Lots of discussions; he's a very sensitive guy; loved the class.
Semi easy class, a lot of class discussion.
lots of discussion. lots of reading. good course
He even thinks his own book on philosophy does this guy think he is PLATO.

lazy professor - shows videos more than he teaches
too many films, little lecture. hard to tell what would be on test
Mean at first but when he gets to know you very nice, interesting class/great.
really makes you think!!!
very nice but take time to talk with him it really makes a difference!
He is a great professor. I had him fall 02 semester. Some people mistake him for being mean but he definitely isn't. He has a great (but different) sense of humor.

one of my best classes
very very very boring
i hate fowler
This class is very cool. I went thinking it would suck, but now I see that it is very awesome.
Good class, ok topics, but hope you have his point of view, otherwise forget the tests.

Kind of a ****, but in a funny way...he tests only on chapters, which are 8-10 pages long, so u never have to go to class....i don't and i have a b.
This teacher will open your mind and make you think outside the box. Loved his class!
I thought this was going to be a boring class, but it wasn't. He uses lots of videos and has lots of great discussions of relevant topics. I thoroughly loved this class!
Classes are best when there is lively discussion. Dr. Fowler moderates well!
If you read his book, the class is easy! I dont know why people say he is hard! i hardly went to class and still got an A!! Just read the material and the tests will be easy~!
Intro to Moral Issues. Very funny and sarcastic professor. Very intelligent, he will make you think about whatever he has to say. A cool class.
waaaaaaaaaaaaayyy too into himself. if you don't have his point of few you're done for. gotta love how he puts "dr, corbin fowler believes" questions on the test right next to all the REAL philospohers
VERY EASY!!!! You MUST read the material. But that's it.....and you will get an A on the tests for sure. Very nice guy, doesn't take attendence either!!
I thought his class was great. You have to read though. Essay tests are the best but make sure you write a lot.
His classes are a pice of cake. You will pass every test. His tests are only 20-25 questions long. An easy A. Go for it!!!! Doesn't take attendance either
easy class. almost too easy but you learn a lot too. very friendly to talk to. you will definitely have fun and get an A
Horrible, I paid for him to teach me, and I ended up reading books & teaching myself. His tests suck b/c it's all sarcastic and he changes everything into his own twisted view. This 200 level course was worse than my upperlevel ones!
awesome professor. easy class structure. does not take attendence!! but you will learn a LOT from his videos, trust me.
he is a poor teacher. teaches from his point of view. doesnt give enough background on christianity when he bashes it. is relatively fair in class. gives everyone a chance to speak.
It's basically a class about himself and his views. Tests are based on things he doesn't even go over. I would not recommend him.
I've taken two classes with him, and I think that he is a great professor. A lot of people don't agree with what he has to say but I think that he is very intelligent and can argue his point with credible information. Very sarcastic but that's what made the classes fun.
Fowler Says on Tests is ridiculous. Hard class and very boring unless you are a die hard philosopher. Not RECOMMENDED.
Very enlightening!! Fowler gives it to you straight up. Easy tests and you will learn a LOT. Very smart guy.
A lot of his class is about his views and opinions which is a bit annoying but his class is extremely easy. Just read his book and you're good to go. Gives everyone a chance to put in their 2 cents.
Takes some warming up, but after that he’s great and you see that his opinions are to help you learn about the various philosophical ideas, not to get you involved in political issues. *he needs to tell the class this* Overall very good and I was impressed with his clothing choices.
Dont listen to others, truly excellent teacher and very smart!! Knows what he is talking about. He will truly enlighten your mind. Lots of videos keep the class simple, doesnt take attendance, the way it should be.
Love it, it's thoughtful and worthwhile, I like it, and the sex videos are pretty cool too.

Fowler is the WORST test giver EVER!! Dont bother studying it is impossible. He isnt that bad of a teacher, but you will not do good. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!

Great discussion class, it was extremely interesting. Dr. Fowler is a really nice intelligent guy, who gives everyone a chance to speak. The tests are hard, ONLY if you don't read the books designated for the class. So what should you do? Read the books! Sweet class.

very intelligent man. this guy knows his stuff folks. it's refreshing to see him stand up for what he believes in. he will let you know his opinion on any issue. the classes are very easy and relaxed. if you want to, you will learn a lot about life from this guy....
I found him to be an awful teacher!!! You will never pass a test, don't even try studying!
Bad teacher
Fowler's smart, very literate, and is rhetorically strong, but he's not very analytic. I'm pretty sure that he believes that there are no answers. He never struct me as being as historically strong as other members of the dept., but for life philosophy, he's accessible and involving. I hate his discussions, though... he lets people get away with anything.

very intelligent and funny guy!! it takes a while to get used to his calm personality, but overall he is an awesome professor and i have taken him for MANY classes. fair grader and very easy classes. doesn't take attendence either....sweet!!
not good
I ablsolutely do NOT recommend this professor. His tests are pretty hard. The notes you take in class and the material covered do not match up with what is on the test. Very opinionated on religion. You have to know what all of his beliefs and opinions are
Excellent Professor. Knows what he talks about. Listen to him and you will come away a changed person!!
very educated man. makes class interesting and its also pretty easy.
I think he's very smart. So does he. If you can deal with the self-centeredness, he is a very good professor; I learned a lot.
horrible teacher. very un animated, hard to stay awake. makes fun of you if your not doing well in the class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
There is no question that Dr. Fowler is a knowledgeable man. He seems to be quite flexible with what the students say. However, he does not teach! He mostly just sits in his chair and watches the class debate about things. Since he is the professor, he should teach so that you can learn from him. Plus, he does not give advanced notice of exams.
Class was ridiculous. If you didn't think how he wanted then you were screwed. I would rather rip my eyelashes out then take another class with him.
decently difficult class. Tests aren't difficult if you read the book like 15 times. The book is all his opinions, so if you don't want to read about another persons opinion, DON'T TAKE. He does offend some people with his views, but it's a good class... if your interesting in philosophy.
He is a **** plain and simple.. Im honest he is a pompus ****
Fowler Sucks
A**hole... Does he teach? I didn't learn a thing.... videos make his class.... complete waste of time....
For the love of humanity, do not take his Philosophy of Harry Potter class!!! You will NOT talk about Harry Potter!! Instead you'll talk about just plain philosophy, Dick Cheney, myths, and Star Wars. If you want Harry Potter, take Popular Literature. In this class you're luck if Harry Potter is mentioned.

The reviews are mixed on Professor Fowler; however I liked him. If you read the material and are willing to participate in class, this class should be easy. Just make sure you start reading the two books he assigns at the VERY beginning of the semester, otherwise you might not have time to finish them.
I think Fowler is an excellent Proffessor. I loved his class. It was interesting and easy to pass. I think the other comments are very misleading.
His class was completely rediculous....All he talked about was politics and his nonbelief in God... His tests raley kept to the text and most questions were opinion based.. I couldnt stand his method of teaching and wouldnt take him again unless completely nessicary.
We watch a lot of movies. The class is not as interesting as I thought it would be. It is the Harry Potter class.
Possibly the wost class I've had the displeasure of paying for.He mostly preaches his views, bashes Christianity. The exams are based on his views and opinions. Waste of time, waste of money. If you have to take a philosophy class, find a different Professor.
Intro to Philosophy. Worst teacher ever. Asked students for their opinion, then patronized them for not having one as passionate as his. I stopped going to class after a few weeks. All politics here, don't take the class if you're shy, either.
Condescending, arrogant, self-aggrandizing, self-righteous, self-absorbed BIGOT. When questioned or critiqued, Fowler dissolves any dialogue with his students by spouting witty one-liners, and quotes from Jesus torn out of context. Not a philosopher, not a teacher. Avoid.
Ponder this short Haiku: Pompous, Christ hater question and be scowled upon such sly deception

Nice guy, very opinionated.
useless class.. really boring but if you must take it then this guy was ok.. he's nice but a little opinionated.. read the books and show up for class and you'll be fine..
I've had Fowler for multiple classes and I love the guy. He makes you think, which I know might be scary for some people, but its part of being a college student. Read, give your opinion and write down whatever he puts on the board and you'll do fine. He often gives study guides with exactly he concepts you need to know. Would easily take him again
An idiot who taught us about himself and his views. We didn't learn any basic concepts or movements in his intro class. Nothing about nihilism, objectivism, surrealism, nothing at all.
I think that people are giving him too hard a time. It's a philosophy class. It's not going to be all awesome ideas about God or anything. The idea of philosophy is to make you think. If you don't want to think and you are too hard headed to listen to other people's opinions, don't take the class. I think he's a great professor. Hilarious.
Keep up with the reading or you'll never make it out alive. Can be difficult at times, tests are easy if you read, and he is funny and easy to talk to.
Dr. Fowler is the worst professor i ever had. We only learn about what he thinks about philosophy. The reading packet only consist of essays he wrote for the most part. We don't learn about any opposing views. He tries to brainwash you and shove his beliefs down your throat. If your beliefs differ from his he will go after you in class. AVOID DR. F
horrible professor
He's a terrible professor. No was to study for his tests. It's just his opionion
The most distressing issue with this class is not that it is completely boring with no opportunity to give your opinion (It is. Completely ), It is the fact that the vocabulary used by the professor is completely unprofessional and disrespectful. Asking us if we're "retarded" is out of line and beyond inappropriate for an educator.
Worst educator ever. Very unprofessional and lazy. He likes to degrade students who disagree with him. I feel his only goal in this class is to persuade people America is bad and vote for the Green party. His class is more political than anything. He thinks he has one up on everyone with his doctorate in Philosophy. Wow
I got the impression that he was luring us into battle against his reality. I withdrew because I wasn't about to fight an insignificant battle and lose on his ground, the odds are stacked against. And, what he's fighting for isn't valid...He wants to prove he's right...as far from philosophy as anyone could imagine.
I came to this class expecting to be introduced to new ideas. Nothing has struck me in this class as particularly philosophically moving. He likes to bring politics into areas where they don't belong and yes, the tests will contain his commentary on established ideas. Would not take again. I have taken far better PHIL courses before.
If you do not like his philosophy, you will fail. his first test, I thought, was worded for each individual opinion. I gave my opinion and I failed. He made it known that there were 4 people in my class that failed the test and he called us idiots for not reading. Fowler, to this day, is the worst professor I have ever taken.
Fowler is the worst Prof I've had in four years. He flaunts the kids he likes and degrades those having a hard time in class. He teaches anything BUT the topic he is suppose to. It's all about his politcal and religious views. It was suppose to be HARRY POTTER. I ended up dropping the class because I couldn't take any more. STAY AWAY FROM FOWLER.
These comments are definitely too harsh. He is a great professor, really funny, easy to talk to and you always get out early. Tests are short but pretty impossible to get an A. Just study the assigned reading before the test and you will pass.
The majority of this class was discussion which often ended up far off topic and usually ended thirty minutes early. Two books and a packet that he had written himself are the course materials. Tests are hard but not impossible.
I didn't think he would be all that bad at first. Coming from a Philosophy Major, I found his teaching style rather lazy and opinionated. The books were great, in fact, I had previously read both of them and still managed to get D's on my exams. He also likes to start class 10 minutes early and ends it 20-30 mins early. I didn't learn much.
Best professor I've had. He can be opinionated at times, but if you pay attention you will notice that it goes with what he's teaching most of the time and will help you understand better. He's willing to point out that people fail tests and say negative comments on it, but there really is no reason to fail in the first place, so he has a point.
Not a good prof I was a minor in Phil but switched cause the department is too small
Sit, be quiet, and pay attention. Don't sleep and try to look interested. If you don't read and don't show up to class, he will rip you to shreds and you'll never make it out. This man really does know his stuff, and will be quite entertaining.
He is 100% biased with his own opinions and he does not teach critical thinking nor philosophy. He instead wrote his opinions in his own text for the class and lectures his beliefs. You are then expected to know and understand his opinions for the exams
Lazy, Arrogant, and has no interest in the success of his students. He uses his class to silicate his own beliefs through painfully over worded rhetoric. The text for his class was written by him, which make the exam questions his beliefs. So basically if you disagree with him you are wrong. Bad professor.
Generally, his attendance policy is that if you don't show up, you'll get what you deserve come test tie. Nothing more, which is glorious. I found that, where most people here for GenEd thought he was opinionated, he was actually presenting opinions from philosopher's views (i.e Plato) or using his unique sense of humour. No need to criticize there
Tests are on topics he didn't address and things that aren't in the book. If you don't go to classes you WILL fail the test. Only grades offered are test grades. He doesn't care about students, he's super lazy. If you can help it, avoid him.
A new professor needs to teach this class. He puts in absolutely no effort and relies on the students to teach each other based on assigned readings. His only input is various videos between sections that are completely irrelevant.
Highly recommend taking a course with Fowler. He has a super dry sense of humor so class is entertaining an informative. Just show up and do the reading and you will excel. It was a nice surprise to take a course and only spend $7.50 on a text as well! He loves Harry Potter so read the series from a phil perspective. Trust me.
he doesnt really teach we watch video and learn by our self gives no feedback on tests
Luckily, this was not one of his courses where the students have to teach each other (although some times he tried to make it that way). He has trouble staying on topic and also has trouble telling you the same thing that the required reading does, which makes tests impossible to figure out.
He apparently took heed of all these reviews calling him opinionated because he really didn't seem that way to me. Well, he IS opinionated, but it's distilled through humor and vagueness. The main thing I can say is that if you screw up, he will pretty much give you no chance of passing. Insignificant extra credit, very few grading opportunities.
After taking Dr Fowler I will never ever take him again, and will continue to tell people not to. If you're not into learning about his opinion or Harry Potter, don't take this class because that's all you will hear about the entire semester. Every time you ask for help, he'll say "read your syllabus" HORRIBLE "wannabe philosopher"
As my first philosophy class I didn't know what to really expect, but he wrote the book himself, classes are either lectures or videos (mostly videos, old recorded videos...) and the quizzes consist of questions about his own opinions and arguments made in class, or in the book he wrote. I still don't understand philosophy.
I took dr. Fowler for my 300 level world religions class. He is the most unprofessional person to teach this subject. He constantly makes fun of religion and forces his opinion on you instead of giving facts and allowing you to make your own decisions. I'm not even religious and he offended me. Terrible at teaching abstract courses.
He shows a very biased opinion in not only his lectures but on the actual exams. It is clear from the start that he is trying to persuade the class to lean away toward Atheists and Agnostics alike. It is almost immature how the amount of time he puts into bashing Republicans and those with conservative views.
Dr. Fowler, where do I begin... Maybe I could start with his obvious biases on topics like religion and politics. He is an obvious Democrat and Agnostic if not Atheist, which is fine but carrying those views and pushing them on students is very unprofessional. Tests are structured around the book he wrote for the course with (see next review)
"Dr. Fowler says (blank) about..." If this doesn't show clear bias in material I don't know what does. I guess you could say I signed up for a class that was suppose to introduce me to the field of Philosophy, but instead was greeted with what I'd like to call, "Dr. Corbin Fowler's Views on the World." A class aimed to manipulate students views.
I loved Dr. Fowler! Yes, he is opinionated but he is a philosophy/ethics professor so I'm not sure why it's a surprise to some? He makes an effort to connect with his students and gives good feedback. He gave the options to fix mistakes on papers and turn them back in for a better grade. I very much enjoyed his class!
Good professor
If you don't think like him you're wrong
I found the class to be rather difficult, but that was just because of personal understanding. His teaching is fine, sometimes difficult to follow. If taking the First-Year Experience Harry Potter class, attend the bonus point events, and expect a group project!
he's absolutely horrible does not teach well and grades super hard.
I had high hopes for this class. He's monotonous and repetitive. I've never been a person to fall asleep in class but this class really puts me to sleep.
Hes probably a good philosopher but hes defying not a good professor. Theres no factual things you can study. You have to think like him from his perspective to even do relatively good on his exams. And those are the only grades you get.. this guy is a piece of work. Strongly dont advise taking him ever.
Dr. Fowler is known for his participation in Potterfest, having written "The Ravenclaw Chronicles," and passion for Harry Potter. However, he is not as knowledgeable as he claims to be. Between watching the films and speaking about them, he had many of his facts wrong and his ideas were incomprehensible. Class had potential but was a bust.
