She seemed tough at first, but it was just what I needed. Excellent class.

She has a different edge, but she is funny and really nice. She likes when you email her or talk to her after class. She was one of the best English teachers I've had.

The class seemed like it would be really hard, like 25 pages of writing in the sylabus and penalties for missing class... but i ended up skipping class a ton, not writing real well and not doing as much work as i thought and got an A, so. GREAT professor!

Ok...you people are crazy. I had corrine back in 96 and 97. She taught me a lot. she makes you think and expects a lot from her students. If you pay attention you can learn a lot from her. I am now a teacher and hope that someday I can learn to teach and push my students the way she did. Thank god she is still teaching.

You either love her or you hate her. I found her classes to be very interesting and her papers pretty easy.

Professor Blackmer is an incredibly knowledgeable woman. She's helpful, hilarious, and entertaining during class. Very passionate and wise about the subjects that she teaches. She's also not a harsh grader on attendance and usually misses a few classes herself. Most of her courses require around 2-3 short papers and 1 long paper and a presentation

Anyone that can say this teacher isnt good is nuts... This was an awesome class.. She is very passionate about Moby **** she loves the whale and will often draw him in class... Class was very helpful and she gives alot of work but lets you hand it in when you can.... Very nice, is on her own planet but she is very helpful if you ask.

Those who've said they got an A in Blackmer's classes without work must be the ones she gave Cs to for messing up. I worked my ass off in that class. There was like 50 pages of work. Get a clue!

Prof. Blackmer rocks! Last year she spent so much time helping me with my writing. She's very demanding, she tells you the truth, and she's very committed to her students succeeding.

I've had Prof. Blackmer for four classes. She did cancel classes every once in a while, but that was more than made up for. She's fair, passionate, and extremely helpful. The best professor I had.

she was a great teacher, not too easy, but not too hard. the only hard thing about her was that she was as previously stated, a little scatterbrained and would get off topic a lot, and also wouldn't give straight answers, but she would make you go out there and do your own research and think of your own topics. she was a great teacher.

Corinne is a very, very intelligent woman. While she is very odd at times, her class isn't incredibly difficult. Somewhat opinionated, but not too bad. Excellent writer, guaranteed that your writing WILL improve once you understand what she wants out of you.

This was the hardest and best class ever. Tough grader, but nice, funny, and smart. You want to learn how to write? Take Blackmer. I got A on all the other papers I wrote for professors. Really cares about you.

Corinne inspired me to become an English major, and was the reason I hung in there. She and Neverow, Rhodes, Hutchinson, and Sonehschein are the ones who know their subjects and actually take you seriously in this department. When I first took her my writing was so-so. I got accepted to law school because of her and am proud of my writing.

The only professor who could teach Beat Lit. at 8am and still make it interesting. Down to earth, funny, and not pretentious. She's patient and will work with you, but she will demand that your writing improve. Knows her subject

Blackmer is definitely the one to take this class from. Assignments and instructions very clear. We learned everything about how to analyze poetry. She will teach you how to write and it will help with other English classes.

This class is so interesting. This professor is interesting and so nice. She's not that hard, but you need to come to class, do the reading, take notes, and work with the books. I love this class! Really terrific professor.

I know Prof. Blackmer's classes are hard to get into because everyone says to take her, but try anyhow. It is so worth it. I was bored in my composition classes, and frustrated with my writing. Prof. Blackmer's writing assignments were so interesting. She was funny and open and caring. Take her.

I liked the writing assignments. You don't have to worry about form, just critical thinking. The speakers were interesting. Sometimes you had to wait for the papers, but Corinne's a really good teacher and a nice person.

You do end up writing a lot, but it's okay because the questions are interesting and the writing is kind of free form critical thinking. This is one professor who won't grade you down if you happen to disagree with her. Very open minded and cares about her students.

You'll do a lot of reading, and she's a stickler for grammar and citation, but the questions are awesome. She's got a knack for raising good issues. A fair grader, makes you work hard, but way worth it. Recommend her. Sweet lady.

Corinne changed my world, and is just about the sweetest, most open, and most helpful professor ever. She cares about you like no professor I've ever had, and I will never forget her class. Take her!

You would think the topic was depressing. Literature of the Holocaust. But no way. It's so interesting and moving. This professor makes everything clear. The assignments are fairly easy, the books good, and there's amazing interesting speakers and Holocaust survivors. Guarantee this professor will open your eyes. Nice lady. Sweetest every.

Okay, normally I don't rave. I'm making an exception for Prof. Blackmer. I got her this semester by accident. I'n definitely taking her next semester for Old Testament, and I am not even that interested in religion. Honestly, this woman could make the topic of boredom interesting. I didn't do well on the first paper, but Corinne helped alot. Have a totally different idea of the bible. Corinne made it into a very cool book. She's not an easy grader, but she will help you. Just go to her office hours and talk honestly. Respect is big. Get her respect. She's a very passionate teacher.

This professor is not as hard as some other people seem to think. She gives very interesting lectures, and she allows students to hand in papers late if they have a reason. I didn't think I could ever be interested in the Bible, but she's really into the topic and the class was extremely interesting. I recommend her highly.

This teacher really wants you to learn, and will help you to succeed. Do the reading and take notes on the lectures. She gives quizzes that are pretty easy and also papers that are short.

I took Prof. Blackmer for a class on ethics and sexuality during the summer. I looked forward to the class every day and missed it when it was over. Honestly, this is the only class I've ever done all the reading for, cover to cover. She's the best professor I've ever had. Don't miss this experience if you can take her. A+++

This was a very interesting class. Blackmer gave quizzes every week, which could be annoying, but frankly made you keep up with the reading. Fascinating lectures, and very nice and helpful to the students. I recommend.

I had taken a W class before, but it didn't help my writing. Corinne's class did. You did peer editing and then Corinne edited your paper before grading it. This system really worked. She'll let you redo work until you're satisfied. The lectures are clear and fascinating. Never thought I could do so well in an English class.

This class wasn't easy. There is a midterm and a final plus three revised papers, but if you have a strong thesis and re-read the assignments and your notes, you'll be fine. The professor is a really nice lady, and very funny and knowledgeable. My writing definitely improved in this class, and I got As in my other classes that had writing.

Very nice lady, but not the easiest class. 3 papers, midterm, and a final which are tough! A quiz once in a while. Assigned readings from the Bible every day of course. She is an awesome teacher! She may be very one sided on her beliefs but she lets her students express themselves in class without crossing any lines She controls the atmosphere and gets students involved. She uses films and the internet to help express movies and images for the students to better understand. You can learn a lot from her!

I really felt like Professor honestly cared about my grade and the grades of the other students. The discussions we had in the lecture covered every possible topic that would be seen in the novel we have been reading. She loves to share about her life, which is quite interesting. She really connected with the whole class and is respected.

I loved taking Blackmer's class so much that I'm taking another one this upcoming semester! It was an amazing course, I was totally interested in the material and being an LGBT student, having an LGBT teacher was great. Participation was so important as well as paying close attention to the quality of the papers you submit to her.

When I first started this class, I knew absolutely nothing about the Hebrew Bible or Judaism. Blackmer provided quite an eye opener. The lectures were amazing, often very moving, and the class discussions were great. You have to do a lot of writing, but Blackmer is extremely fair and provides great feedback. I took this professor for a Hebrew Lit class and I absolutely loved this professor. She is very kind, yet firm. She is very clear about what she wants and how she wants it. Her lectures are filled with humor, which makes it easier to remember the points she makes and wants you to reference in your work. I would 10/10 take this professor again.

There was a lot of writing in this class, but it was a W course and the writing assignments were interesting, with good questions. The professor was really funny and very open minded. You can definitely have your own opinion, and she appreciates that. But don't take her if you can't handle controversial topics.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ENG112! I hated all ENG classes until I had her. Great feedback, had freedom of opinion in class discussions. Didn't have any tests/quizzes, only HW was to read a few SHORT articles a week from course book (discussed them in class/used for (8) 3pg. papers over the course of the semester. Do it on time & it's a really easy A!

Dr. Blackmer is a very nice person and a great professor. She is very knowledgeable about a lot of different topics and is there if you need her. She truly cares about her students. Just make sure you show up for class and do the work. She does not give hand outs.

She's a great professor! She was very understanding when I missed 2 of her classes due to being sick. We did get a quiz every week based on what we read for that week. They're not too hard, just pay attention to what she said in class and look up the summary on SparkNotes to study and you're good. I'd definitely take a class with her again.

Professor Corinne Blackmer is an inspirational person! She is very easy going and she grades essays reasonably. Be prepared to read a few books and type essays but the read is fun and easy. We read books from Yale and talked about real life problems which is beneficial to some social aspects in life. I would recommend her 100%.

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! The five thought problems may seem intimidating, given they are five-paged single spaced, but if you actually listen to her lectures, she will give you evidence and answers to build the foundation of your essay. The thought problems really have no structure, I just rambled what she talked about in class and got an A on all.

By far one of the best teachers I have taken. A truly inspirational and caring individual who cares for her students. I cannot stress it enough, to be in one her classes is to get in a roller coaster ride of knowledge and shared wisdom, with important themes and ideas that are not only important to the class, but crucial to everyday life as well.

I can't say enough about this class and Professor Backmer. I am actually thinking of taking her again if she offers any more courses. Very inspiring, uses humor to get the context of the material across, and you can tell she lights up when she realizes you understand the material. She cares! She comes from an interesting background! HighlyRecommend

Professor Blackmer is the most understanding and caring professor I have had. I loved every class and she kept it interesting and informative. I would recommend this class to everyone interesting in the Hebrew Bible. Also, she handled the corona pandemic switch from physical to online so gracefully and it is so appreciated. Prof. Blackmer is a great teacher. She only wants for you to succeed. The material is understandable and I have grown as a person. Our lectures are challenging but one can learn a whole lot from them. I have had a great time in this class and you will too.

Professor Blackmer is by far my favorite professor at southern. She does give a good amount of reading to do and you have about 5 papers but they are not terrible. She does a great job at explaining what goes on in the book. She also reviews the papers you have to do so that way there is no confusion. She makes class very interesting and fun.

Professor Blackmer has been one of the top two professors I've ever taken at Southern. Her class is challenging, but deeply moving and informative. Be prepared to have your thinking challenged and stretched, if you're looking for a class to skate through, this isn't it. She is a wonderful teacher, a lover of learning herself, and a great person.

I've never had a professor be so outstandingly understandable. She runs a student-centered class where the most important thing is your own learning. My only regret about taking this class is I'm graduating next semester and I won't have the privilege of taking her again.

I took Professor Blackner's ENG 588 graduate course on Queer Literature, and I cannot believe how much I got out of her class--ESPECIALLY since it was online. She is honestly a prophet, and she will always make time to ensure you're successful in her class.

Prof. CEB was genuinely so nice and funny. She made the class enjoyable because she was open to everyones comments. Read each book and their chapters because there will be frequent quizzes after every few chapters assigned. Essays are also a big part of your grade. A final oral presentation is also part of the class. I loved this class so much.

Prof. Blackmer is an awesome, funny, caring person who really wants you to succeed and will bend over backward for that to happen. There were only four grades for 4 papers, but she gave lots of extra credit opportunities and let you revise your paper. She really knows how to run a classroom and obviously loves to teach.
