No home assignments, multiple choice non cumilative tests, 10-15 point grade curves. Overall, getting a good grade is not a problem. He has many stories to tell students, so if you are into cop anecdotes, this class is for you.

Professor Burke was one of the best professors I have had. His stories and humor had me looking forward to going to his class. To pass his class, all you had to do was listen and read the book. There were no hidden catches to his exams. Thank you Mr.Burke

I rated his class as easy because he makes the subject so interesting and has such a colorful way of teaching that you learn without even realizing it. His classroom is an environment condusive to intellectual developement far beyond the subject matter.

Burke is a really nice guy and his class is fun. He is very clear about what you'll need to study in order to do well on his quizes and exams. Also, if you do poorly or miss an exam, he will let you take it again. What a guy!!! Recommended.

He makes Sociology come alive. Really nice guy! Friendly and always willing to listen to what his students have to say. He has so many great stories about his job as a law enforcer and uses them to teach his lessons. He teaches in a form that makes you feel as if you are hanging out. No complaints, highly recommended. this professor is one of the nicest people you ever want to meet. he warm and very very intelligent. at the end of the semester he will privately go over your grades and allow you to repeat an exam if you received a low mark. you cant but help get an A. This teacher was the best. He gave me an A and his lessons were incredible. I mean his way of teaching was amazing. I actually learned something, if you are looking for a good grade then he's your guy. Even if you are not doing that well he will definitely tell you what you need to do in order to get a good grade. I would highly reccommend him!

Professor Burke was pretty cool (I've definitely had MUCH worse professors at BMCC). He can be funny and there's alot of participation and discussion but towards the end of the semester things weren't as funny and the class kind of dragged on and got boring. Good overall though and you get to make up quizes and things. I got an A. Oh and he's NYPD.

I received a good grade. He does try to help students and he does have rules. But overall, the teaching is not that great compared to other courses that I had taken at BMCC. I learned from the Powerpoint but no real teaching method or concepts about society. I learned too much about prison and not enough about general sociology. Burke is ok.

7' 300lbs of P/T Probation Officer. He catches sex offenders in his spare time. Fun class. Very strict on attendance. 2 tests, 1 quiz, 1 final. Gives 3 hour final exam review (optional). Uses slideshows, not chalk. You will learn a lot. Read book for an A; only listen to lectures for a B. Participation suggested to improve grade. Smart man.

This prof is tough but interesting. Attend his classes if you don't want to fail.He marks latenesses so don't be late. He'll give you a chance to re-take tests but you must study to pass. Read the book. He gives useful notes and you should study them for a test.

He's just strict about little stuff. Like if you use your phoneare late by even a minute use the bathroom during his lecture or miss class you lose points on your next test. If you can deal your 34 on your way to an A. There's 3 tests and 1 paper due at the end. You never have to bring the tb to class you don't need one.

Never be late and use gadgets during class or you will fail. 3 exams plus a ground ball quiz to boost your grades and a final paper. 1st exam is short essay questions. 2nd exam is multiple choice (easiest). 3rd exam (final) multiple choice (open book). Ground ball quiz (key terms from the book) again very easy. You will learn alot from him. got A.

So glad I picked this class. Some times the reviews are fake. But this one was dead on prof. Burke does not accept lateness or cell phone use outside of breaks. Its about respect. Participate, read and take the class seriously and you will pass.

Hands down, the best lecturer in the world. I was extremely sick during the semester and had to miss a class, and I was SO upset because I was going to miss one of Burke's lectures. Pro Burke works very hard for his students, and if the students put the work in too, you'll be fine. His test can be hard to understand, so you really need to have a broad mastery of the terms and how they apply. If you are interested in a real-world class, with real-world talk, this is your place!

Professor Burke is very understanding/caring and a great professor for criminal justice. No homework just read the slides and the exams are heavily based on them which is kind of easy at least for me. 2 tests , short paper, final and easy quiz that replace one of your test grades. Easy A class

He is a very caring, hilarious, engaging professor. He was an ex-parole officer so therefore he has some hands-on experience. He makes sure that everyone understands the topics so don't be afraid to ask questions. If you are having some problems/difficulties talk to him so that ya can work something out.
