she is very partial. Dont ever take her
No Comments
This was a subject that very entirely sucked with her teaching. seems the whole class tends to fail with her in charge. My recommendation would be not to take her as she is very vague and very partial, she may know it but you won't
Very open to students' needs and ideas, awesome personality, intelligent but not cocky, recommend her any day

GREAT PROFESSOR! Would recommend taking her classes. If you need help all you have to do is ask. VERY HELPFUL!! Great personality. Ask questions and answer them too.

This woman can teach....she is not partial, goes out of her way to help you with anything, if you hate math or have a problem with it, she is the one to take.
Hard as hard can get. Not clear at all what will be in tests, I was one of three in my entire section to stay through it and pass. Can be rude and belittling at times. Just run.
This professor saved my GPA. She is wonderful and is very good at presenting the material. However, calculus still sucks.
Very helpful and very understanding! I recommend to take her because she will review over anything that you don't understand. Sometimes she likes to give pop quizes which are pretty easy if you attend class.
good professor for quantitative reasoning. funny, knows her stuff, tests are hard but i still remember the stuff on them...
she is horrible if you value your GPA then don't take her only 3 passed the class
Sounds like a different story for calc, but I had her for finite as well. You wont haveto waste your time on homework. Explains very slowly (good for some but boring for those who catch on more quickly) easy class, couldnt ask for more really.
No attendance policy..but pop quizzes about once a week. Not really necessary to do homework either. Easy class, but make sure you go for the quizzes-
Take her if you can, yep, she is hard but she will help you on anything, as long as you are not being a jerk.
Dr. Schaeffer was confusing and frustrating at times for an individual who struggles with math. Recommend someone else for Finite. If you need support and one-to-one assistance, this professor is not for you.
NOT EASY TO GET ALONG WITH
she is not so easy to get along with but a fun teacher if you are not on her bad side. do not talk in class and she is a good teacher. she will help you with anything you need help with. pop quizzes often but no attendence policy. it is not nessesary to do your homework
For me, math has always been difficult, with this class being no exception. Dr. Schaeffer is intelligent,( cute, too) and demanding in that she does everything she can to help you, expecting in return that you at least TRY. I dont understand the negative comments.
she will make you read the book. How do you read a math book?
Not a good math professor if you want to be taught something. Does not teach at all, just does examples. She gives you the math book and tells you to read it. I understand that in college we are supposed to read but a math book, come on!
I hate math, I don't undertsnad it, and she's ot helpful in class, but good for tutoring.

An excellent teacher, just study hard, she is a tough grader. Looks like Ellen Degenerous and is very willing to help. Take her, but take her serious.
She doesn't really teach. she assigns stuff & then asks if there are questions. S
not a good teacher.. if i wanted to be given a math book and told to teach everything to myself i wouldnt have wasted all this money on tuition. not allowed to miss any classes or she'll take off points.. dont take her
This teacher is a nice lady, usally but she was got to be the worst teacher i have ever had in my life. Her test are very hard, and she does not ecplain anything she does well. She goes on one problem for 20 minutes, and we are even more confused when she is done. Do not take a class with her if you have any trouble in math.
She is really rude and doesn't care what the students think. She doesn't care that you have other classes and she could care less if you don't understand something. I would never take her again in my life and I do not recommend her if you can't teach yourself math
No Comments
She is not a friendly lady at all, very unapproachable...she will make u feel dumb for asking ??, and she doesn't really teach you, she expects u to read it and understand...i would NEVER take her again...
i took calc in hsc and calc 1 was a breeze. i went to all the classes and the tests were okay
She knows what she is talking about, but I would not recommend her for any other class but Calculus. She will help you with whatever you are having trouble with, but her tests are kind of hard, but if you study you will be ok, take her only for Calculus. Overall she is a pretty good professor, best I have had so far.
boooo.
Tests are very hard. She words them different then what you are used to. Also puts explanation guestions on the test. Gives homework but does not collect it. Expects you to read the chapters (stuff on the test from them that she doesn't talk about). She will usually help if you ask but she doesn't go very in depth.
okay, First off i had this class as a night class. Secondly I would not reccomend any 1 semester freshmen to take this class. The lady isn't nice at all and her teaching isn't very clear. When comes time to take a test in her class, it will be very difficult because she re-words the entire test. If you do end up taking her, word of advice. DOn't mi
She designs the tests so they are difficult to finish in the allotted time; plus, tests do not reflect the class lessons. Half the students either withdrew or failed (not me). Almost all were in low spirits about this class. It seems Schaeffer wants to morally defeat the student rather than impart knowledge. Her grade as a teacher: F.
Dr. S believes that math is a two way street so with that said. If you do your part then she will do everything to help you. I hated math before I had her now, I love it! If you want to learn and not just take the EASY way out then she is the person to help you reach your goal... Can't say anythhing bad about her!
Death by on-line homework, I spend usually 3-6 hours on the HW alone! Quizzes and tests are tough, not at all like the homework. Very organized. Very fair. You must study. Ask questions during class or she will quiz you. Presents info well. Not very understanding with what life demands - other classes, kids, work loads. Oh and she hates whining.
Take this class only if you are willing to work for your grade. Online homework around 3-4 hours per assignment and one or more quizzes a week. Exams are tough and test ALL of your math abilities not just calculus.
OK, I did my homework, I studied, I did fairly well on quizzes; but when it came to the test it seemed like it was in a foreign language. Be prepared to spend 3-6 hours per night on homework, which is online. My only real complaint is that there would be homework assignments due on the weekend and before test nights. I had no time to study.
She was an amazing teacher, very helpful. Super easy tests, don't even need to study. Definitely would love to take her class again!
I took an online course. I do not like her teaching style. Because, She did not return all exam. How do I make sure my wrong answer for restudy? Moreover she did not help, when we had some online course troubles. If you want to learn from kindly professor, you should avoid her class. She is very strict and unhelpful.
MATH 260 - Elements of Statistics: She demands a few hours of homework, but it's twice a week and you have access to it a few days in advance, making finishing it not too hard. It's her tests that are rough. Had a 50 minute class and a 4 page test. Tests aside, she is a knowledgeable and helpful teacher. Just don't whine or slack off. :)
Tests ARE rough, but good reviews that are not mentioned in class is using the wileyplus system to get the chp. study guides. Homework is ~15 problems every Wed. and Sun. that have multiple parts to them that may take awhile. Be on the prowl for pop quizzes/collected homework.
Dr. Schaeffer definitely knows her stuff, but her expectations of YOU knowing the stuff is pretty ridiculous. I did well on all the homework and understood everything, but when it came to the tests, they were 10x harder than anything we had done in clas. You will need to study A LOT if you want to get a good grade. I repeat, the tests are HARD!
she is a really nice person and wants to help but she gives way too much homework all the work is online and a lot of it is due on days we dont even have class
Shaffer is a nice person, horrible teacher! She doesnt teach anything, you get a book and an online cd and you teach yourself how to do everything, your assigments are submitted online through a stupid program and there due on days you dont even have class, tests are nothing like your homework and there written. dont take her!!
I can't stand her. Teaches horrible, all work is online and it's useless.
Homework is easy, quizzes is easy, tests are impossible. She makes an internet class and twist it into a non internet class by requiring you to come on in to take the tests in class. Her tests are marathons since she gives three hours test that will likely take you more time then three hours. John Nash couldn't get an A. Avoid her!!!
Just took the second test. On first test 95% of class scored between 35% and 65%. Needless to say i am dropping this class now. Homework is easy, Got answers correct on quiz, still got a 70%. Tests are IMPOSSIBLE. Avoid at all costs. She is friendly but her tests are harder than advanced physics.
She is a great teacher if you can learn the way she teachers... you have to do a lot of work on your own but it easy material. I would definitely recommend her!
She is not helpful at all. She has no idea how to explain math to people who have a hard time comprehending it and she has no time for those who do not understand.
If you have sanity and good grades, stop, turn back, and forget this teacher exists. She will not help you whatsoever, instead she gets out of teaching my linking you to videos but when it comes to her exams, if you don't write the work down her way she fails you. She is impossible to work with and will blame it all on you.
Do not take her!! She is not helpful. I had all of my Hawkes homework done way ahead of the deadline, but still struggled in her class. The work it takes to complete the Hawkes homework and quizzes, does not coincide with what she wants. I studied and worked very hard, but Hawkes teaches the problems differently than her. Awful professor.
Elements of Stats online can be very hard. Procrastination will make you fail. Do all your homework and make sure to understand the concepts because the questions on the test will be totally different from what you learned but the "concept" will be the same. If you have a hard time with Math, stay away from this online class!!!
Hawkes is terrible. I feel like if I do one more algebra problem i'll turn into one. But she is really helpful as long as you ask questions. Class requires a lot of studying as you are learning a lot of material in a short amount of time for the tests. Overall, if you study and do you homework you will be fine.
Terrible teacher. took this class over winter break, and she made this so impossible to finish. She did not like how I showed my work on tests. I got all A's on my hawks tests and she took off 20 points because i didnt show enough work for her. She accused me of cheating even though I had a proctor in the same room while taking.
She is the most awful professor I've ever had. I'm bad at math to begin with and really need the class for my major and she made it impossible to pass. I did everything I could, even got a tutor at home and she still wouldn't give me the help I needed.. She made a level 100 math class seem like a level 400 class. I would never take her again.
When you pay attention in class and really try to learn the material than its an okay class. I didn't even by the book, everything is on hawkes. She gives you a lot of busy work that she believes is helpful but it really waste time. She is a lot better than the other math teachers I have taken. She is picky but a good teacher
I am so frustrated by this professor. Schaefer is not helpful to me, and it feels like during class she is not thorough by any means. She isn't detailed enough, and doesn't really break anything down. She just shows a bunch of examples, which I guess help, but I still need to go to a tutor and struggle with homework for hours. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Nice person but terrible teacher. Makes me want to throw my computer out a window.
AWFUL prof. the tests are impossible! SO much busy work and online homework that takes hours and it's due randomly on days you don't even have class. It's basically an online class where you just have to teach yourself. Most likely going to drop the class. AVOID HER!
Horrible professor! If you like to ask questions then definitely do not take her. She tells students that the questions they ask are dumb. So obviously she isn't very helpful, only take her if you are able to teach yourself.
AMAZING professor. I love math, but will tell you that I really struggled with Calc II, but she was extremely helpful and she made class fun. She is willing to work with you if you don't understand something. Don't be afraid to ask for help
She is pretty helpful, but you have to ask her! When asked she is very willing to help and will work with you outside of the class room. She is a fast talker so if your not understanding something repeat it again to make her explain more. She is very nice, just hard to understand at times if your not great in math.
I took the online 260, and beware now! It does not matter how much time or effort, you will still average a D. This class is VERY time consuming, so if you plan on having a life or working, be prepared. She will assign at least 3 chapters per week. If you have questions you're better off googling than asking her. I would not recommend her ever!
I had to retake MATH270 this semester and Dr. Schaeffer did a far better job at explaining things than the previous instructor. The instructor last semester was without a doubt a mathematical wizard, but he just couldn't explain the material at a level Dr. Schaeffer does; a level at which everyone can understand, given they work at it.
I think she is an incredible professor. She is very understanding and helpful. She always kept me motivated and on track. She has a great way of explaining problems and makes it easier to learn. Overall, she is great to take!
Although at times, you will find her frustrating. She is a very great professor who only wants to push you to succeed. She cares about her students passing. She took this 020 course very seriously and helped students everyday. Would recommend.
I can see why some would not vibe with Schaeffer because she is very blunt/honest, and her comments can hurt some feelings. Be a tough cookie and you will learn a lot from her constructive criticism as a future educator. She focuses a lot on speaking with proper math terms which is important to avoid confusing our future students.
The worst. She is rude to students if they so much as dare to not know an answer in class and will call them out, by name, for ANYTHING they do. She gives at least 3 online homeworks a week, most of which are incredibly difficult. When you go to her for help, she will only tell you what you "should be thinking". DO NOT TAKE HER.
One of my favorite professors ever. She is always open to talk to. Her classes can be tough, but it is to push you to your whole potential. I will always have respect for this woman, she has helped me not only with getting my path to graduation but I see her as a friend.
Math 105, but Pre-calculus/Calculus was taught. Avoid her at all costs! She enjoys showing how smart she is by giving near impossible exams at a 300 level in a 100 level class. Took a summer mini and her class dominated my everyday. Tons of HW, every Tues had a HW due (about 2 hours), a 1 hour zoom, and an exam, so better clear your calendar.
She is disrespectful, demonstrates favoritism towards some students. Always wants the most (show work for everything) and takes forever grade exams. She doesnt teach the class the program teaches us.
Worst professor I've ever had. She is very disrespectful, and will give you zero credit for questions if you do not show work how she wants you to. If I got the right answer and still showed work and it wasn't "her way", she would give a zero. Exams and homework are nearly impossible to do and all exams are proctored. All i gotta say is, good luck.
She is very disrespectful and barely teaches. You can get the answer for test questions and homework correctly and still not do well in the class. Expect your test to drop a letter grade. If you do not show every single step of the question the exact way she would do it, you will get zero credit. The online videos that went with homework saved me
She is very disrespectful. You ask questions during exams and she gets mad about it. My class took an exam and we all had to show work, everyone said they got 85%-95% on the quizzes. When I looked at my quizzes again, she dropped my quiz grade 40 points for not showing the correct work for TWO QUESTIONS. Its a very time consuming class, goodluck
Poor attitude, exams are god awful, nothing like what was learned on hawkes. posts practice exams then a 180 on the real exam the exams and quizzes have time limits that isnt enough to work, the exams kill you, based on an average of 2 attempts which isnt right you cant review wrong answers. Also no work no credit, avoid at all costs.
If possible, stay away from her classes. She can be nice somedays, but that can easily descend into passive-aggressiveness and downright condescending at times.
The absolute hardest class I've ever taken. There is homework almost every other day, and that takes about an hour to get through. You study the content and when you think you are ready for the test? Nothing you studied was on there. Exams are 50% of your final grade, so you better study hard.
70% of your grade is based off you exams30% is on homework. If you struggle with test taking do no take this class. Although she is a good teacher, I just dont find this grading fair, especially to people who struggle with exams. But thats just my opinion.
Never missed a class, did all homework but still did not do well on the tests. If you are not good at math tests, do homework because it helps bring your grade up. Most tests are a lot to handle for an hour class. Textbook is expensive. Teacher is very nice though, just a hard grader. Get an option to retake lowest grade test at end of semester.
Grading is very specific on tests or quizzes. Make sure you show every ounce of work and or how you got your answer in the way showed to you.
She is a terrible professor. Only gave a couple of homework assignments. Gives 3 Fluency tests that are worth 100 point if you do not get a 90% or higher you get a 0%. The tests are also very hard. Whenever you go to her to ask for help she always has an attitude with needing help. Overall just a terrible professor avoiding her at all costs now.
Dr. Schaeffer is one of my favorite professors that i've had at Edinboro. She explains the concepts in detail and is always willing to circle back if something is misunderstood. She is more than willing to work with you if you are struggling. See is tough but it is because she cares about her students and wants to see you succeed! Loved her class!
You'll have an assignment every single day until classes finish. These assignments take over an hour to complete. For exams you'll get 30 minutes and have to write every step, but then when you run out of time, you will be told to use the “efficient” way. God forbid if you find an easier method that makes more sense to you, you'll get a 20%.
If you don't have an insane amount of credit or work on your assignment thoroughly, expect a terrible grade. Make sure you document every single thought that crosses your mind during their classes. Every detail matters, and missing even small things could seriously hurt your score. It becomes incredibly nitpicky at a point.
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. never ever helped. I would join zoom meetings to get help and she would tell me that i just need to go look it up and watch her videos after i would tell her i don't get the videos. I then would do so much work. Get the answers right and because my work was not exact she would give me a terrible grade. NEVER TAKE HER AGAIN.
This professor is the absolute worst of the worst. Do not take this class unless you want an automatic F. If there wasn't a 350 word limit I could write a best selling novel about how horrible this class and professor is.
She is not good...at all
Quizzes are difficult and just simply terrible. If you do not show your work the EXACT way she wants it, you'll fail. She's never satisfied. Do not take her
I have never in my life failed a class before. I have been a straight As and Bs student, have never received a final grade below a B, and I failed this class. Enough said.
Very very demanding, had 30 plus students in my class to start and had only 10 remaining during the final
Nearly impossible to understand her writing and is very nit-picky when it comes to grading
Avoid at all costs
Never have I once heard of a math teacher, specifically online make you do 12-18 answer questions in a span of 30 minutes, I am a B to A student and this is one of the hardest and most frustrating classes Ive ever had to taken more importantly is because of it being online. WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND unless you like failing
Likes to hear herself talk.
I'm a consistent Dean's List student with A's and B's... this professor is by far the most difficult teacher I have ever had. It feels like she looks for reasons to deduct points on written work, and she only gives you 30 minutes to take quizzes. Makes you buy additional materials (a camera??) and makes passive-aggressive comments in emails; avoid!
This professor seems to enjoy watching her students struggle. She gives you no time on quizzes, has crazy requests for written work, and expects it to be exactly her way. If you need to take stats while in college and she is the only choice, wait for a different semester to find a different professor.
Horrible professor, horrible class. I am a straight A student and got a C. Devoted 15+ hours a week to this class and have nothing to show for it. Worst class ever. DO NOT TAKE, you will regret it.
I have nothing nice to say. There is no reason to require an external camera with a lockdown browser and then only give 30 minutes to answer ~15 questions. Ran out of time on almost every quiz. Spent hours doing the hawkes modules and watching her videos just to have the quizzes ask questions that weren't covered in the her videos or the modules.
