Boring!!! Zzzzz!! Doesn't seem to know much at all. Wouldn't take another class with her.
Assigns TOO many readings, and doesn't cover any of them. Tests are way to hard. Doesn't tell what should focus studying on. And is extremely rude to students comments/questions.
Didn't know what she was teaching, had no organization, was rude to students, and the test were extremely unfair!
one of the WORST PROFESSORS OF ALL TIME! She was very rude to anyone that had an opinion other than hers. Eventhough she had office hours, she'd make you feel unwanted. She expects too much and gives little to no time to complete assignments.
Terrible. WAY too many readings, (2 textbooks PLUS reserve readings - in a 300 person class)impossible exams and group assignments in a 300 person class! Her lectures are all over the place and extremely hard to follow.
Terrible. Her assignments aren't appropriate for large classes and her grading scale is ridiculous. Offers no feedback on papers and is rude when you ask her a question. Her exams overly emphasize her "facts of the day". Avoid her if you can.
"Teaches" the blatantly obvious. Rude, uses stupid pedagogical devices, treats students as though they're unbearably stupid. Minimal effort put into preparing for classes, seems lazy and uninterested. Threw a temper tantrum in class once over one of her "facts of the day." Take SOCI 365 with Beland.
Horrible glad she went on sebaticle
She is an amazing professor who has a lot to teach. Anybody who does not think so is stupid. Also, she will help anybody out who desires the academic life.
I had her for 307, and she was brutal, but for this class she is pretty good, alot better actually. But still her notes are kinda all over the place and she talks to fast! But overall, pretty good and she wants her students at this level to do well
Horrible. This class was supposed to be Soci of Aboriginal People in Canada and she totally focussed on 'Status Indians' which is entirely racialist. Very simplistic - fact of the day, indeed!
I find her to be very pleasant. I also enjoy her classes - she repeats the need-to-know facts for tests throughout the term, incorporates videos and speakers into the classes, and gives ample time for group work. All in all very informative.
I found her to be a cheerful person and made the class very relaxed. Unfortunately her lectures were all over the place and her final focused on a very small part of the course even thou she said it was not going to. She also failed to mark the one group assig. we had before the final and two weeks after there are still no marks for either
Her lectures are all over the place and you have no idea what she will test you on. If you make the mistake of asking her, she tells you that everything could be tested. Thanks, that helps. I'm not asking to have the answers handed to me, but being somewhat realistic would be awesome. She seems nice, but isn't... Avoid her!
I had a horrible time in this class which is too bad because I love the subject matter. This prof taught the same facts for weeks on end, didn't move on, was limited in her subject coverage, vague on instructions for projects, slow to grade, and was just generally not a good experience. Her tests were odd too. Especially the final. Avoid if you can
The worst prof i have ever had in my three years of post secondary. I dont recommend her to anyone. She is extremely unapproachable if you ask her a question she makes you feel stupid for asking. Marks assignments really slow we did not know our mark going into the final exam because she had'nt finished marking our presentations my advice STAY AWAY
She is clearly knowledgeable with the subject matter but fails to convey her knowledge to students. Her lectures are completely unorganized and she is extremely vague when outlining assignments! The only redeeming quality of the class are the great TAs! Probably the worst prof. I've had so far.
Terrible Prof. I would not reccomend her to anyone. She has her opinions, but tries to impose those on you. Thus, if you differ with her she makes you feel stupid. She walks around class and 'looks over your shoulder' makes you feel like you're a first grader. Her notes are really unorganized. Overall she is just a rude and obnoxious professor.
im sorry, to have a mid term and the day before the mid term say its not gonna be on text book is just dumb, i wasted my money for no reason the only reason we bought the book is because she wrote it, completley useless book and waste of money!!! no doubt she know this topic but she doesnt teach it! if she can teach it so can I!
Voyageur is as useless as they come. She can't complete a coherent sentence to save her life. She did not mark ANYTHING in this class herself; the TA marked all assignments, tests and projects. Her class has no structure, has NO sociological content and fails to contribute anything constructive to the department of Sociology.
I had Cora for both SOCI307 and SOCI313. If she knows who you are, you'll do better. Her lecture material was a bit disorganized in visual presentation, but if you took notes on what she was saying, it was easier. Cora knows what she's talking about, but you have to be prepared to go to ALL of her classes and pay attention. She is not an easy prof
I went into this class assuming it would be a Sociology class. It was not. It was more of a History class. She was *very* biased with her information. The TA did all the marking and was more of a personal assistant. As disappointed as I was with the class, I got a fairly good mark with little effort. But would not suggest her to anyone.
By far, the worst professor at U of C.. I have never disliked a person so much in my entire life. She pretends to know what shes talking about.. but honestly doesn't have a clue. She goes completely off topic, * seems to have personal issues against some people. If you aren't staring at her the entire class she'll give u dirty looks all class.
AVOIDAn absolutley terrible professor! This class has no sociological content. Voyageur spent half the course going over the history of aboriginal people. Impossible to know what she plans to test on. Very disrespectful to student. Very disorganized, arrogant and not knowledgeable at all. If you ask her a question, she will bull her way through it.
Only review I will ever right because it is mandatory to tell people how awful she is. Always brings up her culture even though it has nothing to do with anything. Tests are garbage, grades on class appearance and is extremely disorganized. she doesnt seem to want to be there at all, nvm teach. Please, for your sake, AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL TIMES
If you go to every class and pay attention you should be okay. If you do the work you'll get a good mark. BUT she is not a very nice person. In my mind it is clear that she is a researcher, not a teacher. Tests aren't that hard, but you will have NO idea what to study. Lots of assignments and the worload is pretty high.
I actually really liked her! She is kinda disorganized and all over the place, but also really knowledgeable, helpful and interesting to listen to. If you show up and participate you should do well. Readings are not super important; really listen in lectures to points that she reiterates, those points will be on the tests!
I have learned an incredible amount about Aboriginal peoples in her research methods class. She is very unorganized and not in sync with her TA's. HOWEVER, her tests are BEYOND easy and her and the TA's will change your mark if you talk to them. Either go to class and take (minimal) notes or buy the book and read. Either or works just fine.
While Voyageur is very knowledgeable about Aboriginal relations, I would by no means recommend taking her class. In fact, avoid taking anything with her at all costs.
I'm actually sitting in her class right now. A project that SHE KNEW was going to take a long time for ethics approval was proposed at the beginning of October. It's mid-November. No results back. WAY TOO DISORGANIZED. So unimpressed.
I really liked her. If you do the readings and go to class you will do fine. Lots of character. When it comes to test and lecture she pushes you to learn the material so you even remember it down the road. She also encourages you to experience her culture outside the classroom, I did and I really enjoyed it! Take advantage of what she gives.
She is very biased in her views and it's hard to keep quiet when your views are the opposite of hers. Her lectures are very REPETITIVE and scattered. Also goes off topic a lot and tells random stories that have nothing to do with the lecture. The test seemed very hard when writing it but I did well on it surprisingly. DO THE READINGS.
Overall really knowledgable prof. Does a good job sharing information enthusiastically, not always organized. DO NOT GET CAUGHT USING A PHONE.... that being said you will get kicked out of class.. and get to class ON TIME. Textbook was kinda of used... more keen on lectures. Just go to class pay attention and maybe read you should be alright though
Terrible planning in class
Go to class, ask and answer questions, be noticed and she'll be nice to you- do the opposite and she'll come across as a terrible prof. She is disorganized and writes random things on the board- make sure you know those as she tests on them. The texts don't get mentioned in class, but exams are all text based. Wouldn't recommend
She's very passionate and it shows! Her lectures on Aboriginal topics are both powerful and necessary in Canadian classrooms. Easily one of the best sociology classes I've taken throughout my degree.
She is an awesome prof! I love her courses! I will take another course with her.
Horrible professor, I would never recommend it. Super disorganized and unclear.. Never follows the course outline, her lectures are random and her exams are even more random... You never know what you're going to be tested on! Never talked about the material on the textbook and yet her exam questions were super specific about it!
I really do not recommend this professor. Do not expect her to be anything but condescending. Classes are disorganized, exams were random and tough. Do not take this class with this professor.
Cora may be a good professor in the field that she enjoys, that being said if she does not like the topic do not expect a quality class. She also has a huge ego and can come across very rude.
Great professor! She is kind, caring, and current. It is a class led by an instructor I wish everyone had the privilege of taking and being exposed to. We could all benefit from Cora, and her experiences.
Cora is very enthusiastic about aboriginal studies, however her method of teaching is not for everybody. She does not post ANY online notes and her lectures are long. She always goes on a tangent when teaching. Textbook is a MUST as her tests are specifically from the textbook. Tests are fair, but incredibly specific. Pop quizzes for attendance.
Cora is very knowledgable/respectable in this field but her ability to convey her knowledge to her students is VERY poor. She doesn't use d2l and doesn't return grades to students so we have no idea how we are doing. As well, she is vague about exam material and goes on long tangents during lectures. Overall, a very very disorganized professor.
Cora seems knowledgeable in her field however is one of the worst profs I have ever had. She is a prof that refuses to use d2l and does not post in-class lecture slides. Her teaching style is very disorganized and does not follow along with course syllabus. Getting marks on assignments or clarity on course content/assign is painfully hard and slow.
Does not use D2L, AT ALL. Textbooks are difficult. Disorganized lectures. I had a hard time focusing because of her approach to the class setting. If you are taking her class, write down everything she says and memorize it. Memorize tiny details from text. Life saver: a study group. Talk with the ppl around you about the material.
She is a great professor and very knowledgeable around Native American Studies. She has a great grasp on the Canadian Justice System. You have to attend her class however. If you don't you won't succeed. Yet if you don't go to class you shouldn't take a University class.
Midterm was 27 MC, 3 short answer, 5 definitions AND an essay, all to be written in an hour and 15 minutes, like does she want everyone to fail? The woman is crazy about cell phone usage to a fault. Say's she's passionate about teaching but does nothing to conduct a good learning environment. No structure to lectures (at all). Huge disappointment.
Worst Professor Ever. This professor is completely disorganized. She is not up with technology and does everything old school way. Doesn't post grades before the final exam. She radiates this aura of thinking she is greatness. Has pop quizzes for attendance marks and exams don't cover readings in text book but random things she says. No good!
Terrible Professor I would not reccomend her to anyone. She has her opinions, but tries to impose those on you. The is completely disorganized and her notes are really unorganized. I would not recommend her as a professor.
Very Disorganized Professor. I would avoid her. Doesn't put anything on D2L not even your grades. You have to go to her office before final exam to find out where your sitting for grade. Teaches like were in 1990s. Doesn't use slides to teach. Exams are about tangents she goes on not the course material so make sure you write everything down.
Honestly I thought her teaching style was a breath of fresh air, she is fully engaged with a lot of real world stories. I didn't find the work all that hard but you have to read A LOT. Warning: You must attend the lectures and write EVERYTHING down. If you never come to school, don't take her class, but if you do she makes it interesting.
Terrible professor! I would never recommend her. Avoid at all costs!
Currently taking this class with this Prof. I usually don't pay to much attention to Rate my Prof. But this lady lives up to everything said about her. She is very arrogant and yet is very disorganized, not clear at what she teaches and ignorant at times to students. I will not take another class with her. I recommend other students don't either.
I didn't mind her as a person, but her teaching style is horrible. She won't use powerpoint so is VERY disorganized. She wants you to memorize & understand every word she says, which is almost impossible b/c she won't explain anything in depth without getting side tracked. MUST ATTEND CLASS. Gives no feedback even if asked. Did not enjoy this class
Professor has no respect for students. Singles out individuals which is fine but the way they are spoken to is disrespectful. Treats students like they are children. Won't use slides or post notes to D2L and speaks completely disorganized which make it terrible for note taking. Has an ego, it shows when teaching, never take a course with her again
Most disorganized prof I've ever had at UofC and my worst grade too. No clear grading criteria. No slides, readings, study guides or updated marks on D2L. Gave us a major project's # grade scrawled on a scrap looseleaf, no feedback. Give me a break. My whole class laughed together leaving class and before the exam because of how lost everyone was.
Do not take a class with her. Ive never rated anyone before , but I had to warn others. Shes rude, patronizing and inconsiderate. Honestly go to one of her classes and youll understand. She believes in instilling fear in her students. She reminds me of Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter.
Prof. Voyageur is really sweet and reminds me of my junior high drama teacher but shes not the best for a university class. She has some rules I dont agree with like no phones and she doesnt want you to come to class if youre going to be late. For this class, she also gave really long research assignments and group work was mandatory.
Not a good class and not a good professor! I find this professor very unorganized. She has no clear notes, does not use D2L and talks about random things that do not pertain to the course. I also find that she is rude to students. She very pretentious which comes across extremely arrogant. I would never recommend her class to anyone!!
Cora is very passionate about teaching. She can come across as abrupt and harsh at times, however if you are respectful of her she is respectful of you. Her grading scale is harsher than most so you do have to work for a good grade. There are no notes posted online so you do need to attend regularly to get the information. Overall a good prof.
This professor it not good. She is defensive to students when approached with concerns. . Her teaching style is outdated around contemporary society. Which is odd for a Sociology Prof! Does not use D2L, powerpoint and reads from scrap paper, Her teaching tends to be alI over the place, lacking direction. Grades also given on scraps. No good.
Not a good prof at all. Clearly her time at the university has been over extended. Gave grades for pop quizzes yet we hadn't written any quizzes. Unorganized. Treats students as if they are not adults. Just bad all the way around
Had her for online learning fall 2020, wasn't the greatest experience, marking was quite strange and was very vague in what she expected from us. We basically begged for her to give us more clarification, maybe a rubric but nothing, we were completely on our own. However, the midterm was surprisingly easy and marked nicely. final essay good too.
Took an online course with her. Clearly she does not want to teach students anymore. No clear expectations regarding what she wanted from the students. Seemed very defensive in the online format. I think this professor has over extended her being a professor and doesn't care about student success in any way. Felt I didn't really learn anything.
Cora is the most unorganized prof I've ever had! She mixes up her own syllabus, and is so rude when replying to emails. If you want to avoid extra stress in your life STAY AWAY.
Although Dr. Voyageur does give group projects, they are so interesting and enjoyable to work on. She is one of my favorite soci profs. 421 and 427 with her was amazing and grew my interests in the CJS even more. Her tests are fair and as long as you do the lectures you will pass. I learned a lot that will stick with me forever. She's a real gem!
Incredibly disorganized, especially on an online format. Constant mixups with content and comes across as rude and defensive when trying to communicate. Unless you absolutely need to take a course with her for your degree I would never recommend her.
Cora is the most disorganized professor. She constantly mixes up her own assignment due dates, is super rude over email, and takes forever to mark. Do not take a class with her unless you want to have several panic attacks.
This professor does not care about her students! when she releases grades she likes to take a week off and asks no one to talk to her about them until the week is over. She gives 0 feedback is NOT CLEAR with her expectations and gets angry at students for not understanding. She is also Very Disorganized & mixes up other class content 0/10 !!!!
prof is easy for taking an online course. Her lectures are straightforward. The only issue was that there were 2 textbooks, but if you read them, and take notes off her PowerPoints, you will get a good grade. There are group projects, make sure you follow what she wants. Although she is not available, everything is commonsense.
not helpful or caring towards students. exams are wildly inconsistent- midterm had zero textbook content, final was extremely heavy on specific details from 2 entire textbooks that youre supposed to remember? the things youre tested on recalling dont relate to your understanding of course content. you will feel how different from other profs.
Content was straightforward but tests were textbook heavy. I had some trouble getting in contact with her and the group project was a bit vague. I would take this prof again with the understanding that textbook readings are a must.
This prof is not available for students. This is pretty much a self taught class and heavy on the textbook reading. She is not clear in what she wants and is horrible in responding to emails. I would not recommend anyone taking her class as I don't believe she wants to be a professor. BEWARE!
Great professor, super knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. She throws out statistics like they're nothing, lol. You need to read and pay attention to movies because the exams had many questions (open book) and some of them are specific. I recommend taking good notes and definitely buying the textbook.
Bad Prof! Stand true to the majority of her reviews. Not available to students. No concern for student success. Teaching style is very disorganized and she comes off very abrupt and rude towards students at times. I do not recommend her at all for any courses. Stay away its not worth it and the headaches she creates.
The course was graded through 3 /4 MC tests, both lecture and readings are important. Sometimes she would seem to trail off in lecture but make sure to pay attention to everything she says because she may test you on it even if it is a bit random. She tends to be pretty defensive when criticized and isnt the most helpful prof but still learnt lots.
Genuinely one of the worst profs I've had at this university. Does not care about her students, is dismissive of concerns and questions, extremely rude and unresponsive over email, will ask detailed questions about the most unimportant statement she would've made during some lecture at one point. No clear grading criteria. Group project was a mess!
Awful course and terrible professor. All I can say is avoid at all cost. The most unorganized professor I have had in my Sociology Degree. No clear grading criteria and a lack of compassion in addressing questions or answering student emails. I recommend taking other courses and avoid her at all cost.
yeah, pretty much what everyone else said. don't miss her lectures bc i wouldn't be surprised if there was an exam question of how many times she coughed during one. extremely rude and clearly miserable. someone needs to tell her it's not the 1950s anymore, so she can stop teaching as if it is. field trips were fun but other than that, hard pass.
Probably the worst Prof I've ever had, she's exactly the kind of person you would expect to stuff a snotty Kleenex in her sleeve to use over and over again throughout lecture. She's an awful person and I think she marks purely based on her own personal attitude towards other peoples appearances. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I quite enjoyed her class. Her tests are hard but the knowledge that the class provided caused me to be okay with a mediocre grade. If you aren't a person who comes to class I wouldn't take this class, but, if you want to learn a lot of valuable information and listen to someone who knows her stuff and provides opportunities for growth take it.
Midterm in 2 parts.. 1part 35 mins, where we had to hand right 2 full pages as a long answer and 5 defs. The 2nd part has 25 mc and 2 short answers that need to be about a page each in just 40 mins (ridiculous time). Her slides have lots of mistakes, no references, and false info. In the final, used random names as defs. 0 consideration. Horrible.
Awful prof. The first midterm was worth 40% of our grade which wouldn't be an issue if she was fair with the time frame and requirements (grammar, penmanship after only giving us 40 min to write two full pages, and 5 half-page short answers). Zero compassion for students whatsoever and is extremely brash and just generally rude
I do not understand the criticism. Lectures are necessary to go to, but are interesting and she is very intelligent. You do need to listen to her, not just look at the slides. Etiquette expectations are clear and she will call you out, but she is very nice. Midterm questions were fair as long as you came to lectures/did the readings.
I absolutely loved her as a professor. We had a small class, and she was very caring and loved to talk with students as they came in. Her midterms were fairly easy, as long as attended the majority of the time. She invited students out on field trips to gain more knowledge and brought in items as well. I do recommend taking this course with her.
attendance to lectures is mandatory. pop quizzes were cool, they were based on videos, and we did a few fun activities, but her exams will make you cry in the classroom, especially when they're worth 40-45% and mostly written. you don't get much time to finish them and theyre almost impossible even as someone who shows up to class every day.
Rude. Seems unstable
Was not very friendly my first time having a 1 on 1 interaction with her. Her course content is put together and I think she has good teaching skills. But as a person, she was not very nice and sympathetic at the very least.
You must show up to every class, as any day could be a pop quiz. So much material covered in one lecture. But I think she is reasonable in what she asks of students, and she's also open about her own experiences as a residential school survivor, which falls upon ungrateful students who are mad that they don't just get an easy A in this class.
If you value your sanity, you would drop the class. You have to go to every class and do all the readings, or you'll fail - which isn't hard, but her two tests will still have you crying. You have to remember every piece of information she slightly mentioned, handwrite six pages and forty multiple-choice questions within an hour + fifteen mins.
Dr. Voyageur was a tough but caring professor. She was always willing to support her students in and out of class. Her exams are hard, but it gives students a chance to reflect on knowledge from the course. Exams are multiple choice, key terms, short and long answer. There is a lot to do in the alloted time but a great challenge. Recall study 👌
Marks really hard. Exams are very difficult worth 40% mid term & 45% final. Pop quizzes worth 15%. Does not reply to emails right away. If you don't go to class you will do bad because she asks questions from class in exam. Take this class if you really need it other then that save your mental health and gpa. 🙏🏻
I don't understand all the nasty comments. I think people expect university courses to be obnoxiously easy. If you attend all the lectures and actually apply yourself, this course is a breeze in the park. The people complaining are the same people who would never show up / bug for notes the day before the exam. Apply yourself and you'll do great :D
OK yeah you definitely need to go to almost every class to do well in this course. Your whole mark is made up of a midterm worth about 45% and a final worth 40% and the tests are a little funky. There are random pop quizzes with a no make-up policy, and they are basically a pass or fail (except one group, who she didn't like apparently lol)
