He's a really good teacher for a hard subject. Very fair and always willing to help out.
Dr. Causey is an awesome professor, especially for a subject many students are afraid of. I previously took this class and dropped it, but with Dr. Causey, my lowest test grade so far has been an 81 (compared to the MUCH lower grades I received previously). He is also very helpful in his office hours and holds a review session right before an exam.
I had him for bio-org chemistry. He's a great teacher. He's willing to go over a topic if you do not understand it. Do the homework he assigns (though it's not graded)and you will pass. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives popquizzes so be there as much as you can.the quizzes helped my grades. He made a really hard topic much more understandable.
I took his BioOrganic Chemistry class and am taking his Organic Chemistry class. He's very clear and treats students with respect. He's very approachable. His exams are simple(for chemistry). Homework is optional but helpful on quizzes. Takes up full class periods but they don't drag on. I hope he teaches Org Chem 2 in the future.
Best professor I've encountered so far at UNF! He cares about his students. He holds study sessions outside of class before each test and goes over the test afterwards, so you know why you missed what you did. Wish he taught org. chm. 2!
He does very well answering questions during lecture. Exams were fully hand-written(no multiple choice), but he always graded and returned them by the next class period, when he would go over the whole exam. He held review sessions and assigned online homework. Lectures were organized and he explained things pretty clearly, considering the subject.
This class if very hard. He definitely throws some curve balls at you on the exams. Final is worth 30% and it's cumulative. Homework is only worth 10%. The last 60% make up your exams. He is super friendly and very helpful when you go and talk to him. Ask questions if you don't understand, and go to the review sessions. They will help a lot!!
I had Dr. Causey for lab and he was a great lab professor. He did brief lectures before lab that walked you through that day's lab. He is extremely helpful and a fast grader. There are 4 quizzes that are short answer, 3 formal lab reports, and a final.
Dr Causey knows his stuff! O Chem II was a blast, for he imparts such heavy and pure knowledge! He gave out 33 extra points overall on tests! Study synthesis problems and DO YOUR HOMEWORK! I can't stress that enough, seeing how so many people failed. Dont be intimidated! He's very good at explaining concepts and is quite helpful! A is an easy reach
HATE BIOORGANIC, LOVE CAUSEY. For such a god awful class, Causey made it durable. he explains everything very well and is a fair grader
Words cannot describe how thoughtful and generous this man is with his students and his teaching. he really does care and is a super nice guy. His exams are straight from the notes (I mean word for word). he is one of those teachers that make a hard subject really easy. because of him, this class was no challenge!
His tests are difficult but not impossible. Do all the homework problems that he gives and you will do fine! He is the best science teacher that I ever had-he explains hard concepts into ways that is easy to understand!
BIOORGO is terrible. He is a great lecturer. He is clear and lectures in a way we can all understand. His exams are not easy; no multiple choice on the exams. However, the exams are doable with studying and doing the homework to help practice the material. 3 exams , HW and Lab
Dr. Causey should be your first choice if your taking Organic Chemistry. Makes a really difficult class easy, and comes to campus on sundays before exams to help review for the test. Take him.
Doesn't put anything on exams that hasn't been covered in class. Grades all exams by the next class period and reviews them with the class. Holds study sessions on Friday or Sunday before exams. Great guy, great professor.
Great professor. The material is abviously hard and I have never been what you would call a "studious" person until now. Had to fight to pass, but again it is difficult subject matter. His lectures are very clear and thorough and exams are more than fair. ALSO for lab he is 100% amazing!!!!
One of the best professors @ UNF. Orgo 1 is a wake-up call (failed the 1st time), so heed his warning at the start. Work hard & you will pass, easily- you get what you put in. PRACTICE! Great lectures. Exams are straight-forward & fair. Provides extra resources for problems in the Library. USE THEM! Incredibly nice. Orgo 2 strongly based off Orgo 1
Dr Causey is probably the best Chemistry professor at UNF, but don't assume that his class is easy. He is so nice, and willing to help students. Studying his notes and repeatedly doing the practice problems will help you succeed on the tests. Do well on Owl; it will help you in the end. Don't take this class if you're looking for an easy A or B.
Dr. Causey is awesome for lab. He is really laid back and entertaining. For Organic 2 lab he requires 2 formal reports, a lab write-up every week, and 3 (easy) quizzes. The hardest part about his lab is the final exam, which does require a decent amount of studying to get an A.
He gives VERY hard short answer tests and is a VERY tough grader. You must thoroughly know the material, to the point you could teach it. The optional hw is nothing like his exams. No extra credit. Never had a class where I would feel confident after studying & still end up with a bad grade till now. Coming from someone who had a 3.8gpa before this
Do the homework repeatedly. Causey is awesome/really helps explain the concepts. Exams are the homework from the book so doing them & knowing the material make it easy to get a A/B. Makes you feel good about not doing so well & doesn't intimidate you. Never tells you to give up and withdrawal, only suggests it if you aren't happy with your grades.
One of the greatest professors I've ever taken! Extremely helpful and clear, I always knew what was expected of me. Orgo I is difficult but he helped make it less terrifying. If I had to take Orgo II I would take it with him without a second thought. Compassionate, funny, and smart. You're going to work hard, but his lectures help so much.
Professor Causey is a good teacher for Organic Chemistry Students, he explains things in detail and also applies material to real life examples. As long as you practice with the worksheets he posts online and complete the homework in this class, you're going to pass. Would recommend buying solution manual to check answers. Fair grader.
Causey as a person is very kind and ready to help. He really wants you to succeed. Your grades only come from tests. My class is failing (collectively). I go to SI sessions almost every day, read two other books for Orgo I, and see him in his office. Still failing. His tests are just different enough to make you fail. Wouldn't pick him.
Dr. Causey is wonderful. I had him for both Orgo 1 and 2 and he was awesome both semesters. He is concise/exact in his lectures and doesn't try to trick you on exams. He bases his questions off of lecture examples and book problems. There are no tricks. If you understand why the homework answers are what they are, you'll be fine on the exam.
Causey is an excellent choice for Orgo 1. He takes very complicated ideas and makes them so easy to grasp. The class isn't easy and requires a lot of time but he is a wonderful choice. Funny, smart, really cute, and very helpful outside of class! DO THE HOMEWORK AND WORKSHEETS AND GO TO CLASS!!!! Attendance is vital! Better than reading the book!
Prof. Causey isn't a good teacher. The way he explains things is boring & confusing. The tests are so hard. I have made all A's in college so far & I failed this class. I went to take the final at the wrong time accidentally & he gave me a 0 & wouldn't let me take it. Even if you have a Doctors note, he will not let you retake any test. Dont take!
This was his first semester teaching General Chemistry I Lecture. The lectures all came from the textbook, however many sections were not covered in lectures or on the tests. MasteringChemistry were the only assignments aside from the tests and one quiz. Lowest test grade is weighted lower than the rest. Final is cumulative.
Strong lecturer but does the bare minimum in an out of class. Not very accessible, seems more concerned with his research than success of students. I wrote a negative, respectful review about him and it was deleted. Dont believe the 4.5 rating
Professor Casuey was amazing! His lectures are very clear, as long as you do the book problems and mastering you will ace the exams. Chemistry is a tough class to understand but he makes it easier. Wish he taught Chem 2!!
If you want to teach yourself take this class. He brings in a printed powerpoint and just writes that on the board, then the rest of the time you have to teach yourself. I dropped the class because i failed 2 tests and wasn't gonna pass the third. He does not do examples on the board, or at least like the ones on the test.
Professor Causey is excellent! He doesn't expect you to be present for lectures, but he's very thorough and I didn't really the textbook. All he grades are 4 exams, (lowest is worth a lower percentage than the rest.) and Mastering online homework, NO quizzes. Do good in lecture and do better in Lab and that is one easy A -but material IS difficult!
All he does is lecture. He prints out a PowerPoint for his own use and then rewrites it on the board. He knows what hes talking about but youll have to go home, do practice problems, and the SI to have a decent grade. His lectures are extensive.
I tried taking him before and withdrew. Tried Lane this semester and she was 10x better(I have an A now)! Causey only gave general examples while lane goes more in depth. I had the stomach flu and still with a doctor's note he gave me a zero & said "sorry I guess its not your semester to take organic." Some people love him but I'm not really a fan.
He is great at teaching in lecture, he is very smart and explains material well. My biggest complaint is that the exams only cover a small fraction of the 4 chapters it's supposed to be on. The material we spend a lot of time on in class is rarely on the test. You'll spend hours studying the main concepts to get to the test and none of it be on it.
He is a nice guy. I really liked his teaching style because he wrote out nots on the board. There are 3 midterms and 1 final which are all from his notes. You can ask him questions and he'll definitely try his best to answer them. I would definitely recommend.
I had Causey for both Orgo 1 and 2. In Orgo 1 I did really well and he was very clear about what he expected from you. In Orgo 2 he lectured extensively but because it was the summer we moved very fast. He is not impossible but he does expect you to practice A LOT on your own time. Go to SI! Avoid memorizing because you wont pass his exams
I'd crushed Chemistry to the point of cocky until this course and was considering becoming a tutor or SI. I dislike him as a person as much as I dislike his teaching methodologies. He's make certain to not engage with you with eye contact.
Causey is such a sublime person and teacher. He cares so much about his students, it's unreal. I didn't do too well in Orgo II, but it was completely my fault. I didn't do any of the homework and I only studied the day before his exams. Be ready to work, but don't be afraid to ask questions or talk to him outside of class. He's a really nice guy
This is, by no exaggeration, the BEST prof I have ever had. Exceedingly knowledgeable about the material, he is ready to answer any Q you have. His lectures are easy to understand, and if you have any Qs, he is so helpful and caring in his office hours. I have taken him for 2 sciences so far, and I will take him for all the others when possible!
Causey has great lectures and answers questions as he goes along. There is just one homework assignment for every chapter so stay on top of those. His tests are really short and the questions are usually pretty surface level.
He's chill. He lectures clearly. Its just a subject where you have to practice and there is a lot of material. He grades a bit harshly. But the tests are straight forward and he dosent try to trick you.
Dr. Causey was a great professor! He is probably one of the best I have had at UNF. He is super knowledgable and enjoys tackling a very difficult subject. There is no way around it, Orgo 2 is a hard class and he expects a lot of you. Be sure to go to his office hours the second you realize you are struggling, and start studying for exams early!!
Hes an awesome and understanding teacher. If you know that you are struggling, go to his office hours. He takes you step-by-step until you understand it. Study your notes and do homework problems. He really likes mechanisms and it will help you too. BEST ORGO TEACHER!
Good teacher, I learned a lot, but his teachings are disconnected from exams and homework. He'll lecture on some things but doesn't assess those things in the way he taught them, which makes tests very unpredictable and hard to study for and homework sometimes frustrating. Was accessible outside of class, often doesn't answer q's very clearly.
What an amazing professor. He truly cares about the material, and explains things in a way which helps people understand the tough material. The only criticism I have is that his homework/worksheets are useless and don't reflect the exams. Exams are lecture heavy. I wouldn't take again simply because you never know what to expect which is worrisome
This is an extremely difficult course. I don't think the homework is a fair reflection of the exams.
One of my first classes ever at UNF. Super hard compared to my previous school FSCJ. I had no idea what SI was but once I went it was extremely helpful but it was too late at that point. EVERY test had about 3 or more mechanisms and if you missed one charge you got most of it wrong. Homework and worksheets hardly helped at all.
Absolute best professor ever, cannot say enough good things about him. Does partial credit on tests and quizzes so you almost never get the whole thing wrong. His lectures are explained really well and he's always willing to explain again or in a different way and he's never annoyed at questions. I'm absolutely taking his orgo 2 class.
His GC1 lecture isn't exactly easy, but he's a good teacher. He doesn't take attendance, but if you don't get the notes from lecture you won't pass. Explains hard concepts really well, happy to answer questions, overall nice guy. SI is super helpful. Pay attention in lecture and study his example problems and you'll be good.
I'll let u decide: Pros: great professor, gives partial credit, always willing to help, explains the material in depth, drops the lowest quiz Cons: worksheets are useless, SI is ur best bet to prepare yourself for the exams because u never know what to expect for his finals, final was cumulative *I'm taking him for Orgo II.
Taken for Orgo Chem 1. Not a bad prof, personally don't like his lecture style. No ppt, all notes are on whiteboard. He does not write down 80% of things tht he says. Wont directly give you info. He is the type to "ask questions" to get you to learn. Barely any examples of types Q's on test. Must attend SI & problem solving sessions to do well.
Causey is probably the best professor I have ever had. And hes not hard on the eyes either. His lectures are interesting, clear, and thorough. There are only 4 exams and 3 quizzes (no hw grades), so do all of his recommended book problems and posted worksheet problems. GO TO CLASS, every class. And see him during office hours.
Best professor I've ever had, and made Orgo a fun and relatively easy subject, and I ended up changing my major to chem because his class was so awesome. He breaks things down very well and does not judge at all for questions or wrong answers and is always willing to explain something. Tests can be difficult, but I never got lower than an 80.
Causey is an amazing teacher. His test and quizzes were exactly what you would expect. Your biggest help is office hours and SI!! You must go to these, it will really help in the exams which are a majority of the grade. You have to stay on top tho because one bad test grade and youll spend the whole semester bringing it up. 4 test and 4 quizzes.
Dr. Causey is awesome! Amazing lectures that prepare students for exams. Very helpful during office hours! If you are comfortable with high school Chemistry, then the class is an easy "A." Just beware that the exams are all multiple choice for this course, meaning no partial credit. I wish there were more exam questions, but you will be fine!!
Professor Causey is a nice guy, however, if you want to save your GPA, stay clear from this class!! Tough grader, talks super fast, some material he does NOT specify during lectures and expects you to know on exams! Beware.
He is nice and know his stuffs well but very fast and homework doesnt reflect the exams. Graded by exams only. Very hard class I have ever taken. I love chemistry and did well but this class make me hate orgo
He only has 4 exams. I did bad on one exam and it brought my grade down a lot. He does lectures but talks quickly and doesnt write down half of what he says. He expects you to memorize everything for exams. He did not respond to my emails. Doing well on hw barely moved my grade up.
Gives no extra credit so grade is just based on homework, the three midterm exams and the final. The homework is harder than the actual exam. Explains topics very clearly. Uses mastering.
Very tough grader! You have 3 exams , a final and mastering chemistry assignments. The homework is not helpful when it comes to exams. Its important that you go to office hours and SI sessions.
Final grade was dependent on the tests, no extra credit or homework. Tests were difficult and graded hard.
Lectures are interesting. He answers lots of questions as he goes. He's very nice & works with you, but this is not an easy class. You have to put in A LOT of work. Only grades are 4 exams & 4 quizzes. Homework is harder than the exam. Go to SI or office hours to do well!! SI practice is exactly like the exam. I am taking him again for Orgo II.
Dr. Causey is incredibly knowledgeable and seems to know how to answer every question clearly and concisely. Be careful after exam 2, the floodgates open and the difficulty seems to increase x2. Causey will instruct you how to not drown, but he's not gonna put the life jacket on for you. Do the homework and UNDERSTAND it and you'll do very well.
He's good, but after Exam 2 the material gets hard and it is very difficult to get an overall good grade when the class is based only on exams and 3 quizzes.
Grade is 20% homework and 80% exam. Homework is on mastering and is nothing like the exam. Three midterms and one final exam, none are dropped. Homework questions give you three tries, if you get it wrong the first time most of the credit gets knocked off. Don't believe all the good reviews... I would never recommend taking a class with this prof.
Good professor who is very educated on the subjects he teaches. The exams are based off of the lecture notes as well as the textbook questions which aren't mandatory, but he advises students to do them. The majority of your grade comes from the exams. No drop grades or extra credit. His class is very straightforward.
Attendance is mandatory otherwise you won't get what was covered in class anywhere else. There are 3 exams plus a final. Exams =60% of your grade, final is 20% and mastering assignments are 20%. No exams or assignments are dropped, there is no curving and no replacing exams with final exam. Be prepared to study hard and attend every class
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I signed up for a different prof. and there was a switch. I do not recommend this man at all. 4 very difficult tests. NO DROPS ON EXAMS. lots of mastering homework. Homework does not align with whats on the test. I have attended SI, I understand the material, but his tests are horrible. Youre lucky if you can pass this class.
Professor Causey is extremely knowledgeable and gives interesting lectures. If you are not someone who excels under exam circumstances, this course may not be for you- there is no extra credit offered. If you work through the practice problems he suggests for each chapter, you shouldn't have any difficulty. I would recommend going to every class.
Professor Causey is a tough but fair professor. I personally really enjoyed him although I know others who did not. You do not need to read the book but if you want to pass and understand what is going on I suggest doing the book problems. Prof will give you practice problems and I highly suggest doing them. Go to his office hours and SI!
Prof Causey is really knowledgable, is super accessible, and is always willing to help. He drops 1 quiz but not an exam. Study everything he talks about in lecture because he will put anything he writes down on the exam. Do not get behind!! I preferred the bookwork practice over his worksheets he provided, but all the practice you can get is better
He is very knowledgeable and answers questions as he goes. But your grade is 80% exams and 20% mastering. 3 midterms, 1 final. Mastering is harder than exams. Due recommended hw text problems and read chapters or you won't pass! No extra credit or drop. This is not the class to try and cram before exams, you NEED to study. Tests are written.
The ONLY assignments graded were quizzes and exams, which is absolutely awful for organic chemistry. Ill admit Im not a natural at Orgo, but a little leeway on grades would have helped tremendously. There were suggested textbook questions, but they werent graded, and NOTHING like exam questions. No worksheets. He is really an awful professor!
I must say... I was daunted entering this fall 2022 semester. But for those students who are hardworking and diligent DO NOT trust bad reviews. This professor is readily available to help in office hours. If you are not an independent learner do not take this professor. He's fair but does not hold your hand. To pass: SI/office hours/Textbook hw.
Professor Causey is a wonderful lecturer and is always kind and patient. His exams are fair and he is readily accessible and willing to help, especially if you go to his office hours. He clearly wants his students to succeed, but don't expect to be spoon fed. I couldn't imagine a better professor for the infamous Orgo1 class.
Causey's the best Chem professor l've ever had. Only take if willing to work hard. Pay close attention, take detailed notes, learn not memorize, know your mechanisms. Go to SI & do textbook practice problems. No + or - grades. 10% quizzes, best 3 of 4, 2 midterms 25% each, lowest midterm 15%, final worth 25%. Got a C bc I was lazy. As 100% doable.
He is a great professor that simplifies many organic chemistry concepts in his lectures and helps a lot during office hours. However, free-response exams are the only graded assignments in his class. If you're not the type of student that studies constantly, don't take this professor. Most of his lectures don't dive into a variety of problems.
Dr. Causey is an amazing professor! I had him for CHM1 then took him for Organic Chem 1 and Organic Chem II. Organic Chem is a hard concept, but he provides a list of text book questions and if you do them, the exams will be way easier. He also used an entire class period to answer questions for an upcoming exam rather than starting new material.
Dr. Causey's passion for organic chemistry is unmatched, and he has a talent for explaining complex concepts in an understandable way. He is dedicated to his students and always willing to provide extra help outside of class. His approachable personality, sense of humor, and real-world examples made his classes enjoyable and easy to digest.
Dr Causey is the best of the best. He is always patient and willing to answer questions. He supplements the lecture material with real life examples of organic/ biochemistry in action. Dr Causey's lecture style and personality truly liven up the subject matter. Exams are all fair. You won't regret choosing Dr Causey for any chemistry class.
Took for Orgo 1 and made me love the subject. He tells you at the start of the semester what it takes to pass and how to do it. He gives amazing lectures and his exam are organized and straight forward. Easy class if you put in the time and effort. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!
This class was definitely challenging, but he will take the extra time to help you if you need it. Highly recommend going to office hours if you have any questions, but he will hang back after class to explain things too. DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS HE ASSIGNS. Practice is the best way to pass this course.
Dr.Causey is by far the best chem professor I have had yet. I have never been good at chem and somehow this man just makes it make sense. I spend time studying and start remembering and knowing things I didn't even know I learned in class, but Dr.Causey makes it happen. Yes, org 1 is a hard class, but just listen to him and study hard. He will help
I took causey for org1 and am currently in his org2 class. He has a great way of breaking things down and he is always there for you. He is very test heavy and that does make up your entire grade but if you understand it (NOT MEMORIZE) you will be fine. Always do the practice problems and study at least a week in advance.
only counts top 3 of 4 quizzes (10% of grade), 4 exams lowest dropped to be 15% of grade, no curve on exams. to ace class attend all lectures, go to office hours, do all HW (similar to exam), Do SI exam sheets (reflective of exam content). Study at least a week before. class is doable, just needs a lot of time studying. Great guy! super helpful!
Org 2 is a very difficult class. He is a very tough professor with very high expectations for his students. You have to put in the work outside of assigned tests/homework. He is willing to help if you go to him. Be ready to work hard the whole semester.
I took Causey for org 1 and now 2. While the class is very hard, he makes it make sense. You do have to put in the effort, practice problems, si worksheets and exams, and office hours if still struggling, but how he teaches and conveys the information makes it click when you think its not going to. Still org 2 is hardest class ive took, study hard.
Causey has to be by far one of my favorite professors I have taken so far. He is knowledgeable in the content that we learn. I won't lie, orgo II is definitely a difficult course but that just means you should take initiative and help yourself by going to SI, tutoring, office hours, DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS. Just going to lecture will not help you pass
he is amazing
Easiest A ever. He is a great professor and actually cares about his students. The way he teaches the topics are also interesting as well as the lectures be short so it's easy to comprehend the class material. There are hws for each chapter and 4 tests, but one is dropped and I'm dropping the final. Overall great dude would take again.
genuinely an good professor, he cares about his students and makes lessons digestible and easy to understand. homework for each chapter (drops 2) and 4 exams (drops 1) and graded attedance. honestly i would take another course with him again.
This professor in the chemistry department of UNF and the other professor that teaches orgo 2 are both very awful. The grade is 90% test based for both, and ALEKS does almost nothing. If you struggle with orgo, don't do orgo 2 at UNF. They only have these two awful professors. I highly recommend you go somewhere else and transfer credit back to UNF
I dropped a few weeks after midterm, I thought causey would be better than Mei, but this class was worse. He did not care at all when half the class was failing each exam and advised those students to drop because it'd be hard to pass his class. The tests look nothing like homework, he gives easy examples in class/hw then hard ones for the exam.
the best prof i have had in my whole life. he is so easy to pay attention to and understand. i was so scared for orgo and he made it sm better. our SI instructor quit so he has been holding his own SI all semester. such a great person and teacher. i have never understood a topic the way i do orgo because of him. TAKE CAUSEY!!!!
Dr. Causey was a very nice professor to have. He answered questions in great detail and made sure we knew the material. The class was 50 minutes long, and he never rushed through material. The content went very well with lab, and I enjoyed learning in his class. I highly recommend!!
Makes the content easy to understand.
I'm can't :(
I absolutely LOVED everything about Dr. Causey and this class. He has an exceptional way with words and can communicate complicated topics so clearly. His tests were straightforward and ALEKS homework credit was a huge grade booster. I built my entire schedule next semester around having him for Orgo II because I loved him in Orgo I so much.
Professor Causey is a solid professor he will work with you if you miss an exam and his exams are pretty straight forward, but you will be spending 95% of your time doing ALEKS HW if you mess up the first progress check, but besides that his 4 exams are relatively straightforward and he will help you learn if you go to office hours.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! don't do it to yourself unless you are magically a genius. if you ask questions in his class he is extremely condescending and makes you feel dumb. tests are 11 questions and all written response so like impossible to pass. if you do bad on the exams there's nothing you can do to recover. there is no drop exam, little to no EC!!!
No. No. No.
Hes great I reccommend. Go to SI and do his practice problems
