if you haven't been in every single country of the world, don't take her. She has been to a lot of places, and she'll tell you that all the time. But she knows the material she teaches very well, and makes it interesting. Will have to do a lot of reading.
Dr.Moffatt is tough but thorough! If you think you can slack in this class you are sadly mistaken. She is wonderful, inspiring and motivates students to excel. Very helpful and fair in every aspect. She requires a lot of reading-overall I learned a lot!
She does a good job teaching a very hard class. Unless you are a artsy person with an excellant memory, don't take Art 103
She really expects a lot. You have to memorize a million things, but other than that she's a really good teacher. Pretty interesting lectures. If you're lazy and don't want to memorize and read a lot don't take this class.
She moves too quickly and doesn't go into enough details. Rambles way too much and loses momentum. Distraction.
she knows her stuff very well expects alot and wants you to memorize alot and know alot. Her tests are very hard unless you are ready to work hard do not take this class.
i hated this stupid class! she doesnt give a crap about helping you understand the material. it bored me to death and the tests were hard!
A great art professor. She knows more than I thought someone could know about art. There is A LOT of information in her class so be ready to review a lot to yourself
One of the most amazing teachers I have had at Pierce. Incredibly knowledgable about her field. Granted, this class takes work guys. But if you're interested in Art History you should without a doubt take the course.

Extermley hard class! I think she really tries to make art hist. as difficult as math or science. Do not take her if ur looking for an easy elective, you'll burn with regret!!
This class is to hard for the subject. She expects you to memorize a million things. If your looking for a class that will put you to sleep this is it, but don't expect to pass. I pretty much fell asleep or left early because i thought i was going to go crazy listening to her. She is a crazy B****.
Professor Moffat's class is very fun and interesting.
If you expect to breeze through this class, think again. She's tough but really knows her field. A lot to memorize, be prepared
Great teacher, She really knows a lot about art. She cares and really wants you to learn. As for help, obviously you have to ask,she stops during the class to ask if you have any questions about anything. If you're not interested in art, try her class when you have time and she'll get you interested
I got an A on every exam, but got a C in the class. Did not respond to my phone messages or e-mails as to the meaning of this.
CLASS IS OK BUT SHES KIND OF A **** NOT THAT HARD JUST NEED TO MEMORIZE THE PAINTINGS.
this professor grades hard. her lectures were unhelpful, boring, and meaningless. the whole point of the class is to memorize a million slides
sucks
sooooo boring
she is so hard!! she makes you memorize tons of slides! i do not recommend her! and she's so boring!!

lame ass class, sit for hours listening to her drag on and on over slides...makes u do some stupid group project, she thinks she is the ayatolla of art history, forget about this class
As a teacher she is great at this Subject. Unfortunately as a Person she needs a crash course at being Nice. Great Class if you are actually interested in learning .
Cool teacher...not a fan of the group projects but other than that, read and memorize the slides and you should be okay. No homework assigned besides the project which is not that hard. Not bad
Great teacher, will be taking her class again in the Fall. Really opened my eyes to some great art - now I'm a fan. I have to admit I'm annoyed by the complaints of memorization - this is college, in college you memorize things. Get over it. Super helpful during office hours; will go over the group essay before it's due so you can fix it. She's A+!
Prof Moffat is good to go. She is very helpful and I didn't have any problems with her. But the subject itself is too much. If you are just trying to get exposed to art than don't take her; it feels like you are majoring in art when you are taking this class.
Yes professor Moffat expects you to learn a lot of things from one slide but judging from all these ratings, noone apreciates art.Prof. Moffat reawoke my inner artist and I thank her for that. Taking Art 101/102 gives you something good to know. That saying, art is not for flakes.
this teacher must be nuts. Don't recommend it, even though i like art hist, she expects you learn and memorize a zillion things about each and every painting that she shows you; teaching style is difficult; exams include reading many chapters+notes combined+slides. Are not cut and dry. She is not clear and concise; she also lectures off subjects!
She may not have the best attitude, but overall, she wasn't the worst teacher out there. Half the questions on the test came from lectures, and some came from book.I learned a lot by the end of the class.she really wasn't too difficult, but the question wording on her test sucked.Read carefully, and you'll pass. Also, highest grade in class is lowest A
Patient and pleasant. She did a great job showing the students the art and not just talking about it. I very much enjoyed her class.
She is not a bad teacher, but she needs to find methods to help her students memorize every piece. She expects you to memorize Way too many art pieces. She should also go more into the history of the time period instead of just showing slides.
Not an easy class. There's no way to get thru w/o paying attention, but if you do, she makes otherwise boring subject matter very interesting with stories and background info. I LIKE art now because of her. She's rough on lazy students, but not unreasonable. THE LADY KNOWS HER STUFF. So don't take her unless you're actually in it to learn.
Though there is a lot to memorize & learn,I really enjoyed the class. If you study & take good notes the tests & quizes aren't too difficult to get through. She really know the subject of art greatly & tries to have her students underdstand it's purpose in history. Though I got an "A" in the class I do recommend forming a study group.
Prof. Moffatt is challenging but that's what you attend school for! I encourage ppl to take her classes, but SHOW UP TO CLASS & DO ALL THE READING! I can't stress it enough! Even if you are hungover, just attend her class and listen!!! Doing that saves you alot of time to review before the exams. She is tolerant to hard working ppl, so don't show u
This is the best class ever! I love her! It is a pretty simple class. one project paper thing, it's 2 pages. you have 1 small quiz, 1 midterm, and the final. interesting. very clear. she's freakin awesome. never missed her class once. i had the highest grade in the class. go 2 her class and you'll know the slides. studying 4 this class is not hard
Moffat is tough, she can be nice to you if you are on her good side. IM not going to lie though her class is definitely not easy. She makes the tests hard even though there isnt much homework. its still tough. She was alright though...
she's awesome....i loved the class, and the quizes and tests aren't too hard-you just need to know a lot and memorize a lot. i recommend do every single assignment she asks. Do all the readings-whether you like'm or not. read the book, and memorize all the slides and take good notes. i got a B in the class. and you must show up to every class.
dont take her, worst teacher ever.
Best teacher at pierce hands down. Cares about students who care about learning. Lectures are fun & she explains a bit of world history while explaining the art to put it in context. You have to do the reading, which you should be doing anyways. Slides are easy to memorize if you start early. Love her! Would take more classes w/her if I could!
This teacher knows her stuff! She is an asset to Pierce college and the students. I enjoyed all her classes and learned alot about Renaissance art and architecture and contemporary architecture. She loves what she does and it shows. She expects alot from the students and if you work hard you will succeed in her classes. I always get an A.
She is not the greatest teacher ever. She is really hard. She gives so much material to memorize it is almost impossible. She is not a good teacher because she only skims through the material that will be on the exams. Do not take her class unless you want to memorize alot of art works.
I hated this stupid class and I hated her even more. She made an easy topic extremely difficult and too time consuming. My advice, look elsewhere.
I always sat in the front row and found her study guides to be easy.
worst teacher at pierce hands down!!!!!!she'll make you want to join an army of the undead and hang your self with barbed wire... DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!! W A R N I N G ! ! ! ! she will talk about irrelevant topics for 55 percent of the class and the rest she will make you wish you were never born, PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS CLASS...PLEASE
VERY VERY great professor. She knows alot and she teaches you everything. It's up to you study or not! Take this class and you will love it.
This is the first time Dr. Moffatt had taught this History of Arch. class (actually, more the architecture of history), and it was disorganized and inconsistent at first. There was too much zeroxing of texts, and ambiguity in written assignments. Dr. Moffatt is a very hands-on, animated teacher, and her classes and field trips were interesting.
POOR QUALITY TEACHER. Makes you memorize EVERY painting in the textbook, plus the artist, date, and medium then tests you on only FIVE of them. Very mean and unforgiving, grades unfairly because she plays obvious favorites. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
The point of an art history class is to memorize. As long as you can match dates and names to a picture, you will do well. The tests are based on the lectures so if you go to class every day and pay attention you can get an A. I never once read the textbook. She always offered help and is very available outside of class and through email.
A topnotch teacher. She adds a lot of detail that the book leaves out, and puts everything in historical perspective. A lot of work, but worth the effort!
not the easiest class you'll ever have, but she really wants you to succeed. if you're a slacker or don't attend class on a regular basis, DON'T take her - grades are heavily weighted on tests, not homework. tests are based on LECTURES and TEXTBOOK. a lot of memorization involved in this class. she gives study guides for tests - VERY GOOD TEACHER!
Easy class, just study the slides and the information about the slides. Tests are multiple choice. If you are unable to memorize the simple information and leave the class with an "A", maybe you should put down the pipe. Don't stress, study and handle it.
Shes an alright teacher.Sort of strict. She's big on turning off lights for long lectures but doesn't care if you sleep. She's knows art from beginning to end so don't try to teach her anything. Her husband is an amazing architect. Very smart teacher.
this lady can be mean as hell sometimes! She is intelligent but she really makes you study hard, she insults your intelligence a lot too. She makes you study 100 slides for tests and only puts 5 on the frickin test! Lots of work to do and loves to insult you, in the end I got an A so good luck!
not a good and accessible teacher at all, too stuffy and difficult to follow in her lessons, don't take classes iwth her
worst. teacher. ever. hard class. Lots of studying. Attendance mandatory. lectures boring as all hell and difficult to follow. on top of it she is MEAN
If you are looking for a easy class where you dont have to do any work, look elsewhere. she spends half the class talking about things you dont need to know for the test and wants you to take notes on pointless crap. she thinks she knows everything because she is a teacher and will make you look stupid if you ask a question. do not take this class.
You'll learn a lot from this class. Prof. Moffatt is bright and smart. If you want to get and "A" attend every lecture, do your homework on time and ask questions during class, she loves people who show genuine interest in the subject. Tests are easy, she gives you a study guide in advance. Overall, it was a very good experience.
Interesting at times.Boring at times. Study for the mid term!! I failed her midterm then aced her final so i got a B in the class. Her tests are barely on what she lectures. its mostly from the book. Even hough it was supposed to be an art APPRECIATION class(art 103) its more like an art HISTORY class. the getty assignment is easyyy! She's alright.
I loved her. A lot of people disliked her, but I think she is very knowledgable on the subject. Very helpful, and if you are on her good side (go to class, participate sometimes, be funny), she will help you out. She really helps students who show they care. I thought she was nice and she is helping me get an A in the class.
Class is easy. Didnt need the book at all. Not alot of work. Group project sucks. Prof is waaay into art and she lets you know it. At least 25% of her class is telling you of her boring trips around the world. Also tries to sell you on museum memberships constantly. No cell phones! Likes to yell at you/kick you out if your phone goes off. Overall C
hardest art teacher ever!! she thinks she's teaching Chem or something. Only take this class if your in love with art and its your major. NOT an easy A..
I LOVE DR MOFFAT. Make sure that you attend all classes and study study study for that mid-term. Make note cards but if you go to lecture, dont bother with the book... its useless and she even says it.
it was boring and dry. you have to go on a few field trips outside of class mandatory normally on saturdays takes up most of your day and when she goes over the slides and materials it is confusing her lectures and exams don't go together i would not recomend i went into this class with great hopes for art and she made me sick of it
Extremely intelligent woman with a surprisingly warm and humorous side. Rarely an "art snob". Straight forward tests and essays, very fairly graded. BUT- work required! Gets you interested in things you never thought you'd care about. I have a whole new perspective on art and actually enjoy the Getty more now. Wonderful class, wonderful professor.
I've had Professor Moffatt for 3 classes & she is an excellent art & architectural history instructor. She knows her stuff. You'll know what's expected of U @ the end of the 1st class meeting. If you're taking an art history class because U think it's going to be easy & U are going to do is just sit & stare at pictures, you're in the wrong class!
What a great professor! I took her for summer session 2010 & her class was interesting & she was beyond helpful. This is not an easy class but if you're willing to work it will pay off. Go to her office hours and get to know her, it's worth it!
Her tests many specific questions, so get ready to memorize the book.
gives you handouts for slides. there will be a group project worth a lot of points. Tests are easy if you study. only 2 tests 2 hw asmnts and final. She tries to give off vibe of being a hardass but she's not that bad. Lecture pretty much same as book. Take notes, pay attention and youll be good. easy class.
If you are interested in art and study regularly, a very easy A is wating for you.
This was the honors section. As the entire class would tell you, her demands of the honors students was really excessive. Significantly harder than her regular session. I got an A in this class and felt like I wa taking a 5 unit class. For this honors class we were expected to essentially meorize the textbook AND do lots of outside research.
Study, study, study! Classic Greek/Roman art so interesting. Worked with Getty extensively so talks a lot about it. Didn't care much for subject before, but left with new knowledge and love for art history. Made me love classical greek/roman culture as a whole afterwards. Tests are hard if you don't study extensively. Not easy A
Her class is very hard, and you need to memorize all the painting in the book, the key facts, and lecture. She will ask you what year was this building finished, by whom, and the story behind it. Lots of quizes. 1 midterm, final, and 3 chapter tests. She won't fail anyone, but it's extremely hard to get a B or A. Don't take her class.
The term consisted of a quiz, field trip, term paper, midterm and final. Besides the logistics of the course structure, Professor Moffatt provides for an inspired and thought-provoking semester, giving you a synthesis of her and Curtis' analysis of Modern architecture. She is fair, intellectual and fun. Material is enjoyable, the grades will follow
If you're looking for an easy A class, this is NOT one for you. You have to put a lot of time into this class and make sure you are not falling behind because it wil catch up. A lot of memorization. I would not say this is a difficult class, but a class that you have to put a lot of time into.
Great teacher. Like everyone else said not an easy A. However, I missed half of the midterm and didn't do some of the hw, but I still got out with a B. Moffatt knows her stuff, no doubt--she is very helpful if you seek it out. While she may seem harsh and strict, her sheer expertise in art history is worth taking the class.
Stay away from her. Super harsh and cold. There are better professors in art than her!
Anyone who said the class is hard is kidding themselves. Show up to class, take notes, review them before the exam and do the study guides and you'll be fine. This teacher has a mean streak. She didnt treat the class with respect and was surprised when the class did not respect her. Can be petty about students stepping out during class, cellphones
I couldn't deal with her horrible attitude. My class was annoyingly rowdy and through no fault of her own could barely keep them quiet, except my gripe is with the fact that she spent too long reprimanding us. Lots of memorization & a group paper that made me run for the hills.I personally hate relying on others for a grade, and this ruined mine.
horrible. don't even think about it
Not an easy A, but possible to get A. Don't procrastinate w/studying. Try to memorize/read a little everyday. MINIMUM you should do is memorize Title, Artists, Date, and Type of painting. Textbook helpful to understand history of painting. Go to her lectures, she will go over key information for paintings/structures that will be on the test.
Doesn't explain the history of paintings at all. Doesn't provide helpful information during lecture. If you want to know the history of the painting you basically have to read the book and learn it yourself. Isnt a good teacher overall.
Shes so sweet, but she gives no work.. it all depends on the test which can get really difficult. SUPER BORING. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!!!
Do not take this class if you want to keep your overall college GPA high. You need to work ridiculously hard to get an A in her class. I would go to almost all her office hours asking questions on how to improve, but she really wasn't helpful. What she told me in her office did not correlate to how i could improve in her class.
Professor Moffatt is a strict professor, however, that does not mean she is a bad professor. The class consist of two quizzes, a midterm, a final. Student seem to dislike Moffatt, but maybe becasue they dont do well in her class. Overall the class is easy. I myself am not a art major but I can say i learned a lot from professor Moffatt.
TAKE THIS CLASSSS ITS BUON FRESCOOOO!! YOU'LL GET THAT JOKE ONCE YOU TAKE THE CLASS HAHAHA
Prof. Moffatt was a teacher that actually showed she loved what she was teaching. She made us go to museums. Made us do group projects- but there was reason behind it. The only complaint I had was that because a few classes were cancelled, we didn't make it to the end of the syllabus. Brava, Professor!
She is a very lecture heavy. Grades tough. Test heavy. Does not see students during office hours, like the syllabus says. Goes off on tangents.
