There was alot of stuff to cover. Homework everyday even though we only meet twice a week. He never sleeps, I bothered him all the time and was always available
Knows his stuff but favors students with experience in the field. Bias teacher. Doesn't help because he is paranoiac about students cheating.
Copper Smyth is an easy going, highly motivated Professor. He is always available to help you understand the vast amount of material that you need to cover.
Cooper Smyth is a very knowledgeable and helpful instructor. His in-class Packet Tracer demos provide a great deal of insight into the course material and help to reinforce the concepts that are taught in the class. Be advised, if you take the eight week flex course, you will need to find time to do homework assignments/read everyday to do well.
Great teacher. He really knows CNNA. He is a tough grader, but provides great feedback.
Lots of reading, but he was prompt in responding if I needed help.
I am currently taking his online CCNA Security course and I would highly recommend it. The course entails interesting topics and applied skills towards simulated labs. The knowledge and understanding of network security that you gain from this course is exceptional.
I have no complaints. Very fair instructor.
Class was easy. Teacher was great and helpful. Easy A. :D
Overall this is a grate class. Really it is not bad so long as you have taken some CCNA classes already. Just read the modules and take notes before taking the assignments, quizzes and test and you will pass.
Good professor with an obvious enthusiasm for education and technology. Don't hesitate to contact him (email worked for me) as responses were fast and very helpful. The pace (though brisk) appears to be well thought out. The 8 day cycles can occasionally get disorienting though so I'd recommend using a calendar to keep track of due dates.
This class is difficult. There is a lot of information and it is not recommended to be working full time and taking this course; however, if you are working full time make sure after work the rest of your night is dedicated to this course.
Professor Smyth has been a excellent professor, Great communication skills, overall A+ on his part. One thing future students show know though is that even know you know the material like the back of your hand. Document everything in labs, try to be very meticulous in your solutions so you get full credit on your assignments.
The class is not hard, but dedication and time management are the keys. i would suggest to manage your time since the course has different deadlines for the single module. Also, it is better to take this course on 16 weeks term since there are a lot of information to absorb. And do not worry, prof cooper will be there for you if you need any help.
I have emailed this professor several times and always gets back in a timely manner.
Great instructor. Knows his stuff, and will gladly help answer any questions you have. If you take the flex course: be ready to keep up with the classwork, we average two chapters a week. Read the material, make sure you have Firefox, do as many labs as you can, and try to attend weekly Q&A, with prepared questions. He'll go out of his way to help.
Great Professor. He covers the material in depth. Flex course is tough if you don't already have experience in the subject matter but Cooper provides outside sources for assistance and is always quick to respond.
This class is amazing. The online book is very in depth and are very explanatory. Even though the class is online (pink elephant) he is always there for you. Most of the time you can send him an email and he will get back to you within an hour. Its a very fun and interesting class and i would definitely take it again. Amazing teacher.
He answers your questions right away
I feel very comfortable with this online class. It is flexible, the material itself is very instructive and so far the communication with my instructor has been on point. I would do this again.
He seems to be a decent instuctor.
Being an online course, there isn't much to say. He does respond to every question asked of him.
Good Professor He is there when you need it with set hours and he leaves clear feedback.
Took this class as an online course. Workload is reasonable if kept on top of. Smyth responds quickly to any e-mailed questions. Attentive reading is essential.
Great professor. responds quickly, and gives clear instructions and comments on your work. Staying on top of the reading crucial.
When answering the homework assignments, make sure you are very specific and provide as much detail as you can to attain full marks. He looks at each homework assignment and provides clear feedback with what you did well and what you did not provide in your answers. Would take again, but in a classroom environment, I prefer lectures.
Mr. Smyth does offer tutoring every Wednesday if you are struggling. Unfortunately I haven't been taking advantage of this due to having another class at that time. He does communicate well with the students when needed. Some times the homework can be a little confusing but just make sure you carefully read the instructions.
He's a great teacher. He is always willing to help his students, his response to any of your concerns is quite fast and helpful. The class itself is pretty simple, read the chapters, do your homework, take your quizzes, take your exams, and continue practicing. Just make sure to keep up with the class schedule and not to fall behind.
It is a lot of information to learn in a short period for the CCNA Security Class but his expectations are clear and you will learn a lot.
It's an online course. Not a lot of lectures or power points. He has experience in the field. He makes himself available. One just has to take advantage of the resource.
If one wants to get good grades with the least amount of effort or absolutely have to get an A then this is probably not the professor for you. An A is in no way guaranteed. If one is very serious about a career in the IT field and doesn't mind putting in lots of extra work then take his class. I took this class online flex. Assignments due daily.
Professor Smyth is very straight forward from the beginning. He lays out what you can expect from him and his class and doesn't deviate from that, so you aren't left hanging. I learned a lot more from his class than other Cisco classes I've taken. Worth giving him and his class a try in my opinion.
Great professor, learned a lot from both Cisco classes that I took with him. Be prepared to study, and I don't advise taking more than 1 additional class with the flex course, if you can help it. The workload gets very intense.
This class is not meant for 8 weeks term, it is better if taken in 16 weeks since there is a lot to digest.
he's a good and helpful teacher, It's a very intensive class, but that's because it's accelerated
The course is really intense especially if you have no background in the subject but because it is an 8 week class. Professor Smyth is very direct with what to expect and is always willing to help. Responds to emails and questions in a timely manner and gives good detailed feedback to help build your skills.
Be ready to be on your computer everyday. Chapters can be pretty long and can have a lot of homework. Does e-mail back the same day, but if your asking a question about an assignment try to ask it the day before it is due to give you ample time. Definitely a lot of work, probably would've been better if I took the full semester instead flex.
Professor Smyth was very straightforward on this course from the beginning. He said it was very intense and he was right. When I registered they only offered it in flex. It needs to be a full semester.
There for you if you have questions made a point to call me directly to make sure i understood the work and to call if have problems
Great class. Class is self paced but does have deadlines. Be Prepared to read. The instructor is there more for help, than serving the material up to you. He will take the time to explain things, but only if you ask. Closed mouths don't get fed. Since class is a flex class, assignments are due pretty quick, but reasonable
nice class smith helps you out in a virtual classroom with headsets it feels like your there almost. he responds promptly to your emails. He does the best that he can to help you. If you struggle with computer classes just take his class. hes really good.
This is probably one of the most intense courses I have ever taken. The amount of information is incredible, however, professor Smyth has given me every opportunity to be successful. He has made himself available to help pretty much at every turn. The one thing I might recommend future students of this course is to read a Network + study guide!!
Extremely intense courses, tons on material to learn. Teacher has a virtual class room that your can ask questions and receive answers, but they are only once a week I would have liked to have more than just once a week
Mr Smyth is very knowledgeable and firm. He takes the time to contact you personally and see if you need any help. Take full advantage of this time that is given to you.
I took cisco 1 and now cisco 2 with Mr. Smyth. This is not a class you can pass without doing the work. As long as you do the reading and the assignments you will do great. If you need help, he is great at responding to you and he holds weekly tutoring sessions for extra credit. Just make sure you ask for help if you need it.
Professor Smyth is a great teacher overall. He is down to earth and is very lenient/patient with you. The best feature about him is that if you have a question, he will ensure that he answers that question and that you fully understand it. The online class is challenging so beware. Do not take unless you have a current background with networking.
For future students this class will required a lot of your time and effort, please be responsible and try to turn in everything on time, the class is a lot fun you get to learn a lot of interested material, if you ever need anything contact the professor he will be there to help you. you will have a lot of work that is for sure. overall have fun :)
Be on task and ready to submit all assignments ON TIME. If you stay on top of your studies in this class an A or B is really easy to achieve. The reason I say B also is because late assignments will hurt your grade tremendously. Attendance is not mandatory but could possibly make or break you at the end because extra points are awarded.
Great instructor! There is pretty much something due every day so be prepared to work for your grade. If you do the readings and attend the tutoring sessions you will do great! Also pay attention to the comments he leaves on your submitted assignments, he is very thorough in going over what you submit and leaves specific feedback.
Takes time to explain concepts. Responds to emails within a day or two.
Professor J Smyth is a great teacher with a great experiences of background. he tries to help me as much as possible and very serious about his job. his explanation for class orientation is so clear and tries to help you understand the difficulties of his classes in order for you to arrange your time and strong commitment to what you will face.
I will say that this class is not easy. However, it is very rewarding. When I first started this semester I had a lot of confusion about how things were done, and it was looking like I was going to have to drop the class. Professor Smyth has weekly "office" sessions so that online students can get help. Bottom line is he helped tremendously!
if like to learn about networking then he's the guy for you he is well knowledge in this networking funny at times but wants you to know fundamentals of networking he also gives extra credit if you need it but all so get ready to read there is a lot of reading so overall if you listen to him and use the tools he gives you you can pass his class
Be prepared to work. This is not a class to slack off in. Professor Smyth makes himself available at a specific time each week and answers emails in the meantime. I would suggest that in that first orientation, before any homework is due, make sure you understand what he's looking for. Maybe ask for a demonstration, which he is happy to provide!
This is a very interesting class. A lot of material to absorb, so make sure to read. Daily assignments. Has weekly collab to answer questions, and does respond to emails within 1-2days. From the start, he gives you a realistic idea of the commitment you need to succeed in this class. Very down to earth, and is very willing to help you do well.
There's no way to sugar coat it, there is A LOT of work for this class, daily. But to be fair Professor Smyth does let you know about all the time you'll need to dedicate before class even starts. He is always willing to help and responds to emails within 1-2 days. He provides a lot of resources to help you learn and understand the course better.
I took Prof Smyth's CISCO I online flex class for Spring 2016. Extremely challenging. Assign. due daily but this is expected as the material is condensed in flex courses. The virtual classroom is AMAZING! Much more hands on than expected. Prof Smyth is firm about the material but always available to assist in any way he can. Quirky guy, fun class!
I took Prof Smyth's Cisco flex class online. He made it clear that it was going to be a very fast paced class, and it was very true. He was very knowledgeable on the subject and was willing to help whenever you had a problem overall he is a great professor.
Excellent Professor. He will be there to help you when you need it, and will do his best to make the learning experience as understandable as possible. He does give you a compiled amount of work to do, but that's what happens when you take a Flex class. Great class to take overall!
I took CISCO 2 online. Textbook provided online. Week would include 2 HW assignments, 2 Exams, 2 Quizzes, and an attendance assignment on quiz days. Homework could include some questions to be sure you understand the material, and packet tracers. Hes dedicated to helping you understand the material, not on you just passing. Tutoring available.
This class is like a full-time job. Be ready to schedule and value your time to complete assigns and pass quizzes/exam. A lot of self teaching is required; online virtual classroom tutoring is a great resource to help clarify any questions or concerns. Not as demanding as course, he can be flexible with your schedule with notice before exam dates.
I've taken this course online and only wish I took in person. I enjoyed his virtual classrooms and the way he presents the material. No question is a dumb question and often wants for more participation. Like I said this was taken online but Smyth still saw you as an individual and not just number (or annoying email)
Professor Smyth is very up front about what to expect from the course load before the class even begins. He is there to guide you every step of the way and is very quick about responding when you do need help. This is a tough course so expect a lot of work for this class but as long as you do your reading it'll all be okay.
Prof. Smyth is really great about providing clear feedback on homework assignments and responding to emails very quickly. The most challenging part of taking this online flex class is the very fast pace. Be prepared to read 2 chapters and complete 2 quizzes, tests and sets of homework every week.
Professor Smyth has exceeded my expectations. He is down to earth and great to talk to. I will however note, he expects that you commit to his classes. Any half efforts will result in falling behind. Due to his teaching style and how he is with his students I would choose him as my professor every time.
Over all I think Professor Smyth is a great teacher. You can tell he knows what he is talking about with years of Experience in the field. Taking this class the first few weeks if you are not ready to devote your full attention you will struggle. The professor is accessible one day a week in "Office hours" and any time in email.
I take most classes online. The work load for this class is HEAVY!!! Something is due 7 days a week. No exaggeration! But it can be done without stressing. The tools and help is there but you have to put in the work. Mr. Smyth really will help you get it if you need it. If this sounds daunting DO NOT TAKE IT IN FLEX!!!
Professor Smyth has a great amount of knowledge in the IT industry and is more than willing to help you as a student to succeed in his course. His 8 week online courses require a lot of time... If you don't have the time, this course will be more difficult for you. If you stay ahead of the course, I guarantee your stress level will be stable!
Professor, you have been the the greatest instructor compared to the years I have been going to school. I like the way you introduced your self before the course began. You told us straight forward at how you see your students and allowing us to see and feel how a real world experience would be; and how it can impact us when an assignment or (proje
Mr. Smyth provides good information before you start the course and during the course. His response time is great and makes him self available for tutoring or questions. There is alot of information to take in and staying on track is important. Mr. Smyth also works in the field he teaches which is comforting to have someone knowledgeable.
The course is self-paced, with deadlines, so make sure you are self-motivated to keep with the pace. I work full-time and I have to make sure I have time to study. Though no textbook, if you can seat through a PowerPoint, makes notes and not miss important items; Great. I book the electronic version, printed the book and it has helped me a lot.
If you are taking the Flex course, be prepared to be focused on nothing else for 8 weeks. Daily assignments most of the time, and a lot of reading. If there is any drama in your life now, or seems like some could come up, just wait until next semester to take this flex course.
Truly one of the best professors I have encountered. Sincerely cares that you are learning the material and will go above and beyond to provide feedback and instruction.
This is not an easy class by any means, so getting a good professor really helps it sail along. Mr. Smyth is a very good choice to go with if you need a little extra help and want good response time to your emails. Don't expect him to spoon feed you though, he will expect you to figure out a lot of the issues on your own.
Sir I would not describe it as my favorite class but I enjoyed it. The reason I am saying that because of the work load that put on student. I understand that I need to learn so much in so little, PT, Net Labs, attendance quizzes. However, He had responded to my concerns in a timely manor and I have gained so much knowledge from this class.
I am taking this course online and I can tell that Mr. Smyth is an excellent professor by feedback provided in the comments of the grades. The course is set up like the rest of the Cisco courses and there is a lot of reading involved. If you are taking this online, be ready to take "attendance" quizzes - questions from previous Cisco 1-3.
He is a very good lecturer. Although, He made all things looks like the class will be unbearable for everyone, sure a lot of people dropped out of this class at the beginning because of what looks like a threat, but was to prepare us all for the the whole semester. As for me, it was a motivation and it helped me a lot, not just for this class.
Definitely not alot of work compared to other classes. Using Net Lab is really the only frustrating aspect of the course. But tutoring is offered, which is great! There are attendance quizzes involving binary/hex/dec conversions and subnetting, as well as some questions from previous Cisco courses. Weekly assignments. You can also work ahead.
Read the free provided text via netacad, and perform the additional "optional" packet tracer programs.
Professor Smyth is very knowledgeable in his career field which makes him a great teacher! His 8 week courses can be very difficult if you don't have a lot of time. I DO NOT recommend his 8 week course unless you are a DEDICATED student! He gets back to questions in a timely manner and helps very much with solidifying material!!! Highly recommended
This 8-week class moves at a fast pace, so take it only if you can afford to put in the time to read all of the material. The coursework is not difficult to understand, and Professor Smyth is excellent at offering feedback on assignments to help enhance your understanding of the material.
Very fair professor. Lots of work due everyday. Took 8 week course, so the 16 week course would be very manageable. Work is straight forward and you can get ahead if you like. Professor is quick to respond to questions or concerns.
This professor is one of my favorites. He is always willing to help and answer any questions. Even though this class is notfor the faint of heart. This professor does everything in his power to help his students succeed.
The professor actually knows what he's talking about since he works in a top tech company. I respect him and try to learn as much as I possible can from him. Be sure to have plenty of reading time and take detailed notes. The homework and tests are not going to be easy if you don't study hard.
I'm taking the Flex II option, which the course is 8 weeks long, and it is consistent reading; you need to be motivated and excited about learning. This is primarily self-taught if you are taking the online course; because it fast pace and research on topics is sometimes necessary. Professor Smyth is readily available and holds weekly sessions.
This is my second class with Mr. Smyth and after the first you pretty much know what to expect. The course has a good flow that once you get a routine going you should be fine. Just don't get behind there's a lot to learn and a lot of information to read. There is usually something due every day so it is very easy to fall behind.
I'm taking the Flex II option, which the course is 8 weeks long, and it is consistent reading; you need to be motivated and ready to be challenged. This is primarily self-taught if you are taking the online course; because it's fast pace and research on topics is sometimes necessary. Professor Smyth is readily available and holds weekly sessions.
If you decide to take this class you must have previous experience in the IT field. Your knowledge will be tested on a variety of things, but you will leave this class much more experienced than before you entered.
Great course to take to dip your feet into the Cisco networking world. I took the flex II 8 week course for a more accelerate learning experience and felt that the learning process was still great. /// Also the professor is very helpful and attentive to emails regarding any questions you have while also providing additional lecturing if needed.
Class requires a lot of time, patience, A LOT of reading and live skill assessments. Professor Smyth gives full example of what to expect starting the class and doing each assignment. I would comment at the time I took the course he had a busy work load which lengthened the response time. Make sure you read through all instructions and announcement
Time management is crucial when it comes to this class. If you don't plan to take time out your day to do your work and wait until the last minute then this class might not be for you. He gives you honest feedback with no sugarcoating. We are all adults and must take his constructive criticism and learn from it. All in all great class
Personally think hes a great teacher will really help you out. Is a bit of a tough grade but gives good feed back on what you did wrong so so it really helps you out has tutoring sessions if needed so all around hes a pretty good teacher but its not a sit back and do nothing course.
It's a fast class, and there is an assignment almost every night. But Professor Smyth makes sure that you have the resources necessary to help you pass.
Professor Smyth is very clear in what he expects of you and provides an abundance of information up front in regards to the content of this course. He also provides actionable feedback with understanding. He is also flexible were he can be and is cognizant of the challenges of online learners.
Mr. Smyth is an excellent teacher. I love how organized the course is. He provides many materials that can benefit us during the course. He provides feedback on most assignments which I greatly appreciate! It is a tough course but as long as you read and ask questions, you will have no issues.
The course was a flex course and very fast paced. I don't recommend taking this course if you are a first time student. The course curriculum was exciting and comprehensive. Though access to communication with the professor can sometimes be limited, I found that overall, He was very supportive and understanding in regards to questions and concerns.
If you are pursing a career in the information technology security field, I would recommend this instructor. He has a great career background in security in the I.T. field, and will get you prepared for the knowledge that will come in securing the network infrastructure.
i think professor Smyth is a good professor but sometimes too hard when it comes to consider your life matters while you are doing your best to do your classes and also live means doing other things in your life like your job your family and other things so hopefully consider that some students are only students but also responsible and help them.
Prof. Smyth is an availbale for his students, should you need assistance. The online class I took was Cisco based and it was pretty much at my own pace. He gives weekly updates as to what should have been done before that day.
I wouldn't mind having this professor again if I could. This is my second time having him for a teacher with year gap in between and he is still the only one I've had that makes everyone sign into black board so we can all get familiar. He answers questions when you ask them but he makes you work for the answer.
Professor Smyth is very clear in what he expects of you and provides all important information up front about the course. He understands the challenges of online learning and tailors his lesson/assignment plan for you. All you have to do is keep up.
Professor Smyth that is clear and concise. He is all upfront with everything ranging simple questions about his expectations of us a students. He is also very approachable and available outside school hours. He will explain things thoroughly and provides great feedback on every packet tracer. I hope you enjoy his class like I did.
.Attendance quiz's are given 3 times per week. There is usually 2 labs plus a quiz that is due each week. Time management is key with the class. The class is difficult but fun. He is reachable after class if you have any questions on the assignments. He gives great feedback. Textbook not needed since all material is provided online.
Yes, this class seems daunting when you first look at the detail, number of requirements, and amount of reading he demands of students. However, you WILL learn... a lot. It's a wake-up call for those students about to enter the job market. Read ahead, get ahead, and stay ahead... advice I should have heeded.
If you have a family and a full time job I would not advise you take CCNA2 as a flex course. It is really hard but you have to respect him at the end because if you do pass you know you pushed yourself to the limit. You will dislike the work, but you have to respect him for the challenge of passing
Overall, a good professor. My perspective may be slightly jaded by the fact that I've only taken flex classes, which are not for faint of heart. He is flexible where he can be, fair in his grading, and will correct mistakes he makes given the opportunity. He gives you the resources, it's on you to go the distance.
a real solid dude. will clearly communicate to you.
He gets back to you quickly. Lots of work but worth it. This class is hard but all the work that you do will help you get thru it.
There's really no messing around in Mr. Smyth's CCNA 1 and 2 Flex online. You need to get ahead in order to feel comfortable with the workload. The pace is really intimidating but its crazy how much you learn in such a short time.
He makes it crystal clear of what is expected. Taking Cisco 2 as a flex course makes the workload much heavier. Attendance assignments 3 times a week on top of the regular assignments which have really made me more efficient in an area I struggled with beforehand. I highly recommend taking his courses because you will definitely learn the content.
Prof. Smyth is a great instructor in my opinion, and here's the reason why. The first thing that he does is set the boundaries by laying out what he expects, and vice versa. Time maybe an illusion, but its the most valuable possessions someone has, and when someone is willing to give that up for another in a timely matter, it speaks volumes!
Very upfront and clear about what he expects from his students in his courses. His Cisco 2 8-week class is very fast paced and challenging. You have to stay on top of your assignments and let him know immediately of any issues you are having because the class will not stop and wait for you. Overall his is a good instructor.
Professor Smyth has made my first Online class experience great one. Professor Smyth has allocated office hours to reach out to his students. if waiting for office hours is too long, professor Smyth is available by email as well. All assigments have clear instructions, no tricks, and provides "OPTIONAL" assigmnents which can prepare you for final
Great Professor! very knowledgeable. I took him on line and if you have a question he will reply and is very helpful. There is a lot of work daily so be prepared before signing up. He does provide a lot of links that are helpful.
Good class, pretty intense. Be prepared to buckle down and study. Prof makes himself very available and is very clear about expectations. If you are determined you will suceed!
I took the online course and still a very engaging professor. Great feedback on assignments, really helps to improve and fine tune your skills. Very responsive. Just do your part and do the work on the schedule laid out for you and youll do well. Certainly not a course you can slack in but its still very doable. Would take another course with him
Prof. Smyth is a great online instructor. His grading criteria and due dates are clear. He is accessible via email if you have questions and is quick to respond. Read your assignments, do your work, ask reasonable questions and you should have no problems in his class. His feedback is fair and timely on graded assignments.
Prof. Smyth's expectations are clearly stated in the syllabus, no surprises here. Weekly assignments with set due dates. Like any other class if you do your reading, and assignments you will have no problem passing. Provides detailed feedback on lab assignments. Office hours available, responds to emails in timely manner.
Be prepared to set aside some hours. He does not give meaningless busy work, however, you do have to work for your grade. The effort and time you put into his class is what you will earn.
This class not only focuses on Cisco Security but also a refresher in previous learned skills . The daily quizzes have helped also in identifying my weak areas in order to prioritize time focusing on .
I've learned more than expected in this class. The packet tracers and labs have help me fine tune my Cisco and learning experience.
I think if there was a possible way to do his classes hands on, id choose that. His attendance quizzes get old really quick because you cant go back and review before submission, but they are good refreshers. Other than that i liked his class
Professor Smyth is very detailed oriented. I have taken multiple classes he instructed, they are always very clear and concise. He is good at reaching out to students in a timely manner. He also grades assignments within 72 hours (on average) upon completion. If you have taken any of the Cisco/CCNA courses as you know there is a lot of reading.
This class is not to be taken lightly. It's very difficult and requires a lot of time dedicated to both reading and the packet tracers. If I could go back I would choose the 16-week version rather than the 8-week. Professor Smyth is however, extremely helpful and understanding. If you're having trouble he will help you as much as he reasonably can.
Cons: No feedback on exams. I prefer to have feed back on my horrible fails to see where I went wrong to focus on what I need to learn the most. No syllabus for work, needs to be more specific. Pros: Great sense of Humor; Excellent response rate; Very detailed responses; Provides plenty of offsite learning resources; She's very lenient.
I would recommend taking the 16 week course and not a flex class. Lots of reading and homework over the 8-week course. Professor Smyth is very understanding and gives detailed feedback on packet tracer labs. He's also funny! I like his class and have nothing negative to say about him or his teaching skills. I would take his class again.
It's a heavy flex course. Homework everyday but nothing that can't be managed. Mr. Smyth is very helpful and encouraging, I can't stress this enough, and will give you everything you need to pass this class including: office hours, quick replies, and clear grading feedback. *note level of difficulty is based on the understanding that it is a flex.
Overall I love this course and Professor Smyth is awesome. I would definitely take him again. The course is well put and clean for an online course. He gives great feedback on what you did right or wrong on your homework. Manage your time right and if you really get into this class then you should have no problem passing.
Professor Smyth's class is a nice refresher to the traditional class in mind. Having both professionalism and humor combined very well and incorporating good teaching at that makes for very solid teaching, and that is exactly what Professor Smyth provides!
Flex Class requires discipline and time management skills. This course can be dense for the short amount of time given per chapter. Some experience in networking would be an advantage taking a flex course, but if you are new to networking I would recommend taking this course for a full semester. Fair grading, and always responds to questions.
Class is great I would take this prof again. Online class can be easy as long as you ready and follow the instruction you will be good.
Class expectations are clearly set and direct instructions are provided. Responds to emails promptly. Great feedback given to all assignments when necessary.
I don't have anything to warn about or negative to say about Professor Smyth. He gives his expectations, requirements, do's and don'ts at the beginning of the course. I would say it would've been nice to get some examples or videos on the labs. Get ready for the weekly test, labs and every-other-day quizzes. Do your reading, and it will work out.
Great feedback on all your assignments. If you go back and read the comments he also makes you think about how everything works. Does require an attendance module be done every few days so you are unable to try and cram everything into one day a week. Instructions are always clear and concise on what you need to do. Make sure you know your basics.
Mr. Smyth provides great feedback on what areas need improvement and best practices. Many professors do not respond to emails in a timely manner, however Mr. Smyth responds to emails as quick as possible which is great and provides information clearly to understand and read great professor.
Professor Smyth at first will overwhelm you. The sheer amount of information to absorb is quite intense. Once you start getting the groove of how he works though, you will develop a pattern and the class will begin to feel normal. If you are passionate about networking, with a slight passion for security, then this class will be great for you.
Professor Smyth is so far the best professor I've had not just for an online course, but in any of my other courses. He gives you great feedback on all your assignments and lets you know what you missed or what you need to read again in order to understand the material you missed. You can tell right away he loves his job and is willing to help out.
Professor Smyth is very professional and straightforward with all instructions for assignments, quizzes, and tests. Assignments are graded in a prompt manner and provides detailed information on your scoring for each assignment. I'd definitely recommend taking his course.
The short 8 week session makes staying on top of the assignments, quizzes, and exams a bit challenging. Professor Smyth responds promptly to emails and he provides helpful feedback on homework assignments. The schedule of assignments is clearly laid out from the beginning of the semester.
Professor Smyth presides over a tough class. Cisco R&S is one of the hardest entry-level certification tracks in IT, but you will learn more than you thought possible. Professor Smyth himself is a longtime professional in the industry. Feedback is prompt and helpful and his office hours were very useful. Get ready for 10 chapters in 5 weeks.
Honestly one of the best teachers I have had to date. He starts you off with a TON of information regarding how the class works, FAQs, methods of communication, and much much more. He in no way sugar coats things; the flex course moves fast, but is do-able even for students that have no previous experience in networks (like I did).
Professor Smyth is the best Professor I have had in college. I took the 8 week online CCNA1 course, which has been insanely difficult! Not only has he been very helpful with feedback on homework, but is very good about sending emails and updates to assist you. If every professor was like this, I feel like I could ace all of my classes.
Professor Smyth has made taking these CCNA courses much easier by forcing us to do the work everyday at a steady pace. It has helped bring back some of things I have forgotten as well as thought me new things I can use going forward. He always provides feedback on your homework too so you know where you are on things.
Knowing what I know, I would have taken this class in person with Professor Smyth. Although I am doing good in class, I think the actual lecturing and interaction would have helped when I had questions. It's a lot of information that you have to absorb and demonstrate so be sure to clear your schedules. It was worth taking and I recommended it.
if you ever felt like, why am i paying for this, than this is the class for you. lots of information, homework and reading but its worth it. this is a hard class but if you want to learn the material and be prepared for what comes next instead of just getting an easy a take him. with daily work and reading it keeps you focused and motivated.
The course is set up so that there is almost never a day that something isn't due. At first I hated it but when I got in the rhythm it actually became very helpful. Professor Smyth is very honest and straightforward about how the course is and he is not wrong, but don't let that worry you as he is quite funny and makes the course a good experience.
Professor Smyth makes what could have been a extremely hard course enjoyable and just a little less hard. You turn in assignments every day so it keeps you on point for the duration of the course. There is a lot of reading but staying consistent is important.
This is a really, REALLY intensive class, and a really REALLY intensive professor. HOWEVER, he's also really understanding and flexible. If you fulfill your end of the bargain, study, seek out feedback and help, and keep up with the work: he's really considerate of you. Take that into account, be prepared, and you should be just fine.
The online course had mandatory attendance quizzes that had to be done by 10 pm. Lots of homework and tons of reading on the chapters. Had Netlab access which was a bit frustrating because of time limits and reservations on pods. Professor graded fairly and responded in a fair amount of time.
You will have attendance quiz 3 days of the week. You will learn while doing the labs but Netlab isn't the best and kind of sucks. professor isn't the easiest to get in touch with but once you do get in touch with him he is willing to help you out and explain labs and functions. Don't expect to get your grades early
Professor Smyth is a great teacher. He gives great feedback, funny, caring and is very intelligent. The class is easy if you read and do the work. He will reply to emails in a timely manner and is always willing to help. Be prepared to read a lot and do packet tracer labs. I would definitely take his class again.
Makes himself available at specific times or e-mail any time, makes you think through a question. You will have a good grasp of the material at the end. the class is entirely online.
The class is fairly straightforward and easy as long as you stay focused and stick to the schedule. It can hardly be called difficult and the professor does everything possible to pave the path for you to pass. The only way that you fail is if you act lazy and expect to not dedicate at least an hour every other day to this class.
Expectations of the class are clear and gives weekly updates. He usually responds quickly to emails. Sets hours to help address any concerns. There's a good amount of work and reading, but given at steady pace.
Very easy going teach who is there to help you every step of the way. As long as you ask for help and don't let yourself fall behind you can easily pass his class.
this is my second class with professor smyth, and there is just as much to do as the first time around but nothing impossible. daily reading with quizzes and assignments. if you do the work you shouldn't have any problems and if you do he always gives good feedback and is available for questions. if you want to learn, he is a good choice.
how to say, it is very good.
There is a lot of material to learn and the most difficult thing is taking the appropriate time to absorb it. There are quizzes, exams, and homework for each chapter. It is not overly difficult, but you have to make time for it. With the 8 week class be certain you have time to read and study.
The course is very fast paced so be ready to read/complete two chapters a week with daily readings! You have a quiz, homework & exam for every chapter w/ a triweekly attendance quiz. While this may seem like a lot of work, Professor Smyth is understanding and flexible, he responds to emails in a timely manner is available for help when needed
CCNA2 Online Course. Professor is responsive and offers tutoring when needed to help better explain things.
The professor has work due every-day, however it's one exam or quiz that can be easily completed from reading the chapters in the online book. As long as you keep up on your work either the week or few days before, you should be completely fine. There's also extra credit assignments once and awhile, allowing you to keep up your grade if you fall.
Overall, I had a good experience. The professor always responded very quickly to any concerns I had. The expectations were stated very clearly and bluntly before the class even began, which I really appreciated. It was a fast paced class, with an exam or quiz due everyday, but that is to be expected since it is a flex course.
Great professor to have while on this journey. Makes you work for it. Quiz and Exams due everyday but as long as you read the chapters you will do great. Always responds in a timely manner.
GREAT PROFESSOR. It's an intense class, a lot to read but it worth it. Quizzes and exams for every chapter. If you take your time & study you will pass this class. I've been taking several online classes and I can say by experience that it is rare to find a professor that really cares. He's always willing to help even, he offers tutoring sessions.
For this class being the first Cyber class I have taken, Mr. Smyth was very helpful when it came to the questions that I had for the material. He was very respectful and wanted to see me and the rest of my class to succeed and pass this program. I hope to have him as a professor in the future with my cyber security degree.
Make sure you follow the guidelines, but if you know you are going to be behind give him a heads up. Silent mouths do not get fed. On that note he is very flexible, so do not feel discouraged.
The Flexibility you have with taking this course is impressive. Weekly deadlines and alerts on where your assignments should be completed. super easy to follow and keep track of. Communication between the student and the instructor was usually a fast response to questions or issues with the program. Grading and syllabus were instant and easy.
Professor Smyth was great. He provided flexibility and had great communication. I did not have to wait very long for a reply to any of my emails. He provides clear grading criteria and how grades are calculated. Professor Smyth was also quick to address any problems with NetAcad. Highly recommend taking a class with Professor Smyth.
awesome guy, could easily become good friends with and really knows his stuff!
I was apprehensive about juggling this class with multiple responsibilities, but my professor's proactive support and the flexibility of the course have been a game-changer. His guidance and course structure make it ideal for busy individuals. I appreciated how he reached out when I missed quizzes, showing his dedication to each student's success
Mr. Smyth is my online instructor and he was always checking on all the students and offering his help. He encourage us to continue and always have communication between students. I believe he is a great teacher for this class.
The class was easy yet hard. It has a similar reading level to ccna 1 but there are no retakes on exams. I found this to be helpful as it forced me to study before each exam to make sure I knew the material. The class is very test heavy which can be hard for some people but help others with less time. the professor is also fairly quick on emails.
Professor Smyth, is there to answer any questions you may have. Additionally, he lets you know all of the trends on the workforce and tells you what classes you need to take to achieve your goals and get into industry.
Professor Smyth was fantastic in our online Cisco class, ensuring support availability. Limited interactions didn't hinder his availability, and clear communication channels aided assistance. His consistent prompts kept us on track for what was ahead of us. Over all, great educator.
I enjoyed this class; all the information was given by the professor from day 1. I reached out to him a couple of times and always responded in a timely manner. We will often get emails with reminders and to let us know where we were in class. I would take another class with this professor.
- ITCC-1444 is a fast paced class with little instructor involvement - Syllabus included a timeline to help students stay on track - Required Zoom orientation. If you have an emergency he is flexible and allows for a submission of class details instead - Issues with tests being locked that required me to ask for help. Issues were resolved quickly
Took CCNA2 for an online class. A major thing to know is that cisco is not easy; taking it online and as flex doesn't help either. So if you can take the class in person do that and if you can't buckle in and do your best. The Professor was easy to talk to; gave an extension without asking for one. grading criteria was made clear from the beginning
This class is completely on your own. Be prepared for about 20-30 hours of work per week for an 8 week course. There is module test every week and that is the only grades inputted. The professor can also be a bit slow when responding to emails and may take a day or 2. I would recommend this class to people who are confident in their CCNA1 skills.
The CCNA2 class is a challenge, but the professor's clear guidance and flexibility make it doable. Unstuckstudy has been a lifesaver for exam prep. Overall, a rewarding experience.
super chill
Excellent at communication and monitoring students despite it being asynchronous. If you aren't tech-savvy or haven't taken a Cisco class, the information can be overwhelming. It's a lot of self-discipline to get everything done and not do it all at once. He tries to help in any way to maintain a life-school balance.
Very nice. Very understanding. He will work with you!
Very nice!
make sure to keep pace with the course material
Professor Smyth is an amazing professor and one of my favorites, I have had the pleasure of taking their class and would 100% take another with them. He understands that students may have issues during exams for example and if you email him because of a technical issue he has no problem with giving retakes. Along with the flexibility of this class.
Cooper is a pretty great professor. He made sure to be accessible for any questions and is prompt. He gives goo feedback and is more than willing to help. I would definitely take more classes under his instruction.
Fantastic professor and perfect for online courses! It covers routers, switches, WLANs, and security concepts in depth. Very accommodating with scheduling conflicts and always ready to help highly recommend for a solid understanding of network architecture and operations in a LAN environment!
The course material was good, but I believe it was mainly sourced from Cisco. The professor provided the links and final dates, but there was a lack of connection with the students. For the cost of the course, I think a self-paced format might be more beneficial. Delgado.
