One of the best chem instructors at GCC. So kind and so helpful. He WANTS you to do well in his class. Definitely recommend taking him!
Jamieson is very straight forward. His test are exactly like his practice exams and emphasize what he says in lecture. Do the practice problems in the book. His tests are mostly multiple choice, but he puts in answers he knows people will get if they make certain mistakes so read carefully. He also loves to set this on fire. definitely take him
He is organized & sticks to the syllabus in case you are absent you'll know what you missed. Attendance is not mandatory, test are mc, lectures are entertaining (he does a lot of experiments), & he is helpful when you have questions. EVERYTHING is on his website, pp notes, practice test, hwk etc. Read, do the hwk, & practice test & you'll get an A.
He is a very helpful teacher. His exams are based on optional homework problems. Make sure to read the chapters assigned and thoroughly cover the problems. Do all this a week prior to examination and I guarantee you will get a good grade. He is also really easy going and he wants you to understand the material.
He is awesome. I love this guy because he explains clearly and he is fair.
At first he might seem easy, but later on his exams get difficult, and pay close attention to every single word that comes out from his mouth cuz he puts weird questions
He's a good professor but you need to put a lot of time in studying because he's not easy AT ALL. His first two semester he went very easy but now it's ridiculous
He likes to set the class on fire with his experiments, he's a nice funny guy. But, his exams are a little hard so study your butt off
Very organized, always on time and follows his syllabus. Very straightforward, always willing to help, and tries his best to be there for office hours. His exams did get hard this semester though.. So STUDY HARD! Read the book & take good notes in his lectures. Oh yeah, he loves to blow things up in lecture, and he is REALLY HOT!
Jamieson is kind and approachable. He will answer all your questions. He's young, but smart. THOROUGHLY review and practice his optional Hw problems and past exams, they will be your best friend! He is not an easy teacher, but neither is chemistry, so study hard. He does a lot of entertaining experiments and makes chemistry practical. Cool guy.
He's friendly and kind but his class was challenging. Be ready to do tons of studying. He grades very easy on lab reports, giving full points to everyone. But his exams were super hard! be ready for 30 questions for 1 and half hour, with a lot of calculations. Lab quizzes were hard too. But he curved at the end. take him if youre hardworking.
He's a great professor. But his exams are challenging.
I love Chemistry and Professor Jamieson helped me despise it! He's a great person, no doubt about that, but he makes everything so incredibly challenging and his tests are impossible! If you're great at Chem, you may be able to handle him, but if you're not a chem genius, stay away!
It is evident that Professor Jamieson has a passion for the subject, however, he struggles with teaching students in an effective manner. He tends to complicate things and even when he explains them to you one-on-one in his office, it still is difficult to understand. His exams are complicated as well. I wouldn't take him again.
After Chem 110 I should have known to stay away from Prof Jamieson. He's hilarious and always in a good mood, but I don't need that when I'm learning Chem. His lectures are confusing (you need to read the book and teach yourself) and his exams.....well, good luck! He's nice and tries to help, but it doesn't do much considering his tests are hard.
took his class in the spring and was blown away! He is very helpful, kind and shows a lot of demos. always in a good mood and is willing to teach the material in different ways. do the book examples and extra hw you will be fine. study hard and don't get lazy. btw he's super good looking, so ladies at least attempt to pay attention to the lectures
I dnt understand y people are saying that he's a hard Professor. Obviously it is going to be a difficult subject. But what professor Jamieson does is he explains one topic in different ways and answer all of the "crazy" questions that students may have. A wonderful professor and would definitley take his class again
He's a fair professor. I liked him alot. Tests are though tho u need to study alot
Awesome professor. I would take him again. Lectures are always fun. Things are always blowing up. Try to take him for lecture AND lab. He helps you with SI tutoring before tests. Tests can be very hard but he helps enough to justify that hus tests are hard.
he's amazing. 2nd time taking a class with him and he does his job. the subject is tough overall so u have to put as much time as possible to study for tests. gives practice exams that are similar to the actual test which helps alot. study those well and u'll do well in the class. taking him for 102 for sure :)
Amazing teacher! His class was so fun and entertaining! He shows experiments every class and helps it relate to the topic your working on! Definitely taking him for 102! :)
Best chemistry professor on campus! Professor Jamieson genuinely cares about his students and that you are learning the material. His lectures are clear, he's available if you need extra help, and exams are representative of the lecture and book materials. I've had him for both 101 and 102 and both have been a wonderful experience )
Professor Jamieson is a good teacher. He's always available to help when you need it, and he knows his stuff. Difficulty for me came with the tests. Be super careful with conceptual questions.
Intelligent and very handsome !!!
LOVE THIS CLASS! THE LECTURES ARE AMAZING, THERE ARE ALWAYS DEMOS, AND IT MAKES IT VERY EASY TO RELATE TO THE CLASS. I WISH HE DID THE LAB, TOO. WOULD BE MORE CONSISTENT. VERY COOL, BUT ALSO STRICT ON HIS EXAMS. I AM LEARNING A LOT. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Dr. Jamieson is very young, however he is a great professor. He starts with demos, he relates lecture material to the classs in easy terms. He is so helpful and actually makes class fun to attend. The exams are not very easy but this is chemistry, it is expected. wish he teaches 101. will definitely take him again.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PROFESSOR. He was amazing. He explained everything thoroughly, I was never confused about what was being taught or what would be on the test. He is able to keep you interested even through a three hour lecture and if you're lucky he gives awesome demonstrations.
Amazing professor! He explains clearly and waits to answer any questions. Really helpful during office hours. His exams can be a little tricky. He is a tough grader. Challengin class.
Porf Jamieson knows everything about chem. He's happy to answer every question you may have. His tests are a little tricky and sometimes even if you think you got a 100% you end up with a 82%. Chem isn't easy but he makes it easy.
Jamieson was a great teacher. His lectures were amazing. I wasn't expecting such a fun chemistry teacher. His tests were pretty hard, they ALWAYS have trick questions, he LOVES trick questions. The only problem i have with him is he doesn't give students any slack. Hes the type of guy that if you get an 89%, hes not going to round it.
he's pretty funny, and his demos in lecture are fun, but tests were tougher than they needed to be for a chem 110 class. he provides sample exams from previous semesters, and practice problems from the book, but your entire grade is based on 5 tests, plus finals. you must dedicate a lot of time in studying, it is chem after all
Had Corey for lecture and Ms.O. for lab, best combination. Learned a lot. He is so entertaining, but very serious when it comes to teaching. Loved his demos. Gives practice exams, even for the final. I feel very well prepared for 102.
Ive taken chem 110 with him before and he was a little bit challenging. However, now since Ive taken chem 102 with him, i can say otherwise. His test are soo dang hard that literally half of the class dropped. We were not expecting him to be this hard this semester. Comparing the tests from previous semesters to ours, ridiculously harder. DONT TAKE
He is the best chemistry professor at gcc. His lectures are very interesting . Exams are hard, but he gives practice exam. Moodle quizzes, lecture slides on his website. Very helpful but you have to study hard to get an "A"
He was a great chem professor!! I would highly recommend him for any chem class (110, 101 102) Yes his test are tough but he offers practice exams. You need to practice a lot on chem 102. Study the slides, read the book, do textbook problems at the end of each chapter, and you will do well in his class.
Prof Jamieson is a great professor but was pretty challenging. I would take him again if he taught ochem
Prof. Jamieson is awesome. He works hard to try to simplify the material, but chem can only get so easy. This class definitely requires a lot of attention so don't overload yourself with classes. His tests are difficult but straight forward. Everything he tests on was taught in class so stay on top of things.
Before I took this class, I had a strong hate for chemistry but, I really enjoy chem now thanks to him. In my opinion, he makes learning chem super easy because of the various examples he gives to explain the topic. He's very helpful and answers any question and explains everything clearly, the test are like the practice tests too. Great professor!
One of the best Chem teachers at GCC. His lectures are great because of his great explanation and humor. The nicest professor I have ever had. Not a easy class, study a lot before the exams and do not get lazy in lab. I messed up on the first exam, which was the easiest one, by not studying.
Dr. Jamieson is easily the best chemistry professor on campus, unlike other professors he is actually passionate about the subject, which truly reflects on the students. He knows how to explain, he is funny and very caring and easy going professor. Not many like him, would take all my chem classes with him if he taught it!
Jamieson is probably the best chemistry professor at GCC. He loves, and is very good at what he does, if you have questions ask! He's extremely helpful and explains clearly, making sure you understand.
I have Dr. Jamielson for the lab. He is truly amazing. Gives demos, explains everything in easy to understand detail. Makes sure we are solid on what he just explained before he moves on. Wish I had him for the lecture, too. He is the best chem teacher at GCC.
His lectures made it so easy to attend a 7am class everyday. He provides practice exams of the year before, power points online, and suggested hw problems that would be helpful. Returns test graded by next class. Always in his office! Really funny. He is the best professor at GCC (:
He gave me hope, and made me love chemistry. He will always be in his office hours helping out, don't be afraid to ask him for help. Very passionate and charismatic, wish he would teach more Chem classes. Even brought food for us on our final. I adore him :) But you must put in work, and don't slack.
Loved Prof. J. High school left me disgusted with chem but he really changed that. He gives you a lot of supplemental material to help you succeed (lecture slides & practice exams) and is great in lecture and lab. Always willing to help out if you reach out to him. You need to study and do the work, but he makes it fun. Prof. J is seriously a gem!
he comes to class so happy all the time and has the nerdiest jokes. hes honestly really clear(lectures/examples) and basically whatever he teaches in class is on the tests. he has practice exams from past semesters on a site he gives you and he pulls questions directly off of them. a great teacher and also.. helps that hes cute
He is literally the best Chem professor at GCC. Explains the material detail by detail and he's very organized. Eveything you need to know on the tests are explained in lecture, so you need to show up to class everyday.
I'm not a big fan of chemistry, but Professor Jamieson definitely made this class exciting and memorable. He doesn't assign any homework. Study your notes, read the book, and his exams will be easy. Also, his exams are very similar to the practice tests he provides you (no surprises!). He's an approachable professor and very fun person!
He was a great professor. I had him for chem 110 lab and he always made sure I was ok with the work. Now we still interact in friendly conversation when ever we see each other and have time.
Jamieson, compared to previous years, has diminished his criteria for teaching. He doesn't give good feedback and expects us to know the content from his lecture automatically. He doesn't care if you understand the topic or not. There are only a few tests that go in the grade book and he doesn't assign hw problems from the book. (tests not curved)
I took him this summer: the best ever! He was my lab professor, but I wish he also taught the lecture. I wish I took Corey in the fall. He is amazing, does demos every time, talks to us during the lab, and also talks about cool chemistry stuff. His exams are on his websites, also his lectures. The best teacher for 110.
Dr. Jamieson is amazing! He is extremely approachable and really cares about his students. Him and Chamras are the best duo for Chem 110. He's also hands down the cutest professor at GCC!
Changed my major to chemistry after his 110 class. Now im taking ochem 2. Hes seriously amazing. Funny and clear lectures. If you dont understand anything he breaks it down perfectly in his office hours. His class was a little challenging for a 110 class but i'd say everything else about him outweighs the difficulty.
Very caring professor, he truly wants his students to succeed. Lectures are interesting and he teaches extremely well. He's such a cutie too!
I thought Professor Jamieson was amazing. I loved how straightforward he was and how he didnt waste time. I think I wouldve gotten an A if I went to all the lectures. He explained things really clearly and gave useful examples (sometimes fun experiments). An hour passed by like ten minutes. Hes super funny and charming too! Great teaching.
Had him for lab over winter semester and he honestly was a true gem! I didn't have him for lecture but he answered more of my questions more throughly than my lecture prof. did! Really clear instructions, and is always happy to help anyone out. Lab quizzes/tests are direct, and all you have to do is simply review the labs you've done.
Okay I have to start by saying stop saying his cute. I mean he totally is, but don't disregard his ability to teach. Super fun and funny guy. During lectures he shows you experiments that help you understand the material, and does a lot of chem jokes. Chem isn't my major but he made it easy to understand and fairly likeable.
Really nice professor and easily approachable, but I truly did struggle. He always emphasizes on working on the practice problems, but honestly some concepts did not make sense even when explained. His tests were also kind of hard, but I did better on the math portions. This was a hard class in my opinion, go to his office hours and he will help.
Had Jamieson for lab over summer. Mistake to take lab before lecture, as the lectures fell behind to what Jamieson had on the course schedule. He had to do a lot of fast paced cramming to get the morning lab students "up to speed." But the speed, compromising the students ability to fully grasp and understand the material. He tries to help everyone
professor Jamieson is the sweetest person I've ever met. He is such a caring teacher and he makes sure you understand the material. I took him for lab and I really wish I had him for lecture too. He gives quizzes in the beginning of class so you need to make sure your there to turn the labs in and take the quiz.
jamieson was an easier lab professor than lecture. hes a tough grader, but he really wants you to succeed and do good. hell help you with anything you need and will go into depth with almost every problem. overall he was a good teacher, but dont take chem if you dont absolutely need to.
Jamieson is a nice professor however the only assignment he grades is the test, and if you get a good grade on the online quizzed it will only adds 0.1 on your overall grade. if you don't do well on the tests , you will not pass the class. Also, his notes are very limited . On the other hand, his experiments are very interesting.
Science classes arent made for lazy people or people who have a busy life. To get an A you need to dedicate hours DAILY on homework. Jamieson is the best chem teacher in town. He's got what a teacher must have: inspiration. He has been teaching for years so don't try to bs him. Show him that you're trying to learn and you'll be rewarded. TAKE HIM!!
His lectures are crystal clear and his demos really help with understanding the material. He's a great professor, super kind and willing to help if you go to his office hours!
Mr. JAMIESON IS THE BEST PROFESSOR. HE IS THE ONE WHO HAS MADE ME LOVE CHEMISTRY. HIS WAY OF TEACHING IS THE BEST ONE. ONLY MAKING NOTES AND DOING HW PRACTICES ARE ENOUGH TO GET an A. I REALLY ENJOYED HIS EVERY LECTURE. IF YOU WANT TO STUDY CHEMISTRY, ABSOLUTELY, TAKE HIS CLASS. HE IS VERY MOTIVATING.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! Go to class, take notes, read the book, and you will get an A on all his tests. Clear notes but the book examples helped ace all my tests! Easy A as long as you put the effort to go to class and study.
He is the best professor Ive ever had! I really enjoyed his class and the way he would do his lectures. Very interesting class and its not hard as long as you do the practice problems, take good notes, read the book. Also if you have any questions go to his office hours he helps a lot. I miss that class so much I wish he taught other chem classes
Professor Jamieson is a real gem. He explains very clearly and gives a really good feedback. If you do good on his Chem 110, then 101 would be just a piece of cake. And in Chem 102 I am still using the knowledge that Jamieson provided. To sum, TAKE HIM , hes the BEST chem professor at GCC and also, is an amazing person.
He is the best professor out there. He teaches so damn well I love him with all my heart
Professor Jamieson is the best. I highly recommend him !!! Chem 110 is pretty easy, the test are not hard, but they can sometimes be tricky. Overall, I enjoyed his class a lot !!!
I hated chemistry so much before taking this professor. he is super clear and concise with his lectures, and very laidback and super helpful. He gives many examples in class and really explains each chapter.
Chose this over Chem 120 and Got a High A. He makes Chemistry easier & enjoyable. His test are pretty simple if you attend his lectures and do all the problems in the book (recommended). Try to Read the chapters before attending his lectures as it makes the class so much easier. He has 4 Tests and 1 Final. He enjoys rock climbing so take him
Professor Jamieson is one of the kindest professors I met at GCC, he is very respectful & helpful and he will make sure that you understand the materials. Don't be shy to ask him any questions he will gladly help you. Also, he knows a lot of different short cuts or things that will make memorizing all the materials very easy to make sure to ask him
The most overwhelming course Ive ever taken. He races through lectures, gives one example, then has you do advanced versions of the example. He manically covers material, 5 chapters a month, and expects you to instantly get everything. He has the attitude he did his job, now you do yours. Tests? Deliberately difficult. I dropped today. Nightmare.
Prof, Jamieson is the best professor i have ever had at GCC. He explains so clearly that i didn't even need to read the book and got an A. Thanks to him, Chem 101 in short semester was so easy for me that i did not do anything and got an A. If you are a hard working person, and if you really want to learn, then i recommend taking his class.
Made the 5 week semester go by easy. I always looked forward going to lab despite being super anxious about hands on activities. He can be a bit specific with grading, but he will tell you what to study for his lab exams. No surprises, no bad intentions to trick his students. Super clear lectures and demonstrations. Overall an awesome person
The Best chemistry professor at GCC.
Prof. Jamieson is the best chem professor at GCC and the best professor that I have ever had in my whole entire school life. I recommend him a lot if you are a chemistry major. Take him!!
Best professor ever
Great person. BUT don't like his teaching methods. BOOK was purchased but useless. ONLINE HW was stupid easy, but Test questions were picked out of the textbook. He was writing a textbook during the semester. So his lectures weren't compatible with the original textbook. Had to do HW online & in the book to understand. BUT only Online got credit.
Best prof. I've ever taken. I slacked off badly on his first test but I kept going to his office hours after that. He is very nice and understanding but teaches quickly in his lectures though so make sure to go to him for help and do back of the chapter problems. He's a true gem, and I wish he taught other chem classes. YOU WON'T REGRET TAKING HIM
Professor Jamieson is a really nice person and all but expects way too much from an intro chem class. He goes through the material way too fast, gives easy questions to solve during class but saves the hard ones for the exams, which have too many problems anyway. The homework online takes a lot of time and if you missed it on a day you get 0%.
I struggled a lot in this class and it didnt matter how hard I tried. He's a good person but he does expect a lot from you from an intro chem class. He teaches very fast and gives online hwk. But his test questions tend to be from the book. Although he always seems to throw tricky questions in his tests and that messed me up.
Just dont take hime you wont learn anything!
Best proffesor ive had yet. Explains everything well, then u gotta do ur part. If your expecting to kick it and smoke ur puff best believe u gettin a C. If you try and put in effort 100% worth it. Sickest guy.
Just terrible, I dont know where to start he rushes through the material, gives 3-4 hours of online hw WHICH even he himself said will not be any help when it comes to the exam, SO WHY GIVE IT?? he has this attitude of I did my job teaching if u dont get it then thats your problem. thank god he wasnt my lab professor
THE BEST!!!
This class was way too hard for an intro chem class. He doesn't know how to TEACH very well. Examples in class and homework questions are NOTHING like his tests. You better buy the book and teach yourself and do end of book questions to understand. His lab was easy though.
I think what students are saying while giving him a rate is that hes a GREAT lab professor. Hes very motivated and honestly has lots of energy to keep a class going. Although this lectures are not the best. He seems to rush and kinda expects for us to do it first instead of teaching us exactly how to solve an equation, which I wouldnt want that.
I WOULD NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A CHEM MAJOR! It is relatively easy to pass if you study after every lecture, watch Youtube videos, and go to his office hours! The class was full in the beginning, and half the class ended up dropping since they were afraid of failing. Take lab with him too since the information overlaps and will be easier!
Heaven opened up and out fell this man. I LOVE HIM. The negative reviews are from people who probably put in 0 effort. Pay attention during his lectures and study using the book, but there's no way you won't love this man. He gives a solid foundation for future chem classes. My favorite prof ever. Also does cool experiments during class.
I took him during 2020 aka the time with coronavirus and a revolution going on. He had no sympathy for his students, or to try and lighten up on the work or offer extra credit. He is a hard grader and is not the type to round/drop any grades. Good luck with him, you're gonna need it.
His lectures might be interesting sometimes but he is the worst when it comes to tests and grading. The exam problems are nothing like the notes as in he didnt cover them at all in class & they're SUPER hard. No extra credit. Doesn't listen to students' opinion & his whole point is to just "teach" the material instead of helping the students pass.
I took his class in spring 2020 when it was on-campus then became online. He explained chem better when it was on campus. He answers any questions students have. The textbook is online and there were things wrong with it because it was made recently but it should be fixed. The test questions are tricky so read them carefully.
I took his class when it was in-class and turned online due to COVID. He's understanding of the situation and adapted very well. His book has some mistakes but overall it is your ticket to getting an A (read the book before his lecture)!! I got an A+ but I worked hard for it, practicing the problems every week. He's an amazing teacher, take him!!
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. So rude, uncaring, and hands down disrespectful. He made me ashamed of asking questions and did not have any sympathy when my WiFi gave out during am exam. Did not care at all. He also wants to get through the lecture and doesn't explain properly. If you can, do yourself a favor and never take his class.
I really enjoy this class. Professor its very smart and its a hard class but its the best chemistry class I have ever taken.
Absolute beauty! The exams can be a little difficult I suppose, but not if you put the work in. His office hours are really helpful and I suspect no one uses them. I let him down by getting a 98 on the final, but hes an absolute gem of a guy. Wish I could take the class again.
I took him before Covid. if you have no chem background besides highschool you are going to have to work your butt off. Not an easy professor, he makes his tests by himself and can ask very tricky questions. On tests I would find that he would include material much harder than what we covered. But good lectures though, I learned a lot. Take notes!
He is a good example of a friendly, popular professor who has great social skill and hard on grading. He uses his own E-textbook, and it needs correction which confuses students. Exam is very difficult because it's very different from the class practiced during the lecture. I got B with him, but I think I could get A with other professor.
I took this as a winter class it was extremely fast paced and hard, so hard that I would spend 7 hours a day studying and still get a D on his tests, his tests are timed and you cant go back on questions. He doesn't give extra credit. I would suggest if you are taking it in winter to make it P/No Pass.
Professor Jamieson has an extremely amazing personality. When taking his class, you need to purchase his online textbook, which is short but used to grade homework and quizzes. The class extremely test-heavy grade-wise, with each exam worth 11% of the total grade, but If you read the textbook and take notes during the lectures, you will be okay.
Professor Jamieson really knows Chemistry and shows it, but tends to speed through lectures and doesn't like answering questions. He's also not very approachable. The exams are hard and he expects you to do tons of extra prep out of class in order to pass the exams. The online textbook is good and easy to use. Prepare to work hard in this course.
Professor Jamieson is great! His lectures are really good and the way he explains the notes are awesome. His tests, however, are difficult, and even the practice tests couldn't help as much (it definitely helped more than not doing them at all). This class would be so much more fun if it was in person. If you work hard, take Corey Jamieson!
I'm in his summer class, it moves rly fast, he warned us the first day. but he's engaged and actually cares about the content. he posts recordings of his lectures, lecture notes, grades hw on completion, and his exams are open note. It's a really difficult class, but as someone who was literally kicked out of hs for failing, its super interesting.
Jamieson is the best and no one can deny it best professor at GCC
Jamieson's summer class, despite being very time-demanding, is very enriching and you learn a lot if you're willing to put the work in. You spend a lot of time in class (most of the day because of lab time) but he makes sure that you get a lot of practice in order to do well. Just do some practice problems and you'll master the content for sure.
Professor Jamieson is passionate, very clear in his instruction, and organized. The class is very challenging, but if you put in the work, you will do well. He sets his students up for success but Chem is a subject that requires a lot of practice outside of class so be prepared for that. If you want to truly understand Chem, take this Professor!
Professor was extremely rude. I would ask him a simple question and he would come back with a super rude answer. He knows what he's doing, however I wouldn't take him again or recommend him to anyone else because of his attitude.
he's a good person and his lectures and notes are really good, but the class is really hard and he isn't very lenient with the exam score so you really have to practice the work and understand the material.
This professor is unable to teach lower-level classes. He assumes you already know everything-chemistry. If you are looking for an IGETC class, save your GPA and transcript and DO NOT take him. I'm a 4.0 student but his class made me miserable. Ratings do not show the truth, if you don' have a chem base, it is not hard, it is impossible. RUN AWAY.
He knows how to explain the material and lectures good, but tests are VERY hard. There are a total of 4 exams and one final and each exam is worth about 12% of your grade and the final is 15%. Also your lab grade is worth 25% of your lecture grade, so made sure you do well in both classes. All lectures are recorded to go back to.
Professor Jamieson is extremely passionate about Chemistry! He is kind, intelligent, and relatable. He definitely is overqualified to teach at a community college, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful professor. He spends time explaining every single concept. Amazing human, amazing professor!
Be aware this professor tends to make up his own units and elements on the exams, without any preparations with examples in class. This is definitely something that tricked a lot of people and was very unnecessary since it is a basic chemistry class. If you are someone that is not enthusiastic or good at chemistry, then I recommend not taking him.
Do not fall to the good reviews. Prof. Jamieson knows the material, but he is not suited to teach an intro class. He assumes you know everything. His book is very confusing, tests are EXTREMELY hard, the proctoring is on an uncomfortable level, a bad experience overall. For chem 110 DO NOT take it with him. Only if you have an extensive chem base.
Lets be honest, chemistry is a hard subject and its rare for a chem professor to have good reviews. Professor Jamieson was very funny, his lectures were interesting, however; he does accept you to know chemistry! If you havent had chemistry in the past or is completely new you will have a hard time. Be ready to teach yourself.
Such a difficult class. If you have no prior knowledge of chemistry DO NOT take it with him. You basically have to teach yourself. Also he made up random elements and units on the tests just to throw students off. The only positive side to this class was that he curved the test scores, the rest was a mess. Don't recommend.
He is an amazing professor and cares for his students to really learn. He goes out of his way to explain hard subjects and also tries to make his lectures fun and engaging. His textbook is AMAZING! it is simple, right to the point and lines up exactly to his lectures. Definitely need to put in some time to read, work and practice for exams.
Very understandable and helpful teacher but he's the type of teacher that knows the material but can't explain it to others. All my class had a 40% average on all of the tests. Good thing is he curved the exams. The tests are proctored but its all open note, however the test is mostly about stuff that notes won't help with.
Chemistry is a difficult subject and I know a lot of people struggled on tests (my class had averages of 50-60%). That being said, he does curve tests, he has office hours the night before tests, and he provides lots of practice questions with answers. If you take advantage of the resources he gives, you will be fine.
Ive always had a difficult time w. chemistry despite really enjoying it but professor Jamieson is exceptional at breaking things down to help you conceptualize even the most daunting topics. Lecture isnt mandatory but given the dense material, I wouldnt want to miss lecture. Amazing, caring, funny teacher!!!
Professor Jamison is a good professor when it comes to teaching material to his students BUT, the work which follows including tests is pretty difficult and if you don't have an understanding of the work beyond what Professor teaches you, then you will have a hard time succeeding pass wise but you actually do learn a lot of chemistry in this class.
OMG TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!! one of the best professors at gcc. amazing, descriptive lectures and is always willing to help you out if you don't understand anything. exams are pretty straight-forward. if you paid attention in lecture you'll pass the exam!
Chemistry is a tough subject, but Jamison broke it down so well. He had a way of breaking down large topics into bite-sized pieces so you understand. He never moves on until all questions are answered and office hours are super helpful. Just make sure you actually pay attention, if you don't understand the basics, you'll struggle later in the semes
He takes time to explain subjects (and has many office hour slots.) You MUST pay attention to lecture and supplement that material with the book. His "quizes"/homeworks are helpful and he gives you ample material to prepare you for exams. Don't be scared of the "made up" units that are cited in these reviews. Understand the logic and you're set.
He is very knowledgeable and understands the topics well and it shows in his teaching. If you want to get a good grade, you definitely have to practice and understand the material because its sequential and crucial for understanding later chapters. It is challenging and frustrating at times but you will learn a lot.
Holy moly this guy is the most boring man to instruct a class, his online lectures suck with how much he rambles on about random subjects and its hard to sit through the videos when some are at least 40 mins long, then he has you install a program on your computer to monitor you during exams which just feels weird
amazing teacher the way he runs his class is very good his lecture videos were actually entertaining he explains everything clearly and didnt have a boring tone what he teaches is exactly on the tests there were 5 and were taken during the lab in person i took him with lab professor daniel and if you can take them together do it they are very good
His lecture videos are easy to understand, which is very helpful for a class like chemistry. Many resources to help you on the tests. That being said, grading system is very strict, and he puts tricky questions on tests. Overall, I do recommend him, just be prepared to work hard and practice practice practice.
I don't ever give out 5's on here. Prof's Jamieson's lectures are some of the best out there; the topics are clear, and they were in fact so good I never even had to use the textbook (that he himself wrote). On the side, he's a researcher for JPL and is truly passionate about this field. Highly recommend if you're looking for the best professor.
For a five-unit class he is not an accessible man and does not put any effort into helping your students I visited office hours as much as possible in 15 minute increments since that's what he offers. He would make rude comments, degrade my intelligence, and make fun of me for seeking help. Not welcoming and not helpful at all, overall just mean
He is a great professor! Even though his lectures are online he is super clear and concise. He is also available for office hours which re super helpful when you're not sire about a topic.
You better attend lecture and you better not cheat. He has brilliant ways of catching cheaters in his tests and then calling them out in lecture (not individually of course), which I loved. You MUST understand the material before taking the exams. He doesn't make you memorize the polyatomic ions and he lets you use charge sheets=INCREDIBLY helpful.
There is no reason for a high school-level chemistry class to be this intense. You have to watch seven lecture videos (each 30 minutes long) take pictures of your notes of his lectures and submit them, buy his textbook and do weekly quizzes, do 10-page worksheets, and do weekly quizzes on canvas. All of this has to be completed weekly.
This professor reminded me why I stopped going to school in the first place. He gives simple examples but gives the most difficult work to complete. The class moves wayyyy too fast. Basically if you dont already have a heavy chemistry background you will fail this class. He teaches it like a refresher for people who already know the subject.
A lot of students were not going to their other classes to work on chemistry. Way too much difficult work and not enough attention from professor. Most Professor I've ever had.
I took him as a hybrid so his lec was online but the lab in person with another prof. Jamieson assigns next level amounts of work, quizzes, 3-4hr lectures, textbook work, submit your lecture notes and around 10pgs of lec based hw. he assigns no extra credit and is hard to communicate with. i could say more but have no space. do not take him.
Prof Jamieson is a great teacher, he explains chemistry in a clear concise way. If you watch all the lectures and do the assignments you will likely succeed! I wish he taught other chemistry courses, I would 100% take his class again.
Jamieson this is not med school this is highschool level chemistry. I get gcc is harder than most community colleges and all that but if you're going to monopolize the whole department and not even teach in person at least try to understand the students perspective and have some understanding and maybe have in person so we can at least have access
Chemistry is a difficult subject but Jamieson breaks it down in a way that is easy to understand. He provides many resources because he wants you to succeed but you have to put the time and effort in for his class. I highly recommend taking him if you have to take further chemistry courses because it will give you a strong foundation in chemistry.
You will not pass if you don't put in the work!! Be prepared to spend hours on extra practice work. Do NOT skip the lectures and try to "wing it." You will cry yourself to sleep because of it. Make sure to utilize all of the practice quizzes and files. He will also curve your final grade, but it is not guaranteed!
Professor Corey assumes you already know all the materials that will be covered in Chem 110. His tests are difficult, and if the class average is low, he'll assign extra work from his own book that can take up the whole week to complete.
he was good at explaining clearly and directly. tests are based on lecture content & extra credit is offered (up to 5%+ each test), tests+final were multiple choice with a flashcard cheat sheet. the final is cumulative & no outline for it. he responds to emails quickly. if u go over ur test w him he'll prob give u partial credit on some questions.
I had a bad first semester in college with him, because there were technical problems in my part and I didn't figure it out on time, but he was so nice to me when I messaged him. Definitely has respect for his students!
Don't take this prof! He does NOT want his students to learn and judges me when I ask for help. He makes everyone buy his $80 dollar textbook titled "Simplifying Chemistry" when he does everything in his power to make it more difficult than it is. Few EC opps, 4 exams + the final, and TONS of hw. This is supposed to be an intro to chem and its not.
Although professor Jamieson has tough coursework, he is an extremely caring professor and WILL work with you if you keep contact and try your best. There were multiple instances where he offered help last minute, going so far as to get on a zoom call late at night to answer questions the night before an exam. His class will teach a lot.
Always responds to the questions. He is very caring. Offers a lot of practice. The only thing is that his exams are very difficult, even if you know the whole material there are a lot of tricky and complicated questions.
Hes Okay. Lectures slow, I put them in 2x. have to buy his online textbook and do some tasks/quizzes, not helpful and waste of time and money. Tests are kind of hard. sometimes lectures might be confusing. Not terrible also not great. high school chem prof taught better and material actually stuck. mostly used what I knew and did not learn much.
Very passionate professor who teaches from the very basics and goes forward without ever expecting us to just know something without teaching it first. Very lecture, homework and test heavy. Not a class you can go through without putting in a lot of time and effort. Offers extra credit, has tutoring and office hours as well.
This man really understands the material but explains it in a simple digestible manner. He sets up the class so that if you just do everything he asks it's hard not to learn the material and succeed. Textbook and lectures explain the material well. Clear in terms of workload and expectations. 10/10 would take again. A very nice man and former JPL.
honestly if you're reading this, turn around and choose a different chem professor. I don't doubt his intelligence, however the textbook is written by him and the workbook lecture videos do a poor job of explaining topics in depth. I am sacrificing my grade and gpa because of this awful class. he needs to just use the standard chemistry textbook.
The professor is kind, professional, and truly wants students to succeed. Grading is fair and meant to boost your grade. Practice exams on Canvas before each test are super helpful. Just note: the online textbook is ~$100, and there's a lot of homework. Still, I highly recommend him!
He takes time to work wtih you and make sure you understand the concepts in lab and in office hours. The lectures are lengthy but super in depth and easy to follow because he gives guided notes so you just need to fill them in. Lots of ways to get points and maintain grades, tests arent too bad.
Fantastic teacher. He gives online lectures which break down the material well. You will have to buy his textbook. Labs were easy to do and he cared about us a lot. Tests are challenging, but not too difficult if you do the homework and watch his videos. He loves chemistry and knows what he is talking about, though he talks slowly. Nice guy, too.
One of the greatest professors i have ever had in my life I'm taking chem 101 rn and if it wasn't for this professor I would not have been at an A in chem 101 amazing 10/10 lectures and everyother teacher you take wont give good lecture like him
