half of every class talking about her personal life, and wasted so much of our time. She assigns reading every day, but I didn't end up reading half of it because we never got around to discussing it in class, (again, she goes on way too many tangents). Two essays, a midterm, a final, and very few other homework assignments.
Professor Carter talks so much about polarizing ideas. We barely do any writing; rather, we talk more about liberal ideals. She goes off-topic every time someone tells her a story, and is very harsh if anyone has opposing views. Her schedule took 6 weeks after the beginning of the semester to complete, and she's super disorganized.
You could have written a beautiful piece of work and get a whole zero on an assignment if it wasnt perfectly formatted. She spent majority of the class time talking about her life which wasnt what the class was about.
I took Professor Carter for both ENGLT 320 and 321. There were only 2-3 essays per semester and no nightly assignments besides reading the textbook. As many others point out, she goes off-topic A LOT. At first, it was nice to have our essays delayed being assigned but it got old quickly when we were 5 weeks behind the syllabus. SLOW GRADER!!!!!!!!
She often gets off topic during class its so annoying! tough grader. and will not update your grades. so you wont even know your final grades until after weeks after finals i will never take her again!
We went off topic a lot and wouldn't start learning until halfway through the class time. She was nice but I didn't learn much. I was still able to get high grades on the papers and final, though. The textbook is mandatory and pretty expensive, but I was able to rent it for much cheaper. She was pretty chill but I wanted to learn a bit more.
Went off topic a lot and is a very slow grader.
Grades very slow, so you don't know your grade until the class is over. This can cause you to fail the class if you're unlucky.
Talks about her life at home most of the time. Never graded anything on time so I didn't know my grade until final grades came out. Papers are basically graded by pears. I'm not sure how we were supposed to grow when we only got feedback from pears. Makes you turn in papers just to make sure you did something. Made us buy a workbook we NEVER used.
She took really long to grade everything. I had her last semester and 2 months later, she is still grading our papers. Very slow and gets off topic.
Slow grader, she is a good person, but some times she's off task. I took her class in the Fall of 2019 and still hasn't put in a final grade. Your just going to have to pray on passing this class. You're basically graded by your essays and a final project IF SHE EVEN GRADES THEM! Super disappointed!
Took super long to grade everything. It has been a whole semester since i completed her class and she still has not finished grading. My grade is marked as incomplete even though I did all of the assignments and work.
I have her online over zoom for the pandemic. She's a good person and she's very nice, but like the other ratings say, the amount she goes off topic is next level. It's to the point where it's detrimental to learning. The semester has 1 month left and i have no idea what my grade is. she doesn't give feedback AT ALL.
Constance is an awesome and caring professor! She does talk a lot and may get a bit off topic but most of time what she talks about is related to the subject in which we are learning. She's very understanding as well. The 3 papers we had were easy and very relatable. No tests only the final. Loved this class.
Professor doesn't grade anything. We only have a few assignments for the entire semester, didn't grade any of them. Goes on personal tangents and wastes time. Talks about how she has concentration issues and is dyslexic. Have written three papers and none have been graded by the end of the semester.
Very little assignments: 3 papers, 3 short journal/discussion entries, 1 15 point mc final. Zoom meetings twice a week for class discussions, mostly listening to her talk the whole time. Very laid back class. Only downside is that she doesnt grade until last minute. Do what youre supposed to do, participate, and read the book to be successful.
Very nice professor but goes off topic MULTIPLE times. We have done three papers but none have been graded yet!!
Horrible. She gets too distracted, too off topic, hasn't graded anything since September even though the semester ended 3 weeks ago in December. She does not answer emails and is very rude when she does. She is also not understanding of the fact that we have other things besides school going on right now. She gives no feedback and you don't learn.
Zoom calls were waste of time as she always rambled off topic, showed up to class late or didn't show up at all. Happened 4-5 times last semester and also does not grade work till WEEKS after the semester has ended but expects you to know what you need to improve on. Did all assignments accordingly yet still got a bad grade. 10/10 don't recommend.
First and worst! Professor Carter's Eng300 was my very first college course. She was never on topic, slow to return work, and gave such negative feedback on all my work that I struggled with writing for years. I dropped Eng300 3 more times after her class due to anxiety. (I finally passed. My fantastic professor saved my assignments as examples!)
Spends up to months giving out grades for the semester and gave no time to allow improvement on what was needed to be corrected on. Super difficult to communicate with, especially with doing class all online.
Prof Carter is a really good professor. She may be behind on grading sometimes, so it is not likely you will have feedback on papers before they are due. Though, she is really understanding on your circumstances if anything happens. She also doesn't give much homework and if she does then she tells your way in advance. Would take again.
I took Professor Carter's class in Fall 2020, so we met on Zoom. We'd spend about 20 mins each class talking about politics (fyi I took the class around the time of the 2020 election, but politics during english class? why-?). She was always off topic, showed up late a few times, and VERY BEHIND W/ GRADES (graded after semester was over!).
Took her a year ago, she NOW just graded two things. You would think she'd be easier with grading knowing that she made us wait this long. But no, she has the nerve to grade hard and nitpick at little things (that could have been avoided if she had just graded things on time and gave us feedback...) Ignores emails from students. Don't take her
I really wanted to like this professor as this was my first English class in college but believe me when I say that you NEED to find another instructor. She is ALWAYS late and ALWAYS off topic. I get more insight just by reading the textbook as every lecture just feels like a monumental waste of time. Please don't make the same mistake.
I personally enjoyed Professor Carter as a person. She is funny and understanding. However she does take a while to grade, is hard to reach through email, and there have been moments where she was late or didn't show up due to outside circumstances.
SLOWEST GRADER! I haven't gotten my grade yet and it is already semester 2. If you take her good luck on getting your requirement complete, cause she will turn your grade in very late which unable you to take any advanced classes. I WON'T recommended taking her if you care a lot about your grade
Prof. Carter failed to grade anything throughout the semester, and she has yet to publish grades from the last semester. She had a tendency to go off on unrelated rants, show up late, and cancel class without warning. If you plan on taking several writing classes, don't take her because there's no guarantee you'll get your grade in time to enroll
Finished. the class in December and finally got my grade in April. Although I got an a I did not get feedback in any of the 3 papers we wrote. Did not learn anything the whole semester. She would constantly be late to class and goes off on rants every class. If you want to learn I suggest not taking her.
