IS very nice, very cute. CLass can be boring, there are a lot of essays. But shes a good teacher and wants to help her students. Just do all the work and you should be fine. Her mid term is an essay and her final is a project. Not to difficult but it can be pretty time consuming.
Evett is the sweetest teacher! She is so adorable and she loves to make this potentially boring class a good time. She does have high expectations for her students, but if you act like you know what you are talking about, you will do fine. There is a lot of class participation... A LOT! A few oral presentations, also. My #1 favorite english teacher
Evett is nice. There was tons of homework, journals, quizzes, and papers for this class, but if you stay on top of everything you should do fine. She wants the papers to be done well, so make sure you know MLA format! She wants to help the students, and is understanding as long as you communicate with her. Visit the blackboard site, it is helpful..
Great teacher. Clear on what she expects from you. Excellent feedbacks on your essay and what you need to improved. She can be hot sometimes. She has a habit of saying "ultimately" alot.
Corinna was a really nice teacher, ut she expects ALOT out of her students. She gets REALLY annoyed when you don't come to class having read all of the reading assignments. She grades SUPER hard on her essays. My advice is to make sure you do every single one of the reader response journals to pick up some extra points.
She is a good teacher and she cares about her students but she gives a lot of busy work!!! I hate english and it was an okay class...and the end of the semester you do a court trial
shes a great teacher. i never liked english but i really enjoyed her class. if you meet up with her during her office hours she is REALLY helpful. work load isnt that bad unless you slack off and get behind. do the assigned readings she gives random quizzes (only 5 or 10 points tho)
She is a teacher that has a weird style but she is nice and she will try her best to help you and she is also very energetic in class take her
Super cool teacher very nice and very helpful. She wants tos ee her students succeed but she's very passionate about English. Do things the way she wants (which is very clear)and you'll do fine.
Prof. Evett is dedicated to unlocking the mysteries of writing
Quite simply, the best!
Good teacher. Just don't slack off. One thing that was confusing, was how your homework assignments weren't all together. She would hand out what you needed to do, but also, you would need to go on blackboard to find other assignments that didn't make it on the lesson plan. My favorite part was her chunk of green hair. :)
Great teacher!! Quirky..makes class fun!!! Looked forward to class.
Evett was awesome. Shes a really cool teacher. I absolutely loved her. Her class is a bit tough but if you focus and do the work you will pass for sure. Shes very helpful, witty, energetic and a stone cold fox. I definitely recommend her.
Professor Evett is such a nice lady, her class is hard but she makes it alot of fun. Class requires alot of reading. There are group discussions almost every class, 2 projects and a few essays. But she makes you want to do well. Simply put she is a great teacher.
Good prof. Requires a lot from her students and you really work for your grade. Lots of reading and discussion, fair amount of writing too. Some have issue with her technique, sitting with the class and everything is really informal. Can be a bit too lax and really personal at times, presentations are often silly. Highly recommended for lit majors.
this entire class is based on puritan poetry.... you are required to give input in every class meeting, otherwise you loose points. i don't think a class could interest me any less. i had to drop it... Professor Evett is a nice person and really cool, but this sucks.
This teacher is really hard. Be prepared 2 do alot of reading and papers. u have reading homework every nite & get put on the spot alot during class. The reading is all about puritan poetry & is super boring. i dont recommend it @ all! shs a cool person, but wat she teaches doesnt interest me at all. good luck if you are unwise & decide 2take it.
Evette is a good teacher!! Do all the work, share your opinion, and you'll do fine. She does alot of class discussions and group work, so if you don't like working with other people and don't like sharing your opinion about issues, you'll hate this class. Otherwise you'll love it!
Evett is the coolest teacher ever!!! I dot an A on her Eng 101! She is tough and strict on her students but she makes learning a ot of fun and thats the reason why I think she's a great teacher! dont slack off and you will do fine! If you hate English and anything that has to do with reading and writing you are not going to do good....
She was a nice teacher but she is a very hard grader. i usually do pretty well in english but i never got higher than a C on an essay in this class. There were 2 group projects and she has you work with groups for a lot of in-class stuff. Homework isn;t bad but there was kind of a lot of it. If you take this class be ready to work hard
Lotos of reading-some topics are intresting others are not. she's really nice but expects alot from you
She's very nice but expects a lot from you. I felt that there were assignments piling over each other by the end of the semester. She grades harshly and gives a lot of reading. Overall, if you don't have tons of time to spend on writing essays and other assignments, don't expect to sail by in her class with an A.
Fun and creative professor! The class requires a lot of work, but you get much out of it as well. There are 2 group projects, 4 essays, and lots of little homework assignments. She is a fair, but tough grader, which I assume is all designed to make you a better writer. Evett is a top-notch professor. She makes you think and she's really cool too!
Very nice teacher, passionate about subject. Tons of work piled on by the end of the semester; stressful. But overall, learned a lot about critical thinking.
Professor Evett has a very high expectation for her students, mostly because the class can impact the way you perceive the world. A lot of the things she teaches are life skills as well. Keep on top of the work load because it does pile up.
Entertaining and passionate about her subject BUT far too much work given during semester. Does she think students take no other classes? Also plays favorites, which is not cool.bigtime slacker when it comes to grading . She is very strict on deadlines but takes her own sweet time giving grades back - sometimes as long as eight weeks!!!!
I was expecting to do a lot of work...but she makes it seem as though her class is the only one that matters. she is not consistent on her grading, takes forever to return work and does not follow a concise format for grading. She seems to grade you based on what she thinks about you and not on the work submitted. I would not recommend her class.
She gives sooo much work! She is cool and passionate but thinks her class is the only thing you have going in your life. By the time your half way through the semester you feel like it should be finals. I expected a good amount of work because of the course, but DAMN!
She's pretty cool! have awesome topics. She's not easy but not hard and keeps your attention all the time. I had her for 8am which isnt easy and never felt bored or ready to get outa there. For once i found an english teacher that didnt kill me wih boredom :)
grades really hard, gives a lot of work, but a good teacher overall
Yes this professor does give alot of work but when taking a higher level class, there is supposed to be a bit of a challenge. I do love her teaching style and way of interacting with her students.Having to do creative and thoughtful projects/presentations during semester made it easier for me to understand the material.I would recommend this class!
She grades tough, but I loved the in class discussions. I understood the material, but there are a lot of projects and assignments. Group projects are hard, but I survived.
Make sure you do all your reading, and always have a few points to discuss in class, she gets mad when no one talks. Don't be afraid to speak up, she's never judgmental. Papers are graded a bit harshly. Write down everything that happens in class for the midterm and final (aka when people don't answer a question, what presenters called a poet).
Best teacher ever She is one of the best knowledgeable Shakespearean teachers at the college and I have taken at least 7 Shakespearean classes. She definitely knows your subject matter. She is not an easy grader by any means. She wants you to learn and succeed. She is always very helpful. She doesn't just give you the answers you have to work.
She's lovely!! She's the perfect English instructor! This is a critical thinking class, guess what you'll be doing.. THINKING!! She's all about making you think and listen and speak. The group project is very fun and the best part!! There are a few other projects as well including papers which kind of suck but you'll need them for your grade!! I highly recommend her for everyone at SCC!!
i feel like im a better person after taking her class! she really makes you think about the world and where you stand. shes super nice and helpful, but dont be tardy!!!! and do the readings!!!!!
Simply put, you have to read everything to ensure an A. However,if you choose not to read this WILL come back to haunt you when it comes time to write the 2 term papers as well as additional writing assignment. Write everything she says down! It will help form your arguments! Very helpful teacher, definitely prepares you for the next level.
Evett is as helpful as you let her be, she will eagerly meet you during office hours for the 2 term papers and any other writing assignments. The reading is substantial and you need to keep up and take notes in class because the mid-term and final are about the readings are about the themes and specifics of the reading selections. Successful class!
She personally cares about her students, the class was well structured, and we read thought provoking literature. She treated us students like adults and expected us to take charge of the material she specifically assigns to us. I really enjoyed the class and I was challenged to step it up.
Great and challenging class! The way she structures the class really prepares you for transferring. There's 2 exams in class and 2 essays. You must do the readings and have the books! I received an A, but that came with hard work.
One of my favorite professors I have ever had, she was amazing. I had her for 101 and 242, she makes learning the material fun and she cares so much about the success of her students. A lot of writing and she grades harshly, and she likes group projects, but she was so amazing and changed my life. Take her and you wont regret it.
She is very engaging, intellectual, and most importantly passionate! She never ever puts any of her students down, and she is always there to help you with papers! It is absolutely necessary to have the textbooks. She is indeed a hard grader but she gets you PREPARED to transfer. Definitely recommend for those who want a challenge!
Assigns multiple projects and papers at once, yet cannot keep up with grading them. 1 month and counting on paper number 1, meanwhile we have paper number two and three due soon, a group project and a debate. English? Not really, I suggest you skip this class and opt for one of the other professors.
Unless you are an English major, take another class to fulfill your GE. This class is overwhelming. Great content and teacher, but the lessons would be absorbed better if the formal writing assignments and group projects were fewer. I start to sweat every time I look at the syllabus. It is too late for me, but not for you.
If you are SERIOUS about becoming an English major, TAKE PROFESSOR EVETT. Otherwise, many students will be overwhelmed with all the work that they will have to put into this class. She is extremely helpful and she really did make me a better writer, but it all came with hard work and a desire to learn more. DO NOT BE LAZY, or else you'll hate class
Prof. Evett challenged me more than I expected during my final semester at Santiago, like a parent teaching a child to swim. Granted, she is a caring and fun person, and the classes reflect that. Evett goes out of her way to make class interesting. Read ahead. Take notes. Begin writing papers early. Ask for help. This is great university prep.
Evett is a great lady, but a really tough professor. The amount of work required to pass this class is comparable to that of an actual four year university course, which has the potential to be helpful if you work for it, I suppose. The amount of reading is incredibly overwhelming, and her lectures are very dense. Her tests are soul crushing.
Usually, when a teacher is strict and assigns a lot of work, it pays off in the end because the students end up learning a ton. This was not the case in Evett's class. The way she organized the readings was very disorganized and confusing, the discussions were kind of pathetic and the tests were impossible. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN AVOID IT
Evett has a passion for English and does care for students but she is not clear at all on what she expects on the homework, quizzes and exams. Leaves students to fend for themselves and is condescending in her answers to questions about the material. Overall, I would never take her again and do not recommend anyone else to take her. Boring lecture
I absolutely adored Prof. Evett. Trust me, I am NOT an english person but she made me enjoy every single class period. She is so passionate about the subject matter and makes herself available to help you out. She is an amazing individual and wants students to not only learn english but to learn about themselves and society.
Overwhelming amount of homework, does not put effort into helping students, spends a majority of the class time talking about her personal life, does not encourage students at all. No preparation for exams or writing assignments, too many presentations in a short amount of time, she doesn't care about her students.
Avoid taking her class if possible! Grading is way too harsh, the feedback on your work is not helpful in order to get a better grade in the future, and the midterm is near impossible. She actually made me dislike my major, and I have been a good student/received all A's in English courses since high school. Not worth your money or time!!!
Evett is one of the most amazing professors i've had at SCC. She makes you work for your grade which is immensely important prep for university level classes. She is HELPFUL, caring, and wants you to succeed. I had her for 2 courses in the SAME semester while taking 2 other literature classes and i was fine. Read, make flashcards,& you'll do great!
Grade is based off your continuous participation everyday and essays. Lectures have nothing to do with the material for essays/tests. She is a very intense instructor with a lot of attitude and she is not afraid to call people out and call on you if you don't speak up. Waits to the last minute to grade everything. Expects a lot of you.
She is such a sweetheart but gives you so much busy work. Annotations nightly which heavily count for your grade. 4 essays, but she helps you with those with mandatory meetings. Asks a lot of questions. 2 group projects ones a debate. She cares for her students but expects a lot. If you do your annotations, you'll be fine. Just do your work.
She is nice but her class was Unenjoyable. She does not tel you your grade, making it hard to tell how youre doing in the class. The essays are ridiculous and the lectures have nothing to do with the material. She is also a tough grader with a lot of attitude. She decided two weeks before the semester ended that we were gonna have a final.
There is a ton of reading to do for this class and it requires annotations for every page you read or else she does not give you credit. There are a total of 4 essays which get harder as the semester progresses. She does give good feedback on every essay and she is a very cool teacher. I enjoyed her as a person, but I didn't enjoy the high stress.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, SERIOUSLY. Her instructions are extremely vague, due dates are not specified, she is unbelievably organized, nothing is inputted into the grade book so you have no idea what grade you have, she is constantly changing the class schedule, its an absolute nightmare. About 20 students dropped her class this semester its so bad.

She is NOT reachable outside of class. If you have an immediate question, ask another student because this woman does not answer emails. I waited 2 months for her to grade one essay that she said she forgot to grade. Even on the last day, I still didn't receive a grade. Worst class ever. She will smile in your face and still give you a low grade
AWFUL!! Don't waste your time or gamble your GPA. She is unorganized, not clear on instructions and can't be reached outside of class. She DOES NOT answer emails EVER and is just horrible. She is a nice person, but she will tell you did a great job on an assignment to your face and then give you a D+ on that same assignment on the evaluation
RUN AND RUN FAST! Do not risk your GPA with this woman. She is unorganized, vague and unreachable. This class is a joke and it's not funny. I may have to retake this class because of her. I WILL NOT BE TAKING HER AGAIN.
She was very nice and caring, but her class is HARD. I passed her class but barley. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT, YOU WELL NEED IT. You really have to work for you're grade, its not a chill class, lots of papers to write, a lot of annotating in the book. GET READY TO READ. also TOUGH GRADER.
Professor Evett is a great professor, she is really nice and accessible outside of class. However, she assigns so much reading for each class and expects annotations for all pages for credit. She also wastes a lot of lecture time talking about the same topic which got boring at times. Overall, easy but sometimes so boring.
Takes forever to grade anything, very politically opinionated, shows favoritism, and calls people out in class. Not a bad professor overall, but get ready to work. The annotations are endless as well as the amount of essays assigned. Participation is key especially because Honors classes are so discussion heavy.
I took two different classes with this professor, and both times, my passion for English and teaching were severely threatened. Everything in the class felt extremely fake, disorganized, and hypocritical. She claims to be for the students but then shuts down every single idea that doesn't align with her views, including creative ideas from others.
Shes very very nice but I would not take her. Shell tell you to your face that your essay is amazing & youre doing really well but then give you a low grade. Get ready to write long essays about nothing important & get ready to read every single week with lengthy discussion boards about the reading.
just completed her course and if there's another professor out there that works for you, take it. directions were unclear on assignments which gave me a low grade and she seems nice, but will gladly hand you a low grade with a smile on her face. the book she had us read was cool and there were no tests, but a lot of tedious work.
Professor Evett made my English 103 class a great experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent completing the course; it has been one of my favorites that I've taken so far. The feedback she provided me on my work has helped me greatly improve my writing skills, and the energy she brings to the class amplifies the course as a whole.
I just got home from my first semester at university and found myself referencing many of the strategies and forms of critical thinking that Prof. Evett taught me when taking my new classes. Prof. Evett has had an unforgettable impact in my college career.
Professor Evett is one of a kind. Although the class can be difficult and you absolutely have to read, she is extremely supportive and is willing to help her students in any way possible. Participation is essential given that it's an honors class but that's to be expected. If you put in the work you'll be rewarded with a good grade. Great prof.
She is a great and understanding teacher! She also quickly responded to my emails so consistently.
Professor Evett's class prepared me for the rigors of university work. I'm so grateful that I decided to take her class because it honestly was a perfect transition into what readings for university were going to be like and it prepared me to adequately handle a large workload at UCSB. I'm thankful for the amount of reading Professor Evett gave.
Take her class!!!
Take her class!
Professor Evett is a very encouraging teacher. She was a great help with helping with my essays.
She is an amazing professor and one of my favorites! Her class was very informative and she makes it a fun experience. I hope to take another class with her.
She is great and understanding teacher! She also quickly responded to my emails so consistently.
She assigns a tremendous amount of work and acts as though she cares about what you think and how you are progressing in "your writing abilities," but this is false. If you ask for feedback she says it is wonderful and great, and that you are improving, but she will turn around and give you a worse grade than the previous assignment. Terrible class
Mrs. Evett is an amazing professor. All those other replies about her not caring about her students are absolutely false. She is very caring and very supportive. She replies to emails and gives very good feedback on where to improve in your writing. If you put in the effort, work hard, and manage your time well, then you will earn that A!
I was hesitant about this class as I'm not an English major and am typically timid when it comes to discussion-based courses. However, this has come to be my favorite class I've ever taken. Professor Evett takes the time to create an enriching and comfortable environment that naturally encourages you to participate, rather than feeling forced.
Understanding & flexible of needs/impediments if you communicate with her in a timely manner. Prepares you for the high level courses at CSU, etc. Not recommended for first year students, might feel overwhelming. Lots of reading and papers. Fulfilling class for intellectuals! Take notes and annotate reading is most helpful. Participation is key!
Prof. Evett makes Shakespeare accessible and easy to understand. Her encouragement of creative ideas and digging deep into the plays helps bring a better understanding of these classic plays. She is a good listener and provides solid advice when giving feedback on essays.
English has always been a challenging subject for me growing up, but English 101H & 103H boosted my confidence in my writing. I am so grateful to professor Evett because my major involves a lot of writing and professionalism. These courses were not easy, but we have to put in the work as a student. It is essential to utilize office hours!
An amazing teacher. Easy grader, kind and caring, you should definitely take this teacher. She deserves a 5/5 on RMP, not a 3.8
Professor Evett is amazing at what she does. Her group projects are amazing and her lectures are fun, especially when participating and conversing with her. She has specific guidelines for the essays and her feedback helps a lot. I did not like the novel that we read but she was forgiving with the final exam that revolved around the novel.
A larger amount of big assignments, but interesting nonetheless. She also gives a ton of corrections, but definitely good corrections although slightly confusing sometimes. Had a lot of heart as a teacher, and was determined to get us to a good point in argumentative writing. Great professor, lots of big projects/essays, but would recommend.
Corinna is a fantastic professor and I am taking another one of her classes next semester. This is a tricky class, but if you put in the effort, you will learn so much. This course is enriching and enlightening. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities and you will be fine.
Probably the worst class I've ever taken. I've never been critiqued so heavily on a classed based upon monsters. Having no interest in monsters, I continuously found myself focusing more on the topic of monsters rather than English. Save yourself and find a different professor.
Super heavy workload. A lot of assignments are confusing and a lot of group projects. I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you're full time.
Corinna is extremely passionate about every subject she teaches, making her a great professor to chat and discuss with. The two classes I've taken from her, 242 and 233A have been nothing but great and extremely informative. Her papers can be time consuming, but I still highly recommend taking any one of her classes.
I didn't enjoy this class. 80-90% of the assignments felt useless or extremely tedious and a waste of time. It's an online class, but she assigns group work here and there, mostly for projects, which is really annoying. The books are incredibly long and she genuinely expects the 20 hours a week. Lots of extra credit though. Unnecessarily stressful.
Jeez. Unless you enjoy English, I would not recommend taking this class. Professor Evett is passionate and definitely loves her job; however, the very strict essay grading, discussion galore, and group projects of this class will make you rethink if you ever want to take an English class again. Not a fun experience.
Corinna is a very sweet person but she just gives a huge workload and is a very tough grader
A tough professor but manageable. Participate or your grade drops. The papers aren't anything crazy but they are graded harshly. Do the readings because they are important for the participation points. Limited extra credit. Overall she is an understanding and caring person. As a professor she holds you to a higher standard so be prepared to work.
She is very sweet, caring, and kind pro, while having a great passion for students. She provides very good hel and feedback on papers, so do put in the effort in your papers in order to pass, and see her in her office hours. She's very amazing with kind human being and you will learn a lot from her as she's very knowledgeful do take her.
